Probably one of the best math professors I've ever had. She is ALWAYS willing to help you if you are not sure about a topic and always encourages her students to attend office hours for further clarification. She is very positive and knows her stuff well.
In short, I wish she would teach all of the math classes
Her tests were extremely difficult and her lecture notes were hard to follow and confusing.
I absolutely loved this TA. Her exams were difficult but she lets you know in advance what is expected of you so you can perform well if you know what to study. She is also very helpful in office hours. I absolutely suck at math but I put in hours of effort and received an A in her class. I heard she is teaching Calc 3 in Spring 2017.
Super sweet teacher! Knows her material very well. You should attend her class to keep track the material. Highly recommend her!
Ms. Acar was a blessing this semester. I came into this class with credit from high school and she made it possible for me to succeed. The tests were not overly difficult yet tested the material. She was very accommodating and accessible during office hours. She honestly deserves higher than a 5 and I would love to take another class with her.
Worst math teacher Ive ever had
Best math teacher I have ever had by far. Changes her office hours to fit what works best with her students. Just do practice problems online and it's an easy A
Great teacher. Caring and willing to help at anytime.
Dr. Acar IS ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL MATH TEACHERS I HAVE EVER HAD. She actually cares about all of the students passing her class and if she realizes that you are struggling, she extends her help outside of class during her office hours. Even though the material can be hard at times, she will always be there to help.
Nihan Acar was not even present for this class. T.A.'s led the whole thing and I heard from many people that she is impossible to get ahold of (like, does not reply to emails ever). Take this class though it is good for patching up any holes in your math schema and if you do everything you will probably get an A.
Dr. Acars class was extremely easy, as the video notes were easy to follow and the course content was very manageable. However, Dr. Acar herself was not very personable or reachable. She would consistently ignore students emails and came off as stand-offish the few times she attended our required live lab sessions.
While most of the class consisted of pre-recorded lectures and virtual quizzes and tests; Dr. Acar was generous with extra credit and made due dates very clear. She also has optional lectures 3x a week that go into the material in more detail for those who are struggling!
Great professor! I struggle with math and I think this is the best professor I could have gotten. The tests are identical to the notes. She is super sweet and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you succeed. Offers extra credit. Lectures are recorded but she offers live sessions where you can ask questions.
Dr. Acar really cares about her students and wants you to do well. She isn't tricky or asks anything on tests that she hasn't taught. She's very smart and really knows her stuff, holds optional help sessions to show you how to do the problems. As long as you understand and do the HW (that are just like the tests), you'll be fine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dr. Acar was not present. She did not reply to any emails, she did not teach her lectures (a video was posted from another lady), and because it was online she did not create nor grade any of the tests or quizzes. She does not show up to labs either. If you have a problem with grades, you may as well be speaking to a wall.
If you struggle with math, I do not recommend you take this class. Ive taken up to precalc and still struggled with this class. She ZOOMS through lessons and is so focused on getting as much information as possible that its difficult to keep up. She explains things in confusing ways and is never very clear. There are also weekly quizzes
TBH as an accounting major myself, I never thought i could hate math as much as I did while taking MAC with Dr. Acar. I ended up dropping the class since she EXPECTS you to know all the material, for which the lectures are just her solving math problems. The class notes are not even hers so you are actually learning thanks to another professor.
AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COST. Bad class to begin with, even worse of a teacher. Students depend on outside resources to get a decent grade. It seems like she doesn't even care about the student's grade. Thinks a D average is "good". Gets mad when students fail, but should know that if everyone fails it's not the students, but the teacher. AVOID
Overall Good class. Gets a little annoyed easily but other than that, easy going and an easy course if you pay attention.
She speeds through lectures and is so disorganzied. Your grades are just hw and quizzes and tests.
Whatever you do. Take someone OTHER THAN DR. ACAR. Any other professor. I took her class most recently (Fall 2021) and I had to withdraw because of how incompetent of a teacher she is. She DOES NOT care about her students (nor their grades). All of the lectures are mandatory, but she doesnt teach anything and expects you to know the material BEFOR
I never thought I could take a harder math class in my life with the worst professor ever. She is rude, speeds through lectures, expects you to know everything, and doesn't explain things clearly. Also the mathlab program we use for tests, quizzes, and homework is HORRIBLE. I hated every day of this semester in this class. Pick any other teacher!!
