Rushed through 2 textbooks in 9 lectures, then sat through the rest of the semester while students gave presentations. Grade based on only one paper, a midterm and a presentation. Do bad on one...you're screwed.
I found this class very interesting! Although there was only one exam, Dr. Dorey made sure we understood the material and was available for questions. I found Dr. Dorey very knowledgeable on the material and her lectures kept me entertained. The student presentations and discussions also made this class fun.
Great psychology teacher, very nice too.
Enjoyable class. Makes lectures fun, uses videos too. I recommend going first for the presentations because she grades the first people easier. GO to Class! She's a stickler for attendance. You have to study to pass this class. Overall I learned a lot of cool stuff.
Rushes through a lot of class material in a short amount of time, then spends about a month doing group presentations. She spends most of her time during the presentations glaring at people in the class behind her, who aren't even being distracting. Very unprofessional and rude to the people giving the presentation.
This woman had a blatant disrespectful attitude for her students. Many of the assignments were handled unfairly and often covered materials that students were not informed that they needed to know like the back of their hand. Dorey is a crazy lady and tried to make her students look bad in turn of covering her own stupidity and unorganization. Do NOT take this PSY 3213L class with this woman or be prepared to have the same amount of work as two other classes added to it.
Each class consisted of a rushed through ppt, a group project, and a quiz on the chapter from the week before. The quizzes were hard and unfairly graded, as were the research presentations at the end. If you want an A, make sure you go early in the presentation cycle and not at the end or she'll screw you.
PSY3213L with Dorey was awful. The class was set up:quiz, dorey lecture, assignment, guest lecture. The quizzes consisted of material from the book, her lecture and the guest lecture and were unfairly graded. Disorganized. She spoke down to her students, rolled her eyes.Mandatory class or you get penalized. Not helpful outside of class; doesn't care.Rude.
The research methods lab was easily the most boring Psychology class that there is. She was a little rude and not very approachable. The class was once a week with a weekly assignment, quiz, lecture, and guest lecture. Quizzes were short answer from the book and quite difficult. You have to read the chapters very carefully.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She's ditzy, unorganized and talks down to her students to compensate for her own shortcomings. I would not reccomend this lady to teach anything. Avoid her classes at all costs.
Smokin' Notes is what teaches this class best, not Dorey. I gained nothing from any lecture I went to, so skipped them alltogether. Read those notes carefully, and you WILL get at the very least a high B. Her tests can be tricky, so beware of that too. Again, SmokinNotes!!!!!
Shes really not that bad (but she tries to intimidate you). I have her for PSY2012 and its easy! i stopped going to class bc i could pass by just reading the book. the only good thing about going to class is that she sometimes makes comments on what to study for the test. but the class is soo big that you dont get to know her on a personal level.
Tests were way too hard for an elective class. I would not recommend taking her if this is a class your looking for an easy A.
She used powerpoints as her preferred teaching method. She went through the slides so fast that you couldn't take any notes. Her tests are VERY tricky.I would study my smokin notes AND read the book and questions on the test would still stump me. She made you make appointments during office hours and seemed annoyed at questions. Wouldn't recommend.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, WORST CLASS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE ... rushes through (3?) lectures that she gives in order to make time for group presentations (BARELY watches but grades HARSHLY).. i regret taking this class it ruined my gpa
Easy and comedic. Lectures are fun even if you don't really need to go, you get extra credit in them. Don't try to cheat you will get caught!
never attended class and when I read the book very thoroughly and read through the powerpoints posted online for extra info, I aced the exams. classes are amusing but she goes too fast to take notes. she is snarky which is kind of annoying at times, but the subject is extremely interesting which I recomend and the class is ace-able so might as well
horrible teacher. Do not take her class if you can avoid it. 4 tests, all of which are very hard. cannot make an A without reading the textbook cover to cover and even then it is almost impossible
Dorey is probably the worst teacher I've had in college. All she does in rifle through the lectures with hastily prepared powerpoints, and then proceed to make her tests (50 question MC) quite difficult. Avoid her if possible. If you are in her class, skip the lectures and make SmokinNotes your bible.
