Super smart and really knows alot about his subject. Sometimes goes off on tangents during his lecuters and leaves people hanging. Study the notes and you should do well on the tests. I highly recommend him.
This class was awesome- a ton of interesting information- his papers aren't too bad- make sure you study a lot for the tests
Very intelligent teacher. Can probably tell you anything you want to know about the bible. Very enthusiastic about what he does. Makes you do a lot of critical thinking on papers but tests are pretty easy if you just study the notes.
I want to be a THL major b/c of him....what a stud!!!
I hate this class. he is too excited about the Bible, rambles on, and expects everyone to know what he is talking about. talks too fast to take notes and the material on the test is all new to me, never heard it before. papers suck
Tests are multiple choice with a few short answer. If you go to lecture, tests are easy.
Great teacher. Definately passionate about theology. Answers all questions. If you go to class tests are easy. Interesting lecture
Whoever posted on 4/6/04 with straight 1's is obviously just stupid. Dr. Roddy is extremely well-versed in everything theological, and he is so passionate about all of his courses. He is also willing to stay past office hours to help his students.
The Blast Class -->3 days a week of Old Testament is not enough.. this passionate and motivated teacher (+humorous) will rock your BC world with ancient Israel/Bible stories soooo jucy that you think you are reading MAXIM X20! Thought you knew the OT? Now know it for life, and enjoy youride-5starz!
Best Class At CU!!! Awesome prof.!!!

I loved Dr. Roddy's Reading the Old Testament. Definately one of the best classes I've taken since I've been at Creighton. He's interested and loves what he is teaching and you can tell. He makes you think critically about the Bible.
Appears to be more interested in the "writers" than in the actual possible symbolism of the Old Testament. When he is actually dealing with the symbolism he treats it as a decoding exercise.
Dr. Roddy is a great teacher. He is very passionate about the subject matter. I think that everyone should take his Old Testament class. It is one of the best classes (if not THE best) I have ever taken.
Awesome teacher! Very interesting lectures and actually makes you want to study for tests. Class changes your perception of life for the better.
his class was not in the least bit easy. wouldnt recommend if you want an easy A. he tended to go over my head a lot as well as the other people in the class too. he is very helpful if you are struggling and makes you look at the OT in a whole new way
AWESOME PROF!!!! I learned so much. Those who complain simply failed to study...or studied ONLY the old tests and were shocked on test day...
Yes, he's very interested in the writers. But it's justified in that he's looking for what the writers (humans) were trying to convey. Isn't that what and excercise in reading should be?
Horrible class. He lectures on random aspects of the Bible until you leave class wondering why the h*** anyone would believe a word in the Bible. His tests are hard and detailed. I USED to be a straight-A student. Also, has an effed up grading scale - 92=B. If you're just trying to fill the core, don't take. He thinks we all want to be there.
A few complaints -Frequently comes across as a slick youth pastor trying to jazz up the old testament -Boring material made worse by his insistence that this is a significant part of the CU education -Confusing grader with a proclivity for asking ambiguous multiple choice questions and emphasizing material on exams that was not thoroughly discus
Dr. Roddy isn't the easiest grader, but if you try and understand the material you will be fine. I was not excited about taking this class, but ended up really liking it.
This class is very challenging, but it is meant to be. Dr. Roddy is an excellent teacher. Although grading is tough, he is very fair.
This class was very challenging. Dr. Roddy knows his stuff, but he is hard to follow and intimadating to talk to. The tests are somewhat tricky, but he is a pretty fair grader. He tries his best to accommodate to each class.
He is not necessarily a bad teacher but, the material sucks and it's not clear. I think he would make a better science teacher or something. His study guides are vague and don't help: if your going to make half the final about sects, then tell us that sects is something that is important to know rather than do a quick runthrough and call it good.
This really not too bad of a class. Just read most of the passages he assigns and in the first half of the semester do well on the few written assignments. Discussions in class will make it better. You will need to take good notes and study them(night before is fine),he will test over people's names that don't seem important.
