Very helpful, if you have a problem he encourages you to talk
Seems like a frustrated wannabe English professor. Too many essays for a sociology class, correcting spelling and grammar incorrectly, and making comments such as "You are wrong" on items of opinion. Take someone else!
I enjoied Nidal's teaching style. He used many types of visuals to get his point across. He was always willing to help answer any questions, and was not intimidating at all.
Good teacher. Was very helpful and his teaching style was very practical.
Teaches it as if you are all sociology majors not as a pre req course very hard. he is very repetitive and very loud when speaking
He was very enthusiastic about sociology, and made me feel the same passion. He was also adorable!
One of the best instructors I have had in college. Passioante, knows his stuff, and very helpful.

Make sure you include examples from the class in your essay. He does not like outside research for your essay's. Good class though. I strugled in proving my opinion in my writing, but still enjoyed.
He uses vidoes to teach the class when he should be teaching the class. He is a very nice professor, but I didn't like his teaching style. There were too many essays, and he liked his students to include his opinions in their essays.
This is one of the best teachers I have had. He is likes complexity and not simplicity. HAs offered my many different ways of looking at the social world! Thank you Mr. Hijazi!
He's an ok teacher. His tests were pretty hard. Way long and included essay questions along with 70 mutli choice, T/F. You have to write a lot on essay q's and remember a lot of definitions and statistics. I had some very annoying people in my class so that also made it less enjoyable.
He repeats everything many many times. boring basic lectures. if you want something beyond a highschool class stear clear. he does use videos well though.
Great work.
Taking his class this summer. I am enjoying the class and thinking of becoming a Sociology major. Makes the class interesting and it seems he really cares about the students.
I took Nidal Summer '04. I enjoyed his teaching style, except for the fact that I felt he was trying to persuade the class in believing more of his opinions. Tests were work, but worth it. Included essays on the test. For those essays make sure you read your notes, that is where your answer for the essays will be.

I thought he was a good teacher, but his tests were very hard and the essay questions were just too much for a guy like me who was just getting back into school!
I have taken both of Nidals classes, and enjoyed them. The tests for Soc 300 were harder than in 499 but I learned alot in both classes. Nidal is very passionate about sociology and it shows when he teaches. There is a movie almost once a week.

Nidal was a great professor and pretty hot too! The essays weren't easy but he definately helped out on the answers for them.
Great teacher! He is passionate about the subject, which makes for an interesting class. Exams are combination of M/C and short essay. Be sure to write a lot on the essays, even if he says you don't have to. Keep up with the reading and show up for class and you'll get an A.
He is a great teacher. If you go to class and take good notes, you should do fine in any of his classes. The tests are kind of hard, but it isn't about anything he didn't cover in class. I did not even buy the book and still got an A.
he is a great teacher, always willing to work with you. All you have to do is ask. Some of his lectures drag on and on, and seem not to make much sence. Make sure you pay attention... it will all be on the test!! =)
i strongly recommend all the people out there, dont think of taking his class. he is a **** proffesor and not helpful at alll...very very stuborn teacher..his class is so boring and he never ever jokes.his nuthin den a bull shyte

a big jerk...if ya wanna tak nidal class....u puttin yaa azzzz in a trouble..becozzz he luv to giv ya student f
waste of time...wont recommend any1
The problem with a service like this is that it sometimes attracts the most disgruntled students who would rather blame their instructor for their failure than themselves (last 4 comments made by same stud). Mr. Hijazi's class is straightforward, very interesting, and informative. Read the articles, take good notes, attend regularly, you'll be fine
the information learned was very timely and useful. very good instructor but you have to work for yoru grade. essays are tough but he works with you.
This class wasn’t that much fun. Most of the students in our class fall asleep on his first lectures. Professor Hijazi grades his students unfair. However, Mr. Hijazi is nice as a person; nevertheless, if i would have to make a choice between taking his class or someone else’s I would take someone else. Not recommended!
If you're looking for an impersonal approach to this social science this is the class for you. The lectures contain some really intriguing data which is not open for class discussion or any other interpretation, instead you simply memorize it word for word in order to use it for the exams (no notes allowed m/c & 3 essays-each).
He was helpful & graded on 3 exams & the final. I was disappointed because I got a C in the class because I got a C on everything. He makes you apply the terms and use reasoning on the essay questions. If you're like me and have a hard time putting everything down... even w/ extra time..this class isn't worth your time. But he is passionate and approachable. He'll answer your questions & go over the exams w/ you.
I have had Nidal before and he was a good teacher. When I was in academic trouble of failing his class he offered me a number of extra credit assignments so that I could pass and earned the credits. I think some people's comments about him are just a reflection of who they were as students of his. SOme people are in school just because their famil
HE IS VERY HARD TEACHER, I GIVE U 80% of ASSURANCE THAT U WILL GET A BAD GRADE IN THIS CLASS, HE MAKES U WORK A LOT
Professor Hijazin is the kind of professor that you would have if you were in a University setting. He challenges you, expecting you to absorb all or most of the information you have attained through his lecture/videos. He is not 4 every1. 20 or so people that were in the class the first day, 9 were left the last week and 3 including myself passed.
Constantly complains about not getting respect from students. Too busy with outlines of what he is going to discuss, that he never does get around to adequately discussing what he intends to. Takes attendance. Demands that you buy the book, but never uses it in class, and claims that it will not help you on the tests.