I thought Professor Dorey was hilarious and super chill. I had to interview her for a class and she was super approachable and really nice. Her lectures aren't that necessary (although the occasional question comes straight from it) but if you read the chapters, you'll get an A every time. She's funny!
Nicole Dorey has to be among the most insufferably bad of awful professors. She feigns a chipper attitude in an attempt to lull you into a false sense of security about her feelings toward students. Asking anything seems to be time consuming and annoying to Dorey. Bitter and mocking, this shrill professor is definitely not one I recommend.
Do yourself a favor, and don't take a class with her. First of all, the grading scale is ridiculous - there's a FOUR point difference between passing the class, and not. She is miserable to listen to, constantly stutters "so", makes the class much harder than necessary, and grades harshly. LISTEN: Take a different lab or a different professor.
I have never met a professor that signifies the opposite of what a PSYCHOLOGY prof should be. She didn't pass half of the class and all of her exams are conceptual. No matter how prepared you thought you were for them, you never were. She gave a guy a C-, point away from a C and he was GRADUATING.TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER whatever you do!
This is the worst teacher I have had at UF (and I am a graduating senior)! The lectures were unbearable and the amount of busy work both in class and as hw assignments was completely unnecessary. She has extremely high expectations but does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO FACILITATE LEARNING!
She really wasn't as bad as people here make her out to be. Sure, her tests are hard, but she tells you the first day of class what to expect. She was always very helpful to me and I really enjoyed her class. However, DO NOT TAKE THIS SUMMER B! It's way too fast paced to get a full understanding and feel for psychology.
Summer B- class is fast paced. MUST read textbook to get an A. Go to lectures bc they help u remember the examples (used on tests). Good summer class bc you have time to study. She tells u from the beg. that the tests are hard and class avg. is a C and that u have to study to pass. Text is easy read. really interesting. Take it for summer b!
She's a pretty good teacher BUT it would be WAY better if she would 1.) just go to a standard five-exam format (instead of the ridiculous quizzes and over-weighted midterm and final). and...2.) remain consistent with what the syllabus says. Tests are moved so much you really don't know when to plan on taking one!
Dr. Dorey is a horrible teacher. The only reason for going to class is the clicker points. And to pass the quizzes and tests all you have to do is read Smokin' Notes. She changes the dates of the tests all the time and has nothing useful for you in her lectures. In my opinion you couldn't have a better teacher that has no care for her students.
Her lectures are actually very interesting and if you read the book it's really not that hard. She's tough but not unapproachable. She's actually kinda funny too.
Can't stand her at all. Take something else to work on during class because the lectures are useless, except for the clicker points. Overall easy class, get smokin notes
This is one of the most disappointing teachers at UF. She gives difficult assignments to complete in a very short period of time, she grades very harshly, and barely teaches you what you need to know. For the tests, if you don't know the book backwards and forwards, you will not do well, as her lectures do not cover half of what is on them
PSY2012 was alright for a general education class. The subject matter is interesting but, Prof. Dorey isn't nessecarily the best at making it any more than what it already is. Lectures are pretty straight forward. The up-side is that she posts them on Elearning so, you can go back & review. I found reading the book to be necessary as well, though.
I have had several different classes with Dr. Dorey, so I have learned her style well. She is not by any means unfair, but rather challenging because she wants her students to LEARN. She is passionate about what she teaches, which is most than I can say for many professors. If you are looking for a free grade, then don't waste yours or Doreys time
Dr Dorey is very helpful during her office hours.
Lots of assignments which are graded very harshly.
Im taking this course online, and it is horrible! There is a quiz every week, and if you don't know the text forward and back you will not pass. She gives some extra credit which is nice. You have to do discussions and responses weekly and do 5 hours of psych research. I read every week and can easily say I learned nothing.
I took this class online and I thought it wouldn't be too bad since it's online, but it's pretty bad. The assignments were time consuming and unclear many times. She pretty much wasted my time. She kinda sucks about answering questions too. Don't take this class online.
she wasted my time and money. don't take her class online.