Class is made to keep you focused. Daily papers and readings keep you on top of the game! Study guide is general but helps. Has a great motive for the class as a whole. Failure is not an option.
Interesting lecturer, but can be unclear..don't need to read first quarter, gives study guides before tests, papers are 1-2 pages max, and mostly graded for completion, can study for tests the night before and do fine...92+ for an A
He really wants his students to do well. He makes himself availible for questions; even really late the night before a test. His tests use different types of questioning to allow all types of learners to score well. Portfolio was easy to keep up with and he gave a couple days warning as to when he would collect them. Interesting lectures.
Very interesting teacher who will change your perspective on the bible forever.
Intelligent and engaging. A fantastic course; brings the text to life by looking into the historical setting. Probably one of the best professors that I've had at Creighton.
Fantastic professor who cares deeply about his students. Never turns you away when you need help.
He's absolutely awesome! Great teacher who knows his stuff, cares about his students, and makes it interesting. Definitely the OT class to take!
There are a few things one must do if attending creighton university, taking this class is one of those things!!! Excellent teacher, interesting material, very caring person! favorite class so far!
Very interesting and neat professor! He provides a very interesting perspective and lectures are actually meaningful. He knows his theology and the Bible really really well! All you have is a MIdterm and Final, 2 papers, occational quizes...keep up with the reading theres not that much. Old Testament is a must! So definetly take this class!
One of the most caring, considerate profs at Creighton. Knows his stuff and genuinely cares about students understanding the material (not just regurgitating it on exams). As a theologian who's not a big fan of biblical theology, I learned a lot from him and would recommend this class to anyone. Great way to fulfill a requirement.
very nice guy...super intelligent when it comes to matters of theology. relates material to life lessons...makes the material come to life.
GREAT TEACHER!! he loves to have fun w/ the class, ex: we watched the simpson's genesis episode the first day. he really loves what he teaches & he's extremely knowledgeable. i enjoyed coming to class. take him for sure! have 4 chances to write an A paper, if you get A on 1st, you're done! provides studyguide for test, bit of reading, but worth it!
Nicolae is a wonderful man and true friend. He is always willing to help you understand what he teaches in class which WILL relate to our lives. Old Testament is amazing!
He is a good teacher. He is really into the subject, but sometimes goes off on rants, which confused me. Make sure to take good notes in the class because almost all of the test was based off the test. He is a good professor and I learned a lot in the class.
One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Interesting lectures and easy tests. Very fair grader as well
He's a very nice guy and the class isn't too hard. He keeps a very unbiased outlook and respectful attitude toward all different religions.
His passion for his subject is so empowering that it intrigued me as a student. Although his lectures sometimes got a bit tiring, I was usually glued to him. He is an amazing teacher - so knowledgeable and culturally experienced. Taking notes in that class is imperative, but he expects you to read the chapter as well. I'm going take him again!
Very intelligent & passionate professor. Do the reading, bc some stuff on test is never brought up in class. Study guide ?s not necessarily indicative of what will be on test. Last 1/2 of semester devoted to group presentations about at least 2 religious traditions attended other than your own. Very understanding & fair, wants students to succeed.
Professor Roddy is the teacher you want to take for theology. He doesn't just lecture all the time and tries to get the class involved as much as possible. Tests aren't too bad, and he doesn't grade too hard on essays.
The single greatest professor I have ever had the chance to take. Take him for any class. He is the best.
Dr.Roddy is a very competent teacher, his exams are difficult, and his "study guides" are less than desirable, but overall what is on the tests is covered in class is on the exams.Basically if you go to class, and take notes, and study those notes, you will do well on the test. Ignore the "yahoo" who said otherwise. Heres your pepper Dr. Roddy, enjo
Dr. Roddy is the greatest teacher you could ever ask for! He explains things very clearly and his interest and enthusiasm for his subject make going to class easy. I had an early morning class with him and not once did I have a problem getting motivated to go. His tests are not difficult if you pay attention in class and do the readings. Great Man!
