Really nice teacher, helpful and always available.
He goes through whole chapters in one class, and he says he doesn't expect you to understand it... Attendance is not mandatory though since the class and the work is mostly online. You will need to be in class for tests though so find out when those are. Worth noting, I thought I was gonna fail but I got a C! He is very understanding.
Sometimes he allows students to retake the test , I think that is a good idea because you have a chance to improve your scores.
Mr. Nick is a wise Math teacher, he's formula of teaching is an essential tool for our future students. There are many students that stuggle in acemdics there are auditory, visual , and artist that are challenged. I hope you allow for Mr. Nick to continue to teach Math in his brillent methed,it is the best way and the most fair for all students
I love the opportunity of retaking the tests multiple times. Retaking the tests enabled me to identify the areas that I didnt study carefully and the areas that I needed to spend more time. The tests improved my understanding about the subjects and have built a solid knowledge foundation for my future math classes. Love this class!!
He was extremely helpful when needed and gave students a lot of opportunities to improve their grades.
Trigonometry requires a lot of work itself. It is not easy material, and hard work is a must. Professor was very helpfull, and with clear expectations. Math Lab was used for all the assignments including tests (which can be retaken up to 3 times). The possibility to retake tests is great and very helpfull. Overall, very good class and professor.
I found Prof. S to be very invested in his students success. Prof. S made himself available 4 days a week in the math lab, and offered the opportunity to re-take tests. Rather than making the course easy this prompted students to re-engage with material they found challenging. Going over old material while preparing for the next exam proved tough!
great teacher. allows you to retake an exam as much as you need to.
He is a good teacher he explained well and give you the opportunity to work and retake tests.
does a great job in explaining mathematical problems
good teacher makes sure u understand the work
Taking this class was a refresher for me and I really appreciate Nick for never losing his patience while working with me. I can tell that he's someone I'll look forward to working with while attending this campus
Very caring and understanding. He is willing to work with you. Great professor.
He took the time to inform me what my weak points were and how to improve them overall a well balanced teacher
He took the time to inform me what my weak points were and how to improve them. He will work with you and help you learn from tests
This class was very easy and at your own pace. Myself and a few others did our own thing because it was very easy for us to do the work while others that were not at level of what seemed to be 5th grade math listened because they needed more help. I pretty much finished the class a week early and didn't have to come back after I finished the final.
Tests and homework online which I found to be helpful. Unlimited chances to retake most tests. He wants students to succeed.
He's a cool dude. Not too great when it comes to helping you with the actual material because he has so many chapter summaries that explains it, and lots of calculators that will basically solve the problem for you if done correctly. He lets you take all quizzes and tests as many times as you need to get the best grade. Easy A if you are diligent.
this class will give more chance to improve your grade to max.
Prof. Nick is a great teacher. You can tell he cares about all of his students. He lets you retake the tests as many times as you want, so this is the one class where if you really want to get an A you can and you will come out of the class really understanding the material
He is a great professor, but he doesn't explain very clearly. If you are very attentive and focus in class, his class is an easy A. He offers a lot of help and you are able to retake your tests and final to improve your grade.
A great instructor!
Professor Sha was a great professor. He has a slight accent, but he makes sure you get the material he teaches. If you don't understand it during class he is also available until 5pm in the math lab. He wants you to pass the class, so please try just as hard as he is, if not harder.
REALLY EASY A. YOU CAN RETAKE ANY TEST OR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT. GIVES QUITE A FEW OF HOMEWORK BUT FOR THE MOST PART ITS REALLY EASY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY A BOOK SO YOU END UP SAVING MONEY. HELPS YOU A LOT SO YOU CAN PASS THE CLASS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BASICALLY SHOW UP TO CLASS. NOT MUCH LECTURE DONE IN CLASS, ITS MOSTLY DONE THROUGH PROGRAM.
I was really happy with how he was able to teach us and never made us feel inadequate. " There are no silly questions, so ask question." I also liked the fact that the text book was free, online and saved paper, yet had in class discussions. I see him calmly work with every students and their individual needs wanting them to succeed!
REALLY EASY TO GET A+, IN THIS CLASS, YOU CAN ALSO RETAKE ANY TEST, OVER, AND OVER, TO GET YOU BEST, THERE ARE A LOT OF CHANCES, AND ALSO THIS CLASS WILL BE A KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS.
He is the best teacher
Excellent, straight forward,helpful.
Great teacher! He is very understanding; all you have to do is put in hard work and prove you're putting in the effort, and you will succeed in this class!
Nick is an amazing professor. He's funny and he is lenient. He's very understanding. It's totally up to you if you pass his class or not. He gives you multiple chances to retake Homework assignments and tests. I liked the math games we played, its a different, fun way to learn and a challenge also. Highly recommend Nick, you won't be disappointed.
Professer Nick lets you retake all the tests.
AVAILABLE TO GET EXTRA CREDIT
A real gem; easy to communicate with, very understanding. A lot of work contained in the course but he really wants those who want to learn and succeed to do so.
Very hard class . The homework and tests are very challenging. However if you set a good schedule to get things done and push thru too the end and you'll come out okay.
I think that Professor Nick did a good job in making the class participate and engage throughout our course and provided needed input when any of the students had any problems with our work.
Professor Nick is a very respectful, outgoing , brilliant teacher.
My professor is very good, when I went to Math Lab to asked him questions, he was very patient and gave a a prefect answer, thanks.
Gives extra chances to those who need it and is very helpful when you have questions
I would't have passed if it weren't for Professor Nick 's dedication to my success. If he sees that you are really trying, he will be flexible with you. The online class was tough with lots of hw and bi-weekly chapter tests but his instructional videos are super helpful. Use the lab & communicate with him when you're struggling. He's the best!!
As a full time worker and mother, I'm truly grateful for such a helpful professor who genuinely what's his students to succeed! Def recommend this course
He's a really amazing teacher, I took trig in summer and even though it was 6weeks Prof Nick was able to space it out and go the extra mile for his students
The computer program for math 50 was very useful. I feel I would have received a better grade in the class if I did not take it in summer school, but for me to learn Trigonometry in 6 weeks with a relatively weak algebra background says speaks volumes. My confidence in mathematics is growing and this course is the cause.
Always available for help, clear on instructions and the style of the course was engaging.
Took him this summer & really enjoyed his class! He's a wonderful professor! I would definitely take his class again!
