Exams are extremely difficult but don't panic! He curves your grade at the end of the semester. Big HW load, until he realized how big it was and started paring it down. You do have to pay for the HW, which will be the case for any pima physics class. Don't worry about labs. Go to class, email him with any questions you have and you will do well.
Nick was very helpful and very understanding throughout the whole course. If you put in the work you will get the grade you desire.
Make sure to do the homework and attend lab—they're incredibly useful. He's a great professor who truly cares about each of his students. He explains lecture content clearly and will work with you one-on-one if you need help. The midterms are unique and conceptual, testing true understanding. Truly one of the best professors out there.
Professor Valverde is very passionate about teaching physics and genuinely cares about the success of his students. His teaching style is a bit odd, but you just have to get used to it. If you have questions just reach out to him and he responds quickly and is very helpful.
Good professor. Tests are concept and algebra heavy, but light on actual numbers. He is a very chill educator, and his classes are usually fun. Doing the homework is helpful for understanding the material, but the homework itself is usually harder than the tests will be.
The lowest he will give you is a B. If you try, an A is very doable. Really nice and understanding guy.
Nick Valverde is a really good professor and will take the time to answer questions and will stay after class to help students with questions. He will also provide study material and resources to help study. I would highly recommend this professor if your interested in physics.
I didn't do well at all because I'm just bad at Physics, but this teacher is awesome. Very understanding of someone of my "IQ level".
There's a lot to learn, but he provides helpful resources. Time outside of class to learn the material is expected (very important). He answers questions, meets with students, and replies to emails promptly. Though new to teaching, he's passionate about physics- I'm sure he'll grow into his version of Paul Hewitt or Walter Lewin in no time.
Professor Valverde really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The homework isn't terrible and he will help with it in class sometimes and responds quickly when emailed. I personally struggled with the algebra of the class but that isn't his fault, but I understood the concepts well thanks to him.
Nick understands and enjoys physics making him a great physics teacher. goofy guy who thinks he is funnier than he is. -always had a great time -absolutely would take again -Would recommend!
Nick, is an excellent professor. Often in physics or math it important to just sit down and drill through problems making it the most efficient way to learn the material and appreciated the feedback. He was open for helping. Highly encourage anyone that wants learn in an efficient way to solve complex problems to take his class.
I liked Nick as a professor, sometimes the lectures were hard to follow, but that could have been due to some classmates having their own personal conversation at full volume. I struggled with the content, but I would have done better if I was able to spend more time on the homework. He was very understanding and graded nicely.
Nick's teaching and grading style is quite unique, which can be a bit intimidating at first. However, he's a very funny, chill, caring, and inspiring teacher. His passion for physics really shows, and his lectures are engaging. While the exams are challenging and some concepts can be difficult, he's always willing to help and support his students.
Professor is pretty young and it's clear he's still figuring out what works versus what doesn't, That being said, Nick was awesome as a teacher. He didn't make attendance mandatory but definitely encouraged it and he's super understanding that physics just doesn't click with some people. Overall, I would definitely take a class with him again.
Dr. Valverde is very cool and he replied very fast to your emails also he is very accesible, exams are a bit hard, but one advantage is that he opens up all the homework and labs so you can finish them all in a couple of weeks.
I had Nick Valverde for both 121 and 122. Wouldn't have made it without him. Shout-out to Nick for taking the time to explain and re-explain topics and creating real-life models (with my necklace) for us to see how motion works lol.
Dr. Valverde is great. Pima decides to use Pearson which came with a handful of issues. However, Dr. Valverde was obviously making efforts to help students be successful. He was easy to get a hold of and responded to my emails/questions in a timely manner.
Great Teacher and knows what he's talking about, but you REALLY gotta make sure you ask your questions and make sure his answer is as clear as possible. Great dude, totally fair and very reasonable, But lack of leniency for work being turned in late. I Appreciated that he let me know what improvement and progress I was making in class.
Nick was honest, engaging, and relatable. He was direct about exam expectations during lecture, and humored every question asked. He could've handled class disruptions better for those of us with focus issues; often times I became frustrated by our excitable class. With a little more preparation before lecture, Nick could be a great professor.
He is very professional and very willing to help. The class was also very well organized.
I think Nick does a great job with responding quickly to emails. He once responded within 20 minutes of me sending an email at 10pm. Although this was an online course, he seemed kind and understanding. However, he struggles with imputing grades consistently throughout the semester. Other than that, he's great!
