Tries to intimidate you, but grades easy. Talks very fast.
unorginized with assignments..does not follow sylabus, talks fasy...ok grader
gives hard stuff, but easy grader, intimadating, lots of useless info, not carin
hate her with a passion, picks favorites but doesnt grade very hard

LOTS of reading and work. Save trouble and don't take unless you love history.

talks fast, has favorites, tests too long to finsh, hard even for history major
At first, you hate her. Then you learn a ton. Then you like her. Lots of reading

Annoying at some points!Knows her material!Has favorite students!(Class of 2001)
Gives you everything for exams, must take good notes
Gives you all of the questions for tests. Must take good notes. Recommend.
Take another prof. Tests are kinda easy but talks fast, boring & TONS of readin
She wasnt so bad, lots of reading, and she's cute. Do the work, get a good grade, I wasnt a history major so idont know about favorites.
I am horrible at history, was placed in her class by mistake, suppose to be in history of Balt., at 1st almost died, then liked her she was always available. Lots of reading, teasts real hard but gives study guide. In the end got an A, take good notes!
I completely loved this class. I love listening to history, especially history buffs who know what they are talking about, and she does. But you really do have to study, those identification questions will kill you if you don't.
I think she sucks. Pain in the ass of a class too. Too much reading, and she talks so fast that you cant take good notes. If you dont know any history- dont take her class. If you feel like kissing some a**...dont say I didnt warn you
I think she's a great lecturer, really makes history come alive. She uses a lot of primary sources, which is great. But you have to be an interested student, willing to study, really care about your work.
The worst! 20-25 page paper. 9 books, with about a book a week due. Lots of writing on the readings, too. VERY UNHELPFUL with research. Keeps changing her expectations every class. Take with someone else.
Must read a lot of books but she is a fair grader and gives you the info for tests.
WAYYY TOOO much reading damn.. There were 7 book for our class plus the textbook WTF.. anywayz papers were pretty hard and she lectures all class. SHe thinks this is the only class your taking..

Class was intense. She talks fast. Lots of chances for extra credit. TONS OF READING!!! If you're not a history buff, do NOT take this class. And if your cell phone goes off during class, she kicks you out :(
Be prepared to buy a lot of books and do a ton of work. Do not take a class with her if you already have a full schedule or are not interested in History.
REal Hard and does not care
I loved her! I originally thought she was hard until some student laughed at me and said she's the nicest/easiest person. If you aren't lazy like 99.9 percent of the kids at Towson, you'll get an easy A.
I went into this class feeling that i was going to be pounded with work. She is really cool with upper level history because she knows u want to be there. One 8-10 pg paper, midterm and final is your grade. As long as u show up you will know what to expect on the tests. Take her for upper hist
ROCK ON NICOLE
Theirs no easy way out of Hist 300 but in her class you are going to get someone who is knowlageable about her topic and has a intrest in passing on that knowlage to her students. Yes the reading is intense but the books are very worth while. I highly recomend taking this class with Prof Dombrowski.
Tough but fair, you know what's expected of you. Lots of reading.
We had 10 books, yes 10 books. You have to read them all because you have 3 papers on the books. Her classes cost a fortune. If you don't like to read and write papers don't take her. I got an A but I worked hard. Consider yourself warned.
Lot o books...should be an upper level class. Needs to give out study guide earlier. Test is not fun. Not very warm person. But CAN be interesting sometimes...lectures are chunky and don't flow. There are better teachers to take. Sometimes she wears clothes that are too big for her.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! It was interesting... but WW1 in less than a days lecture.. come on. Pretty much a three grade class... should be an upper level class!
avoid this woman at all costs. her lectures are unclear. it is too much work for a 100 level course--you have to read 6 novels, a textbook, and a packet full of exerpts. you also have a midterm, term paper AND final. horrible teacher, i hate going to class. AVOID HER!
Everyone below this comment is crazy Prof. Dombrowski is so nice and so helpful, you just have to want to take the class. Yes it is hard, but she is there to help you so shut up!
Nicole is awesome!!! She is so willing to help those who seek her out. Yes, she expects a lot from her students, but she's made me a better student. I'm sad I can't take anymore courses from her.
a 25 page paper... if you can't handle that then you need to change your major... she is helpful and not a hard grader... just do what she says... she is a nice lady and has a good sense of humor
This is an expert. She's smart and friendly and glad to help. Her upper-level classes are for real students who want to learn and are interested in the subject. Sadly, 103 is full of idiots trying to fill GenEd requirements. But she's a very fair grader and superb instructor. You read a lot, but the books are excellent selections. Thanks, Dr. D.
very knowledgable and willing to help. did decent with packing in the 2nd half of euro. seems like a lot of work, but really isn't. I only read 1/2 of the literature books & barely opened the text. grades tests much easier than expected. really just wants to sound like a hard-ass. anyone that does poorly just doesn't want to do ANY work at all.
