She gives very good feedback on essays. You have 4 essays and that is your grade. She can sometimes be confusing and you don't know what she is wanting from your work. Overall, I would recommend taking her class.
She makes getting up for an 8 a.m. class eventful and not-so-bad after all. Has high expectations and wanted every student to do well. Gives ample opportunities to get papers done. Liked that she let us share our perspectives mostly during discussions instead of dominating discussions. She's cool. Would mos def take her again.
This teacher is so sweet and makes going to class for three hours pretty entertaining. I don't feel like I have to drag myself to class every single time I go. She has entertaining discussions and is very understanding. Ask for help and she will help you to the best of her abilities. She does not expect everyone to be the best writer. Take Her!!!
Cosby was a great English teacher. You only have 4 essays & those are your major grades. She has many discussions & you should try to talk in those, even though I didn't & still got a good grade in the class. She does not expect much, she just wants to see that you're trying. Don't procrastinate on the essays cause the draft due dates come FAST!
She grades really hard. Her guidelines and expectations are never clear, and her teaching methods are simply poor. She teaches her class with entirely too much scrutiny as if everyone is an English Major.
She is a really nice person overall but she is very unclear with what she wants in her papers. If you ask her a question, she will talk around the question and never actually answer it. She will tell you that you have a rough draft due two days before it's due. She gave 4 essays total and a few group projects along with some really small grades.
This professor does not seem to understand how to effectively teach a college class. She takes this subject very seriously, which makes it hard in the student to do well on quizzes & other assignments. Her method for teaching is rather poor, since the lectures are based off of asking questions the whole time. Guidelines for assignments are unclear.
You have to read alot. She lets the students carry out some of the discussions, that's pretty neat if people are talking. Many of the readings are interesting. I just don't like to read all that much and talk in class at 9:30 in the morning. Take a later class if you don't like to talk early. She's cool though.
She's nice, but she's challenging. I agree with dude below. Lots of reading, but she explains pretty clearly what she expects. Be sure to take notes and read all details. People usually miss them. She worked with me on the first quiz and saved me from failing due to absences I didn't keep track of. Once you get to know her, she'll help you out.
She's great. She cares about students learning and helped me alot. Writing is not my strong suit, loI.I usually don't leave feedback but saw the comment below and I don't know what that's about. Anyway, if you can get into her class, I couldn't for English 1102, take her. I loved her style, so did many others. Go to class and seek out help.
Overall my experience with the class was good. She gives clear grading criteria and used D2L perfectly. At times she was a little confusing when it came to how exactly she wanted the essays done, but the rubrics helped. A majority of your grade will come from 4 essays, which she grades a bit firmly. If you put in the effort you'l get an A.
So friendly and helpful! wants to help you write your paper. Not a lot of homework but we still get a lot of small grades that help boost our grade.
This was the best English class I have ever had. She made me laugh and she helped students when they needed it. I liked how she let us talk "real" and explained what she expected in our writing. The smaller assignments helped so if you take her be sure to complete them and all papers or you won't pass. She means what she says, but I like clarity.
Do not take her if you want your semester to be organized. She is all over the place and even is late to almost every class. She will not tell you what she wants to see in your essay so its a big guessing game. She messed up my grades multiple times and I had to meet with her to fix them. If you do the work you will pass.
Cool class. Analysis paper was really challenging but you get to revise for a higher grade. She has high expectations but not unreachable. Stay on top of the schedule and ask questions. I made the mistake of waiting until now to seek help. I still hope to get an A or B.
If you need to take a hybrid, she's a good choice. You'll definitely have a weekly assignment outside of class but it's no big deal. Lets you revise all papers because she's tough on them the first time. She definitely cares and is accesible. I got by without reading much, lectures aren't really lectures they're just catch-ups. Not a bad choice.
Professor Davis-Cosby is pretty cool. Just follow her instructions and don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any and you'll do fine. She's super approachable!