Dr. Valverde did the best he could, given a shoddy course structure for a 7 week physics class. He always answered his emails and was very considerate.
One of the best professors I have had, especially for a difficult course like physics 2. Nick is very understanding and actually cares about the success of his students. This made a difficult course much more bearable as he is always willing to help! He is quick to respond to emails and always shows he cares!
Nick cares about your success more than anything. One of the few professors that is willing to help you out and make sure you are going to succeed in the class. Physics 2 taken online and in half a semester is a very challenging course, but he will make sure that you put your best foot forth, knowing the challenging circumstances.
The professor is clear, organized, and effective in teaching the material, even in an online setting. They explain concepts in a way that's easy to understand and follow. Their flexible late work policy shows they care about students' responsibilities outside of class.
Professor Valverde is very smart, and the class is tough but fair. It includes lectures and labs, and attendance is a must—missing even one class can set you back. Don't be afraid to ask questions; I didn't, and it made things very difficult. Stay engaged and seek help when needed.
Nick Valverde is a good professor; he is hard to understand and follow at first but with a few extra out of class hours with him I was able to catch up and follow along much better. I wish he would take more time to explain the meaning and context of the formulas given but mainly the problem I had was with doing the Achieve homework and not Nick.
Nick is a great professor, he holds his class to a higher standard and is flexible. The class in general is hard, and is designed to be that way. Lots of homework but Nick does adjust it to make the class more doable. Nick uses almost no numbers, everything is in variables. Its jarring but you will be better at approching physics questions.
Nick is a fantastic professor! The content is challenging, but Nick is very understanding, flexible, and always wants to help you learn. He allows exam corrections, and the homework has unlimited attempts. As long as you put in the work and show your effort (in class too), you will get a great grade and have a positive experience.
This is the best professor I have ever had in a science class. The course material is very difficult, but our prof explains it clearly and from the first day has given us clear guidance about the level of effort required to learn what we need to know for exams and to continue in further coursework. He's consistently brilliant and always helpful.
the professor has a more forgiving grading style course is very lecture heavy but there is plenty of time to work on practice problems he gives a good amount of extra credit. though the lectures don't teach everything you do need to do the homework to understand all of the material.
Dr. Valverde is an excellent professor! Physics II is a lot—especially online and accelerated—but he breaks it into clear, manageable parts and helps students focus on what physics concepts most. His teaching helped me truly understand the material and develop a genuine appreciation for physics and its real-world relevance. Highly recommend!
Dr. Valverde was so helpful this semester. I really appreciated how if you solved something wrong in the labs you were still able to explain why what you did was wrong and still receive full credit. I also felt like his D2L page was organized and deadlines were easier to keep track of compared to my PHYS 121IN class. Overall, a 10/10 professor!
He is a great professor but physics is a lot and it is hard. There is a lot of reading and homework to learn all of the material. Not very many videos. Since this is a short class there is a lot to do and there are still 5 exams. He is always available if you need help though. You have to be willing to spend a lot of time doing it though.
Professor Valverde was a very intentional and helpful instructor, helping guide students through the very fast faced 7 week physics II course. He was a good grader and was my favorite professor at Pima so far.
This professor seemed to care a lot about students, had clear grading criteria, and answered emails promptly. I would recommend taking his class!
The content of the course is set by the department so I don't think he has a say in what assignments and exams to give us, but they are not too bad and he gives good feedback on them. He is a very nice and approachable professor, he responds quickly to emails, and seems to genuinely care about his students and their success.
He is very caring and understanding about anything you may have going on.
Nick is great! Very understanding and wants his students to succeed. I would expect to spend around 4 hours per day on content. He responds very quickly to emails and is a fair grader, but he does not post lecture material of his own (you must learn everything from the textbook or on your own). He does give super helpful exam study guides though!
The course itself sucks and is super fast-paced, but Nick is a fantastic instructor. He's a super easy grader and grades mainly on participation and effort rather than correctness. If you need to take physics, I would 100% recommend taking it with Nick.
This class was easy to follow along with and was well organized. The professor was super easy to reach which came in handy for an online course. Gave extra credit opportunties and made helpful study guides for the exams.
I had some issues with my health this semester and I emailed Dr. Valverde about it and he was extremely accommodating and caring! He also makes study guides and responds promptly. Definitely would recommend him.