Alright, I don't know why some person wrote that he claims that the book isn't helpful on tests considering that exams are derived mainly from the text. Nidal is a great professor, he is never biased, and he always takes into account peoples views without judgement. He assigns relevant and interesting articles that enrich the course.Clear lectures.

He is a very nice person, but this class was way way to hard and detailed. His tests consisted of 70 multiple choice and two long essays, every test. It expects way to much out of his students. If soc is your major/he would be good otherwise this was the most worse, boring, stressfull class I have yet taken. Sorry Hijazi
Very experienced. Has a lot to teach you and is very flexible. A lot of reading but easy/interesting reads-
The written portion of his exams come primarily from his lectures, so try not to miss a class and take really good notes. He wants to make sure you have conceptual understanding of the ideas presented in class, so be prepared to spend lots of time studying for this class :) This class was extremely fascinating! I view the world differently now.
Interesting professor, very good, but demanding. Tests mainly come from lecture... class attendance is mandatory! Essays on exams are easy because he gives you the ?'s at the beginning of the semester, but scantron ?'s are hard. A lot of material is covered. Extra credit is hard to do if you are in school & work because it's events during the day.
Uses the class as a liberal soap box. ****es about respect while never granting any. Is frequently tardy, yet complains when others are. Tests are based off his useless lectures. The progenitor of an idea is more important than the idea (you have to memorize names to do well on tests). Is clearly biased to those who share his views. DO NOT TAKE.
I took his class this summer and absolutely enjoyed the experience. Although he is not as easy as most other instructors, he really cares about his students and is knowledgable about sociology. Very fair, balanced, and interesting. I highly recommend him but be ready to do some work. Was one of the best classes I took latly. Likes the subject.
Fun class. I learned a lot about why we do what we do and groups. Take good notes, attend regularly, got to reviews he offers and you will do well. Uses good examples to support material and enjoys teaching. As stated my many reviewers, he has high expectations but that is good.
Was in Mr. Hijaazi's popular culture class last semester. The class was interesting and he covered a variety of topics. Sttil a new class so he did tweak things as we went along and very flexible. Was happy with my grade and we had some good discussion and watched films well as listeneed to lectures. Brought food in!
Prof. Hijazi is a very animated and caring professor. His lectures are sometimes off the wall and hard to follow, but he has enthusiasm for teaching and is open to all viewpoints. He drops your lowest quiz grade (5/6) and assignment grade (4/5). The hardest part of this course was his 3 tests, which had 50-60 multiple choice and 2 essays each.
Nice guy but doesn't teach well. Wouldn't respond to e-mails and he has a weird grading system. he'll help you out if you ask, but he's hard to follow and he sais "Understand?" a lot and i wanted to say "no!" but he's a nice enough prof.
This teacher was very one sided and biased. He did not leave any lee-way for possibilities. He has his opinions and doesnt hear much else. I really wanted to hear about Sociology this semester, but instead I learned about Marxism, how muslims and arabs are victims, and how there is no G-d.. Etc.. all his opinion.
ok teacher
His teaching methods are unclear in a way that he rants about the topics, but gets off track, therefore, you lose concentration. He tests soley off his lectures which dont seem to be clarified. He's late every time, and gets mad if you're late. bad teacher. he sweats a lot.
I won't lie, this class is hard. He does his job and teaches...do your job and learn from him..why are you in college? Take notes, ask questions (especially if you don't understand something!), you will do great. The 1st exam is painful and expect lots of homework but it gets easier as you go. Talk to him-use his office hrs. I would take him again!
Prof Hijazi is a great guy. He truly cares about the material and wants everyone to succeed. Interesting lectures and loves to hear students point of view. Great help at office hour. Tests based mostly off the notes, lectures and articles(not so much the book). Im not great at sociology and I pulled a B.If you take this class you will enjoy.
This prof is nice but the class is hard. If you want a super easy A then dont take him. But if you want to learn and have an interesting discussing he is the one. Some homework and the exams have essay questions so it can be hard.
A very quality professor. His class may be hard but in all honesty their is nothing easy about the subject matter. This guy really wants you to ace his class and if your willing to care about your grade he definetly will. I highly reccomend talking to this guy outside of class about the material. Completely lecture baced exams...talk to him!!!!!
I loved his class! He is very interesting and very clear. The tests were hard because they covered so much information. They are m.c, short answer, and essay. The key is to take notes and write down and know the definitions he gives you in class, not from the book!!!! Also, go to the review sessions he gives, they will help with his essay questions
Prof. H is a great teacher. I learned a lot from him and he is very easy going and helpful. I do admit that his exams and quizes are difficult! If you work hard, you will earn a good grade! I definately recommend him!
Professor Hijazi is a great teacher and a really nice person too. He's happy to help. The class is work intensive. Tests are based mostly on lecture and class materials but read the book anyway it will really enhance the class material and it's a good text. Read your articles again right before the quiz and go to the study reviews before the test.
good teacher, makes class fun and interesting. Tests are really hard but you can pass with a C if you do all the work. Class requires A LOT of studying.
Prof Hijazi is an interesting teacher, but he is so scatterbrained. He requires you to take extensive notes, but doesn't teach in a clear way, so it's almost impossible to take clear notes. His tests are hard and getting an A is impossible. It's a 5 unit class that you only get 3 units credit for. Highly recommend finding another teacher
Prof Hijazi make his lectures interesting but he is absent minded and all over. He requires you to take extensive notes, but doesn't teach in a clear way, so it's almost impossible. His tests are hard and getting an A is impossible. Sometimes I feel he favors the minorities in the class. I HIGHLY recommend finding another teacher.