This class was easy for me because I remembered everything from high school. When she was teaching, I would go ahead of her and just check my work with hers. On the rare occasion I would follow along with her, she was confusing and sometimes even incorrect in what she was saying. I do not recommend this professor, she just makes your life harder.
Acar does not help during lectures, her class is merely you learning everything by yourself since you literally learn every topic by yourself. The tests are weighted heavily, I highly don't recommend taking this class if you do not need to. Acar especially does not help, she explains things and makes it more confusing.
This class isnt difficult but she makes it difficult. Her required lectures confused me more than they helped. Quizzes are mostly like the review but if you have a problem with your grade she will never fix it.
Shes a horrible professor who is very rude and does not care about anything you have to say. She is rude in emails whenever u express a concern, speeds through all lectures and expects u to figure it out yourself, & doesnt care about how u do in her class or about u. U learn nothing in her class either from how she teaches so it wastes ur time.
The only reason i did good in this class is because I took calc in highschool and was good at it. But if you dont know anyhting about calc than her class probably sucks because she doesnt teach at all and you are supposed to teach yourself everything and in class you just go over questions and it isnt really helpful. I never went. Dont take her
I think Dr. Acar is a pretty decent professor. Most of the time I would go ahead of the lectures and just use her to check my work. She isn't the nicest person and is a little rude. I personally had no issue with her but I know others who could never get ahold of her when needed. Personally if you are good at math and need a refresher she is good.
You have to know the material before walking into classwelcome to college. The lecture videos are easy to understand, you just have to put in the time to understand the homework. I will say Dr. Acar does take a long time to respond to emails, and does NOT like being disrespected in class. There are quizzes every week that arent horrible.
I liked Dr. Acar. She was actually quite helpful when it came to getting a good grade. I think she dropped like 2 quiz grades and curved 1 test. The lecture videos are easy to understand, but you definitely have to practice the problems to get the hang of things. If you actually put in effort you'll be good. GO TO THE HELP SESSIONS!!!
I liked her as a professor but sometimes she could be clearer in her explanations in lecture. It was an easy A for me because Im good at math and I felt like the class was a recap from highschool. You need to put in the work to learn or you wont pass. She drops no exams (out of 3)
You get what you put into the class. If you participate in office hours, actively put in the time to learn the content by reading the textbook, etc., then you will most likely pass the class.
I don't know about other people but for her attendance she used learning catalytic, and it automatically would load with the question and answer choices laid out for you to choose from, and that was how she counted attendance. Her accent made it difficult to understand a couple of times but if you watch the videos for each section you will do fine!
This class is a straight up problem, an outside tutor is practically required and the prof is difficult to understand. The test and quizzes are all or nothing so make sure to enter your answer in correctly or you are gonna get 0 credit for that problem.
Do not miss a lecture! You learn a great deal in the course. I think Dr. Acar is a great professor and she is caring. Just make sure to not miss the hw deadline and study practice problems she assigns before each test, you will do fine!
MAC2235 (Business Calc) is a hard class, regardless of the professor. She tells you exactly how to succeed in the class and hires many TAs , so there are help sessions almost every day of the week. She gives us many resources to succeed and she really wants us to do well, but at the end of the day, its a difficult class so it all depends on you.
While Dr. Acar is sweet, shes a terrible teacher. Constantly rushing lectures, pushing back hw due dates because we didnt learn the material, sending out lecture notes without explanation and expecting us to understand them, if you havent taken AP calc, then Dr. Acars class is the worst place to get an introduction to Calculus.
Dr. Acar is an amazing and caring teacher, the current curriculum vs homework sucks though (math department problem) She does have an accent but i didnt find it difficult to understand. You absolutely have to dedicate time to this class, it's a 4 hour credit class for good reason. She's been flexible which is important so try to take her if you can
Be prepared to teach yourself
I would not take Dr. Acar if you are slower in understanding math. She goes too fast and you will have to teach yourself most of the work. 85 percent of your grade are the 3 tests and then a final worth 25 percent. There is a quiz every Monday which is annoying. Overall a tough class that is not made easier by Dr. Acar, I recommend taking Valdes.