She had 0 communication and was flat our horrible. I do not know how she is in a regular class setting, I had her hybrid class. She was awful and was not good and I can not even express my anger towards her or give enough warning. She is confusing when it comes to due dates and how she does things overall.
Pretty tough grader and isn't clear on what she wants to see for you to get an A on a paper. Bright side only 3 essays, normally a 3 page minimum.
I actually wrote her a good review a couple weeks back and now I'm rebutting it. Find another professor. Her grading is inconsistent, her directions aren't clear, she forgets to tell you things and expects them done anyway, and her classes are unproductive. Much better 1101 professors at KSU.
Yay! I passed. She's tough, but that makes me feel like a winner. I did good and my A shows for it. She puts good feedback in papers. That helped me alot. She's challenging, but I learned alot. Wish I could take her for 1102.
Reporting back from a later comment in November. Got my A! I worked hard for it. She made me work for it. She told me I could do it and I did.
I really enjoyed her class and can say that now that my grade is in and I can truly see what's to show for all the time and energy I put into the work. Don't be scared. I was scared to talk but I saw that she listened and didn't take no stuff so I warmed up to asking questions and talking. Pay close attention you might miss details.
Her class is cool. She's not THAT hard. People stressin' on GroupMe over stuff they didn't do or pay attention to. Follow her lead. Read what she gives you because if you don't you might miss out. Go to class. You will learn what to do and what not to quick. Not like high school. She taught me that and I appreciate it now. That helped me.
Okay, so I confess. I was really angry that she took off points for me not having met the 4th page length but I get it after emailing with her. 4 pages really wasn't nothing to write when I think about it, I could have done better. She holds you accountable and she doesn't deserve my finger point. And she's smart. You will learn writing and more.
Cosby's teaching style includes unclear deadlines, missed conferencing appointments (which she will not take responsibility for), and lack of care for her students. She is anything but helpful when it it comes to clarification stating "ask a peer". She has high expectations with little guidance; I would suggest taking another professor.
If you have to take a class that meets once a week, she is a good fit. The workload is not too much, four papers with one being a digital project and smaller assignments, nothing unusual. They feed into the big ones. Grab a buddy or someone to work with since it's a hybrid class. I recommend taking her. I will be taking her again.
For a two day a week class, it was good. The good thing, there were four papers, not too long and lots of talk about how to do the assignments and samples. If you struggle with missing details, find help and you will be okay. But there is a higher level expectation. She definitely cares and communicates through email alot.
The course isn't easy but it is challenging and requires higher, deeper thinking. She is direct at times but she's polite and Prof. Cosby means what she says. I was prepared for this. She really does care and is accessible.
Very personabel and smart. She's patient & waits to be sure everyone understands. 3 papers and a digital writing project and little assignments. I took her hybrid and it's tough getting all of what you need in one class. She's good though. Gives you enough and you do the rest outside the 1 class. 2 days a week class would be way better for me.
I HAVE MADE A MISTAKE TAKING THIS CLASS. I think she is the worst professor ever i am sitting in class regretting the moment i hit that register button. i feel like i'm losing my mind. Don't take her class.
DO NOT!!!!!!! take her class. she grades harshly, and doesn't not even answer your questions.
At first I wondered why I signed up for the hybrid class, but everything turned out better than I expected. Get to know her and show youre serious and go to her for help. I even started going to the writing center and revising my papers. It worked just like she said. Dont slack off but if you do just get back on track and ask for her help.
This has been the BEST English class Ive ever had. Shes my favorite instructor for many reasons but most of all she let us have a voice and participate in debates and discussions that required deep thinking. She made me work and she told me things my parents said years ago, except I listened to her. Be prepared to learn about writing and yourself
I find the class to be going well. Mrs. Cosby is funny and gives lots of information to help us be successful. Glad I chose this class.
She's a good teacher, Very funn,y passionate, and cares so much about you doing well. Only downside is she is a tough grader. She will make you work for an A.
She is so sweet, definitely one of the best professors Ive had. While there is work that has to be done, she is flexible with deadlines if you go and talk to her. She gives excellent feedback on papers and you can meet with her to get help if you are struggling in a certain area.
