This was my favorite class this semester. The subject is really interesting. Myers is easy to understand and teaches the material very well. As long as you pay attention in class, the tests are pretty straightforward. She either lectures or shows a movie during class. Theres no required textbook and she posts lectures online.
Teacher was really great! She really loves what she teaches and she makes the class interesting. Mostly videos and powerpoints with little homework. I'd recommend this class to anyone wanting to take an easier geo class. Plus she's hot which isn't such a bad thing either:)
Nicole is very passionate about what she is teaching. The class is challenging but fairly easy. There's three exams and homework is rare. You barely talk about dinos themselves, which was a disappointment (ie, fossils, birds, reptiles, etc). Definitely study for the tests. She takes roll sometimes. Definitely take this class for GE!
Great teacher, easy GE class.
Nicole is awesome, interesting, and pretty easy to understand. Ever since jurassic park i've loved dinosaurs so she made this class super interesting and i learned a lot from it. She is really nice and patient with the class. I got a B and i'm not really the best student, so take her classes. PLUS she's super cuteeeeee!
Easy science teacher, I am taking her right now, and everything she wants is very clear. I think it is all great. There is a good amount of info to learn, but she tells us and gives us it all before any tests and it makes it really easy. The study guides are exactly like the tests.
The class is an easy GE class. Attendance is required for participation. The book is not really used. Only the power point is used. The final is very easy.
I really enjoyed this class. Nicole is super clear during lecture and available if you have any questions. Lectures w/PowerPoints (which are posted online in advance) Weekly 5 question quizzes online which you can take 2x. 2 midterms and final. She posts study guides which cover EVERYTHING that will be on the test plus you can use a 3x5 note card!
Great professor. The material is not easy, but if you study, you will do fine.
She is so nice and the class was really interesting. I did not like how she didn't take attendence because I often show up less when that happens, but at least the course was interesting so that kept me wanting to come back. The final was also SUPER easy.
Apparently her curriculum changed from her old class because this semester we had it pretty rough. Lots of material, long tests, and LOTS of online work. Too hard for a Dinosaur class. She's nice and hot, but a stern grader. Not a class for an easy A but it's interesting. I personally would not recommend it unless you need a GEOL course.
She's a great teacher! The class is really interesting. Attendance is important because she makes you take iclicker quizzes
If you go through the slides, you'll be set for her tests. There is a lot of info, but she uses information in class that makes it easier to remember. She also tells you exactly what she's expecting. Attendance not mandatory, give points for iClicker. Don't take your friend's iClicker to classshe will notice and you guys will get in trouble.
Nicole is very sweet and very knowledgeable. There is a big project at the end of the semester but it is worth completing. She gives great feedback.
Great class a lot of fun easy and not boring. Watch a lot of movies. Homework are quizzes online each week reading is not necessary if you pay attention closely in class.
Nicole is really nice and helpful if you go to office hours, but this class is essentially a giant research project split into three parts. It requires lots of research and pinpoint specific information, do NOT procrastinate unless you ready for late nights right before it's due. Definitely work with a partner for this, and it's a manageable class.
Loved this teacher!!! I would take her class if you have a chance to take it. If you study you will get an easy A in this class. Going to class is mandatory to go to in order to pass, but you will not mind going at all. Also I didn't use the "textbook" that she told us to buy.
Amazing professor! Lectures keep your attention; lots of videos. She gives Moodle quizzes every week but are fairly easy. Mid-terms are not that difficult and she is very clear on what she expects of you for tests. Highly recommend taking her class!
She is a very nice teacher. She posts her slides on Moodle which helps for studying for the tests. Come to class because she has us use I-clickers to answer questions in class which counts as part of our grades. She has Moodle quizzes that are due every Monday before class. They're fairly easy to pass.
Really fun class! She posts the lectures on moodle the week before. There is an online quiz every week which are really easy and she takes your highest grade of two tries. You get points for answering questions on your i-clicker in class. She posts specific study guides a few weeks before tests. Stick to the study guide and you will pass.
Really chill class. It has a lot to do with memorization. The class has to do with dinosaurs so I mean how hard can it be. Her lectures have a lot of information and iclicker points make or break your grade so make sure you show up.
Four tests all pretty much memorization so if you're good at that you'll do fine. There are weekly reading quizzes and mandatory iclicker points so if you don't go to class you won't get a good grade. Some of the material is interesting if you're into dinos. I personally never want to hear the word again after this class.
I actually really enjoyed this class. I found learning all about dinosaurs to be interesting and kind of fun. You can tell how much she cares about this subject and her students. She is super helpful and nice. You have moodle quizzes due every Monday but they are super easy. There are 4 tests, if you study and do the study guide you will pass!
