Professor Youngman is pretty cool. She's sometimes funny and talks about some interesting subjects. It is definitely boring sometimes. You have to read the book a lot but she tells you exactly what you need to do and what to do to be prepared for the next class. She will call someone out for cell phone use or talking. I'd recommend her class.
I did not enojy this class. When I was lost and asked for help, she said she didn't know what to tell me. You have to read the entire book in order to know the material. She does not make the class interesting. Her grades consist of 4 quizzes, a midterm and a final. No chance for extra grades or bunus. I would not reccomend her.
very easy as long as you pay attention and take good notes in class, I made A's on all of the tests and quizzes.
There are 4 papers required for this class, a midterm, and a final. The papers are easy and the tests seem like they were designed for 1st graders. Attendance is mandatory and 10% of your grade. You can get away with not reading the textbook, but readings posted on Blackboard are important. Youngman can be annoying, but she isn't the worst.
Her class was okay. I enjoyed the subject. She shared interesting stuff and cares about what she does. You have to read the book and she will not remind you.
LOVED her. She was so enthusiastic about what she teaches and she never singles anyone out. The only thing she harps or "bashes" on is religion, but that's every SOC professor. We have 10 homework's due total and 3 test. If you want an easy teacher, take her!
awesome teacher and very interesting
Take her easy class I didn't study & I have an B 1 point away from an A she is very interesting. She loves her job . Attendance is mandatory . Come to class easy A
Don't have enough time to finish the quiz and exams. 15 min to do 25 questions.
Quizzes were unnecessarily hard, never enough time to finish and she gives you so much information it's hard to obtain everything at once. Would not recommend if you don't like keeping up with readings and videos.
Good professor. Decent class. Not much new information though. Very similar to 101.
She is a good professor, passionate about what she teaches. If you are attentive, and do ALL the homework, you will do good. She doesn't give second chances though so go to class everyday
Easiest class ever. Never read a page of the book and still got an A.
Class is doable but don't recommend. If you do all of the work assigned there is no time for any other class. She gives 15 minutes for 25 question tests. For test you have a detailed understanding of 3 entire chapters plus readings and videos. Oh and did I mention the final will cover the entire book, all readings and all videos she ever posted.
Honestly, she's annoying as hell. Talks really fast, teaches about stuff that does not matter. We had a lecture on the school system in New Orleans and talked thirty minutes about what a charter is instead of going over the actual study. Not a hard grader or hard class, just annoying.
You must read a chapter of the text every week, plus online articles, plus watching videos. There are 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. She does provide study guides for each chapter and you HAVE TO READ THEM TO PASS--on the plus side they are funny. Class is easy as long as you have time to do the readings and study a bit. Grades are WEIGHTED.
Dr. Youngman' class was average in regards to work required. She is a bit of a tough grader. Just do all the readings and use common sense and you'll be fine. I would take her again because her tests are pretty straightforward and she's funny.
Class 100% online. Weekly assignments are given that include readings from the book, articles/videos online, and a study guide explaining it all (best part!) Short quiz once a week on the readings. I enjoyed this class very much. Videos and articles are often funny. Only real negative is the time limit on tests is extremely tight - must study!!
Personally thought she was annoying. She gives quizzes online almost before every class, and there really easy! Her lectures are just super boring, she just sits and talks. She always shows videos in class that I could barely stay awake to watch. She's very rude to some students when they try to participate in class.
This Lecture is disrespectful to students, she is late to class, late on returning back test grades. She takes up to 3 weeks to grade test. Lectures are boring and disrespectful to students who participate in discussions so its pointless to participate. Will never recommend any of her classes to anyone. I love sociology but she made me hate it
I would not recommend this teacher! She was late everyday. She also would be very rude and ugly to students in front of the whole class. She also would forget to send tests over to the testing center (all 4 of them.) Expect to read every chapter and take a quiz for it. She is very unorganized with everything: lectures, grading test, and projects.
I have noticed that she teaches the class as though we are high schoolers. She assigns ridiculous amounts of homework before every class and grades tough. If you would rather a relaxed learning environment without constant deadlines I wouldn't recommend taking her class. She also talks down to anyone that raises their hand.
