New and smart. Need to be ready to work. Interesting!
New but really good. I wish I had paid more attention at first.
Incredibly helpful! You can tell she really cares about her students and wants them to do well. The only thing is that it really is a lecture class so it CAN get boring, but rarely. She is also really great about taking questions and having a discussion in class, which makes it more interesting. Very great professor!
She's new and rillllly smart.
Dr. Slovak is brand new so she is young and exciting and isn't tired of her job yet...She was very clear about her presentation and easy to take notes because everything you need is on a powerpoint right in front of your face. The tests consist of info. in your notes so there isn't anything tricky. She was awesome and I got an A+
She is awesome! Very clear about assignments and work expected. Tests are straightforward but challenging you will get everything you need for them in the class lecture notes so attendence is a must. Very helpful aswell within office hours. She is also extremely attractive so I checked the "hot" button...just my opinion.
Really a great teacher and wonderful class. Very organized and really wants her students to do well! would totally take a class from her again!
Wow! What a treat to have a teacher who can actually teach. She is extremely bright, and at times funny, but always in control. Be ready to learn, even if anthro isn't your bag.
I never thought that I would enjoy a lecture class but Dr. Slovak changed that. If you don't learn anhything from this class you've got to be an idiot - she is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is simply great!! I was really sorry to see the semester end.
She is really nice, good sense of humor. She wants students to do well, if you do the work it is hard to not get an A. She understands that it is a 1-unit class and doesn't give a ton of outside work. You can miss 3 classes and she will let you attend another section of hers if you have to miss. 2 tests, both easy if you study. I would recommend.
she is really nice
nicol is realy sweet and she is really intrested in what she teaches which makes the class fun. she is really a good professor and she is really HOT.
She is an amazing teacher, she's so helpful and LOVES the subject, which I cannot stress enough- MORE TEACHERS NEED TO BE LIKE HER! Her lectures were interesting and her tests weren't hard as long as you took notes and pay attention. She wants everyone to exceed, she's the BEST!!
Dr. Slovak is a great professor. She really loves her subject and helps everyone to understand. The tests are very easy as long as you pay attention in class and only one homework assignment aside from reading.
Dr. Slovak is really smart and very proud. She really enjoys what she teaches. I took her in a lecture class and it was so easy, all you do is take notes and take tests and that's about it.
By far one of the best teachers I have had at the JC! Her class is not an easy A but she tells you exactly what you need to know in order to do well. Her lectures are very organized and to the point, as long as you show up and take notes it is impossible to fail.
She is very concise and clear when presenting the content of the course. Test are easy as long as you take notes and pay attention in class. Plus, it's always nice to have some eye candy in the room!
She's super cute and extremely fashionable, all my guy friends just sit there and drool. The material is very interesting and I love the powerpoints that she uses. I'm glad that I took Anthro with Nicole, considering I think evolution is a load of crap, she doesn't rub rub rub it into your face if you feel the same way.
Dr. Slovak is the best teacher I have had in college. What makes her a great teacher is her passion in the field of Anthropolgy and her desire to leave you feeling impassioned. Her ability to find a happy medium with all students and subjects is rare quality in teachers and has inspired me to do better things with my time in school.
Amazing teacher. She is super easy to understand and is very helpful. (she actually inspired me to change my major to anthro) More teachers need to be like her!!!!
Really easy and enjoyable because she is passionate about the subject. note that it's only easy if you show up every day. she gives you all the notes on a powerpoint and every question on the tests is from the powerpoint notes.
Possibly my easiest class so far, however, I learned quite a bit. She goes at a very reasonable pace and she is very attractive to boot. Four easy tests and one journal write up. One thing that bothered me is that she spent too much time on peoples mind numbing questions. Kids weren't too smart.
Professor Slovak is a great teacher. She's fun, knowledgeable and very fair. As long as you actually go to the lectures and do the one written assignment (it's only a page) and do at least some of the reading it shouldn't be hard for you to get an A.
This was an awesome Anthro class, soooo easy with all her powerpoint lectures, I'll admit I fell asleep a few times but it wasn't bad. Plus guys like to look at her.
pretty good teacher, class was easy enough that you actually learned and it was fun. No hw to wast your time, just 4 tests and a journal. easy on the eyes too
Class has no homework and I got an A in the class without reading, though it definitely helps on tests. Lectures are easy enough and subject is interesting at time. Great teacher.
