cool guy
Most interesting course ever. Easy to learn.
Nice guy, very helpful, can miss class and still do well, great notes on net.
He's a good guy, but kind of a pushover. Doesnt even seem like a prof, good guy!

Great guy and great prof.
good guy and a decent teacher. He's very helpful and clear, but unfortunately there's no rating here for how interesting he is. He's not very interesting. A good class nonetheless.
Fun class, learned a lot, Nig was great!
Exams are hard, and VERY specific... but a good intersting lecture.
Nig's a great guy, he touched on all the major topics in international politics and took on different perspectives. Look out for his essay format sheets... you'll lose major marks if you dont follow them word for word. Otherwise, a great prof!
An awesome guy. He will go out of his way to be a good teacher. Organized and clear.
Awesome teacher, clear, helpful, and goes out of his way for students, great guy.
I love the course and the prof. Nig is one of the few who makes learning fun & enjoyable for all. Also very helpful ! Just be careful if you like to skip class cause Nig takes attendance...=)
Not the easiest marker, but if you follow instructions then you will be fine. Will go out of his way to help.He has a diverse knowledge base which makes for interesting lectures.Brings Timbits to class and takes field trips to the movies (after class...but still). One of the best profs I had at western
Very interesting and fun. Knows what he's talking about and definitely enjoys doing his job. Will go out of his way to help you get a higher mark.
Nig is awesome!! He makes his clase extremely interesting. He is absolutely hilarious. He is very down to earth, and very approachable. Not many profs come along like him, he is incrediable
NIG ROCKS!!!
Veyr very helpful prof, and very nice. He can mark hard, but if you do everything he asks for, its fine. All in all great person
Amazing teacher. High level of care towards his students and their education. Easily the best teacher i've had thus far at Western (in 3rd year).
Very well organized, conducts class in an efficient and informative manner, Lots of activities for participation and to keep your interest.
Nig is the best! Take 231 in intersession! Time flies by.
Pol 231 Intersession with Nig was great. He was passionate and made sure to engage the class in all his lectures. Not only was Nig a great prof but I recently celebrated a birthday, (after having graduated a year ago!), and received an email from him wishing me a happy birthday. Kind-hearted and genuine, I recommend any courses with Nig!
Had Nig in 2000/01. Exactly what you should get for $5k tuition. Hit all the foundations of each topic in lecuture. Provided readings in a way you could cover the basics if pressed for time. The more you read the better you could do, fair to me. One of the few night classes that regularly kept me beyond break. Very helpful is asked for it.
Amazing Professor. Challenges students to think critically and debate issues of the day. Provides an environment that makes learning fun and conveys difficult concepts via fun activities. Is there to help the student and cares about the students success. Goes above and beyond his duties to make sure that the student excels. HIGHLY RECOMMENED!
Prof. Narain is widely known to be caring and deeply concerned about the progress of his students, but his personality masks some serious problems in his teaching. His grading is arbitrary and always late. He has trouble defining the basic elements of his courses, like 'gender analysis.' And he's very poor at keeping track of class participation.
Teaches by having you print off partial notes and your supposed to add to them, the problem is the notes you print off are hard to understand. Overall though, a good prof, loved the cl****. Mid term was horrible but final was pretty easy.
Nig put in a lot of effort to ensure that the Poli Sci department ran well. Unfortunately, this sometimes affected his preparation of the 231E class of 02-03. However, you can not question his passion for teaching or his understanding of the satirical and pop cultural meaning of The Simpsons, Seinfeld and Arrested Development.
Professor Nig is so compelling to listen to and I am so happy and inspired by his teachings I look forward to being in more of his classes I feel his compassion to bring social issues to peoples attention and his dedication to teach any indivivual at any skill level is outstanding he is very approachable and explains things very clearly
Awesome Prof. Gives a lot of examples (so many in fact it is often hard to follow what he is talking about in class. He gives good notes, and is pretty clear about what is expected for the Essay and what will be on the Exam. Exam was 145 questions but he only marked it out of 125 (ie. 20 bonus questions). Cares a lot about his students.
Nig is so involved with so many things that he usually handed things back VERY late. Also, he always seems to get behind in lectures because his lectures are so jam packed with info and examples and slides. However he is extremely helpful and always available to students. Getting a good mark is very easy, esp with participation cards!
I had him over at King's college and he was a great prof! Very helpful when you needed help and always trying to help boost your mark up with participation cards and such. I wasn't really into political science but if you are, you'll like him for sure. One of best prof to take for Poli sci at kings
Was a good prof helped when it was needed by he needs to differenciate between first year poli sci and international relations...he gives too much information that his lectures become skewed and uncomprehensible.
Hes amazing!!!it was my favourite class
Great Prof. but a tough class to do very well in.
Take this class! Even though the lectures can get kind of boring, nig really wants you to do well in this class, and if you work you will. Also, he is really funny.
goes into too much detail that you're not sure what you need to know, and what you don't need to know.
He underlines and colours his slides randomly with the false belief that he is highlighting important information. His assignments' rubrics are not logical and his lecture style is horrendously boring. In general, he is one of the least interesting professors most eligible to be fired for bringing shame to UWO.
