amazingly hot scholar
Brilliant man! And a wonderful teacher. He's not out to get you.
brilliant. brilliant. dear god, he's so brilliant.

My Favorite teacher at VCU. Really cool guy. Seems like he is the type of prof that could be a friend. If you have the chance take him, coming from the mouth of an English major
Sharp is a pompous windbag. He's so full of himself it's amazing he can see out of his own rump.
Amazing teacher. Not the easiest, but he helps you a lot along the way so no one should really have a problem at least passing the class. HE KNOWS EVERYTHING. also kinda scary the first day, but you get used to it.
Shakespear is kind of hard, but prof. sharp makes it interesting and he is really good at it. Great to hear him quote lines and analyze characters for you cause you prob. didnt notice it about the character in the first place.
He's a great person who knows his literature. This can be greatly scary, if your not into it. But if you apply yourself, and listen to him, he's tells you everything you need to know.

Amazing, witty, on point and clued in to our times. I would suggest him to anyone interested in a challenging and informative class. He's adorable as well.

Wonderful teacher. Keeps everyone interested, he's witty, he puts modern spins on Shakespeare's plays, and keeps the class involved in discussions.
Tenured professor Shakespearean for over 25 years. Shakespearean Group faculty advisor. Refers to Greek and Roman literature and mythology. Requires reading and online discussion. Easily summarizes the plays and appreciates social & academic responsibility. Class participation is suggested.
i love it when he talks shakespeare to me!
It seems like he is more interested in movies than the play that we are studying. He rambles on about nothing. It's better to learn it on your own than attend class.
Sharp makes this course very interesting. If you are a fan of literature, you will really appreciate this guy. Also a good grade is very atainable, he says 60% of his students get an A or B in his classes .
Literature isn't all that great for me so that is my reason for not being so interested in this class. As a teacher, Nick Sharp is alright. His lectures are based on his thoughts about what is read so he may just have discussions with the students. But his weekly quizzes are simple if you read the material, so the class can be very easy.
Read the assignments and you'll pass this class, it isn't hard, although Dr Sharp's class discussions tend to go off on wild tangents, but they're still interesting.
very easy A. do all the readings and you will not be surprised.
Nick knows his stuff. He's witty, fun, and has a better grip than most professors on how to relate the context of material and then correspond it to, reasonably contemporary comparisons.
This is a great teacher!! WOW!
sharp rocks!
Nick Sharp is my favorite teacher at VCU. Talk about BRILLIANT. He's amazing, I wish all of my teachers were as intelligent, witty, and sarcastic. Don't take his class if you're a moron and not going to do your work.
Dr Sharp is really brilliant. He is really witty and has amazing insights into the works of shakespere. I loved his class and his lectures were really interesting. This class is a breeze if you just do the reading.
Pompous prihk all the way!
He is a funny guy and this is seriously the easiest class I've taken in college. He even told us that if we read we dont have to come to the lectures just the quizzes and tests. I got an A and went one out of three days a week. HOWEVER, he is like 60 years old and the hot thing is quite false.
If you want to take the easiest class in all of college history, world lit is the one. You only have to attend the class for a totally of 30 minutes a week, for the weekly quiz. The quizzes are a breeze, and the midterm and final are just an accumulation of all the quizzes. And Mr.Sharp is not hot, he's old, I dont understand the hot scale on him.
Easy class... Only really need to attend for quizzes. Lectures posted to Blackboard. Dude wishes he was French. Good Humor.
sharp is by all means, an awesome professor. he is very intelligent, sarcastic and gives interesting lectures. you really only have to come every monday for the quiz, but his lectures on wednesday & friday are definitely worth listening to, especially if you didn't understand the reading. i would take any of his classes, and highly recommend him.
Sharp is a reject. I recieved an 89.7 and he would not round up to an A. Likes to hear himself talk. I only went to class once a week, just for the weekly quizzes. His class was simply not worth my time to go the rest of the week and everyone always just left. If you only want a grade and not to learn ANYTHING, take sharp. Waste of time.
People have the wrong idea about Sharp. Sharp is only an easy, disinterested professor with his 200 level courses, admittedly. He's an engaging, wonderful professor for the upper level courses I've taken with him, but just like in the lower level courses, he still has a crass and daunting wit about him.
Sharp puts his syllabus out in advance. Don't let it scare you though! It IS a lot of writing (one 15-page paper + 3 shorter) and reading, but not at all too much to handle. He is a fair essay grader and lets you make corrections on your essays. Funny, intelligent, great guy! Definitely take him if you can

Nick Sharp will help your writing. He is both a stern judge and an encouraging friend, which is pretty much the best thing I can say about anyone. His class is demanding and he does talk a lot, but he knows a lot too, so it's worth listening. Hands down, the best professor I've had at VCU.