Nice guy and the class was good. I would recommend.
A great guy. Very enthusiastic and engaging. I really am not that interested in theology but his teaching style makes class interesting. Tests are kind of hard but if you do the reading and come to class you'll be fine.
Great teacher, very helpful. I had some trouble with his tests (they were pretty hard), but he explained my mistakes in great detail. Love this teacher, would recommend to anyone!
His papers are totally cake, but you have to really know your stuff for the exams. His "study guides" are not very helpful, but if he learns your name, you can expect a good grade for the class.
The class demands a lot of time and can be difficult, but Dr. Roddy really knows his stuff. When it comes to his field of study, he is on top of his game. The tests can be difficult, but he is always willing to go over them with you if you don't understand something. Overall, he's a stand-up guy!
RODDY=SWEET. He's the man. He really knows that he's talking about, and his tests are short and to-the-point, sometimes tricky, but pretty easy to manage. Fun to talk/listen to. Papers are easy. Easy class if you do what you're supposed to, he doesn't try to trick you.
Incredible teacher and scholar, always kind, respectful and fair! You can't miss his classes!
Great class. Take him if you get the chance. The tests and papers are not that hard if you study a bit and keep up with the work. Very excitable and knows his stuff exteremly well. He is truly an expert in his subject and listening to him speak is like hearing it from God's voice himself.
Tricky tests that require alot of studying, especially names and places. Lectures can get boring but occassionally makes them funny. Has been strict about attendance this semester compared to others. Has good points though and an interesting approach due to his experience with archeology.
Lectures are pointless, I hated the class. That being said Dr. Roddy did his best to help the class accomplish the goals and my dislike of the class is in no way representative of his teaching ability. If you are super into that whole Jesus business take him and enjoy.
Tries to make the class harder to give you a B. His lectures boil down to rambling for an hour and if he didn't give us signposts near the end of each section I wouldn't know what the point was. 2 tests, 1 5-page paper, and 1 15-page paper. Just make sure he likes you I guess. Its just mainly history, know the facts.
His lectures were usually unstructured and unhelpful. He seems to change his policies a lot, and he has clear favorites. His best aspect is the time help he offers out of class. However, his spiteful and retaliatory emails to the previous comments show just how immature and unprofessional he is. Dont take him for honors classes
I thought the papers were difficult for this class but the tests were very easy. Pay attention and you will get a good grade. Also the final is simple so don't stress.
Dr. Roddy is very passionate about theology. He lectures the entire period, but he's pretty interesting. I did dose off a few times though. He's a good teacher and his class is pretty easy if you take it seriously and study. The readings aren't necessary because he goes over everything in class. He went out of his way to help us study and do well.
Definitely knows his stuff, but I still wouldnt take him. Projects/Papers are difficult and he gives little guidelines. For tests and papers does not express expectation until a day or two before it it due. I'm a good student and I find this class hard. Do not take him if you like teachers that are organized.
Roddy is a wonderful teacher and very knowledgeable about the field. Prior to his class I had little interest about the subject, but Roddy makes class interesting by making you think beyond the literal meaning of the scripture. You will have 2 tests and 2 papers, but neither are very difficult as long as you pay attention and put in the effort.
A very knowledgable and helpful professor. His lecture can be a bit confusing at times, but that's just the nature of a theology course. Roddy definitely respects his students and wants them to succeed; you can tell he really cares what his students think of him. Be prepared to think critically, but know that he is ALWAYS receptive to questions.
He is crazy hard to understand and rants during his lectures. Boo his class and don't take him because it is way hard and stupid.
People think he is hard to understand, but really all you have to do is take VERY good notes during class. He doesn't test you on anything he hasn't talk about in class. SO GO TO CLASS and you will be more than fine.
Good teacher, enthusiastic, wants students to do good. Unfortunately coming from a public school the tests were difficult, although he did give study guides which made it easier. Must read to do well.