The test is submitted online (in class) but u must show work on paper. If u get an answer correct he will check to make sure u showed your work. If you get an answer wrong it doesn't matter if ur answer is correct on paper, u will get marked wrong. Do all the HW and Reviews and you will succeed. He gives many opportunities to improve your grade.
I took his trig class over the summer. The course was 6 weeks long and I ditched about 4 weeks of class to be with my boyfriend. I did not do any homework and I failed every single test. But since all the class work and tests are online, and he lets us retake anything, anyways I re-did all the tests and homework last minute and got a B in the class
Mr. Nick's class is not be for everybody, but I managed to pass the course by completing all of the assignments and contacting him when I needed help. While he may be strict at times, Mr. Nick has shown that he cares about his students. If you're given the opportunity to retake any of his tests, do so. Also, pay attention when he talks.
If you put in the work, you can definitely learn a lot and get an A in the class. His criteria, grading, and class structure are very clear. He allows retakes on all tests. If you show up and put in the time, there is no reason you can't succeed in his class.
He is good
Awesome teacher. He gives students chance to retake any tests. If you finish all your homework and watch all videos, you will be good to get an A.
Solid Calc professor. This is more of a do it yourself class, however if you don't understand anything, you can always ask and he will show you how. Most things are done online (with an online resource) and there is always tutoring where he stays most of the time. Overall, hes a very respectable and patient teacher who wants you to succeed.
Great professor. If you work hard, you will pass. If you pass, you have learned a lot about calc1.
He is a good professor but you have to work hard if you want a decent grade. This is not the class where you can just learn all the material in lecture. You have to study and do the practice problems
Good professor wants to help students. I feel like he can be a little too harsh on students but he will respect you if you work hard.
A very difficult class with a very helpful professor. He has everything lined out perfectly so you will always be on top of things. He doesn't want to fail you but you need to put some effort into this class to pass. If you're afraid of math he's the teacher to take.
I took his class this summer. Very helpful and is really concerned about solving the student's problems. A wonderful teacher must take his classes I bet you will not regret.
for professor Nick, at the beginning i thought he is a very strict teacher, but in fact, he is very nice for help. As i took the online class, he was always ready to answer the questions on tutoring system. and the test is not too hard if you prepare for it.
In short you get what you put in. The professor is straight forward, no tricks. He gives you his expectations clearly upfront and provides tools to be successful. No expensive textbook which is much appreciate for courses. Work hard and you'll be set
This was not a traditional community college class but if you have already learned your own way of learning course materials at your own pace with some due dates. I am happy that I got to take this summer course with him as this helped me learn the basic statistics and manage my employment and educational obligations. Thank you professor!
The affordability of the OER system cannot be understated. It is a huge relief to not be required to spend several hundred dollars on a textbook, access code, etc. I felt that the myopenmath platform was actually very easy to use. Thanks for the great course!
I think Nick is a great professor and the use of forum to both learn the materials and help other students out is great.
One aspect of OER I appreciated was it helped me stay accountable with studying. I was able to learn from different teaching styles with multiple students contributing. Overall I would use this method again.
He started off being a good teacher, but once one or two people complained of some issues, he started changing everything up and wouldn't follow through on his promises of how he was going to grade assignments. He acts condescending when answering questions and tends to not specify what he's teaching you, so you have to look things up online.
When you first start the class, he would be very nice to you and would help you with things you have problems with. However, he would change all his teaching style and grading style as the semester gets closer to the end. If you want to fail then take this class.
My professor was really helpful, at the beginning of the semester I thought I would never pass the class because it looked so difficult and as I'm not good in math I was so close to drop the class but I was lucky because our professor made it so easy to understand and succeed. I hope I will get another chance to take another math class with him.
The use of the online homework system is really helpful.
I really enjoyed this math class. I became a stronger math student by solving the creative problems. I like that you spent a minimum of 2 class periods on exam prep before each exam. I also appreciate your grading style and allowed cheat sheets on exams. At first, I disliked the quick checks but then I started pre-studying so I started to do better
I think you grade the midterms and finals very fairly. However, when it comes to shortcutmath, it makes me really miss the myopenmath system. Another thing, maybe make your lectures more thorough? I like how you explained it in Calculus 1, but maybe that was because Calculus 1 was easier...
Mr. Nick is a brilliant mathematician. I think he just has to work on his lecturing. The practice problems and HW were far too easy at times. And when they were confusing, the text or videos werent any helpful.
The class is difficult for me, but my professor and tutor are so helpful.
I learned a lot from this class. The website for the class wasnt easy to use.
Mr. Nick is a great professor! Hopefully the system will fix the bugs and provide more resources to help student success in this course!
He is quite challenging but will help you however he can. I did not like the platform he used but he is a fantastic teacher.
Besides the lecture, the online learning was a very useful tool in order to succeed in the course. I didn't need any other resources because Shortcut Math had everything for me to solve the problems. Unfortunately, the professor won't be teaching Linear Algebra this Fall because I would've signed up for his class in a heart beat.
The class was great! The how to solve it sections were essential to helping me understand how to solve some of the problems. The class had many important tools that help you understand how to solve problems and the community forums helped a great deal if you get stuck.
Too much stuff Online stuff I want the old fashion way pen and paper
He recognizes hard-work and gives his students enough time to do extra-credit in order for students to get their desired grades.
Great prof Shaposhnikov does a good job teaching in class and is very understanding
Nick has a detailed schedule and goes by that. He is a fair grader with marginally high partial credit compared to other prof. Might take a while to get his teaching style but after a while come exam time you would be on top of the world. Makes a hard content easy. Very highly recommend.
The homework assignment and test prep was really helpful. The professor gave students a lot of opportunity to ask questions about any math problems. Even though it was a summer course, we covered the material well.
Very supportive teacher. Puts an effort to help the students in the best way possible.
You are a fantastic teacher.
This course was great and the professor was funny and genuinely cared about the success of his students. The videos were a great addition to the course.
Love the online course portion. I really like his lectures. They're steady and in simple words. They're not a repeat of the textbook. Most other instructors would just repeat the textbook, albeit in more confusing ways. I really like how relax he is too, which makes it so much easier to talk to him and ask questions on the board.
Teaching style is definitely not for everyone, but at least is willing to help students. Considerably decent, but not the best for everyone.