Good professor, I appreciate her. She can get off topic frequently during lecture, but overall is pretty on track. She is nice and understanding, but you must work with her. Class wasn't hard, just 3 papers, 2 projects, and 1 debate.
Love her as a person. Often times, she is unclear with what is expected, and does not give good feedback. Most of the feedback I received was "I don't understand". Made mostly A's on papers, however most of my peers struggled in the class. No Friday class is very INCONVENIENT because she posts assignments LATE but expects them done by class time!
A lot of papers. Not clear on grading.
This was the hardest but best class I've ever taken. We had 3 papers, a project and debate. Lots of smaller assignments just before the bigger assignments. We had a good class. I'll miss how we got to know each other.
Great teacher! Great class. Go to class.
Worst teacher at Kennesaw. She doesnt give good feedback, assignments are totally unclear, and it is so hard to communicate. She blocked all of my classes emails, she stressed me out and made me want to drop the class. Theres 3 essays and 1 project that make up 75% of your grade. Dont get the writers help its expensive, and is only 2 points.
She is a really genuine/caring teacher, but when she specifies a Monday-Wednesday-Friday class, she should adhere to that agenda. Giving Friday online assignments due by the end of class makes everything all the more confusing, and was overall the downfall of my grade
A great professor who cares about her students and wants you to succeed. you get in what you put out
My favorite professor! I cannot recommend her enough. She is so funny, kind, and caring. Her lectures are fun and interesting. We wrote 3 papers and did a group debate which was fun and challenging, did a lot of peer review as well. I was very pleased with her grading. Be prepared to work for your grade. She can tell who has put in the effort...
Professor Cosby may seem nice at first, but she is contradictory. She will say one thing in class and grade your paper in a different way. Get used to seeing 70s, she rarely gives out As. You go to her office hours and she just isn't there. If you want a decent grade pick someone else. She gives unspecific feedback and attendance is a must.
Grades as hard as she possibly can. I took her for Comp I, & enjoyed the class. As long as you put forth effort in what you wrote and showed initiative, you received at least a B. I decided to take her for Comp II, & what a mistake. Takes her class far too seriously; I wrote a well researched paper, followed guidelines & her corrections, received C
Grades very hard, if its not how she thinks it should be its wrong. Had for compI, enjoyed her thought I'd take her again for compII, huge mistake. Tons of papers, grades maliciously but provides chances to rewrite (which I took, and barely improved my grade despite following her suggestions). Do not take hybrid, gives busy work. Least fav teacher.
There were lots of work we did earlier on and I made decent grades so I'm not worried as we near the end. Get to know her and seek help. She will help you. Sometimes when you don't ask. She just finished helping me although we are all online. I really appreciate that about her. She aint easy. I'm not use to that. But she want you to learn. That too
Cosby's class is challenging. I struggled with reading. That's taught first in the class, then writing. I know now that I don't read at the level high school teachers made me believe I was so I'm not going to judge the course on that. I actually read alot and it helped. Be prepared to work! No tests. Just lots of reading/writinexercises & 4 papers.
she doesnt provide feedback that will help you and if she doesnt like what you write, shell fail you even if your work is good. super sweet professor but not helpful when it comes to reaching out for help.
The class was manageable. Writing assignments weren't super hard; but who likes to write so depending on your level of reading and writing skills, it can be. I took writing intensive courses in high school and appreciated knowing how to write the rhetorical analysis paper at least. She's helpful though if you reach out. Very professional. Like that
Not much work, 4 papers, smaller work. Lots of feedback. I got to choose my own topic. That was nice. Lots of smaller assignments. They'll helped to raise low paper scores though. Good class. Challenging. Teacher is professional. Laughs until there's work to do.
Whatever you do stay far far away from Dr. Davis-Cosby. This class is an absolute nightmare & the expectations are ridiculous. There are multiple assignments due every week and it's impossible to keep up with it all. She's unhelpful and doesn't want to answer questions or meet with you. Easily one of the worst lecturers at KSU.
