Great study guides, clear expectations, and offers extra credit. Only problem is communication. When you approach her with questions, she responds in a very condescending way. The way she grades tests makes it easy to get a B/C but hard to get an A since every question is worth 4 points. Definately not the best, but not the worst either.
I loved Nicole's Chem 1020 class. She was super organized with lots of practice worksheets and extra credit available. She also teaches in a way that makes the material super easy to understand. I used to hate Chemistry, now it's my favorite class because of Nicole.
Don't get me wrong if you pay attention you can do it, but her rules are extremely strict, if you arrive late on a snowy day for an exam, you get ZERO extra time, its scan tron tests and her test material seems to be non related to what we just learned. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
It's easy to get a B or C, but it's difficult to get an A.
It is difficult to get an A. This stems from the amount of time given for the exam. It's regular class time - 50 mins, questions are worth 4- 5 points each, meaning that the moment you get 2 wrong, you are out of the A range. Chemistry is a difficult subject and so having 2 minutes per question, where some are extremely difficult is unfair
Nicole's lectures are ok, but if you're stuck don't expect much help. She says she's there for her students but it's impossible to get ahold of her outside of class. Very strict, super hard, moves too fast through material, major work load so don't expect to spend time on any other class but her's if you want to pass. If you miss 2 labs you fail!
Her tests are very hard and her grading method is unpredictable. I would not take another class with her and wouldn't recommend her to anyone. I had a tutor and learned from her more than the professor.
Ignore previous posts!! She used to give extra credit but doesn't anymore. Pop quizzes are given at almost every lecture. Impossible to get an A so don't even try. I am an A student with a 4.0 GPA and didn't do well with her. It's as if she tries to fail everyone. Dropped a full letter grade on exam because I forgot to initial first page of rules.
Nicole's a tough professor. She's very condescending. She does NOT work with students, even during extenuating circumstances, so you're screwed if you're forced to miss an exam due to an emergency. She offers NO extra credit anymore, and she grades exams very unfairly. Even if you do A work, she'll make sure you will never get an A. DON"T TAKE HER!
One of the best teachers I've ever had! If you are looking an easy A, you won't find it here. But if want to learn chemistry, take this professor. The labs can be a bit tricky, but are usually fun.
Youll never be excused even a min before class is supposed to end, she uses every second. And if she sees she only has 5 min left of class, she crams everything in & talks fast which confuses me even more! You can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches, but she is tough. I got a low B even tho I tried harder here than any other class.
I'm not even going to lie, I learned way more from the textbook than from this professor. She can be pretty condescending, and I've seen her ignore other students when they raise their hand often. Several students withdrew from this course to avoid getting a failing grade. In other words: take someone else. Do your GPA a huge favor.
Worst professor I have ever had. I'm in school currently for teaching and couldn't believe how unclear she was all semester. Every morning she would jump into a new topic and zoom past things that were later a bug deal. It was so hard to talk to her about anything because she was MIA during her office hours. In lab she was snappy and unhelpful.
Worst decision in my life. The worst professor ever. She is very rude and does not know how to teach to save her life ..
Nicole is a teacher that expects a lot from her students. I took her chem 1020 class and it was the hardest class I have taken in my entire life. I studied 3-4 hours a day 20+ hours a week. I am an A student and I ended up with a D. If Nicole was a good teacher I should have passed and understood the material well. I would not recommend her.
toughest teacher in chemistry department, hard to get A or B and never give you what you disserve to get. her grading so unfair and treat student differently. she never answer your question and 0 help. if looking good GPA go another teacher. I am A student but hardly got C in this class. please don't even try to take her class.
Nicole's 1020 isn't easy, but she makes her expectations 100% clear from Day 1. She is strict, but at least she doesn't play favorites. Go to as many review sessions as you can; 1020 is a HUGE class, so she can't do one on one help during lecture, but she will in the CLC and review sessions. Do the practice problems. Study or fail.
Nicole is a teacher that knows her stuff, without question, just doesn't always teach it to the capacity. There can be hiccups or confusion with some of the material, but she almost always explains it well enough and knows how to teach to an extent. Only annoyance was the amount of work. The class is set that easily shows it is 5 credits.
Pick anyone else. Abandon hope if you take this class. If you do attend. Get help at every opportunity.
Terrible teacher. Would not recommend. If you do anything right, DO NOT take from her. She is unwilling to help period. I'm a straight A student and struggled to pass.
Nicole was a very difficult professor. I had to take this class for my major, and did not enjoy it at all. It was very hard to connect to the subject. Nicole was a good person, but was not flexible at all. It was really hard to reach her outside of class, and she never allowed ANY make-ups. There was no time for practice either. She did it all.