Super hard class!!! All you have to do to pass to study night and day! im telling you this class is supper hard! and he turns the lights off to leture so it make you wanna fall asleep. i had to drop the clas because i was so far behind!
Professor Hijazi is a very difficult teacher. I took his class online, and the class required so much of my time. The reason I took it online because I didn't have time, and I don't think he realized that other students were in the same boat. His lectures were scattered, grammatically incorrect, and had many misspellings. Do not take his class!!
Be prepared for lots of reading if you're taking online. Some interesting stuff but mostly just his opinions. Quizzes are fairly specific and cover 5-6 articles plus a textbook chapter each week. Kept telling us how busy he was, and took a long time to grade assignments. Would suggest a different professor.
I loved my professor. I took the online class and although he was very busy he always replied to my emails. He encouraged discussion and made sure you understood the material. I especially enjoyed the extra pdf articles he gave us to read for our article reviews. Because of Prof. Hijazi, I have decided to pursue a Sociology degree. :)
Prof. Hijazi is a great teacher! He is definitely a hard teacher, but if you're not willing to try hard and put in the work don't bother taking this class. He is both challenging and informative! If you express a need for clarity, he is more than willing to meet with you and revisit topics... Overall, I thought he was a fantastic teacher! He was not easy, but he made me feel like I was well educated in Sociology. Thank you for the opportunity to learn from you!
Nice Person, Bad Professor. Prof. was really scatterbrained. Hard tests based on memorization. I stronly felt that he favored the minorities in the class.
Do not take his class unless you REALLY want to learn sociology! His lectures are hard to follow and the homework he assigns is very challenging. The only thing I liked was where he posted articles online so we could study for online quizzes. He's a nice professor who loves to help people, but honestly, his class was way too difficult.
Professor Hijazi was pretty dependable.. answered emails promptly and explained any questions you may have especially if you see him during his office hours. Quizzes were easy as long as you studied the articles and textbook he assigned. The tests were a bit challenging and long. The essays were somewhat confusing and the guidlines were too broad.
awesome teacher. Class was based on lecture but they were very interesting. He was funny and understanding, as long as he knows you're not being a slacker. do the work, study for the tests and quizes, take good notes on lectures, and u will do fine.
Potentially my least favorite college professor out of the last 3 years I've been in college. Tests are all memorization based and ridiculous, lectures are not in order, he doesn't teach out of the book, and is very rude to multiple students in my class. I would never recommend Hijazi to any prospective students.
Interesting lectures. Hard to follow sometimes. He has power points but lecture often goes to something other than what's on the slide and it's hard to take notes on both. I enjoyed the class for someone who had no idea about anything is sociology but there are better instructors.
His lectures make zero sense. Yet he's helpful. His tests are ridiculous and the essays are insane based on memorization from lectures that it seems like he put together that morning. He's nice enough, but does talk down to students which I find extremely disrespectful. He asks for feedback after the tests and then ignores the criticism. He's odd.
His lectures are scattered, his command of the English language is atrocious, he is unreliable, undependable, takes too long to answer emails, and he uses highly inappropriate language in class. He requires you too read articles which you cannot read online because he doesn't seem to know how to properly scan them onto the computer. Thumbs down.
He has a real passion for this class but his lectures are all over the place. He is easy though and as long as you make your essay's valid then your bond to do well. The quizzes require a lot of reading but assigned reading are quite interesting. Don't even buy the textbook.. I have never even glanced at it.
I found Professor Hijazis class to be extremely challenging, but one of the best I've taken in college. Yes, he's scatterbrained. Yes, you need to come to class and do the work. But, overall - I really enjoyed his class. Anyone who complains about him is just not up to really putting the effort in.
I didn't enjoy this class, i found it hard to get into. but if you can handle monotone voice and dim lighting Professor Hijazi may be the one for you....i found it hard to make myself go to class and when I did I had a hard time staying awake.
Be prepared to take a lot of notes!! but good luck doing that because he is really hard to follow sometimes...he doesn't really have an organized way of presenting what he is talking about and he still uses an overhead projector. when he lectures he actually complicates simple points by using a lot of words. I would not recommend him.
Took this class online and loved it. It was a LOT of reading, but I actually learned a ton. I found the exams pretty easy so long as you tried to really understand the readings and the concepts. Even though it's open book, you can't just try to breeze through the quizzes. They require good understanding of the material.
Great class. He made the material come alive and is interesting. One of my favorite classes. Take the class if you are motivated and want to learn. He introduces many perspectives and he cares about his students.
It was my first soc. class and did learn much. Got a good grade in the class. Read the textbook, take good notes, and show up to class.... I would have been lost without being there. Also, in the class I was in, there were a few students who were being inconsiderate and rude he did put a stop to their bad behavior. Shocked but still a good class.
Class is super BORINGGGG!! It is hard to prepare for the multiple choice questions for the exams, but the essays are easy because he goes over them. Cool guy, but very boring.
A dedicated educator with a warm demeanor and great sense of humor.
AS far as online courses, hope someone would teach him how to use powerpoint correctly. Not really clear and his quiz questions are just out of nowhere, dont take his online class, no idea how he is in person, but he cant write a test to save his life, and he wants online students to spend a min of 10 hrs a week on his class...yeah no
Excellent Professor, got me interested in my choosen field, always accessable, and easy to talk too, even after I was out of his classes.