He is never clear on anything he says. His powerpoints are always confusing and disjointed. His emails are frequent, unnecessary, and not helpful. He is very long-winded in his descriptions and rules and yet, he does not cover everything. Therefore, he is ineffective and does not succeed in his intentions. Overall, an awful teacher.
first off, nig is a really nice guy. but he totally babies his students. his jokes are...not funny. he tries to be with it with the kids, but its just lame. course is alright. but TA's do alot of the marking. and some of them are idiots that dont know how to mark essays. and its true, his slides are convoluted, too many dumb animations/colors
nig is so awesome, his slideshows are a little bit too much, but i think he's trying to keep things exciting, he tries really hard to make sure everyone does well, and he is always willing to help you out, overall i think hes a really awesome professor and makes polisci a fun and interesting class even if you don't plan on majoring in it
he's helpful and very apprachable.
Political Science with Nig is hands down the worst course I've ever taken. He's just awful.
Great prof, fantastic teacher. Engages by stimulating student's intellect rather than through physicality (he stands entirely still). Course is very interesting but FOR CHILDREN. Answer a question with ANY ANSWER, you get participation MARKS. Clicker marks, easy TAs... guaranteed a good mark but not a challenge.
nig is a really great teacher, think that his teaching style is a good way to help students get their grounding when they get to university. he is always helpful and a great person. He lets you get participation cards you can use to help buffer your grade when you need it because he understands that everyone falls behind a bit once in a while
Great teacher. He's so helpful and actually knows what he's teaching. His slides can go very fast sometimes and he speaks fast on top of that, but if you actually listen in lectures, he's funny and a great prof! take this class!!
He is hands down the most approachable and nicest professor at Western. He also has a very sarcastic and sometimes childish sense of humour that can be easily missed during lectures because of his fast talking speed.
Nig is an absolute beaut. Nuff said.
Good prof, also entertaining at times!
He talks really fast, but has a good sense of humor. I can't pay attention in this class because of the monotony of his voice, and in addition, I hate political science. He was alright. Not great.
He turned interesting material (terrorism, int'l crime, etc) into what seemed like dull material, whereas his counterpart, prof. jones, turned dull (philosophical theories) into interesting material. Spoke very fast. In his defense, I didn't attend office hours, so the stuff he spoke through quickly I didn't grasp, but IMO that's not what OHs are 4
Nig seems like a very nice and approachable person. It seems, though, that he has trouble keeping students engaged. A nice class, but I'm not chomping at the bit to be taught by him again.
He is a great professor although is classes can become boring and simple concepts can become over complicated. Overall I did enjoy his class and would love to take a course with him as my professor again.
Good teacher, very nice, very funny. Fair exams with some funny answers overall i enjoyed his class.
He's a fantastic prof in that he does everything he needs to in order for you to succeed. I hate to say it didn't work for me though. I imagine he would be better suited to teaching a room of 500 than a class of 30. I just didn't connect with him or the material, and I blame myself only because he puts so much effort into everything.
Amazing Prof! always wants you to succeed and is willing to take the time for your success. take his class. looking forward to another class with him.
Pros: he has an amazing sense of humor, really nice, is very willing to help his students, and gives ALOT of opportunity for extra marks (clickers, etc). CONS: HIS LECTURES ARE THE WORST. He talks extremely fast with no cohesion (nobody pays attention), lots of textbook, i and his slides are terrible! Not a bird course and I wouldn't recommend it.
Nig is a great teacher but he needs to talk slower. He deserves to have a family to come home to so if anyone knows a nice lady for him.....
Horrible teacher. Silly and talked to fast. Didn't get through all the material because there was too much of it. On line grading for quizes and clicker didn't work properly. Really a waste of time to go to his class- would have been better to do online
Nice nice person. Very bad teacher - horrible infact. Often didn't understand what he was teaching. He just talked really fast about everything he knew about world politics. Slides, quizzes and notes all a mess and didn't function properly for the course
I actually really liked his class, I thought he was funny albeit I didn't really pay much attention. The textbooks were helpful for clarification but he does talk quickly. Also recommend not taking this as an evening course as you will most likely sleep through it. I enjoyed his many pop-culture references on the exams!
Okay teacher - very helpful and approachable. Great outline and help for the essay. The book was easier to understand than him, but his quizes online and tutorial questions helped clarify what was needed to know. Great exam prep class for the final exam.
While extremely enthusiastic and supportive, his approach to IR political theory can leave you a little scattered. It's already tough material to learn, and he doesn't really help you learn. His marking is fair- but his exams are difficult.
Good prof. Not as engaging as Jones, but you really don't need to pay attention in class because he posts decent notes online and you can fill in the blanks by reading the textbook. He rambles in lecture and he's hard to follow but his powerpoints are helpful. He does everything he can to help students get the best grade possible.
I ended up dropping this course because I changed areas of study. BUT I had him for a month during my first year and when I explained to him that I was dropping his class, he offered to help me through the course. I agree with others, his lectures for difficult to understand, but he's great overall and really wants you to succeed.
Awesome
Nig is the man. Extremely easy to talk to and ask questions. Although he talks quickly and often times a lot, he is an extremely dedicated teacher who you will love! Take his courses!