Waste of time, I took the same class at a real college (not some silly community highschool 2.0) and it was easier and better. The instructor treats you like a 1st grader. She fakes being nice, but her harsh attendance policy and condescending attitude say otherwise.
Honestly lecture wasn't that bad with her, she didn't have slideshows she wrote notes on the board which I think helps. She really does engage with students and wants to memorize each of their names. She's a tough grader though. If you don't go to class you will fail and fall very behind on the chapters. I highly suggest reading the textbook.
Nicole is a very straightforward teacher. Her tests are a little difficult because her multiple choice are weighted more than short answer and free response. But if you work hard and study, you will do fine.
Exams are super hard. They are completely different from the examples she teaches in class. She knows her stuff but not good at explaining it to the class.
Lectures are useless, textbooks are going to be your best friend in this class.
Make sure to go to class as she does a lot of examples. Very approachable and willing to help. Gives clear definitions and grading criteria. Not a "gimme" class but not difficult if you show up and do the work.
Nicole is a very sweet person but her class was ridiculously hard. She goes over a few examples in class but they're nothing like what is on the test. She's knows Chemistry inside and out but it's hard to connect to and know how to study. Only take this class if you've got a serious affinity for science and are ready to make it your priority.
She has a clear, concise syllabus and class schedule that she sticks to. She tells you everything you need to know, but usually only once. Has high standards, but if you do the homework, you'll be good.
Great professor. Very concise and clear, but make sure to be on time every day or she will not like you instantly. Has a stricter side, but answers every question completely. The course itself is very easy, just make sure you do all of the homework. She grades fairly strict, everything has to be correct to get the points.
She gives pretty decent lectures but as a professor is overall is one of the worst I have had. She has super strict rules in the classroom that will make you feel like your back in middle school. For some reason she doesn't allow laptops in the class and if you take one out she will stop mid sentence to call you out in front of the class.
Nicole is very friendly and is always willing to help you if you struggle. She is approachable and loves when students ask questions. Great professor!
She's a good teacher, she's funny. But she is a tough grader. She's an approachable person to ask questions to, especially in the lab. Just make sure to study outside class cause the quizzes are tough.
She is nice but her quizzes and exams are not nice at all. You have to study a lot if you want an A in this class. But it is clear that she is a good and kind instructor.
Nice instructor but also a tough grader.
What a nice Professor. I took CHEM1020 with her and the course went very well. If you want to get straight A for all her quizzes and exams, make sure you have a serious attitude towards this class. One more thing, the more you practice, the easier it is for you on the tests.
She knows a lot, her sappling grading could be refined, overall it was pretty easy. I didn't read every section and took a week vacation half way though. was able to access her via e-mail easily. i didn't have to put much work in to pass with a B.
She is a good professor even though she may appear very strict at first. My suggestion for any students who want to go further in Chemistry, take this class because Nicole will make you work hard to get an A. It is good for you since you will also have to learn many things later.
Getting an A in this class would not be so hard if you're an arduous student.
Nicole is a great instructor but a bit snooty at times. She encourages questions and for people to come to her but can be a little stand offish when you do. There are quizzes every week, have to do a lot of reading, practice and study outside of class to pass.
Nicole was a wonderful teacher especially for introductory chemistry. She would fully explain every little detail which was extremely helpful. I don't understand why everyone thinks she was so hard, her quizzes were fairly easy and tests were the same. Hardly any homework besides sapling. Also don't try to do bare minimum, she has decent expectatio
Nicole writes all her notes, which is very helpful. She wants to see her students succeed. She drops the lowest homework and quiz grades, and provides extra credit options throughout the semester. She is very willing to help during her office hours too. This is a difficult, face-paced class. She is a little goofy, and has a big personality.
Chemistry doesn't come natural to anyone I would say, it is something YOU need to work at and practice. Bothe courses were challenging for me and I worked HARD to get A's in both semesters. She is very clear on expectations, she never writes problems that are meant to trick you, and gives practice that is very helpful for the tests. Fav. professor.
Nicole is a great person, but not a great instructor. Her teaching style is very old school - copy down what she is writing. She was strict when it wasn't warranted and lenient when she shouldn't have been. Overall very inconsistent. Tests are 70% of your grade, and the hours upon hours you spend on homework is only 10%. Steer clear for 1061.
Nicole was a very sweet professor. However, it felt like middle school/high school all over again. No laptop use, tons of quizzes, and questions on the tests that don't relate to any homework or quiz we had taken before. Hard class, but I enjoyed the rigorous work. Definitely be ready to put time in, especially if science is hard for you (me too).