If you have any questions from homework or test, do not hesitate to ask him. He would spend as many times as he can to answer all of your questions.
This teacher is a total joke. He is there to get a check. He don't teach anything in class. You ask a question and he basically tell you to figure it out on your own or with your classmates. Starting the 1st day of class he told us to read online text do the practice quiz homework and get a tutor and guess guess guess until you get the right answer
I would never recommend this prof to anyone. He introduces proofs during his 2.5 hour lecture & he may solve one of the more simpler problems halfway. You will have to teach yourself through the online content. Class is useless but mandatory. Multiple graded assmnts weekly & he leaves class for portions of it. if you have questions, office hours???
Hard Course. Amazing professor.
He is good teacher but sometimes explains in the introduction too much time it's better doing some examples instead of wasting time in introduction..
The professor is very patient and clear in his instructions. I like the "system" of home works, practices, group projects, and tests.
First, I must say, as a person Mr. Shaposhnikov is fantastic. When you need help he will assist, but at times when it comes to teaching the problem, it can be confusing. It was frustrating needing to seek extra assist when it should be explained well the first time.
He is funny. However, as a student, I realized at many moments me and other students were confused. The confusion were clarified most of the time.
Keep up with the work online, watch the videos, and learn everything from prep material--even the proofs. Follow the above, and you will be fine.
I feel that he needs to work more on giving examples not just theories. ALL IN ALL THOUGH, he is a very good teacher and good person too.
Great pressure, above and beyond. He does his best too expiration in details. Great help for student
Amazing lectures
Dont really like group assignments but otherwise everything worked fine for me.
I think the class was very well structured and efficient. Professor Nick is very patient and explains things well. The subject matter itself tends to get complicated but with constant practice it becomes second nature.
easy class, good prof
Great class and pace of presenting the materials throughout the course. I liked that we had the chance to practice a lot of problem sets prior to the exams.
keep your hardworking in and out of the class
The instructor is knowledge in the math very well
He has the best ways to look at a formula I have ever took in a math class. Makes it way better to understand the problem.
Very supportive with such a tough subject. Always allowing us to ask any questions we have. Great professor
Nick is a hard teacher, but fair. If you put in the work you can get the grade you want. Nick uses an online program as a substitution for a book, it took some time to get used to but appreciated after some time. You have access to lots of problems that you can practice over and over throughout the class.
a lot of short quizzes but 3 attempts to get the highest score, weekly homework works the same as well. He drops a total of 3 low scoring quiz and homework scores. He is available through offices hours.
an unexpected mix of passion for the complicated subject and humor, I enjoyed it.
The professor was very attentive to the class and willing to help anyone that needed help in understanding the course work.
The material required a lot of practice, but I appreciated that Prof. Nick focused on making sure we understood the fundamentals, as well as exposing us to more difficult problems, and showing us the real-world applications to what we were learning. I thought shortcutmath was a convenient tool for completing homework and class quizzes.
The whole class and the concept of the usage of the website is very good, we do not have to buy textbooks and can always find resources on the website so even if you miss out something in class, you can still catch up by looking up the resources. And as there are so much group projects, you can get a lot of friends from the class too.
A lot of people have given good reviews for Professor Nick for teaching Calculus, but when I took him for linear algebra, his reviews did not meet his standards. I took this Nick base on his good reviews but he didn't deliver. Lecture was unorganized/hard to understand and WORST of all was the course grading criteria was not followed.
This class works for me well thanks to the devotion of my prof. He has clear and nice math step instructions to follow. This prof is so amazing that he has both strictness and humor to all students when learning math without much pressure.
This classes worked for me perfectly because I attended most of the classes(Didn't attend the first week cause I was on vacation) and did most of the homework problem and assessment and quick tests and most of the midterm, final came from those exercises and also the classes was in the afternoon and I was available so it was a win for me
It worked well for me. Good pace throughout. I would have preferred to pay more attention to proofs than going over practice problems but overall a great class.
This class worked so well because of the website. It is very convenient just to SEE what needs to be done. Also, the fact that its MULTIPLE CHOICE is a very nice way to check whether I have the right answer WITHOUT revealing the answer to me. If I DO NOT see my answer I can try another honest attempt I learned so fast with this method.
I like the instructor. The materials he gave me are really helpful, which allow me to learn without him. It's perfect.
Understandable Examples. I prefer if zoom was never used again. Google Meetings is probably way more trustable and safe. As well, Most students will already have a google account.
I took calc 3 with professor Shaposhnikov and chose to take Diff Eq with him. He makes his expectations and grading very clear, which I appreciate a lot. This semester was challenging because of covid. But I was really impressed with how he adapted, particularly how he devised the final exam, since it had to be done online.
The covid lockdowns forced the class to switch to online learning but the professor made this diffficult material understandable. Take good notes, keep track of examples.
The teacher really take its time to make everything very simple to understand. I learned a lot of shortcuts methods to solve complex differential equations. I really enjoyed this class. I took this class in a period of a global pandemic, so I couldn't expect more.
The basic concepts are straight forward, but I wish the professor could go deeper.
Professor Nick is very responsive and helpful. I took his Calculus 3 and decided to take his differential equations. Great experience
I thought that the instruction and resources were very good, which helped me to study and prepare for exams.
This was a great course. Online transition was done really well. Admirable
This class was very adaptable to my busy schedule. Normally I would have to skim through the book to understand what exactly I had to do for homework but the website and the professor provided the much needed practice and review I needed for the coming weeks quick check or assignment.
this course helped me a lot to understand basic concept of linear algebra and differential equation but youll need extra self-studying to get deeper concepts. I think it would be much better to make this course little harder.
At the beginning it was hard, but as I got used to the change in the mode of instruction, it actually ended up working with my other class schedules. In projects, other members didnt really help except for a few, it usually ended up with me helping the project leaders with the problem/task given to the group.
Professor nick absolutely amazing ,I wish I knew him before , wouldve taken all my math classes with him
Professor is straight to the point. A couple problems are solved together and then students are expected to attempt some problems on their own in order to be able to identify what they understand and what they dont understand.
It was difficult transitioning from a face-to-face class to an online one. I think the professor did a great job with helping students with this transition as he was also getting used to it.
I think the professor did a really great job transferring the class over to an online system. The group sessions were really beneficial in learning the information and the Planet X final was really fun and such a creative way to think about the math.
I found the online platform really useful. I could practice problems until I mastered them.