Slovak is a great teacher. She genuinely cares about the students and makes the subject fun and relevant. Highly recommended.
Dr. Slovak is amazing! I've only had her for a month and I totally love her! She goes at a perfect pace and is VERY kind to people, even when they ask stupid questions (also very tolerant!) I always walk out of class feeling like I've truly learned (and retained) the material. She goes over everything in lecture, and a 1 pg response is the only hw.
She is very attractive and sometimes her eyes smolder when she is annoyed....yum. To top it off, she is an east coast girl and sharp as a tack.
She is smoking, I stare at her most the class and try my best to keep it academic and I have an A but.......she is pretty darn hot.
Dr. Slovak's class is great! She is super nice. Her lectures are straightforward and she is always willing to help. 3 exams total, 1 1-page reaction paper. If she ever assigns homework, do it. It's never hard. She gets irritated when assignments aren't completed. I would highly recommend any class that she teaches! Easy A if you do your work!
She was pregnant my semester so she might be taking leave for the fall but she is a great teacher. She doesn't take kindly to rudeness but if you want to take a good Anthro class, she's the one to take it with!
Slovak is easily the best teacher at the JC. The tests (including the final) are all easy. If you get the general idea of it, you'll pass the tests with flying colors - she doesn't get into specifics much, unless it's dates about species for the final. She's very clear on what she wants, takes time to answer questions, and is very helpful and kind!
Professor Slovak is a very good teacher who is knowledgable about her subject. However, she is very confrontational, so if that makes you uncomfortable this class is not for you. She is sort of passive agressive, but she really is great with her subject. Don't pack up while she is talking if you don't want to hear her scream!
She is AMAZING! If you are taking Anthro 1, take her! Her powerpoints are VERY good and easy to follow along. The tests are not hard AT ALL. Don't cheat on the test, she will call you out infront of the entire class. But she is suuuper chill and really funny.
I loved this class SO much, and I loved Nicole equally as well. She is very clear and loves to talk about her field. She has a great background in regards to what she does, and she knows her****. TAKE HER!! She's quite lovely too.
Take this class to fulfill your science requirement. It's pretty easy, just get all the notes from the powerpoint presentations and study with flash-cards and you shouldn't have any problem getting an A.
Great teacher. Very sweet but also doesn't put up with BS. Great sense of humor and holds students' interest.
She is extremely nice and laid back. She is fun and makes the class interesting. Just study for the tests and then getting a good grade will be a piece of cake. Yay!
Slovak is very clear and helpful in class. Her tests are really hard and she offered very limited extra credit opportunities that were worth a few points. Be careful, she can be strict and does not like any disruptions or BS during class. I really liked her as a person but the class was too hard.
She is very nice and her lectures are very clear and easy to follow but I don't think the class was at a college level. It was too easy so it got boring and that's coming from someone who loves anthro.
Slovak is simply amazing. Her tests are super easy too - I don't know why people think they're hard. They're mostly generalizations; she's doesn't get specific about the details until the final. Easy A and great, interesting class!
I absolutely LOVE slovak. The way she teaches is extremely understandable, I would HIGHLY reccommend this teacher. However, don't even think about taking our your cell phone or she will kick you out, she is very strict with this.
BEST TEACHER EVER. Hands down. Just be respectful in class and you'll have no issues from her. I LOVE HER! She's my favorie teacher. She's so sweet and kind, and she teaches the material in a way that it makes complete sense. Easy class, wonderful person and teacher! TAKE HER!
Boring snoozefest powerpoint lectures, but easy test. Dont get caught using your laptop for something other than taking notes. If you want better lectures, take Benson but tougher grading.
Dr. Slovak is a fantastic professor! She explains everything so clearly and just wants your best effort. She provides helpful study guides and answers any and all questions. She also gives great advice and is easy to talk to if you attend her office hours. Dr. Slovak is a great teacher and everyone should take a course from her!
She's very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject. She uses powerpoints which can get repetitive but at least tries to make things interesting. She will stop class if she feels someone is being disruptive. Tests were multiple choice, based on the lectures and some reading. Study groups are recommended!
Teacher is great, take her you won't regret it at all. She is very nice, and is willing to help. Attendance is mandatory, and note-taking is a must. Then you will do great in class.
Great teacher! Lectures are interesting, easy-to-follow and frequently include class discussion. Dr. Slovak's passion and respect for her subject and science in general are contagious! I can't believe how much I learned, and I wasn't even terribly interested in Anthropology in January.