I like that the expectations in this class are very clear and you know what you need to do to be successful. I overall really like her as an instructor, and support most of her strict expectations, but wish she was a bit more approachable when asking questions. But I get that she wants to make sure you've done your own work before she answers Qs
Nicole was one of the best profs I've had, and I've had a lot. She had pre and post labs, as well as pre lecture mini quizzes that were helpful in understanding the material. She did review sessions and posted the notes on D2L before every exam, which was xtremely helpful. She wants you to succeed and is very supportive.
does not clearly explain course material. everyone in class did not know what they were doing. I took the course again with a different teacher and passed with all A's when in gingery's class i was getting c's and lower.
Avoid this professor if you can. She doesnt care about the students. I understand this class is supposed to be hard but her teaching style makes it even more harder. You cant use any electronic in class and she keeps repeating the rules like were children.
She has SET zoom meetings for ONLINE classes but does not tell you when they are until the class starts. Then if you have work or are already busy (and can't change your work schedule) she DOES NOT let you makeup the exams and expects you to take them. She is very unorganized and no hand out of when things were due. You had to search for due dates
I took her Chem 1050 course Spring 2020. She graded very hard. She seemed to care about her students but when we went online she made things so hard still. Her notes were okay. She did hand written notes in class and online. Her tests were pretty hard as well, I passed from assignments and lab grades. Overall, a really tough course and professor.
Take Chem with literally any other professor!! Nicole is the worst professor I have ever had at Normandale! She never fully answers questions and just tells you to refer to your notes, the textbook, or the syllabus. She is nice but VERY lazy! I had no idea what my grade was after the final because she only calculates very rough grades.
Please listen to me carefully. This class is VERY doable. Nicole is sweet & truly listens to her students. Attend office hours & ask for help! Her pre-class quizzes, hw, labs and tests are all fair. Use quizlet for the terms on workbook pages & constantly re-do the practice problems on there as well. If I could do it, you can bro. Good luck.
she is horrible at answering your questions. She likes to see student struggle. Her 3 -credit class makes you work like you are in 5-credit class.
Do not take this professor. Avoid her as much as you can. She doesn't care about students and doesn't know how to sympathize even though their is a pandemic. You can't use a phone or laptop in her class and you can't be late. Acts more like a high school teacher because of all her rules.
I think her class is doable. If you do the assignments on time, you should not have a problem with this class. She lets you use your notes for everything which is very helpful. I think sometimes she can give us more resources to help us study, but overall, she is the best chem professor/ teacher I have taken in high school and college combined.
did an online class with her. Was afraid because of the reviews here. But actually, she is not as bad as I thought. Her subject is really hard but the teacher doesnt have to get all the hate comments for it. It is doable. I like the notes but it is tiring sometimes. Lots of labs, quizzes! Study hard because all exams and quizzes are monitored!
I'm shocked there's bad ratings of her. I can understand, she has either a quiz or exam due each week, along with a lab and 3 days of homework. However, it's a 5 credit class, and it will require a commitment. The construction and design of class is perfect, it keeps you in line and on schedule amazingly well for an online class.
Homework every week. Quizzes every Monday. Exams every 2 subjects. Expects you to KNOW everything in class. ROUGH GRADER. Forget to include something F, doesn't even care how long you took. Rushes in lecture videos and expects you to know everything already. Uses old lecture videos and test which doesn't match with book. Overall bad professor.
I cant believe Nicole has bad reviews! She is by FAR the BEST professor Ive ever had at normandale! She cares so much about her students, and is always ready to help! The tests and quizzes are proctored, BUT you are allowed to use your course workbook and notes on them. I wish that she taught more classes that I need! You should take her class!!!
I was not a fan of her online chem 1050 class. The online textbook was very dense and difficult to get through and the note guide you fill out from the reading is pointless and will not help you on a test. Her lecture videos are awful and the tests are extremely difficult and they are all proctored. TESTS ARE NOT ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE!
Really hard. Not empathetic but was helpful. There is close to zero flexibility. Material is basically self-taught.
She is not sympathetic or caring in the slightest, controlling- telling you to memorize or go back and review when there is absolutely no point. Her quizzes and exams are hardly related to the material. The textbook is terrible to read. Barely teaches anything in lecture and expects to know everything. WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!
Terrible terrible teacher. Very unflexible. Feels like you are in a prison handing in a million things a week, no feedback given EVER (unless it's to study more) and impossible work. She does not teach and expects you to know everything for tests and exams that have questions who knows where they fell from. Tons of work and hard labs- worst class.
I had learned most of Chem 1062's content in AP Chemistry but I didn't understand any of it until I took Nicole's class. A very caring and understanding teacher and has a huge arsenal of teaching styles to help nearly anyone understand. Easily the best teacher I have ever had.
Please save yourself the time and stress by not registering for her class. There are plenty of other professors out there who can do a way better job at teaching the material than Nicole. She does a horrible job at explaining things and expects you to refer back to the poorly written notes she posts or to ask another classmate. Waste of time.