She makes the class interesting and her lectures are in depth. She is very clear about what she expects and what material is on the exams. There are moodle quizzes each week, extra credit options, 3 midterms and a final. Attendance is mandatory since we use iclickers in class to answer questions. The tests are hard, but if you study they are okay.
I honestly loved this class and i would seriously take it again. Learning about dinosaurs was so interesting to me and I learned so much from her. I can literally name a dinosaur with no problem because of her. She uses iclicker for attendance and for questions and they count towards your grade so pay attention, they're random.
Nicole is great, very smart, very well prepared, everything is clear and she is willing to help anyone. If you show up and put in effort you will learn and succeed.
This class was fun! You will have to do some studying for the midterms, just because there is a lot of information, but personally I didn't mind studying when it was about dinosaurs. She is a very sweet, organized, and helpful person! I would recommend her class very highly! Also, when it comes to the textbook, I didn't buy it, and I got an A!
You will need to attend probably each class to receive iclicker participation points, but it's fine if you only miss a few since it won't hurt your grade. The best part is that she lets you print your lectures out ahead of time, so you can space out when she teaches it. Expect a Moodle assignment each week, but you can re-take twice which is good
This is my #1 recommendation for any GE class. I am not a science-type person, however, this class was by far the most interesting and entertaining. If you go to lectures, the tests are RIDICULOUSLY easy and straight-forward. Professor Myers is such a nice person and makes the class fun and entertaining. I now LOVE dinos because of this class
Did not enjoy her attitude.
Thought this class was going to be a super easy A but you definitely have to study way before each exam because it is a lot of memorization. Tests are just multiple choice. She is very clear with how she wants everything to be completed in order to pass. Extra credit offered but pretty extensive .
Lectures were interesting and easy to understand. All of the tests are multiple choice with extra credit built into them and are fairly easy. Attendance is not taken but you should show up to get iclicker points which are really important for your grade. Overall it was one of my favorite classes I have taken at SSU.
She's great! There are quizzes every week with reading and videos involved. The class is mostly remembering and she incorporates movies and videos to keep it interesting. We used reef points this semester, so you have to show up to class! She tries to teach the whole time and rarely lets you leave early. Not a lot of time at office hours though
Boring class with no information you will ever need to use. I took this class only because I needed the GE credit. She uses I Clicker points so it's necessary to show up and pay attention to pass class. There's a lecture every class, an online quiz due each week, and three midterms along with the final. She's not helpful outside of class.
This was one of my favorite classes because I LOVED the subject. Studying dinosaurs was really cool, and Professor Myers made it pretty interesting. You absolutely have to study for the tests, though, or you will struggle with them. Not too much homework (just weekly online quizzes), and you occasionally watch videos in class. I learned a lot!
Nicole is a wonderful prof who is very passionate about this subject, she is very organized and her lectures are great. Make sure you take notes!!! This class is intense and you have to memorize 13 different dinosaurs, she gives you plenty of time to study for tests as long as you don't wait till the last minute.
The class is very interesting and she loves teaching it, but you won't pass unless you try. Attendance is required because if you miss more than 4 classes its an automatic fail. There's a lot of memorization, so its easy but you have to put the work in.
Very interesting class, midterms are fairly easy if you study, but the final is BRUTAL!!!! You'll pass if you attend the lectures and study the study guides before each test. Textbook is only 25 dollars.
I loved the Nicole, you use iclicker the whole time so if you skip class you don't get points for the day, study what she gives you, you will pass and if you show up to class you will pass too, gives some extra credit before tests. very enthusiastic about the topic, post the notes online before the class, online assignments 4 days to do thempass
Attendance is mandatory. The course isn't super hard, but you have to study and pay attention. She posts her lectures online to look back at. The exams aren't super difficult. She explains things to clarify any questions and is passionate about this subject.
One of my favorite professors. She tries to make lectures intresting for everyone. The lectures are powerpoints and she provides you with them beforehand. Very pationate about the subject. There are 3 test and 1 final that aren't hard if you study for them. Weekly quizzes but their not too hard.
Nicole Myers is, in my opinion, what a good professor should be. She is very clear about her expectations at the beginning of the semester, and upholds them. If you put in the effort, you'll be fine. I also really appreciate her calm and positive attitude. As a sidetone, I bought the book but got an A in the class without doing the readings.
Myers is great. She's a super solid choice. She uses a participation point system where you have answer questions on your phone to get points. Dinosaurs are honestly really cool. I hated this class because of the building it was in (Darwin 103) but Myers was cool. Lecture heavy. You'll never get out early, she goes til the last minute. Still great.