She kept telling me to drop the class, and she was so rude when I asked for a revision that she failed me then and there. She just kept telling me to drop the class, even though I took screenshots of all the work I submitted.
Literally the worst professor I have ever taken. She was confusing, overwhelming, and downright rude. I asked for clarification on a paper and she basically told me to figure it out myself or fail and called me out in front of the whole class for not being able to figure it out. My major courses aren't half as hard as this gen ed. RUN AWAY FROM HER
THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER. I would rather take an extra year of classes than have to take her again. She was confusing, not helpful, and rude when asking for help or clarification. Will call you out if you question anything and ask for help. Our papers make no sense and she grades them horribly. I love English, and she has truly made me hate it.
I've always done really well in English classes, but not this one. I highly recommend that you do not take this Professor! She is rude, inconsistent, and unorganized. You can tell that she doesn't really read papers as she gives vague and incorrect feedback. She is not willing to work with you. If you can avoid her, take another Professor.
If you think your writing is good, that opinion will change after taking this professor.
I took her class for both Comp I and Comp II online. I was pleased with both. She gives really good feedback. Having a chance to rewrite papers was great. And her workshops were helpful before revising a paper the second time. Get real good with time management and planning your work. High school didn't prepare us like I thought it. I learned lots.
Terrible professor! Had no communication with students and did not even consider our questions.
Every email and assignment from her is riddled with typos and grammatical errors. From any professor, this would be unprofessional. From an English professor? Concerning. Took over a week to give feedback on a paper, instructed me to rewrite the paper, then signed off for the weekend, knowing I was confused about what needed fixing.
ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED MY GPA!!! Stay as far away from this professor as possible! She didn't like my topic after approving it to write all of my papers on it. Graded all of my papers extremely harsh and when I reached out for help she told me that I needed to figure it out on my own. I have never gotten a D in a class until this class. It was bad!
This was not as bad as I thought it would be Word of advice, try to take the time out and let her know that you're serious in the course. She's super nice and will try to help in anyway she can. Harsh grader though, sometimes her critiques are unclear, but just ask her to clarify and she will.
Not helpful at all, email responses are slow like weeks slow, if you have her as an option please go the other way
Emailed me to say I had to redo a paper because I didn't include the necessary material. I emailed back with examples from my paper showing that I did include these materials. She replied "Yikes! I don't need to hear you defend your paper. Just fix it." I barely changed it and got a 93%. Don't think she even read the entire paper the first time.
She is turn a 2 second answer into a 15 minute speech about absolutely nothing important, if you want a straight answer ask someone else in the class. 3 main papers each worth 25% then 25% goes to attendance/classwork assignments, her class isn't super hard but she is just super annoying.
How I would explain her is she takes a 3 word answer and makes it into a 15 minute speech. I didn't love her class but I liked the grading style - There were 3 papers - all worth 25% then the other 25% was classwork stuff. Shes an ok grader and you can resubmit 2 of the papers. If u dont understand her instructions good luck, she isnt helpful.
Absolutely stay away
I was a little scared of her initially, but she ended up being very friendly. But she is a rigorous professor and sticks to the syllabus, so make sure you turn everything in on time!
Worst Professor Ever. At the end of the semester she did not look at my revision and I emailed her about it, she said to resubmit and she hasnt even open the drop box, I emailed three times and she still havent looked at it and gave me 0 for it. I enjoyed English before choosing her class but now I dont because of her. Literally AVOID
Very unprofessional, she will not accommodate with you . When it came around the end of the semester she messed up my grade and never put in my Essay for a grade.
possibly one of the worst teachers ive ever had. She wont email you or help you if it isnt in class. She grades extremely harshly, and overall doesnt care about the students
shes incredibly inflexible, and doesnt respond to emails
Personally not a fan. Struggled immensely
Professor Cosby is the worst English professor I've ever had. She barely responds to emails and when she does, it is passive-aggressive in tone and incredibly unhelpful. If you have a question all she says is "go to the writing center." She spends too long doing menial classwork and then gives you barely anytime to write the final essay. STAY AWAY!
