Very interesting material. Best Lecturer I've ever had. Never skip, and make sure you take notes on everything he writes on the board, and memorize it for the tests, and you will do fine. He is very helpful with assignments, but they are very difficult.
I think he has to be the worst lecturer that I have seen. he does such a poor job of explaining the material. His notes as disorganized and very hard to follow. If I had it to do over I never would have never taken his class.
Avoid him, don't take his class. You can't follow what he is trying to explain as he is very disorganized and confusing. He is a bit of a jerk too.
Seemed more interested by the attractive females in the class who mysteriously all got A's despite never taking a test/doing an assignment. He has favorites...dont get on his bad side. Tests are difficult and require memorization. He gets angry if you dont provide ideas that bring in $ for UCF.
He may know what he is talking about, but he has absolutely no idea how to convey it. He is one of the worst lecturers I have had. He also has a bad attitude and is quite frankly a jerk.
He doesn't mess around. You have to work hard to get that A. If you don't understand him, go to his office hours and he'll make sure you'll understand the ideas. Don't be shy or else you fail. Memorization on tests is key to passing. If you're not good at memorizing algorithms you're already screwed.
Going to his office hours is a far worse experience than having him in class. He is rude and doesn't understand how to provide adequate instruction. I dont think he cares either.
This guy really does suck. I hope to god that nobody participates in REU with him ever again. If you do it, work with Dr. Shah, who is way smarter and more understanding! Dr. Lobo just tries to use students for publications because he is too unintelligent to do it himself.
This is not a case of a professor being "challenging" and is disliked because he makes students work. No, this guy has a really bad attitdue towards students and is an ineffective instructor. Don't take his class, avoid him.
This guy is a complete idiot. Doesn't know vision outside the undergraduate level, and is an overall rude and miserable person. He will say one thing to your face and do another. Overall, stay away from him, or see Foroosh or Shah for vision related matters.
this guy is just a bad prof. He cant teach and doesnt know the material himself......avoid this guy.
Dr Lobo expects you to know how to program before taking his classes. They are not beginners courses. He is fair and clear. You will do a lot of programming and you will learn a lot -- or else you will receive a poor grade. Most of the poor ratings are from programmer wanna-bes who do not have what it takes to get a CS degree!
Dr. Lobo is a great professor. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and the rest of the Computer Vision professors. (Especially Dr. Mubarak Shah)
Good introductory C class, very willing to stop and explain if anyone had problems. Tests and projects were fair, willing to extend deadlines if class as a whole requested it.
Awesome professor! If you work hard, and show him that you work hard, he will be very leniant with your grade! You learn a lot about programming, even if you think that you already know how.
He made the class very interesting and I learned a lot. He knows his stuff and is able to teach things on the fly. Great professor. The people that gave poor reviews must've had a rare poor experience for some odd reason.
Dr. Lobo is a really great teacher. His lectures are easy to understand and if you attend class and take the course seriously, you should definitely pass. If you're having any trouble just talk to him, he's really nice about helping his students. I don't know why he got so many negative comments before, but I had a positive experience.
Has a lack of knowledge about the subject and imparts his own personal views on the students during class. Not recommended!
this guy is very good. very interested in how well i understood the material. very helpful. very fair. most of the material was interesting. definitely take this class if you have any interest in images and games.
I disagree completely with the commenter below. I had a terrible time in this class. Tons of useless memorization, the vision techniques are all from 40 years ago, and he lacks any substantial knowledge of the field. Look at his most recent publications!
Intro to C was very good. He is firm about requirements, but tries hard to ensure that students are keeping up with him. Always available for help. Overall good fella.
I liked this class a lot. Lobo really cares for how students understand the material. He is not anal about how you turn homeworks in, as long as you show him you did the work. Pleasant personality and friendly.
No doubt he's the best teacher I have had during my many years in school. He cares about how I learned, how much I learned, gave advice on what I could do with what I learned, and generally spent quality time with students. Class exceeded 150 students, yet every one of us felt like he was talking and attending to just ourselves. A rare experience.