Online hw and resources made it very accessible at all times. Professor always tried to make sure we understood the problems and concepts, or gave us the resources to learn them on our own time. I am a person that almost never understands the concept when its first presented, so i appreciate how the prof does not randomly call on students to answer
I had an enrolling problem with the school - partially my fault - and they wanted to kick me out for class because of that. Professor Shaposhnikov was on my side all the way, and thanks to him I could finish the class and received an A. He's a great instructor and encourages us, students, a lot. Thank you Prof.!
Overall great professor, one of the most kindest professors I've ever had that actually cared about his students passing the course instead of setting them up to failure like many other mathematic professors.
Planet Z did seem a bit confusing for me at first but in honesty I just had to solve the problem at a slower pace instead of rushing. Redoing simple algebra before submitting the answer was also very key when working with Planet Z. I can say it's a very creative way to prevent students from cheating and having to actually know how to do the steps.
I didnt think "Planet Z" experience was very helpful since the problems were solved using different derivative equations. It was a creative way to practice and think about problems differently, but I do think it wouldve been better to limit the number of planet Z problems.
This class was very good as there was plenty of practice from the lectures. Throughout the course there were study guides for the exams and final. The Z-Planet was exciting as it changed up the formulas of the problems. Most Z-Planet problems were covered in class.
I really enjoyed this class. The structure was organized and easy to follow. There was plenty of help from the professor and from other sources that were provided. I learned a lot and I am glad I took this class!
I liked "Z Planet" problems a lot. It was somewhat frustrating when there was a rule on the test that I hadnt practiced with, but overall it was a very cool way to help us understand the material. Very good class, I enjoyed it a lot and would take again!
There were a few topics that were gone over really fast, even for a Summer class. Or going over the questions of easier topics in detail and flying through others. Once you get use to a regular schedule of working, I ended up having more success compared to in class learning. Having access to rewatch lecture videos helps a lot.
Sometimes I would be frustrated with Z-Planet questions and felt panicked during exams but in practice I think it helps to force you to understand the equation more and with application use. I definitely feel more comfortable with manipulating formulas and what each variable stands for now.
Z Planet was a creative way to weed out the cheaters and reward the hardworking students with integrity, which I really appreciated but it was very stressful during the test when it was a twisted rule I had never seen before, so I had no idea if I was doing it correctly. Itd be better to use the same twisted rule on the test as in practice.
This class worked for me because it was asynchronous and because you can tell the professor really cared about his students. I usually dislike math in general, but this class was enjoyable because I felt like I had access to do well in the class!
Overall, this class was phenomenal! I applaud our instructor for being both knowledgeable and approachable. Despite the accelerated pace I really enjoyed this experience. I learned a lot and I feel very confident in continuing my trajectory in math.
It was everything I expected it to be and more. After taking this course, I feel better prepared for my future goals.
I loved this class and the online learning program for homework, practice problems, and tests. Clear and succinct lectures were great to reinforce the content that we were learning at the time-he knew how to keep us engaged on Zoom. Test problems were very similar to practice problems. Canvas was used for additional outside help. I love math again.
Don't : -ask questions about math, he answers in a way that makes you feel stupid. -ask questions about grading, online course navigation, or software issues. -email him. If you have to communicate with him, do it in office hours. Do: -attend office hours for attendance -learn how to teach yourself with books, youtube, and other resources.
I enjoyed this class! Lots of extra credit opportunities and opportunities to better your grades on earlier tests. I would not take this course if you cant teach yourself a few concepts. Even though I learned a lot with his material, there were definitely a few concepts I had to look up on YouTube. Overall, I recommend this class!!
Overall the class was fun and easy to follow and understand, but since it was an online class, there were some technical issues that made it a bit challenging. I like that the meetings were not mandatory
While I did not take advantage of it, I am pleased that the professor was adequately available for any questions that we may have throughout the course. In addition, his practice tests were an excellent tool to prep us for every test. By taking advantage of them, I felt more than confident going into the tests.
I really enjoyed this class my only criticism I have is in regard to the proctoring software Honorlock.
I liked that it had all the lectures on YouTube.
I like that the professor gave us the chance to increase our grades. I think this class is perfect. I really enjoy this class in the fall semester. If I have a chance to take Math in this professor, I would take it.
I loved that this class was super accommodating and gives lots of extra credit. Spreads homework and tests out very nicely, lots of announcements and heads up. Easily accessible outside of the class and answers emails very quickly. Gives great advice on how to improve your grade! Enjoyed how it was asynchronous so you must be independent.
Online learning for a math course is difficult for me in general. Its more difficult to ask for help... The professor was timely in his responses to canvas messages. His lectures werent as clear to me, but after some help I would understand the material. I wish to have our exams be open book. Overall, I had a productive experience in my class.
i like the pace of this class. almost every one or two weeks one homework and every month one test. in every test practices, the professor posts the video for us. it is very sweet.
I liked the flexibility, the course material, and the workload
Very detail instructions provided. Like the humor of the instructor. Have many opportunities to improve grades
I liked how there were example videos for every question.
Although Calculus I is a hard class the professor prepared us well for the exams. He also gives opportunities for extra credit, as long as we students are willing to do the work. He makes calculus easier than it appears to be.
I really liked the videos posted along with most of the questions, really helped with understanding the topics & how to solve questions
I loved all the opportunities for extra credit and the class discussion to have classmates help you out
it was very flexible and student-based. The infinite practice homework and exams were super helpful because they were almost the same as the real ones. The videos were all very clear and concise. Very thankful that one bad grade was dropped.
I like the way to setup the homework, example videos included in each question, quite useful for us to understand how the solution works. Professor response to our email quickly. One thing that I don't really like is just the Honorlock, feels complicated about it, but I understand the way professor do this. That's all.
Best professor I had he really worked with my schedule even when I was deployed cause Im in the military thank you sir!
I like the point that homeworks are opened in advance. I was able to get ready for the assignments earlier and perfect
good... really
I loved this class the professor was super helpful and the course was very easy to get help with because he provided examples and videos for each problems and the test was similar to the homework so it made studying easy.
Took online during COVID-19 season, most of the grading was heavy on midterms and the final, so they were okay as long as you studied and understood what you were doing. Professor Shaposhnikov also goes back and adjusts midterm grades by double-checking your work. He answers emails quickly. There is also a decent amount of homework.