Dr. Youngman was incredibly clear in the layout of the semester. You knew from day one what you were expected to read every week. She also tied in current events to the lessons, which is especially helpful for the subject matter. I took this class online, with a 15 hour course load and not once did I feel overwhelmed with the amount of reading.
Dr. Youngman was overall super easy. Just attend lectures and take notes and you'll do well. She gives weekly quizzes on moodle that are so easy (5-6 questions each) and those will help bump up your grade. Test questions are straight from the lecture and notes. She'll teach you all that she can for a 101 course! I definitely recommend her.
Grade is composed of tests and reading quizzes. Lectures are very interesting. Get friendly with your textbooks because you'll need them. ATTEND EVERY CLASS. Very few opportunities for extra credit.
She's very understanding and very patient with students
Dr. Youngman was great for Soc 310. She has 4 tests (Test 1, midterm, test 2, final). The tests are pretty straight forward. She also posts study guides for the midterm and final. She grades 5 homeworks before the midterm and 5 homeworks after the midterm for credit. I loved her! Very smart, understanding, and easy to relate to. I would take again!
She is an extreme feminist and very insulting. She talks from start to finish and will even keep you longer than the time she has you. Very vague on when tests are and also when you must complete a quiz. Treats you like you're in middle school. Would not recommend and will not take again.
She talks from start to finish and will even keep you longer than the time she has you. Don't remind you about tests and when they are. You must complete multiple quizzes online but they help your grade if you pass them. She reply to emails late and doesn't give extra credit or round grades. Would not take again.
I took her online and loved it. Very informative class. Structure is easy to follow. Super easy to make an A. She's very nice too. Definitely recommend her SOC 101 online class!
Wonderful professor. She has her doctorate in Soc so she's extremely knowledgeable. People don't like that she is opinionated... but it's a Soc class so wtf do you want? It adds elements of realism to the class so I encourage her opinions. Her lectures are phenomenal and she helps you along. Quizzes are easy. Take notes tho (if it wasn't obvious)
Shes nice and will help you understand a concept if you dont understand. Her tests are easy and straight forward.
Pushy with her point of view. Quiz for every class period. Take notes for sure.
Dr. Youngman likes to tell you her point of view, but she's a great professor! She is easy to understand and gives real life examples to explain a concept! Her tests are easy and straight from the notes and reading quizzes! She will not round your grade, so do all the quizzes and pass her test!
I had to drop soc101 as making good grade is really tough. No extra credit no bonuses. Lots of quizzess and test and all are really tough.
She is super nice and understanding. She gives great lectures and her tests are straightforward and easy if you pay attention in class and study a bit.
She is pretty politically biased and likes to share her opinion a lot, but her tests are really easy as long as you show up to class. She assigns a lot of readings outside of class and an online quiz before every class. I'd recommend her to anyone who needs SOC 101 as a prerequisite but not if your majoring in sociology.
I enjoyed her sociology class much more than I thought I would. She makes it interesting, but can be biased at times. Her tests are identical to the notes, so attending class helps a lot. Gives 4 tests, not including the midterm and final, with 2 reading quizes due every week.
Mrs youngman does not take roll you cane cone and go as you please . Depend when you have the class you will have reading quizzes due on that day 30 minutes before the class. Most of her criteria is on quizlet . Test 25 question nothing more or less all multiple choice . She does talk a lot but all is on the test good luck !
She does not care if you come to class. Gives multiple online quizzes that can help your grade! She talks a lot and does not let you leave until shes done, but she is the EASIEST SOC CLASS! Take her! You will pass!!
Dr. Youngman is extremely intelligent and very passionate about her field of work. She comes off as condescending, but she's a really sweet and doesn't mean any harm. There are 4 tests (all accumulative), 10+ hmwrks and a few in-class assignments. I only read the textbook glossary for the terms but THE READINGS ON MOODLE ARE VITAL. Read them all!
She is a great teacher, she has reading quizzes every due every class period. She is strict about cell phone use in her class... If you pay attention in her class you will pass. She is funny at times and is a very laid back teacher. If you don't want to go to class, make sure you have a class buddy that takes great notes. Test are very easy.
This class was all lecture, boring too. She expects you to read a lot and there's a quiz due on moodle before every class. Study and you'll pass her test. (they're short).
Best teacher. DEFF take her!!
