Once you get past her accent, the class is easier to follow. It's a tough course, but this woman is great. Her views of the world are very opinionated and its fun to watch her go on her tangents sometimes.
this class is very interesting. nicoleta really wants her students to learn. attend class and pay attention and you will do well.she always gives you a chance to earn extra credit.
Teacher is very hard to understand, here english is...ok but she talks real real quick which makes it worse. But you are aloud to use your notes on the test which helps a lot, plus theres a huge curve 60% is a C and so on. The class is also very very boring.
You either get this class or you don't. She offers extra credit but the test problems can be pretty random. At first her ramblings about certain issues are kind of entertaining but then they get extremly old and can be offensive. She is set in her ways and refuses to accept others opinions.
Her accent is a bit thick, but she's quite nice, and the times I needed extra help, she was useful. Hard subject, but a good teacher
Great teacher I took her twice. In 231 she gives 2 papers and 2 test in 205 she gives 4 test and both classes our total grade is out of 100 points. My sister took her and barely came 2 class and failed ALL her test but got a C cuz apostal is that cool. my sister juz sent her a email telling her she really wanted a C out of the class
At first I wasn't sure if I would like the class or the teacher, but she turned out to be very nice, helpful and resonable. Tests were fairly easy if you attended class. Lectures were interesting and got off topic on a regular basis, but it was very enjoyable discussion. If you need a teacher to hold your hand, this is the wrong one for you.
Boring professor, set her ways and not open to any of her students' ideas. Her accent is thick and hard to understand, especially with complicated material. Also, tends to go off on tangents that have nothing to do with class. Tests are difficult. This class was terrible, you either understood it completely or not at all. Hated it more than MATH101
Logic was hard but she's so smart and made things easy to understand. Half the class got A and B. Don't know what the other posters are talking about. Guess that when you don't get logic and math 101 you blame her accent. She explains everything many times, posts all stuff on blackboard. Check her ratings at College of Dupage to see how cool she is
Good class, really nice woman, very intelligent and friendly. Got an an A but also took her for PHIL105 so I knew half the material already. 75% for B, so it's easy B if you dont mind using your head. Gives fun puzzles for extra credit. No attendance but go to class to do well.I actually learned a lot from her.I'll take her for 231 next semester.
She is very intelligent, also has an accent but it doesn't bother me. She assigns two journal entries per week so get your textbook. (theres a lot of reading) tests are ok.
She is a really nice lady and very inteligent. There is a lot of reading but overall the class is easy if you take good notes and come to class. I would deffinatly take a class with her again.
She is a good teacher, but it can be hard to understand her at times. In the class she talks about useless stuff. In the beginning there is no need to attend class expect right before the exam. There are only two exams in the class. Overall a good class to take. Just not at 8 in the morning.
If you have any kind of interest in Philosophy take this professor and make sure to attend class. You won't regret it.
She was extremely knowledgeable and has a passion for the topic. Many of her lectures were extremely interesting, and she would say really cool facts all the time. I didn't go more than half of the time and I got an A. Didn't use the book either, everything she says is in the book, but she explains it much better. Tricky at first, but so easy later.
Pretty easy. Grades are based on five 20 point tests and one point is one percentage. There is extra puzzles offered, and extra credit for attending class. I highly recommend this teacher. She is very smart and interesting.

Only actually grade are 5 tests. But gives atleast 1 extra credit opportunity per test. I got an A and didn't show up for last month of class, including the final. Theres extra credit on every test. Once you get past the accent, the class is a breeze.
She is really awesome and keeps my attention during the class.
She's a hoot! Favorite class quote: "He is like Britney Spears -- Oops I did it again!" Not a hard class, not exactly what I was expecting, but Apostol makes it worthwhile. Look out for the end of semester though, she might logic you into becoming a vegetarian! Worked on me.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS TEACHER!!!! She is so funny and exciting in every class period and I am always excited to go to her class. Everyone should DEFINITELY take this class. You won't regret it!!!
It worth to take her class. Much better then others professors in PHIL 231
I absolutely LOVE this teacher!! She talks really fast but love the issues we discuss. Grade is based on 2 hmwk assignmts, and 3 exams. If you know your theorists or read the sections in the book and know how to apply them in short paragraph form for the exams, you should easily Ace or get a B out the class. Gives extra credit for coming everyday
Mrs. Apostol was a very good teacher, she had a lot of opinions and was great whenever one wanted to have an intellectual discussion, she was very helpful when needed and she had a lot of opportunities for extra credit. She may say you dont need to come to class, BUT COME TO CLASS IT IS WORTH IT AND MAKES IT EASIER!!!!!
