I am not normally someone who looks at this cite for advice on professors. The subject matter is interesting BUT DON'T BOTHER TAKING THIS CLASS. Dr. Imani is rude and condescending. The class average for the first essay was a 59%. How he grades is a mystery. I've never been talked to or treated like a child in a college class before this one.

this guy is the biggest hypocrite in one hundred square miles around harrisonburg. not only does he claim to be a christian, hold on "minister of God", but he also is a wannabe hip hop rap star who is nowhere near a christian. but enough about the man, how about his teaching skills? Completely whack and/or nonexistent.

Dr. Imani is probably the worst professor I have ever come in contact with. He is completely contradictory and unclear. His grading system is a joke, and says he grades qualitatively even though he doesn't.He makes you feel like an idiot when you talk to him and is one of the rudest people I have ever met. The class was interesting, in spite of him

I read all of the other ratings on here and thought that since I'm an A student that's done fine with other bad professors before, I'd be fine with Imani. I was WRONG. Should've listened...run far, far away from Imani. You can do anything and everything he asks of you and still fail. I've stuck it through, but my GPA is in serious jeopardy now.

DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS MAN. No written syllabus, useless book, no consistent teaching or grading methods. I'm an A student who enjoys challenging classes, but this wasn't just challenging- it was a semester-long guessing game. Stay far away if you want to keep your GPA intact.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He is a rude, not approachable person. He makes you feel like a complete dumb butt. Class is sometimes interesting but very one sided. GO IN TO TALK TO HIM about your drafts. If you don't you'll probably get a bad grade. And write drafts! I would NEVER take a class with him again. Avoid him at all costs.

Awful professor. He is condescending, disrespectful and extremely egotistical. You are not free to have your own opinions otherwise you'll have problems. There is no syllabus, no written instruction for assignments, no criteria for grading and close to zero feedback. Why this man still has a job here is beyond me. AVOID PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS.

Not sure if I had the same Imani as everyone else last spring, but I thought he was great. Lots of work and he can be a jerk is you don't know your stuff, but the key thing with him is to not be an idiot. That simple, you got into JMU somehow, you can't be that dumb.

Imani gets a bad rep. I definitely think he is kind of a hot head, spam emails you when he is pissed, haha it's kind of funny actually. But I will say I LOVE his lectures. I learned so much in his class and he really opens up your mind. I'd suggest him, just do what he says, and go to his office hours! They really do help.

The only grades in this class are on paper submissions. I once questioned my grade via email and he responded soon after by scolding me like a child in all capital letters and told me never to question his authority. If you want an easy sociology class, avoid this condescending egomaniac. Just because he's smart doesn't mean he can teach.

He is a great professor and being his student was life changing personally and professionally. Of course it was hard work, its college. The book Yurugu is still a challenging read. It's called critical race theory for a reason folks and if ya don't like being critical or thinking forget university let alone, law or graduate school!

STAY AWAY! class grade depends on 4 papers, and it is absolutely impossible to write a paper that imani finds acceptable. after failing my first 2 papers, i spent 3 hours in his office talking, in depth, about my next paper topic. guess what i got on the paper? a zero. very very interesting class, but if you care about your gpa then STTAAAY AWAY

DO NOT TAKE IMANI. He is RUDE and hateful. While his lectures are interesting, the class is NOT worth the mean emails and condescending attitude he always carries with him. He does NOT explain his assignments and expects you to know exactly what he wants. He is AWFUL.

If you listen to him and go to his office hours you'll do fine. I failed his first paper but i managed to get an A for the class because I asked him for help. The only reason why everyone thought he was rude was because they wouldn't get out of their confort zones and ask for help when needed. It is a bit of work, 4 papers and exam, but do learn.

Well he tends to be very intimidating, he will send you very rude emails. In office hours he is not so bad however in class he tends to not get his point across clearly. Just a general warning if you do not have to take this class for your major spare yourself the headache. Grading scale is very unclear and it seems he tries to be deceptive.

He comes off as very intimidating and makes you feel inferior when you ask questions. He claims to not indoctrinate you, but he will. He emails long rants about whatever problem he has with his class. You come out of this class feeling worse than when you go in. Do not take unless you have a strong stand on your beliefs.

His instructions can be vague, they can change, material taught in class is not in the book, he is sometimes in a bad mood. This class is kind of like, you know, real life. If you have questions, look for the answer and then go ask Imani. Wondering why you got a 31 out of 55 on a paper? Did you do a draft? He will teach you a lot if you let him
