Nicole is my lab instructor, I recommend her for Lab and lecture if she has one. She is extremely NICE and easy marker! I really like her and the way she teaches students. She is sooo sweet and caring to her students! Great job Nicole! :)
Nicole was an amazing lab instructor. She made BIO 1220 lab manageable. I felt that I learned more from her in lab than in my lecture classes. She was very approachable which made is easier to ask questions. She made use of our lab time to explain everything that we need to know as oppose to just a self study time like the other lab classes.
I had her for my lab and she was easily my best prof this semester. She even clarified stuff that we learned in lectures. Definitely recommend her to everyone!
Had a great experience with Nicole. She is extremely passionate and knowledgeable, which therefore it makes the class much more interesting. She is also a very fair marker and you will most likely find yourself finishing with a minimum of B+
Nicole is a nice lady and is very knowledgable about Physiology. However, not once did one of her lectures actually have all her students attentive. She reads off of power-points, goes off topic, and her voice puts you to sleep. If you learn by listening, take this class with a different teacher.
This prof is amazing if you show a willingness to learn she will help you. Best professor I have ever had. Go to class, be attentive, and understand the powerpoints and you will do great. Her teaching style is clear and concise. Great prof for intro to physiology
Nicole is an excellent prof. Nicole's passion for the subjects is really what made this class so interesting. Although some of the material can be difficult to understand, Nicole does a great job of explaining it so that it is comprehensible. Overall very helpful and kind
Nicole is absolutely fantastic, I only had her for a GNED but I learnt plenty from her. You must be willing to learn how to read scientific papers and analyse them for this class though. If you take the time and pay attention in class, you'll do fine. She's extremely nice and easy to talk to. I wish I could take her in my major.
Dr. Welch was a really good professor. She is funny and charismatic. In this class you learn the skill to read very difficult scientific papers, which is so useful in the future. The three big projects are very tedious, and do require a lot of time, so be prepared to dedicate some time to them!
Nicole is a good teacher. She just marks really. Get ready for pop quizzes, they are not hard, just make sure you know the basics. participation does matter cause you get extra marks.. I wouldn't give her a 4.7 rating. I did this assignment and spend hours and hours on it, and then she failed me. so get ready to put hours of work in your HW.
She was one of the worst prof I have ever had. I did not learn anything from attending her lectures
Nicole is a really good prof! This is a really hard course no matter who the prof is. Nicole helped me understand and she really tries to help students understand if your willing to put the work in.
Nicole is a great teacher. However, if you skip her class, you will basically fail. It is not mandatory but you will miss a lot. There is a quiz every class based on the reading from the night before also. I tried soooo hard in her class but failed most almost all of the assignment even though I worked MY BUTT OFF on those assignments.
Nicole tells you one thing but not everything. I showed her exactly my assignment for her class and asked if this is sufficient enough for the assignment. She said yes, perfect. I submitted it and I got 50% on it. 50% of your grades are group based and the other half is test based. I didn't enjoy her lectures and she wasn't very helpful either.
Nicole is very charismatic and approachable. She knows what she is talking about and is always available to answer questions. Lectures can get a little boring if you're not a science major but can also be interesting. Missing a class will confuse you but nothing you can't google on your own
Nicole did a good job of making this class interesting. He is good at explaining complicated science in laymen's terms. Easy marker on projects and assignments, although the final was a little random and fairly difficult. Overall, fairly easy A.
The one complaint I have is that her assignment instructions are not very clear, this class is based heavily on reading scientific articles and interpreting them. She has some pop quizzes but they are only given as homework checks and are worth very little.
She doesn't make expectations on assignments clear enough. She also expects students in a first year GNED class to be able to write assignments as well as a 4th year Bio student. Most people tend to fail her assignments badly.
Nicole is amazing. She's so sweet and understanding. She's also not afraid to speak her mind and is quite hilarious. I do have to say that she expects you to know exactly what you're talking about, and have a high intelligence level. Her assignments can be kind of confusing, but as long as you have an idea of the course material you'll be fine.
I took her class in hopes of transfer into nursing but she made that class extremely difficult to know what needed to be learned. She kept saying that you need to understand the content not memorize it but she also kept putting things into her lecture power points that she said would be focused on in a different chapter. Dont take her class. Waste.
