if you can't spell, dont;t take his class- you will go from an A to a C
Funny and a good teacher.
Funny teacher! VERY smart. Enthusiastic about what he's teaching!

changes assignments several times, your grade is dependent on his mood
great english teacher, enthusiastic and funny. He makes it interesting!
I hate english, but I enjoyed his class. Leniant marker, good sense of humor. Very British!

changes his mind alot on assignments. hard marker but not too heavy of a work load on homework.
Yea baby yea- best English Prof at Camosun!!
hmmmmm.... maybe he changed after me. was very hard back in 99
Funny Guy. Easy marker and very straight forward. not to many assignment. I really enjoyed him !!
very easy marker. do everything he says and you'll get an A. If you dont like English you will enjoy how funny he is.

He was a better Eng 150 teacher. Really smart, has a good sense of humour, but I expected more for a Lit class. It was centralized completely around the romantic characteristics, the beat period, vices and virtues and the characteristics of short stories.
very funny, intelligent and fair man. Knowledgable about eng lit, made the course fun. Sexy guy, in his own British way...
Ok, but I think Lit can be better. Funny guy, very little homework. Pretty easy.
Very funny but I found his marking to be pretty harsh sometimes.... I wouldn't take a class from him again!

He is cold teacher.
Kinda cold when you talk to him; entertains but jokes are kinda offensive. You'll do fine if laugh along...
Pretty easy class. All essays were done in 1st person. Assigned reading is easy and comprehension tests were multiple choice. Just do assignments as he specifies and you'll do fine. He's pretty entertaining and does most of the talking in class.
One of the cold teacher at Camsoun college. Hope he will check with evalution.Rude, Cold, bloodless and unhelpful. Who the hell will like him.
He's more a 150 professor. Brooks never answers emails which is bothersome. Would not recommend for 160, even if there is very little homework and quizzes are short.
Not sure why everyone is referring to him as "cold". He's hilarious, he's cracking jokes and doing imitations the whole class. Class goes by fast, and he has a great understanding of the material covered. Quizzes and assignments are easy, and he does most of the talking during your prsentations.
Nigel's class, although often entertaining, doesn't really teach you anything. Easy marker for essays, and quizzes are SO simple, but haven't really learned anything new. Wouldn't recommend if you want to improve your writing. Would recommend if you like Ozzy Osbourne. They are suprisingly similar.
Nigel may know something about english and writing, but you'll never find out, because he doesn't teach you anything. Tests are stupid. All essays are in class. Sounds confused a lot of the time. Don't take his class if you expect to learn anything, or improve your writing.

nigel's hilarious very easy quizzes and class is entertaining, but like most of these ratings say, you're not going to learn anything new, whatever your last english mark was, that's what it'll be in this class
I enjoyed his class. It's mainly about inclass participation and that's pretty good. His tests are kind of hard but most are open book.
Nigel rocks, very fair. Very smart, very funny.
I thought Nigel class was pretty easy overall. Almost all of the assignments are in class and he is a fair marker.
Nigel doesn't do anything, he has the students do the lectures for him in the form of "presentations". If that doesn't eat up enough class time, he'll show you a movie that in no way relates to the material, like 'So I Married an Axe Murderer', seriously! Don't take his class if you want to learn anything.
Nigel is incredibly funny for one thing, but to some people he seems incredibly boring. I personally thought he was a great teacher who marked fairly easily and presented the course in an interesting way. I loved taking this class.
Nigel had a good sense of humor ( in a dry format) and the class / material was fairly boring, but overall, im sure there are worse teachers