She knows chemistry for sure, however she is so disorganized with the material provided. The amount of homework is huge + you need to do the textbook assignments on top of that, and it still not clear if its graded or not. The was no structure with the lectures, labs, homework, quizzes. She gives you good feedback tho and easy to talk to.
Overall i'd say she wasn't an awful professor, but the more difficult parts of units involving math or numbers etc. wasn't taught very well, and some concepts she expected you to grasp. Fairly understanding as a teacher, accesible outside of class, but doesn't really answer questions. Some lectures were long and boring, heavy homework load too.
She creates pre-class quizzes & pre-lab quizzes that help you understand the units. She is organized and makes amazing lecture videos that actually make sense. The labs are partner labs, so you'll definitely have good grades on those. At first, it's going to be hard to keep up but after a few weeks you will get used to it and you won't regret it!
Although there are many lecture videos, she does a great job keeping them relatively short per video. Exams are open note BUT you have to reduce your notes to two pieces of paper which can be time-consuming for larger exams. Overall the course isn't awfully hard as long as you understand the material from your prerequisite chemistry course.
She's nice but is not understanding if you have late assignments. Lots of homework every week, and lab/group work is required. No way to make up group work if you're gone. If you don't understand something it is very hard to get help. Note sheets allowed on tests.
Barely able to get through the material, did not give concepts behind what we were learning, did not accommodate different learning styles, wants to micro-manage students, it was her way or the highway, felt like a nagging parent, she was very passive-aggressive in the hundreds of emails she sent over the semester and that is how she was in class.
Slack off in class you will not catch up.There is lots of HW, lecture heavy(but good lectures), extra credit for each chap. Helps you learn the material, each chapter has an exam (easy to understand material and not get confused like with 4 big exams).will not work with you for late assignments. Office hours via zoom for help is better than email.
This was my favorite Chem class I've ever taken. Chem was always hard for me, so taking biochem got me scared. I thought that Nicole's class was structured for students that tend to work on their own pace, yet still have deadlines so they don't procrastinate. Her pre- and post quizzes help you study for the exam, and you get them every week.
I really enjoyed chemistry with her. Her lectures are very good. She gives a lot of examples. She cares about the success of her students. Make sure you understand her lectures, and everything else will be easy.
Need to spend 2 to 3 hrs on her class and practice matters.
The content is easy - Nicole is unpleasant. She teaches unstructured lessons by handwriting notes and insists everyone copy everything down. Expect 6-8h of tedious online homework a week Phones/laptops are not allowed - she will call you out. She practically begs everyone to pay attention to her at all times, clearly has control/self esteem issues
Nicole is outwardly very friendly, but quite neurotic. Craves love/ attention. No resources posted online, so must attend lecture, which is copying down her hand written notes the entire time. Class is prison like. No phones/ headphones/ computers etc. Lectures are disorganized; she disjointedly jumps between topics. ~5hrs HW/week forces learning.
If u have the opportunity to choose another chem teacher, do it. So close to getting a grade above but she does not care at all. Her lectures are so boring, the exam questions are intentionally harder, trying to make you fail. If you do take it, good luck. I'll forever regret this. If you see any good reviews, I get the feeling she's making them.
Mrs. Gingery has a very classical style of teaching, mostly lectures with a ton of homework. Very strict and demands respect.
Nicole is very difficult to work with and does not like to explain how you did things wrong or email back. I would never take a class with her again. Very hard grader and doesn't want to help other then telling you to go reread it until you understand information.
The lectures consinsted of hand written notes that were very fast paced, and hard to follow. The textbook is also fairly awful. She is STRICT on deadlines, show up to lab 6 minuets late, you won't be allowed in. This class is alot of work, but the concepts aren't as hard as she makes them out to be. If you put in effort, you'll do well.
Like everyone else said, show up 2 minutes late to lab, you will 1000000% not be let in. She is lenient with grading exams since she sees how you did it, and gives lots of half points. No resources online. Go to lecture or be forever confused. Condescending to students which always made me uncomfortable. Too many exams. Too much homework. POP quiz.
Disorganized class structure, Lots of homework, lots of lecture videos. Is not very understanding when it comes to outside circumstances. If you have other responsibilities while taking this class, you'll get an average grade. Not everyone can put 20 or more hours a week into one class.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever met. She consistently and constantly creates quarrels with her own students. There was somebody in my class who was hospitalized, and she would not even reschedule their final because it violated the syllabus. Also, she cannot teach. She constantly messes up during lecture and acts like she's right.
While taking this course, I had a lot of other STEM heavy courses harder than general chemistry. Yet, in all those courses the professors were much better at teaching and grading than Nicole was. She would make sure you never got a 100% on anything, by nit picking your grade. She doesn't want her student to succeed and its very apparent.