Dr. Acar's teaching method is not my favorite but the material is also hard. I took high school pre-calc and a majority of this class was material I had already learned, but the new stuff was difficult. Watch the virtual lectures assigned, take good notes, and actively study the material while doing the homework assignments and you should be good.
Acar when speaking to her face to face is very kind. However, she does not teach her own class, it is a random videos online. She gives work Monday through Friday and it is very easy to fall behind. The tests and quizzes are a lot harder than what she teaches in class. In class she just gives examples and is very quiet. Do not recommend.
Be prepared to teach yourself course material
Stay clear of taking any classes with Dr. Acar. She is unclear of directions for MyMathLab and is very rude to contact. She is hard to understand and speeds through problems during lecture.
Prof. Acar is universally disliked by myself and everyone I've talked to who had to take her class. She doesn't talk clearly, and regularly got mad when someone asked a question she didn't deem worthy of her time. The class was noticeably less full nearing the end, as so many people had dropped the class or gotten a different professor.
What you get is what you put in for the most part. Lecture attendance gives you bonus points on quizzes and brownie points. Had a 90 test average and only missed 2 lectures but got a 80 on the final and she ended up bumping me .6 up to an A-. You have to watch the lecture videos!!! Cannot be successful without them.
Professor Acar is a good professor however, she is no-nonsense. The class itself is already challenging, so to succeed, you have to show up to lectures, and attend office hours. She offered help sessions every week to go over practice questions that contain basically identical questions to tests and quizzes. If you put the work in you will be fine.
Questionably one of the worse professors I have ever had. There is no talking to her because she doesn't care and will just send you a list of rules about how its your fault for anything.
DO NOT TAKE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! I was forced to take her because Valdez was on maternity leave. She is rude and uncaring to her students. Will stay with the lesson plan no matter what and make students suffer for it, giving us quizzes on wayyy too much material and expecting us to teach ourselves. HORRID!!! Waste of your time and money.
condescending and doesn't care at all if you're sick or fail. also way too many assignments and quizzes and going over materials way too quickly. i would avoid
She never respond to any emails and belittled us for emailing her and ta too often. Excuse me? We paid tuition so we are entitled to getting a timely response from professors. Lack of professionalism and doesn't care about students. Lecture are mehhh literally reading a manuscript, if participation didn't matter no one would have showed up.
This professor is hard! If you take this class, make sure your life revolves around studying. The lectures don't help, so don't bother going to class. Just watch the online lectures and make sure you get Skoolers and spend extra time studying. You need prior knowledge of college alg and calc in order to do decent in this class. Quiz/test every week
ATTENDANCE=EXTRA CREDIT; She goes way too fast and skips over things saying "well you should know how to do this" BUT WE DONT!!! She underexplains everything and goes so quick! Homework is nothing like the lessons and super hard. Quizzes every Friday and 4 tests. Skoolers saved my grade and I went to all of the lectures.
If you're not a really really strong math student, I don't recommend this class AT ALL. Dr. Acar moves very fast and gets annoyed when questions are asked. There is a quiz or test every week, and 2-3 homeworks a week as well. Most people use outside tutoring too. Test, quiz, and homework questions are much harder than the ones worked on in class.
she's mehhh, just be ready to spend 10-20 hours studying every week outside of class because she goes over the material insanely fast
She does move fast through the lectures but the material is doable as long as you put in the time outside of class. The lecture videos online do a better job of explaining the material in my opinion. The quizzes and test are very similar to the practice ones so you will know what to expect
SO MUCH HW! Hard exams. Group worksheets during recitation. She's not the nicest. Not horrible. Team up with other students and study problems similar to the practice exam. Practice exams are like real exams but make sure you know every question like the back of your hand. Gives 12-15 practice questions and chooses 5-6 to test. Reznikov is easier.
Dr. Acar wants you to succeed in her class. Email her if you're falling behind, she will help you catch up. Make sure you always finish the homework and do her worksheets, and review them constantly even if you think you know them. Office hours are a must. She's extremely caring and willing to work with you as long as you put in the effort.