Got an A, but I'm bored out of my mind. A typical lecture consists of the prof spewing out information while you take notes. Forget about discussion, it's just all rote memorization. The significance of what is taught is not explained, so I simply forget everything I learn after tests. Completely pointless class that emulates high school.
He's a great guy, not a great instructor. He treats 2231E as if it's a survey course - barely delving into specifics and not giving you a thorough understanding of anything. This is probably why I didn't mind him for 1020E - it's general stuff. Also, he said the exams would be MC on the syllabus but they ended up being short answer and essay...
While Prof Narain is probably one of the nicest profs you will ever have, his lectures are sometimes unclear. He often goes off on unrelated subjects and loses track of class time. I would recommend reading the texts as opposed to using class notes for exams. He is very approachable and super nice to every student.
He's a great prof, always friendly and helpful. People say his lectures go on tangents, and I can understand why you'd be frustrated if you're not listening and just writing everything down. You have to USE YOUR BRAIN and realize what the main points are. Also, 2231 is a survey course, "Into to IR." That's why he treats it like a survey course.
Hammers class with so much periphery information. Assigns double assignments when he doesn't need to (e.g., 2 essay outlines instead of 1). Really wish he'd streamline his lectures--it'd make it clearer for him as well as the class.
Extremely friendly as a person, goes out of his way to help. However, his lectures get boring at times and have a tendency to be overloaded with information.
Prof Narain is a great professor. His lectures are slightly hard to follow given that there is so much material to cover in the first year survey course, however he is there to help in office hours. Follow through with your readings and you should do fine in his class
He's a good professor and is willing to go through your essay together. He wants to make sure you understand all material.
Very understanding towards his students and very helpful. He's a wonderful person and professor. It was a pleasure taking courses from him.
Found his lectures to be inconsistent with what was on the exams. He comes to class prepared to teach, yet teaches you nothing of quality, just quantity. Found the textbook to be much clearer and more helpful in course content. I emailed him and it took him 2 week to reply.
Prof. Narain is a great professor in the sense that he is an awesome guy. He is super nice to talk to and very helpful if you need the help. However, I find his lectures to be very confusing. He has slides that are all colours with sound effects and pictures and can be very tough to follow. I found it easier to read the text and apply it.
A truly skilled professor who cares about his students and has a genuine passion for the material he teaches. Very hardworking and highly recommended!
Really great guy. Gives fair tests, but only negative is his lectures are really confusing. However, he is willing to spend hours for extra help before exams, which helped me get 90s on the exams.
He's an awesome prof that truly cares about his students and will go the extra mile to help you. The only bad side is that he tends to ramble on his points but he's so sweet that it doesn't bother me. His lectures are made available on OWL and he makes sure you understand the material.
The lectures were very bland, and hard to follow. There is so much information to write/ type, that you end up being too busy trying to get everything down, and evidently don't get much out of the lectures other than good notes. Other than this, he is a really good guy, and truly cares about his students. He is also very accommodating and helpful.
I don't think I've ever had such an amazing professor in my life. He really changed the way I view politics as well as the school system in general. He legitimately saved my university career. LOVE HIM!
I personally hated Political Science 1020 as a course, but professor Narain made it bearable. Nig tries his best to make the lectures interesting, but the material makes it difficult. Also the exam is entirely based on lectures (I stopped reading entirely after second semester and my marks improved) so I wouldn't bother even buying the books
Dr. Narain works hard on his lectures, he rambles a lot but he is only trying his best to make his lectures clear. He is very kind and helpful on essays.
My favourite prof I had in first year. Cannot stand poli Sci but nig made it bearable. His humour helped the 2 hour lecture seem shorter. Truly cares about his students & will make an effort to help you and build a relationship with you. Don't buy the textbook, everything is covered in lectures. Wish I liked poli sci more so I could have him again.
Nig is more than a professor, he is a friend. On the first day of class he gives out his cell number so students can contact him in the case of an emergency. One time he said he bailed a student out of jail. On top of this, his lectures are humourous and very engaging. I wish I could have him again as my prof!
Nig's passion and care for student success is clear, however I wasn't a fan of his lectures. He uses anecdotes for everything and I found that it sometimes took away from the actual content/ he gets off track. Provides an abundant amount of grading criteria/instructions & exams are very fair and easy if you study.
A great prof and a great guy; he is really friendly to all his students and really helpful when you go to see him for office hours. One of my favourite profs and people at Western.
the best prof I ever had in my entire life
Nigmendra Narain is honestly my favorite prof, hes adorable and hilarious, Nig is an amazing prof as hes relatable and always makes himself available. ALSO NIG I LOVE YOU FOR POSTPONING THE ESSAY 11/9/2018
Made the first year transition into university the best. He makes an effort to get to know you, is so funny, has amazing lectures. Best class I took.
LITERAL GOD!!!!!! AMAZINGLY SUPERB HUMAN BEING WHO IS THE GOD INCARNATE!!!!
This man moved the essay deadline from Friday to Monday because of the crapstorm the possible strike was whipping up. He's also great at everything else and gets his points across extremely well.