Nick is one of the best and caring professors that I have had. Everything was well organized and easy to find on the D2L page, which is also super helpful. If you need help, he is very understanding and willing to help you in the way that is best for you. I definitely recommend him, especially for a challenging class like physics.
Nick is a great professor. I had him both in person for Physics 1 and online for Physics 2. In both courses, he is very accessible and approachable and tries his best to accommodate his students. He also makes study guides that are really helpful for the exams. Take physics with him if you can!
He's genuinely one of the kindest and most patient professors I've had. Physics is hard, but he explains things clearly and never makes you feel bad for asking questions. He's super understanding about how chaotic college can get and really wants his students to succeed. Truly a supportive and great teacher.
Learn by a textbook & apply it in labs, workshops, & homeworks. I am not fond of this structure but amount of work is more on the school's dept. than Nick so he does try to be more flexible if needed. I greatly appreciate the study guides Nick makes for exams! I'm taking this as a 7 week on top of a full uni schedule so lots of work but is doable.
Nick is a great professor! He's very responsible which is especially helpful in the online setting and he's just a genuinely nice person. Very lenient with grades/due dates. His extension policy is also very nice and he wants you succeed. I really enjoyed taking his physics 2 class online.
Great professor & very easy going. Just keep up with the class work and you can get an A.
Nick is very understanding and one of the best professors to take an online course with. As long as you keep up with the homework, labs, and workshops, you'll be fine. There are four tests, and one of them gets dropped, plus a final exam. Take the course with him and don't worry too much - he makes the material manageable and the course very fair.
This class is pretty much standardized by Pima, so there isn't much the professors can change, but Nick did as much as he could given the restraints. The homeworks, labs, and workshops are pretty much just participation as long as you follow the instructions. The exams are incredibly easy compared to the content in the textbook and have bonus qs.
Nick is a supportive instructor who genuinely wants his students to succeed. Most of the learning is independent, but if you're comfortable teaching yourself, the course is very manageable. He provides clear study guides that outline key concepts for exams and is flexible with extensions, which I appreciated.
Physics 122 is a hard class, but Nick does a great job at responding and helping when asked. I had emailed him about a homework question at 12:30 am and he responded within 5 minutes. He is kind, cares a lot, and wants his students to succeed. This class is very time consuming, but it was bearable with Nick.
Gives you everything you need to pass so if you fail low-key your fault. He's very heavy on the theory and understanding of the material so normally work mainly with just variables and units so besides the homework won't actually see a lot of numbers.
Nick Valverde is a great professor! He provides you with all necessary materials to succeed and more. He is also very accessible via email/D2L discussion boards, which was very important as I took his class online. Overall he is very caring and wants his students to succeed!
While Physics 122 is not an easy class, Nick made the class bearable. Its clear that he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He responds quickly and allows you to get the most out of the course with the restraints of the course. The tests have bonus questions and gives you everything to succeed on them.
Professor gives a lot of opportunity for credit outside of the exams and the exams are very reasonable as well.
He is a great communicator and a helpful teacher.
I wish I had taken Nick for PHY121. He is a very lenient grader, he responds to emails SUPER fast, and he's always been kind and understanding whenever I would reach out to him. The course material is pretty difficult, especially if you complete the class in 8 weeks, but he makes it so much more manageable with detailed study guides for exams.
He was very good at responding to emails and answering questions. This class is a lot of work but ultimately the prof does a good job of organizing it. He is very understanding.
Previously rated for this course
Nick made a tough 8 week course bearable. Expectations for the course are very clear, and he is easy to reach and good at communicating. He doesn't expect you to get a perfect answer every time, but is more concerned about you learning the material and explaining how you got your answer or why there might be errors. I highly recommend this prof.
Professor Valverde has been the best and caring professor I've had in a long time. It's very clear that he wants all of his students to succeed in his class and he puts so much effort into being a great professor. Tests were super straight forward and he was very clear on due dates for homework/labs. Best online class I've taken in a while!
Awesome instructor, responsive by email even late at night and it is clear he puts in effort to be there for his students despite the usual impartiality of the online format.
Professor Valverde is the best and most caring professor I've encountered in a long time. He genuinely wants all students to succeed in his class, replies to emails very quickly and is very clear about assignment/experiment deadlines. This is the best online course I've taken recently!