Dont fools yourself... BIOL1220 is a hard course with a ton of material. Nicole makes it clear about what shes expecting of you but unlike most of the other profs... shes not trying to trick you all exams are based off her making sure you understand the important things.
Nicole was my mom here. She is an amazing women who cares about her students immensely. Her courses are tough and shes no BS but honestly shes very understanding. She supported me not only academically but through personal problems. She gives funny analogies and is very knowledgeable. Fantastic prof I would give her an award. Best prof MRU
AVOID! Her stories are irrelevant, confusing, and not helpful! She is fast paced, and very rude when you ask a question. Not worth coming to class, she reads the slides... and that is only if she doesn't skip over them and claim that she spoke about them already. Drop if you can.
One of the better A&P1/2 profs because her exams are less difficult compared to others I had. She talks about her kids and life a lot but sometimes they relate to course content and help it stick more. Uses layman terms so I understood the concepts more easily. She's positive and has a sense of humour and is approachable about grades/questions.
Bio 1220&1221 is no joke. I had Nicole for both, and she is smart as heck, but I was clueless to what she was talking about for 7 months straight. Very few visual references and she basically reads off the Pearson slides verbatim besides the odd story about her family. Test questions can get tricky, you either know it or you don't.
A&P is a heavy subject but I feel Nicole does well to organize the content and make it clear what is expected on exams.
I had Nicole for 1220 Lab and she was awesome. I changed my schedule to have her next semester as well. She really cares about her students and tries to give you gives when she can. Lab tests are fair and not very difficult, it is a lot of self-study.
Nicole is a very personable instructor. I had her for bio lab and found her really helpful. She wants her students to succeed, but she is also a no nonsense prof. Her lab exams are fair and she gives lots of hints about what you should be studying lots of. Don't know what she is like for lecture, but I recommend her for bio 1220 lab!
Loved her. She was really approachable and tries hard to help. There is a ton of stuff to know but she helps breaks it down.
I took her lab class, then her lecture class. Too bad I couldn't take both lab and lecture but it was worth it. She's amazing.
Nicole genuinely cares about her student's success and is very approachable. She explains concepts very well and clearly. Her lectures go by fast but it'll all make sense when you review the material yourself. I found her analogies and stories helpful for me to break down the material into simpler terms. Highly recommend taking her for lecture/lab!
Nicole was the worst prof I've ever had. Her assignments are ridiculous, she expects you to write a PhD thesis as a second year student. Her tests are absurd as she asks questions that have answers that aren't present in her notes(no textbook provided). She is unwilling to review an assignment before submission to ensure it is what she expected.
A scientific article was assigned almost every week (mind you this is a 2nd year course). We had to write a grant proposal of any topic. I didnt like my grade so I asked her for clarification on her feedback & she basically said read the guideline. Her tests were application-type questions (all short answer), no multiple choice. Dont take her.
One of her lectures had a stars wars reference, but that was useless because Ive never watched star wars. She usually marked everything late, but whatever. Also, what did she expect when she made the class do individual assignments with 2 scientific articles each? She said she read them all, so thats probably 60 articles altogether.
Nicole is an amazing professor. Ive had her first year an d got an A in gned. This class was difficult but I disagree with a lot of comments as she was accessible outside and really helpful with providing feedback. This class did require you to read scientific articles but if you cant handle this then good luck in third and fourth year.
I feel like these reviews aren't accurate. This is one of the most difficult classes you can take, and I think Nicole's reviews reflect that and not her as a teacher. She is very clear about what you need to study, her lectures are helpful, and she offers a lot of resources to help you understand the material to make this class as easy as possible.
She is an amazing teacher. Her rate here do not align her teaching style as the course itself is really a hard course and basically self-teaching. But she is extremely great at explaining concepts and her lectures/ppts touch everything that are on the syllabus. She is also approachable. Also make sure to submit stuffs on time :))
Nicole is a hero. Yes its a hard course but thats the curriculum and not Nicole. She worked super hard to help us students. I HIGHLY recommend having a one on one with her if youre having difficulty.
I loved Nicoles class in BIOL1220, I made sure to take her again for BIOL1221. The class is a ton of info and not much time to learn, but that isn't the professor's fault. She does a great job going through the material and is such a nice person too. I have never had a problem getting in contact with Nicole when any trouble comes up. shes good!!!