Very caring guy
A true legend, moved the essay up 3 DAYS due to the strike crisis. We need more human beings like Nig.
Incredibly nice and caring. Very fair and reasonable (albeit lengthy) exams as well. Everything on the exams is covered in the lectures so honestly if you go to class you can get away with not buying the textbook. Also makes a lot of scandalous jokes which makes lectures kinda fun, however he does have a tendency to ramble on sometimes.
Professor Nig is the biggest beauty on the planet. LOVE HIM, such an angel. Easy tests, good time, very funny lectures. King.
Nig is literally the best and most caring professor I've ever had in my life. He truly cares about his students and will go above and beyond to ensure their needs are met. I honestly have never had another professor as caring as him.
He's extremely sweet and kind, and just a really pleasant person to listen to. His tests are extremely easy given you study a little bit, and the only real issue is the way he makes his lecture slides. However if you show up to class and write alongside them, or even just take notes from the textbook, you'll be very okay.
Amazing prof that I got to know outside of lectures, super helpful and approachable, his lectures are interesting too.
I love nig. best prof i've had. ever.
His lectures can get a little confusing because he wants to share so much information and connect the dots for students, but he is genuinely the kindest soul who really cares. If you go to his office hours and get to know him, he helps a lot (tells you exactly what he wants for exams, acts as a reference, etc).
What a gem. Such a funny prof who actually wants to you to succeed. The true MVP of poli sci. I want to take every single course he runs because he's just so amazing and kind.
The best prof I've had in my undergrad. He goes above and beyond for his students. I missed two lectures and I went to his office hours and he went through every slide of the lectures with me, as if he was teaching it to a class. Would highly recommend him and his courses!!! He really does care and he also ensures the class is engaged.
He cares about students, as well as makes lectures interesting, explains concepts well, lectures can get boring at times depending on topic, lecture slides really help when studying for the final, very simple to understand. Easily accessible outside of class, and the quizzes are clear and easy to do well in (if you study). Overall, great professor.
Professor Narain was one of the best instructors I had in first year, and I think it's safe to say everybody loved him. He was always eager to help as much as he could and actually cared about his students. I enjoyed lecture, I thought he was really interesting, although he talks a little fast so it may be difficult to keep up.
Wow. Loved having Nig as my prof even though it was a night class never wanted to miss a lecture. He is engaging and clear in his lectures and is very accessible outside of class to talk about the content, course or program overall. Lectures are important unless you want to read the textbook front to back in detail on your own. Highly recommend!
So, Prof Nig is a no. Not my cup of tea, to say the least. He's a funny, personable gentleman, but his slides are an absolute mess and it is hard to comprehend what he really wants us to get out of the lesson. The class also moves very quickly, and lecture slides are not posted after class, so you better find yourself a seat (in class). Good luck!
Hes a great professor, interesting and funny. His lectures are organized and flow nicely . He connected theory to everyday examples. Overall, highly recommend to take his class .
AMAZING professor. His slide deck is easy to understand, and really sums up everything you need to know for the test. Hes so generous and caring with his students, he often brought us food for his class to eat. He tells jokes in class, and it always makes me look forward to going every time. You can tell hes really passionate about what he does.
Great prof. I think he knows that the content of the course is a bit dry, so he keeps you paying attention in lecture with snacks and jokes. All students have so much respect for him, all around good guy with very fair exams. Very accessible and kind if you need help during office hours, quick email responses. Highly recommend this class
He's a great orator but its really hard to decipher what is pertinent information and what isn't. Kinda made me inclined to skip more than I normally would.
He once gave me half a box of donuts for helping him move a box of essays. A true legend.
His lectures were sometimes a bit unorganized and a little hard to follow, but if you pay attention you'll be fine, and he's a very funny and engaging prof so I never got bored during class. Overall a great prof that cares a lot about his students and their wellbeing!
You need to take a class with Nig at least once. He plays music before lecture, brings snacks, and makes the content enjoyable. Don't bother buying the textbooks; you can get A's on the exams from studying lecture and tutorial notes. Nig is always available to help with essays or questions. Prepare for an onslaught of email updates though!
Professor Narain is a very caring professor. Definitely one of the nicest people I have ever met and truly cares for his students. His intro course is not difficult. The only critique I have about prof Narain is that he uses too many examples and does not explain the concept throughly enough for some students to grasp.
absolutely loved this class!! was pretty interesting and professor narain made it fun; content was generally pretty interesting, definitely some dry stuff in the beginning though. No midterms either, and everything is graded super easy. I think the class is now Poli Sci 2144 (Politico-tainment)
Nig is super enthusiastic and you can tell that he loves what he does and wants his students to succeed. i took polisci 1020E and HATED it because it wasn' necessarily relevant to today's world and the exams were decently in-depth, however, i would say that they were fair. the course was super heavy on the readings which were hard to keep up with
Best professor in the political science department by far. A great lecturer and a genuine person.
Professor Narain took advantage of the pandemic with asynchronous lectures. I've had lectures from him, and this is not exaggerating, which added up to around 4-5 hours. Not including the readings! Seems like a great guy but he overloaded us, I feel lost because of this. I bet he's a great proff when everything was in class, humorous man!
the goat
Narain is a prof that doesn't care about the well being of his students. He makes his job easier at the expense of the student's work load being unreasonable. I've had multiple weekly lectures that add up to 3-4 hours (just one lecture), this isn't including readings. He doesn't care about his students, he does the bare minimum of what a prof does.