Sharp is a great and very thought-provoking teacher. he has a lot of intresting things to say. You don't really have to go to the class to get a good grade. Just do the discussion boards and projects the best you can and eveything will be good. He's that kind of professor that makes you want to go to class. I would take this class if possible.
Terrible.
Dr. Sharp's class is the easiest class i've ever taken. all you have to do is post a discussion board each week and put forth a little bit of effort on your projects and you will do really good in his class. i went to about half of the classes and never read a word from any of the novels and got an "A".
He's really funny and sarcastic. Class isn't really mandatory; we don't take notes. As long as you do the discussion board entries and projects, you're pretty much guaranteed a good grade.
You know how everyone asks "Why should I take a gen ed lit class? What's the point? Why read anyway?" This class answers those questions. If you come to class and listen you WILL learn something about yourself. And if you choose not to come, your loss.
the prof himself is okay. his TAs suck. they are the harshest graders i've ever had. i've recieved a ZERO on two discussion board posts bc they were exactly 1 minute late.
FALL 07. Super easy for those who fear literature. 1 weekly discussion & 5 projects. NO tests NO papers! Had to read 4 books (~140pg each). Attend. not taken. No textbook or notes. Projects are powerpoint type & actually pretty fun. I am a math major -despise literature & reading- but I really enjoyed this class, & ended w/ a near perfect grade!
I have to agree with others here, he's a great guy but the TA's were useless. I got an A in the class but it was difficult with the way his TA's grade. They seem to forget we are not all english majors and they send out smart comments and nasty emails at random if you submit anything in Word 07 instead of 03. The reading is a lot but easy reading.
Go Green w/Prof. Sharp. We never had to print out a paper b/c you submit all assignments in digital dropbox and he didn't even expect you to take notes in class, as if that many people went anyway. Follow the syllabus by doing all assignments and follow given examples close for projects and you should earn a GPA booster! Great class, Prof, and TA's
I was enrolled in the M/W/F class and only attended 10 classes the entire semester. I ended up with a B only because the TA's grade so harshly on the discussion board questions. You could get away with a lot with the projects. I never went to class because I didn't feel that it was necessary. Take him if you want an easy grade!
He's a great teacher! People disrespect him though because the only form of attendance in the class is that he gives a 10 question quiz every Monday on the last lecture's reading assignment. So during the week, there will be like 8 people at each lecture, but on Mondays, there's suddenly 300 people! Lots of reading, but it's interesting material ^^
This semester he changed it up!!!dunno why!! I had a weekly discussions hw, MIDTERM (the class average 71%-- not cool, NOT cool at all), the project, and a FINAL EXAM. We had no books to read though. Tricky test is tricky since the class isn?t structured much so it?s hard to know what to study for
His classes are generally a waste of time. Although it is awesome we don't have to attend to pass and that he posts his lectures on blackboard, the class is very unstructured. The midterm was hard to study for because of this. The discussion boards are easy as long as you stay on topic. If you actually come to class he goes off topic constantly.
Sharp put an interesting twist on literature. I liked his class, but I hardly ever went because his tests were easy if you just READ or LOOKED AT the assignments. Seriously, good class.
Knowledgeable teacher but what a boring class. Classes seem unstructured and time passes by slowly. Content of the studied materials are interesting, not the lectures themselves.
lectures are definitely not very interesting. don't HAVE to go to class. there are discussion board posts every week, but they aren't terrible. look at the items on the syllabus and you should be fine.
I went to a total of 4 classes. The very first class, 1 for the midterm, 1 for the final, and 1 just for kicks. His lectures were interesting, but the class drags on a bit. His final was identical to the midterm with a few new questions thrown in. The materiel he was teaching was a breath of fresh air from classic English classes.
UGH. We didn't use that book at ALL.
Very interesting class.. discussion board postings every week so hope you get a good TA.!! 1 final project and 3 test..A good professor overall and would recommend him to anyone
Never went to class, got a B+. Lectures are pointless, he posts notes on BB. I don't think the TA's ever give a 100% on the discussion board questions, just not possible. Project is easy, tests are a give away. He doesn't even try to make them challenging, it seems like. Never found him funny like most people did, just not my style I guess.
Supposedly was a good class to take before, but not that he changed the format, I have no idea what is going on. It is supposed to be a LIT class, yet half of the material is this weird internet stuff. Too much material, but easy to get a B if you do all of the assignments and put forth a little effort
This class is so easy as long as you do the work! Don't miss any of the posts or you will regret it! I never cracked the book and hardly went to class and still got an B and the only reason was that I missed a few wall posts.