Very excited about what he's teaching. Provides an interesting perspective on the Catholic church, being Eastern orthodox. Definately recommended.
Roddy is a great guy, treats everyone with respect and wants everyone to do well. A couple short writing assignments that are nothing too bad and some mediocre exams. Take his class
Class is difficult but very interesting. First part of semester it is busy and then slows down. His tests are difficult but study the terms at the end of each chapter and that helps a lot. A study group also helps. Not impossible to get an A but only 3 tests that are 75% of grade. Recommend taking him.
I only had him for an RSP class but I would not recommend him. He made RSP hard. RSP! He's not very approachable and was way to deep in class. I would never take him for a Philosophy class.
expects his students to be aware and held accountable for everything he lectures about. Do the reading or he will get mad in lecture if no one is participating. tests are very unpredictable, sometimes covering the topics not emphasized in lecture = tricky. very intelligent man though, really knows what he is talking about. appreciative of 1-1 time
Roddy is a great guy! He really appreciates student that ask and work hard. He is crystal clear, and I have sent him so many emails this semester, he always seem open to receiving emails and replying promptly. TAKE HIM, you won't regret!
The most strenuous online course I have ever taken. Each week includes writing 5, 1-2 page papers, a quiz, and a discussion post on top of the required readings for that week. However, Dr. Roddy was very helpful and timely when emailed. The course was definitely a lot of work but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it during the school year.
He lectures at you the whole time during class and he's just not that great of a teacher.
great guy. pay attention in class and you'll be fine. He truly wants his students to do well.
If you miss a class you need to get notes from a classmate! You can read as much as you want but the tests are based on whatever was discussed in class! Small details like dates and such don't matter, but names do! lectures run a little long but are usually interesting and he often lets you out a little early. Really a nice guy!
Dr. Roddy is a great lecturer, he really knows what he's talking about, and I really enjoyed them despite the fact that they are long. He also gives few tests that cover a lot of material, however, if you pay attention, take notes, and do the readings it's fine.
Roddy is a good professor and really knows what he's talking about. His class, however, is not an easy A. He will have very few grades in the grade book, and on the test a few random questions will come up that were barely covered in lecture. His lectures are interesting though. Work hard and you'll get B, B+, or possibly an A.
The class was ridiculous. There were 4 papers, a quiz, and a post due every week. The lectures, if there was one, were drawn out because he rambled and talked in circles, not even explaining the main point. The quizzes drew from material not in the lectures or the assigned reading. He assumed we knew a lot about the OT.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE IS NOT CLEAR IN HIS LECTURES, AND HIS TESTS ARE NOT OVER THE MATERIAL IN CLASS!! REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Very critical of written assignments that have relatively nothing to do with the material you learn from his lectures. He gives insightful and interesting lectures, but the exams cover items that were only briefly mentioned in class. Very hard to get the grade that you work so hard to achieve.
GREAT TEACHER! I absolutely loved Dr. Roddy and would take him again if given the chance. All you have to do is pay attention in class and be able to grasp the big concepts and you will get an A. He really cares about your success and is one of the best teachers here at Creighton.
DO NOT TAKE. He never prepared for class at all and made us just get in groups and talk about stuff we have already read. This class was repetitive and nonsensical. He assigns 1-2 page "Easy" essays on things we haven't learneddiscussed and grades them very hard. I got 3 points off a 20 point essay for misplacing 2 commas. Tests on nonsense. NO
Roddy is a lecturer (with slides and occasional videos)- so he may not be for everyone- however, because of how passionate he was about the subject it was easy for me personally to get into his lectures. There were sometimes group discussions and four essays and three tests. Great guy who is easy to talk to if you struggle. Taking him again.
He is a great guy and to me, never came off as demeaning (his 'inappropriate comments' are said in good humor or in reference to what we are learning *spoiler: the bible's full of sex). Very tough grader but if you get your footing you can get a B or A consistently. Very liberal but has only discussed this briefly once or twice- it's his opinion.
