Dr. Rose's class is rediculous. She is never willing to compromise with her students. Has an attitude problem and has no compassion. You would be wise not to take her class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I worked so hard and was sick most of the semester and she didn't care one bit. Got a C and I am an A student. Outrageous work load and attitude. More worried about MLA then anything anyone has to say.
(Notice that one of the students who rated Dr. Rose as a bad teacher misspelled "ridiculous.") She tells you EXACTLY what's expected of you and she is very helpful. And to top it off, she's a hottie! :)

Hard class. You just have to work hard and make sure you talk to her if you have any questions. She sets out all her rules on the first day of class so if u have an issue with missed work.. it's all your failt.

Dr. Rose is a horrible lady. she is not willing to help at all. she picks favorites every other day. when she gives a review for an exam, study everything opposite she tells you because what she tells you is not on the test. she is very UNPLEASANT.
This class is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Very hard to talk communicate with, without feeling inferior or completely dumb. She is firm with her decisions and unwilling to compromise. Its either Dr. Rose's way, or the failing way!

She was a nice teacher....this is college and she is suppose to challenge us, and it was a challenge. I got a C, but it was because I deserved it, not because she "hated" me. She was always very nice, and she only got a little snappy with ignorant people. It happens! I would take her again!!

Dr. Rose is a good teacher, but her attitude ruins it. At times she snaps at students, if you participate in class she will favor you a lot more but be prepared because if she doesnt like your opinion she'll let you know it. She doesn't grade on if she likes you. I got in A, but it was kind of hard.

Dr. Rose is by far the best teacher I have had...she challenged her students! I barely passed her class. She does give a lot of in-class essays and maybe 2 out-class essays. Her class is somewhat easy if u follow her guidelines..
She spends about 1% of the time on the actual reading and the rest of the time yelling over essays and proper grammar. Then she goes on about how it's about the reading. This woman seeks only to fail people and then say how hard she tried to help. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

I felt Dr. Rose made the class more difficult than it had to be. The powerpoint presentation lectures were boring. She seemed a little disorganized.
I am a dean's list student and after the midterm feared I was going to get a D in her class.She made the midterm after the withdrawl date which sucked.she's very unneccessarily mean and acts like she's teaching at Harvard.I discourage anyone from taking any of her classes.She apparently has something to prove.
She is very strict, but once she gets to know you she warms up. Seems to play favorites, though. A little too strict and too much homework but I enjoyed her class. If you stick with it and try hard you will do fine.
Avoid any of Dr. Roses classes at all cost. Her style of teaching is absurd and its unfortunate that she has tenure. Her assignments are rediculous, and she'll assign 3 essays at once, 2 on one story, one debate, AND shes expecting 2 different books read durin that time frame. She kicks students out her class if they dont have the book read, AVOID!

I took this class Fall 2005 and it was awful. She definitely plays favorites and she wastes time going over things that don't need to be gone over. The readings she selected for us were incredibly boring. Her quizzes were short one word answers with questions that were so obscure. She grades based upon her interpretation of something.
Dr. Rose is a very difficult teacher, but as a previous rater stated, "if you work hard and stick with it, you will succeed". This class kicked my butt, but I managed a A at the end. In order to succeed, read everything when it is assigned and do the very best you can on writing assignments. Also, see her in her office. She respects that effort.

Very strict, very firm. It is very difficult to recieve an A or B on one of her papers. But she is fair in that she is hard on everyone, not just some students. In class, she is entertaining and funny, which goes a long way.

This was the worst professor I have ever had. She never prepared for class and was extremely demanding of her students. She actually called people out in front of the class for not doing their homework. She is on a power trip and is in the wrong line of business. Trust me, pick someone else.