Great prof. overall. Very helpful, always in his office. talks to the whole class like we know how to program when there are maybe 10 kids that actually do, which can get a little frustrating at times. Tries to make sure you are keeping up with the pace. not an easy class but if you put in the time and start your assignments early you will do well.
I put many hours into studying for this class and still did horrible. Exams where pretty hard.
Fantastic professor. Very clear in his expectations, very helpful. One of the best professors in the Computer Engineering department at UCF.
Lobo wrote 90% of the positive reviews himself. Ask any student who took his class and you will hear how over the top he is. Crazy political views, horrible teaching of the material, and unclear/unrealistic expectations. AVOID!
Just do the work. It doesn't take long. He is very fair and then some. Piece out!
I expected to fail. Got a B. I guess I must have worked very hard. He was very helpful.
If you want to actually learn C, take him. You must actually trace and write programs on the exams, instead of being asked to spot arcane syntax errors. In other words, he emphasizes the fundamentals of programming rather than the language's specifics (the latter of which should be a secondary goal and come naturally with experience).
Easy class unless your a dumbass. Do some work and easy A. Lobo is pretty good teacher and funny too.
This class is really easy if you already know C, and probably very hard if you don't. But, if you know C well already, you can talk to him, he'll give you a chance to prove it, and then you can work on an interesting project instead.
Professor Lobo is one of the best professors I have ever had at UCF. I have to say he was extremely helpful, he actually cares about his students and if you show a really good work ethic he is even willing to help you further your education.
This class is a great intro class for comp sci majors. If you aren't planning on ever using C again and you want an easy A, take another teacher. Prof Lobo is difficult but you actually learn. If you put in the hours studying and practicing you can ace his exams! You don't need prior programming experience. Just a good work ethic.
Great professor!!! He stays late hour way passed what he is pay for to help students. by far one of the best professors i have ever had
Best Intro To C Programming Teacher i've taken so far. He really cares to get you the grade you deserve. He holds study sessions of his own, and you really learn if you put in the hard work. The test are hard, yet he gives you the help you need to ace his test. Prior programming isn't necessary, you must be willing to work hard
He has kind of a wacky way of explaining things but if you pay attention or have any experience with C you will be fine. His trace questions are annoying, but his coding ones tend to be a breeze if you can think like a programmer and do the HW. He's one of the only professors to exempt from the final if you score very high on the semester tests.
Awesome professor. If you aren't familiar with C or programming in general this class will be difficult if you don't put in the work, but he is definitely there to help you and wants to make sure you do your best and learn. If you're a science major, definitely take him.
He goes too fast in class lectures, but throws great review sessions and is very pleasant in person, no matter how far behind you are (don't be). Don't drop out early if you messed up on an exam. You're probably gonna need to bring a laptop every lecture.
This is an intro class, but he teaches it like it's a refresher meaning its been awhile since you have done C programming. He talks a 100 mph. Very helpful but way too fast paced. If you have never taken C then take someone else, but if you have then take him. I ended up switching to a different section.
I had never programmed before and passed with an A. It's not easy, but if you attend the classes and his tutoring sessions, you will do really well. He was the best teacher I have ever had. He really cares about his students. That being said, if your feelings get hurt easily then don't take him. You need to be mentally strong to handle his class.
Dr. Lobo was my favorite teacher at UCF. His course was challenging but it very well prepared me for the field and he grades very fairly. Work hard and you should not only get an A but actually have mastery of the subject.
Dr. Lobo is a fantastic teacher. He has group help sessions at least once a week and posts notes online. If you go to class and to his help sessions you should do well in his class. He's been my favorite professor in college, hands down.
He's an excellent teacher. The class is very difficult because of the massive amount of material covered, but Lobo gives you everything you need to pass. He has a class website with all the lecture notes, programs, homework, and anything else you need for the class. He even has a way for you to get immediate help on his class website.
Finally a professor that cares if his students understand the material. He will explain something to someone 100 different ways and if they still don't get it guess what... he will explain it for the 101th time and in a completely different way until you get it or he can direct you to someone who can "speak your language". Dedicated nuf said.