Her teaching style may be fine for some people, but if you don't already have a clear idea of ALL the material for class before lectures, you will fall behind. This is not aided by the fact that Dr. Acar does not make clear what is expected as far as the formats for answers. Office hours are useful, but the sheer pace of the class is too much.
Dr. Acar is a really nice lady, and speaking to her one-on-one she is caring and wants you to do well. However, her lectures move at break-neck speed and she often assumes we know the "easier" things when she shouldn't. I feel like I'll be lucky to get a C-. A very hard class no matter who you take, but she definitely doesn't make things easier.
Dr. Acar is no-nonsense but is truly kind. She helped me get into her class when I ran out of options. She cares about students, responds to emails quickly, and provides help when needed. Attendance is for extra credit but not required. She's a good lecturer so I recommend going! The class itself is no picnic, but she makes it a lot better.
Nihan Acar ties for first place in a contest of the worst professors I have had at FSU; the other also in the math department. Many of the issues stem from the math department as a whole. Skoolers is the only way I passed this class. The TAs are as indifferent to your particular situations as she is. Be ready to give your soul to this class. 0/10
Plain and simple, the class is hard. I think Professor Acar gets a bad rep, but I think she was a really good teacher. The course is very fast paced and can be difficult if you do not have prior calculus background for sure. She did a good job though explaining the material. There are lots of office hours available and extra help. Quiz weekly
Overall, I didn't hate Dr. Acar, the lectures were pretty boring but overall it's just a tough class. If you have her I would get Skoolers for the semester.
Personally, I think Acar gets a bad rap because of how difficult the subject is, but she is not as bad as people say. The class itself is extremely challenging and she doesn't make it easier, but she has clear expectations and attendance only boosts your grade in the end. i recommend getting skoolers, it definitely helps. also go to office hours.
If you put in the work in this class you will be able to do well. Highly recommend going to office hours and ACE tutoring for any topic that may seem harder.
go to lectures to get the bonus points, but don't bother paying attention because you won't learn anything
This class had complete control of my life. Its so much work and is especially difficult if you didn't recently take a math class before this course. Acar was understanding but she didn't schedule assignments to be completed and tested on in a realistic and timely way until halfway through the year. GO TO ACE TUTORING it saved my life.
Overall Dr. Acar knows the material and does the best she can at explaining it to her students. As long as you pay attention to her lectures, OR watch the videos she provides in place of that and use ACE, you'll do just fine. The material itself is hard so be on top of your stuff because the weekly quizzes come too fast if you let them catch you.
Professor Acar gets a bad rep partly due to how hard the course itself is. Her lectures are average and some supplemental learning is required on some of the tougher topics. The class is fast paced but overall doable.
Quizzes and assignments every week so be ready for that. Business calculus is hard no doubt about it, but her ambiguous teaching is not helpful neither are her TAs helpful in my labs they are also very condescending. I just late dropped the course and will take it next fall when valdez or harris teaches this course again. AVOID!
Attendance is taken every class and there are quizzes (or tests) weekly. She's a terrible teacher so get ready to learn everything by yourself or on youtube. This class is hard by itself especially if you are not good at math.
She's mehhhhh definitely try to take Valdes' class instead
the class is easy, its the attendance and weekly quizzes/homeworks thats pita
lots of quizzes which is annoying, this class isn't hard but the lectures are incredibly boring and she goes over the material way too fast for most people
Dr. Acar is a good professor, this class is just so difficult. She doesn't make it unnecessarily hard, but she doesn't make it easy at all. She basically expects you to dedicate your whole life to this class. I studied so much and just barely passed.
I would really recommend creating a study plan for every week, and office hours. I think that Ms. Acar is a nice person. The subject is hard, her resources are limited and confusing, and study schedule is very odd. Her lectures are so boring and confusing. TBH go to class for the attendance and take a nap so u can stay up studying later.
Business calc is one of if not the hardest course here at FSU so we knew what we were in for when we registered for the course. What we didn't expect was that the professor doesn't know how to teach or have respect for students. She's terrible at delivering the material and acts condescending when we ask questions. Pick Valdes or Harris instead!