I would never recommend having this teacher! she has been the only one that I have had trouble with. When she answers email, she beats around the bush & not straight to the point. All of these "awful" reviews are true. if I would have seen this website beforehand, I would have ran and never looked back. She is terrible with feedback!!!!!!
this teacher sounds like a robot that only knows high vocabulary when she speaks. she takes the most simple explanations and make them into essays with the way she describes things. don't get me started on attendances. she takes them so literal and at the end its a % that goes with your total grade. worst teacher !
the red flag for me should have been the amount of ppl I saw who had to retake her class. Shocking that she saw nothing wrong with that. she grades horribly & even tries to change/evaluate your own opinion about things. she always wants to be so " woke" when having class convos and everyone is literally tired of her bc we give her the best we have.
Worst professor I have ever had. Never responds to emails and is rude. Wish I had seen these ratings before I chose this class. pick literally any other professor
cannot say any good things about this professor, good riddance engl1102
Literally the worst teacher I've ever had at any level. Very late email responses, very workload heavy, instructions are very unclear and will rely on you to read her mind. Very harsh grader, and gives awful, unhelpful feedback. There's so many things I wish I could say on here, but I don't have enough character space, and I'll get reported. -1/10.
There are some people who should not go into the teaching profession. Cosby is one of them. Worst professor I have ever had, meaningless discussions and waits until FOUR HOURS until final grades are due to ask students if they have any questions about there final grades. Lazy, rude, and needs to find a new job! Thanks Prof. Cosby!
As someone who usually does well in comp. classes, I took this class thinking that I would be okay despite her poor ratings. I was wrong. Prof. Cosby is one of the worst professors for a beginner English class. Do not bother emailing her for help, and unless you can read her mind for what she expects for assignments, do not expect a good grade.
Doesn't actually read the papers before grading them. Told me she didn't realize my paper was about a song from a movie. My opening sentence was literally "The opening song of this movie is..." Told me I didn't include the necessary requirements. Ignored me when I told her I did include them. I changed two sentences in the paper and got a 95%.
Stay. Away. Do not bother asking for help, she will send you to the writing center. Gives late and VERY vague feedbacks. Avoid at all costs. Very unorganized and I never knew what she expected in each assignment. Very unclear instructions. I had to change topics more than 5 times! Tough grader. You either get 100, 50, or 0. Again, STAY AWAY!
I didn't do terribly in this class. However, I was really stressed. The instructions she gives for her assignments are vague and confusing. She spreads her expectations across 3 documents. She is a really tough grader. She gave a lot of false feedback, and it seemed she didn't even read my paper. I definitely wouldn't recommend this prof. :(
Stay away! You will either get a 0, 50, or 100 on your work. Her whole class converges to a single paper that you build on across the semester. Some crucial details to get a good grade on the paper were either too vague to understand or flat out excluded from some assignments. You WILL pull all nighters and WILL stress over this meaningless class
Literally the most unprofessional and useless professor I have ever had at KSU. Don't even bother asking questions because all she says is to go to the writing center instead of doing her actual job. Take any other professor!
Extremely hard grader for no reason
worst prof ever. unhelpful and spends most class time talking about random topics. she spent the entire semester talking about our final paper and then barely gave us any time to ACTUALLY DO IT! and told us not to email her during the week it was due because she was already being flooded with emails due to it being the end of the semester. RUN!
Probably the worst experience I've had with a KSU professor. Every professor I've had until now was just pretty great. I really don't know how her grading system doesn't raise eyebrows. Emailing her is NOT worth it; her replies are not helpful. All she'll say is "refer to the syllabus" when you ask a question about the syllabus. Seriously.
She was definitely a nice teacher and very approachable. Very unclear about the expectations she has in place for her assignments and very frequently had issues with trying to understand what she wanted. I was stressed for this entire course and eventually had to withdraw because of stress.
