Speak French? Because I couldn't understand her English even after a semester with her. Her physiology class is really an Anatomy class so good luck. She is a very nice person, but very little learning takes place due to the communication barrier.
the class was torture. She has great stories but I couldn't understand most of what she taught because she talks and writes sooo fast. Her accent does help!
There is a textbook for this class though she doesn't use it and she tells you that the first day. She doesn't stick to her syllabus so don't schedule around it. She has a HEAVY French accent, not a bad thing in itself but compound that with her being a speed talker and an illegible speed writer, it makes her impossible to learn from.
Very thick french accent. Very unclear on certain subjects. DO NOT BUY TEXT BOOK! Everything comes from her notes posted online. Also, throughout the semester she would inform us of certain things being wrong in the notes so be sure to go to class. Quizzes given in class weekly on covered subject. Lots of leeway and chances to get an A. Labs easy!
It's really hard to understand her with her thick accent. You don't get used to it as the semester goes on. Bad cuz some o stuff on her tests r not on her notes. Recommend you read the book in addition 2 her notes. Tests not fair cuz everyoe gets diff test questions n some much easier than others. lots of her info is wrong 2
Really hard 2 understand, u don't get used to it during the semester cuz she spends a lot of her time talking into the chaldboard. She posts her notes on-line which is nice but lots of the information on the test u ilearn in class (if u understand her). recommend sitting in the front of class and/or reading the book along with her. Contradicts her
She has a very thick French accent and is hard to understand. She also talks really fast and that doesn't help at all. Very nice and has great stories to tell of certain situations. Quizes every week and helped when printed out notes for the class and then brought them to class on the lecture day.
You can't understand a word that comes out of her mouth. the only reason i passed was SI sessions. She taught incorrect information and half the time i thought she was speaking French. Horrible!!
Horrible Horrible Teacher, take from different professor
Difficult class, ended up teaching myself from the book mostly. Accent wasn't too bad after you got used to it, but lectures were confusing, wasn't very organized
You learn a lot from her tests. She was not helpful in her office at all. Sometimes 70% is the A.
As stated in previous ratings, she does have a very strong accent. However, you get used to it and I could understand everything she said after a couple weeks. Tries to make tests passable and is willing to go over material or even repeat what she said if you don't understand.
She was very nice but hard to understand. Her tests were multiple choice so I didn't think they were that hard. I an A but only because I taught myself the material, thank goodness she posts them online. I would reccommend a different prof.
Hard to understand because of her heavy, French accent. It is hard to understand what the questions on her tests are asking for. Many times she has the wrong answers to the test questions. She mixes her classes up and puts Physiology questions on her Anatomy tests. I would not take a class from her unless it is absolutely necessary.
She is hard to understand because of her accent which I never got used to, even after 15 weeks. She is a horrible teacher who often contradicts herself and the book. Her tests are all very poorly written and a lot of the times she has the wrong answers to the test questions. I would not take a class from her unless you like to teach yourself.
Yes she does have a thick French accent which takes about 1 week to get used to, but she is a great teacher! She really know her stuff. She is highly qualified. She didn't seem to difficult. This is a difficult subject though. She gives quizzes which help your grade and part of your exam is a take home test. Overall a great experience.
She is a nice person but a poor teacher. i did well on the quizes, which didn't help at all on the tests. The way that she writes the questions on her tests are impossile. Her english word placement is wrong so it makes it hard to understand what she is asking. She also condtrdicts herself and that also makes it hard to learn the material
Seems like a nice person however she SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING ANATOMY !?!? WHO HIRED HER FOR THIS POSITION?!?!
I am not even going to mess with this professor, had her for a couple days and dropped it like a ton of bricks! Very thick French accent, and unless you truly focus (even still you can only make out about 3/4 of what she is saying) you would swear she really was speaking french!
Her accent is not reason enough to avoid taking a class from her. She is extremely fair with grading, she is very knowledgeable about the subject, and adds a lot to the lectures with her personal experiences. There will be a fair amount of out of class work required to understand the subject, but what do you expect - it's human physiology!