This class is not easy, but do your work and you will get a good grade. There is a full assignment, quiz, exam and reading load. Follow her guidelines exactly or you WILL get points off (or even a 0). Other than that, not too bad. Mistakes often come up, but she fixes them if she can and allows you to petition grades with reasoning.
Difficult class to take online. She acts nice on her video lectures but very harsh when grading assignments and tests. A lot of homework, quizzes and exams. When she does a video lecture review for a big exam (which is rare), most of the information she talks about is not of the exam. Overall, would not recommend taking this class online.
This class is definitely manageable. Disregard lectures completely and simply read the textbook, and you can easily achieve an A. Keep up with assignments, which are due Wednesday of every week. Quizzes for each segment are due the day before the test. Make outlines to refer to while taking quizzes/tests and you will be fine.
I took this class Spring 2012 online. A ton of people complained in the class and through the message system constantly. It really got quite annoying. This class online is a lot of busy work and sometimes the grading sucks on assignments, but all of the exams and quizzes are easy. I never studied and still ended up with a very high A.
She was a horrible professor. I took her class online and she was useless. She is no help at learning or understanding the material. If you have to take PSY 2012, DO NOT take her!
This class was the worst class I have ever taken at UF. Dr. Dorey is unavailable, the TA's are rude, the assignments are completely gibberish, and changes come every other day. Not to mention not getting grades in a timely manner. Spare yourself. Take someone, anyone, else.
She made it hard! Lots of reading. But totally manageable!!
If you need a high grade and you don't care about learning psychology then this is your class. I hardly learned anything yet the concepts can be interesting. The discussions are annoying and tests/quizzes are filled with mistakes so be aware, you might get extra points. She just reviewed concepts in which people were having problems. Uses ProctorU.
Extremely disorganized does not even to begin to describe what happened in this class last semester. Get ready to teach yourself. Pretty heavy workload. Assignment directions are unclear. Exams and quizzes were okay, as long as you read and take detailed notes. This class will take over your life. I got an A, but I had to drop orgo to get it.
I have taken two classes with dr Dorey this lab being the most recent. Last semester was the first time she ever taught this class so of course there were kinks that are now fixed for this semester. In terms of workload there is a decent amount and in terms of her help you need to show some effort - welcome to college you get out what you put in
This was honestly one of the worst classes I've taken. If you have to do it, it's not hard to get a good grade if you stay on top of everything though. Just expect to be extremely frustrated and confused at her instructions and assignments. I'm sure she'll get better at teaching it over time.
I have never been so frustrated with a class. Instructions are unclear, assignments graded incorrectly, TA's respond rudely, blatant errors on all my exams, and I had to constantly waste my time disputing questions for my grade. I really don't think it is fair for anyone to have to deal with the frustration that accompanies this class.
Dr. Dorey was one of the worst teachers I ever had. She would not accept questions as to why answers were contradicted in the book, and also did not accept my accommodations given to me by the Disability Resource Center - which is also illegal. Don't take her if you could possibly need any help, large or small.
Horrible. No help, she never even taught a life lecture, or graded any of our work - a computer program does it all. The TA''s are all snooty and arrogant and don't provide answers to anything, they'd rather write a long e-mail explaining how they've already answered this question, and that you should go look for it through a million posts online.
There are no live lectures; the book is your teacher. She does not offer help at all and the assignments are all computer-graded.
This course was difficult to take online... I would have greatly preferred a live class with lectures. Waste of money.
Absolute worst teacher. Do NOT take this online course with Dr.Dorey. She could care less about your grade or the class and is very rude and sinister. A terrible 'teacher'.
I took this class online. You are completely on your own with the material. The best advice I can give is to buy the only textbook instead of the hard copy. It makes it incredibly easy to look up information quickly with control/find.
This class is NOT that bad. There is about one assignment due each week. However the teacher can be very rude and unreasonable. Buy the online book to look up answers for quests and exams.
I would have much rather taken this course in a live lecture. She's not helpful at all, she seems rude and she doesn't seem to care about the students, there's no video lectures, and you have to read the textbook to teach yourself the course material. Everything is graded by an online system, so she doesn't even grade it.
Rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful. She is terrible at explaining things, grades harshly (when she does grade) and has no interest in her students. Psych is interesting, the instructor is NOT. Worse course I've taken thus far!
This teacher is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is rude, unhelpful, and despite being relatively young very unreasonable. She has not taught as single thing and every assignment is simply reading the textbook and taking stupid "quests". The school should have realized by now what a waste of funds she is and a waste of space.
RUDEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!! DO NOT TAKE DR. DOREY. She has the worst attitude and is not helpful at all. If you want to get called dumb by your professor and feel completely ignorant, then she is the perfect professor for you. She was absolutely miserable to deal with concerning an question on material or assignments.
Easily the worst professor I've had in my life. I'm a good student and put in hard work to teach myself psychology and got a B+ in her psych class- which is a my first B ever. She was rude, unhelpful, and just overall terrible. You have to fight for every grade you get as it seems that her and her clan of evil TA's are out to get you.
Terrible class. So awful. I am a Pre-Med Major and have an A in Calc and Chem but online Psychology is ridiculous to get an A. The online quests and exams are scenario type questions and you need the Ebook to do well. It is easy to get a B but impossible to get an A. The TA's purposely fail everyone on the group projects.
The entire course is based off of the textbook, Dr. Doreys lectures are completely pointless and painful to watch. The TAs grade the group projects SO harshly, almost impossible to get an A. Missed an A- by one lousy point, but can easily get an A in chemistry. Only good thing is having access to an eBook during exams
Essentially read the textbook to pass. Dr Dorey seemed willing to help those who needed. Never watched the lectures.
I don't think Dr. Dorey should be allowed to teach an online class. Everything is SO vague, and when you ask for help, she just tells you to look at the syllabus or at a section of the website that doesn't exist or is no help. If one tiny thing goes wrong with your internet, even if you for sure submitted something, there's no chance of re-grading.
Literally the worst class ever. The online section is impossible- she makes the timing for every test ridiculous- you'll barely finish and if you do you'll still fail... I'm dropping and taking it next semester in class.
I actually loved the content but for real, this class sucks. You learn from the book and are given essays that are impossible to get a 1010 on. The assignments are practically irelevant and there's almost a guarantee that you won't get an A no matter how hard you study. The tests are the worst tests I've had to take at UF
She makes the class much harder than it needs to be. Won't tell you when anything is due and is not helpful in the slightest. Don't forget to do the research requirement that is mentioned once in the syllabus and is never brought up until the final grades are posted. Don't miss assignments, anything late by more than a second is a 0 no matter what.
This class is designed for failure. She required 95% of individuals to take the professor review for the ONE extra credit point she offered. She is very hostile if you do not understand and have questions. Her lectures are unrelated to the subjects and terribly boring to watch. I would rather transfer than take this course again.
Well this class was definitely not easy, Dorey is not a bad teacher she's actually pretty clear and does a good job relaying the information it's just not a class that should be held online
The tests weren't definitionsfacts from the book, they were examples being used in real life situations. Half the time the answer choice consisted of the right answer (something we had yet to learn) and 3 terms of which we had learned. I went to Dr. Dorey seeking for help and her response? -This is something you have to learn on your own.-
I had Dr. Dorey for PSY2012 & it was a semester from HELL. She was horrible. Then, junior year I had her again for CBH3003 and she was AMAZING. She realizes PSY2012 is a weed out & many students do not take psych seriously at this level, so she is extra critical. Upper level psych courses she is amazing and very sweet. Very easy class.
Ignore what everyone tells you about taking Dr. Dorey's online Animal Cognition course. When I read all the hype that UF students tend to make about this course, I was scared that I would get a C at best, but I took the class regardless. To my surprise, I received an A in the course, a 97%. Just read the book, watch the videos, and you'll do great.
I'm not sure about the live section, but if you sign up to take PSY2012 online with professor Dorey you should probably try to change your schedule. Worst professor I have ever had in my entire life.
