cool guy, but awful professor tests were hard and lectures were bad
if he knows anything about chem, it doesn't show in class or out
i know more about his family than chem itself. take the class to learn random facts, not chem. His exams have nothing to do with lecture.
Tells you to study things that are not on the tests, Puts things that weren't taught yet on the tests, His answers to questions don't help or make you understand better, Rambles on about irrelavent topics, Difficult to get a decent grade in his lecture
If you want to learn....try another class.
Worst class at Hall. Corny. No personality. Why is this CLOWN teaching.
talks forever about random stuff. tests are not bad. can be a little condescending. you will know about his car, his wife, virginia tech, and how "awesome" he thinks he is. will give hundreds of sports and **** analogies. has mullet
He is the worst chem teacher ever. He teaches everyone on a graduate course level when it is a chem class for non science majors. His tests have absolutely nothing to do with the lecture or the reading, awfully boring,if you wanna pass dont take him.

THIS IS THE WORST TEACHER!!! YOU LEARN MORE ABOUT HIS LIFE THEN THE TOPIC!!!!
Pompus. Arrogant. Condescending. Not helpful. I work as an analytical chemist and got a B in his class b/c if your not in his research group, you won't get an A. This jerk runined my 4.0 for no reason. Idiot. You won't learn from him. I know, I do what he attempts to teach for a living.
He's not a bad professor. Yea he talks about his family, but you do learn a lot and he is a very nice guy. I would recommend taking him for Chem 1103.
Professor Snow is a chemist and nothing more. He doesn't teach effectively and should stay in the lab!
Prof. Snow is ridiculous. He belongs doing experiments somewhere, not teaching an intro class. his tests dont reflect the material discussed in class unless you went home and googled the topics for 28393 hours. dont have to show up much however, since the lectures arent on the test !! just dont take him
His class was very easy. Most of the exams were take home, and the final was open-notes, open-book. Most of the questions came from previous tests, so you can just copy you're old answers if you did well. His class is boring, but you can play minesweeper. You'll learn a decent amount too. He's a decent guy. Easy A.
He's an awful professor - rude, obnoxious, confusing, and he thinks he's the smartest guy on the planet. Gives awful quizzes that don't match the material in the lectures. Don't take this guy's class! Lectures are worthless!
Awful professor, arrogant and Condescending. He thinks he?s the smarter guy in the planet, I found that TA is better than him . Do not waste your time you won?t learn from him.
Just a bad professor. Nothing else to be said.
Dr. Snow was a very easy professor. 25% of the grade was based on online homework, and you didn't even have to get the questions right to get credit. Most of the test questions came from there, and most of the final questions came from previous tests. He was also very helpful in office hours. I would highly recommend taking him.
The worst professor in the entire department and he unfortunately is also the chair.
I took Professor Snow for Gen Chem and he was probably one of the worst professors I have ever taken. He uses the same four phrases when lecturing and he never completely works through his examples. I would highly recommend not taking him if you don't have to.
THE worst professor I have ever encountered. Failed to provide clear examples in class, all of which verbatim from book. If you didn't understand something on HW, look elsewhere for help. Lecture is terribly vague. The examples he did provide only showed the class that HE knew how to do it. Didn't teach us how to. Astonishingly arrogant man.
Snow was a challenge, but was manageable if you actually did all of the assignments when he recommended them to be done by and studied incredibly hard for exams. Most of the questions in exams were from MasteringChem, the textbook, or his lecture slides, and they really were not too bad. Beware of the open-endeds. He's not great at explainer.
If you can avoid taking Snow, avoid it! He usually doesn't finish examples in class and makes many mistakes which makes everything even more confusing than it already is. The only grades are three tests, the final, and MasteringChemistry, so if you struggle with exams, it is very difficult to keep your grade up. Get ready to self teach.
If you have never taken a Chemistry class before, or did and need more instruction through the class, Snow is probably not for you. His class is great in the sense that he doesn't take attendance, and you can easily learn the material through the large amount of homework. Just keep up with the work and learn how to go through things solidarity.
didnt learn anything in lecture gonna have to selfteach. has hw, get 100s on those, everything counts. has a big curve. splits people that got a D, lower end gets Fs, higher end gets pushed up. if u have a C, now ur a B. Get a study group, it's a lot. study the past exams. don't show up to class, waste of time. or u can do other work during class
Professor Snow is one of the worst professor's the field of chemistry has ever seen. He has tendencies to veer off track and attempt to engage the class in pointless discussions. He does an awful job of explaining topics and tends to leave problems incomplete. Overall, whatever you do run from Professor Snow!!