I had her for anatomy, she loves human physiology so that is what she teaches. For anatomy she is not a good teacher. Take Chung, its not worth your time. And YES her accent is bad enough not to take it. No one in my class could understand. Thats why the average was 50% on test
Mrs. Okazaki was difficult to understand. Her native language is French and she would often write test questions backwards. This made it very difficult to understand her questions. I found that she would get concepts backwards as well confusing the class. She was very unorganized jumping from one topic to another which made it hard to follow her.
Very very strong accent. She seemed to try to be helpful but never quite made it there. She would get information mixed up all the time. Hard to understand test questions and answers. I was in Zool 1020 and she would use her anatomy notes for our class and did not use the book. I'm not taking anatomy until next semester. She is very confusing.
I worked very hard to get an A. I would never take a class with this women again. She gets her information mixed up all the time. If you like to teach yourself take her class. Be prepared to notice her mistakes on tests.
Great teacher! This class was a great experience.Okazaki is very helpful and will go out of her way to help you understand the material.Dont get me wrong it is a hard class, but that should be expected it is physiology!
This teacher is very, VERY, hard to understand. She has a very thick French accent. Invest in a tape recorder and record every class for use latter, it's invaluable. I have audited the class, but am taking it for a grade from Kotter.
I couldnt stop laughing in this class she slurs to French. She tries her best to trick us on quizzes and exams but end up tricking herself.IF she presented herself better I would have more respect for her but she runs in with her hair everywhere and an old sweater which she takes of during class and pulls her under shirt way upPlusher fly was down
Seemed like a nice person. However, it is almost impossible to understand what she said and tests were extremely difficult. Would not recommend.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES FROM HER!!! She has an incredibly thick French accent which makes her impossible to understand, and she mumbles. And her handwriting is like chicken scratches on the board. And she talks about things that are not related to the slide she is showing. AVOID!!!
Dr. B is great and really knowledgeable. People are going to complain about her french accent, but you go to France and teach in try and teach in another language. She was really helpful and labs were a complete waste of time and never worked but we still learned the concepts. She even cooked for us twice during the semester.
She does have a strong accent but you get used to it after about 2-3 classes. She offers a lot of extra credit. Make sure you go to class and do well on the quizzes, there is two EC points on each quiz. Her chi tester tests are hard but the take home will give you a lot of easy points. She is very willing to help and my hard work payed off! :)
This is the worst professor I have had at Weber State. I do not reccommend her. She has an awful accent, her lectures do not support what is on her tests, and she could care less about you or your grade. Take physiology from someone who knows what they are talking about.
Strong accent very hard to understand! I had to drop the class
Very hard to follow, very strong accent, focuses more on pathophys. rather than human phys. Do not recommend.
Strong French accent, very hard to understand. Very scattered on top of that, sometimes talks like you already know the material. Plan on working basically on your own. Wouldn't recommend if you have another choice.
There is no getting around the strong accent but Dr B wants you to do well. She is not out to get you and is very willing to work with the class and the individual. This is just a very difficult class, no matter who is teaching.
Dr B has a really bad French accent that makes it very hard to follow what she's saying. By the end of the semester, I could understand her fairly well, but the beginning was not fun. Dr. B really knows a lot about Anatomy and she has lots of funny stories, but she does teach a bunch of Physiology in her lectures. The lab part is what saved my butt
Do not recommend!
Dr B is a terrible teacher - I wouldn't recommend her to anyone! Just because you know a lot about a subject doesn't mean you are good at teaching it! She can't schedule or plan the semester to save her life & she makes an already-difficult subject more challenging to learn. I depended more on my peers & the book to learn. Take Scopeck!
This professor is impossible to understand and attending her lecture is a HUGE waste of time. Her quizzes are related to the lecture material but her tests are not. Her tests are totally unrelated to anything discussed in class. She stands in the way of her slides and scribbles unintelligibly on the chalkboard. She has no manners and rushes.