This class is very difficult and will require a lot of effort. However, Dr. Acar does provide the necessary materials to succeed in the class. Lectures are recorded and office hours are daily. Lectures are mandatory and super boring but you can just watch the videos later. Overall, this is not an easy A but the class is definitely passable.
MAC2233 is definitely a hard class and takes up all your time. But Dr. Acar very accommodating, extends the hw if needed and explains the material. Don`t waste your money on Skoolers! Just study regularly and you will do fine!!!
She's an okay teacher all and all. Business calculus is one of the hardest math classes at FSU so I guess it can't be helped. There are weekly quizzes and lots of homework so make sure you're ready to spend lots of time studying and avoid taking any other hard classes!
Attendance is optional but if you go you get extra credit. Gives lots of extra credit and has weekly help sessions with TA's & has zoom review sessions before tests. 3 test + final, & weekly quizzes. Has practice quizzes that are very helpful. Never taken calc before but have to practice. Has lectures on Canvas also. No need to get Skoolers.
This class is essentially the basic concepts of Calc 1 and 2, but it moves FAST. If you haven't had any experience with calculus, you may struggle a little bit. I took both AB and BC calc in high school, though, so this class was an absolute breeze, and I finished with a 98%. People kinda hate on Acar but she isn't bad at all, just no nonsense.
weekly homework and quizzes and she is a terrible teacher the workload is insane I ain't a math whiz but I've usually done pretty well in math courses but I'm struggling in this class because of too much work and terrible teachings
You HAVE to put in a lot of time and effort into this class. There are tons of resources that you can use:ACE tutoring and the weekly tutoring offered by Dr. Acar's T.A.s which are also free. You don't need skoolers. I am not a math person at all and I'm going to pass with a solid B. I think Nihan is a great teacher, the class is just hard...
Listen up. If you're in the cob you're sol. Acar has a thick accent and can be difficult to understand. My advice: 1. Don't choose Acar unless it is your last option. 2. ASAP go to skoolers. They periodically raise the price throughout the semester. Use it well and you will pass. Skoolers practice quizzes are similar to the real thing. Good luck.
I'll give her credit, Dr. Acar's nowhere near as bad as people make her out to be. This class isn't easy, but it's not impossible. Go to class for the extra credit, do her practice quizzes/tests, they're similar to the real ones, and watch the videos she posts on canvas, they saved my quiz and test grades. Not a bad idea to get Skoolers or a tutor.
Overall Nihan Acar was an average professor, she made attendance mandatory and if you went to all the lectures, she would replace your lowest quiz grade with a 100%. There are quizzes each week in person which weigh heavy into your grade. There is homework due every week and exams every so often.
Definitely gets a bad wrap because of the class she teaches. Simply put, the class is just hard. It's not her fault. I managed to finish with a 94 but I'll tell you I had to work my ass off for it. She provides a practice quiz/exam for everything she puts out that is very helpful. Just spam the practice quiz and exam every week and you'll do fine.
Professor Acar gets a lot of hate because she moves fast in lecture and can be difficult to understand, but she cares a lot about her students and gives out a TON of extra credit. She gives EC for attendance so attend class regularly. Also make sure that you do the practice quizzes/tests because they are identical to the real ones.
This class is actually extremely easy. Take your notes and do your homework, which you can skip most of due to the pre homework thing. Quizzes and tests are identical to the practice tests and quizzes. Literally just do what is assigned and you will breeze.
The lectures are incredibly boring and she expects too much of us. We are business people not math people and cannot possibly reach her expectations. Textbooks are helpful but not needed, you're forced to buy it as a package anyway but it won't be used. Lab quizzes and tests are frustrating. She and her TAs are very unhelpful in help sessions.
To be quite blunt this class is hard for no reason. This is why people switch out of the business school. Expect to put in hours of work a day to stay on track. This professor has a thick accent and you will not be able to understand. The only way to pass this class is Skoolers. Do not take this class unless you have no other option.
Terrible math teacher. I don't have a choice since that's a class I need to take to graduate in the summer and she's the only professor who teaches it. I would avoid taking any of her class if possible.