I thought this particular teacher was helpful when it came to tests because he has his classes meet to go over what will be on the test. His tests are based on his lecture notes so i ended up waisting my money on his book. I enjoyed his class a lot but his online quizzes were challenging at times so make sure you read the articles all the way.
online class is a diseastr. he expect too much time to be put into it... way tooo much reading and quizes are so "deep" i did not spend so much time on ochem.. seriously!
Wasted money on textbook. Focus on his lecture and really pay attention in class and take notes and you'll do good on the exam. Quizzes are a little difficult (online) because the articles take forever to read but they are interesting. Prof Hizaji really know's his material and I recommend you taking his class
Class is really fun, he is very helpful. His topics are interesting but drawn out. It is an easy A, as long as you take good notes. Don't buy the book u never use it, its all notes.
His online course is atrocious. He expects 9 hours per week to be put into the homework studies, plus he can easily have you read upwards of 25 pages in addition to sometimes over 4 hours of video in a dang week. His notes make no sense and readings are impossibly slow and dull. His tests are ridiculously complicated and not enough time given.
Prof. Hijazi's notes make no sense; readings are impossibly slow/dull. He could not write a test to save his life. Tests are complicated and not enough time given. I am not complaining about the work- I don't expect an easy A. I do expect directions, instructions, tests, and expectaions to be clear consise and well written. He is to unorganized.
I don't understand these people who are saying his class is hard. He gives out extra credit like crazy and his grading is extremely generous. He is eccentric and he annoys my inner grammar nazi but he is funny, laid back, and charismatic. He made me care about Sociology.
he's not that great of a prof. he gives quizzes and assignments which are not to bad if you like to read alot. the first mid term is easy not the second. when he first starts on a subject he never really finishes it. so you have to look it up yourself. btw, dont buy the book. waste of money
Poor Nidal... needs a vacation. On one hand, he's likable with his sense of humor. On the other, his lectures are at best slow and at worst confusing. Tutoring is a must for this class, as Hijazi doesn't give you enough content during lecture. The lectures were best when his TA was leading them. Book is useless. He really needs to get on the ball.
This class is easy if you do the reading and prep for the exams. He gives you the essay prompts and identification questions way ahead of time, so if you are shocked by what's on the test, then it's your own fault. Do the reading and take the quizzes to cushion your grade. Take good notes during lecture and you won't need the book.
Only a few days into his class and already confused. His lectures are awful and he goes off topic and he is very unclear. Like others said, his sense of humor is great, teaching, not so much.
kloss was better. I wish I had dropped it at the first clue of what was to come. All these sidewise articles to read, exam is a pain unclear lecture where he pretty much just asking questions the whole time forgetting to answer many of them. he confuses you and even says thats the point of his class. feels like im teaching my self and not to well
Professor Hijazis SOC 300 ONL class was a bit tough, but he is an awesome Professor. Professor Hijazi gives EXCELLENT feedback, and you can tell he has a deep passion for Sociology. I am currently taking his SOC 300 class online, and I must say, I have learned some valuable lessons in this class. I have learned to expand my thought process on a nu
I took his class Spring 2014 semester, his teaching style was different from any other prof I had. I straight up failed the first exam but went to his office hours and got help to pull out an A. Do the extra credit, put in work and be prepared to read the book if you want an A! you can get a decent grade wo the book but if you want an A read it !
Lectures are not clear and gets out of subject. Get ready to read and like what he likes.
Although Sociology was personally not my favorite subject, Professor Hijazi made sure he showed enthusiasm and humor to keep the class interesting. He is kind and understanding of circumstances. If you take good notes, take opportunity of extra credit, and study you should have no problem, and by the end of my class I ended up really liking Soc.
Took SOC 300 Online class taught by Prof. Hijazi in Fall 2015. His expectations for his students were clear; avail via e-mail, responds quickly; well organized. 9 weekly hours of HW. Reading materials were . Timed 20 minute quizzes. Gives an extra day to do HW if there is a holiday in the week of class. Attendance & class participation is a must.
Awesome professor! Lectures are very engaging and informative. He's clear about what he expects of you. We read 3-4 articles every week (roughly 20 pgs) and take a 20 minute quiz online. He allows a cheat sheet on very one of his tests, basically the ultimate essentials to passing his class. He responds very quick which is great! TAKE HIM (:
Classes are full of lively debates/discussions. He gives 3 articles to read per week (pretty easy to do) and a quiz on them that can be kinda nitpicky but manageable. Three exams overall, with about three essay questions (which were not that hard, you only have to understand GENERAL concepts) and 50 multiple choice questions (medium difficulty).
He"s an amazing teacher! I took this class just to get full credits and I never thought I would have enjoyed this class but I absolutely did! There's just the right amount of work due in this class too keep you updated and refreshed. He's incredibly friendly and is always willing to help, which is the best!
I love him! He wants you to succeed and is there for you. He respects his students and he's fun. No book--LOTS of fascinating articles to read instead. Amazing daily class discussions. He encourages class participation and gets you thinking deeply. Class is NOT about "pop" stars. Pop culture is about the history of societies and hard to define. 3
Professor Hijazi was really cool! He assigns a lot of work in my opinion, but you learn a lot, and you can tell he is passionate about the subject. I aced his class, which was unexpected, but I won't lie, I had to work for it. If you want to learn in a stimulating, but challenging environment take his class!
Really nice & fair. The material is very interesting to learn. Definitely would recommend.