This guy gave us a 4 hour lecture for multiple classes. He's lazy with making his lecture and will post them halfway through the week making our jobs harder. He was too lazy to make his lectures for week 9 so he decided to put weeks 9 and 10 together in one week. His exams don't have a template, so good luck with that. One of the worse profs ever.
He is by far the best prof at this institution. He is funny, engaging and extremely respectful.
Very nice and approachable person. However, his lectures are long and he takes forever to get to the point. I once asked him one question after class and he spent 30 min. answering it.... I mean, I am grateful for his dedication but it was a bit lengthy standing there for 30 min...
I get the feeling that I would enjoy Nig more in an inperson class, but online he is not it. He gave us a wild amount of lecture videos that we would never have been able to get if it was not an online class. I can tell he is enthusiastic about what he is teaching, but it's hard to understand what he's really trying to teach. A lot of tangents.
Nig is a great prof. I took his class online but have heard great things about his in-person lectures and I am sure they are even better than online. His exams are not difficult and he is a very caring and charismatic person. One thing, his online lectures were LONG... LIKE REALLY LONG (4 HOURS SOMETIMES) and he did post some of them late. 4/5
Professor Nig is always so cheerful in his lessons. Due to Covid, I had his lectures provided to me as pre-recorded videos. In his lectures, he connects real world examples to his lessons. He is overall an amazing professor and very understanding. In regards to the actual course, it is hard and you need to try if you want a really high mark.
A passionate and nice fellow. Emailed me a few times to thank me for miscellaneous things I did. His lectures are REALLY long (emphasis) but he does his best to make them funny, which they are. Rambles a lot though which makes already long lectures feel longer. Overall, good man. Don't take PS1020E as a bird (its not), take it if truly interested
Content was easy to understand and his tests were pretty straightforward; as long as you listened in lecture you don't need to study too much. There's copious amounts of reading assigned, but it was easy enough to do well without doing all of them. Just do them if you want to or are having trouble with certain concepts.
Nig hands back assignment and exam marks back almost two months after they are submitted but will dock you 10% for handing in an assignment 30 seconds after the due date. Apparently profs don't have to follow the own rules they set for themselves and Nig is a shining example. His lectures are unnecessarily long and he goes off topic 100% of thetime
Such a gem. Always makes lectures funny and engaging. Super easy to do well on exams ( questions straight from lecture slides). Lectures are very long (2-5 hours/week). But he really does make it super easy for you to do well if you watch the lectures and take notes! Very nice and really funny.
This guy is uploading 3-5 hours of ONLY lecture videos per week. Not including bonus tutorial videos and readings, it's a really heavy course load for no reason!!
Nig is a pretty solid prof. He makes a lot of references to pop-culture and has made online learning very fun. He should work on making his online lectures shorter, as some have lasted 5 hours, not including readings or tutorials. Overall, fun class and a caring guy. I hope to see him teach in person next year!
Professor Narain was the highlight of my online school experience. While his lecture videos are long, they were interesting, fun and provided all the information needed for the exams which are very manageable. The textbook helps to supplement the lectures as well. I cannot say enough good things. I highly recommend taking his class if possible!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Amazing lecturer, does such a great job in teaching and caring about his students' success.
Nig is awesome, but he is absolutely terrible at answering questions and emails. He gives 0 support with online learning.
Professor offered no zoom lectures, tutorials, or any way for students meeting him for the first time to get really engaged with the material. I didn't enjoy the class and didn't do that well in it despite getting A's across my other classes. Covid has made online teaching hard but this is just not a supportive thing to do
Professor Nig is a very talented teacher. His lectures, although long, are very informative and easy to follow. He doesn't always respond to emails, but he gives out his phone number, and is VERY responsive to text messages. Warning that the 1020 textbook is VERY wordy, and a pain to read. His lectures explain the material perfectly, though.
I loved Prof. Nig! His lectures were always entertaining, and highly informative. The quizzes and discussions help you reflect on the material and really learn it well. His sense of humour is injected into the lectures, and make them even more enjoyable. Super bird course. Show up, do the basic work, and you're guaranteed at least a 90.
So sweet! Will give you his personal number if you want to urgently reach out to him. Super accommodating and understanding of circumstances. He gave me really useful feedback for my essay which most professors don't really do. He makes lectures super fun and engaging although they are a bit long but it's not dreadful. Exams were straightforward.
Nigmendra is an amazing professor and person but he is so unorganized with marking and returning assignments. His lectures are really great but they also tend to be really long. I was upset that the tutorials were online too i feel as if the course could have been structured better. however nig was amazing but he could have done better
Loved every class with Prof Narain. He was always willing to help and was great with responding to questions/emails in a timely manner. Highly suggest taking the course with him if you can. I found the textbooks weren't necessary but can be a great way to familiarize yourself with the content before lectures.
insane amount of lecture content and exams are all over the place, and not worded well. Professor is super nice and means well but personally I did not enjoy the content at all which made it very hard to get done each week.