Get ready to study for 267897 hours and still feel like you're doing poorly in the class. Exams are tough. He does problems in class but doesn't finish them and then expects you to go home and "turn the crank on that." Doesn't effectively teach the material or explain clearly. Expect a lot of self-teaching and mastering chem homework.
I don't care how intelligent/adaptable you think you are, this class will ruin you. You never know what your grade is because the 4 test grades don't translate to your final grade, and no matter how hard you study there is NOTHING that can properly prepare you for these tests. I've seen people crying tears of joy over a 76. Made me change major.
If you did WELL in AP Chem and do the MasteringChem homework you will get an A. Honestly this class was easy (for me). He puts up old exams to study from and that helps a lot. Exams are a mix of mastering chem questions and old exam questions so if you know how to do those you will be fine. He didnt seem like an unfair professor to me. Study hard.
Steep curve, a lot of MasteringChemistry homework, exams mostly straightforward. Study past exams, GO TO TUTORING FOR HOMEWORK IT WILL HELP, and try to pay attention to labs and lectures, to help things sink in better. He could be worse, but he really could be better. Seems like a standard Chemistry teacher.
if you want to pass chemistry do not take this professor ever!! please take laviska instead even if it is a summer course, i promise you it will be worth it. you have about 40 long multi question questions on mastering chem ever two days and are almost impossible to finish if you do not use up all of your time for it. he makes it extremely irritati
do not take this prof
worst chem class ever. nice person but not a good teacher
not a good experience in this class. do yourself a favor and take laviska instead even if it puts you behind a semester it will be worth it
dont do it do not take this professor pls
Do yourself the favor and take Laviska. You will not learn anything from Snow. His class is pointless. I payed attention and would learn absolutely nothing that pertained to the exams. You get so much Mastering Chemistry and his exams are very hard. Your hard work will not pay off in the end.
stay away from this professor you will not learn ANYTHING and it will be a waste of your time and money and a HUGE blow to your gpa. take him and you can kiss the program that you are in goodbye
Dr. Snow isn't the best professor, but he is ok. It doesn't matter if you show up to class or not, he just rambles on about his research. As long as you do average on each test (60s-70s) you will get a B in the class. Mastering Chem is long and time-consuming so make sure you stay on top of the workload. Do average and you're fine.
Prof. Snow definitely was a shock to many incoming freshman. His teaching style relied on the homework he gave and the students had to read the textbook. If you can not and or ARE NOT WILLING to actually sit down and read the textbook then choose a different teacher. But if you are committed to passing and doing the homework, you will pass.
Dr. Snow likes to insinuate that students who didn't take him for Gen Chem 1 but have him for Gen Chem 2 won't pass. His lectures are honestly pointless, because he casually starts a math-based question, then doesn't even finish it. Going to him for help is pointless, because he tells you he doesn't give the grade of D - you geta C- or you fail.
Snow should not be teaching anyone, let alone freshmen. Having him year 1 made me physically ill from stress... what a bad first impression of college. Class useless, you have to teach yourself EVERYTHING so don't even show up. Tests are ROUGH and grade scale makes no sense. If you get him, try and you'll pass.. but your sanity is more important.
He's so terrible. Don't take this class. He doesn't know how to teach chemistry and he's a tough grader, which it's not a good combination. I try so hard and still his exams are so hard because he puts stuff he's never explained.
nice guy but will not teach you much; you need to go through the textbook and teach yourself in order to pass; definitely challenging but can pass if you do everything yourself- more problems, learning concepts, looking up videos ect
This class requires a lot of extra time for homework and studying. If you do the homework and study practice problems you will be fine but his exams are really difficult. He usually will add a curve and explains grading throughout the semester. Very understanding and helpful during office hours so go if you are struggling. Pay attention in lecture!
Dr. Snow has to be one of the hardest professors I've ever taken. I've spent about 7-14 hours per exam(5 exams total plus final so 6), and I knew this professor was bad when I was happy to get a 72 on a test with a curve. You need to put in lots of time studying after class in order to understand him. Do not take him if you want free time.
Do NOT take his class. This class requires you to teach yourself by doing heavy homework assignments. However, they dont help that much when it comes to the exams. I got through the semester by constantly watching YouTube videos. Even when you put in a lot of effort, you would still do mediocre on the exams. Exam heavy. Prepare to teach yourself.