Don't take this teacher. He is nit-picky and will grade your papers harshly, no matter how hard you try.
He is a good teacher who is passionate about what he does, but be prepared to do some reading, watching videos and a fair amount of homework. He can be a bit of a tough grader, but he is clear about what he wants. I've learned a lot in this class and am glad I took it. I felt a quite a sense of accomplishment when it was over.
I am taking Professor Hijazi for my Introductory Sociology class. The material we cover is rather interesting but there is so much reading. I realize we are at a college level but it seems excessive. Some of the articles he chooses are very intense. He is very picky about how you communicate with him and he is not good about responding to emails.
I loved this class. Tests were essay questions/multiple choice. He explains how to answer each essay question and gives you a list of them that will be on the test. You can see that he is passionate about what he is talking about. He also gives a lot of extra credit during the online quizzes (not very difficult). I totally recommend him.
Great professor, assigns a lot of reading and lots of online quizzes which are worth a good chunk of credit, but I didn't do some of them (woops), did well in other areas and passed with a high B. I missed a few class sessions and he was good about make up work as long as you communicate with him. His lectures are interesting.
He expects far to much out of a online class. I honestly believe he cares about his subject but he requires far to much time to be put into this general ed course.
i took his online class and really was not that impressed with the class format nor his knit picky responses to my work. I just did what needed to be done to earn an A. I feel he could improve his tentativeness and his reply skills. slow grader. kind of snarky to students who don't buy into everything the material asserts. i give him a 6/10
Professor Hijazi was awesome. I enjoyed his class more than my other classes. There is no textbook. He just uploads articles that we read and take quizzes on. Everything we discuss is really thought provoking. It's never boring and he is really funny. His exams are not the easiest BUT his gives us everything we need and notecards to use. Show up!
He is super clear in what he wants every week! 1 discussion bored post(due by Saturday), 1 test based on the chapter reading, and either a test or a writing assignment from the 3 articles( both due Sunday) This is every week. While it can be a lot of reading, the readings are SUPER interesting. It might make you rethink how you view things.
If you are looking for an easy class/ teacher this is not your best option, However, if you want to learn some very cool things about yourself and the people around you this is the class to take. Professor Hijal is awesome, he's not an easy grader some of the work is a bit challenging but if you make an effort you can get the grade you work for.
Online class, take that into account, you have to make up for time not spent in a classroom. Lots of reading; esp. of relevant articles. A lot of media to watch. Discussion board posts every week. I like him & you can really learn a lot from this professor. No big tests, just quizzes every week & 6 short papers. Communication is key, & be polite.
Professor Hijazi is an amazing professor hands down!! Lectures are amazingly interesting and the way he teaches will always keep you hooked during lecture. I would rate higher if possible! One of the best classes I habe ever taken, thanks to professor Hijazi!!
Their was 3 articles a week varying in length, some could be 10 pages while others could be 4, and a chapter in the textbook to read. Typically their was a quiz every week on the articles and the chapter, sometimes an article assignment with very unclear criteria. A Discussion was also due on the material from the week. It was an okay online class.
For Hijazi's hybrid class, reading the textbook is important to get all the info. Also discussions every week and homework online. The exams were in bluebooks so you had to know what you were writing about. Lectures are a bit scattered and not all the material is touched on in the class period.
Great professor. Would recommend
Just talked the whole class, no notes, no lectures, just expected us to sit and listen to him talking. Very boring and impossible to listen to. I dropped because I figured I shouldnt waste my time by not learning a single thing.
Taking this as an online course and I can say he's one of the best online professors I've ever had. He's really caring!! But, his weekly assignments consist of heavy reading from the textbook, quizzes, and heavy writing assignments. He's strict about detail, but thats only because he's passionate about the subject and wants you to actually learn.
He is really an amazing sociology teacher. He knows his stuff and is very educated. Although his quizzes may be tough he gives extra credit and if you ever need anything he really is one of those teachers who listen and will do their best to help you. Great prof
Horrible instructor , poor knowledge of the subject (sociology) itself and all other subject matters, which associate with the course . Homework is confusing and exam questions do not make any sense. In the end, best to find a more intellectual professor then this one .
Poor teacher, course content was disorganized , boring lectures, lackluster effort by the teacher who does not seem to care about students. The best advise for others is to choose another professor.
He made sociology very interesting. His teaching style worked well for the course content, making subjects relatable and retainable. I would suggest him to anyone taking sociology. He gave extra credit opportunities and as someone previously stated, if you take good notes, you should do fine in the class.
Professor Hijazi is fantastic. Very kind, funny and lectures are entertaining and educational. Three exams (gives out really helpful study guides), and weekly-biweekly quizzes on readings. Very engaging in class, enjoys participation and does a great job explaining material in depth.
Such an amazing professor. Really opened my eyes to the world of sociology. Lectures were clear and concise and the exams made you really think like a sociologist. I recommend this class and this professor to anyone who is even a little bit interested in, or is just curious about sociology.
If you want to waste your weekends doing a ridiculous amount of homework then pick this class. The professor assigns too much work for one class with poor resources to find answers. Lastly the professor makes accusations of cheating without proof. This college has many great professors that are better than this one, dont waste your time.