It's very disappointing to pay money and only get her one bad in-person class. You should not sign up for this class. This is honest advice. She always complains if you're 10 minutes late to the lecture and makes you sign a paper agreeing to follow all her policies.
Decent professor, kind of a terrible person. Heavy workload but if you do the work and pay attention you'll do well. DOES NOT give out makeup exams or quizzes and doesn't make exception. Seems to care more about control in the class than the students.
Trust me, choose a different chemistry professor. She is definitely knowledgeable in chemistry, but expects her students to also be masters after one or two lectures in chemistry. If you do take this class with her, don't expect to have time for any other classes. Her lectures alone are over 10 hours a week and mandatory.
STAY FAR AWAY! Chem is easy but Nichole makes the class difficult. Choose another professor if you have the choice. You will not get a good grade with other responsibilities outside of this class. Expect 5-10hrs of mandatory lectures and 5+ hours of tedious online HW. Professor is very passive aggressive 4 exams+ final and lab final.
material was easy to understand (no thanks to her) spent most of my time studying without her material. hand writes it all so missed class=no notes. pop quizzes all throughout (always gives 100% for participation) exams are easy. labs are annoying. she is rude to students asking questions. condescending. would not take ever but better than others
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Please Please PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS I ONLY TOOK IT BECAUSE OF MY TIGHT SCHEDULE ITS WAY TOO OVERWHELMING ITS AS IF WE DO NOT HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF THIS CLASS IF YOU SEE THIS TRUST ME AND MY PREDECESSORS WHO HAVE LEFT THE SAME MESSAGES AND IF YOU SOMEHOW DO (why would You)TAKE I HOPE YOU DO THE SAME AS I AND PASS IT ON(WARNED)
Thoroughly convinced if I missed lab cause my arm got ripped off in the parking lot due to some freak accident, Nicole would tell me I gotta do a make up lab.
IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS
DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID THINKING THE RATINGS WERE JUST HARSH PROFFER GINGERY IS THE WORST. CONENT IS EASY PROFESSOR GINGERY ISNT. PROFESSOR GINGERY IS CRUEL, COLD AND CONSIDERABLY RUDE WHEN U ASK FOR HELP. CHOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! U WILL NOT GET A GOOD GRADE UNLESS YOU HAVE 20+ HOURS TO SPARE ON CHEM IDK WHY SHE HASN'T BEEN FIRED.
Worst teacher I've ever had to deal with. She'd say one thing and then instantly change her mind without informing anyone. Her lecture videos are horrible as well because you can't skip around in them and they're in 240p so it's basically impossible to see on an average monitor.
I feel awful for anyone unfortunate enough to end up in her class. She clearly has favorites in the class and she will kill your grade if you're not apart of that esteemed group.
I could not think of anything that I've hated doing more than watching her lecture videos
Words cannot describe how difficult this class is. Nicole will tell you to focus on one thing and when you get the exam, that concept will be one footnote
Her lecture videos bring me genuine pain. She sounds very condescending and passive aggressive in them whilst writing at the speed of light. The textbook isn't much better as it is super dense. Don't make the mistake I did and take her class.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE NO CHOICE IT IS NOT WORTH IT AND IF YOU DO HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS I 🙏 FOR U.
Nicole comes off as nice, but she is very harsh when it comes to grading. I would definitely not take this class on everyone soul. 10+ hrs of work for this class and if you show up late to labs you can't participate even if you show up like 5 minutes. You can retake an exam though and the final replaces lowest exam. C is a guarantee in the class.
So so hard. Hw takes forever!!! Expect 5+ hrs of Hw every week. Lectures are awful no notes super confusing skips steps has no clue what she's talking about and handwriting is very illegible. Mandatory lectures can't skip very old school writes on a piece of paper. Professor is very lazy!!! Expect 4-5 hrs of mandatory lectures every week.
A dictatorial classroom where you must accept her rules. She criticized the grades, saying that if you don't spend more than 13 hours, you'll only get a C. She announced this to the class. If you use any electronic devices, she will tell you to switch to a hybrid class.
Expects us to spend 2-3+ hrs a day when it seems like she couldn't give a sh*t about the course. Inconsistent amount of reading/hw each week. Used youtube lectures from someone else most of the semester. Study guides didn't include everything we got tested on. Cumulative final. I could type a novel about how horribly organized the course was.
Oh my… Just…NO
Pls for your own good DON'T TAKE
She forces us to learn her way which holds us back She's way too harsh Shes just cruel I'm telling you not to take it and I mean it
It's rough
Insufferable Way too strict vids are forced to watch She wastes sooooo much paper in her videos like I'm not exaggerating
Sometimes I really wonder why she decided to become a teacher
The lectures were dry and felt like a chore to sit through. Nothing interesting about the way the material was taught. And the homework there's a lot and the website for the it sucks. It was difficult to answer questions on there What made it worse was how rigid the professor was. We were forced to learn everything her way, even if it didn't work
Overall, the class felt like it was designed to make learning harder, not easier. Would not recommend unless you enjoy memorising slides and being micromanaged.