LONG powerpoints, read before you make notes. Nicole makes really good "study sheets" for each chapter, and the tests follow those objectives very closely which is super nice. Super passionate about phys, but very reading heavy- you gotta know your stuff before the tests.
Loved her! Definitely a lot of work for this course, huge lectures that you have to read beforehand for the in class 5 minute quizzes, but the quizzes arent worth a lot. As long as you put the work in and she sees that, you will do good. Very fair written mid term. One of the most caring profs Ive had in the biol department. Highly recommend her!
Records all of her lectures (online) which is really helpful since she talks fast in class. I really appreciate her analogies to help you understand. Some people weren't a fan of her but I personally loved her, found her super helpful, kind and she loves to chat with her students. It is a hard class but think she explains everything quite clearly.
Dr. Welch talks INCREDIBLY fast - When I didnt read the chapters prior to class, her lectures were hard to follow. The course is content heavy so get ready to dedicate a lot of time if you want to succeed. Dr. Welch was kind but I found that I self-taught myself most of the content so I would not take a class with her again if it could be avoided.
She's nice and her tests are not bad since she gives most of the questions ahead of time (at least during online), but they usually require A LOT of research. You have to read a scientific paper every week, which is a necessary skill to develop. Her two assignments are HARD and require extensive, hours long research. Also rude in email replies.
Online sucked but she made the best of it. Phys was so different from anatomy and was a big adjustment. she always made time to answer questions when I asked. I really thought she was good.
shes great but talks soooo fast its hard to take note
Her rating here does not reflect her, but the raw difficulty of this class instead. Nicole is an accommodating prof and she does her best to explain to you what you should know about the topics. I had her for lecture and lab. The way she marks is fair and she explains her expectations well. Don't let her rating here scare you. She's a good prof!
Nicole is a great professor. She does talk fast, but she explains the topic really well. If you ask her a question, shes very accomodating and really tries to explain until you get the gist of the topic.
A very enthusiastic teacher, very helpful and cares about her students. She tells you exactly what you need to know for the lab tests and makes class interesting, I always look forward to her bio1220 lab.
Nicole is one of the best profs ive had in university. She really cares about her students and their success. She gives really great in depth lectures that are easy to follow and grades fairly. Definitely recommend Nicole for any bio course!
The class is hard and extremely dense, so you really need to work to get the grade you want, however, this is not Nicole's fault. Nicole is an extremely caring teacher who genuinely wants you to do well. She is always willing to answer questions (and is very excited to do so as well haha) and is willing to help outside of class.
Nicole was a great prof! A&P is a heavy course, so it will be mainly self study for whoever you take it with, but what I like about Nicole is that even though she takes a long time to grade, she try's very hard to give marks for written questions wherever she can, which other profs don't do. She is also happy to answer any questions you might have.
Nicole is so sweet, but her teaching style is not for me. She will sit on one slide and just talk, which is hard to follow. She makes a lot of references. The tests are incredibly difficult, and I feel like she did not prepare us at all for big exams. The questions are so in-depth and specific. There are no practice question answers ever provided.
BIOL 1220 and 1221 are very tough courses but Nicole is probably the best prof you could get for the class. She records her lectures and posts them so you can have them to watch again or for review and she goes over the group assignment questions. The only downside is that she takes an insane amount of time to mark exams :( like weeks...
Nicole is an okay instructor but often goes off topic and is a fast speaker which wasn't helpful as BIOL1221 is a heavy course. She also takes almost 3 weeks to mark midterms.
Took Nicole again for 1221 making this my second semester with her. Really enjoyed her teaching style and enjoyed asking her questions. She is very knowledgeable and can help with a lot of your questions. This class (and 1220) are the "hard" class for first year nursing students. This isn't Nicole's fault.
Nicole is a knowledgeable prof & is clear at answering bio questions. But she talks super fast & can stray from the subject a lot. She also talks about things that are irreverent such as family matters. Strict with lab dress code, heard she scolded a student for showing a cm of skin in front of everyone. She is understanding when sick though
Biology is a hard class, but Nicole's lectures made them easier. Her recorded lectures are long because she explains a lot of stuff. Her teaching style may not work for everyone. She does talk fast so I prefer watching her recorded lectures. She takes a while to mark tests so if you have anxiety over grades, take another prof.