Makes physics easy to understand, everything is organized well. He grades on completion so it makes it easy to get a good grade as long as you study for the exams.
Professor Valverde is a really good professor and makes the classes enjoyable. Physics is a tough class but the professor makes sure to explain it well.
He is super nice and accommodating. It is a very fast-paced course, but it is easy to get an A as long as you complete all the assignments and study for the exams.
Professor Valverde is an excellent professor for an online class, much less a Physics one at that. He grades lenient but still holds you to good standards, as he expects the best in effort. While the class is itself difficult (it is an 8-week course), there are absolutely no issues from Professor Valverde. Put in time/effort, and you'll succeed.
Physics II with Nick turned this extremely demanding class into a much more manageable and less stressful environment. Nick seems aware of the demand of the course on students and makes the course fair for everyone. Overall one of the most knowledgeable and empathetic professors I have had.
Professor Valverde is an excellent physics teacher. He is easygoing and not a stickler for labs or hard-and-fast deadlines. Make no mistake, however, that his classes are not effortless; although his exams are fair, they can be challenging and require careful preparation.
Even though this is an accelerated 8-week course, the professor did everything he could to make it manageable. He was so incredibly helpful when I got very sick for week and showed that he truly cared about the success of his students. Even though physics itself is not easy, I am glad I was fortunate enough to have a great professor during it.
The course is extremely busy since it is 8 weeks online 4 credit, but Dr. Valverde makes your life so much easier by offsetting due dates for Masteringphysics and making detailed study guides for each test. He also gives a 2% extra credit. He is very caring about your success and is very helpful with questions! Very good and down to earth professor
He is very understanding when it comes to accommodating student needs, exams are generally doable if you put considerable amount of time studying. Given this class was a 7-week, he gives extensions and study guides before exams were immensely helpful, would highly recommend his class, especially if physics is something you fear taking in college.
He is very understanding when it comes to acommodating student needs, given this is a 7 week class, he gives extensions and study guides before exams are an excellent resource, his exams are doable, given you study for it , overall I would highly recommmend taking his class especially if physics is something you fear taking in college. ,
He was a great professor for this course. He is not a strict grader and allows extensions. Any questions I asked were answered same day. He also provides study guides for the exams which was very helpful.
The class was well structured, and the study guides were a great resource while studying for exams. I just wish there was some form of lecture content from him. Reading the book for 28 modules got exhausting and hard to clarify the confusing information.
I liked the class and how it was organized, especially the exam units. The only thing I would change is how the course is taught. Other resources outside of the textbook would be a nice addition.
Dr. Valverde is a great professor! He responds quick to emails, puts less pressure on grades for individual assignments, and tries his best to help his students. The way this course is taught is extremely difficult, but that is out of his control. For example, there is a module due almost every day, but he isn't the one that sets the due dates.
Professor Valverde really knows his stuff and is easy to talk to. He encourages questions and takes time to explain things. Most problems are worked implicitly in variable form, which is odd at first but helps with understanding. Occasionally, in-class lecture examples included mistakes, making it harder to follow the correct path to the solution.
Professor Valverde works with your needs throughout the semester and quick to respond to emails. The semester can feel dense with information given especially if physics is not your strongest subject. It's simply a matter of practice. Professor Valverde is not a harsh grader so simply practice and do well in the exams.
Bottom line is that I registered for the follow-on course with him as soon as I knew he'd be teaching it. Nick manages to challenge students to learn difficult material and support them through it (extremely responsive to email) without being a difficult grader. Tough combo sometimes. Use office hours if you need to; he'll help you through.
This was a shortened version of the course, so it was bound to be very content heavy. He is caring & is the first online professor I've had that has taken the time to make an intro video when the course first started, which I appreciated. Lots of reading, lots of homework, but very fairly graded unlike other physics professors I've had in the past.
This professor clearly cares about his student's success. He responds to emails quickly and I found his study guides to be super helpful in preparing for Exams. He's definitely the best Physics professor I have ever had!
Nick was very considerate and understanding of students' different life commitments and challenges. The course felt manageable if you stayed consistent with homework, labs, and practice problems, and the exams felt fair and easier when well prepared. Overall, the professor created a supportive learning environment that encouraged student success.
