Great prof, always answered my questions and was very approachable. Exams a bit hard though but you can get through them if you study her slides and read the book.

The best part about her is that she just gets it. I had her class at 7 PM - 10 PM and she always cut it short or let us take several breaks to accommodate her very tired students. She is very helpful and understanding. I really enjoyed her as a prof.

Probably the most approachble professor you can possibly get. However, her tests are challenging and the test/exam content is mostly based off the textbook but her lectures go over the textbook fairly well and give you a good understanding of what you need to know. Overall great prof and she really cares for her students.

Great Prof, my class duration was 3 hours but she made it very interesting that it never felt like 3 hours. Her tests are a little bit hard but as long as you understand the material in her lectures and read the text book, you will be fine.

Really good proff. tests are pretty fair. Come to all the lectures and do the online assignments. The final exam was kind of hard though. She only teaches during the summer (S1) so make sure you keep up with the readings. If you read the textbook and follow her slides, you're bound to get a good mark.

Awesome professor! I took her bio course in the fall and she did an awesome job explaining the material! She made sure every student in the class understood the material and she answered all silly questions without making any comments or faces like other profs do! absolutely an amazing prof! p.s tests are fair; study and you;ll do fine!

She's an amazing prof! After my last bio teacher in high school, I started to lose intrest in biology, but she brought it back with her amazing ability to explain the most complicated topics. Her tests are generally easy and fair. If you study her lecture slides (which are beautiful btw) and read the textbook you'll do just fine.

If she's an option, pick her. Lectures are clear, lecture slides are BEYOND PERFECT. To do well you need to: study slides, go to class take good notes and read ONLY relevant parts in the textbook. Her tests are hard, but not impossible. Easy A, hard A+.

Best prof ever, she made sure everyone understood everything. In terms of easiness, if you look at the learning objectives you will get very good marks. I learned the hard way, I didn't bother with the learning objectives for the tests but I regret not doing that once I looked over them for the exam.

Amazing prof! Started my first biology course with her in university. Couldn't have asked for a more organized and well prepared prof. Posts slides before class and makes sure material is understood as she lectures. Answers all questions no matter how long it takes. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TAKING HER CLASS.

Best option for Bio 1000. She focuses very strongly on the lectures/slides. I would recommend reading the textbook thoroughly for the midterms because there is always a question or two from the text, but IGNORE the textbook for the final. Apart form that, she's a good lecturer and a very sweet lady!

Dr. Nivillac is the perfect prof for this course. Her slides are mostly figures, so you must pay attention to the little details she mentions during lecture. That way you don't really need to read the textbook chapters; but FOCUS on figure captions. Sometimes she speaks too quickly & is hard to follow. Her tests can have very detailed MC qs.

A really good professor who both knows her field well and teaches well. She is very helpful in answering your questions. She does not make you feel like an idiot for not knowing something. The materials are all in your textbook so get it and keep up with your readings. Tests are straight forward and labs are great mark boosters.

Biol100 covers such a wide range of topics but Dr. Nivillac is SO knowledgeable and helpful so it is possible to get an A. I am really enjoying this course. She has covered many topics but does not rush us and so we always get the chance to ask our questions. I like the use of videos. The tests had a group format which I had never heard of but it did let us see which questions we probably got wrong before she posts marks.

Dr. Nicole Nivillac was the best profs I have had in my entire educational experience. She's always there to answer questions, her tests are extremely fair! Know the text book inside out and attend all lectures (make notes on specifics she points out) and i assure you, getting an A is not difficult. Would take her for all courses if I could!

Professor Nivillac was extremely helpful and kept me awake in her 8:30 class with the enthusiastic lectures. The exams are fair but it is mandatory to attend her lectures because she covers a lot of the material in more detail compared to the textbook. The reading quizzes every week were a hassle and the labs were boring. An A is achievable.

She is a great person and an amazing teacher. She is always ready to answer the questions. The class might be overwhelming because BIOL 1000 course itself covers a lot of material. However, if your read lecture slides & textbook before the lecture, everything will be so clear! Her questions are solely from what she said on the lecture.

Great lecturer - she is extremely clear, posts slides online ahead of time, and builds on the material in the book instead of just reading it to everyone. She always responds to students' issues in class and out. BIOL 1000 itself is really annoying (clickers, online quizzes, and tests not during class), but that's not her fault.

Great proff! I used to record her lectures, go back home and write notes. She goes fast so sometime you can't catch up. But in general she is really helpful and explains well! would definetlly recommend her.

Dr Nivillac is really good at explaining content and is there for you when you need the help! She really will sit with you and explain something if you don't get it - even in middle of class. She's an amazing prof who makes first year biology fairly easy. Her lectures are very clear and concise. Textbook is not necessary as her lectures provide the exact same info in a more precise manner. Memorize lectures, understand concepts and use learning objectives for an easy A.

Dr. Nivillac made this course enjoyable. If you understand the concepts taught, then you can consistently get As on your midterms and final exam (I did!). Clicker questions and online quizzes are essentially bonus. 1st midterm was straightforward, 2nd was okay and the final was good! She must also be commended for how fast she replies to emails.