Dr. Acar is an excellent professor. As long as you go to lectures, do the homework and stay on top of things you will be completely fine. Make sure you have taken the necessary prerequisites or tested in and refreshed concepts if that's something you need to do before the semester starts. Pace is very manageable
Attendance is not really mandatory, but weekly labs are it makes up a way larger portion of total grade. The real problem is that this professor explain things terribly and go over materials at a pace that's beyond the capabilities of the supermajority of students. When I go to her office hours she basically told me to study hard and good luck...
AVOID! SHE PUT IN NO EFFORT TO TEACH AND JUST READ OFF HER NOTES, WHICH ARE PROBABLY COPIED AND PASTED SOMEWHERE ONLINE. GET READY TO TEACH YOURSELF THE MATERIAL WITH YOUTUBE
Dr. Acar is the LEAST favorite teacher I have EVER had, EVER! She literally cannot teach, and I have taken calc before this class too. She is EXTREMELY frustrating to work with, doesn't help you, and belittles her TAs too. Overall, there is NOTHING good/nice to say about Dr. Acar, and I'm not exaggerating. PLEASE do not choose her, I'm begging you!
Don't take this class unless you already have some basic understanding of calculus. And by basic understanding I mean know what you're doing before you even get to class, know it well, because apparently you're supposed to know how to do something she never properly explained. She's most likely not going to explain anything well either. Good Luck.
Very understanding with makeups and clear explanations in class and in office.
worst professor ever and have issues, couldn't take questions from students and belittles you when ask about clarification on the math presented, probably going thru menopause avoid if you want to learn or want a good grade
Shes a very nice lady however shes a bit confusing in the way she explains the material making it hard to understand the material. Futhermore, She moves very quick within the lessons and her accent is hard to understand. Overall take with caution
Never disliked a math course more in my life and Dr.Acar is the main reason why. Made the class unnecessarily difficult, spoke extremely fast in lectures without clarifiction. Not forgiving outside of class and exams are hard. I know people that did well but relied on Skoolers. If possible, avoid this professor.
Extremely difficult lectures heavily relied on schoolers to do well. she's a nice enough woman but not a great teacher.
Didn't really go to the lectures because you can learn everything on YouTube faster and probably better (she's from Poland or something has a strong accent). There are weekly quizzes so attendance in the labs are mandatory. Other than these drawbacks the class is easy especially if you have had calculus in high school.
The sheer pace of the class is too much. Her teaching style may be fine if you already have a good idea of what every single topic for each lecture is going to be beforehand. This whole class if like a youtube video you watch the night before a test to do a light-speed review. Don't take if you don't already have a solid understanding of topic.
Don't let these reviews scare you. Dr. Acar is an absolute sweetheart and truly cares about you passing. She sets you up for success, if you're struggling you're just not putting in enough work. The material is hard and she is trying her best.
Dr. Acar is an amazing professor! She made this class so much easier for me. You definitely should go to the lectures because it really helps. She offers so much extra credit to do well. Its very clear she really wants all her students to do well.
Dr. Acar was such a good teacher. Yes, her lectures can move fast but it is because of the difficulty of the course. She is very good at clearing up questions in office hours, had very helpful TA's, and her tests were easy because she shows how she wants you to solve the problems in the practice tests. You just need to put in some effort to do fine
Dr. Acar has very clear expectations for her class and I thought she was very respectable. There's also a lot of help available through office hours, help sessions, and recitation. Put in the work and you'll be fine.
Don't let reviews scare you. Dr. Acar is a great professor and wants you to do well. If you are struggling in the class, she has office hours multiple times a week and is willing to stay after class. The notes are not the best(Their the same in all mac2311) but Dr. Acar provides review guides and other materials that will make things clearer.
Dr. Acar was a great professor and I learned a lot from her. The tests can be easy if you put in the work and complete the practice questions she makes. She has office hours multiple times a week if you ever need help with anything. Highly recommend. Would definitely take her again.
Incredible professor. This semester (fall 23) she completely changed the course to make it much easier. Instead of weekly quizzes is weekly labs with a group. If you finish your homework before your lab you get an extra point on the lab. She is a great teach and explains things very well as long as you pay attention. 10/10
Go to lectures and ask your TAs questions in the labs. Take good notes and repeat your homework questions until you master the material. She offers a lot of credit throughout the semester and extra points on quizzes and exams.