Had her for 2100&2200. "A"s in both. Tests off her slides, so book isn't necessarily required (Get old edition). Gives hints as to what questions are on tests, and throws out bad ones. Extra credit available. Hardest part about these classes are labs, which are out of her control, and the same no matter who you take. I did get used to her accent.
The semester started poorly, but she is VERY willing to work with you.Her accent is difficult, but listen for her to mention "test" and have her repeat herself if you miss it. They are VERY HELPFUL HINTS!I found if I listened to her, took notes from slides, and read text an A on the tests was a given.Easy As in Anatomy don't exist!Give her a chance
She is the sweetest lady and wants SO much to help her students. If you go in and talk to her in her office she ALWAYS has time for you and will take as long as you need to understand it. THAT BEING SAID, my small background in the subject made it extremely difficult to learn the material when I couldn't understnad her.
the book and her mumbling/incomprehensible french accent lectures do nothing to prepare you for the difficult tests.the multiple choice questions(with sometimes up to 20 choices)are written in terrible english and are wonderfully ambiguous.nevermind the fact that the tests average 9 chapters worth of material. wow!
this class is a joke.you will have to work VERY HARD and will still most likely receive a poor grade. tests contained TONS of errors(given in testing center so you couldn't ask the professor to clarify).class averages were low. i remember one test the average was 52% and the high was 71%(with no curve).LOL!
i loved berthelemy! this was my second time taking physiology (an already hard class) and she made it super interesting. if you're not good at understanding accents don't take her. All she requires is you come to class, listen and study. College is hard, people. get over it.
Dr. Berthelemy is a fantastic teacher. She goes a little fast in lecture and is very difficult to understand with her accent. Her examinations are extremely difficult but allowed our class t have a take home test for each exam that was worth 30 points of the 100 possible.
I attended every class and studied hard, the best I did on any of her ridiculous tests was a 70% without the added in take home which she plans to take out next semester. She is willing to work w/you but she did not go by the syllabus at ALL. class structure was confusing and all over the place. Very frustrating. Learned nothing.
She does have an accent but is willing to repeat herself or slow down if you ask. Tests from her slides which you can download. She reviews the test in class and throws out questions that the majority missed. Part of the test is take-home with extra credit available. Anatomy is tough, especially the lab, no matter who you take it from.
I went to every SSI, every class, I studied hours after class, I did all the extra credit opportunities, I did everything I could think of to pass this class, and I still got a D. I have no idea what I am going to do; I'm terrified; I don't know if I can afford to retake this class. If you don’t have to take this class from her, don’t.
Dr. Berthelemy is a very good teacher. The course is a difficult subject, that is why it is hard. It does take up a lot of your time to study to actually get a good grade, though. Go to every SI, do all the extra credit questions, and READ THE BOOK. Since she has a thick French accent, the book explains more of what you don't understand from her
Human Phys is a hard subject, and requires a lot of time. Dr.B knows her stuff but it's hard to understand her because of her accent and she talks very fast. Her test are extremely hard.I feel like I had to teach myself the material because I couldnt follow her. And her lecture notes were vauge and the tests are deep.
I took this class online which required extensive reading and studying. Dr. Berthelemy was extremely helpful with quick email responses to my questions. My only gripe is that some of her tests had questions that did not come from the book. Also, make sure you can retain information because the Final is cumulative.
I took both anatomy and physiology from her. Great professor! Has a lot of experience as a nurse and gives real life applications. She's willing to repeat herself if you don't understand her accent. Physiology is a difficult subject. If you go to class, put in the time for studying the slides and book, and go to lab, you can do well in this course.
Sit up front and ask questions. If not, you'll be S.O.L. Her french accent is hard to deal with. Not all material covered is from the book. Clueless about using Canvas (quizzes locked and not available when supposed to). Don't take as full time student.
Don't take this class from her. She has a very heavy French accent and she mumbles. Her handwriting are chicken scratch and her drawings are also terrible. Her tests questions are very vague. Overall she's a nice person, but horrible professor. I'm not even sure how she got hired.