Dr. Slovak is very enthusiastic about Anthropology. She is clear of her expectations and her emphasis and excitement around class discussions makes learning EASY. She makes herself available outside of class or through e-mail. Not a demanding class; I bought the book and shouldn't have because I DIDN'T OPEN IT ONCE. Tests are based on lectures.
She is a great teacher. You can tell she actually likes the subject she is teaching. Not a tough grader, homework isn't extremely important. Just do well on the tests and you will be fine.
Shes awesome, loves her job, very helpful, genuinely cares for her students and wants you to succeed. Shes also funny. Just show up, copy her powerpoint and study hard for the tests which are somewhat difficult. She doesn't give much homework either. I learned alot from her and highly recommend her.
This was such an amazing class, Ms. Slovak is an outstanding lecturer and really keeps the class interesting, even at 7:30am! I learned so much from this class and loved every second of it. I recommend her to all friends. The material is fun but the exams are difficult, if you study and come to class you will pass, if not, well...
LOVED HER SHE IS tHE BEST
She's a good teacher, just wasn't always responsive to my e-mails and questions. Otherwise her lectures were made interesting. If you follow with the reading schedule you'll be good. She DID kick someone out of class one day so she can be a bit harsh. She just demands respect in her classroom and if you don't give it she WILL get it!
She is really nice, has lots of energy and her lectures are not the least bit boring. Please, please, please do not even think about using your cell phone or using your laptop for anything except notes. She will call you out and then punish the whole class... you don't want 200 people and the professor mad at you. You have been warned.
I found her to be a great teacher. You better be on time, and be respectful, she's not shy about calling people out on their bull. I loved her!
Such a great teacher! Everyone should take this class with her!!! Truely a great teacher! I learned a ton!!!
Dr. Slovak is a pleasure to listen to. Going into this class as a Christian I was worried, but she change my perception of the field. I was very impressed, and never felt stomped on for my beliefs. It is not an easy class, but its not hard either. Go to class, take notes, study the study guide, do your easy hw, and extra credit and get a good grade
Great great teacher! Super easy and you learn a lot. Go to class take the notes and study the study guide and you will get an easy A I loved her and this class definitely take this teacher!
Awesome teacher! Super easy and nice. Take the notes and study the study guide and you will have an A. Definitely take this teacher!
Go to class and take notes and study the study guides and you will pass easy. There is reading assigned every night but she goes over it in lecture anyways. She really doesn't like talking or when people have their phones, but other than that she is really helpful and loves when people ask questions.
She is a great teacher. Go to class and take notes. Most of the questions on her tests are from her lecture. The final is harder, but as long as you show up to class, you will do fine.
AMAZING prof! She made me love anthro and even consider majoring in it! As long as you go to class and copy all the lecture notes you'll do fine on exams! There's only a few (easy) HW's and one paper. Slovak makes the class fun, and all the material interesting. I highly recommend this class!!
I would definitely recommend taking anthro with her. I don't like the subject, but she was so nice and enthusiastic that I liked going to class. You don't really need to read the book because she only tests from the notes. The tests are mult choice and pretty easy. She also assigns a few hw pages and a short paper.
Such a good teacher!!! Definitely recommend. Her class was easy and super fun. Best teacher I got an A and just studied the study guide.
Professor Slovak was a great teacher. She was animated, would answer questions and was very fair. If you are looking for an Anthropology class then this is the one you should be taking. In the end all I can say is it was worth waking up for the 7:30am class.
Very clear in her lectures, interesting subject matter and well prepared. Doesn't really joke around too much but definitely not uptight, just gets down to business. Also took her for Anthro 1. It's my major, and I've had other Anthro teachers I've found more interesting, but she teaches really well and is an overall nice lady- you'll learn a lot.
Great teacher. Clear lectures, interesting topics, not an easy A, but not a hard A. You will learn a lot.
A young, passionate, and intellectual doctor, Slovak is an excellent teacher. She is dedicated and helps to prepare you for an university atmosphere. The fact that she is both elegant and beautiful only makes listening and watching her lectures all the more rewarding.
She is very passionate, smart and beautiful. I took a 7:30 A.M. class and never really dreaded it... partially due to her hotness, but also because she keeps it fresh and entertaining. Don't use your cell, or chit chat with neighbors and you should be golden. She only tests on what she goes over in class. I also recommend introducing yourself.