Although the class was quite challenging Professor Lobo helped us learn the material and would teach it in several different ways until we all understood. He took time out of his day (at least two to three times a week) so that he could help us master the material outside the classroom. I have never had a teacher as dedicated as he was. Great Prof!
Dr. Lobo is the best! He goes fast, but offers sessions to help you through the material in his free time. His teaching style allows you to learn from your mistakes rather than just giving you the answers. His deadlines are somewhat flexible. He truly wants to see everyone learn and succeed. He gets off on tangents sometimes to talk politics fyi.
I wish he taught more classes, because I would definitely take him again. I really haven't experienced a prof who is so invested in students like Lobo. Multiple ways to pass class and tries to make students understand material. No textbook. Ended w an A. lecture helpful if you haven't programmed before, repetitive if you have but you still learn
The class is difficult, especially for anyone who has never programmed before. You have to work hard and put in the work, but Lobo will defiantly help you out. He always has extra help sessions and will talk with you in his office. He's a great teacher teaching a difficult class. You will not need the textbook.
Professor Lobo was the best instructor I've had thus far. I entered the class with no knowledge of programming and left with a great understanding of C++, an A, and friends. I highly recommend going to Lobo's additional study sessions, which he calls Phoenix Rising sessions. I'm a chick that learned to program on a mac and it's all thanks to lobo!
This class was not easy but he is there to make sure that you pass. He gives a lot of extra help so it is extremely hard to fail. I failed every single test but still passed the class. Even if you think you won't make it stay in the class and you will at least pass with a C.
The hardest professor at UCF for Intro to C. That being said this is one of best classes you will ever take a UCF, the exams are difficult. He takes lectures very serious and tries to maximize the time spent. Occasionally he will come out with a few puns every now and then to get the class lighten up a bit. There is no textbook.
He doesn't know how to teach. He thinks he's one of the best teachers at UCF, which I think is not true. He spent more time in intimidating students from tests than to actually teach in class. However, if you study from the first day and do the daily homework, A is not difficult to earn.
He is definitely a tough professor, but if you put in the work you'll succeed. He takes a great deal of time out of class for help sessions and will answer any questions you have.
The class itself will be difficult if it's your first time coding. However, if you work really hard and invest the time you can get out of the class early. He holds Phoenix rising sessions (help by Lobo) where he reviews stuff and students review the material. Go to as many as you can, and study up and you will get good grades on the tests.
Lobo is a good teacher. He teaches the class well and gives you everything you need to do well on his test. It's kind of annoying that he teaches you how to do things instead of teaching you how the language works, but the "nasty trace" on the final forces you to learn how it works. He goes out of his way to make himself aproachable.
Learning C is hard, ESPECIALLY FOR FIRST TIMERS. I cannot stress that enough. Go to his Phoenix rising seshs, every moment you can. I was always afraid cause I dont like to admit when I'm wrong. And make friends in the class, because for a class very driven on individual thinking just having support from people in the same situation goes a long way
Great professor, makes you work hard and expects a lot of work from you to earn an A or any decent grade. Class consists of homework assignments in edge detection, facial recognition and one long research paper at the end of class along with a presentation on the phone. Time consuming, but interesting, would recommend.
Im sure if you have programming experience this class must be so much fun. But if you have no experience, you will get totally left behind. He is probably average at teaching at best, BUT MOVES WAY TOO FAST. He himself has confirmed that he moves much faster than other professors. If you have no experience you better get some before this course.
He gets all his assignments from arup guha. He moves too fast. he makes the people with no experience feel like there is no hope. Plus he thinks its funny that we will all fail his tests. Its unfair to have people who finish all the assignments for the course in one week in the same class who struggle with the first assignment.
Extraordinarily disrespectful and chauvinistic.
1st time programming and I was able to get 100 on every test. Lobo tells us almost word for word what will be on each test and even gives us downloadable files to the questions which pretty much ARE the test Qs, but with a few things changed. Overall, he's a pretty funny guy, and you can easily pass if you take the time to understand the logic.
He his by far the best I have had so far because not only does he really takes an interest in the material, but also because he genuinely wants the students to succeed. he goes out of his way to give students every single opportunity to succeed and if you don't, that is without a doubt your own fault. Not to hard, and he is funny as hell.