Do NOT take this class. She is a horrible professor, sucks at speaking English, her tests are grammatically incorrect, and you can study for hours and still not pass the tests. Save yourself and not take it. You may think you can handle the class because you're smart, but that's what I thought. Horrible professor!
OF COURSE anatomy is hard. Yeah, her accent is hard, but you get used to it by the end of the semester, and she'll repeat herself. You have to keep up with her, but it's fun. The class was a challenge, but I learned a lot. Dr. Berthelemy is a great professor who knows her stuff. She's also willing to help out: All you have to do is ask/e-mail her.
This teacher is very hard to understand. The only thing I liked about this class was the quizzes and take home portion of the test. Her chi tester test have things that she didn't cover in class. She uses a lot of real life situation which is nice but hardly explains them for the test.
I sat though only a few weeks of this class, before i dropped it. I watched the class size drop from 150 to about 35-40 students. I could NOT understand a thing she was talking about (french accent). I had just graduated high school, having taken EMT, CNA and both college level anatomy and physiology classes. I thought I had a chance. HAHA nope!
Her accent is very hard to understand. Unless you are sitting in the very front, it is almost impossible to understand anything she is saying. she is a very nice lady, but I do not think she should be teaching such a complicated course.
I would not recommend this particular teacher if you are taking a human biology course. I took the same class in high school; it was difficult, but in a manageable way. Berthelemy has a very thick accent (hard to understand), but was the most frustrating were her online chitesters: things are on her tests which she DOES NOT cover.
I have never taken such a difficult class in my years of taking online courses. She has by far been the hardest class thus far with little clarification on what is expected of us. She is willing to help, however no study guides are presented and the tests don't cover what she presents in the lecture slides. Its difficult.
This professor is HORRIFYING. Take and learn French before taking her class. Her accent is so thick and understanding physiology is hard enough. She doesn't use her slides on tests or quizzes. And she claims that "things she says in class are not covered in the slides." There wasn't another option for a phys professor this semester. Take Scopek.
Very frustrating class. The professor had never taught it online before. All over the place there were pp from the teacher, quizzes and Labs from somewhere else and exams from somewhere else. The professor tried to help when possible she is hard to understand. Wish there had been study guides provided.
Dr. Berthelemy is such a nice lady but is so hard to understand. She will repeat herself if needed. I sat up front every class and I still only got about every 4 words because she speaks so fast AND in French. I felt like I had to teach myself most of it. If you need a really good grade in this class, I suggest you go with someone else if possible!
She is nice but it is a really hard class and it is hard to understand her. The test are really hard.
Has a French accent which is hard to understand. I haven't gone to class since the second week of school since I can't understand her but I still do great on tests because all of the material is put up online. She gives you multiple tries on quizes and tests which is nice. You will use the textbooks though.
Tough to understand and is easily sidetracked with stories. Not worth going to class.
Nicole does have a thick accent since she is French but she is a nice lady and if you go to her she will help you with anything. If you can't pass this class you're going into the wrong field. You'll have to study the text, PPs, and go to open lab to earn your grade.
She does have a very thick French accent; however, she asks multiple times during class if she is speaking to fast and if she needs to clarify anything. There are online quizzes for each section with three tries, and the exams you get two tries. If you aren't willing to work for the class, don't take it. But if you put in the time, you'll do fine.
As long as you follow the syllabus, keep up on the reading and study you will do well in this class. Dr. Berthelemy answered e-mails and questions quickly. Clear on almost everything. The things I did have questions about she explained very clearly hand helped me understand what was expected.
This was an online class for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You can take the quizzes multiple times so that you can really learn the material. The tests you are allowed to take twice and most of the questions are from the quizzes. If I can pull an A in Biology pretty sure anyone can.
The trick to doing well in this class is doing well on the exams. The trick to doing well on the exams is studying the material covered in the quizzes. Around 80% of the material on the exams is pulled out of the exact same test bank as you see on the quizzes. Keep this in mind while you are studying!