Aside from assuming everyone's as interested in her subject as she is--despite it being an intro class-- she's a good enough teacher. It's nice she's so dedicated, but she's a little unrealistic. Overall the class was alright and Slovak's teaching style and methodology were good. Be ready for some melodrama if she feels the class isn't reading.
Don't be fooled by her simplistic teaching style because her exams are harder than you think. Study hard for them because most of her grading goes off that. Reading the text isn't necessary and the work book is on reserve in the library. Come to class and study for the three exams and you'll do great.
Do not talk in class or use your cell phone! She will kick you out at any inturruptions. Powerpoints every day to copy. As long as notes are taken the tests are easy. She'll give pop quizes if people aren't doing the daily readings.
This class is harder then the other comments make it seem. It brought my GPA down because I got an C. I sat in the front row, did all the homework and participated in the talks, I even did all extra credit offered. The tests are challenging, make sure to study hard. I though I was doing great until I received my grade. Study hard.
Very good teacher, took her in an Newman Auditorium Class. Very passionate about the subject, tests are not completely easy but if you check on the study guide prior to the test, you're gonna be fine. If you wanna ditch, have your friends sign in for you, nobody checks, there are over 300 people in the class!
I had very little interest in Anthro, but grabbed the spot as a backup. After visiting her in her office, I decided to stick with it and very happy I did. She teaches with a ton of enthusiasm and makes the content crystal clear. Exams are lengthy, but not difficult if you pay attention and take notes. A great course, interested in Anthro or not
I completely hated science before this class but she's awesome and made it extremely easy and interesting. She has awesome energy and I'd highly recommend her class.
She's really nice and motivated! Few homework and only 3 tests including the final and one paper which is about 3 pages.
Easy class. Textbooks are NOT required. Never had to use them once. Show up for lectures and study lecture notes and you'll get at least a B on the exams. Final Project is an academic poster and takes some work but is still pretty easy.
Dr. Slovak is one of the best professors I've ever had, I HIGHLY recommend her classes (she teaches anthro 1 and 3). She could not be any more straight forward in lecture and her tests are exactly what she goes over during lecture. I.e., you must pay attention and attend class regularly and if you do, it's pretty much impossible to get a poor grade
amazing teacher! as well as really good looking! easy class, just listen up and study
very good professor.
You'll spend most of the class taking notes from Powerpoint slides (with some videos sprinkled in), but she's obviously very passionate about the subject. Very approachable.
She was a great teacher. Very very slow at responding to email. I received a 69.8 in the class and she flat refused to bump my grade up or let me do any extra credit to help.
Great Professor, well organized and thorough. A good set of notes from regular attendance with a little extra studying and you can easily earn an A. Powerpoint lectures taken from reading assignments, and she will only test you on in class material. Only fault is she is willing to answer all your questions during class, when they should be ignored.
You are honestly missing out if you don't take this class. Slovak is endlessly interesting and she definitely knows what shes talking about. She makes the lectures fascinating with a lot of energy. She is one of my favorite professors at the JC. Only one essay and a couple tests. I received a B because I didn't study. Take her!
She knows what shes talking out but honestly its such a boring class. I hated it, her tests are hard I couldn't stand her voice. When I went to talk to her she said there was nothing I could do to bring up my grade. Had to drop it, if you're not good at test taking do not take her. Tests are worth a lot in her class
The best teacher I have ever taken at the SRJC. You will learn so much more in her anthro class then you will ever be able to remember! Pay attention, don't be late, and never FB during class! This teacher means business.
Her lectures are good. This is a class where if you attend, take good notes and pay attention you will pass no problem. Her tests are not easy but not hard to figure out if you read over your notes and studied about two hours for each test. She made it fun to come to class.
Slovak is an amazing professor! She is so smart, and gives great lectures. There's a lot of content to learn, but she explains it well and always delivers it clearly. There are a few homeworks, and 1 easy paper, along with the 2 normals midterms and 1 final. She is super awesome, I highly recommend her for any class she teaches.
This class was hard. The tests are hard, the paper was hard. Would not recommend this class to anyone who is not good at test taking. Attend class everyday if you miss 3 classes you get no credit. Read the book. I would avoid this class in general..I would not take it with her again. I was interested in anthro before I took this class..
I liked her. She's passionate about what she's teaching. Grading is very clear and the tests are a breeze with the study guide she offers.