Nicole is a decent lab instructor but she often goes off on unrelated tangents. She clearly knows the material very well but every lab WITHOUT FAIL she will go on an unrelated tangent about her kids/family etc.. and waste 10 - 30 minutes of time talking about personal stuff. With such a content-heavy lab component, I found it very frustrating.
Please stop talking about your family as examples during lectures. Its very distracting and it doesnt help at all. Stop that! I literally hated lecture because of this. I found it pointless to attend as I know you will just annoy me.
She does not teach. Beware nursing students, you will fail bio if you take it with her!
If you want to pass stay away from her. She likes to include her family members in her explanations. It is very annoying how class time is getting wasted on pointless stories
She does not read off her slides but she goes on and tells useless stories about her kids/husband during lecture. Its very distracting.
Nicole often goes off topic during her lectures. She tries to keep her student's interest by telling stories, but they often don't connect to the content. She is very accommodating to those with learning disabilities and is always very considerate when you are sick. Overall, v nice prof but you will have to do a lot of reading on your own time!!
If you want to fail physiology Nicole is the professor for you! She wastes 30+ minutes talking about her family during 50 minute lectures, every lecture. After these stories she skips 15+ slides saying she talked about the content. She barely goes over content and anything missed in class you are expected to teach yourself. Very Disappointing.
Dont bother taking this class. She skips through the majority of the slides and expects you to understand everything that you are teaching yourself. This class feels like a full time job.
Nicole is very sweet and is overall a good Prof. However, when it came to course material, I found her to go off on tangents a lot of the time which made lectures challenging (especially since they're only 50 mins). She provides really good analogies though which help in making such a challenging course a little better :)
BIOL1221 is very content heavy, and the expectation is that students will do most learning as self study - this will be the same no matter which prof you have, lectures alone will not be enough. I had Nicole for both lab & lecture, her tests are fair, but not easy. She is approachable if you have questions but she takes forever to mark tests etc.
Nicole is truest the reason i passed BIO. had her for both 1220 and 1221. these are both VERY hard courses, and extremely content heavy. Nicole made the content bearable and helped us understand. she is very understanding, and will answer any question in thorough detail (regardless of how silly the question). BEST BIO PROF, she will help you
Lectures are great if you wanna learn about her sons in every single class, time wasted due to her yapping. She also has the anger management of a toddler. An incident where asking her about marks on a test resulted in her publicly yelling and swearing at students. You can find better instructors who will treat you with more respect.
I've had Nicole in the past and she was wonderful. However, this semester ALL she does is talk about her kids. TMI, I've heard some stories I will never repeat because it's just weird. She can be quite mean too. but in terms of teaching ability, I got a good grade because of that. Just be prepared for inappropriate stories about her kids.
She has 2 sons... that is all I can remember from her lecture! Tests are reasonable as long as you study: I don't think I know anyone who failed this semester (For 2 midterms, the class average was B+). She is hilarious and gives a lot of examples that make physiology easy to understand.
As long as you study, you will do fine in this course. I found Nicole to be a decent professor as she tried her best to explain the more difficult concepts that did appear on her exams, which were completely fair. Like many students have mentioned, she does go off-topic quite a bit, but that is not a huge problem for me personally.
Nicole gives great descriptions of topics if asked questions. I would avoid having her as a prof though(at least for this course). Lecture slides FULL of content will not be able to take notes on (too many words on slides). Says this is for studying but based on amount of content is still hard to navigate. If you can, take this class with Sarah.
Considering that spelling counts in this course, it was embarrassing how many spelling mistakes there were in her powerpoints, especially for key terms. Goes off topic so much that attending lecture is a hit or miss. I recommend you take this course with another professor if possible.
Nicole is a great instructor for BIO1221, but her personal stories about her family can distract from focusing on course content. She creates an engaging learning environment for her students , for some her family stories might be helpful to learn content but definitely not for me . Her expertise and dedication to teaching are commendable,.