All essays are in-class. Hard to get an A/B in these essays unless you're a superb writer. Easy marks usually come from the debate/oral presentation and research essay + outline. Still, you gotta be a good inclass essay writer to manage an A or high B.
all essays are inclass. wtf!
one of the best
Nigel is a pretty funny guy. The class felt a bit scattered throughout the semester. He is a pretty easy marker but doesn't offer much guidance for where to improve. I enjoyed the class but didn't get that much out of it.
Down to earth and has a dorky sense of humour that I found nice. Lacked in instruction, usually threw instruction for assignments in at the last 10 minutes of class. 1-2 lectures the whole semester. Most assignments in class.Great with time management.I do not consider his class to be an experience to remember.I did not gain anything from it overall
Nice guy. Some people in my class said they didn't like him I think they were just not good at English and were frustrated.
Nigel is very funny, and oh so British. If you have any difficulty with in-class essays then you're screwed, but other wise, I've really enjoyed this class.
bad prof, lazy, he used exactly same materials for his 092 and 150 classes. Hard marker, can't find a nice word to descirbe him.
a lazy and irresposible prof. cheap class!
if you are looking for a slack easy credit don't take this class.brooks is very smart and can teach you how to write if you do the work
Did not learn anything! All essays are in class, very little homework. He has a good sense of humor but I don't think I would take another one of his classes.
very funny and a nice guy, but it seems like he has been doing this for a long time, maybe a little tired of it
Great way of making the curriculum interesting and fun
Waste of time. He spends more time talking to himself than teaching. His british accent didn't even help make the class go by better. Do not take him as a teacher. WASTE OF TIME
Good class...assignments were simple and straight to the point. Felt my writing improve throughout the course. Easy marker if you give him what he wants. Great sense of humour and you gotta love the accent!!
Not sure what to say... Easy class, low workload; HOWEVER... I found Nigel very unprofessional - didn't turn up when he said he would to meet me, vague on assignments and marking is a little questionable. I got an A on an essay, but he hadn't written anything on it - no idea what to do for an A+...
not a lot of homework and most assignments are simple. BUT beware every assignment is written in class no computers allowed, if you suck at spelling and grammar you will not do well. I seemed to get the same mark on all my assignments whether I put effort in or not. I think he marks the writer not the paper.
The class was easy and Dr. Brooks is a lot of fun, sometimes rambles a bit but is still always interesting. Marks easy, and the oral presentation and the debate were easier then I expected. Overall it was a good class.
Easy class with very little in the way of time consuming homework. Hard marker if you don't give him what he wants. Seems to mark based on how well you can through in metaphors, simile etc into your essays and not so much on the content. If he doesn't like your writing style or topic it tends to come through in your marks.
He is a nice teacher but does not teach anything and isn`t clear about homework he just gives you a text book and you are required to read what is on the outline for homework. I did not receive a good grade probably because I did not learn to write a proper essay. Waste of time and money! Have to repeat to get a better grade.
Unclear about homework and assignments, and does not help you out at all if you miss a class. He is passionate about literature, and pop culture, but he is vague.
Not clear with what he wants. Doesn't teach much & haven't learned anything taking his class. Everything I have learned is from the text book which I could have taken this course online instead.
A lazy teacher. Unclear about what he requires. He often murmurs to himself in class. Marks the person but not the essay.
Cold and rude professor. Didn't teach anything in class. Other English teachers have their own couse package but he doesn't. I think he does not like his teaching job and does not like students. If you choose his class, you will get regretful and waste your money as well as precious time.
He didn't teach anything in class beacuse he is not knowledgeable enough. And he likes to say,"Second language speakers go to help center." But Mr Brooks, if help centre can do everything for second language speakers, why do we go to your ENG150 class? What did you do for students?
Take his class if you can... He's a bit tough on essay marking, but makes up for it in the tests. Loved the class, loved the teacher.
Entertaining in that he has a weird sense of humor. Easy quizzes, but vague instructions (and grading for that matter) for pretty much everything else. Not recommended for anybody who is interested in English or wants to improve their writing. Downside: snooze-fest. Upside(?): class requires little to no commitment.
oxford educated, knowlegable, intelligent and sometimes very humourous (in a monty python sort of style). i enjoyed his class.
With 3 different English teachers in my last 3 classes my grade average was 90%. With Nigel Brooks it's 60%. There is nothing wrong with a hard marker; he is incomprehensible and cold/ruthless when talking with him. If you can avoid this class DO IT! All essay's in class doesn't help you get better, just gives you a bad grade and that's it.