There's lots of pointless homework. The professor was rude to me when I asked about accessibility to the articles we have to read every week. When I suggested a better quality copied article, I was told I had a learning disability (I don't) The article was literally just hard to read on a screen. don't waste your time and take a different class
SO MUCH READING roughly 30-40 textbook pages a week and about 2 or 3 3-7 page articles every week. The class was out of 100 points and no final. Every week you have 2 multiple choice quizzes on the reading and a discussion post. Every other week you answer 6 questions in a paragraph response. Prof gives good feedback in the beginning and Extra cred
I took his online course fall semester and it was overall pretty easy but I definitely still learned a lot. We would have weekly chapter quizzes and discussion boards and either a quiz or assignment on 2-3 articles. He gave feedback on the first couple of assignments and discussion boards so you know what he expects. Extra credit on all quizzes.
Took Professor Hijazi's 300 class last semester online. Great material and was a class that changed my perspective on life. Highly recommend. Will be taking his popular culture and media class as well this semester. Check in, do your work, and it is an easy class. I had to miss a few a few quizzes due to life issues and he was understanding.
His intro class was my first class in sociology. I liked his course structure and I put in some effort and got a good grade. I learned a lot and textbook was interesting. Complete class work and you will do well. Homework was average and he gave us feedback and encouragement when we needed it especially with Covid. Gave extra credit. Good class!
Took his Soc. 350 class last semester and learned a lot. We had about two or three things due a week and gave us a whole week to turn in stuff. Clear expectations and have feedback and he graded easy but told us how to improve. Wanted us to do well and allowed us make-ups. Has a fair makeup policy. Recommended and taking his intro class next.
Im surprised that this rating is so low! I talk about professor Hijazi all the time! He is still my favorite to this day!
Attended his 300 online class and encouraged me, shared info we can apply to our lives, and not judgy. Graded on 6 short article assignments, a weekly post and weekly quiz on the text with extra credit. Helped when issues came up and I communicated with Professor H. Could have earned a A easy with less missed work. Recommend!
Attending his Soc. 300 class and Prof. Nidal's class has been interesting, info is current, and class is not difficult. Posts work at the start of the week to be completed by Sundays. Work in health care and how he structures his class helps me get my work in. I have an A in the class and have completed almost all of the assignments (drops a few).
Learned a lot in the class, super chill, and is a fair/easy grader. Didnt feel rushed on weekly quizzes. This was my second online class and I adjusted fast since weekly things due are consistent. I liked the discussions because they were connected to the class and recent events. We used the text and content was interesting.
This was my first online class and it was fun and did well. Organized and gives feedback with extra credit opportunities. Turned in weekly work and learned lots.
I really liked Professor Hijazi and his class. Weekly quizzes with extra credit on each quiz, you can raise your grade 3% at the end of the semester with extra credit papers, 2% if you take a 0.5 unit WAC or RAC class. This class is tough though because all answers to discussions and assignments require critical thinking and supporting evidence.
Didnt think I would learn so much from a class on pop culture. Would have done better if i turned in everything. Straight forward class and we actually used the textbook which is good. Didnt force us to respond to student posts every week. Yes!
Was nice to see he had updated material and was flexible. Quizzes, assignments, and discussions depending on the week. Got a lot out of the class and structured well. Best online class taken so far.
Its been about a month since I took Hijazis introductory class. I came into the class to meet a GE requirement for nursing but realize the course has changed and enhanced my perspective and relationships in life even during strange times with COVID. Made sure we benefited from the class and grading was very fair. Feeling grateful.
Completed Prof. H's Soc 300 class this summer. Organized class with interesting material, feel more aware of social life. We had four things do each week for six weeks: two textbook quizzes, one assignment on articles and expected us to connect content to your life experiences or critique ideas, and one discussion post and responses optional.
There are no chapter exams and a final for this class. Also, no Zoom meetings too! He only assigns 1 DB and an article assignment. The article takes some time to read, but it's a lot of great information you can apply in life. Just watch out for what you say in the assignments because he never skims. He reads every single word in your work.
Taking Professor N's Soc. 309 class and inspired and stoked about focusing on social psychology as a field of study. The book is interesting and brief and discussions relate to our experiences and and sociology. Encourages us to applying what we learn and not a hard grader.
I always wonder what makes people do things in life. This class is useful in real life. Professor Hijazi is very organized, caring, and detailed orientated. He grades fairly, and give ample opportunities for extra credit. If you apply yourself youll definitely pass the class. One of my all time favorite classes.
By far easiest honors class I've taken at CC, felt like an intro course. Weekly quizzes on textbook content (16 questions + 2 extra credit). Weekly discussion posts in relation to given material. 6 total assignments of 5 short answer questions each on multiple-page articles. Offers extra credit as well. Hands-off prof, seems nice and caring.
I really enjoyed this class. He didn't make it too easy but I also had his honors class. Make sure to add terms and topics in with your own words and you'll be fine. Tests were easy if you read the chapters. Chapters always had interesting information, and there were discussions every week, and assignments every few weeks.
Easy class esp. for an honors course. Read < a chapter a week (20 pages max but mostly less), a quiz (heavily based on reading + EC from videos), a discussion post (no responses required) and 1/2 of weeks a short response assignment based on 2 additional (avg 3 page) articles. No cumulative tests or any projects. Clear guidelines + easy grader :)
While initially unmotivated and was not sure what I would get from the course, I was pleasantly surprised about how much I got from the class. Like that my understanding of our society is more refined. Assignments where interesting and like how he included our experiences. Not a difficult class but felt he cared and got support when I need it.
He respects his students and their experiences. Class work was not boring and prof cares about the success of his students. Was taking a few classes and the class gave balance and was informative.