She seemed very harsh, always in a bad mood when she came in the classroom. A somewhat fair grader, but took off too many points for tiny mistakes. Otherwise was very engaging in her lectures, and kept things on the student's level with modern examples. She wasn't as cordial as I would have liked, and I had to work very hard in her class.
Terrible, terrible teacher. As hard as she makes the assignments, the most difficult part of this class is dealing with the teacher. Very proud (doesn't seem to understand that she is capable of making a mistake -- and, believe me, she makes MANY mistakes). Do not take this class if you want your grade to reflect how much you put into the course.

Literature is my thing and this is the only lit class I haven't taken at GPC and found this class nearly immpossible. Drop the class and spare yourself the frustration. My class began with 25 or so students and in the end there were only about 8 of us. Please take my advise..I didn't listen to ratemyprofessor and regret it.

I have never had an instructor as condesending as this one. THe honors 1101 an 1102 I took were nothing compared to this. WAY too much work per week and totally subjective grading. Do not take this instructor. Skip a semester if you have to.

I am a network engineer and I understand discipline. Ms. Rose wants all her students to revere 'world literature' as much as she. I took the online course, and the weekly assignments were beyond reasonable. Read 60 pages, take a quiz, answer 5 essay questions on the msg board, & 5 more questions in a separate assign. Grading depends on the day.
This was the worse teacher I have ever had. I took her online and she is very demanding in her work and doesn't care. Her grading was really strict depending on her mood. Will never take her again!!!

this class is going to be one of the easiest or the hardest class. be ready to listen to all the directions she will give bc that will matter the most when writing papers. there is an analytic paper which is almost impossible. good luck. i would not recommend taking this class.
This teacher is HORRIBLE!!! I am taking her for summer humanitites, and she gives a TON of work and grades really hard. Her quizzes suck because she gives you way more questions than time to take it, and they are fill in the blank! DO NOT TAKE HER! All of the Dr. Rose haters are just mad because she makes you work. She is hard, but this is college! I learned more in her class than I did in high school! Dr. Rose is horrible. If you take this class be prepared to only take her class! I am taking a full load, but spend most of my time on her class! She is rude, and very inconsiderate. Dr Rose is a serious, but wonderful professor who will constantly challenge you to do your best. If you are serious about your education take her. If you want to sail by without putting in any effort, she is not the professor for you. The class just gets better with time.....Loved her!

The discussion assignments were bogus, your answers are never good enough even if they are thorough. Took her class online. I don't think her grading scale was fair. Tests and quizzes were easy though. I wouldn't take her again.
Ok...this woman is satan incarnate. she belongs in the deepest circle of hell with Judas, Brutus, and Cassius. I passed her class...but she is literally the meanest,most spiteful person I have ever met. Every day she would come in and grunt a hello to the class. At the end of the semester there were not even TEN students remaining.
I asked this professor for help in understanding an assignment. All she was interested in was giving lectures on making sure you address her as Dr Rose, but she wants to address you by your first name.Her lecture notes for online are basically useless. She has no people skills. I had to drop the class due to her lack of personal skills.

I withdrew from her online HUMN 1301 class in an effort to protect my 4.0 GPA. She is an overbearing, uncompromising professor who seems to have a disdain for teaching. She makes no qualms about giving students Ds and Fs on assignments that are deserving of As and Bs. My advice, choose another professor if you really care about your GPA.

Dr. Rose is a hard grader in Humanities. She expects students to learn 2 chapters a week!!!And the assignments are open Monday @8am and due Friday @5pm. Also a trip to the Carlos Museum is mandatory and the report is a large portion of your grade. If I am taking an online class there is no way I have time to go on a fieldtrip!!DO NOT TAKE :(

PLEASE DON NOT TAKE HER.... you will have to devote all of your time and effort into this one class and still have nothing to show for it. Its like she expected us to be Art Majors... the discussions are pointless and you only have 12 minutes to do your exam even though the questions that are on there are barely in the chapters assigned.