Great teacher. My only thing is that lecture videos are sort of long. If the class was delivered fully in person it would've been 10/10. Prof Nig always keeps it engaging and is a very nice guy. It is visible he cares for his students. If every teacher at UWO cared as much as he did it would be exceptional. Watch the lecture videos and you'll like.
Super funny. Tons of video lectures tho ranging from 4-7 hours per week and then there are readings that you aren't tested on. Exams are super easy to do well on as mine were online and open book.
Puts in unequal effort between his classes and is hard to get a hold of
Definitely a great person but is so hard to get a hold of as he barely responds to emails and doesn't have set office hours. There's a lot of textbook reading involved and the lectures can get long. For the final exam, we had less than a minute to answer every question (140 questions in 120 minutes) which wasn't fair. Interesting course tho!
This prof is super nice and enthusiastic about poli sci, but the exams are extremely unfair; beware of questions in testing that have nothing to do with the course content. Other than that the class was bearable but very boring if you don't love learning about political ideologies
Professor Nig was easily the best professor I had this semester! Where do I begin? His course ran flawlessly and was incredibly enjoyable! Lecture videos were great, in-person lectures even better. He's willing to stick around after class for over an hour to talk to students. Also he responds to emails usually within 5 minutes. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Nig is an awesome prof. His lectures are super interesting and engaging. He's very passionate about poli sci. The tests are really chill for this class as long as you pay attention and make exceptional notes for the lectures. Readings aren't necessary but do help.
Super sweet professor. He's a great guy, but a little irresponsible. It can be quite a journey to get ahold of him. Also, the assessments were really focused on the readings, rather than the lectures. Nonetheless, a great professor. Passionate about what he teaches, and loves his students.
Makes long lecture videos entertaining by adding jokes and making relevant connections. If you took good notes on the lectures a high marks on the exams are very achievable. His in-person lectures were engaging and helped clarify concepts. Textbook reading isn't necessary but is helpful to reinforce understanding.
I had Nig last year and wasn't too fond of him. This year he was a bit better but still not my cup of tea. He is a good lecturer that provides clear explanations. However, his weekly quizzes and exams are terrible. He also just reuses lectures that are very dated and don't reflect modern politics. He is a respected prof but doesn' seem to care much
great!
Professor Nigmendra's lectures were absolutely hilarious and entertaining to listen to! While his papers were graded very tough, his midterms and final exams are incredibly easy. The questions come straight from his lectures, but he does give you little time per question to compensate for it (45 seconds a question).
Professor Narain is super nice and gives interesting lectures. He is very understanding so if you are having any problems about meeting deadlines or any issues regarding the class, talk to him in advance. Exams are pretty easy and fair, it gets a lot harder second semester tho. Readings are not required to do well but it sometimes appears on exams.
Interesting lectures but too long. Supposed to be 2 hours per week, sometimes around 4. Interesting tutorial topics, one major essay. Really nice guy. Multiple choice open book exams.
Filled lectures with irrelevant terminology and talked way too fast. Did not have enough time to take notes.
Covers lots of material very quickly
By a VERY wide margin my favourite prof in my first year at Western. Explained material well and gave very fair deadlines for the essay assignment. Exam questions came directly from lecture and reading material, if you do the readings - this class was a breeze.
Nice person. Would not recommend taking his classes. Lazy professor and clearly understands he has tenure. Uses recycled videos from 8 years ago as his lectures. Not responsive to student emails and not willing to address grievances. Extremely difficult final exam worth 50%.
Great professor who gives lots of opportunity to do well.
Great dude. Horrible course. So unorganized. Love the guy tho.
He's a caring, lovely professor who genuinely has a passion for the subject at hand. Engaging lectures, and takes the time to establish rapport with his students.
amazing professor! my favourite class and professor out of everyone i've had! I enjoy his class and the way he explains the content is very understandable. Nig has his personal number on the syllabus so if he does not respond to emails on time then shoot him a text and he will respond right away! Very cool and fun professor!
Honestly, prof nig seems like a great guy. But poli sci 1020 was probably THE WORST COURSE I HAVE EVER TAKEN. The TAs have no idea what's going on. Marking is extremely unorganized. The lecture videos are recycled since COVID. No care for students. Expect to get your grades back 3 months after doing an assignment. Easy course but not worth taking.
By far my favourite professor, he truly cares about his students, and he makes assignments super clear. His lectures are straight to the point and clear, and he even had some guest lectures for extra credit and had fun activities for everyone to do after the lecture.
Fun lectures, one big essay with research, and online exams that are reasonable
rllylong time to reply expect an answer in 5 days expect assignments back in 3 months completed an essay in febuary, recieved itin may takes very long isnt even up for helping out with problems other students face while it was a bug in their system if u want to be ignored by the prof, not have ur assigns till may then go ahead and torture ur self
do not take this course he never replies back a super hard marker and never helps out me and other students got a 0 on essay bc he didnt see my email on time i repear do not take he didnt even fix a bug we all were facing
rlly rlly rlly bad prof do not take does not help creates ahrd exam and marks essays so we all fail
absolute trash
pls save ur self from this course
this course was so hard content hard and textbook heavy
It's a really easy course, but super disorganized. The assignments took months to get returned and had no feedback. Appeals take forever. Exams always have weird questions not from the lectures, and sometimes the content is just random. It's also hours of online videos. But, if you take good notes and Ctrl F during exams, you'll get an A.