Excellent into class. Average amount of weekly tasks with a quiz (on text that was fun to read and got my ebook for less than $45, he posted the chapters free for the first few weeks) and discussion OR quiz, assignment and post. He alternated ever week, simple to follow. I feel more aware of whats going around me.
Probably the most open minded and fair instructor Ive experienced. Highly recommend and youll learn and gain a lot. Ive grown.
Good quality class and content kept me interested. Average amount of things due. Instructor was active in the class and seems to care about my success. Not hard and not too easy and I feel like I got some much from the class. Flexible and kind too and if you turn stuff in, youll get a good grade.
Not a good teacher at all , assignments atrocious, dysfunctional mannerism, avoid this individual at all costs.
Attending CSUS now in social work. His class gave me the background to do well in the social work program. I feel prepared and he was always encouraging. He uses good textbooks in his classes (took 2), has no papers or exams (has quizzes, assignments, and posts), and was kind. Made discussion fun and not required to respond to posts.
This class was ok, def very easy for an honors course. Weekly discussions and chapter quizzes. about 5 or 6 article assignments and a really easy final discussion. You should read the textbook chapters for the quiz/discussion but you can also just skim and prob still get an A. If I liked sociology more I would've def liked this class more!
Engaging material and liked that there are no set Zoom lecture meetings. He assigns material on Mondays and it's due late on Sundays.Turn in stuff and you will do great. Learning about the sociological imagination changed how I see the world.
Professor H was very caring and understanding. He has straightforward criteria for the semester, read a chapter a week, with some videos related to the week's topic, a chapter quiz (which extra credit is always available- in case you're having a rough week), and a discussion. His material is exciting and relatable.I really enjoyed his class!
In the Soc. of Pop Culture class this semester and it has been interesting and informative. The perspectives presented help me understand mass media and social media. Helps that the content is current. 14 quizzes, 14 discussion posts, and 6 assignments assigned in the semester. He drops lowest grades.
He is a great professor. I actually learned so much from his class and before his class I never liked sociology. Now I am obsessed with this subject. Lots of reading, but it is not hard and very interesting. Writing assignments each week actually make you think. Topics are very fascinating. Definitely, take him.
Professor Hijazi is a very caring professor! He never gives midterms or finals and you know exactly what to expect each week. When you reach out to him, he usually responds within 24 hours. He is quick to apply any DSPS accommodations you require and is readily available to answer any questions. He truly makes Sociology an interesting to learn:)
Professor Hijazi class was one of the best online experiences I have had so far. He is very clear of what is expected, gives great feedback and is ready to help at any time. He gives no midterms or finals, just weekly quizzes, weekly discussions and either article or video assignments that require critical thinking. It was the perfect balance.
Enrolled in his summer class and was recommended by a co-worker. Going for my nursing degree and liked class organization and useful information. Expects that you apply course material to posts and assignments while not being too picky (like connect one main idea and you are ok). For the 6 week class, we had four things due each week. No exams.
Got lot more than expected from the class and understand deviance way better. Organization of course was good and gave other optional articles and material if some wanted to explore more. Came to enjoy sociology and he was open to our ideas.
I took SOC 300 309 and 318. I was undecided about my path but these classes solidified that Sociology is for me. Except to read about 30 pages a week, a discussion post, article analysis every 2 weeks, and a quiz. No major exams or papers throughout the entirety of the course. He reads everything so just take assignments seriously. Super easy A
Not that difficult of a class, weekly quiz and discussion board, along with an assignment where you read and article and answer questions every three weeks.
an excellent teacher for asynchronous SOC309. Class structure is straightforward and predictable. Quiz & discussion post every week, and he's always available via email if you have any questions or need an extension. as long as you're making an effort, he will help you succeed. 100% would take his class again!
He's very chill, honestly didn't even talk to him for most of the semester. (1-2 emails sent total). He isn't very accessible through email, but you won't really need it. No recorded lectures. LOTS of extra credit, it would be hard not to pass (extra credit questions on each quiz).Writing assignments (discussions and mini essays are only 1pt each).
Prof H is great. His online class is extremely straightforward and he gives clear instructions. Each week you can expect a reading (1ch), watching a crash course video, a discussion assignment (no reply's but sometimes long films), a quiz (2 attempts w/ extra credit questions), and sometimes an additional assignment. Easy A if you do the work!
Professor Hijazi's online courses are easy to follow and he has clear instructions. If you put the time in, you can get an A. There are no exams in any of his classes - just quizzes. There are 2 extra credit questions on each quiz so it is easy to get an A on them. On homework assignments and posts, answer in-depth or you won't get all the points.
I'm in his introduction course on campus. He lectures, interacts with the class, and most things presented are interesting and useful. Do assigned stuff, attend, and act normally and you will do very well. Almost always get A's or B's on all work turned in. Quizzes, short papers and an exams plus extra credit.
Such a nice guy!!! Took him last fall and he was amazing!! Both in SOC300 and in SOC318, he was so wonderful and funny with his lectures. He loves learning about his students lives and sees the value in connecting sociology with personal situations. 10/10 would take him again!!
Took both of Prof. H's in person 300 and 318 classes this past semester and views broadened. They were structured the same way and had quizzes, 2-page papers, and exams which were all completed and turned in on Canvas online. Attended classes (20% of grade), participated once in a while, and completed stuff and did well.
Topics were interesting and related to whats going on with deviance and crime. Fair grading and u will do great if you turn things in. Had discussions that went with class lectures. No book was required in the class so helped save money. Everything u need is on Canvas.