Lobo is a wonderful Professor who helps you a lot. He helps prepare you for the tests in many ways by giving questions that are very similar to the test questions. While you have to write out code or trace code on the tests, if you study you will easily get an A in the class.
He is tough. He teaches as if assuming everyone is moving on to CS1(not the case). Anyone with no prior or very little programming experience WILL struggle to pass, due to how quick pace he expects you to pickup the language. He knows his class is hard, so he does offer quite a bit of out of class time to help students, although not very helpful.
One of the best CS professors at UCF, can't go wrong with him.
He was a great professor. Many ways to get an A in his class but he does go through material quickly. My first time ever programming and I got out of the class a month early bc I aced my tests. The grade you get depends on how much time and effort you put in. If you don't want to put a lot a time into the class then computer science isn't for you
Dr. Lobo was a great professor, but the course itself relied on 4 tests and 5 assignments. If you have previous programming knowledge, the class should be a breeze. If not, get ready to study a lot. He runs all of the labs personally, and they were the most helpful part of the class. Tests are always returned quickly.
Really great professor. He moves through the material really fast, but if you keep up you will pass. I've never taken a actual programming class before, but I was able to understand it all. Labs help a lot but are optional, I stopped going to them later in the semester because I understood it. He holds study sessions that help with tests too.
If you are new to programming, you will not find a better instructor! By far the most caring individual on campus. The class is a foundation for programming and Prof. Lobo will give you the best foundation possible. He devotes 200% to his students. You have to work hard in his class but you will get the most out of it.
One of the best professors I had in my undergrad years, had him for Intro to C and Robo Vision. He is not PC about much aka hes blunt, if you can handle that he is funny and a great teacher, very flexible on grading.
Honestly just an awesome guy, really puts time in for his students
This guy cares so much for his students. He's available so many hours throughout the week and will guide (not give it to you) you to your answer. This was my first programming class and I got hooked, his tests can be hard but if you put the time in you will pass and learn so much.
Dr. Lobo only teaches one class at a time so he can fully devote himself to those students. Picking up programming is hard, and he knows this so he explains exactly what you're going to need to do to get an "A". He actually teaches you how the language works and his assignments really make you think. I would take him again for any topic.
i took him for intro to C programming and i've never programmed before this class, but he really makes you learn the material. practice practice practice!!!! tests are difficult but manageable
Professor Lobo is simply the most exceptional professor I have had at UCF. He shows a clear care for students and is well knowledged in the field. I have never felt more satisfied about a course yet, he takes the time to individually reach out to all of his students. I would HIGHLY reccomend taking this guy whenever you can.
Overall great professor. His tests are usually very straight forward because he gives practice tests that are identical to the actual tests. If you get an A+ on all the tests, you don't have to take the final, and you get an A in the class.
He is genius but makes the class too hard. He wants everybody to be like him. The hw and exams are really tough with a horrible wording that only he understands. if you ask him a question, he won't help you because he wants you that you deduce the question by yourself for your own good. I found myself alone in this class. really stressful class.
Lobo is awesome. He is very knowledgeable and as for the class it is NOT hard to pass. Homework is easy and straightforward with the option for corrections. 1 test that is entirely based on the study guide + a bit more. Get an A on that and you're guaranteed a B in the class. Otherwise you can forget about the class after the exam if you do well.
This guy writes the question like Yoda. You will have to read the questions like 10 times to figure out what he's trying to say. Really confusing wordings and without the right to ask in the exams.
As someone that had never done programming in my life, this class was extremely easy to pass. Lobo is a really great professor and explains material really well. He's also really caring and always willing to help students outside of class. I would definitely recommend taking this class with him!