He was really passionate during lectures, and it was interesting, but there was a lot of content on exams that was never discussed. Grading and feedback for assignments is very disorganized, and takes months to get back, if you even get feedback at all. Overall, a class that needs to be restructured.
Nig is amazing! You can tell he really cares about his students, and tries to make dry content more relatable and interesting with jokes. Highly recommend joining his office hours if you need help with any content, he really remembers his students and is a great person to ask for references too!
He doesn't teach, he reads off the slides and talks about past students. His grading scheme is also super unclear, neither he nor the TA were helpful.
His lecture were very poorly recorded with visual glitching, blurring, and pixelation, and terrible audio (which would also glitch). In general, explanations suck. He tends to move forward without fully explaining a concept and is often convoluted. This makes it challenging to follow his slides and grasp concepts. He tests for obscure info too.
Awful awful awful teacher. There is absolutely no clarity or sense to his lectures. He talks as if it's one giant run on sentence with the only segue being "Further to this..", without explaining how the two topics relate whatsoever. You're left guessing how one sentence is relevant to another, making understanding impossible.
I found the professor extremely lazy. He reuses glitchy/dysfunctional old lecture videos he made a couple of years ago, is slow at returning grades, and has poor and convoluted formatting on his website and exam questions (for which, he asks obscure and repetitive questions). If you want an informative and fun elective, don't take this class.
Very weird course - prof. used lecture material from a couple years ago and that would not be bad but some of the videos are so glitchy. His exams are honestly quiet tough. Must have great notes honestly.
The lecture content is from several years ago, glitchy, and hard to follow. Professor Nig has all the opportunities in the world to make this an exciting and engaging class. BUT it isn't. Takes forever to get marks despite tests being online and me receiving grades from written exams! Nigmendera had got to be one of the laziest at western.Terrible.
Easy course, prof clearly doesn't care though.
Nig is definitely passionate about what he is teaching. His lectures are fun despite the relatively dry content. The only problem I found was with exams containing questions that were not covered in readings or lectures. The test banks seem old and need to be sorted through. Otherwise, good prof and easy class.
He's so awesome!!! He is such a ray of sunshine and I loved going to his lectures. He always played music before class, handed out candies for kahoots and wore the craziest ties every week and they were all so unique and cool. He is also a great guy to talk to, I have no complaints with him at all.
Prof Nig is solid for lectures and how he teaches, however it is his responsibility to make sure grades are being processed in a reasonable manner. TA strike in April should not affect the marking for stuff from far before. Zero feedback on the essay outline which took months to mark, and essays have still yet to be marked.
nice prof. but an absolute joke of a course. Much more excited to do class work for every other class but this one. By far the most disorganized class. take psych
an amazing prof. 1020E doesn't require going to lectures as they are posted online but I encourage everyone to attend the lectures. He did a weekly Kahoot with prizes one of which was an extension on a paper, extra 2% on an exam etc, The marking was slow, still don't have my mark for an online mc exam which happened a month ago. Overall he was great
great prof, very passionate and well-informed. Loved his lectures but bro took way too long to give us back our work (2 months for EBO, 1 month after finals for Essay)
Great prof and class! Lectures aren't mandatory but very interesting. He was always easy to reach via email and would answer questions after class. The only thing is that essays and exams took an extremely long time to be returned but would still definitely recommend this course!
Great prof all in all. He makes the lectures interesting and has a great team of TA's. Tests are pretty easy and are online MC. Topics are given for the writing component but you get lots of help formulating ideas and gain lots of feedback on your rough draft.
The OWL site was quite disorganized. But that's the only real complaint. He also brought in food for us every single lecture. He's a very giving man. He also responds to emails very quick. If you don't like this prof, you're probably not going to like anyone.
A solid professor overall, but the slow feedback and marking process can be frustrating. Engaging lectures and helpful TAs, but make sure to use resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook for study prep.
Awesome professor, despite turnout in his night class being low (maybe 10 ppl showed up after midterms), this didn't phase him at all, he was super entertaining in his lectures. Quick to reply to emails and always happy to chat. Content was easy as long as you did the readings, watched the videos, and went to class. Attendance for TA-led tutorials.
Did our midterms on November 16th and we still don't have our grades back, I call bs, it been two weeks. Either the tech team is extremely inefficient or the prof is lying which I believe is the case here. The exam was completely conducted online, meaning marking is automated. Please do your job properly
He's just a chill guy. Lectures are amazing, it's evident he cares about his subject matter. Help and communication is also excellent, he cares about his students. Lectures make sense, he's happy to answer you mid lecture and have a mini discussion even to help you understand the content. Definitely recommend the course with him.
Chill course, takes a long time to give out grades tho but easy bird
Best prof, explains content well. Takes a long time to give back grades but such a bird class.
I take every course I can with this prof! His lectures are super interesting, 100% recommend.