I hated this class. I cannot understand a word she said and had to get a tutor. Even my tutor was unclear of what she was asking/teaching. Her slides are so confusing and her tests don't give enough information to answer correctly. She is brilliant, don't get me wrong, but it's just hard when you can't understand a word she says.
This class was much harder than it should have been. I usually quite enjoy learning about the human body, but nothing was made clear by Nicole. She was very impersonal, and gave little to no extra help. I will definitely take this class again, from a different teacher! I want the opportunity to actually learn and be successful.
I took her 2nd block class in the summer. SHE HAS A HEAVY FRENCH ACCENT & is hard to understand. Record the lectures & digest later. U can take the midterms 2x there is a take home written portion too. The labs were easy and fun. She talks very fast and expects you to know the anatomy already. If possible take class from someone else like Skopec!!
Everyone is so negative towards Dr. Berthelemy but I actually really enjoy her class. She is extremely smart and knows what she's talking about. Utah isn't a diverse place to begin with, so anywhere else she wouldn't get such touch criticism. I love her and I plan on taking more of her classes! Just pay attention and you'll forget about the accent.
Professor B. was willing to help and respond when I had questions. There are 3 main things that make up the class, Chapter quizes (open book and unlimited attempts), tests (4 and a final), and the scientific experiment (25% of grade). The quizzes take time, but it is good information. Definately not an easy A, but a good class.
Took this class online and LOVED it! There is a lot of reading and a quiz each week that can be taken online from home and as many times as you want. 4 Exams that can be retaken twice, and a final that can only be taken once and is comprehensive. There is a science experiment project as well that takes some time and effort. Study hard.
The test are difficult and she does not provide any study guides, when asked for tips on what to study for the test she was no help.
This was an online class, so the book was more my teacher. She was an easy grader, but the tests are fairly hard, if you take this class you will be reading and making many flash cards. Overall, I liked this class. But when I talked to Berthelemy over email, she was super kind and was willing to work with me!
I took this online, seriously the easiest class I have ever taken. I got 100% on almost every exam. The material is all review if you have ever taken any anatomy or physiology classes. Berthelemy was easy to contact. Take time to do well on the science project. Quizzes are easy, tests are easy, just put some effort in and this class is a breeze.
She has an accent that can be difficult to understand at first but sit up front so you can hear better. Ask questions until you get it! she is patient. She is fair at grading and will give you points when possible. If you put in the work you can do well. Don't skip lectures, many test question topics are discussed. Quizzes are fill in the blank
Dr. Berthelemy is a wonderful instructor. She has a French accent, but as long as you pay attention you can understand her just fine. The lab section I took from her was easy. You show up, do a quiz, do the lab, turn in your packet, and you get full points. Only reason I didn't get 100% was because of the quizzes. Only thing she grades tough.
Dr. Berthelemy has a very heavy french accent. However, she is extremely nice. She cares about her students and if you take the time to interact with her she will be willing to help you with anything you need. She is very accommodating. Her "take home tests" are more like extra credit opportunities and they can really help your grade.
The class was structured around the 24 chapters in the textbook. You could read the text, view a powerpoint lecture to simplify the text and/or view supplementary material. Each chapter has a multiple choice quiz that you can take as many times as needed (Study the quizzes). There are 4 unit exams plus a final. One scientific experiment project.
So I feel like I'm a pretty level-headed dude, I don't use ratemyprofessor very much but I had to write a review for her. I'm a Biochem major and needed to take this class for a pre-req and I had her for one of my other labs for phys I think. DO NOT take genetics from her. It is the most off the wall class. Take it from Clark or Marshall.
The subject is cool but the class is really hard. She doesnt teach very good which makes it hard. You have to go back and re-teach yourself everything. The book is essential because that is where she gets most of her exam/quiz questions. She has a accent that can be hard to understand at first but as the semester goes on you get use to it.
have to teach yourself, and she piles on homework. you take quizzes as exams are due. you have quizzes, exams, and take home exams. the only upside is that the labs are easy.