The average class grade was a 73% (70% is passing btw) so you can imagine how great of a teacher she is
Would rather drive into a brick wall than subject myself to another minute of a class with her.
She genuinely killed any interest I ever had in chemistry through her dictatorial teaching style.
A person with no formal education could teach this course better than her
This is the worst class I have ever taken.
I USED TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEATBELT ON MY WAY TO CLASS HOPING SOMETHING BAD WOULD HAPPEN TO ME.
She will turn into the gestapo if she sees you learning in a way different from her teaching style.
Actively hinders your success
She runs her class like we're all middle schoolers
Nicole will make sure that you have no free time to do anything (even other classes).
Clearly it's the teachers fault and not the students when almost half of the class couldn't earn a C or higher and ended with Ds and Fs
HW takes around 5 hours a week but only accounts for around 10% of your grade. Meanwhile tests are worth 40% of your grade and you only get 50 minutes per test.
This is the only D I've ever gotten in my academic career. That should tell you how awful Nicole is as a professor.
MAKES CLASS WAY MORE DIFFICULT THAN IT IS
Avoid if you wanna be successful in chemistry
I really really wonder why she thought teaching would be a good job for her.
Nicole was nice, helpful and approachable online and in-person. The class itself, however, was quite disorganized, and a majority of the video lectures were created by another professor. I also think the textbook was way too dense to read and comprehend within a reasonable timeframe. She did allow 2 note sheets for the final, which was a lifesaver.
Would rather commit hate crimes than take ts again
I really hope I never have to take this professor ever again or ever see her again on my life
Of all the possible teachers how on gods green earth did I end up with the worst possible one.
Why why why why why why me????? What did I do to deserve this????????
If your reading this it's too late if your signed up for the class currently drop immediately and look for a different teacher even if you have to wait a semester or have to take this class in the summer trust me
P.S if you're reading this rn it's too late
Wasted hours of my life only on homework only to find out it was 10 percent of my total grade
She like Kanye after he melted down on twitter
You could miss an exam with a legitimate emergency and Nicole would tell you to take the retake
Workload is ridiculous. 5-10hrs of lecture can't skip 5-10 hrs of HW must watch lecture vids to open HW. Required weekly problem sets. Reading textbook is required. Must hand write lab procedure to do lab.Pre lab quiz too. As well as in person quiz Professor expects you not to have a life outside of this class. 55% is considered a D but 70% is a C!
Professor loves to over explain things and complicate things on her vids. She loves to force u to learn her way (HER WAY DONT WORK FOR MOST PPL)!!! she makes concepts way harder than they are. I stopped watching her vids and using the textbook and organic chem tutor after not doing so well on first exam. Next exam I got A and ended with A.
Pray pray and pray 🙏 if u have her
If the class average is a 73% and 70% is passing, there is no way that it isn't the professors fault
Nicole lies very frequently, for example: she claimed we would receive important equations for the lab final (we didn't get anything other than PV=nRT)
Her videos are unbearable to watch and they are the lowest quality possible (both in the sense of content and the actual video quality). SHE WILL MAKE YOU HATE CHEMISTRY
4 exams + final exam and lab final 6 total exams!!! Lab every week quiz every week as well as about 8-10 HW assignments a week YOU DID NOT READ THAT WRONG pre lab quiz too and 5 hrs of lecture! Work is way too much about 15hrs of work a week . So manny exams but professor dosent let u see your exams or hand em back so u don't know what u got wrong.
Nichole is very rude especially when u ask for help she seems frustrated and often sighs really loud when u ask questions. She seems as if she dosent wanna help at all and often times won't answer questions and will yell at u or won't answer. Or she will tell u to go back and reread till u understand. Nichole also lies a lot about deadlines etc.
Nichole is awesome! As long as you try you will do well!! I don't know why their are so manny bad ratings on here
My favorite teacher here at Normandale I wish she was teaching 1062 this fall!!!!
If she is available take it you will not regret it
There's a very good reason that all of the other chem classes are full, and nicholes aren't. She is by far the toughest grader i have had. Unless you're ready to drop 20+ hours a week, you'll be lucky to get a c
You're gonna be absolutely miserable the entire semester if you take this class with Nicole
You'll get more value from burning your tuition money than you will by taking this class
You'll get locked out if you show up to lab even a minute late
Even a masochist wouldn't take this class with her again.
Nichole will straight up lie about deadlines and what will be provided on tests.