Knows France, and you can't say otherwise. Expects you to read a lot of [good] books (she's interested in literary perspective)--if you're in the 13th grade avoid her. Tons of discussion, casual atmosphere, and her midterm was a field trip to the BMA. Wouldn't say she grades easily, she actually seemed to love what I wrote and heaped praise on it
I loved this class. The lectures are excellent. She's good at stringing the events together. Loved it. I never found myself bored during the lectures.. great sign. I got by with ignoring the packet, but you should read the books she assigns. Great class! Great Professor!
Very poor at teaching.Class harder then my inter. acct. Tests are ridiculously hard. Two grades...final and midterm.15 page paper was our final in a 100 level course.Books for class cost 200 bucks.Plus you can't sell them back at the end of the semester.Class was unrealistic at best.
Difficult to read her. She tries to appear strict, but she's actually very nice and understanding. Too many novels made it feel more like a literature class than history. Note taking can be difficult because she jumps topics quickly. If you actually read all 8 novels, it's a breezy. Otherwise, you'll struggle. She's very into anything Europe.
I would easily date her. Although I'd rather get curb stomped than have to reread Madame Bovary, the class was great and so was Dr. Dombrowski.
An above average history professor. She expects alot out of a 100 level course but it is not that bad. If you attend class and take notes there is no reason to not get an A. I would take her again
The absolute worst teacher I've ever had. She assigned a million stupid busy work assignments that had no bearing what so ever on the material of the course. I learned nothing from her. She was completely disorganized through out the semester. BUT, she is an easy grader. I would not recommend takinga course with her.
I have taken three classes with this professor and wish I could take more.
She was sort of funny in a weird way but I didnt pay for funny I paid to learn and I didnt feel like I learned anything I didnt already know. This is the first class I felt was horrible not because it was hard but because the professor was no good.
Pay attention or you will fall behind. She is very helpful if your struggling.
She is a great person and funny. She tends to present a ton of information during her classes at a fast rate. Also, she teaches it as if you have some background in this subject. She is willing to clarify and help explain things if you ask. Need to go to class and take notes. Be assertive with the workload from the start or you will be overwhelmed.
Initially the class will seem unbearable and difficult and you will consider drippoing it, but dont. It gets easier through out the semester and your assignments will be graded very easily. There are only 2 exams and one term paper. There is some outside reading required excluded from the textbook, but nothing too hard. I would recommend her
Excellent teacher. She's passionate, insightful, and strangely funny. Expect to write a lot. Strong writers will do well in this class, but if you don't meet deadlines, fulfill the requirements or don't properly cite sources, don't expect to get a high grade. She's a caring teacher who will go above and beyond to help you if you are struggling
She's very passionate and knowledgeable about the material. For anyone who is a history major, the paper grading should seem lenient.
She's an excellent history teacher. She expects people to participate in class and show that they are paying attention. Her base of knowledge is incredible and broad. Mid term and Final are some short answer IDs and two essays which are easy as long as you prepare in advance. Expect to write papers and use proper citations to get an A
Dr. Dombrowski-Risser is great! She maintains your attention during class by making it interesting and is always willing to help out and answer questions. Though sometimes she isn't very good at responding to emails or staying organized, she's always willing to move due dates around to accommodate her students. Would definitely recommend.
I thought she was great! She is super funny in class and really keeps you engaged. She has a few papers per semester, but they are not hard. She also lets you revise your papers. Midterm and final were super easy, she gives the terms and essays that will be on them. Just memorize the terms and draft your essays and you will get an A for sure!
Professor DR is amazing! She really knows the material and makes the lectures interesting. However, you HAVE to go to class. There is no other way to keep up with her lectures than writing it down as fast as possible - especially in your own style. She jumps around a lot and if you blink you may miss 30 years of history.
Dr. Dombrowski-Risser really is one-of-a-kind. She's engaging, hilarious, and really passionate about what she teaches. You must participate in class. She may give a lot of reading and writing assignments, but if you're not willing to put in the work than maybe you shouldn't be taking upper-level courses.
This professor is probably really smart, but she walks into class everyday and just makes up what we are doing as we go along. She doesn't follow the syllabus and then gets mad when we didn't do the readings because we have no idea where we are in the semester. The readings and text are ridiculous, 5 required text... no thanks! . DO NOT TAKE HER
She is super nice and if you do the readings , will pass easily
Prof. Risser is very smart and is very knowledgable about history. However, her lectures are very disorganized and it seems like she is all over the place when she teaches. It's hard to follow and can be very overwhelming.
Dr. Dombrowski is one great professor, she made history 103 fun and engaging. Its important to remember to participate. There were plenty of extra credit opportunities that you couldnt miss. Therefore, youre bound to get an A. The study guide also covered everything on the midterm and the final exam. I would highly recommend taking her.
I took Prof. Risser for Hist205 which she treated like a 400 level course. She assigned hundreds of pages of reading EVERY week. Lectures extremely disorganized, barely any guided note taking. Jumps from topic to topic with no background whatsoever. Does not post ANY grades on blackboard so your left never knowing where you stand in her class......
If you never listen to a rate my professor review again, listen to this one. I wish I had. This was the worst class I have ever taken in college. She is extremely rude , disorganized , and cant teach. She rambles about god knows what the entire time and then thinks she assigned things that she never assigned. She never responds to emails.