Hands down, the best professor I have ever had so far. She gives out extra credit a lot, and going to class will help you understand her tests. If you go to every class, she will remember you and will give you an A and you don't have to take the final. Only 3 exams total including the final and 2 take home assignments. Take her! So easy
She's one of those teachers you WANT to hear lecture. She brings so much more expertise to the class than what we'd learn from the book alone, and is more dedicated than most other teachers to making sure we take away someting meaningful from the class. Very helpful with questions. Excellent professor...best of the best.
Great teacher easy to understand
She's a great teacher who definitely cares about your grades. The only bad thing is her accent. But other than that she is a great teacher!
Pretty common sense class, if you go you'll understand it a lot more easily. She's very helpful during her office hours and isn't that bad too look at for a older chick haha
She talks really fast and it is hard to understand her. To get a good grade in this class you have to really attended and understand the first month of class. Other then late, 4/5 tests are open book.
She has a wonderful personality and is so energetic. However, she is extremely hard to understand. There isn't any homework, just exams which are ridiculously difficult. It also makes it difficult to get a good grade. She definitely doesn't want anyone failing her class, but doesn't put a lot of effort in on to help you steer clear of it.
This lady is crazy... in a good way! She is just a ball of energy. Class is so entertaining. Her accent just makes it all the better. She rambles and rambles to the point where it's a bit hard to follow, but just take notes and you'll be fine.
Fun class, if you pay attention and do the homework it should be an A.
Great class great professor. She's very smart and energetic. Subject will get you thinking. Attend class or you miss all the fun.
Class was easy and interesting. She gives you points for attendance, so SHOW UP TO CLASS! Tests were hard but the way she grades makes it easy to get an A. She also does not care if you text or eat in class. Attend class and you will pass. One of my favorite teachers so far!
Nicoleta is an awesome teacher. When I went into the class the first day, I was scared of her. But she is funny and essentric, not to mention deep thinking. Her Romanian accent is HEAVY but she is worth listening to and learning from.
Love this teacher! She is very intelligent and has a lot of interesting knowledge to share. Not to mention she's a straight up babe.
LOVED this teacher, she taught me so much & has a great way of making you think of everyday events in a bigger way. I personally found the class challenging but if you go to all the classes you have a good chance of earning more extra credit.
Make sure you buy the book! It will help you through the class and to take her tests. She was an awesome teacher and really helpful. I enjoyed going to her class just to hear her talk. Don't worry about taking note everything you need to know is in the book@
Excellent teacher. Makes the topics interesting. Very helpful. Must have book if you want to do well.
she is a very good teacher. i took her class online and her syllabus would cover everything and the class is very reasonable.
Best teacher I've ever come across at NIU. I've never learned more in life than this class. I've recommended all my friends to take it. Such a wise and inspirational woman.
Very interesting professor. Love taking class with her. Very knowledgeable of the class topic. Not too much HW. Fair grading. Fair amount of assignments.
Do not take this course with her. She doesn't know how to teach and doesn't know how to speak English. Aside from that, she doesn't have any notes, power points, etc. She stands in front of the class and makes things up as she talks. Oh and her class is a total of 100 points with a total of four assignments. She is a tough grader as well.
Nicoleta is by far the best teacher NIU has to offer. Her classes are interesting and I would recommend this class to anybody! Not only is the information she cover eye opening but she will help students along the way. She was always available during office hours and would give you feed back through emails. I wouldn't leave NIU without taking her.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU WILL REGRET IT. THE CLASS IS EXTREMELY HARD AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. SHE HAS A NICE PERSONALITY BUT AS FAR AS GRADES GO, THIS CLASS IS VERY HARD TO PASS. EVEN WITH HER CURVE ON HER GRADING SCALE THIS CLASS IS STILL HARD TO PASS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.
This is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. She was really cool at first and I was getting over 100% and then she graded really hard. All she does is stand in front of class and talk about nothing. Only 4 assignments and she Grades really hard on them especially if you don't take her point of view on the assignments.