Nichole hated me bc I couldn't do good on her tests that were meant to make u fail
Nichole is the best chem teacher I've ever had. Lectures are really good quizzes are completion labs are not that bad exams are really easy and she lets you use a note sheet front and back would totally recommend she's really kind and sweet
Nichole is really chill and really wants you to do well her videos are really good she's also hilarious I'm still laughing at some of her jokes!!!
I did the math and roughly 75% of the class got a C, D, or F in gingery's class. The math also indicated that only 2 people managed to get an A out of a class of 44. THATS 4% OF THE CLASS RECEIVING AN A.
u know things are bad in her class when the average scores of her exams are: 72%, 65%, 68%, and 73%. nichole would tell us to study more on top of the 20 hrs per week she already expected. THOSE ARE THE FINAL GRADES (SHE DOESNT CURVE THEM AT ALL).
nichole did not provide the class with a professor evaluation at the end of the semester, which is odd since all of my other teachers did. I wonder why considering the final email she sent the class included the final average grade which was 73.8%, which is absolutely abysmal. I regret taking Nichole's class as it has done irreparable damage.
Nichole is the best teacher I've ever had any comment that says she's bad is wrong idk why she has so manny bad reviews
Nichole's classes are designed to make you fail and will ensure that your GPA will plummet.
Clearly it's the teachers fault and not the students when almost 50% of the class couldn't earn a C or higher and ended with Ds and Fs
So manny exams but prof dosent let u see your exams or hand em back so u don't know what u got wrong.
Anyone who says gingery isn't good is a liar! If you didn't do good it was your fault Nichole gave every resource possible to succeed as well as a exam retake final replaces lowest exam also and tons of extra credit
Clearly it's the teachers fault and not the students when almost half of the class couldn't earn a C or higher and ended with Ds and Fs. It's also crazy how each test was worth around 10% of your total grade and we got 50 minutes to do the test.
If only we got a student evaluation at the end of the year. Nichole runs the classroom in a similar fashion to how Stalin ran the USSR, she makes every moment in the class absolutely miserable
Nichole will withhold crucial information regarding what is and isnt provided during summatives. This makes passing her exams near impossible no matter how good your 1 note sheet and prep is. The tests are diabolically difficult. Nichole would also send out the class averages once all were graded and all were sub 75%.
Nichole is very kind and genuinely cares about her students outside of class. She constantly checks up on their students and is very easy to work with. She will go out of her way to help her students when they are struggling she even stays after class to help her students.
The lectures were absolutely dry and felt like a chore to sit through. Nothing interesting about the way the material was taught. And the homework there's a lot and the website for the it sucks. What made it worse was how rigid the professor was. We were forced to learn everything her way, even if it didn't work
You'll get more value from gambling your tuition money than you will by taking this class
Stop listening to these lies and exaggerations Nichole is awesome
If the class average is a 73% and 70% is passing, there is no way that it isn't the professors fault. The numbers don't lie. Your GPA will tank if you take this class
She forces us to learn her way which holds us back She's way too harsh She's just cruel I'm telling you not to take it and I mean it.
if it wasn't for organic chemistry tutor, I would've failed. her lectures are awful since she doesn't let you use any technology for note taking. I've been in middle school classes that are less regressive.
You could miss an exam with a legitimate emergency and Nicole would tell you to take the retake.
Nichole is so sweet!! She's genuinely the nicest person I've ever met and it's quite obvious she wants you to succeed. She gives extra credit allows you to retake an exam and replaces lowest exam with final exam score and allows you to use note sheets on exam as well as gives formula sheets and allows you to write whatever you want on it.
HW takes around 10-15 hours a week but only accounts for around 10% of your grade. Meanwhile tests are worth 40% of your grade and you only get 50 minutes per test.
Clearly it's the teachers fault and not the students when almost half of the class couldn't earn a C or higher and ended with Ds and Fs. The tests are so difficult that even if nichole let you use google, you would still barely get 60%
NICHOLE IS AWSOME!!! I ❤️ THIS TEACHER!
nichole did not provide the class with a professor evaluation at the end of the semester, which is odd since all of my other teachers did. I wonder why considering the final email she sent the class included the final average grade which was 73.8%, which is absolutely abysmal. I regret taking her class as it has done irreparable damage to my gpa.
It's appalling how bad of a teacher Nicole is.
Nichole is so bad just hope u don't have to take her
Nichole will try her best to make sure you don't get a good grade in her class
I honesty believe I would be better off just buying the hard copy of the textbook skipping all of her lectures and only showing up for labs and exams and quizzes and teaching myself
Nichole really knows chemistry but I don't think teaching is a good job for her maybe she should do research etc
If you take her just know that you will not have a life outside of this class especially if your striving for an or higher
I am convinced that Nichole wants you to fail
Professor loves to over explain things and complicate things on her vids. She loves to force u to learn her way (HER WAY DONT WORK FOR MOST PPL)!!! she makes concepts way harder than they are. I stopped watching her vids and using the textbook and organic chem tutor after not doing so well on first exam. Next exam I got A and ended with A.