I had Lobo for intro to prog. Tough material for someone w/ little background in compsci to grasp at first, but Lobo is the most reasonable professor I've had in terms of getting you the grade you desire, provided you have proven your worth. Lobo has a passion for C and teaching. The single best piece of advice is to RECORD EVERY SINGLE LECTURE
His class was hard, but fair. I took him for Intro to C for context. During the lectures, he goes over something an emphasizes practice. His tests are essential, as they're most of the grade. He's accomodating w/ his online resources and there is a lab to practice a bit and ask questions. He provides multiple avenues of success w/ the final grade
Lobo is very accessible and is good at lecturing. This class is just 1 test, 1 research paper presentation, and some easy hw. You basically follow a guide for the hw. My issue with this class is the test, which is worth 41%. He gives a practice test, but I made a few arithmetic errors, and the harsh grading made it impossible for me to get an A.
Dr. Lobo's lectures are clear and easy to understand. I felt like I learned a lot in this class. The class has one exam and one project, each worth 41%. The practice exam is nearly the same as the actual exam, so make sure to study it well. The project was to present a research paper. He asks deep questions in the presentation; study accordingly.
Lobo is a pretty fun professor. He likes what he teaches and he delivers the material pretty well. He cares and genuinely wants everyone to pass. only one test and its worth half your grade. DON'T MISS THE TEST REVIEWS. The test comes directly from them. aside from the test, there are 4 assignments (lots of set up but easy to do) and a presentation
Professor Lobo has an obvious passion for teaching that is reflected by his work. He breaks down intricate algorithms into simple, bite sized pieces and walks you through them. If you have questions, he will answer them. The course can be demanding at times, but if you pace yourself you'll be fine. He structures the class towards your success.
Genuinely one of the most considerate professors in the department. Kind of eccentric, but gives you a lot of chances to do well in his class and his lectures are pretty entertaining.
This is an introductory class and he does not treat it as such. He goes into lectures expecting you to already know how to code in C, which is unreasonable. He does not care about your progress, only about those who already know code. Basically, if you don't have previous knowledge of C programming, then good luck.
He was an extremely hard professor, in my class he would say that asking questions was complaining. Moved extremely fast, did not make the class approachable and moved extremely fast. If you have a macbook stay away from this class because he will pick on you for not being able to keep up with him due to a different system. Extremely hard class.
Dr. Lobo was always attentive to student's concerns, even outside of lecture/office hours. But his explanations were unintuitive to me sometimes. His class materials and assignments were disorganized, but he often gave deadline extensions. His tests were pen and paper coding, very challenging for many. Yes he speaks boldly, just assume he is joking
Very straightforward guy who always lets you contact him whenever you want. He makes sure that you learn and gives good advice for the program in general.
Although the class itself is hard, Professor Lobo is one of the best, if not the best, teachers I've had in my life. He really cares about his students and he wants you to pass. He is available any day at any time to help his students. If you are actively trying and he sees that, then he'll do what it takes to help you. 11/10 I highly recommend!
Obviously knows what he's talking about, but cannot convey it. His tests are on paper for programming, which doesn't make sense. I have never seen him write a code or show an output.
I feel like I learned a lot about computer vision. He is also very caring towards his students and wants all of them to succeed. Be sure to study for the tests and do well on the final, as they determine your grade.
The class was fully online and it was kind of disorganized. He would disappear for days and randomly announce of a test or a homework. If you email him about a question he will call you immediately, however, for the final presentation he never confirms when he will call so expect to be available for an entire day waiting on a call. Don't recommend
One of the best teachers I have ever had. I had a very rough semester but he allows you to submit homework as late as you want and will let you retake tests without even asking for a reason. Amazing person all around I would trust him with my first born child.
Really good professor. Engaging, funny, and teaches very well. All exams are just like the practice tests and the same type of midterm questions are used on the final. There is no attendance grade, a couple homework assignments.
Never in my life have I had a professor call me to give me a 10min summary of a lecture that I could not attend just so I didn't miss anything. This man goes above and beyond for his students and is a genuinely caring human. Teaching is clearly his passion as he designs the course in such a way as to reward the students that REALLY deserve the A.
Genuinely one of the worst prof I've ever had. My assignments from 4 weeks ago still aren't graded yet. He doesn't follow his own syllabus. Gives out vague grading criteria for homework assignments, but will give you a zero for the assignment if you get any part of any question wrong. Don't take this class if you can help it. Just don't
Your tests are 1-to-1 to the practice tests he hands out. However he insists that you completely memorize long arbitrary calculations used in Computer Vision / Machine Learning. These calculations are long equations and the class is more of one long and dreary memorization challenge than an actual college class which you learn from.