Very passionate and smart teacher, very cool too. NO textbook, all articles are free online. Two easy tests - all questions are from the articles or from her summaries. Two assignments where you apply ethical theories , and she has online examples how to do it. Easy B, doable A.
By far one of the worst teachers I have ever taken at NIU. Attendance is not mandatory, you do not use a textbook, and in class exams are very rigorous. In this class you either understand it or you will be completely lost. She stands in front of the class and explains things with no actual reasoning behind it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Nicoleta is by far the best teacher I've ever had (transfer student). I actually looked forward to this class each week. Attendance is not mandatory, but people who did not attend regularly were very obviously lost of exam days. Exams are kind of challenging, but she offers a TON of extra credit.
Worst teacher i've ever had, all she does is rant about nothing. hardly ever discusses the topic. couldn't understand her what so ever. would absolutely NOT recommend her.
All the comments saying her class is hard are by far wrong! I got 110% in her class. I showed up, listened and read the text she posted to read. Did I mention you don't have to spend any money on a textbook because its all online! She teaches in a way that sticks. Because that I had little to no studying outside of class!
Nicoleta is a gem. I took both Phil 205 Logic and 231 Ethics with her. Her classes are eye opening and brain stimulating, never a dull moment. Enjoy!
There is no textbook to follow and she just goes on rants the whole time. Her accent can be hard to understand many times. At first it was entertaining, but after two weeks it just got boring. I dropped the class after attempting (and failing) to write the paper without any actual guidance from her.
she's a great teacher I love her class but I dislike that she only gives two assignments and into grades and it's like a final in the midterm with a dislike because it doesn't give you enough time to improve your grade in when you ask her for help for assignments you can only ask for certain questions
She may be hard to understand, but she does manage to get her point across to her students. If you go to class everyday sometimes she gives out extra credit. It's usually simply things like signing in or doing simply in class problems. There's two tests including the final, and online quizzes. If you have any questions, then just email her.
I honestly enjoy this class. She does have a rather strong accent but can be easily understood. She is a very knowledgeable woman and listening to her speak about this subject is interesting. There are only 2 exams for the class and some online assignments (hard to get lower than 100% on). No book. If you go to class and listen, you'll be good.
If you took Phil 101 andor Phil 105 with Apostol, this class will be an easy A. She is very simple and can work with your schedule if you need it. Her lectures can be amusing and interesting, other days it can be boring. Make sure you ask questions if you do not understand the material, because she will tell you to refer back to her old lectures.
Honestly, I did not enjoy this class at all. I was very excited to take it but I felt as though she ruined it. In my opinion the way she explains things are confusing because she over explains them to the point that you have no idea what she is talking about anymore. Also, her reading are very hard to interpret and she has only two exams.
Good class but tough. Lots of reading and thinking. Nicoleta is so smart and knowledgeable you have to be really fast to keep up with her. She also taught math and econ. Cool topics, very current. 8 quizzes online, 2 tests, one group home assignment. The articles are free, she does summaries in cool logical format.
Fascinating professor with great personality and lots of useful information. Very dense lectures but she gives clear summaries and tells great stories. She has traveled around the world and has real business experience. It really opened my eyes, best class I took in all the years as a student. She's also best dressed!
The best professor i have had so far. She is inspirational and cares about what she is saying. She has a strong accent which makes you pay attention that much more. She is very eye opening and promotes critical thinking. Very funny as well.
I respect this woman very much. She stands by what she says and is a very intelligent woman. Go to her classes and she will notice. If you show up to class and actually listen, you will learn a lot.
She is an amazing women with some amazing stories to share. She knows her stuff and she will talk the entire class but her lectures are pretty enjoyable. Attendance isn't mandatory but she'll notice if you never show up. Read the books and attend lecture so the tests aren't that hard. I still struggled on the tests about ethical theories, though.
She is very understanding if you have problems with software issues or finishing assignments on time. You are expected to do the homework on time and she gives amazing feedback on your work. The assignments consist of quizzes and class discussions. Try your best on them and she will give you credit. For a non-phil major, the class was interesting
Lectures were very long and boring. Tests were difficult, but she helps in any way that she can. She is a great teacher but I wouldn't recommend this class.
The class covered a lot of material, make sure to study for test. you will pass if you go to classes and look over the book. Do the homework she assigns which is basically reading material, its not too hard and youll take a quiz after. shes not boring for the most part, class wasnt too bad overall
I was very weary when I saw the syllabus considering it was based on tests. She is very knowledgable and gives you a lot of good information. The class got a lot better after the quiz portion of your grade. Don't miss class because she mentions stuff that is important for tests and gives extra credit randomly.