Demeaning. Offers help but doesn't take it seriously when you come in for office hours. Either very well liked or not respected at all by students. Comments on assignments are rude and unnecessary. Would never ever take again. Acts high and mighty
Dr. Roddy is not a good teacher by any standards. While his lectures can be interesting, he has a superiority complex that he expresses frequently. At least once a week he speaks to a student in front of the class in a condescending manner. His grading on assignments is as arbitrary as it gets. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!
So, here's the thing. The man is obviously very smart in what he knows, however as a result of this he knows what he deems important for you to write about. Despite the fact that you will being doing historical readings it is his interp. of important details or you're a student showing "lack of academic discipline and effort."
He definitely challenges you to work harder and smarter. I struggled with some of the concepts but did pretty well in the course. If you put in the time and work the class is not to bad. But you have to be dedicated and willing to work very hard. I learned a lot from this class.
Roddy gives condescending feedback and makes this class way harder than it needs to be. Definitely take a different professor. You can easily learn the skills Roddy tries to teach his students from other professors. Roddy just insults your work and makes it so you hate coming to his class.
Great teacher, clearly brilliant and knows what he's doing. Definitely cares for his students, and is willing to give honest feedback. He can feel demanding, but it's for the right reasons.
The man changed my life. The class will make you a more analytical person and constantly question the legitimacy of any writing (in a good way, though). His class truly makes you see the world in a different light. This class is NOT an easy A, but by all means is it one of the best classes I've ever taken at Creighton.
Dr. Roddy single handedly made me turned off to reading the Bible. He is extremely inconsistent with his grading on essays and it leaves you struggling to get above a C or B in that portion, which are the only grades other than exams. Would never take him again.
Roddy is a great guy, and some of the lectures are interesting, but there is a big difference between lectures and tests. You will write 4 papers that are about 1.5 pages each, but he grades them extremely hard. If you go in to seem he, can be helpful w/ papers. The tests are what get you. He gives you lots of readings and tests on minor details.
His tests are way to hard. Even the theology majors in my class complaing. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WHAT SO EVER. He tests on the most miniscule topics, while he lectures on the broad topics. He claims all he wants you to learn is to read critically, but he doesn't test on that. I had an B+ going into the final, hopefully Ill get a C in the class.
I took this course online over the summer. I withdrew from the course in the first week. He required 3 essays per week for the four week course along with addiscussion post. He graded papers super difficulty, and when asked for help was completely unhelpful. He does to care if you do well, and he wants you to think just like he does.
I took Dr. Roddy's class during a very difficult time in my life. Not only did he help me understand the class material, he also took the time to talk with me and help me with my situation. While his first assignment may catch some people off-guard, as it did me, I highly encourage students to stick with the class. You'll learn more than expected.
There is a lot of reading to be done in this class&he lectures over the readings the next day in class. The lectures feel very long can be hard to pay attention. It is frustrating because this is the class I had to put the most work in for and it was still my lowest grade. I feel like I did not get the grade deserved for the amount of work I did
Dr. Roddy is AWESOME! I left every single class having my mind blown by what I learned. I knew nothing about the OT before this class but left feeling like I knew how to read between the lines! He has small assignments as a grade cushion, tests are very simple if you pay attention and take good notes. He does what he can to help you learn!
Dr Roddy gets a bad rep but he is INCREDIBLE! He really cares about his students and you will do FINE if you come to class and take good notes. He is not unfair, he genuinely wants you to improve. Super passionate and charismatic. Don't be scared of him on the first class. If he knows you're trying you will do great. Accessible, honest, woke.
Requires a ton of reading and his lectures are really heavy and not posted online so you have to show up or have no chance of passing. Otherwise he is a great guy and genuinely cares about students learning and he doesn't want to fail anyone. He'll help out wherever he can.
Professor Roddy is very passionate about the old testament, but he expects you to be too. Be prepared he yells in class and makes you feel stupid if you answer a question wrong. The tests are more difficult then you would think, and he grades the two essays very tough with no rubric or guidelines for the essay.