If you take good notes in class and pay attention you will pass. She's strict about phones and talking, but it makes you pay attention. There's quizzes on moodle before almost every class. You have to read the textbook and readings to pass the quizzes. Her class has many grades which is good! There is a total of 6 tests, 4 exams, a midterm, final.
She uses videos to explain the terms we learn, and I really like that. She gives quizzes before every class that are very easy points! However, shes extremely liberal and forces herself on you which will most likely make you mad
Hands down the best professor that I have ever taken! Highly recommend
I love this lady. She speaks the truth. Her test arent hard just do the quizzes she has every week. Get good grades on the quizzes and it helps boost your overall grade. I didnt think I would like her at first. Stay off your phones & she doesnt let you leave until the very last minute. But overall shes amazing.
I had her for an online class. Each week you're suppose to learn at-least one chapter from the textbook and she gives you 4-5 other reading material like stories, news, YouTube videos or articles. The midterm for this class covered 9 chapters! Get ready to read ans take many test/quizzes. You only have 15 minutes for each quiz that has 10 questions
Loved her online class. Was super straightforward and incredibly easy!
With her online class, you have weekly reading quizzes, they are not timed but you only have one try. Her tests, midterm, and final are what you really need to prepare for. STUDY! IF YOU DO NOT STUDY YOU WILL NOT PASS! What you earn is what you earn, no extra credit is given at any point of time. If you study you will pass, if not you're screwed.
Dr. Youngman was just simply not my preferred type teacher. If we asked a question or tried to discuss a topic related to the lecture she would simply respond "We will discuss this a different time." the different time was nonexistent. She was rude and read the book in order to pass the class. Make sure to complete the reading quizzes.
She is a super easy choice for sociology as long as you show up to class she covers everything on the exam in her lectures and normally repeats it if it's on the exam. She posts an online quiz on Moodle before almost every class which can be annoying but a lot of questions from the quizzes are on the exams so they make great study guides!
Shes very easy if you pay attention
She allows students to challenge perspectives and ideas which makes it a great learning environment. After taking Dr. Young man's courses, she has made understanding journals, lectures and reading in other courses elementary. She's hard but THE BEST PROFESSOR AT SELU.
She is very opinionated. The subject just isnt interesting to me and she didnt really help when the right answers to the tests were her opinion of the question being asked.
Dr. Youngman made this class really fun and interesting. There are 4 exams and a quiz every week which really helps your grade. This class is super easy.
Professor Youngman is extremely insensitive to her students. It is as if she believes that her class is the only class that matters and that students do not have other classes/homework to do. The amount of work she gives is ridiculous. I wish she was more understanding of how hard juggling school and life can be, especially during a pandemic.
Don't take her unless you have absolutely no choice, makes her class more difficult than it has to be. She's a tough grader and isn't very fair.
She's incredibly sweet and passionate about what she teaches. I've had her for multiple courses. This course material isn't difficult - it's the gazillion essays. The tests are essay format and so is all of the homework. Honestly, it makes the course tiring because you have so many word counts and citations to meet.
Dr. Youngman doesn't seem to care about responding to students' emails until about five days later. Also, she frequently posted our weekly work and tests late. She's also very biased and only teaches from her political standpoint. She also gives lotssss of readings and hour long videos that we have to watch. Don't take her class.
I took this class during the pandemic and it was hard. She never gave any notes, she only gave you chapters and articles to read as well as videos. She gave study guides but did not help. Her tests had unreasonable time limit and the questions didn't match up to the info given. She also barely respond to emails.
Didnt reply to emails for at least a day and a half if she even replied at all. Questions on the tests were worded in a very confusing way. There would be questions on the quizzes and tests that would not be in the information she gave us to study. Would not recommend taking her class!
This is my third course for the third semester in a row with Dr. Youngman. She is incredibly patient and caring. This course is book-heavy, but it's genuinely interesting. There have been a few quizzes so far, but they're not difficult. They're just meant to ensure you read the material. If you ever need help, she's very willing to work with you!
Dr. Youngman is a sweet lady and lectures well. If you want to pass her class with an A, just go to class, do the readings, and study a little. Also, make sure you are up to date with what you're learning in class, because she loves discussions. Grades are easy reading quizzes and 4 tests (test 1, midterm, test 3, final). The final is cumulative.