Professor Snow is a terrible teacher. He cannot teach chemistry and assigns time-consuming and strenuous homework problems. The tests are very difficult because the homework doesn't go over those problems and he barely covers those difficult problems in class. I got through this class by videos and study groups. Overall, I do not recommend at all.
He's not the worst professor ever. It was a very difficult class but using study groups on teams and stuff really helped. Sometimes lectures don't match the HWs, and HWs don't match test. Even if you do kind of bad you might end up with a B. Grading system saves u at the end. YOU WON'T DIE just study hard, work with a few buddies and, well, GL lol.
This man makes me moist with his excellent teaching and lectures. Take this man over Laviska, Laviska is in need of psychiatric meds. 2nd semester is best with him or bunopane, avoid lavish at all costs
Avoid at all costs. Attendance was 40/150 & thats his teaching quality. If youre stuck: go to SI and tutoring, watch YT vids, only use book for practice problems (other stuff confusing), use all HW attempts, don't be a min late for reflections, & you won't get extensions for HW or rescheduled tests no matter what. Curve will save you, work hard, GL
He cant teach. Dont take him if you want to hear about him rambling on about his personal life. He'd let us leave class early when we could have used that time going over confusing concepts. Tests make no sense & is nothing from the notes/hw. Notes are mainly pictures & not everyone learns properly that way. His hws make me cry & are frustrating.
Made me hate chemistry. His tests are nothing like the lectures or even the smart works, they are literally trivia and multistep word problems. Get ready to teach yourself. I honestly don't know how I passes because failed basically all the exams he just truly gave us a big curve at the end. I would study for hours on end just to be disappointed.
This man does not know how to teach; he'll insist that you teach yourself out of the textbook before showing up to lecture, because, and I quote, "You can't expect to engage with the material if you don't already know it." HW is unrelated to the tests and tests are more about being able to decipher what he is asking than the actual material.
STAY AWAY! if you want to do good, you NEED to read the textbook AND do all the practice problems in the back of the chapter. That's the only thing that will help you, don't bother looking at the useless homework he assigns. His lectures are a waste of time, you end up teaching yourself anyway and his slides are good for NOTHING!
If you want to fail take this course, he makes hard topics even harder by "teaching" the bare minimum then gives you problems he probably does for fun. Hell on earth
Have mercy
Dr. Snow was my favorite professor, I even took him twice. He gives the option of the class online (with no penalty) and in person, and every lecture is recorded. We had 5 tests both semesters, a reflection every other week, and a homework assignment on each chapter. The homework can be lengthy but you get what you put into the class.
if you actually want to learn chemistry, dont take this professor. all the exams are online and he drops the lowest one. lecture are in person and online and u can choose whatever he never takes attendance. funny guy but he talks more about what he thinks is cool than the content. chegg is your bestfriend here.
He gives lengthy homework and the tests are hard, but he really cares about his students. Keep him in the loop if you're going through something and he'll accomodate. I didn't resonate with his teaching style, but he is very helpful.
Work intensive. Lectures are light on content but are useful introductions to subject fields. You will not pass this class if you do not read the textbook thoroughly. Solve Smartwork problems yourself (no Chegg) and you'll do fine on tests. Curve is substantive: If you have a 100% homework average & get low 80s/high 70s on tests you can get the A.
This man is the sole reason I might drop pre-med. Lectures were boring and entirely unnecessary. Said the final was from previous exams and only 5/50 on the final are questions I recognized from previous exams. You're best bet is to do the HW to help yourself. Only redeeming factor is he curves. Other than that, do not take his class.
The work load for this class is excessive, but your grade reflects your effort it's an easy A if you work in advance Dr. Snow separates the slackers and dedicated Do not submit HW or Reflections late Lectures are a waste of time just re-watch the example problems - use youtube and tutors Search "John D Chemistry" on youtube for outline of textbook
He is the worst human, a failure research scientist and good for nothing. He is worst than a school teacher, cannot teach. The very first day he would judge you based on your looks and then the whole semester he would give you the least grade possible. May be has a preferred skin color or gender bias. I would not have him as my driver also.
Honestly, Professor Snow is a nice guy, but he cannot teach to save his life. The entire lecture is just him doing chemistry problems. Go to ARC tutoring, read the book, get 100's on the Smartworks, watch The Organic Chemistry Tutor, and you should pass. It sucks, but you'll get through it.