She thinks this is the only class; gives insane amounts of homework; is completely inflexible about EVERYTHING; gives you 0% if you post only 19/20 discussion qns; gives you 0% if she is not impressed with your completed 20 posts!
I was having nightmares after seeing all of the homework assignments, my neck and back had began hurting from being so stressed about trying to get the assignments posted on time. Dr. Rose I understand she's trying to get her point across but she's a little bit ridiculous. I would not recommend her unless you have all the time in the world.

I've was in the class for two weeks this semester online and after receiving my first discussion and assignment grades, decided to withdraw. She graded very harshly when art is supposed to be perceptive. If I look at the Mona Lisa and don't see anything spectacular that's my perspective. Smh. I'll try another teacher in the Summer session. Avoid !
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! unless you're getting you PHD in Art History, and have 16+ hours a week for this class alone, I did not receive a grade higher than a "C" and I am near graduation with a 4.0. I did not receive clarification on what I was doing wrong in the class. She just copied and pasted what she has listed in the syllabus.

I am not lazy or a slacker. I know that this is college, and not high school. But seriously, this woman is mean. I withdrew from this class 5 weeks after seeing her attitude firsthand. On her tests, the students did bad on them, because they came from a book that wasn't available anywhere else and we had to take a test everyday on it. Do not take!!
Dr.Rose is cool. She tells you everything straight up! In World Lit expect to read, and be quizzed (no multiple choice) almost every class!! If one does what they're expected to do , there is no way to fail this class!!!

This class would have brought me down. She gave assignments on a book that was extremely impossible to get. Save your money.
I'm in a online half semester and have been spending 20 plus hours a week on her assignemtns and discussion and so far I have yet to make an A. And cut off time to have your work is Friday night so forget about doing work on Fridays and Saturdays. She is very critical of your work. If you can avoid taking her class I highly recommend it.
At around week 2, we started to notice it; Cracks, in what we thought was a solid professor. Later on the cracks would widen and then came the coloring. The façade was pealed away until one day we were shocked by what was revealed.Humpty Dumpty….a broken shell of a person.
Had her for a study abroad to Jamaica. Had a great time, but she is critical! Expect English papers and to have to read. Great person and enjoy the class. Did not read one out of five books, made a 71% on the essay she assigned, and received a B in the class.
It IS possible to pass this class. But Dr. Rose does not ease up on ANYTHING. There was a quiz every day for us students, no Study Guide for Midterm & Final. And worse, her questions forced you to read & memorize the text so you'd know everything important and obscure. You should only pick this teacher's class if you're an expert at memorization.