Extremely unfair for no reason whatsoever. Just an unfair guy and rude for literally no reason. Could have easily helped me out but did not even though it cost him nothing.
Very rude and overall was not a good prof. Was disrespectful and extremely unfair to me for no reason. Do not recommend.
Best course ever
Took way too long to get marks back, there were multiple typos in the questions, and just overall a course that can be run much better.
A very good professor who will often do little games in class to help students get some extra rewards. The exams are online, but the time frame is very tight, about a minute to complete a question, so it's a good test of mastery of the course content. But it is still very recommended to take his course!
The only Prof whose lectures I never skipped. Made every class enjoyable, and would even hand out snacks during the night class. Overall, amazing professor!!
Don't expect anything to be returned within a reasonable time. Online multiple choice tests took over a month to get back. Essay written early February wasn't returned before the final exam in late April.
Don't bother coming to class, DO NOT EVER dare to buy the textbooks either
Great professor and extremely interesting classes but the amount of time you have to wait to receive grades back is utterly ridiculous. Essay submitted in late February is still not returned in early May
Easily one of the best profs at Western, very very kind
Absolutely beauty
Amazing prof, nicest guy you will ever meet and cares about everyone. Tries to make the lectures fun and enjoyable
Very kind and considerate prof genuinely cares for safety and success of students
This midterm was brutal. We were told it was open book, but honestly, that didn't matter when we had 120 questions in 120 minutes many of them paragraph long and intentionally worded to confuse. There was barely time to read some of them, let alone think or check notes. It felt less like a test of knowledge and more like an endurance event.
this is political science, not a gladiator match. apparently 50% of our grade was up for grabs like some cruel campaign. and the best part? we don't even get to see the results. so we just… suffer in silence? democracy, but make it ironic.
people, please if you value your mental health, avoid this course like it's radioactive. it's not “challenging,” it's chaotic. 120 questions in 120 minutes? half of them mini essays, the other half worded like riddles. you won't even have time to blink….please, for your own sake, skip this one. it's not worth the trauma or the caffeine bills.
Prof Narain seems like a very nice person! Unfortunately, the lectures are challenging to complete. There are lots of visual and audio glitches, making learning difficult. Also, classes are done, and we still don't have access to the final lecture material. It's unethical to provide essential course content only during the exam period.
Very incompetent of a prof. So lazy that he couldn't even upload the final lecture during the last week its now the final exam period and its still not there…nor has he made any attempt to communicate if it will still be tested on the final. Joke of a class. He gets paid to do this???????
Have you ever wanted to meet Helen Keller? If so, take this class and meet her for yourself. You will not be heard, seen, nor will he communicate with you. Doesn't not answer questions well. Tough grader and has so many glitches in his videos
The content of the class was simple enough, but the assessments were not. The midterm was online and unproctored, then curved down to punish those who did not cheat. The guidelines for the final essay were incredibly strict, but also vague at the same time. In addition, Nig goes on irrelevant tangents in lecture constantly. Not hard, but not a bird
this prof is a walking red flag. ghosts emails like it's his hobby, uploads stuff late, and acts rude for no reason. i even shared a personal circumstance and he couldn't care less. exams and assignments feel like chaos, nothing adds up. super unprofessional, holy hell avoid this circus
This man may genuinely be evil. He is the human being i have ever had the displeasure of being taught by. The fact that my tuition, in part, paid his bills, fills me with a rage and shame I cannot begin to describe.
Clearly too old to be handling an online class as lectures are rather poor quality. Seems nice enough at times. Has an ego. Reused old content.
Great guy! Responds to emails fast and is helpful. Grade is only the midterm and final so study well because you only have a minute per question(120 mins, 120 questions). Not super hard to get a good grade. Made a mistake with our last lecture posting, so he's giving us a bonus quiz to add to our final (basically free marks). Overall a good class!
Super funny and very engaging. Participation is worth 15% of your grade so definitely raise your hand during tutorials and show up to lectures. Very clear with expectations, with an extremely detailed Brightspace page for students' convenience and varying office hours available as well. Quite flexible with deadlines, and is very caring. Great prof!
In my opinion, this course was very hard to engage with. I really wanted to like it, but the prof seems very uninterested in his own course. The lectures never really made sense, just felt like the prof was blurting out whatever came to mind. Videos are old and glitch out. Maybe he is good in person and this class just does not do him justice lol
DOES NOT answer emails. I repeat, he doesn't ANSWER EMAILS. Every other professor answers but apparently this professor is too busy to take the time to acknowledge you.. almost like he's some Hollywood pop celebrity. Very frustrated with his lack of communication
The final exam questions were written HORRIBLY: intentionally deceitful; poorly worded; had spelling mistakes. The questions sometimes had NO correct answers based on the material. Despite watching all of the lectures and doing all of the readings, it was a guessing game. I am extremely disappointed and upset that my effort was for nothing. AVOID!!
Midterm and final are worth 50% open-book, non-proctored, non-cumulative. Videos could get a little glitchy at times, but it was fine if you were just listening. If you like TV and politics, then you will enjoy the class and do well. If you watch the videos and do the readings, you will be fine. Good grade booster