Don't take this course if you're looking for another "Easy Online A" because that is NOT what you'll get. Her exams are very difficult and require a lot of studying prior to. She gives you 20 minutes for 20 questions (each of which are like 5 sentences long). Interesting subject, though!
She is not a good professor, bottom line. She posted a couple lectures a week that were very short and not in depth. Half the time it seemed like she was just reading off a script. I studied for 8 hours for one of her exams once and did the worst out of any of her exams (never study that much). Doesn't make sense. Her exams are so poorly written.
prepare to be treated like a child. it's a 3 credit course but her lectures are less than 30 minutes each week. tests are poorly written. grade disputes do not provide any clarity. you teach yourself the material. going to office hours will get you nowhere. she doesn't seem invested in her students learning the material.
This is not the class to take for an easy A, but if you commit and do all the readings and take good notes, it's possible. Dorey's recorded lectures weren't very helpful, but I really recommend meeting with her during office hours. She gave good advice and helped me turn my grade around. If you really do the reading and study, an A is possible.
Her tests are extremely tough because most of the questions are base on your own knowledge. I feel like I don't even learn anything out of this course.
Brutal Grader, don't expect any flexibility. Dog Died? Mom has Cancer? Got Shot in the leg? Better luck next semester. Need help? Read your textbook. Not really approachable, don't expect any actually helpful answers. Your textbook and her documents are all you got here. Tests can be tricky, know the obscure side notes and statistics.
Tough class. I took this course for MCAT prep. Dr. Dorey's class did not prepare me at all for basic psychology. Her questions are obscure and do not test you on concepts. They are application based, but you miss the very core of understanding psychology. Condescending and rude in her emails. I wish I took another section.
Lectures were irrelevant to the exams and she sometimes goes off track. Really pay attention every detail in the text book because the exams were on the little details more than the big picture. Definitely do the discussions and extra credit.
Do not take this class with her online because no matter how much you study, you won't get the grade you want because most of the questions on her test base on your knowledge and application. Lectures don't even relate to the materials we learn.
I'm 15 credits from graduating and I still haven't taken a class as difficult as this class. 90% of the difficulty is bc she was disorganized and unclear. 1st test included questions from Ch 12 and 13. She dropped that test and rescheduled the test for 3 weeks later - the day after the 2nd exam. Got an A, but had to drop Orgo 1 bc of the time req.
On the tests, you can expect to encounter questions that are based on little insignificant details. The assignments are fair, but no late work is allowed. Slightly unprofessional, but energetic in an off-putting way if you aren't full of energy yourself. She is very responsive to feedback. If you are bothered by typos, you won't want to take her.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER! Worst teacher I've ever had or can imagine having. She doesn't give enough time for exams. If you are struggling with exams, don't bother asking for help. All she will do is say you're studying wrong. Also has one of the worst teaching assistants. Luckily there are smaller assignments to keep you from failiing
This course w/ Dorey has been one of the best of my undergraduate career. Dorey's knowledge of comparative psych & animal behavior is evident in her facilitation of student discussion & readiness to engage. The below comments come as a shock to me after being in her live course, 3 hours weekly. Ask questions, don't procrastinate, do your part, A.
My grandfather was rushed to the emergency room due to a myriad of health complications and she would refuse to work with me when I missed an assignment. She is everything but flexible and her exams are ridiculously timed... 20 minutes for 20 questions. Do not sign up for this professor, you will regret it. Such a stimulating class gone to nothing!
Subject was incredibly interesting, class incredibly frustrating. The tests were poorly written, not at all based on actual lectures or big picture content. You would read maybe 40 pages a chapter to have one insignificant detail be pulled out of it for a question. And there is a 25 minute limit for 20 questions.
Dr. Dorey is super nice, but her (and/or her TA's) grade entirely too hard. There are these automatic graded writing assignments that are impossible to get an A on because they're graded by a freaking computer and all of her assignments just seem like busywork. 10/10 would not recommend, especially if you're just taking this as a gen-ed.
At the beginning, this class was super challenging but after the mid term evaluations, she changed some of the biggest problems with the course. She is super responsive to feedback which is great! The exam reviews really aren't helpful but you get extra credit for logging in. The class in general is really interesting.