STAY AWAY. this professor is actually horrible, class averages on exams are failing grades which reflect on the quality of teaching. lectures are a big waste of time. 5 exams but drops the lowest one, curves but you don't know your grade because he practically makes one up at the end of the semester. tests are convoluted questions nothing like hw
Snow does not care about his students at all. His tests were nearly impossible and I failed every one of them. When I emailed him asking for help in how I can do better (which he advised my class to do) he told me that I am not trying hard enough and I'm pretty much a lost cause. He expects everyone to already know everything and does not teach.
If you want an easy A then take him. He cares about his students. It is basically an online class, but you can attend in person. Everything from exams to homework is online. However, the exams are a bit difficult but he does drop the lowest grade. There is homework which is easy and one page reflections every week. Overall, hes not a bad professor!
He should not be your introduction to Chemistry. Lectures as if you've read the entire chapter before class even began. Gives exams that have little to no relevance to the amount of subject material he covers in class. Do NOT take. Went through multiple medical episodes throughout the semester and wrote me an email shaming my behavior.
Snow is a decent teacher, IF you have a chem background prior to attending class. I've done a lot of chem in my past so it was okay, but still challenging. He isn't the best at reflecting question styles that will be on his test, and the tests were online in a considerable short amount of time. I don't think he really expected anyone to get 100.
yooo good luck, all tests are in person now so youre actually screwed, thank the snitch lolz
Purposely ends classes earlier on "nice days", and basically says don't ask questions so he could zoom through. Exams are nothing like the lectures/hw and his lectures are a complete waste of time. He never gives a full 20 credit on HW assignments - thanks CANVAS for showing he's a petty waste. I hope he doesn't have tenure bc he should be fired
What a waste of space at Seton Hall when other and better professors could be in his place. He makes chemistry unbearable and his homework and slides are NOTHING like the exam. Horrible professor and he deserves to be fired.
THIS GUY IS HARD ASF but he will actually teach you what you are willing to learn. Hopefully you catch on by the 2nd practice problem or he'll leave you in the dust. Also be ready to write a paper every week. He won't boost your grade and will clown you if you walk in late. He is alright though.
This class was awful. Tests were so hard. Lectures were boring and awful. The test averages were never higher than a 60. Homework was not hard at all and homework reflections were not hard either. Dr. Snow is kind but I don't recommend him as a professor.
Professor Snow's chemistry course is incredibly difficult, especially for beginners. He rushes through lectures with minimal information on slides and doesn't revisit material if students fall behind. Exams are confusingly worded and nothing like the assignments that HE recommends for preparation. If you have to take him sit in a corner and cheat.
Just a mean guy. When emailing for a question he avoids answering, is not very understanding of circumstances. Awful teacher during lectures.
horrible for gen chem 1. if you dont have any backround in chemistry good luck. Prides himself for a failing average on every exam and tells students its because they arn't disiplined enough to suceed. Lectures and homework dont match exam questions at all
This was awful. I asked for an office hours appointment three separate times and was just told to "self-evaluate" myself. Exam averages were never higher than a 60 and he refused to answer any questions regarding the exams. Homework was 10x easier than exams and he refused to give anything above a 90 on reflection assignments. Would never recommend
If you do not have a solid chemistry background this class if definitely a challenge even though it was gen chem I. There is not a real way to study because all tests are based on lectures and textbooks.. All tests are averaged around a 60, and tests are a major part of the grade. Attendance is not mandatory, and all lectures are recorded.
do not take him unless you absolutely have to. one of the worst options for a chem prof. it is very hard to succeed unless you have a strong chemistry background in the past. tests are hard but he does drop the lowest and curves your grade at the end of the semester, an 85 is an A.
Very rude during private interactions, unclear grading, discriminatory towards students
He cannot teach. His tests were significantly difficult compared to those of the other professors. very rude in public AND in private, is not understanding whatsoever. If you're stuck with him, study from the textbook and solve A LOT of problems and you'll be fine since the curve saves you. He has 5 exams, drops the lowest one, and then the final.
His slides and lectures are unclear and don't align with what he puts on the exam. The exams are also hard and are nothing like the questions he did in class. He also has an attitude and doesn't answer questions. He does curve everything and add random assignments to boost grades but it still doesn't help much in the long run.
Lots of smart work homework and you have to write a few essays. Bad lectures but you should go because you're cooked without it. Learned more from SI. Can be mean, final is cumulative as well. Use smart work to study
snow often lets his ego get in the way of good teaching and will call u out in front of everyone when u are even a couple mins late to class. he does not answer questions directly and dodges explanations. do not take this class if you are bad at chem because his teaching is extremely vague and often does not make sense.