Dr. Slovak is a really great instructor, she is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about anthropology. She was very clear and loved questions and discussions with students. Her class felt welcoming. Tests could be challenging, you will need the study guide that she provides. Very good class. I definitely recommend her.
Her lectures feel extremely long and boring. If you use your cell phone or interrupt her while she is teaching, she can switch into a bad mood in the matter of a second. Tests are extremely hard and make up pretty much your entire grade, study guides don't help. Pretty easy HW and gives a little extra credit. Would not take again.
for a 0730 class this was more than bearable. Her lectures were interesting and she was passionate about the material which made learning interesting. READ and STUDY and do the quizzes -although for our class we had all semester. She was the most understanding teacher I have ever had and very open to additional office hours. Highly recommend her
Anyone who complains about this class being hard should not be in college. This was one of the easiest classes I have taken at SRJC. Showing up and taking notes, doing the extra credit, and studying the flashcards you make from the study guide are basically the three things you need to do to get an A. Easy class as long as you put some effort in.
Slovak was awesome! She really gives smart and hilarious lectures about topics that are super boring. She made me stay awake and I've learned so much. I was sad when she went on maternity leave and we got another instructor... I didn't know how good we had it until she was gone! 3 exams, about 7 homeworks, one paper. Tests are hard!
Slovak is amazing! She is adorable and funny and I wish she taught more classes. She made her lectures interesting and she definitely made me want to come to class. She has study guides for every test and as long as you know everything on it you'll get an A on the test.
Best teacher ive ever had at the JC as far as professionalism and making sure she is teaching not just giving biased opinion which I have not experienced at the JC so far. Just dont be an idiot and pull out ur phone, she WILL send you out. Which i respected because not a lot of teachers will make a stand like that. Shes cool just act right &do hw
I enjoyed her class. She is clear in her lectures, expectations and tests. She encourages discusion, do it! She is witty and bright and has great examples from the field. Her PowerPoints and videos are only available in class. Don't miss and make friends in case you do. Notes are more important than readings so attendance is important.
I never studied and got a B, but be sure you do all the assignments, since the tests are pretty hard, especially if you don't study, but from talking about the class with other students, ones who studied said they still had issues, because there is a lot of information to take in for the part multi choice/written responses for the tests.
Worst teacher I have ever had at the JC. I highly recommend not taking this teacher. I was pretty excited about this class before hand, and now I regret it.
I really HATE anthropology! So I am trying my best to not let that alter my judgement for the sake of this review. Nicole is undoubtedly an enthusiastic instructor who knows her stuff. Very knowledgeable in this field! Homework was stupidly essay as long as you followed lectures. Test were hit or miss with me. Her lectures are boring at times.
She is a good choice but if you don't come to class and do your reading, you won't pass.
If you're a STEM major avoid taking. As a STEM major this is a waste of time as she requires a lot of reading and memorization for the tests. All the time you could be spending on your other important classes you'll be spending it memorizing this useless stuff that will never, ever and I mean ever in your professional STEM career.
Dr. Slovak is an exceptional professor. She is well-credentialed and has a genuine passion for her science. At SRJC, she is probably the instructor who has impressed me the most. You really cannot go wrong with her.
Dr. Slovak is by far the best teacher I've ever had at the JC and I would highly recommend taking her. Her lectures are sometimes heavy but she has a great attitude and genuinely enjoys the materials she teaches. Tests have extensive vocabulary with some matching and short answers but can easily be aced by making note cards and actually studying.
Overall her lectures were fun, but was overbearing since I took an early morning class. All you have to do is show up to every class and take notes and read and you'll easily pass the class. I must emphasis the importance of her notes because she covers a lot of things that will be on her study guide. The only thing I did not like were her tests.
Dr. Slovak is a nice person, however, I am not a fan of anthropology. I fell asleep more times in this class than all of my other classes since high school combined. I missed two classes for a business trip and felt like I missed a lot. TRUST ME when I say read the book. PLEASE read the book; if you do, I assure you you will pass.
All around youthful and vibrant, keeping lectures interesting and fun. Wouldn't recommend if you text or talk during class, she takes it seriously. She is a well-renowned archaeologist so she knows what she's talking about and can give you her professional opinion most of the time. She is what professors should strive to be in this modern age.
I'm currently taking Forensic Anthro and from the first day of class (August) to Thanksgiving break all we have done is memorize bones. We have learned absolutely nothing about the subject, our whole grade is based on weekly tests where we just memorize bones and repeat them back to her. It is the most disappointing class I've ever taken.