So originally I hated the class because it was unreasonably hard, however after midterm evaluations, she changed many of things that made the class unbearable. Out of all my professors, she's been the only one to actually care about feedback from evaluations and to make changes in the semester. Overall, with the changes, the course is pretty good.
The class is an easy A as long as you do all the readings and be thorough on the one assignment she gives for the semester! She's a caring professor and the actual class is extremely interesting.
From the beginning, it was very easy and charming. The discussion posts were the highlight of the course because Dr. Dorey makes them genuinely interesting and it's not a chore to do them. The exams were fine if you read the chapter. She drops lowest exam and discussion grades. The overall grade in my class was an A-. She's a great professor!
Nice teacher. Decent lectures and very easy quizzes if you've read the material. Lots of extra credit as well. If you are interested in psychology and skim the chapters you have to try to not get a high A
I really don't know why people are being so mean on here, I took Dorey my first semester at UF and she didn't bother me at all. Just read and do the assignments and you'll be good. Also, she cares! She is not rude or demanding of her students, will adjust according to mid term evals, AND she sends out cute weekly "round up" videos!
This professor is the worst out of any I've ever had. Her directions for assignments are unclear and her grading is extremely vigorous. I have been an honor roll student through my whole life (including college) and this is the first class I am getting a C in. Would recommend transferring schools before taking this professor. AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!!
I have not made a C since I returned to college and the tests are not applicable to the text, so really you don't have to study because most students google the information, they would have to in order to pass this class. The professor/staff stated to discuss your grades with them but it was pointless-when grading they don't justify scores.
The course consists of weekly discussions, 6 exams, and an assignment. She is super approachable and she really cares about her students. The exams are based on the textbook and additional resources. If you actively study you will do great.
The class was really hard and if you're in the J-School I'd recommend taking something else. Nothing is ever on canvas so you have to use your own planner.
I am surprised to see so many bad reviews on here. Dr. Dorey has always been really nice to me regarding any questions I had about the course. I am currently taking this class through Flexible Learning and its really easy. The Quests are neutral. As long as you outline the chapter, watch the lectures and do the assignments, you should be fine.
Dr. Dorey is the textbook definition of a professor (a faculty member a university); however, she is certainly not a teacher! She is approachableif you like passive aggressive responses; however, she is ridiculously inflexible. Do yourself a favor, find a different teacher for this class, because the material is fascinating but she just ruins it.
Dr. Dorey is a good teacher and it's a simple class. You definitely need to study for the quests but there is no final and no midterm. Very easy discussion posts and 1 actual assignment. Dr. Dorey is super accessible and a good teacher, my 2nd class with her. She listens to her evaluations as well. You have to read the textbook!
Dr. Dorey is the sweetest and most approachable professor I have ever had! She really cares about students and the class is incredibly easy. Just some discussion posts and quizzes. I liked her class so much I became her TA for it the following semester. if you don't like something she reads and adjusts her class according to the mid semester review
Dr. Dorey is a really good professor. She is very helpful in her office hours. You do have to read the textbook for her class because her lectures do not cover a lot of the material but if you read the book you will be fine.
Dr. Dorey's one saving grace is that she adjusted the structure of the class according to the midterm reviews. After said adjustments, the class was a breeze. However, the class prior to the adjustments was almost unbearable. This was due to the strict time constraints set on the exams. Don't take this class for a general elective!
As long as you do the textbook reading and stay on top of the homework, youll be absolutely fine. This was a very straightforward online course. If you have any questions during the course, be sure to go to Professor Doreys office hours. Shes a professor that truly cares about your success. Best of luck!
If you are looking for a gen-ed DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! The TAs for this class grade you the worst possible grades and you can't even see what your grade is on canvas so you're left to guess what your grade is during the duration of the class. I've gotten so many rude comments on my grades and she can't even get my name correct. Highly don't rec.
This course is material heavy but is not too difficult. There are 5 quests (exams) and you only get 35 min to answer 30 questions. Otherwise, the course is pretty easy, just make time for it and do the assignments!