I thought he was a great teacher. He is easy to approach, and he is an average marker I thought. I thought he was hilarious! He has a very dry British sense of humor. He had our class in fits quite a few times. He is super laid back. If you read the readings, and attend class, you will do fine!
Laziest, toughest professor I've had to date. He doesn't give percentages either but rather ranks on a 9-1 scale; making it impossible to get above 90% in the course. He's tough, picky, and I learned nothing from this course. Please don't take him!
He is an okay teacher. His marking isn't too hard but isn't too easy. I don't think I would recommend him because his assignments are difficult to do well. We had to do a research essay on an issue that is local to Victoria, and it is very hard to find information on something like that. He is a hilarious guy, but I was somewhat frustrated.
I think that he was a decent teacher, and a fair marker. Quite funny. He expects you to display understanding of the material to get good grades, so you definitely have to attend class and do the readings in order to do well. He is approachable if you have a question, but sometimes jumbled in description of what he wants you to do.
He's got this beautiful dry English humour, and he's pretty hilarious, but that's about as far as it goes. It was ENG 151 so it was kind of a joke anyway and not that difficult, but some of his assignments were kind of stupid. A pretty average prof.
Nigel was SUCH a great prof. He was totally into the class, made lectures super interesting, and I really enjoyed attending. You should definitely show up to his lectures, but they're awesome. Everyone says he's a tough marker but I got an A+ in the class so he can't be that bad. Would definitely take another class with him!
I took English 151 with Dr. Brooks. Funny guy with interesting lectures, but didn't teach me anything new. Just refers to the textbook, doesn't explain anything. You have to do the work on your own because he won't teach it to you. I would avoid this class if you want to know how to write (wasn't that supposed to be the point of this class?)
He is a funny guy, I thought he was a pretty easy marker. He doesn't seem to really teach anything, just marks what you hand in.
Nigel is a very easy marker, but his lectures are long and he usually goes off topic a bit. His notes on the board are every (not very organized). If you show up, you'll pass.
Dr. Brooks was a very concise and straightforward teacher. He is a fairly easy marker and does not really teach anything new. He is there to grade essays and answer any questions on assignments. He also has a tremendous British humour.
Mostly just a class for essay practice but it was very fun and he's a hilarious teacher! I would take it again.
Overall he is a good prof. Not hard and not too easy. I don't really understand how he marks sometimes... and he doesn't give any feedback when he marks your essays which sucks... But he marks modestly and fairly for the most part. One of the better English profs I've had. Although, I would choose Niwa over Nigel because Niwa marks easier.
Do your homework and readings, and you will do fine. He is open to discussion after class, and with every assignment. He is passionate about reading, which makes it pleasurable to attend. As long as you can be independent& back yourself up, easy A!
Take his 'After Armageddon" course! He chose great novels to study and had colourful insight on the topics. Great for a summer class if you need to pick up a credit: you get to talk and read about zombies and the end of days!
Once upon a time I'm sure Nigel was an okay prof but honestly I think he's gotten too old and set in his ways. He just graded a 1500 word research essay that I wrote and gave me a C+ but his only critics were my grammar and my works cited list. He doesn't give any feedback on essays and I don't think I learned anything in his class this semester.
The lectures aren't that bad, but once you have a paper due you should at least start it when you get it. Essays are usually done in MLA form. Got to start thinking of really good research topics if taking the course
Favorite prof. Really enjoyed his class and he's always willing to help. Fair grader but makes you work for it. He's hilarious and so much fun in class. Taking another English with him just because he's awesome!
Nigel is a great teacher, he marks fair. The class was great to take in summer. You learn things like the End of the Days, vampires, zombies etc. A lot of reading but this made me go back to the reading lifestyle I had before. The books he chose were great and very interesting. If you need to take an english class, I recommend this one.
If you're going to take Eng 151 with Nigel I recommend taking it in the spring/summer, otherwise its a waste of space to try and balance in such an easy course during the fall/winter semesters. Also barely do any work in the 7 week condensed class, the textbook was only helpful for learning how to cite, I kept mine & still use it to this day
Dr. Brooks is a good teacher, and makes going to class a lot easier, hes a fair marker. I had taken this class before and previously failed. This him i finished with an A- which is a lot better than an F, lol. I would take a class with him again