Professor Davis-Cosby is a sweet lady and I enjoyed her class for the most part, but she is an extremely hard grader. Instructions are extremely detailed but vague at the same time, and very few items count towards your grade so each assignment weighs heavily. I would not recommend taking this class if you care about your GPA.
Meant to put 5.0 difficulty in the last review. She is a sweet, kind woman but she is an extremely hard grader. Instructions are extremely detailed but vague at the same time, and very few items count towards your grade so each assignment weighs heavily. I would not recommend taking this class if you care about your GPA.
Whatever you do not take this professor for ENG1102. The majority of the grade is on three papers. The professor never answers emails, is rude, and takes over a month to grade assignments but won't give you a one-day extension. Her grading is extremely harsh, and she will refuse to give you feedback. Take any other professor if you want to pass.
Do not take this professor for ENGL1102. The whole class is based on 3 papers (30%, 30%, 15%, of the grade respectively). The rubrics are very vague and do not help you write these papers at all. You are given chances to revise, BUT her form of advice/comments on your paper are the boxes checked on the rubric. No helpful feedback. Avoid her class.
I would not recommend her as a professor. She was a very harsh grader and gave out a ridiculous amount of writing for us to do. I honestly have no clue how I did so well compared to other students in my class. She is very nice person and approachable, just not a good professor.
if you want to save your sanity and mental health, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. granted, she is a sweet lady BUT, she is the toughest grader + she is very strict on all her assignments. ALSO, she lost my assignment and almost failed me as SHE was the negligent one who opened multiple drop boxes for the same assignment and claimed she couldn't find mine?!
had to leave another review for how bad she is. she won't respond to emails, she barely grades her assignment, she doesn't give quality feedback but won't give you an extension on anything. THE WORST professor. DO NOT TAKE HER, SAVE YOURSELF
I would not recommend taking this class! I cried every day and eventually withdrew, best decision I ever made. I had an anxiety attack the day an assignment was due and I couldn't physically do it, but I managed to finish and turn it in 30 minutes late. After explaining this to Cosby, she still said it was a 0 and wouldn't even accept a late grade.
Mrs. Cosby was not very helpful in class and graded extremely strictly with no clear basis. She will use whatever she can against you when grading and is not very accessible.
I hate to be rash, but this is truly one of the worst professors I have had to date at KSU. While she is a very nice lady and creates a nice classroom setting, her grading struc
I wouldn't recommend taking her, but she's not THAT bad. Sometimes class is only 5 min, but then sometimes she goes way over the time. She is very understanding, I must say, and a nice woman. There is a lot of writing but little reading. She does grade harshly, but it's nothing insane. I would just say she is an average professor.
I took her 1101 course a few semesters ago! I still think about how strict she was with grading. She's nice-nasty. I had already had to repeat this course! & ended up with a C I didn't deserve! I hope eventually Professor Cosby changes, because from what I see she's yet to shift her ways. The ratings don't lie. DO BETTER!
Reviews are not lying! Prof Davis pretends to be caring. But she isnt.TOUGH GRADER even if you follow rubric. MANDATORY ATTENDANCE, rarely teaches. GRADES OFF OF ONLY 3 PAPERS worth your whole grade.WILL cancel classes that are important, then give you less time to do the paper. She falls behind, so the class does too. Take someone else if you can.
Basically 3 papers make up your entire grade, that's standard for college classes but can be difficult for first year students. The pacing of the class is very odd, with multiple weeks for 1/2 drafts or outlines and then only 1 week for finished papers. She's def a tough grader and gives non detailed feedback, but just follow the exp. papers.
I never want to write again. Any review above a 3 is ai and just might be the devil herself. I have never had more hatred in my heart for a class than this one.
she was very nice, but the structure of the class is impossible. 3 assignments make up 75% of your grade, though she sometimes offered opportunities for resubmission if you got a bad grade. i would not recommend taking her if you're not good at writing.