This class was the hardest class I've taken so far. There lot of easy lab reports and simple quizzes on each chapter but difficult exams that are worth 65% of your total grade. Berthelemy teaches genetics with an unnecessary amount of complexity for a zoology major. I learned a lot but I felt like it was not worth it.
The class was based on the 24 Chapters in the book. You have a quiz for each one. 4 exams, 1 Final. There are no due dates for the quizzes so you can work at your own pace as long as it's all done by the end of the semester. However each exam is based on 6 chapters. The exams are open for 2 weeks and you can take them twice.
She's nice and easy to get ahold of if needed. There are 4 midterms and one final and they are not easy. You can take the midterms twice which is awesome and helps a ton but you can only take the final one. I studied the quizzes for each test and still struggled, I felt like there was lots of stuff on the midterms/final that wasn't on the quizzes.
There's 4 midterms and a final for the class. I studied the book, took the quizzes, and even sought help from outside resources. However, a lot of the midterms and even the final contain questions that weren't covered in the book or in the quizzes. I had to take this class as a pre-req, but I wouldn't take it unless you absolutely have to.
This was a tough course with a lot of reading and studying. Tests were based on material from 6 large chapters at a time. It was impossible to know what and how to study for them. Bonus was that you could retake for a higher score. I would not take a course from this professor again.
She's a nice person. However, I stopped showing up to class because I would never learn anything during lecture. Her accent is extremely thick. I had to teach myself everything. This class was hell and a proper lecture would've made it much easier.
The professor was fine. She responded quickly. However, this class is really hard. Even with studying the quizzes, textbook, and powerpoints I struggled with the tests. You almost have to memorize the whole textbook before you can really get the questions. For the midterms, you get to take them twice which is nice, but they are never the same.
She is a very kind professor. Very available to talk to and is very passionate about her work. However, her accent is very hard to understand. She did not use a book, only taught from her powerpoints. Her take home test are very hard. I don't think she realizes how difficult and time consuming her class is. Due dates are not clear. Disorganized.
Could not understand a word she said in lecture. Be prepared to read the entire book and still not understand.
Had a hard time understanding her criteria. Our class mostly has to help each other to pass. She wasnt a help to us at all.
Everytime I email her about a question I am having, she never answers my question. I know the class was online, but she offered no regular assistance and only talks to the class when the entire class has an issue. If you are one that needs more than reading a textbook to learn, dont take any of her classes!
It was an informative class but mostly done independently and heavy reading and quiz taking. She was open to having zoom calls and always responded to my messages. Was mostly self paced and quizzes only needed done before the tests, if you need specific deadlines and are not super self-motivated take from a different professor.
She's French with a thick accent so she's hard to understand sometimes. HOWEVER, she is always willing to explain further if you are confused. Lots of assignments are "try and fail" but they don't affect your grade. During manuscript writing, she edits your draft and allows you to resubmit for full credit. Slight learning curve, but she helps a lot
I had her for my intro to zool lab and it was a nightmare. She was never clear on grading criteria for assignments. She also displays 'good' and 'bad' examples on assignments from class. When she did this, she would humiliate (not exaggerating) students who did bad, in front of the class. Be prepared to be confused, and redo half your assignments.
She is a very kind and funny person. Thick French accent. I got used to it after a while, however I could almost never follow what she wrote on the whiteboard because she wrote illegibly, and would talk to the board. By the third week of class, we only had 7 students remaining, and another student dropped the class a few weeks later.
Nothing was graded by her even our final project was graded by other students. Tests & quizzes on diagrams that are different than those in the textbook. When I reached out about this, I was told that they were the same. Get ready to memorize! Her tests are HARD! I only did well because of my tutor that I saw several times a week, no thanks to her.
I took Human Biology with her and was on online course. All we did was read through out textbook, take quizzes and exams. She did no teaching. We also did a signature assignment, which our peers graded and not her. It was very hard material to read and understand.
Absolutely the worst class I've taken so far. It was an online course, but the entire semester I received 1 single email from the professor. There was no communication and when you reach out to her you can tell she hates her job and reacts with hostility. You basically need to memorize the entire textbook to do decently well with this class.