If you can read then you will pass easily. Most questions on the test were right out of the book (They're all open book tests by the way). Extra credit is handed out often for those who show up to class. Some questions on the test are only covered in class and not in the book.
She gives fantastic lectures that kept me looking forward to the class every day. She is opinionated and knowledgeable, and was always interesting to listen to. A mix of paying attention in lecture and reading the textbook is required to get an A, but you could easily just read and pull off a B. I highly recommend the class and the prof.
She is a phenomenal teacher that gave very interesting lectures. She lets you miss class three times without taking points off but you won't even want to miss her class. Quizzes are online. Tests are open book. The final isn't comprehensive. That's all you need to know about this class.

Professor Nicoleta Apostol is an amazing teacher. She is very passionate about the topics she lectures about and keeps it interesting.
She is such a fair teacher. Offers lots of extra credit, especially for coming to class. I only took two tests in this class, one online and one in class. Take notes during lectures! She has a heavy accent and the material can be difficult if you do not show up to class or try to understand it.
I took Phil 101 before 231 (with a different professor) and did well.. this class however made little to no sense to me. Her teaching style is very different and the way she words things on tests, quizzes, and power points is unclear. Attending lecture is crucial because you'll take notes on what she says rather than the powerpoints. NEED the books
Online, open-book tests. Coursework was not too hard at all. Overall enjoyable class.
Professor Apostal made this class very easy to get a good grade. The first half of the clasts consists of 8 quizzes which are all online and take home. There is one in class test that is open book and the final is online. She offered a lot of extra credit for those who showed up to class. She was very passionate about what she was teaching.
Nicoleta is hilarious and very passionate about her class. She helps you understand really difficult concepts by making them more relatable. If there is any confusion, during a rare occurrence, she will be sure the class clearly understands before moving on.
Your grade is reliant on quizzes and test scores. There is one paper in the class and do not put it off. The questions are the quizzes and tests are philosophical by nature and require a lot of thinking. You need to read and re-read everything twice before taking any quiz or test.
I took this as an online course. She makes the syllabus very accessible and her grading criteria is very clear. You know your deadlines and how many points you can earn. Great at responding back to questions! The questions are right out of the textbook, so its nothing terrifying. Just make sure you work in increments. Procrastinating wont work.
I'm in her class now. She's pretty cool not your typical professor but speaks very fast so pay attention. Class is easy to get A because quizzes are online so you can use the book and she gives most answers during lectures. Topics are interesting and she is very energetic gives lots of interesting examples. I really really enjoy it.
Professor Apostol really knows what she is talking about. She relates what you are learning with examples going on in the real world which makes things more interesting and meaningful. She is very kind and really wants her students to pass. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Fine class, but emailed about getting my grade up and got an extremely rude response. Not only did she insult my intelligence and test grades but she belittled me and how I did in her class. Extremely disappointed and would love to report her somewhere.
Literally the worst professor ive ever had. She makes no sense and belittles her students. ive asked her for things before and she makes you feel terrible for asking fair questions. she marks down papers for no reason and does not use a rubric. She rewrites everything in broken english so you cant find it in the book. have all As except this class.
if you take this online class... be ready to invest $40 in course hero for test answers or buy the textbook in a digital format. this was by far THE HARDEST class I've ever taken. she words questions so weirdly and the time limit given for exams is not enough for you to make sense of what she's trying to ask.
OMG, this was a literal class from hell. Her tests were so confusing for her wording on them. When you ask for clarification she gives no answers or help. You have to read the most dry readings in the world, no study guides or anything. She was incredibly rude the whole semester. Don't take her!!! Online course
The readings are confusing and the tests are very specific. There were 2 discussions and the feedback given made no sense. You are given no help. During COVID-19 we were given 1 week extension and she acted like she was the nicest professor ever for that gift.
Too many tests that are due by the same day and relies too heavily on the textbook
I do not know why people thought this class was difficult. All of the information is directly from the textbooks and the answers could be found by using ctrl+F. She said you should read the texts several times before attempting the quizzes, but you don't need to. Extra credit on the last quiz. Honestly very little coursework for a 300 level, easy A
