Nikki Givens is a wonderful teacher...she is tough, but you will learn so much from her...she is my favorite professor. =)
Unavailable for students. Office hours!? What's that? The final was 8 essay questions(!) with an 80 minute time limit! Be sure to mention minorities to get the good grade.

She never responded to email. Even though she asked for homework to be turned in electronically, she wouldn't verify reciept until after the deadline. Definitely not recommended. :(
Save yourself a headache, find another instructor
This is the most unprofesional teacher I have ever had. All of her correspondence (which was extremely limited, you felt like you were teaching yourself) was spelled wrong, punctuated wrong and unclear. I did get an A though.
I had professor Givens in fall 2003 for an 8 week internet course. I continued to have aol/blackboard problems the whole 8 weeks. Professor Givens was VERY helpful and understanding. I came out with a clear understanding of Am. Govt.
You will get more help from other students than this instructor. Not recommended.
Professor Givens did not communicate well for an internet class. When discussing concerns with her, she was very unhelpful.
wonderful? favorite? Are we talking about the same person? haha this lady sucks
Wonderful instructor though she is a bit tough. Stick with it and you will learn lots!
Very fun class. Challenging, interesting, would recommend to everyone. She is a great teacher. Not the same old boring lecture class, participation is a must.
I made a B but is wasnt without a struggle! She expects the class to teach themselves! If the class doenst answer all of her questions she expects, then class is over. Very full of herself and obsessed with government. Not helpfull and MEAN! RUN!!!!!!!!!!!
She is very difficult & demands students to learn it! It is true, alot of the material, students will have to teach themselves, but this is college. She will not deal with pity parties or accept excuses. If you want to learn - and show an interest - she'll help you.
All I can say is, Mrs. Givens is a hard teacher but she is fair and very helpful! For those who do the readings and attend class and participate, you'll do well in the class. Otherwise, you're toast. I recommend her to everyone - you'll learn alot.
I had heard that she was very hard, and she was. But I also found that she loved helping students, very funny, very professional, great dresser and serious about government. Participation a must! Must do the readings and some independently. I recommend her - you'll learn a lot.
I made an A but I really had to study. It was worth it. She does not grade on a curve and the extra credit assignments were fun! Enroll in it.
her tests are hard, but she allowed us to take them in groups and that was cool. as a group we did better than when we took them individually. you have to study alot and participation is the only way you'll survive in her class.
Teaching a MW evening 8 week course starting in January, if it makes. Says it's the same work covered in 3 weekend course. Easygoing about arrival time. Excused absences don't cost points. Good about special needs. Recommend to beginners and techies just needing course for degree.
Mrs. Givens is a great teacher. People think she's hard because she makes you think about what the government is really doing to the American people!!
I LOVED mrs. givens she is the greatest professor at TCC!!! Keep up the good work Mrs. Givens!
Great teacher. Highly motivated. MUST keep up with reading and study for tests and pop quizes. Highly motivated with real world experience. If you are serious about political science, I would definatelly recommend her.
She is an extremly hard teacher. 40% of all the tests are essay. On top of that, very little help is given before you take the class. When she does decide to have class, were only in there for 15 minutes tops. She idolizes Clinton and demoralizes Bush. I should of dropped when I had the chance.
Took her internet course, and do NOT recommend it! only had 2 tests, one over the first 6 chapters and the other over the last 7. The test questions didn't seem to have much to do w/ the chapters. I came away not knowing any more than when i started. brush up on civil rights, it's covered alot.
Yeah, she's hard, BUT she's very informative and entertaining. She knows her stuff! Despite the fact that she begs students to let her know if they need additional help or clarifications, many won't visit with her and instead they'll complain and spread the word to not take her. Bad advice take her