Dr. Acar was a very pleasant professor as long as you kept showing up to class and showed an active effort. The TAs and LAs did a great job alongside. So many extra help opportunities were offered, and some gave extra credit. Homework was straightforward and tests were (mostly) easier versions. Not sure why many reviews are so negative toward her.
Dr. Acar was a great professor of business calculus! She made a difficult class much more understanding and easier to follow. There are 3 exams (each 15%), but she offers extra credit that helps offset the labs and exams. Attendance is mandatory through in-class questions and is very helpful to follow since the lectures directly follow the hw.
New system for fall 2023 was great. You get what you give!
She's nice but nearly impossible to understand her lectures with no prior experience in calc. Only way to really understand and be prepared for the question types on the tests (which are different than what you see on homework and in class) is SKOOLERS. Tried using youtube and khan in the beginning but Skoolers is a must have for this class.
I would not recommend taking this class with this professor if you can take it with someone else. The only reason I passed was because I already took the class in high school. Her notes are confusing and hard to follow. Also she is not understanding when it comes to absences or tests.
Was a very thorough lecturer and would go over many examples, and all the example's steps. The homework was short but effective, and the practice tests before each exam had no limit to how many times you could take it, allowing for as much practice as you needed. Had no prior experience in calculus and was able to understand it just fine as we went
Professor Acar is very professional and gives great lectures. She really cares about student success and gives out many opportunities for students to give the highest grade possible. There are three tests, one including the final, so the tests are weighted highly. Great professor overall!
Tests are difficult, and I found it necessary to take several practice tests to get a good grade. However, she gives a lot of extra credit. The lectures are decent but not amazing. If you're good at math you'll do well in the class. If you've typically struggled with math, you'll probably struggle in this class too.
Dr. Acar does a good job of showing each step of the problems in lecture and is good at answering student questions. She cares about her students' success and is accessible outside of class. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities in this class and available resources. The revised version of this class, Fall 2023 version, is well done.
Material is inherently difficult and it is easy to get lost during lectures. Professor Acar does move fast at times, but the supplemental videos posted to canvas are very helpful. Overall, she was very generous with extra credit, and the exams were very similar to the practice tests. There is homework for every lesson but usually is only 10qs.
Good teacher just a hard class
Her way of lecturing is my favorite--projecting her handwritten examples onto the board. As long as you pay attention to the lectures and don't procrastinate studying for the exams, the class isn't too difficult. A lot of extra credit opportunities, too.
Sent her my late grandfather's obituary and said I wouldn't make it to class because I was attending his funeral in South FL. She did not excuse this absence. Generally snarky and rude. Relatively easy class but the end gets more difficult so be careful; I had an A with minimal effort until the last couple of weeks.
This class is very easy if you have already taken a calc course prior if not you may struggle. This class is fairly easy if you do all the homework and go to the lectures. Use the office hours of the TA.
I was surprised at the amount of negative reviews Prof. Acar received. Although calculus is tough, this class offers a huge amount of extra credit, multiple dropped scores and very useful notes. Acar did a good job of explaining the material, as well as directing students to help resources. This course is very doable, manageable and well set up.
Just know the exams are nothing like the practice and you have to submit the whole thing just to see what you got wrong, other than that you have to be switching in between homeworks for the step by step help, other teachers have it set up better
The homework is short, and you only have two assignments per week. The notes are exactly like the homework and test questions. There are once weekly labs with quizzes, but you get to work in a group and the LAs help. You can get extra credit each lab, which adds like 10% to your grade. She changed an A to be a 90 instead of 93. Not bad at all.
Dr. Acar turned out to be caring, professional, and explained concepts very well during her lectures. You will need to go to class and spend time and effort doing the class, but she made business calculus a breeze. She was a lot better than the other professor who came in after she went on maternity leave. You'll learn a lot from her. She's good!
Took the course fall 22 before apparently the weekly quiz labs we would cry over became group work, that would have helped. Definitely a hard course, Dr. Acar is knowledgable and does her best, business majors just aren't meant to take calculus.