Worst class ever. This class added more to my stress, because I taught myself. The textbook was my holy grail and saved me. It felt like a 400 level class and this is a 100 level and fills a core. Doesn't answer emails. Forgot our midterm study guide then threw a take home midterm at us and did not let us ask her for clarification. Cried a lot.
Her class is certainly not easy, and is ridiculously hard for a 100 level class, but in the end I definitely learned a lot. I had to do all of the work on my own, though, and she requires you to read WAY too much outside of class. The assignments are not easy. She lectures for hours without giving a chance to ask questions. She is very smart tho.
Take Prof. Dombrowksi! She is so nice. The class requires a lot of writing and reading, but she really appreciates effort just like you should appreciate hers. Do your work, try, communicate with her and it will reflect in your grade. Tests are w/ blue books, written exams! Show what you know even if its not 100% and you will pass!
I needed to buy 5 books for this class, it required a ton of reading, you're graded on 5 total assignments, and the professor just stands up front and rants the whole class. this isn't even for my major, i needed 1 credit to graduate. i had a 90% and i failed the midterm (as most of the class did) and my grade dropped to a 68%. this class sucked.
I really enjoyed Mrs. Dombrowski, she was really nice. She looks confused half the time, but she's actually very knowledgable. Plus, if you go to office hours she's awesome at answering your questions thoroughly. Although, she does kind of make you feel dumb sometimes, she grades really easy! She isn't quick with emails, so just go to office hours.
I have taken 3 of her classes. I honestly enjoyed her classes -VERY lecture heavy -gives extra credit opportunities -buy ALL the text -ASK QUESTIONS IN PERSON & CLASS -midterm & final: IDs & 2 essays, her study guides are literally her exams -lots of reading, can SKIM, or can fake it till you make it (I did) -MUST PUT IN WORK -come to class to pass
this class added to my stress, and when I got sick during the semester, she wouldn't accept a doctor's note or explanation. I do not recommend taking this course!
Can't miss class-- some days are entirely lecture, but 90% of the time attendance is taken through some group work in-class and she doesn't do well with accepting sick days. Don't take if you hate being called on, she depends on participation (will call randomly/get to know names).
She is so disorganized so the class was almost always clueless, she never knows what we did in class herself, she rants and required reading and attendance. There is usually about 25 pages of reading in between each day. Worst of all, she will insult and call out. One class she went around and called out every student for something they did wrong
The worst part about this class was the blatant lack of disrespect she had for her students. I felt like it was her personal mission to tear us down and make us feel worse about our work and capabilities. She shared students grades and reasons for absences, which is a clear violation of FERPA. Never take her. She also grades based on favorites.
She gave only vague syllabus descriptions then got passive-aggressive when we were confused. One class she yelled at specific people, telling their own personal lives that she had no right to tell the class. Grades did not make sense with us not knowing how we were graded. I got almost no feedback on a draft while my classmates got many paragraphs.
Doesn't respect students. Got mad one day and "banned" my class from going to the bathroom or leaving class for any reason. She didn't end up enforcing this policy, but some students still felt the need to ask to use the bathroom. Vague directions on essays because what she says she wants and the syllabus don't match up.
out of all my classes, this was the class i enjoyed the least. it was constantly lecture-heavy, and her notes had made absolutely no sense. she was very disorganized, and after i took that final i was beyond grateful and happy to not have to attend her class anymore. she also takes attendance through group assignments as well.
She does not elaborate on content requested during assignments
Dr. Dombrowski-Risser is exceptionally bad as a 21st century teacher. She has little to no knowledge of technology. Her lectures are incoherent ramblings and full of "uhs" and "ums" with no clear flow. Absolutely stay away if you can.
She is a very poor modern professor. Her understanding of technology is extremely basic and we had many classes where she expected us to read a passage but she never posted it correctly. She is very vague with her expectations for papers and writings. There is little to no criteria posted for formatting or requirements for papers. Horrible time.
shes very unforgiving
She is absolutely the worst with technology She does not understand that college courses have evolved and is still stuck with her courses in an archaic course structure and paper midterms and finals. She doesn't treat students fairly across the board as she portrays favoritism. She told me I should leave her class because I had to use the restroom
She does not know how to be a professor in the year 2024. Her PowerPoints make no sense and she does not care that they are not coherent. She doesn't grade with a fair or comprehensible scale. The absolutely worst professor I have ever had in my entire college career.
She is very demanding and assigns many readings, quizzes, assignments, and long essays. Also, be ready to participate in some group activities. Besides that, her classes are exciting and are a perfect balance of in-class activities and lectures. Her selection of readings are really good and engaging. She is also unintentionally hilarious!
Gives *very* little directions on assignments then will deduct points for not doing something she never told you to. Calls on students regularly, many times to belittle them or just to see them flounder, and is very critical of work while giving vague/unhelpful feedback. Group work is constant and very unstructured. Also very bad with technology.
long lectures a lot of group activities.