Dr. Rose is an amazing professor. I came into the class with an arrogant attitude about what I thought I knew about english. I learned more in this class than I have in my entire college career. If your a person who values education I would highly recommend Dr. Rose!
Dr. Nicolette Rose is a phenomenal Professor. When I first met Dr. Rose, I thought that her class would be extremely hard due to her standards. Dr. Rose is a very thorough instructor. I really enjoyed how she got us to vocalize our thoughts on each reading.
Do your self a favor and do not take this woman. EXTREMELY vague and takes off points for things that she never specified. I worked 16+ hours a week on this class and barley got a B. I have no clue why this woman is a teacher because she seems to hate teaching even more than her students. Work that would get you a 100 in most classes only get a C.
Do Not take her! This lady sets a very high standard of expectation on her students. A toughestpickiest essay grader I've ever met in my life. Expect LOTS of assigned reading because 98% there will be a quiz on your next class meeting. Her class policies are as ridiculous as your high school's. She will definitely show no mercy on your grade.
DR. Rose's class was probably the hardest I have ever taken and it was online. Her assignents questions did not match the figures in the book. There is a lot of reading. When students email her to ask question about an assignment, she is not helpful at all about it. I would not take her again
WOW is all i can say. It was an online class, the questions for the discussion posts were numerous. We had to at least 30 to 35post a week plus a 14 to 16 questions assignment and quizzed for both chapters. ALL IN ONE WEEK. Do not take her! An online course is not supposed to be that difficult. Tough grader, never made an 80 in her class.
Dr. Rose's class was the toughest class I have ever taken online for GPC. I did this class this summer and I don't think that people who have other priorities should take this class because it will take up a lot of your time. I have bags under my eyes from how much work she gave us. This is not a class that I would want to do over. BEWARE!!!
Most unhelpful teacher I have ever had. Unresponsive, unwilling to help. Work load is very high, the class is seemingly easy in the material, yet she grades ridiculously tough. No one makes an A. I gave this class more time and effort than any other class before and still got a B. I strongly advise you to choose a different instructor.
She gives quizzes at the beginning of every class to teach her students to be on time. (Helpful in the long run). I took the Honors section of her class which meant more work than regular. This is a tough class, push yourself and you will be proud of your accomplishments. I worked very hard and I got an A, that I am proud of because it was tough.
This teacher was the worst one I have ever had. I probably know more about art than she does from my AP Art History class in high school. She downgrades assignments that should be A's to C's, and she is completely unwilling to provide help. I suggest you NEVER take this class, as the workload and organization of it is just as bad as its teacher.
This class is the most shocking and repulsive experience I have ever had the displeasure of being apart of in my life. The behavior exhibited towards me was abhorrent and hostile, as she threatened expulsion when I asked for a reconsideration of a grade that I had unfairly earned due to vague directions on an assignment. I participated in the Study Abroad Jamaica trip with her, and it was a wonderful and life changing experience. All of the readings she assigned were very entertaining as well as educational. Dr. Rose is a tough professor because she cares about her student's, she wants you to push yourself and stop looking for the easy way through life.

If you want a class that will allow you to skim the material and still pass, you're barking up the wrong tree. But if you actually want to LEARN (and if you don't, why bother with college?), then go for it. I worked VERY HARD for my A.

The structure and workload of this class is very challenging, which is perfect for high productivity and aid is available. However, if you are looking for a healthy learning environment cognitively, DO NOT TAKE. Professor relies heavily on emotional manipulation, unhealthy token economy/appraisal & competition. It's subtle but ever present.
DR. Rose is one of the best professor that you will have the pleasure of meeting. You earn your grade. If you are willing to put forth "true effort" you will pass the class. Once the class is over, you will be able to say "I truly learned something." Pop quizzes is what helps you out the most.

She is not easy by a long shot but her class is worth it, now that I passed her class I feel there is no Professor out there that I can't pass. Challenge yourself!

Grading scale is intense. Takes a long time to give feedback on assignments which won't help when you have already submitted more. Be ready to read ALOT! There are chapter assignments, discussion questions, and quizzes every week which are very in depth. There is also a paper that is 20% of your grade. Definitely not an easy class to pass!
The amount of work you are required to do per week was intense and outrageous!!! Tough grader as well. I tried my hardest, but I dropped the class after three weeks. I have a 3.65 GPA and get As and Bs. It wasn't because I wasn't trying, studying, or reading, she is just tough!!
I took her for an online mini mester and IT IS THE HARDEST CLASS EVER . I graduated with a 4.0 in H.S and I cant seem to pass this class. She is a VERY tough grader and it is the most work Ive ever had . Even more than my honors English class

Dont get me wrong, this professor is very outgoing and passionate about her work but this just wasnt the class for me. I wasnt mentally ready for all reading that was required nor the quizes that followed the reading. This is an very inspirational woman and I will always remember Making the Grade but unfortunately I am not an overachiever.
Dr. Rose is a great teacher and you can tell she is very passionate about what she does. She expects people to work for their grades. You have to read 3 books, no test and 4 papers. When I read the class syllabus I knew I was in for a rude awakening . But she took off points for very trivial stuff. And definitely graded discussions very intensely. I think she could have been more of a fair grader based on if you understood the content.