Dorey's TAs can be brutal. Dorey herself has very brief, not helpful lectures and a ton of irrelevant assignments. Buy the Smokin'Notes if you want an easy time, otherwise, be ready to read til your eyes hurt. You get one exam drop so don't bother buying the final study guide, tho. Expect a bad beginning of the semester, but it will get easier.
The class had a few items that were due. It was just weekly discussion posts, 4 exams, and an assignment. Discussion posts and the assignment were basically completion graded and the exams were not proctored. Lowest discussion and exam were dropped. I was not a fan of the organization and lectures, but I just relied on the reviews and book.
Not clear with instructions AT ALL. Seriously, the instructions are like a handout page that is pretty vague. This class is difficult because you are left to figure out most of the training on your own. And your fish better do each task on video by the due date so dont get a shy or slow learning fish! Im a straight A student and Im getting a B
There is decent extra credit offered, but it is more of a self-learning class. The lectures are not helpful in the slightest, so really all knowledge needs to come from the textbook.
The class was one of the most unorganized and chaotic classes I've ever experienced. The syllabus and due dates change like the wind. The contact email and dates also are not accurate to canvas. Then she acts like this is not specific to her class or set up and is a canvas issue which is not true. Takes forever to grade assignments also.
Dr. Dorey makes this class 10x harder than it has to be. The TA's grade extremely harsh and she will not give you points even if you have clear evidence that your responses and submissions were correct. You need almost a 94% to get an A in this class which is absolutely absurd. Do not recommend. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!
The few assignments had nothing to do with actual psych and were mostly about how to cite scientific journals. Easy A if you can follow the directions to a T, but take a different instructor if you want to learn the material and take more advanced psych classes. Undergrad TA's are nitpicky, give crap feedback, and don't really know material.
Don't know about her other classes, but CBH3003 was pretty straightforward, interesting, and easy if you're interested in psychology and actually read the book. It's a solid elective if you're a non-psych major interested in psych too. Would recommend.
I do not recommend this class. Why? Very unorganized curriculum, literally didnt learn anything about psychology in this class and almost all assignments were irrelevant to the course content. Assignments are graded very strictly and a lot of them can be very unclear. Reviews arent helpful and there arent good resources for the exam.
The course was only exams and a couple of assignments. The discussion boards were simple, but didn't really have anything to do with the course.
Dr. Dorey is a solid choice. Very hands off, but she has office hours if you have any questions. The textbook was boring (and her lecture videos werent useful), but you should do well on exams as long as you have a decent understanding of the readings. The assignments & discussion posts were completion grades, just follow directions.
I was worried this class would be hard but I found it to be really easy and straightforward. You do have to study the textbook to do well on the exams. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Dorey was a decent lecturer but mostly I had to rely on the textbook to do well in the class. Some of the assignments felt boring and pointless, but it's really important that you do well on them because a couple of bad grades is the difference between an A and a B, which was my least favorite part of the class.
the worst professor in the psych department. gives absolutely no instructions and grades based on arbitrary formatting criteria (which is never specified) rather than the contents of the submission. the class isn't hard in itself, but figuring out what she wants definitely is. there aren't any lectures, just youtube videos and research articles.
Barely learned a thing thanks to her teaching style and random research assignments. When she asked for feedback, she literally copied and pasted people's feedback and wrote paragraphs about why she did not want to take criticism. The rubrics were frustrating and getting a bad TA was the difference between a good and bad grade. Avoid her.
Exams are really difficult even if you do study the textbook. Lecture videos are also short but gives you the wrong impression of how “quick and easy” the material is. I would suggest finding a different professor unless you want to dedicate all your time to teaching yourself the material.
DO NOT take gen psych w/ her! The hw's are pointless & unrelated to the course. Even after spending a hours on assignments, you may still get a failing grade. There's little room for error to get an A & there is zero extra credit. Her lectures are boring & unhelpful. I am doing well on the exams (quests) with the help of the txbk & smokin notes.
the TA is what matters. I had a fantastic TA and all my learning came from her. Tests aren't honorlocked and you can use notes. Lectures were disorganized and assignments often unrelated. It was unclear what I was supposed to be learning. Not difficult, but not enjoyable or worth it.