Difficult course that requires a lot of extra studying, just coming to the lecture is not enough. Definitely need a textbook, only studying slides won't get you far. Nicole did her best to explain difficult concepts and was always happy to answer questions. The whole course is only graded by quizzes and tests, but I found that they were pretty fair
Nicole is a great professor and is very personal. Her class is not difficult as long as you keep up with the lectures and read the textbook. My only complaint is that she does work through cellular respiration and photosynthesis a little too quick. Overall, still a very good prof.
Decent prof and lots of easy marks through iClicker and the online activities. Only complaint really is that during the later units, she put a lot of complicated information that we technically didn't have to know. She also talked too much about random stuff during class. Wasted the first 30 minutes of class one time talking Chris Evans.
Nicole is a great prof who makes fun examples to explain biology efficiently and her tests are easy. Some people say her tests are harder than other profs but I found it really easy as long as you put a decent amount of study time into this course (~4 hours/week). For incoming nursing students, she is a great prof to build foundations in basic A&P.
Nicole's lectures were mostly rambling of some sort, whether it was her personal life or examples of concepts that don't make sense. I found myself teaching myself majority of the topics, not to mention that she is unwilling to help students outside of class time and enforces strict deadlines. Avoid Nicole at all costs.
Nicole think she's helping students succeed by expecting us to come to class having done readings prior to, pretty impossible for a first year nursing student. The emails she sends out to us are very unhelpful and they come off as passive aggressive rather than informative. I've never seen a professor who doesn't care about her students until now.
Nicole doesnt care about her students whatsoever. It's like she wants you to fail. She's expects students to show up to every single lecture and will hold it against you if you don't. I have not met a single person that likes her, avoid her class at ALL COSTS! She will purposely fail you.
I have to say I disagree with a lot of the negative reviews written about Nicole. No, she is not for everyone. If you don't like stories and narratives that help familiarize yourself with concepts, don't take her. She really cared about her students, she took time to help explain concepts outside of class, and her tests were always fair.
I love Nicole. She understands and cares about what she's teaching. People complaining about her just don't like the course and blame it on the prof. I recommend going to her lectures since there is so much to know. She teaches the hard stuff since the class time given is short but if you have questions on the easier stuff she always answers them.
Amazing professor, very sweet, and I don't think she deserves any hate from the other reviewers. Most students failed the class due to not showing up, as everything taught in class was covered on the test. She is really nice and shares a lot of stories, but as a visual and auditory person, this is highly helpful. Would recommend.
Considering the fact that this is a first year nursing course bio 1220 is quite literally hell. Out of all the profs Nicole is the better option, she is a very tough marker but this is also a tough course and she has to be. Sure she loves to yap but it all comes together in the end and her examples are what will pull you through. only exams
Nicole is a very good professor, she uses lots of examples, diagrams and definitely wants you to succeed, this class is hard, if you don't put in the effort you will do very poorly but Nicole is always happy to answer questions after lecture or through email even doing review sessions outside of lecture that other profs don't have, she cares!
Nicole is a kind person but a poor professor. Despite promising support, she lets students struggle. After the final, she went on vacation, leaving students anxiously waiting for grades while others received theirs (we will not receive them for two more weeks). The lack of professionalism is ridiculous, especially after paying $1000 for the course.
Nicole is a very fair professor. She will not be easy on you which is why I think she's viewed negatively. Both Bio 1220 and 1221 are very tough courses which means participation in lecture is very important. If you go to class and participate in discussions, ask questions, and do the practice questions you will succeed in her class.
I LOVE Nicole. Yes, the course is heavy, but if you put in an enormous amount of effort, you will pull through. People complain about how she deviates from the course to other topics during lectures, but I think it helps loosen the mood and also helps me understand a concept better. She is either a win or a loser, but for me, she was a win.
Nicole was a really great prof. I had her for bio 1220. The course is very tough and you definitely have to put in a lot of work to succeed. Nicole goes through the topic slides in lecture and does her best to explain it using a mix of techniques. She's very kind and wants you to succeed.
I truly believe (and know from what I've witnessed) that those complaining about Nicole are the same people who did not show up for class consistently. Attendance for every lecture is indeed mandatory, and absolutely necessary for success in this class and Nicole made this clear. We are in nursing school and Nicole has a high standard as she should
she is a great bio teacher i totally love her. she is very good at making analogies about random things in life that just stick that relate to hard bio subjects. makes it easier to understand. she's very funny and she explains stuff well and makes sure you understand the context when you ask a question.tests are good if you study well for them10/10
She is great honestly! very helpful. if you dont understand something you can ask her to repeat it and she will, and also go over in detail again! Attendance is mandatory, its Bio afterall. But she's really dope. you can trust my rating, cause this is what I use to choose proffesors too lol. I make sure my rating is honest!