Dr. Sharp is an interesting/funny character. His lectures are not mandatory but the tests do have some stuff that will only be discussed in class. He changed the format this year and put up internet stuff which was kind of interesting. Tests are xtremely easy just review the notes and know basic facts about the works. Dont buy the book its pointles
Its an easy class if you get a good TA. If you get Gregory Kimbrell as a TA you might as well not even write the papers. The average grade on his papers is 65 and the professor wont discuss it with you. GOOD LUCK!
Even thinking about him makes me puke! He's arrogant, mean and does not care about the students. Embarrasses people infront of everyone if you go try to talk to him after class. TA's sucks! they grade harsher than a even a real engl prof. would do. Overall, they make me puke!
This class is a crock, just like all lit classes that are mandatory. He sucks, his TA's suck, his class lectures are rambles that often have nothing to do with the topic he is "teaching". Avoid him if you can, at best you get a low passing grade even if you work yourself to death.
Worst course at VCU. TAs grade very hard and class is not interesting AT ALL. The most annoying part is attendance to not mandatory so even if you go to every class you might still fail the papers and the person who never goes might pass because they have the easier TA. Don't take this class!!!
Sharp is a very good teacher who makes this class very interesting!Even though it's not mandatory, you have to go because the tests are on readings, and stuff he says in lecture!Hard to get an A on the essays but finally pulled it off- all the TA's grade about the same. Only two tests and they're not hard if you go to class and look at the material
He is so very helpful and will talk to you about the topics forever if you are interested. He is very nice and puts up with alot of annoying loud people in this large class. He doesn't ever try to be mean or embaress people; he is just very genuinely interested in the topics and helpful. Great professor! Tests are not that hard if you go to class!
Apparently this class used to be easy- its not now. Dont take it, you will never want to go and its a huge waste of time. There isnt anything practical to this class and you TA won't respond to emails and neither will he, so dont bother emailing.
you know that feeling you get when you've wasted your time and you could have been doing something else? welcome to sharp's english 215 class. he talks about NOTHING, teaches NOTHING yet has so much on his exams that he never talked about! DO NOT TAKE HIM! also he might give you his phone number and try to start casual conversation. STRANGE MUCH?!
EASY CLASS. Sharp makes literature interesting. He has a unique style in teaching. He does not try to make things difficult for students. As long as you review the lectures (which are posted online) & review his practice exam questions (which make up half the midterm!) it's an easy A or B! Definitely would recommend this guy! He's great!
First part of semester easy. Last half IMPOSSIBLE. His grading scale is terrible. So are the TA's. Dont email anyone, you wont get any answers. No structure to the class. SnoozeFEST! Project a joke, but he takes it seriously. No explanation on any assignments. B is hard to get. He thinks he knows EVERYTHING. BOOK is almost as useless as the class!
I am an English Major and I DREADED this class. It should be called 'Things Nick Sharp Thinks' because that's what you get tested on--his opinions. He's arrogant and unspecific. He acts like he's freeing his students from a formal, structed class, but the lack of structure is maddening! Your grade depends enitrely on which TA you get. DO NOT TAKE.
avoid this class. his grading scale is messed up and his TAs are useless. you absolutely learn nothing so it's just a waste of time and money
This class was awful. I echo everything previously written about lazy TAs and "Things Nick Sharp Thinks". Also, don't be fooled, Sharp uses a high school grading scale. MAKES NO SENSE. AND to top it off, my essays for the course were being graded by an exchange student who has been in the US for a year. DON'T take Sharp. DON'T take this course!
I barley ever went to class and got a B. The class is honestly too big for any teaching to get done. The TA's are idiots so if you have questions just ask Professor Sharp. it's pretty easy as long as you do your work it's worth taking for any easy B.
Class is very boring but if you have to take him you should go because there will be questions on the exam from just his lectures even though he posts the slides. Very hard to get an A. I went to all classes, took notes, and did serious work on my project yet I still ended up with a B.
pretty easy & somewhat interesting. class can be very boring. u dont have to go at all if u can do good on a midterm & final from notes he posts on blkbrd 2 exams and 3 easy papers everyone should get an A or B unless u dont look over your notes and bomb those easy papers. no book but u have to buy mycomplab which is like $60 i think
i forgot to mention the project at the end which is really easy if u can think of a good topic. also his grading scale is pretty stupid. dont take the class just because but if its a choice among required classes, take it, its pretty easy. bullsh*t the papers & review 4 exams
He is great! And yes, you do actually have to go to class if you want an A/B because 1/2 of what he says is not on his notes! You do have to go. Seriously it's 50 minutes. Put your opinions on the essays and final project. TA's are dumb but he is so helpful and really really nice! Very interesting and prob. the easiest english class I've had
LOVE THIS TEACHER! He's very easy to follow, as long as you go to class. Classes can be a bit boring, but the range of his subjects is remarkable. From Rihanna to Shakespeare to Marvel Comics, he knows what he is talking about and shows it. Also very understanding about having to miss a couple classes.