She has very good engaging lectures. She is fairly professional, I enjoyed the class.
As someone who isn't an Anthro major and took this class for a GE requirement, this was incredibly difficult. Slovak bombards you with information each class, and isn't clear on what's important. The tests are extremely hard and the study guides she provides don't always help. She clearly knows her stuff, but this didn't feel like an intro class.
Slovak as a person is funny and personable. However, she weights her exams really heavily. 20% each and the final exam is 35%. If you arent an anthro major, I would recommend other professors. She can be intimidating if you arent on top of the material being covered and wont stand for phones in her class. WOULD not recommend taking her.
I am not a science person at all. I was honestly dreading this class, but it became my favorite class. Are the exams hard? Yes. Does she expect you to attend every class? Yes. She is SO nice and the class can be stressful, but if you actually study (I recommend a study group), you will do great. Pay attention, attend class, take good notes, STUDY!
Shes a good professor. There was only 8 assignments, 2 extra credit opportunities, and 3 exams including final. I didn't open the book all semester because her lectures pretty much cover everything you'd need to know for the tests. During her lectures she is energetic and definitely enjoys discussing the material.
Grade is HEAVILY based on tests, only have 3 throughout the semester, including the final.
**I took her for ANTHRO4, but I couldn't find the code.**I loved her. It was my first semester at the JC after leaving a 4-year and she was a real gem. She is incredibly smart, and you can tell she loves what she does. Although the class was lecture heavy, her passion shines through, so they are never boring. Definitely would take again!
Definitely is test heavy, but all the things she says on her lecture are on the test. Didn't need to open the textbook. Loved her personality and enthusiasm. Just stay on top of your notes, and you should be fine!
I loved taking Niki's class! She is super passionate and even though it's lecture heavy, it's very engaging and interesting. As long as you go to class and take notes, homework and tests are relatively easy. Such a good teacher and makes her lectures really easy to follow.
She is amzing teacher. I had class with at 7:30 am, and I enjoy it. Only 8 hw, 3 exams, and 2 extra credit. I recommend to have the texture because exams gonna based on that. hw and exams are worth a lot of point so make sure that do all of that. do extra credit is worth up to 6 percent so do it, trust me it's gonna help you. Overall, not an easy A
You can tell that Dr. Slovak is very passionate about what she does, all lectures, but never boring and learned a lot. I look forward to taking another one of her classes!
She's a great teacher and is very passionate about her profession. If you are interested in going into anthropology as a career or major, this prof is for you.
I truly enjoyed my time in this class. Not only is this professor clear about work and class material, but she is also always ready to answer any question. I really enjoyed my time in this class and learned about areas of science that I am now interested in pursuing further.
A superb professor who obviously cares about her students. I loved this class and the lectures were wonderful. Make sure to study.
Dr. Slovak was a great teacher, very engaged, caring and responsive. There were regular weekly lectures that were current and newly created. The class was well structured and work was as expected. Exams were open book and most of the material was covered in the lectures, so you definitely have to pay attention and take notes!
This class was pretty difficult for me but she was a fantastic professor. She was very into what she was teaching and her lectures were very engaging. The work wasn't super hard but the amount of reading and the lectures could be a little tiring, but nothing you can't handle.
Dr. Slovak is by far the best professor I've ever had. She really cares about her students and is a great professor to ask for advice, inside and outside of class. Her lectures are very fun and go by really quickly, and the workload is a breeze- just make sure to do "the prepare for class" tasks in the modules!
A really good teacher and a fun course! As long as you read the textbook and make a lot of notes, you will most likely get a good grade. Overall, would recommend!
I enjoyed this class, it was more difficult then I had expected and takes the full amount of hours she warns you about in the beginning of the class. Lots or reading, lectures. Weekly assignments which are graded pretty tough. Stick to it and don't miss any readings! Exams were not bad at all, very doable.
Slovak was a good professor she is very passionate about anthropology. I did not have very much interaction with her other than the lectures. grading and communication were primarily done by the class TA.
I had no contact with Dr. Slovak, as any attempt at communication was met with her shunting my concerns off to her T.A. It didn't help that the TA's grading practices were the bulk of the concerns other students and I came to her with. She refused to review the grading, and she refused to mediate. Overall, she seemed uninterested in the class.
Asynchronous course with recorded lectures which was great! Very passionate which helps with learning. As long as you do the work you are prepared for exams. Grading was always quickly submitted, THANK YOU! I would definitely select a class offered by Professor Slovak in the future.