Great class. Self paced. Calc 2 is hard, so not the professors fault. E.C., test is what is expected.
Professor Shaposhnikov was (and is) one of the best professors that I've ever met. He is incredibly supportive and cares for each of his students. All of the tests were very accessible and very similar to the study guides and test prep material! If you're willing to work hard, an A is completely achievable. I recommend anyone to take this class!
He's a very good professor! If you really put effort into this math class, you can get an A+ in any math lecture taught by Professor Nick. Repeat hard and practice hard then, you get A+
professor Nick Shaposhnikov is very helpful and he responds all the messages quickly. The lecture video and practice homeworks which is provided helps to solve each problems. If you practice more and pay attention to the video lectures you can easily get an A grade.
This was an online Algebra class that was an asynchronous class. While most of the items are learned on your own, the professor created an environment that promoted team support and would quickly answer/guide if their were no responses. He has clear standards and easily reachable. Great attitude, caring and quite fair.
He is outstanding! Calculus 2 was not easy for me. But his class was interesting, his encouragement and good feedback manner make students inspirational and active. I got Cal 1 and 2, he has good teaching and communication skills.
Amazing professor. I took him for linear algebra and really enjoyed his teaching style. The material requires that you study, but it's not overwhelmingly challenging to the point where it's discouraging. Professor Shaposhnikov really cares about his students' success, and it shows. You will not regret taking this class.
Professor Shaposhnikov's Calculus II class (MATH3B) was a very rewarding and educational experience. The professor put many efforts into encouraging good study habits and preparing his students for tests. If you do all of the homework and test preparations that he provides, you will certainly do well in the class. I highly recommend this professor.
It's really all about the tests in this class, but they aren't too difficult because the questions can be found on the practice tests which you can repeat over and over again.
I like that this professor was assertive and consistent with helping people in the class. Although the forums were a place where students mainly talked, our professor always answered anyones question in a timely manner. The class is structured in a great way to comprehend the material with interesting Z-Planet problems.
Professor Shaposhnikov made this class extremely easy to get through despite the shortened semester schedule. I also really liked how he is a fast responder, so he quickly helps you with any questions.
He was good, but not great. The "Participate" part is difficult, especially for people who are not good at words and shy. I'm not going to take Mr. SHAPOSHNIKOV's class again because I did all I can do and just get an A- in Cal1, my GPA will definitely be affected. I wish I could have gotten more "extra credit" at that time.
One feedback I would give is to have shorter videos that discuss the conceptual side of Calculus. Itll help students better instead of following a video on how to solve a problem. Other than that, I appreciate you, the professor, and the time you took to set up this course for us. Thank you :)
the only thing I don't like it very much is the Participation is 20% of our grade. I like the way how Participation form let students helps each other, but it just makes me feel, I do the form for credit not I really want to ask a question or answer a question. because we need to earn 10 points a week. otherwise, this course is very great!
Professor Nick Shaposhnikov is very concerned and responsible about his students. When I was behind schedule, he took the initiative to send a private message to me, asked me about the situation and offered me help.
PROFESSOR NICK IS THE BEST. HE WAS ASKING IF I WAS OKAY BECAUSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO COMPLETE ONE OF THE TASK. HE IS VERY CARING TOWARDS HIS STUDENTS AND IS VERY APPROACHABLE. DEFINITELY WOULD BE LOOKING FORWARD TO HIS LECTURE ON CALCULUS 2.
Professor Shaposhnikov is one of the best teachers I've had the pleasure to encounter. He genuinely cares about his students and makes sure they succeed both in the course and in life. He is very flexible and responds quickly to questions and concerns. His attitude towards learning and encouragement to work hard and smart is truly inspiring.
I took this class because of all the "great" reviews that I saw about him, and I was so disappointed to experience the complete opposite. He's not clean on his own syllabus and expects us to do the work without providing us with the promised lectures. Please do not take him for 3A, especially not online when his class is this disorganized.
I took the summer class and it was challenging. Making an online group chat where you help each other out is going to be extremely useful. Calc 1 isn't a difficult subject but it will be if you're going to cover it in 6 weeks... Prof is great, his tests are EXACTLY like the practice tests. If you study those very well, you'll be fine.
I will take this professor again.
Prof. Shaposhnikov taught an amazing Calc. 2 course. He clearly thought out the assignments and tests extremely well. Each module built off of the knowledge gained in the previous one. There were a ton of "Got it!" moments where it felt like everything came together. He is incredibly knowledgable, and I'm very thankful to have taken this class!
Prof. Shaposhnikov is an above & beyond professor! He's one of the most caring, approachable & compassionate professors I've met. I was struggling in the class and he really made an effort to support and encourage me, I don't think I would have gotten the grade I did without his help. I really like his teaching style too it's fun like magic of calc
Prof. Shaposhnikov is an above & beyond professor! He's one of the most caring, approachable & compassionate professors I've met. I was struggling in the class and he really made an effort to support and encourage me, I don't think I would have gotten the grade I did without his help. I really like his teaching style too it's fun and easy to grasp!
Participation in discussion forums is graded which is incredibly annoying and a big factor to consider when choosing him. Other than that, he is super caring - checks up on students, allows for extra credit. It was a great privilege to learn with him for Calc 1 and 2 (anticipated 3). I wish he taught all my math classes.
I'm a person who has been terrified of taking calculus for so long, but I'm so glad I took this class! The professor has put together a curriculum that makes learning so much easier. You have to do the work, but test are open note so you can refer back to your homework if you get stuck. The professor really cares about his students and it shows!
This class is different from what we usually use for other classes, to complete it smoothly read the instructions clearly, attend the class orientation, participate in class forums, do weekly assignments and the practice sets ahead of time to unlock your real tests. Professor Nick is amazing and he believes in all of his students.
The class itself is perfect and pretty challenging, but it could still reach to the astronomical perfection. For class materials, I wish that the instructor could add optional in-depth explanation or interesting application about them (like the Tomahawk or the Planet-Z transforming). It would extremely catch some of the Math-loving students' mind!
Professor Shaposhnikov is someone who actually cares about his students. He reaches out and wants to instill good learning habits that you can use inside and outside of the classroom. I was never really good at math until I took his class.
Overall the class was pretty good. The professor is well informed in the topics and will answer all your questions. The tests are very similar to the practice tests so if you study, its an easy A. But be ready to "participate" in an online forum very frequently.