Just whatever you do hope you don't end up with this teacher
We had about 44ppl in this class the average final grade was a 73% if you do the math almost 80% of the class received a grade of a C D or F. That should tell you how great of a teacher Nichole is
Nichole's classes are designed to make you fail and will ensure that your GPA will drop. Nicole has made this the toughest class I have ever had the displeasure of taking.
u know things are bad in her class when the average scores of her exams are: 72%, 65%, 68%, and 73%. nichole would tell us to study more on top of the 20 hrs per week she already expected. THOSE ARE THE FINAL GRADES. IDK WHY SHE DOESNT CURVE GRADES IF THE AVERAGES ARE SOOOO LOW
its absolutely wild that most people that took a class with nicole, struggled greatly. Its almost as if the 20-30 hrs per week on this class was worth 10% of your total grade. (most people have other tough classes)
So so stupid I have to retake this class again I ended with a 69% but Nichole wouldn't round me to a 70% C which is the pre req for chem 2 the average grade was a 73% idk why she didn't round grades Nichole simply didn't care. She made this class very difficult taking this along with physics and calc I was spending by far all my time on this class.
Nichole is the Worst professor I've ever had in my life. I knew how to do every single question on the review and study guide and for 95% on the practice test and I still did bad on the exams. I would go to office hours and Nichole would tell me u will be fine don't panic… she lies constantly she says it'll get easier… but each exam got harder.
If only I could've had her husband David gingery
If Nicole's class is the only one available, then it's better to just wait and take this class next semester with someone else who isn't as miserable.
You'll get more value from putting all of your tuition money on red than you will by taking this class
Nichole lies often whatever she says assume the opposite she says something will be given on exam and it will not be given or 2 study this for exam and u will be fine and will test on complete opposite She also says there are no dumb questions it's normal 2 have questions every time u ask question she will yell at u and is often times very rude.
Nichole will do everything in her power to ensure you struggle. Once you think you're finally understating the concepts she will find a way to make sure you aren't. By adding ridiculous amounts of HW and over explaining things to make it really confusing. It is quite evident she dosne't want her students to succeed
I really wonder why Nichole thought this would be a good job for her she is knowledge in chem but def would be better at being a chemist 1) Nichole dosnet understand how to teach her vids are torture 2) she's very rude when u ask for help 3)she dosent know what assigned hw looks like 4) she constantly crests problems between her and her students.
If u have the opportunity to choose another chem teacher, do it. So close to getting a grade above but she does not care at all. Her lectures are so boring, the exam questions are intentionally harder, trying to make you fail. If you do take it, good luck. I'll forever regret this. If you see any good reviews, I get the feeling she's making them
So so hard HW takes forever exams are impossible
Taking chem with Nichole will be the biggest regret of your life
Nichole's class made me realize that depression is real
It's crazy how one teacher can make you hate a whole subject.
So happy don't need anymore chem for my major I had a different teacher for chem 1 and enjoyed it chem 2 with Nichole was an awful experience. I have lost all interest in chem bc of her. This was my last semester here, got all As in stem Calc Physics Static etc and this class was my only C that should show you how good of a teacher Nichole was.
You will be overworked like a sweatshop worker in this class
I struggled so much with understanding the work. I felt like lectures were not explained in depth and reviews/homework were extremely harder. I did feel like tests were trying to trick me vs measure my understanding of the material. Would warn off taking this course with Nicole.
You will get very little time for tests making them almost impossible if you don't 100% understand something
I had Nichole for chem 1061 last spring. It's funny how she teaches most of the courses for 1061 which is a big class needed to transfer out especially for science chemistry and engineering majors when she is by far the worst teacher. Clearly the department is short handed.
I really had big expectations for her, and yet she was successful at getting me dissapointed. She has a PhD, which means she knows the subject. But, does she really know how to teach it without being DISRESPECTFUL to students? She created drama between students and her during AND after the semester, that is very unprofessional from her.
this teacher might be the reason i have clinical depression
Nicole has been a really gracious and encouraging teacher for a subject as daunting as chemistry. There's a consistent workload, but that feels really necessary for this kind of subject because you need the practice and time to work the right grooves into your head. She doesn't give it to you to be mean, it earnestly helps w/understanding.
Overall, it seems she's a passionate teacher, which I like about her. Despite this, she assigns many homework assignments, weekly 15 question quizzes, and a weekly summary. Her online lecture videos feel like you're there in person, which I haven't yet found from a hybrid course. She's nice.
