Worst professor ever... follow directions exactly or he'll screw you.

This guy thinks an awful lot of himself. You'll like his class if you happen to share all of his thoughts exactly or happen to have none of your own.

Very hard to follow, get a since that he's **** toward caucasions, and gets an attitude, i'm not a fan

He is very biased and doesn't make you feel wanted in the class. He makes you feel like you don't want to ask any questions, because he will make you feel like you're stupid. His lectures are very unstructured.

He is a horrible teacher and a very angry man who should apply his own psycho babble to his own life before preaching it to others.

He's the worst teacher ever! He makes you feel stupid and he's rude. He thinks he is right about everything, and yet he claims to want our opinions. All I can say is don't take him. There is no better way to put it!!

the worst teacher seriuosly i ever had...i mean for real he is very bias and says he is openned minded....he is a liar...i would take is class again for again...a waste of time..and not clear on what he wants in his asignments

i worked my butt off for this course, and still got a bad grade.. like when i did a paper and got a 0?!

be prepared to get zeros on your papers even if you did follow the instructions. he's a no mercy professor so you get no re-writes or points for effort and just turning in the paper.

Learned tons of interesting things but he is so unclear with his expectations. Gives people zeros on take home exams when they did all the work. Pretty unfair guy. Don't take this class unless you can't get into anything else...

I'll start off with sayin i got an A, only bc I bs'd all my papers,his teaching style can be defined as ranging from a modern "no grading system" to a dictatorship that reminded me of my elementary years with nuns. i don't recommend anyone take ANY of his classes until he learns how to be consistent. don't bother asking questions in class.

Cool guy, lots of interesting things to say, but can't teach worth a darn. He's also a Reverand, and a critical sociologist...contradictory in the highest sense. Religion does more harm than good, especially from the critical perspective. Don't take this guy, but he should be outta there anyway.

Ok lecture. Intimidating and annoying. Be ready for more spam from him than you ever thought was possible from any human being alive. Unfortunately, one of them will be about class. So you have to sift through spam to find the important email. He's so into causes that if you made up a cause he'd spam the whole class about your "cause".

Imani is a joke. No one is ever sure of what he expects for papers. He explains things in a roundabout way which reveals nothing. If you ask for clarification, he makes you feel like you are stupid. Only lectures for half the semester, the rest is presentations, which he fell asleep for once. Grades are totally up to his mood. Sends tons of emails.

Imani deserves to be fired NOW. He is the worst teacher I have ever had since pre-school. If you get him, switch out IMMEDIATELY!!! His teaching methods are useless, he only thinks that his ideas are worthwhile, no one else's, and he is completely disorganized and unsatisfactory. Why JMU hired him I do not know.

I was really interested in the subject matter so I took the class regardless of what I was told.. should have listened. He's elitist, non-responsive to questions, absolutely ambiguous about what he expects, and when you don't do it the way he wants, you get angry emails. He's great to listen to but as far as class goes, steer clear.

I can only repeat what everyone has said. I was EXTREMELY interested n this class n excited despite what I read here. I figured the subject would b sweet enough that I wouldn care about the teacher. Im tellin you now: DONT TAKE HIM. Pompous, elitist, totally unclear about what he wants, and spam emails u. dont avoid this subject, but AVOID IMANI!!!

The rules for tenure should be changed just for this man. Worst. Teacher. Ever. I'm obsessed with the subject I just hate him. I can't believe I got such a bad person who teaches such a great subject. Never ever take. Ever.

Don't take him. I am an A student and I ended up dropping his class because I could not take it, and I LOVE sociology. He has a huge head, does not answer questions, and is so unclear about the assignments. He won't learn your name, ever, and grades depend on his mood. Avoid.

Um. Let me just say, with 100% confidence - Imani's probably the worst teacher I will ever encounter here at JMU... or anywhere. He's the least helpful person when it comes to anything, COMPLETELY unclear about just about.. everything... you have no idea what your grade is EVER, spam emails you, and all he does is complain. Overall the lectures are interesting filled with facts about history you never learned...but when it comes to assignments its difficult unless you can read his mind...

This professor had a lot of opinions about many things. He did not have a fair grading scale and was completely useless. Do not take this class if you expect to understand assignments. Sure, he teaches useful stuff, but I've had much better professors that I learned a lot more from than this guy. Do not take this class. It's horrible.

Worst teacher at JMU. Unfair, Unclear paper requirements/unfair grading. Hateful man, unrealistic expectations. Told us to come see him three times for each paper and submit a draft. Unrealistic.

Some people just aren't meant to be teachers... Imani is one of them. He is ambiguous with assignments yet particular with what he wants and condescending and rude to students. He also tries to assert his political views in his lectures, which is frustrating, especially being a moderate; give me the facts as they are, without your commentary.

this guy is the biggest hypocrite in one hundred square miles around harrisonburg. not only does he claim to be a christian, hold on "minister of God", but he also is a wannabe hip hop rap star who is nowhere near a christian. but enough about the man, how about his teaching skills? Completely whack and/or nonexistent.

Dr. Imani is probably the worst professor I have ever come in contact with. He is completely contradictory and unclear. His grading system is a joke, and says he grades qualitatively even though he doesn't.He makes you feel like an idiot when you talk to him and is one of the rudest people I have ever met. I read all of the other ratings on here and thought that since I'm an A student that's done fine with other bad professors before, I'd be fine with Imani. I was WRONG. Should've listened...run far, far away from Imani. You can do anything and everything he asks of you and still fail. I've stuck it through, but my GPA is in serious jeopardy now.

DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS MAN. No written syllabus, useless book, no consistent teaching or grading methods. I'm an A student who enjoys challenging classes, but this wasn't just challenging- it was a semester-long guessing game. Stay far away if you want to keep your GPA intact.

The only grades in this class are on paper submissions. I once questioned my grade via email and he responded soon after by scolding me like a child in all capital letters and told me never to question his authority. If you want an easy sociology class, avoid this condescending egomaniac. Just because he's smart doesn't mean he can teach.

STAY AWAY! class grade depends on 4 papers, and it is absolutely impossible to write a paper that imani finds acceptable. after failing my first 2 papers, i spent 3 hours in his office talking, in depth, about my next paper topic. guess what i got on the paper? a zero. very very interesting class, but if you care about your gpa then STTAAAY AWAY

DO NOT TAKE IMANI. He is RUDE and hateful. While his lectures are interesting, the class is NOT worth the mean emails and condescending attitude he always carries with him. He does NOT explain his assignments and expects you to know exactly what he wants. He is AWFUL.