I pretty like assignments and practices this class provides. Of course, videos and suggestion from professor almost are prefect. Form in this class also help me a lot and interesting. EC is great. Just one thing I don't like that is grading on Form. It takes 15% of total grade, it seems a challenge for me.
Professor Shaposhnikov is the absolute best, he is understanding and genuinely cares about the success of his students. The class becomes easier to navigate as you try all the portals and what they are used for, concerns regarding navigation of the course should be immediately communicated with the Professor.
For the love of god, if you dont want to do participation during the weeks - do not take this class. Not worth it. Other than that, I loved having him as a teacher. Even though the class was asynchronous, he was involved and it was a great privilege to learn through his guidance.
I LIKE HOW.... He made helping other students mandatory through the discussions. Tests only had about 10 questions. I was able to complete the modules in 1-3 days.
Thank you for an amazing semester professor, It was a great one. You have made online math reasonable, interesting, and enjoyable even through the hard parts. See you next semester!
The professor always does his absolute best to make sure the students are on track and have the help they need. He is very accessible and responds to messages very quickly. He truly wants all his students to succeed.
The hardest thing about this course is that it is 100% online. Participation plays a big role for grading. Sometime it's really hard to keep up with the forum participation. Things get confusing in the beginning of the course but its manageable. The exams and final are fair and the unlimited access/tries on the exams preps are very helpful.
Professor Shaposhnikov is an amazing professor. His course design for asynchronous classes should be modeled for every asynchronous course offered in Peralta District. Ive taken two of his asynchronous courses and both were well thought-out, perfectly organized, informative, clearly explained, and inspiring.
I love your teaching and also I got impressive about participation we are living in Covid-19 but you made me up in the group work. That was really I like it.
Do Like: Professor's attitude and correspondence, online homework, online test prep, instant feedback, late passes. DON'T LIKE: forums can be a little too open ended, ambiguous.
I also experienced completely opposite. The professor uses a complicated external platform(not free), which was not trackable on CANVAS. Participation played an important role but the rubric was confusing. Although students got 100/100 on HW and Tests, they might have a low score just because did not post "creative" discussions. Disappointing.
Not a huge fan of his attitude. Makes it hard to earn full points for the discussions without being specific on how to get full points. Wish I was careful on checking the reviews since they most likely arent real. Too many reviews on the same exact day/semester that are positive which is suspicious compared to other professors not receiving many.
Discussions were very complicated with no clear rubric on how to complete them. Requires a whole journey just to receive help from him. I thought the whole point of being a teacher was to help your students understand the course not teach the course to their fellow classmates. Maybe take a hard look before picking a class.
Don't take this class. Grades forum posts way too harshly. Don't know what happened between last semester and this semester but do not listen to past reviews. You will regret taking this class.
He's a caring teacher and wants his students to do good. It's calc 3B so it's hard no doubt about that. He makes it easier on his students but you also have to do the work.
I liked that the class was completely on my schedule, the homework and tests were straight forward, and there were no surprises on exams. I did not really like the forum but reading the professors justification for it I am okay with it.
I loved everything about this class, the discussions, the assignments, and the exams lol. The instructor was caring, understanding, and inspirational. I've never had a teacher with these qualities before, so it was very refreshing. To be honest, I would have to say that this has to be my favorite math class among other math classes that I've taken.
$60 website. Easy weekly discussion forums, test every 3 modules (3 total tests + final), and you have to use a proctor during these tests. Homework is easy to understand since there are videos provided to help you out with it. Curving on tests. You can use notes on tests. But sometimes I felt like I wasnt learning bc notes were allowed on tests
Participation takes up 15% of the grade in this class through online forums but it is easily doable each week. Exams are 50% of grade: 3 midterms and 1 final but the lowest grade of midterm gets dropped. There's also a retake for the final and all exams are open notes but proctored. Exams are like the homework so no surprises at all. Chill class.
I've taken 3 async courses with Prof. Shaposhnikov (Calc 1-3) and loved them all. The requirements for hw and tests are clear and make passing this class totally doable. Participation is a tad vague as to how to earn points for it, but not that bad. I totally recommend taking this if you want a fun, flexible, and interesting calc course!
Professor Shaposhnikov is one of the best math teachers I ever had. The grading criteria for homework and tests are clear. Participation isn't weighted heavily and it is possible to gain "extra credit" when you participate in the forums. Making participation matter can boost your grade and your classmates'. I highly recommend taking his class.
If you take this class prepare to be graded HARSHLY on how much you can write per week. In a math class he makes forums an extremely heavy part of the grading system. It's not some easy forum as well, if you don't write a minimum of 300 plus words you won't get credit. One week you'll get points, and do it again later on and no points. He is bad
I took Calc1 and Calc2 with Professor Shaposhnikov, and I got A+ on both the classes. The professor is super nice and helpful. He is also very flexible as he provides you a whole week to complete assignments, participate and even take the exams. There are plenty of resources provided by the professor that will help you succeed.
He is a very nice and funny guy. More importantly, he is very helpful if you need any help in class. Taking his class, we don't need to deal with anxiety or stress for our grade if we follow his class instruction, for example, doing more practice exams and getting good scores.
I took Math 3C with Professor Nick, His course has clear grading criteria. As long as you carefully read his requirements and complete your homework, you can easily learn and get high scores.
Definitely take this professor if you can. He is very understanding and caring!
Forum participation matters A LOT, so make sure you post enough to rack up 10 points if you want an A in participation each week. The prof has a unique writing style, similar to using "flowery language", so it's important to read everything multiple times, CAREFULLY. The professor is open to feedback, so I highly recommend students talking to him
This was the first course that I have taken by Professor Shaposhnikov, and I was a big fan of how this class was structured. There is complete transparency and no surprises when it comes to exams. If you like online classes, I entirely recommend his classes.
pretty tough professor and expects a lot from students. You have to take 3 practice tests before the actual exam (3 exams, 1 final) so technically you have to take 16 exams. Ended with a high grade but only because I worked harder then I should have. Lots of homework. Long days doing practice exams. Pick another professor if you can
Professor Shaposhnikov is a very tough grader. He would often take off many points for participation assignments, like replying on a form, etc. The material was also very tough, and I don't think he had any lecture videos to use. However, his coursework was very specific and clear.
If you need help including your life issues, he'll try whatever he can give you what you need. If you take his class with a positive attitude of learning, one thing you don't worry about is the grade.