However, I don't understand why she is teaching a Freshman English class; she clearly has the expectations of a much higher level class professor, but she unfairly puts these expectations on intro level students that are disheartened by their time with her. Being in Professor Roses class was a horrible experience. She would rather give you rude commentary than actual constructive criticism. She grades very tough. She does not tell you how she wants her work until after she grades the assignment. Please drop her class if you get her, dont stress yourself out. Especially if you are online.

I had professor Rose for my Intro to Humanities in the summer. It was one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken at GSU. I found her very rude and with no feedback to help me understand what was wrong with my work. I sadly had to drop her class. I wish I had seen these before I registered for her class lesson learned. This professor isn't per say "awful", but she isn't great either. Yes, she does give a lot of homework and grades tough. She has her days where she is nice and then sometimes mean. She was never really rude to me, but she is very difficult to speak to sometimes None of her work is hard you just have to do a lot of reading.

She loves giving out zeros. I have always been an avid writer, but this class is super challenging. I do the work and because it is not 100% correct she gives me zeros for the whole assignment (took hours). This has happened multiple times, and she has been falling behind with grading so I am not sure if I did it right the last time or not.
Self teach class, free time needed. Discussion, quiz, assignment every week with 3 novels to read and 3 3-page essays. She does not do lectures but offers conference appointments with her or tutoring center when you reach out for help. Most learning is from Perdue web and an online textbook, which she pastes in feedback as help. MUST KNOW MLA!
We didn't have any tests, middle term or the final. We were given the quizzes weekly. Had lots of discussion posts, she made us do whole a lot of work but she didn't even bother to grade the work. She is definitely a no "BS" teacher and can be rude at times. She mostly hates it when you make up excuses for assignments, so that means no makeups. Only had class on Tuesdays then made Thursdays for students who needed extra help with their work (i.e., essays). She provides wonderful feedback and won't stop until you get (almost) everything right

Dr. Rose sincerely cares about her students as long as they put forth effort in her class and show care and concern for her assignments. Be prepared to read and write a lot and beware that this is NOT A HIGH SCHOOL COURSE so please be mature or you will fail. Attendance is mandatory.
Wow... Of all the teachers I have ever taken at this school. She is by far the most difficult. Thick in the head is an understatement. She acts as if this class is a 4000 level course. I would rather take Organic Chemistry instead.

Overall, just not a good professor. Extremely hard, this is a freshman class and you would think she was teaching students with PHD's. Copies and pastes feedback from each week without REALLY letting you know what you did wrong, she just makes you guess. Rude too, very passive aggressive in feedback. Drop this class while you can or don't take it at all. Completely fails assignments that are not 100% correct, and what is or is not correct is up to her discretion and seems to change based on what side of the bed that she wakes up on. Can take literal months to grade assignments, yet copies and pastes all of her feedback.

Nicolette Rose's class is no walk in the park - be prepared for a heavy workload and tough grading. However, if you put in the effort and engage with the material, you can succeed. I found Unstuck study helpful for study prep alongside the class resources.

Grades VERY HARSH. The only A I got in this class was the orientation quiz. You have to use MLA for every single thing you turn in. No late work. She won't tell you what you're doing wrong, she'll just give you a bad grade. One positive is that she's very organized.

Hated this class. Ms Rose never gave feedback that made me a better writer. Very critical of opinions made in discussions. Was not clear in her explanations of her expectations on assignments. There are better teachers for this course.

Overall very difficult and passive aggressive professor. Was very harsh with students who were quieter and overall mean. Made sarcastic and misunderstanding comments. If you have the opportunity to take this class with another professor I URGE you do so unless you're prepared to endure a semester full of misguidance and lack of communication.
Dr. Rose is more than a professor. She is a life mentor and you will get more than an English Composition to learn from her class. If you attend her lectures, be punctual, and follow her instructions, then it is not hard to get an "A". But I would definitley take another English course from Dr. Rose.