He's such a good professor! His class is easy to understand with all the real-life examples he gives. He is very open to talking and asking questions. His due dates are extended for two days, the max point is 80%. Very much recommend.
I love this professor he was very caring and nice and I will get a different class with him again!
Finished his summer 6 week online class. Had quizzes, discussion posts, and questions about readings each week. Organized and readings were interesting and I liked that he wanted us to connect out life experiences. He always asked us to connect course material and cite I think to show we understand and not use online. 2.5/5 difficulty for me.
Was in Prof. Nidal's deviance class at ARC and he covered sociology but also we had discussion. Lecture and we had few short papers, quizzes on readings (can take 2 times), and 3 summary exams. Spaced dates apart and was a good class with many people and their ideas.
Didn't work with me on late assignments due to visiting my dying dad in hospital. Late work grade significantly impacted. Treated me like a problem. Accused me of plagiarism. Tough grader. Text chapters- long-winded, Exams- hard. Dropped w/one week left due to grading, snarky remarks in emails, and an overall lack of compassion. Had enough abuse.
The professor was caring and organized. His lectures are interesting, and he encourages applying course material to real life. I found the quizzes and discussions manageable, and using unstuck ai along with the textbook helped me succeed in the class.
Good class with a balance between sociology and discussion. He is empathetic and understanding and I like that because we discuss many social topics and he tries to be considerate of students. He gives chances to do well in the class and I like the topics and examples in class. Openminded and reminds us we are a classroom community.
I did not like this professor. One thing I didn't like is that he did not post the material for the next week until MONDAY. I am a planner, I need to know what to expect the next week BEFORE the week starts. All other courses allow you to see weeks ahead. Also it's hard to see assignments. He doesn't use canvas efficiently, which makes it harder.
Class was not hard and much opportunity to complete things since he allows for late work 48 hours after. Easy to navigate and knew what I had ti do each week and didn't feel rushed. Favorite online class so far and like the discussions.
This professor is amazing. He is an easy grader. 6 written assignments based off readings. Weekly quizzes and discussion boards. NO TESTS! Extra credit opportunity available. Course is super woke but he lets you say your views without repercussions. Gave me the textbook for free because I could not afford it. TAKE HIM!
He was fine. He relied only on textbook and article for learning. He does not have any lecture for his online class. There a lot of reading and writing in the class.
In person class was a great experience since I didn't know about sociology and he is passionate about the subject. We had two 2-page papers that connected our experiences to sociology, 7 reading quizzes (drops grades), and 3 exams (no final). Allowed two tries on quizzes and encouraged us to look over the material and get good grades.
Was in both his online 309 and in-class 300 classes. Online was organized, informative, and had weekly topics. 300 class was interactive, interesting, and encouraged us to conssider the experiences of others. Gave many sociology ideas so we can think individually. Helped me see things in different way and use a lot of ideas we learned in life.
easy class, only 1 discussion, and a quiz due, sometimes we had an assignment, he gives you the pdf version of the textbook, quizzes are easy, one of the chillest course i ever took, the answers for the quizzes are directly from the textbook, there's a bit of a reading tho
One of the best classes I've taken at ARC inperson. Liked balance between sociology ideas and conversations about social issues. Discussion was open and we discussed many current events with respect for each other. He takes attendance and amount of graded things was moderate. Recommend and plan on taking one of his other online classes.
First sociology class and he cares about his students. It was my first sociology class so was challenging but he gives many opportunities to do well. Turn things in and show up and you will be fine.
Was in 300 class on campus and took it after a friend who took his deviance class suggested. Was one of first GE classes and liked the content and sociology. If I remember correctly, 7 or 8 quizzes, 3 short papers, and 2 exams that we did online. Not to easy and not to hard. He had us using course material in papers and exam and clear directions.
Took this class a week later than the class started and he gave me an extension. I've known the proffesor for a long time now, as basically a second father and I have nothing bad to say as him as a Proffesor or person. His class was very manageable, straightforward, and pretty interesting. I recommend.
Exams and quizzes are very easy, match the lectures/reading, and are online. Essays are also easy. No group work/discussions.
Chose to take this class at ARC because the lecturer was a tough grader at SCC and I couldn't be happier with my choice. He is such a kind and caring professor and will accommodate you. The class was so interesting and really grew my love for the field. He can go on tangents sometimes so if you love the field of sociology this guy is for you!!
thus professor is very kind and understanding when attendance is hard. the only real thing i struggled with was that the lecture slides are incohesive, and the only content used for exams posted in canvas. most of the slides make no sense unless you can recall verbatim what's said in class. overall just okay
Good introduction to sociology class and enjoyed it although I'm a STEM major. Much more aware of society's influence and liked the concepts and theories we learned. Tips: he takes attendance, take notes, and apply lecture and text content to your classwork and you will do well. 4.5/5 overall and glad I took the class.
He's very clear about grading and expectations from the start, and his feedback is detailed. Getting a 10 is hard but 9.5 is avg. Each week = 1 discussion, quiz 16 questions + 1 extra credits and two attempts. Six total assignments which have 5 questions. There's no final exam, and allowed 3% raise at the end if you do the extra credit assignments.
Nidal was a good teacher. At first, I didn't focus on the assignments and discussions he was posting, so I got a lot of 6/7 out of ten. But after a couple weeks, if you follow the instructions he gives out, then you will do a lot better and your grades will improve. Personally, I didn't have much interest in sociology but overall the class was ok.