I liked the class overall, I think the amount of work assigned was very well balanced. I test where very good since it was very easy to study and the topic in the test where made very clear. the professor was very responsive and easy to communicate with.
The professor was very responsive every time I had a question he would respond very quickly. I did not find any dislikes In the class and overall I think that the class was very responsive and easy to understand and there was alot of communication between peers even though It was all online.
the course is great and the Professor is even better!
The only thing I didn't enjoy much was the required participation, but everything else felt perfect.
I enjoyed the homework and test format. I didn't really like the participation though. It seemed really inconsistent. Some weeks, I'd get 5 points for a post and then the next week, with the same amount of effort and same type of post, I would .5 or 0 points. That made it hard to do well in participation.
He is attentive, understanding and provides many resources to learn the course material.
I really like the "no surprise testing design" in our class. It just means if you work hard and will(should) get an A.
This professor was very clear about grading criteria and was very reasonable with respects to the course. There were 3 test and 1 final, all of which were curved. Both homework and participation mattered. There is also ample opportunity for extra credit.
85% of your grade is Tests + Final. 15% is HW. Really great professor, he's fair and supportive. Just do your HW and test prep and you'll be fine! Participation and EC puts you in his good graces so if you're not good at math then do the EC and participate a lot. He's likely to help you get a good grade in the end. You're allowed to retake one exam
I found this class extremely easy to navigate and keep up to date with. Clear deadlines are posted on every assignment. The workload for each week was not difficult at all.
I really loved how real Professor Shaposhnikov felt, even in an online asynchronous course. From the very first day of the course, when Prof. added a "Minions" gif to his welcome message, I knew that he was more personable and down-to-earth than my other professors in the past. Since then, I have prospered in the course.
I like the test preps because it really prepared me for what I should expect on the tests.
I like his self-directed learning mode, the progress is determined by oneself, this is a very good way
The pacing of the class allowed for me to do all of the modules ahead of time. This helped tremendously in decreasing my workload and was integral to performing well in my other classes. The relaxed (but structured) nature of the class offered stability and predictability, I couldn't have asked for a better structure of an already difficult course.
I really enjoyed my courses with Professor Shaposhnikov! The course structure is crystal clear with no surprises. You know exactly what you need to put in and exactly what you are getting out of the course. Beyond the course structure, the interesting extra-terrestrial problems really help to strengthen core knowledge. I have really learned a lot.
This math class is structured in a way that makes sense. There are a plethora of different learning resources, examples, and problems that students can reference to get the most out of their learning experience. I am able to freely make mistakes without having to worry about my grade. Tremendously helpful as I learn the best by fixing mistakes.
I think the students are given the full capacity to do well in the class. Fair chance! Fair chance = hard work.
Professor Shaposhnikov is definitely the most humorous professor I have ever met. Just about everything in this class is tailored in such a way that it is about perfect for learning online. All that's needed is the actual time and effort for a pretty tough and interesting class, and you should be good to go.
I absolutely loved this class, and loved Professor Shaposhnikov even more. I know some students may have had complaints about the Practice Exam requirement , and I'll admit, at times I was frustrated by it. However, in the end, it made the course set-up in a way where we could not have possibly performed badly on the actual exams.
If you want a math class he is the one to go for by closing your eyes. You will not fail if you follow his guidelines.
Ngl I was a bit scared at first since the syllabus was so detailed. Calculus can be a content-heavy class, but the class structure helped make it organized. The platform and resources made learning very doable. Prof Nick is accessible outside of class and can be humorous. Tests are curved, final isn't. 1 test retake. Work hard and you'll be fine!
The class was a sync so anyone can log in at any time to participate in class forums. The grading is clear and you can always keep track of it.Honestly, this class helped me understand math really well. He doesnt teach the course but provides links to useful youtube tutorials that walk you through answering the questions.
I wouldn't have considered math to be my strongest subject or my favorite subject before taking his calculus class, but I've become so much more interested in math--and in my opinion--much better at it as well. I liked the special "Planet X-Y-Z" problems which twisted the rules of math. They expanded my critical thinking skills.
I think this class was an interesting and exciting challenge; A challenge that I hope to continue in the future. I think prospective students should totally try it out! Professor Shaposhnikov is always helpful and understanding, and bonus, he has a great sense of humor :)
I love the "no-surprise" testing model, and I don't think many other professors have that approach but it was a big time investment, that we must take the three practice tests before every exam, yes, after that I felt prepared and confident when I take the real thing but again it was hard and time consuming.
I like the "self-paced" aspect of this class. This class is a "what you see is what you get" type of class; everything is explained and there are no changes.
One of the best professors in Math. He is using the ShortCutMath platform, which costs an extra $60, but trust me, it's worth every cent. I was confused at the beginning because many problems are open source, e.g. YouTube videos from Mathispower4u, but he spent a considerable amount of time organizing the topics, and he has extra credit assignments
This professor was a pain in itself, do not believe the reviews he got on here, they are all fake and are done by the class survey. his online school system which is ShortCutMath is a waste of money since MyOpenMath is free and does literally the same thing as what ShortCutMath does. You have to pay for the software.
Overall I really enjoyed this class and the way that Prof Shaposhnikov taught it.
I like the straightforward approach of the exams. Nothing was unexpected. I also appreciate the "Y Planet" questions as it really made me critically think about how to solve them. I wish there was more instruction from the instructor.
The professor always does his absolute best to make sure the students are on track and have the help they need. Prof. Shaposhnikov is very accessible and responds to messages very quickly.
I think that the class instructor truly cares about the success of students. He will always check up on you if you delayed any work and will push you to make sure that you complete the assignments.
I really appreciate the professor for his sincere care for his students to succeed with his numerous messages that always came with his encouragement. One of the things I like the best was his practice tests and homework, both allowed to repeat the problems with similar, not exact contents. That really gave me a chance to improve my weakness.
Good introduction to math concepts needed in the field of AI. Could use more instruction and discussion on labs.
I have a great appreciation towards Professor Shaposhnikov's creativity in making the coursework a bit more challenging. One of my favorite components of this class have been the z-planet problems and how it offers a space to manipulate math in an unexpected way.
Very thorough, and as of the time of taking it was online/asynchronous set up in such a way to be a very effective way to learn the material if you don't require lectures to learn. I'm lead to believe this will change in coming semesters, but I doubt the quality of learning will change, nor will the professor's lovely sense of humor.