Shakespeare can be pretty boring, and the lectures did not interest me. But if you read the plays, and go to class sometimes. Papers are bearable, and he's a great professor. When I did go to class, He always had us laughing. Very fair with grades, understanding, I'd reccomend him.
Professor Sharp's class is extremely easy to pass. Easy to get an A even. He does not care if you come to class as long as you do your reading and write the two papers and come to the midterm and exam. I missed at least 12 classes and still got an A on every assignment. His test questions all come from the readings and not lecture material.
Sharp is a character for sure. I didn't like him at the beginning, but by the end I liked him a decent amount. Trails off in lecture, only had 4 grades for the whole class which was nice but also sucked since your entire grade is based on that. His tests are hard, but he seems to grade easier on papers.
Understanding with attendance and stuff, but class drove me crazy. Went off-topic ALL THE TIME and had a habit of saying off-color things. People are saying his tests were difficult but I actually didn't think so as they were pretty straight-forward. Subjective grader when it came to papers though -- never knew what to expect. Overall he way okay.
I found Professor Sharp's eng 215 class to be really easy. Even though it says attendance is mandatory on the syllabus, he doesn't take attendance.I skipped quite a bit and still managed a high B. He grades fairly and doesn't give pointless assignments. He will get off topic during lecture, but he's a pretty funny guy.
People can have their opinions, but I loved him and his class. Seriously, just go, he's not strict on attendance but it's worth going to know what he expects in your papers, helps with topics too. I admire him as a professor and as a writer. He might go off topic in class, but I would recommend taking him.
Professor Sharp is a great professor, as long as your try and just think a little bit about your papers you'll fine. Loose attendence policy and he is willing to talk about the topics with much interest. He does go off at times but so what you don't have to agree with him. I enjoyed his 215 class and as an English major I would recommend his class.
He knows his stuff. He's easily taken off topic, but it can be amusing. You can pretty much use whatever format for the reading you want, very loose attendance policy. If you just write about good definitive topics you can get a good grade.
This class was HORRIBLE. Sharp is frequently offensive and generally inappropriate. It is a VERY hostile classroom environment. His lectures (and they are lectures) are frequently off-topic and useless. The papers are quite easy, though. I would strongly recommend that no one ever take a class with him.
I noticed Dr. Sharp had some bad reviews and that was surprising. Sharp is great, he is deeply engaged with his field. Eager to help with papers and topic if you come to his office. As for being offensive: If you didn't expect sex to come up in an Elizabethan literature class you obviously did not know what the subject matter was before attending.
Crass, insightful, hilarious, unorthodox. A great professor with a real passion for Shakespeare. I suppose one could complain that he wanders off on tangents. But if one does the reading, it's not hard to get the important lesson from his class. Be prepared to read, the writing isn't too hard. Exams can be challenging if one is not prepared.
Professor Sharp only takes attendance for the first couple of classes, but then you never have to show up, except to turn in the papers. For this class, there were only three papers, so only three grades. He's pretty easy on grading though. He's passionate about what he teaches and will mix in things about his life here and there, be warned.
So I have him for english 215 now and it is honestly my easiest class. We have like 6 major papers for the whole year and he grades them really easy. I barley even go to class and I have a B and have gotten Bs on all of my papers even though I turn them all in late. Easy grade for sure
He made Shakespeare amazing
He rambled too much about his life in class. The work is so easy but going to class is a waste of time. He doesn't take attendance and doesn't care about his students. Just read the plats and write the papers; don't bother showing up to class.
Dr. Sharp is the best professor I've had at VCU so far. If you plan to major in English I highly recommend taking him. This class will help you out in the long run because his essays really make you think about the text and analyze in great depth. You can learn so much just from coming to class and listening to the man talk!
If you are an English major, and you genuinely care about the English language as an artistic utensil, take Sharp. An absolute beacon of light of a man. He doesn't take attendance and I feel compelled to go anyway.
Nicholas Sharp is a great professor, and an even better human being, which is cool. The man teaches with a passion, and the only thing that would keep you from an A is a lack of effort or intent. He's very genuine in his care for students and not afraid of pushing your buttons. He pokes fun at everyone, but devotes time to you, just ask.
If you're hoping to analyze Shakespeare through discussion, this isn't the class for you. His opinion seems to be the only one that matters. He's hilarious and I really wanted to like him, but his lectures have some hurtful comments thrown in. If you're gay or trans, prepare for a lot of comments about how you're just trying to feel special.
He is super nice! Don't really have to show up to class as long as you stay up on the readings and complete the essays. The essays are the only things that matter. He's super cool!