Nicolae Roddy. A man of mystery. A man of grace. He's a paradox; A simple man, yet impossibly complex; unforgiving, yet merciful; stone cold, yet warm-hearted. I'm just kidding. Roddy is a bit odd, and I thought it was a pretty hard class, even with a pretty sound theology education in my upbringing. You'll probably get a B, but an A is achievable.
These lectures are so incredible. Roddy always challenges our class to think differently, and opens our eyes. Despite my little interest going into the class, and hesitation from the rate my professor grades, I would not trade this class for any other. I highly recommend taking Roddy if you can!
Try and avoid him as a professor at all costs. Goes off topic too often. He is not accessible outside of class. Does not care how his class does. If you come up with a worry about his class, he blames you instead of understanding. He made my life a living hell for the semester on a personal and academic level. He doesn't have respect for students.
Roddys class is a great environment for developing critical thinking skills! He is passionate about what he teaches, and he encourages lots of thought-provoking discussions. He expects you to write at a college level and he wants you to succeed, so if you dont come into class with those skills he provides lots of useful feedback to help you.
While taking mandatory Theology classes might not be everyone's slice of cake, Professor Roddy really makes it worthwhile. Where as many typical theology classes deal with reading the bible in a bland way, Dr. Roddy's class really expounds on the history and ideas which made the Bible, an excellent history class and an excellent teacher. Take it.
Good professor who is easy to talk to for questions and clarification. Material can be boring at times but makes you think from a different view. Tests are relatively easy and papers can be hard due to the material.
He is a little odd, but what can you expect from someone whose dedicated their life to the old testament. He seems to expect you to be an expert on all this material already and grades as if you are. Does not really tell you how to improve, but tells you what you did wrong. Definitely makes you work hard, not the best professor but not the worst

Does not really tell you how to improve, but tells you what you did wrong. Definitely makes you work hard, not the best professor but not the worst.
Dr. Roddy gives very interesting lectures and be sure to pay attention and take notes. He is flexible if you have conflicts, just reach out in advance! The material is not "more" difficult, but his feedback on writing is often critical with no suggestions on how to improve/what was done correctly.
Dr. Roddy is very caring toward his students. He consistently tries to cater the class to their benefit. However by the broad nature of the topic, it was easy to get lost in lectures. Students need to know how to distinguish important details from unimportant ones, but he is always willing to recap in office hours which helps.
One of the greatest courses at Creighton. Even though it was tough to adapt to the covid class environment, he was constantly a human resource for students in and outside of the class. If you having a willingness to learn and try in the class, you'll love it. Every peer I know that did this, regardless of the grade they got, loved the class
Dr. Roddy is very lecture-heavy so make sure to take good notes or even record the lectures if you can. He is quite flexible and accommodating as long you contact him ahead of time. However, his grading is very unclear and often seems arbitrary. His feedback is mostly negative which can be defeating.
Im about one month in now. No tests or quizzes yet, but he hinted at a pop quiz. Reading isnt too bad and he makes essays (homework really) pretty easy. Honestly the funniest professor Ive ever met. Hes got that dad humor that puts a smile on your face. He doesnt allow laptops so prepare to take paper notes.
He mostly focuses on Old Testament and theology, but he doesn't teach it like THL 110. He let us choose what we wanted for our final: an original research paper, presentation, or 4 smaller essays. When he grades he doesn't suggest areas of improvement, only areas of critiques, but they are good critiques as long as you know where to go with it.
Really nice guy who is the pinnacle of dad jokes. His class is basically divided into 4 tests and 4 essays. Essays worth 20pts and tests are 100pts, total of 500ish points. Get one bad test grade and you are looking at a B+ at most for the semester. His tests aren't overly hard, but they are single page so each question is worth a lot of points.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! seriously if there are no other open sections, just wait a semester or take it over the summer. Hardest class I have taken yet, and if you are not already a scholar on the Old Testament, then good luck. He only gives 4 exams and 4 papers, and if you are a bad test taker then you're guaranteed a C. It is ridiculous.