SHE IS THE BEST! Gets straight into lectures and the material that needs covering. Best part? Before midterms and exams she frees up one of the classes and just a series of clicker questions to help you study. And she is very quick to reply to emails and discussion boards. SUPER NICE!

Loved her first year for bio 1000, microbiology was not quite as fun. There was very little info on the slides meaning you had to write like a madman and in most cases record the lecture. Lab portion of tests had strange questions ex) instead of asking about concepts it would ask you to recall colour changes that were observed for various tests.

I enjoyed this course! Liked that she focused on many topics and not just one for the whole time and planned lecture schedule based on our feedback in first class. Had us think in class about questions she asked. Tests were tough but what I expected a prof to give a third year class.

Nicole is an awesome prof, lectures are clear and answers any questions you have. Beware she might say additional information not on the slides. A recorder is recommended. Slides are posted. Reading quizzes are the only time you will read the textbook unless you already have strong background biol knowledge. The tests and exam were very fair.

If you do the readings BEFORE the lecture and attend lectures and actually try, an A is not difficult to attain. Midterms were fair, but final exam was tough.

Very good prof. I was really scared coming into first year in terms of what to expect but Dr Nivillac erased all my fears! Most of the content is purely lecture based except the reading quizzes which you needed the textbook for. Other than that, you don't really use it. She really helps you out with any problem/question you have.

The labs are kinda annoying but the lecture component was AMAZING! If you have any questions you can ask her and she takes her time explaining everything. Tests were all about the lectures, dont even think about missing one. There were some stuff that she mentioned on the class but you wont find them on the textbook so attend all her classes , you have to study hard but her tests are completely fair. I passed the course with 98 so A+ is not so out of hand.

Like any other course, you need to have the CORRECT background knowledge to receive the grade that you want!! Especially in a biology course, the professor's teaching style doesn't matter since you can find every single thing in the textbook. I found her very passionate about teaching and approachable at answering questions.

She speaks abit fast during her lectures, so it takes some time getting used to. I didn't really take notes in her class, rather just listened to her lectures. All the tests were from the PowerPoint slides. Reading the textbook is useless. Get used to doing some multiple choice problems, because it's basically all multiple choice. Do well on labs.

She's a great prof, the course that i took (biol1000) needed lecture attendance and a lot of text book reading. Dr. Nivilac did the best she could to explain the material.

Dr. Nivillac's lectures are interesting and well laid-out, although she does go through material really fast. One blink and she's moved onto another concept - beware! I definitely don't think it's possible to pass if you regularly miss classes. And although I thought that I understood concepts during revision, I still found the tests difficult.

Dr Nivillac is one of the best prof's at york hands down. She makes every class enjoyable and makes the material seem easy. The course was weighted lightly for the tests and heavy for the labs did make it annoying. You have labs every week and a lab report due for each. This took up lots of time and impacted my grade.

She is a great prof. RECORD her lectures and listen to them. Every 5 minutes she gives you a chance to ask your Qs so don't be shy and ask. She also gives you an extra 15 minutes at the end of each lecture to ask your Qs. If you don't like that go to her office hours, she is VERY helpful. labs are imp she will help u w lab reports if u ask nicely.

Nivillac is an incredible professor but you do have to work for your mark. I'm writing this review before I got my grade so it's less biased. Professor Nivillac is probably the best Bio lecturer I've had in my three years at York. The material itself can be boring but she keeps it engaging. The tests only come from the lecture slides but write down what she says cuz not all of it is on the slide.

When we transitioned in-person, she asked students if they prefer hybrid, kept the test online, and even changed the date so it didn't conflict w/another course. She's an angel + very funny!

Thoroughly impressed by the organization of her lectures. Exams had very little textbook content, so if you listen to lectures, you can do very well. She made sure to go back and clarify confusing content and incorporated it seamlessly with clicker questions.

Made every topic clear and understandable, kept students engaged with in-lecture clicker questions, answered any questions pertaining to the content, and examinations were fair. I highly recommend this Prof!

Her lectures are organized & engaging, she explains the lecture content well & she is always willing to provide clarification, including outside of class. She does lecture quite fast, although I personally didn't have a problem with that. She seems like she cares & wants us to do well.

Literally one of the best professors at york, just study the content and attend her lectures and you'll be fine. easy A+ honestly. Her midterms are so easy and she doesn't trick you. Exam was super easy as well. She provides slides which is so helpful and you don't really have to do anything other than to annotate the slides and memorize. best prof

She is a very respected and understanding professor. lecture material is reasonable and she is very careful with explaining all the concepts and reviewing each and making sure everybody understood. she also responds to emails quickly and if you have a question you can definitely count on her.

Took it summer 2023. Her lectures are engaging with participation questions. She answers questions in class, and makes sure everyone understands. The tests are easy if u pay attention in class. I failed this class previously with another prof, but got a B in her class that is saying something. Attend lectures though everything is from lectures.

Very enthusiastic and easy to follow. Biology in general is very content heavy and hard to understand. Attendance is mandatory for in-class iclickers but apart from that you can rewatch the recorded lectures. She makes very thoughtful/insightful iclickers to help understand topics.