Nicole was an amazing professor she made the content understandable and was very clear about what you need to know. Yes, she talks a lot, but her talks allow students to connect to the content and better understand. This course is hard no matter who you take it with, and if you do not show up to lecture, it will be immensely harder.
Nicole is a great professor, and I would absolutely take her again if she taught nursing classes. Put the work in and attend class, it really is that simple y'all.
great person and professor she has various ways of getting the message across to her students to the point it gives you just enough time to write notes and move on and her story's are never the same you are bound to learn or giggle in her class she tells you what students struggle with on the 2 big tests through the term and it will help you out:D
Professor Nicole Welch is an outstanding educator who makes learning enjoyable. Her lectures are engaging, well-structured, and easy to follow. She genuinely cares about her students, offering support and clear feedback. Her passion for teaching and deep knowledge of the subject make her classes both informative and inspiring. Highly recommend!
Professor is amazing! She explains difficult topics clearly and keeps lectures interesting. She's approachable, patient, and always willing to help. Her enthusiasm for teaching makes a huge difference, and she encourages student participation. Her labs are well-organized, making concepts easier to understand. She truly cares about student success.
Nicole is an incredible professor! She makes complex subjects easy to grasp and relates lessons to real life. Her passion for teaching is evident, and she always supports her students. She's responsive to questions and provides helpful feedback. Her engaging style and structured approach make her class a great learning experience.
Nicole Welch is one of the best professors I've had! She makes tough subjects easy to understand with clear explanations and great examples. She's patient, approachable, and always willing to help. Her lectures are well-organized, and she keeps students engaged. Her enthusiasm for teaching is contagious, making class enjoyable.
Professor Welch is an incredible teacher who truly cares about her students. She explains complex topics in a way that's easy to follow. Her lectures are always engaging, and she encourages discussions. She is very supportive, provides helpful feedback. is always willing to help. Her passion for teaching makes a huge difference in student learning.
she is an amazing instructor! She is very knowledgeable and makes class interesting. She explains concepts clearly and connects them to real-life applications. She is also very approachable and encourages questions. Her enthusiasm for teaching is inspiring, and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. I highly recommend taking her class!
she was a great lecture professor for 1221. she is very personable but only focuses on major topics in class and you kinda have to teach yourself everything else. but she focuses on harder topics, so it kind of balances out. would recommend.
Nicole is a great professor! The course is content heavy but that's just how it's set up and not her fault. She makes concepts very clear and provides clear instructions reading midterms and the final. She always made time to meet if I needed outside of class, and to review the midterms. Answers email promptly!
Nicole is an angel, I legit failed the class but was okay w doing it again bc I had her again haha. Bio is hard bc there's so much of it and esp in spring you're learning a whole chapter every day, but she does her best to make it digestible. :)
A&P is an already difficult course however Nicole makes it less intimidating since she explains the difficult topics in an interesting way. she connects things to her personal life so its easier to understand and rmbr when writing an exam. she doesnt just read directly off the slides either. definitely recommend!! shes very approachable and helpful
Notes are quite overcomplicated. However, tests are quite easy and fair.
Nicole is very kind and lectures are interesting. I was always engaged and she is clear about what information you need to know for midterms/finals. You always know what material to study and focus on, and tests are very fair. Even though this is a challenging and content heavy course, Nicole's lectures are clear, and she is always willing to help.
Nicole was great! If you're a visual learner you will like nicole, she draws diagrams of many systems which make them so much simpler to understand. She really wants her students to succeed. Attending lecture is critical for the drawings as well as how she explains concepts. It's very clear what is expected on exams and marking is fair
biol is a very hard class to begin with but nicole does a good job explaining hard concepts in a visual way
Nicole tried to make the class engaging and taught the concepts in ways that made it easy to stick with you. Personally, I wish she would go over the term exams in greater detail as there were usually more mistakes on the multiple choice rather than the written portion. Overall, great professor!