When the class started, he wasnt even finished organizing it. He was editing it and changing it AS we went through the class; super unprofessional. If you arent an expert on the Old Testament, then prepare to work for your grade. I tend to work long and hard on assignments, and he still thought I was falling short. Little room for mistakes.
When I first began this online course, I was pleased with how well it was going, but that took a quick turn. Dr. Roddy's online course consists of 8 assignments and 2 exams. Feedback is overall confusing. Little room for error, and if you don't write pages of material, he will score you lower (from personal experience).
I honestly have never disliked a class more. I think Roddy is a good person, but as professorship goes he's constantly inputing his religious values onto the class, even though he claims he doesn't do that. He makes the class feel bad if they don't find a joke funny or if we don't have prior knowledge of biblical texts in order to analyze them.
Probably a 3/10 class. Only graded on 4 tests and one essay, with the essay having basically no directions and most people having no idea what to do. You HAVE to attend lecture to pass because a lot of the test is on stuff not in the posted powerpoints. He is a super nice guy who tries his best, but this is not an easy class and not an easy A
THL isn't my favorite subject, but Dr. Roddy focused us on the text and what the Bible actually says which made things more interesting. His feedback appears tough, but is really just extremely clear, concise, and accurate. Grading is fair + very consistent; applying feedback will benefit you + greatly improve your overall analysis/writing skills.
A bit of a tough professor. Lecture heavy, test heavy. 3 exams plus 1 final exam.
Although this class wasn't very difficult, it was awful. The professor tells you to use your own critical thinking to formulate arguments, but if you don't agree with his interpretation you're automatically wrong. Also, one single mistake is usually the difference between an A and a B and this professor has obvious class favorites.
This professor is by far the most demeaning individual I have ever had a class with. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I don't recommend taking him if you don't understand theology that well. His class doesn't really teach you he expects your to already know the subject. He is not flexible what so ever, no extra credit and no assignments other then the four exams and one paper that is attached to the final
People complained but it was pretty easy if you paid attention and took notes. I found it to be extremely interesting, we took a deep dive into the bible (which I have never read), that critically examined what the writers actually believed and what they were going through. Roddy is an accomplished archaeologist and extremely knowledgable.
Professor Roddy's THL216 class is no walk in the park. Lecture-heavy and test-focused, with little room for error. However, if you engage with the material and use helpful study tools like Unstuck AI alongside the required readings, you can succeed. Just be prepared to put in the work.
This guy is the goat and I dont understand the ratings here. Dude is super nice, knowledgable and caring. Very interesting class
Horrible horrible. This professor is by far the rudest and harshest grader I have ever experienced. His assignments make no sense and when you ask him to clarify he belittles you and gives even vaguer answers. Makes comments on assignments that directly attack your character. Complete waste of money and time.
The course isn't bad like the rate my professor says. I'm not yet done with the course but as long as you listen to the lectures, take notes, and fill out the study guide you will be in good hands. He truly cares about his students and their development in asking VCQ's. Tests aren't too hard too as long as you put in the work and lock in.
I was initially scared to take this class after the Rate My Professor. Genuinely the course was great and it was interesting. He truly does care about his students success. Just put in the time and effort for taking notes and studying for 4 Exams. No HW other than readings which help prepare you for class lectures. One Final Essay which wasn't bad
I don't get why all the ratings on this guy are bad, he's genuinely a great professor and wants his students to succeed. The class isn't hard, if you study the slides, you'll get an A. He posts the slides on blueline. There are 4 exams so it is test heavy, but the tests aren't terrible, they are short though, only one page front and back.
Dr. Roddy is a great professor and a very fair and kind person. You need to do well early in this class, as the first 3 exams are fairly difficult. The fourth one is a take-home exam and the final is a paper which he grades a little easier on. Go to office hours and that will help immensely. Not exactly an easy A, but I would take Dr. Roddy again.