Best professor, accepts any and all questions willingly. Very fair exams. You're doing a disservice to yourself if you take any other professor.

Shes really funny, amazing lectures, very kind and caring. I would give her 5/5 only if her slides had more info on them! as someone who didn't fully grasp the contents of grade 12 bio, sitting in her lectures and having to watch her explain an entire process based off one pic was difficult, but the text book/ youtube helped! over all 4/5.

Prof Nivillac is amazing and engaging, and makes you excited to learn! She's funny and kind, and will always be open to any questions. I would say to make sure you pay attention to her lectures as her slides don't provide you with all the info you need, but otherwise I recommend everyone to take her! Her outfits are also very slay.

Prof Nivillac is amazing. She has made lectures so engaging, and meaningful. She provides the best explanations. Make sure you attend class for participation marks. Read the textbook, however lecture content is tested. Write down the I clicker answers because they are not posted. As long as you keep up with studying, you can get an A for sure!

the absolute best professor. DON'T, I REPEAT DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Profs are obligated by department to tell you to use it as a supplementary source but her lectures are absolutely enough to ACE every midterm/final (BIOL 1000). save your $200.

Professor Nivillac is by far the best professor I've had the pleasure of being taught by. Whenever students asked for clarification on difficult concepts she would provide a detailed and comprehensible answer. Definitely take a course with her if you can!

Prof is great and makes the course content interesting BUT the course requires a LOT of work because of midterms + labs. However, midterm questions can be somewhat vague. Overall the course material was interesting and the prof was nice but I suggest avoid this course if you're looking to get a really good grade and/or not have a heavy course load.

Definitely take any of her courses if you can. Her lectures are clear and she knows how to control a lecture hall. Her midterms are easy and she is accessible after class to answer questions. She does participation marks but builds in lots of opportunities to boost marks. She is also hilarious and always makes sure everyone is on the same page.

Professor Niviliac is amazing, her teaching style is so clear as well as her course material and lectures she does iclickers to engage the class as well as learn. Her tests are fairly fair and not that hard if you work hard and study. 100% would take her again she's great!

TAKE HER CLASS! She is so caring and friendly, and wants you to succeed! My favourite course of the semester bc of her! All material you need to know for tests are covered in lecture and I didn't have to open the textbook once. The only thing is that I wished she would have put more info on slides, I had to rewatch the recordings to fill in gaps.

Dr. Nivillac delivered amazing lectures that were easy to follow along with. She was clearly knowledgable on the material and didn't just read off of her slides. She made the class more enjoyable just by simply showing that she cares for her students, always asking us if we understand. I was also very prepared for the midterms and the exam.

she's the nicest prof i've had at york. all midterms and exam are based on lecture material (i never opened the textbook to study). only downside is the weekly quizzes that are worth 10% of your mark and the readings for those are insanely long (not her fault, its how the course was designed)

The best of the best! I truly loved the way Dr. Nivillac structured her course for microbio. The key to doing well is to memorize and understand the specific details. Her tests are fair, and the TAs can mark hard but really, they are looking for key words to be mentioned. Labs were alot of fun and there are many ways to bring up your mark! Awesome!

Professor Nivillac's lectures are very engaging and insightful. Participation is mandatory, but there's a 20% buffer. She is very caring and approachable, always answering questions thoroughly. When I asked her for tips on studying for exams, she genuinely provided helpful advice. Best prof ever, I would definitely take courses with her again.

Unsure why people are complaining, this is genuinely one of the easiest upper year courses I've taken. Took BIOL 1000 with Dr. Nivillac and loved how clearly and passionately she explained concepts. BIOL 3150 with her didn't disappoint! She genuinely wants students to succeed. Take good notes and pay attention in class; her tests are fair and reflect what she teaches.

Ignore the 1-star reviews&#8212;most are from people who expected an easy A+. If you did well in BIOL 1000 with Dr. Nivallac, you'll be fine here too. Her tests require you to make connections, which is actually helpful and encourages deeper thinking; nothing too crazy or unexpected. Labs are alright, and she curved all the midterms & final.

Very kind and funny professor. The slides are very well organized and easy to understand as long as you show up to lecture. Video recordings of lectures definitely help seriously but otherwise fair midterms and final. Overall very nice professor and welcoming, gives first year students a great introduction to university.

Had her for BIO1000, the course was pretty easy same as highschool bio, and she made it even easier with her great lectures, and the midterms and final was all from the lecture slides. In overall, I really recommend taking her classes.

Genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met; would go out of her way to learn your name. tests were ONLY on lecture material (didn't open my textbook once). Explained things super well with good analogies, respectfully answered even the dumbest of questions, and lots of iclicker practice that she would take up with the class afterward

Her lectures are very informative and engaging, and she uses clickers that are a part of your activity mark, so I wouldn't really recommend skipping unless necessary. Don't bother reading your textbook, you only need it take the quizzes, but the information in it wasn't ever tested.

She's a just such a nice person. She always stays and answers everyone's questions after class I would recommend that you look at the lecture schedule and put all the assigned readings on your calendar so you can keep up with the lecture material every week. I would also go to the library with my friend and test each others knowledge.