She is so passionate about what she teaches, and she makes the boring stuff way more interesting. The lectures are heavy, but she gives the information in an easy and interesting way. Make sure to have your iclicker and participation on point, otherwise it'll mess your grade up. She's a very good professor.
She's passionate and a great lecturer and breaks concepts down so they're easy to understand. I would definitely take a class of hers again if it was under my major. Each lecture covers a lot of material, so you have to pay attention but it makes studying easier anyway.
I absolutely loved this class and although it was a necessary class to take I would gladly take any other class she offers. She is enthusiastic and makes you want to learn, she makes the topics easy to understand even when they are complex. She wants you to succeed and does anything in her power to make it possible. Truly one of the best professors
She did her job and that's about it. She was not understanding of her students and didn't let students ask questions during class. Very rude.
Meyers is a great lecturer and made me understand whats going on in Jurassic Park. She is a great teacher and broke down hard concepts very well, I never knew I would know this much about dinosaurs. The class itself isn't bad you just have to actually be in class, and do weekly quizzes. The exams aren't hard if you follow the study guide.
She goes against everything I believe in as a future teacher. Her teaching method creates anxiety and stress and is just a toxic classroom. You're graded every minute, literally. She does not help, is not nice, & expects you to know every little scientific detail about Dinos in just 4 weeks. If your prone to anxiety about tests & grading don't take
So dinosaurs sound fun, but this professor destroyed that for me. She doesn't care if you miss work, if you have CONCRETE EVIDENT PHOTO PROOF you missed something she MAY have you do it over again. The class is just a lecture for 75 minutes but it's not enough. Unpleasant attitude and grading is hard because all it depends on are quizzes and exams.
Unhelpful. Gives no material outside of class except for Canvas. Does not care if you need to miss class or have certain accommodations. She's just unlikable after a period of time and backs up my hatred of science.
Worst professor. Mean, not helpful, & always thinks everyone is cheating. We are going through a literal pandemic & instead of helping she decided to make the class even harder. Tests are tricky and not given enough time to take. This class gives so much stress & anxiety. Don't take
Worst teacher I have ever had. Does not care about anybody besides herself. Instead of trying to help us during this pandemic situation she is making all her students work twice as hard causing many of them to cry. NEVER TAKE HER CLASS EVER
Great prof. but strict. If you follow her rules, you'll have a great time. Tests are hard, but she gives you all the info, so fair. You HAVE to show up, she uses iClicker during the class which goes towards your grade. Would take again. Lectures are full of stuff so she posts them on canvas too. Info on tests could be things she verbally says.
On campus, I enjoyed taking her class, but when things went online she could've been more easier on students going through a difficult time. Tests are much harder online and you really have to work in order to get an A. The class itself was pretty interesting and I got a lot out of it.
I respect this professor but she needs to understand that pretty much none of us have years+ of experience and need to make their material more college work and not for people in the files, if you are not a critical thinker and dont have much time for her class do not take her plus her test are really hard, even with study give you wont get an A
I do not recommend this class. This professor teaches the material as if we are already professionals within the subject. The lecture material is too complex and difficult to understand. I dont even think actual geologists would pass the exams in the class since the questions are so difficult. She needs to rethink her design of the course.
I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend this class. There is nothing wrong with Professor Myers, but this class is VERY difficult, especially if you work full time and are taking other classes. If you do take this class, pay attention and take notes. Any type of slacking off and you are f'd. Took this in my senior year cause I thought it would be an easy, WRONG.
I loved Nicole, she was funny, engaging, well said, made the subjects interesting and easy to understand, all despite the fact that the lectures were online. She is so passionate about this and very knowledgeable from years on first hand experience exploring various natural disaster sites and researching previous disasters.
making this in the middle of a final. so so hard. im crying
If you do not have an interest in Geology Professor Meyers will bore you to death with her lectures. I took this class for general ed credit and she assigns a ridiculous amount of work. She also requires you to meet with groups every week. I feel as if she does not take account that we have other classes, homework, projects, and lives outside class
lecture heavy, uses tophat and attendance is mandatory. Lots of little assignments weekly. If you take notes at lectures the tests are easy (and open note). Group project killed me because had to do all class homework and one to two weekly assignments due as a group as well that you have to organize meetings for all semester. Good for office hours.
This is one of the hardest, most time-consuming classes I've ever taken. Up to 6-7 different assignments every week between a group project, tests, practice tests, homework, documentaries, progress reports/weekly group meetings, readings, weekly announcements, and much more. She overloads the class and leaves little time for any other classes/work.
The class is cool and the professor is helpful but the work is way too much. We have to read a book and answer questions weekly, turn in progress reports weekly, listen to lectures twice a week, do homework based off the lecture weekly, all while preparing for tests and having a semester long (intense) group project (essays, video). Its too much.