Professor Nicole Slovak's Anthropology 1 class is exceptional. Engaging lectures, challenging workload, and unwavering support. A must-take for an enriching educational journey. 10/10 recommendation.
She is very kind but is definitely a really tough grader. The only thing in the grade book is once-a-week homework assignments and three exams worth a huge percentage of your grade. Would recommend it for science majors or anyone very interested in anthro, but would not recommend it as a prereq.
I only have one month left and she has been very harsh with me. This class is very interesting but she makes it hard for me to enjoy. No matter how great I did with an assignment, she gives me negative feedback and isn't interested in helping me do better. I absolutely do not recommend taking her class if you are new to anthropology but interested.
Easy course that seems like it follows the basic history and science topics learned in junior high. One short assignment a week(typically a few prompts, answers have a MAX of 600 words). There are 3 exams that all nearly replicate the weekly assignments and lecture videos posted. Not sure why anyone would complain about her. Easy and kind!
For her online class, everything is graded on its own. i.e., all tests are multiple-choice, and the homework is through inquisitive. I did not end up talking to Prof. Slovak personally, but the lectures were interesting, and the class was pretty easy despite there being tons of reading.
Very knowledgeable and communicates well. In forensic anthro at least, there were a few weekly tests that were extensive and we would only have one day to study for, since the material covered would be presented the previous class. At least one chapter of reading a week. Really helpful and nice.
Canvas is nicely organized and there's an assignment due every week, but as long as your caught up on the reading, it's very simple! She also gives us a grading rubric under every assignment so we see how may points the questions are worth and what she's specifically looking for! There are 4 online exams that are open note.
Hybrid course with lectures and homework online, and in-person discussions. Low-point assignments, high-point tests. A lot of the class material focused on the history surrounding archeology and problems within the field. Teacher is very accommodating and understanding towards students. Lectures are very relevant to class discussions and tests.
Professor Slovak is passionate about the subject and organizes the class well. While interaction with her is limited, the TA provides helpful feedback. unstuckstudy was a great study tool alongside the assigned readings.
Professor Slovak's Anthro One class has been my favorite class by far. The 100% online course was extremely organized and easy to work with. Each week's worth of work is set the same way as the last, plus, there is only one graded assignment per week. Professor Slovak is also SO sweet & wants her students to succeed, an enjoyable class by far.
I took her online, and it was easy class, she just grades the homework a little too harshly, besides that shes fine, she never responds to messages, so just make sure you watch lectures and read textbook and you will be fine.
I really liked Slovak's class and the material given, the lectures were small and made specifically for an online course not just an old Zoom meeting. She uses inquisitive for HW and it can be a lot. My one problem was her docking a point from my response for missing a comma but misspelling "the" as "teh" in her response to me lol.
Dr. Slovak is an amazing, passionate professor who has fascinating lectures and very clear lessons plans in her online and in-person classes. I have taken Biological Anthropology and Archaeology with her and would love to take another one of her classes.
It does not take long to feel how passionate Prof Slovak is for anthropology and teaching in general. I always felt that she wanted me to succeed and would go out of her way to help students that need it. Her lectures can be dense with information but she makes them interesting and fun. This was my first Anthro class, I would highly recommend her
Clear that she loves what she does. Interesting/informative lectures. Weekly HW around 400 words, 3 exams and a final poster. A lot of freedom to choose a topic you are interested in for the final. Exams are multiple choice. Good feedback on HW, grades a little more tough than other profs but always helpful. Overall, great class.
Doctor Slovak can be stern at times, but it's because she is a caring teacher. She is engaging, thoughtful, and kind. Tough grader but don't hesitate to reach out she will help you I really enjoyed the class a lot. She is funny and silly, and clearly cares about the subject matter. Super knowledgeable, just don't goof off in class. Awesome teacher.
Prof. Slovak is a really knowledgeable professor, and she knows what she's talking about. While the course content isn't the easiest, she's really passionate about the subject, and is more than willing to help if asked. As long as your read the textbook, watch lectures, do the homework, and take good notes, you'll do just fine.
Prof. Slovak was awesome! Her canvas was super organised, and all of her feedback seemed well thought out!
Professor Slovak is awesome! Her Canvas page is super organized, and her feedback is always thoughtful. She's very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The material can be tough, but if you read the textbook, watch the lectures, do the homework, and take notes, you'll do great!