Dr. Acar is a very no-nonsense teacher, but her quizzes were take-home and her test prep was very helpful. Her office hours were super helpful as well. Her tests were graded very harshly and I had points taken off for very small things, so be aware of that.
Professor Acar makes business calc surprisingly manageable. Engage with her teaching system, use the free textbook, and take advantage of the ample extra credit. Unstuck AI is a great study tool to supplement the class materials.
She is definitely a good teacher. Dr. Acar's tests and her tests are the same( If someone says that they do not understand what she is teaching/ the test provided are not similar to the lectures and labs, they definitely do not attend her class at all).
Dr. Acar is not a bad teacher, but she is ALWAYS late to her 9:45 class. We have been left waiting for 30 minutes, and she will get behind on lessons because she also moves pretty slowly throughout them. You either understand her teaching style or you don't. She overcomplicates some lessons that you could honestly teach yourself.
I felt helpless in this class. The practice exams didn't prepare me for the tests, which were always different from what I was told to expect and hard to finish on time. Her feedback wasn't helpful since office hours felt rushed, and she refuses to curve despite class averages around 75 or lower. Pearson is also a terrible platform for math exams.
the class isn't bad but you have to pay attention if you don't its gonna take a long time to figure it out.
I didnt take calculus in highschool with the hardest math class I took being pre-calc and I still got an A in this class. If you genuinly go to lectures, homeworks, and take the practice tests you will be fine. She's an awesome teachers whos nice and teaches you how to do the math well. Everyone hating on her is just lazy and didnt put in the work.
Don't take her class. I had her at 9:45 and she would show up 30 minutes late every class. She would then talk/yell at us for 15 minutes after that leaving us with only 30 minutes of lecture time. Being behind schedule, she would skip material that was on the tests. TA's said she sucks and we'd be better learning from YouTube. She needs to be fired
I go to every class and I study for weeks yet I'm still getting a C! TAs have been saying they know she sucks. She said she'd do a final exam review online yet has made no effort to do so. If you're bad at math or actually need higher than a C, do anything to get a different professor. Acar sucks and anyone who tells you otherwise is just glazing
If you hate your life this class is a perfect fit. Want to cry yourself to sleep every night? Take business calc with Acar!
1.Spends to long on individual parts of problems (We can't cover everything in class) 2.She's come in 20 minutes late to class every day, and has been doing so for the past 2 1/2 months. 3.She asks questions that don't help and says the same thing over and over again 5 times. It is not great because she's usually going on about a -/+ sign.
I performed well because I took calc in high school so a lot of content was familiar and I was able to do really well on first couple test and slack off for rest. I can understand the complaints, especially if you are learning the content for first time. The Homework are pretty short on pearson and the practice test are pretty similar to the test.
Meh. You're probably gonna have to teach yourself everything but using her notes while doing the homework and practice tests helped me a lot once I actually started using them. Shows up 20+ mins late everytime and skips content. Also told me being in the hospital wasn't an excuse to miss my exam…manageable class but take a dif professor if you can.
Be prepared to teach yourself the content using the homework assignments. She spends 30 min in the beginning of class talking about nonsense and then finally starts with teaching. Difficult class but manageable with lots of studying and doing the practice tests.
All the reviews that are bad are probably from the class before last year, she changed it, and its so much easier now. Two homework due on Sundays with only 7-9 questions, 3 tests that are exactly like the practice test, just spam those to study, and the final is only worth 15%. Also gives a lot of extra credit, was late to class a lot and TAs suck
overall good job teaching, slow down a little bit tho. I apprieciate Dr.Acar and all the effort she puts in for her students, she works very hard. And is helpful at office hours and honestly just a chill person to talk to. Reasonable homework, HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching online lecture videos before class if you're a slow learner.
Dr. Acar is a great professor who cares a lot about her students. Sometimes she does get carried away and can go on 10-minute long tangents. Homeworks are bearable, usually around 7–9 questions and easy to complete using lecture notes. There are three exams and one final, and they closely follow the practice tests. She also gives extra credit!!
overall a good professor however i usually dazed off in class and didn't pay attention much. missed nearly a month of classes and just taught myself the lessons and it was pretty doable. as long as you do the homework and practice tests to study you'll get an A.