Good professor. Can tell he cares about his students. Class grading structure took some getting used to, but his class is great otherwise
Dr. Lobo class was interesting and very easy to follow along. The class is held online so make sure not to fall behind on the work. He is a very caring person and is often in touch with you to ensure you're doing well and understanding material.
If you work full time and are taking the class online, avoid him. He will shame you for working and will make you go out of your way to take an exam in person when literally the rest of the assignments and projects are online. He also will just call you randomly multiple times without leaving a voicemail. Overall not a very accommodating professor.
If you are a Computer Science major, definitely take him for COP3223. The next programming class you take after this one will be tough, and so this class, although it is tough, will prepare you for the difficulty of CS1. Has the opportunity to skip the final exams (there are 4) if you get a 98% or higher on all preceding tests. It's hard, but fair.
Really good professor, you can tell that he cares about all of the students and their performance in the class. Sometimes it can get difficult, but as long as you continue studying, you will succeed. Notes, assignments, practice tests, and other materials are organized. Your grade will be based on exams and a few big assignments.
Niels was a nightmare of a professor who basically only graded on tests. He constantly bragged about how everyone fails his second and fourth tests and would ridicule and belittle people for being "too dumb" in this class. Its an intro to C class not a computer science 2 class... Save your sanity and do not take this narcissistic Professor.
Lobo made his class very easy to anyone, even new coders like me. The course is graded mainly on exams, and if you do really good on them, you get to leave with an A+, no finals required. His four tests looked a lot like the practice exams he gives, almost no difference. Also held Zoom reviews at 10 pm because he really does care about students.
Genuinely a rude professor who shows little to no care for his students. Would consistently make rude remarks to other classmates and genuinely made many people's lives horrible these past four months. There are much better professors for C, please don't take him.
Get ready to be ridiculed for not knowing basic programming in an intro programming course.
Professor is an amazing professor, he is funny and caring for his students. One time I emailed him at midnight, he called me at 1am to help me with my issue. His class is definitely test heavy, but his practice exams are basically his tests. As long as you pay attention in class and do what he says, you're guaranteed a passing grade.
Amazing professor. He tells you exactly what to study for the exams/final, and gives you MULTIPLE CHANCES to improve your grade significantly. Remember that you will have to study for this class; it is not easy. This professor is great, but there is only so much he can do to help you if you decide to be lazy. If you put in work, you will do well.
4 exams heavily impact grades, must aim for 98% on each to skip final.Despite expectations, he provides practice tests resembling exams, labs that cover test material, and extra credit test points. Responsive and offers comprehensive online notes. Aim for high scores, negotiate if needed. Study with peers to be successful. Worthwhile experience!
Amazing professor. Test heavy, but everything is just like the practice tests. Very little homework and loose deadline with it( you may not even have to do it if you do well on tests). Take him if you are a CS major. He cares a lot and gives you many chances to improve your grade, so it's difficult to end w less than a C.
For Intro to C you can have your final grade be: 1. The four day final that covers everything. 2. Your grade in the class from the four normal tests but going down a grade(Ex: leaving with a B- instead of an A). This means you leave early. If you have a 98% on each of the four tests you can leave early with an A. 3. Everything, 95% = A
He will interrupt you will you ask questions and berate you for not knowing code in an intro to coding class. He also skipped over the first lessons and what would be on the first test going to what's on future tests. He also will talk about how everyone fails his 2nd and 4th tests. Avoid this teacher.
Don't. One of the worst ways to learn from this professor is to take his online courses. He is unclear in his lecture and expects way to much of you.
Professor Lobo is a good teacher if you have an A in the class. If you don't, then good luck. Only focuses on the people who have an A. Very few homework, will not get around to grading it till the second to last week of school. 3 final exams, 2 before final exam week even starts. Expects you to put everything aside and only focus on his class.