DO NOT TAKE. PLEASE DONT. shes sweet and does her job. but she doesnt take into account that we have livesso much work , i started crying in her class today. dont do it. dont take this class. please. save yourself the adding anxiety. this class has more work in it weekly then i have in all my other classes combined, i have 6 classes.
I had a difficult time with this teacher because I didn't like that she keeps attendance and that it is a major part of your grade and how you learn. If you don't attend the classes, it will be difficult to pass. During her lectures she gives A LOT of info and it feels random sometimes. If you have a passion for geology, this is the class for you.
Mrs. Myers tells you how it is. The class has a pretty simple rhythm to it and if you follow it and do the bare minimum studying for the midterms and finals you will be more than set with how many things are helping you in this class. The extra credit given as well as the curve that she makes for midterms and finals makes this class a good choice.
When I enrolled in Myers' Climate Change lecture, I was expecting a challenge, but boy was I in for a surprise. It took 4 hours and a great amount of patience and fortitude to even get through the introductory syllabus assignment. It was comically over-the-top. The group project requires a minimum 7 hours per week and is heavily policed. Stay away!
Attendance mandatory, group project, 4 exams, weekly hw. There's a lot of busy work I would say, but very interesting stuff. Nicole is SO passionate about her work and cares a ton. She puts detailed step by step instructions for every assignment, so follow the rubric and you're guaranteed an A.
Nicole is clearly passionate and cares about the material she teaches, but I would avoid this class like the plague. I have never had any other professor make their class so difficult to navigate. Trying to get anything done and figure anything out is like pulling teeth. She uses Tophat - so in addition to paying for the class, you pay to do HW.
Just a ridiculous amount of work for a 3 unit class. She is also incredibly disagreeable and unwilling to work with students if they have complaints about something. She is clearly passionate about the subject which I respect but unless you want to go into a geology field don't take this class. I wish I had known.
I would avoid this professor at all costs. For a 3 unit class, she assigns an absurd amount of work. The workload from this one class feels like the workload from a 16 unit semester. The workload is so heavily policed and confusing. If you want to have a smooth semester, do NOT take this professor.
Absolutely terrible professor. Does not help when you have questions or concerns about your grade, She actually replies to your emails in a very rude and mean way. She assigned way too much in the exams are through an app that causes way too much trouble. Do not take this class with her. NOT WORTH IT!
The amount of work for this three unit class is crazy. I have less work in 4 unit classes. You also have to pay $30 to use Top Hat for tests and homework. HW is a heavy load too, but MAYBE balances with 1hr 15min lecture 2x/week. Also a project with weird directions. She's passionate and the topic is interesting but this is hard!! Tests are tricky.
Horrible directions and not clear on what she wants
Great teacher, 4 tests, online assignment every week with reading and about a dozen "Which is NOT true?" questions. Lectures are easy to follow along to, same with slides and the reading is alright. Lots of opportunity for extra credit and you get 3 absences excused.
Honestly, she takes her class wayyyy to serious. She uses tophat, shes very structure, and well organized but when she talks about her lectures, she will be talking about information we dont need to learn. Her study guides arent that great, she put "sun" on her study guide and nothing else. Great person, but alright professor.
Weekly homework, monthylish exams, questions throughout lectures. If you don't understand basic geology, you will be confused in this class. Lectures can be overwhelming but you can review slides later. Exams are almost exactly the same questions from previous lectures/homework. Takes a while but easy to study for them. She is nice and passionate
Can be sarcastic at times
Professor Mysers expects way too much out of her students. Her lectures consists of long slideshows packed with information and she expects you to understand it all. Her tests are long and you have to pay for a subscription on this website that is used for homework and the exams. The final also cumulative. DON'T take her if you want an easy A.
I took 4 courses with Nicole. Advanced Principles, Dinos, Hazards ,and Intro to Earth Science. She gives students every opportunity to learn, excel, and get a decent grade. I returned to school to learn geology. My major goal was to learn how to think like a geologist, and I believe now I do, in large part to Nicole. Thank-you, Nicole.
I took two courses with Nicole as my professor and enjoyed both! Yes, she is a tough grader but she makes it very clear at the start of the course so it's really up to you if you want to pass. Her lectures were very informative and she knows how to teach the material very well. Tests were good and pretty easy in my opinion. Thanks, Nicole!
At least, from my experience in her Geology of National Parks class. She has been friendly, sarcastic, and humorous. Yes, her expectations in the class can be a bit intense, but if you try to work well with her, attend office hours to ask her questions, and do most of the extra credit. I think anyone can truly pass the class.
Myers is an excellent professor with high expectations of her students. She is clearly passionate about her field, and has many fun and interesting anecdotes that she will mention in lecture.