I took Ms. Youngman at the height of the pandemic, and while it was difficult to transition at first, she did her best to ensure the students knew exactly what she expected and was very lenient if you had any issues. Super funny during lecture. Everything basically came out of the textbook for her tests, so make sure to read, read, read.
i loved this class so much, and she is so good at what she does. you get a quiz after pretty much every class, and if you went to the lecture you shouldn't have a problem. her lectures are really interesting, so it's easy to pay attention. one of my favorite classes this semester!
Great teacher overall, I took her in Fall 2019 I really enjoyed Mrs. Youngmans class, her test cover everything she says even though she is very vague. If you study you will pass. very interesting, you will want to attend class, also you have a quiz every week, but they're fairly easy
She gives a ridiculous amount of work. Gets behind on grading but expects you to keep up. Likes for students to be in class. Doesn't respond to emails very often or swiftly. Would not recommend taking this class if you are not mentally strong or good at writing, although this class is suppose to teach you.
Amazing introductory course, I took her soc 101 in the Fall of 2018 and I loved the class. It covers a lot and she makes it easy to keep a good grade as long as you can keep up with a normal course pacing. Really makes you open your mind to thinking about the world in context if you didnt prior.
This course was much more intensive than her soc 101 course, as its much more like an english/writing course, but she still did a good job at conveying what she set out to teach us. My only problem was with her was her harsh grading criteria, like when she marked off a part of a sentence in one of my book reviews for being too formal.
Most overwhelmingly unnecessary intense courses I've ever taken at SLU. Classwork isn't difficult, but there is ALOT if you keep with HW you will pass because it accounts 40% of your grade. The positive thing is that she gives allow 2nd attempts. If you respect your MENTAL HEALTH BEWARE ;/ YOU WILL WORK IN THIS CLASS. IM GLAD it's OVER :)
This was a horrible class. She is a horrible communicator and does not clearly say what she wants for assignments but as soon as you turn it in shes very clear on what she didnt want. I wouldnt recommend her to anyone and dont take her unless you have to
There is one quiz a week, and 4 tests. She gives a lot of information and is very helpful when you ask questions. There is a lot of reading, you read about one to two chapters a week in the text book. She will give extra reading other than in the textbook sometimes too, but not too often. Very opinionated too, but overall a nice teacher.
LET ME TELL YALL- ask anyone from the fall 2021 class they will say NEVER TAKE HER CLASS!!! She does not respond to emails at all and never tells you what you did wrong or how to fix it. DO- NOT- TAKE- THIS- CLASS. PERIODDDDDD!
if you don't agree with her political opinion you wont pass, she lectures about things irrelevant to what's on the test, grades papers very hard. I would NEVER take her again, she is disorganized and only teaches her political opinion. I learned nothing except what she believes. One of the WORST professors I've had. She also gives a lot of HW.
I did not like her class at all. Her test were nothing like her study guides. We had a reading quiz every week and a test almost every two weeks. Plus a final for all Sociology classes which I was not aware of until last minute. If you take her class be aware of the test styles.
This class was awful. It was so unorganized and the professor was not respectful to her students. Very unclear grading criteria for assignments as well.
I went to every class, participated in every activity, turned in every assignment on time. I was 0.24 away from the lowest A and she WOULD NOT ROUND IT UP. Very liberal so I wouldn't recommend it, has lots of opinions she should keep to herself. When taking her tests ask yourself: "What would she want me to put, instead of what would I put."
Had a better time in this than her soc 203 course but I would not say it was quite as good as her soc 101 course. There are lots of assignments and readings, the textbook readings arent required but they certainly help you pass and understand whats happening in class. She also tries to get students engaged through occasional class discussion.
This might be the most intensive workload I have ever been given in a college class. Back to back papers with a boatload of homework assignments peppered in, Dr. Youngman grades intensely and submits it back for you to get a better grade...but if you don't make a second submission you'll get a zero for your work. Avoid taking this one if possible.
Great teacher but her tests were sorta confusing if you didnt read the books. Make sure you watch ALL videos and read ALL articles!! She makes short answers based off them! The exam was not too difficult because some questions were past test questions. I ended with an A. L