Dr. Valverde was a great communicator and understanding toward his students, especially since this was a fast-paced class. He grades fairly and looks for your ability to communicate how you got an answer more than it being completely perfect. The study guides are super relevant and helpful for the exams. Lots of assignments, so stay organized.
Make sure you show up to lectures because we go through a lot of new material during them. Also make sure you are confident in your algebra because that determine how hard this class is. Other than that, this is a very hard class to fail.
Physics 2 was much easier and smooth going compared to physics 1 for me thanks to professor Nick! From day one I could tell I would do well in his class, he showed that he cared about his students and he was very understanding. I contacted him twice via email and he got back to me very quickly. Definitely recommend!!
Professor Valverde was great! I took his PHY122 7-week course, he does 4 exams+final, he provided study guides for exams that were questions taken from the exams so if you studied them there was no way you wouldn't get 100's on the exams. He gives extra credit and drops your lowest exams/homeworks. It's an easy course and he's grest to work with.
while phys 2 is very difficult, the professor does what he could to make it manageable
Professor Valverde is one of the best professors I have had, especially for a hard course such as Physics 2. I have so much respect for the way he cares for his students and how he tries his best to make a difficult course more bearable. He is very easy to contact and is amazing at responding in a timely manner. Truly the best!
He truly cares about his student's and was always on top in answering emails with questions I would have regarding certain topics. I would take him again since I really enjoyed his teaching and how nice he is!
Dr. Valverde was a good professor who offered ample opportunities for students to be successful in this class. The workload is high due to the accelerated 7-week format, which is predetermined by Pima rather than the instructor. Dr. Valverde responds to emails promptly and is very willing to work with students to support their success.
This professor is attentive and explains the material very well. I rated this professor as difficult not because of the professor, but because the course itself is naturally difficult. Accelerated PHY122IN is fast paced and work heavy. He is amazing and very helpful, making this course much more approachable! I find I understand physics much better
Mr. Valverde is a great and charismatic professor who enjoys what he is doing and wants the best for his students. Very quick to respond if there are any questions you may have as well as having clear study guides for test's. A really great physics course to take.
Professor Nick is enthusiastic and genuinely cares about students' success. He is always willing to help. His lectures are collaborative. He explains key concepts, works through problems with the class, and encourages participation. Homework is manageable, and reading before class helps with understanding.
Nick is a great professor i strongly recommend him. This isn't an easy course so what ever you put into this class is what you will get out of it. Make sure you take the time that is needed for this class and take advantage of office hours. I would take Nicks class again for sure.
Nick provides you everything you will ever need regarding the class, constantly staying up to date with his schedule of work and giving you more than enough opportunities to better your understanding and grade towards the class.
Professor Nick Valverde is very personable and understanding. The class covers a lot of material in a short time, so there is quite a bit of homework, but he grades fairly and some assignments are for completion. Tests are short and mostly multiple choice. Overall a great class, even if not my favorite subject.
Nick is passionate about physics. Lectures can be very intense but just like any college course, it is your responsibility to review/study the material on your own time. He takes the time to create very thorough study guides which I greatly appreciate. No lab reports! Does his best to lead you in the right direction, lots of office hrs.
This professor is incredibly helpful as well as compassionate. He was very quick to respond to any questions about course material and understood any struggles students are having outside of the course. He made a difficult, online physics course as bearable as it could be. I would definitely choose him as my professor again.
Nick is an extremely understanding, flexible, caring, and accommodating professor. He responds to emails very promptly and provides great clarification if needed. He really understands students and treated the class with the upmost respect! I really couldn't recommend taking his courses more!
I would say he is pretty understanding, especially with the 8-week accelerated online. I find that his leniency on grading, and study guides are really helpful to passing the course. There is a lot of hw, but it creates a sort of cushion for the exams. It's doable but for sure a lot of work involved.
Professor Nick Valverde is a great physics teacher who truly cares about his students. He explains tough concepts clearly, communicates well, and always encourages questions. His supportive and approachable teaching style makes physics easier to understand and builds confidence in problem-solving.
Teaching style was inclusive. He was passionate about his craft and it showed. It just came down to self determination. He would try and keep us focused but for any human trying to learn a new subject for 2.5 hours straight (physics), it takes more then a constant in the class. I did find myself glazzing over from the focus of the new material.
He is very helpful and responds quickly
Very nice Professor! I really enjoyed taking this class given my tough schedule. If you work this class is so suitable! He responds super quick and is super great at feedback