At first, his class seems overwhelming, but it becomes doable once you adjust. His tests are straightforward and are derived from his practice tests which makes it better. He kind of overexaggerates the time you have to dedicate to this class and he lectures on material that shows up on tests a month later.
Dr. Lobo truly cares about his students. Though I hate that all of his tests are on paper. He also doesn't use Canvas for coursework, it's all on his website. Canvas is used only for grades, but he calculates it differently, so your Canvas grade isn't your actual grade. If it's not a test, don't expect it to get graded. He only cares about tests.
Professor Lobo was an amazing professor! I will say, I was very overwhelmed by his class and its expectations at the beginning of the semester, but you just have to be willing to put in the work and you will do great. I would definitely recommend taking his class for Intro to C!
Professor Lobo is intense in the first few classes. He ended up being the most caring professor I have ever taken and takes his time with you if you make an effort. This is the first course where I remember what I learned. This is the best professor I will ever have and have a high amount of respect for him. Show you care. You will study a lot.
Prof. Lobo was an overall good teacher. The material was taught at a comfortable pace. The lectures were okay but practicing code is where you actually learn & understand the content. The grading was confusing as homework barely mattered and tests are basically your whole grade, but his online practice tests give exactly what you need so use them!
The only thing that really determines how well you do with this class and professor is memorization for the tests. The professor assignments are not very interesting and you don't really learn much in this class. Youtube teaches the topics infinitely better.
I personally I have never met a professor more arrogant and disrespectful as this professor. Berates and belittles students if they get questions wrong on test. Lobo stated how he is making a ton of money. Also told students that were in mechanical and aerospace engineering that they would "go broke by the age of 30."
You get what you put in and have to get used to asking for the help you need. He gives you every opportunity to do good, it's up to you whether you take it or not. Very funny and caring professor. If you don't like coding, you probably won't like the class but that's not his fault which a lot of people seem to forget.
do the practice tests and just start your presentation early. He does a great job of letting you know how you're doing and setting you up for the grade you want in the class based on how you do on the tests. Final project is presentation of recent computer vision research from a paper, its not bad at all. The later emphasis on transformers is great
Please make homework grades worth more. Basing 85% of the grade off of difficult exams is a bad way to structure the class
Professor Lobo has personally called me several times to help me with problems or understanding my grade. His lectures and recordings are always very helpful when preparing for the exams and reviewing material. His instructions for the exams are very clear and the material on the exams are all very useful in C.
I'd recommend Lobo if you are passionate about coding otherwise avoid. Grades are based off mostly the 4 midterm exams and the final exam. The final exam is 3 parts that are made up of all the other exams previously given but with a different twist on each. Offers students to opt out of the final, but they must sacrifice almost a full letter grade
Grade is mostly the 4 tests and final so don't even bother doing the homework. Funny guy but his lectures were practically useless. If you actually want to learn take another prof but if you just want to get the class over with he's g.
Terrible person
Extremely rude and belittling. Wouldn't recommend this class to my worst enemy. Huge waste of money and time.
The worst experience I've had. Almost made me reconsider a career in computer science.
The professor is fair but challenging. Exams are 75% similar to the given practice exam, with 25% testing deeper understanding. They're extremely caring and flexible, offering support and adjusting exam schedules for personal circumstances, like when during Hurricane Milton hit this semester. overall goat professor
Good professor
It can definitely be a challenging class (honors version) and exams were heavily weighted, but you are well prepared for exams. The final is long but is a saving grace to your grade. Tough grader but very caring and supportive of his students if they need help.
The honors class is not that challenging, but the grading scheme will be your downfall. Homework is worth so little that you shouldn't bother. Your grade is based on 4 midterms and a multi-part final. The only upside is that exams are the same as the practice exams, just with twists. I don't recommend him unless you're confident in your skills.
Great professor!
Truly the GOAT. Gave us his personal phone number, told us to call him if we needed anything 24/7, and absolutely meant it. Beyond that, the course heavily incentivizes conceptual understanding of all concepts taught. The recorded lectures are pretty good, though I would definitely recommend supplementing with 3Blue1Brown. Hard but very rewarding.