I really enjoyed the way that this professor helped ensure that a proper classroom community was being built, through the message board system.
They were very nice and caring with their feedback to students, but I feel a bit intimidated
His online asynchronous classes are very straightforward. The tests make up almost all of your grade, but test questions are very similar / identical to the homework. He provides a very clear path towards an A or B grade -- what you get is pretty much entirely in your hands.
When I reached out for help because I am not familiar with online classes, the professor responded at 2AM with rude comments, asking if I was trying to start a fight and telling me to fix my attitude before asking questions.Instead of offering any assistance,he only suggested drop the class and showed no effort to understand the student's situation.
Prof. Shaposhnikov's class has an engaging online setup, with creative assignments like the z-planet problems. While challenging, the material is well-explained, and the professor is accessible. Unstuckstudy AI proved a helpful study tool alongside the course resources.
This class is asynchronous, but requires weekly effort. Most of the homework exercises have video tutorials. Questions have mutiple trials. Coupled with the fact that there are weekly discussions, active participation makes it quicker to understand the material .
Most insightful professor I've ever had. Content is difficult but will get easier the more you study. Really wish I took this class in person with the same professor, he was great.
As good as an asynchronous class could be. Obviously with asynch everything is harder, but the class is organized as best as it can be considering that it is asych.
I like this classroom and the teacher very much. Our virtual classroom helps me a lot. I can ask other students questions that I don't understand and confused about this class, as well as to help students. I like the instructor very much because he always encourages me and praise me when I am depressed. I am really grateful.
This class was exceptionally well paced. The professor gets around the unique challenges posed by an online classroom by requiring students to be active participants in the classroom discussions. There was no point during this class that I felt overwhelmed or lacking information. Expectations are clear and all types of resources are available.
There weren't any mandatory zoom meetings which was nice. Participation was mandatory, but it honestly helped me A LOT, since it was basically a space where everyone could help one another. Also, there was nothing unexpected on the exams if you study and do all the homework. Plus, Professor Shaposhnikov was very approachable and responsive.
I liked how all the tools needed to be successful for the class were neatly packaged. All in all, it was a well-designed course. As someone who wasn't confident in their math abilities, I left the course feeling like I could continue taking more difficult math courses if I used the same discipline that I picked up from this course.
I enjoyed the flexibility and the clear outline. An old professor that I had an online class with did "labs" which were a set of problems that had no set of video or assistance. It helped push me to think future to understand the mechanics of the problems.
I like that the Professor deeply cares about students excelling in the class. He provides students with extra credit opportunities and well organized curriculum. I appreciate the videos that were added for the lessons. I'm a visual learner especially in math and it helped me a lot to have the videos to go back to.
I like how this class was all laid out nicely which made the process easy to navigate. I appreciate the videos since they helped me the most. Everything is also explained well from the beginning so I wasn't confused about much. Even online, I was still able to communicate with my classmates through discussions which were helpful.
what I liked the most was how the exams were structured. There were three preps that you had to accomplish before taking the real exam. This helps you to get a real sense of what the exam would be like. I appreciated that the professor would reach out to me from time to time to encourage me to develop my skills beyond the class.
You can always talk to the professor if you have any questions or concerns. I like how he has an online classroom (discussion posts) for students to talk and give advice to each other. My only challenge in this class was the Z-planet question, I understand why the teacher gives it to us but it confuses me sometimes.
I really like the test setup. The three practice tests really prepare you for the real test and the tests were graded on a curve.
The professor was very understanding and happy to assist in times where real life issues or a silly mistake interfered with the ability to finish an exam. Even with a pentalty to the grade, the empathy that was shown was so refreshing and gave a bit of hope where some professors (understandably) as tough luck.
The class was pretty easy in my opinion, I liked the multiple attempts and the test preps format, I just didn't really like how I had to pay for the L-Portal is my only complaint really.
I liked the overall format of this class. The practice tests helped me get prepared and know what to expect for the tests.
Great course. Professor Shaposhnikov gave detailed instructions and help, the course design was well-organized, and the pre-test practices were helpful for the tests. I also enjoyed the discussions between classmates, which were very beneficial for learning! 10/10 recommended!
Professor Shaposhnikov is really great! I had some difficult circumstances this semester and was incredibly lenient with me. He's incredibly caring and genuinely wants all of his students to be engaged and get as much as they can out of the class. Great guy and would recommend for anyone taking calculus.
The class is 85% Exams and 15% Homework. The Exams are not necessarily easy but very well set up. It's open notes and open internet as it's asynchronous, so if you can solve the problems in the EXTENSIVE practice exams, you can solve the problems on the exams. You get 3 hours for 10-11 questions, and a very lenient curve. Final is comprehensive.
Please, take Nick as your Calc professor! He is super caring, if you get a low grade, he will be respectful and is open to helping you. He cares about you, and his feedback is entertaining and helpful. I have never had a math class I thoroughly enjoyed until this one. Thanks, Professor Shaposhnikov!
He is the best, as long as you follow the lecture you will be fine. He LOVES diligent students, trust me, you will get a surprise.
Professor Shaposhnikov was great. This was easily the best online course I have taken. He responds fast to messages and the class is really easy if you just do the practice tests; you'll be fine.
I took this class in the summer. It was too lenient (e.g. 5 attempts on tests), and lacking in content on integration. To be prepared for 3B, I advise taking 3A in Fall/Spring. This professor uses a $50 third-party platform called ShortcutMath. It's a waste when other math classes I have taken provide materials with no additional charge on Canvas.
His class was not difficult for me, he had many resources for each of us, and was flexible when taking the exams, we just to communicate if needed for an extension
I am currently taking his class, and it has been great. I could've done better, but that was on me, can't wait to take Calc 2 with him during the spring.
This prof is a very caring(and funny) guy and his class is designed for you to succeed. He gives a lot of homework, but it is a math class... You have unlimited attempts on the homework and 5 attempts on quarter-tests and the final. He does have an annoying letter of recommendation policy so beware of that! His class also costs 50 dollars.
Professor Shaposhnikov is very understanding of student challenges. He is a great educator, calc requires a lot of effort, and many students work full time, and professor understands this, and makes it attainable for students to earn a decent grade. If you want to learn, you will learn a lot from his awesome teaching.