Dr. Dorey is nice, but beware! 6 units, each has a discussion, an exam (open note/book). 2 random assignments (so-so), and 2 papers (easy). Offers 1 point extra credit for each exam review. The TA's do the Exam Reviews, and WHEW! they are horrible. I have a 3.92 cumulative GPA and graduating, so pay attention. Get another prof if possible.
This was such a miserable class to take. The course is structured super weirdly so that students are super lost for the first few weeks. Assignments are ambiguous and sometimes hard to find, grading criteria is insanely strict and oftentimes has nothing to do with psychology, and Prof. Dorey seemed to be unreasonably strict and unapproachable.
This class is practically run by the TA's. In my opinion, Dorey's lectures were useless and never helped with any of the exams. 99% of exam content comes from the textbook so you have to get it and you have to read it to do well! This class really isn't that hard as long as you stay on top of discussion posts and exams days (there are 6)
Honestly don't understand why everyone is hating on her. The class was easy and she was always nice. I read ~ 30 pages total out of the entire textbook and just watched the lectures and still got an A. There are open-note timed exams every 2 weeks, but just review lecture materials and you'll be fine. I'm bad at bio, but this was easy even for me.
I found this class pretty easy, tests are all online and not proctored. Her online lectures were funny and interesting but I'd read the textbook anyways if you're into psychology because there's a lot of topics she doesn't really go into detail on.
I'm gonna be honest, I never watched a single lecture. There are no exams in this class, it's just quests (quiz + test) that are 100% googleable. The TA's run the test, I have never interacted with the professor once. The writing assignments are completely unrelated to the course and just require some research skills. Free class.
Professor doesn't care about students and the time we spend on assignments. There is zero wiggle room for anything, will not hesitate to give failing grades on 4-5 page long assignments that take hours.
Dr. Dorey is incredibly kind and funny. As long as you watch the lectures and take notes during the TA reviews, you will receive a good grade. I did not read the textbook frequently.
Dude what. I'm currently in her CBH course and it's impossible to complete exams properly. She gives us the opportunity to use notes/open book but what good is it if the questions are vague and you have 25 minutes to run through 20 questions? TA's run the exam reviews and they're not relatable. 3.8 student, might have to withdraw. Don't recommend.
I took this class online, so there was not much interaction with Dr. Dorey. Everything was clear, but some of the assignments were toughly graded. I barely slid by with an A, and I feel like I put a lot of time into this course. Quizzes are open note but there's limited time for the amount of questions, so you have to know all of the information.
Easiest class I've ever taken. The assignments are simple and there aren't too many. Frequent discussion posts but they're very simple. Just keep track of when assignments are due and you will be fine.
Dr. Dorey was a kind professor who I felt graded quite fairly and timely. She does these weekly check-in videos that are kind of sweet. Just read the textbook well and do all the quizzes as they prepare you for the exams (same questions a lot of the time). Not sure why other people in the same class had trouble, it's a pretty easy A.
Honestly, she's a pretty great teacher, and I would take her again. She's pretty straightforward with the material, and as long as you turn everything in on time, you'll be okay. The material is also not difficult at all.
No clear instructions for assignments. No lecture videos and the only thing you learn from is the textbook. Most exam questions are super specific to the textbook so it is difficult to know answers even though exams are open note and open book. Be wary before taking this course with Dorey.
Doesn't contribute to the quality of the course at all. All "lectures" are links to ~15 YouTube videos per module and the rest of the content is just the textbook. In the last 2 weeks, you have to read 3 chapters per week. She is also unwilling to work with students during extenuating circumstances that don't PERFECTLY fit UF guidelines. No empathy
Dr. Dorey simply has little involvement in the class. The materials are all textbook chapters, podcasts, and Youtube videos. The tests ask about the tiniest footnotes in the book. I didn't have the worst time, but she was super insensitive and unaccommodating to myself and others who were dealing with medical/family emergencies.