She is hard but knows her stuff. Kind of intimidating at first, but if you participate in class discussions, read the material, do the extra credit stuff, you'll do fine. Make sure you ask questions and go to class, it helps on the tests.
This lady is rude! She thinks she is better than everyone! You have 2 tests and they are both essay which wouldn't be bad if she actually taught from the book. Know her notes because if you don't you will FAIL. Also forget asking her any questions. Her answer to everything is "look in blackboard." Half of the stuff isn't under correct section.
OK_ i don't know what the previous student is talking about. Ms. Givens was very helpful in our internet class. Very accommodating and very clear. Info from the book and her notes were on our exams. She will tell you to check Blackboard - but yeah - this is college. she won't hold your hand in that class.
She was the worst teacher I have ever had in my life she was Extremely rude and unhelpful.Liked to talk about herself quite often, also likes to pick on students. Do Not Take This Teacher
I took Nikki while I was still in High School and did fine, she is a great teacher and knows her stuff and she was always availible for help, I still talk to her on a regular basis, she is tough and won't answer questions if she already told you where the answer is. I think she is one of the best prof. that TCC has.

I think that Prof Givens is a very good teacher. She difinatly knows what she is teaching and wants her students to be interested. Do not take this class if you want a blow off class. If you want to learn, you will love her.
By far the best professor I have ever had. Organized to a tee, knows the subject and the reading material like the back of her hand. She does not like slackers, do not take this class if you just want to pass and get out. You'll love her class and learn tons!!
take her class seriously, if your looking for a free ride this is not the class. She makes you work for the cookie.
Dont walk RUN!!Hardest class I have ever taken. She is very conservative and borring! Essays once a week. Do not take this teacher if you don't want to work hard.
She is very loud and not a very personable person. You will regret taking her for this class. I suggest not taking her for this course. The tests are hard and your notes won't help you. If you want to pass don't take her. If you do, read the book on your own.
This class is very hard. I would have you know that she is serious about everything she says!! EVERYTHING!! Be aware that this class is very difficult, but I would recommend it if you are ready to learn, plus she makes some of if kind of fun. SHe is pretty kick-ass!!
Ms. Givens is hard but you will learn lots! she is very demanding on you learning a lot of the material on your own - but helpful when gives class time to discuss the subject matter. if you don't want to learn - don't take this class.
extremely hard. class participation is a must. very demanding professor. comical. entertaining. loud. knows her stuff - well! great dresser. loves high heel stillettos - everyday! informative. will put students on the spot to answer questions that will spark class discussions.
She is a good teacher. She will teach if you are ready to learn. Not an easy class, but not hard as well. She is fun!
Nikki Givens is an awesome teacher. if you are wanting to learn something take her classes, she knows what she is talking about and teaches it very well, but don't try to blow off her class you need to be in class to get all the info.
first of all, yes - she has essays every week, but it's for the 8 week internet students ONLY - not campus students/classes. she's hard - but you will learn LOTS! But don't get it twisted - if you want to fail - she can help you do that too! best instructor i've had @ tcc.
First of all I would like to say that Miss Givens is the most knowledgeable and interesting professor I have every taken. She is not as hard as everyone says, as long as your willing to do the work. If not don't take the class... She will 'weed' out students who are not serious about their education.
Givens is a genius. She is a wonderful instructor and KNOWS her stuff. yes she CAN be hard, but do the work and get the A.
I took this class online. The Exams were easy. I had problems working the quizzes. The quizzes never seemed to function right. The tests are timed but you can take as long as you want without being penalized. You have about 2 weeks an exam and quiz to do the tests. (16wk course) She may sound intimidating, but ask questions and and be surprised.
This was my first online course ever! It was for the most part a breeze, very polite and helpful and reply to emails at the time she says she will return them! Very clear instructions. I would not pass this class up.
Thanks to Professor Givens I am better prepared to objectively views governmental policy.
I heard about Givens and was worned to not take the class if i was looking for an easy A. She was all i heard. difficult, but fair, loud and intimidating, but comical, a great dresser who wore really high heels, and a great singer - AND somehow, she manages to incorporate those things in the class to make learning fun and interesting.
she can be very intimidating but i think that is a good thing. she is very helpful and not the snotty type who thinks that because she is a professor you are below her she is very nice. dont drop the class based on first impressions she might scare you!
Hard class. Hard lady. E-mailed her 9/28 and have yet to hear back from her. Not a instructor that I would recommend.
took online 4 week fast track class. teacher was not helpful dont reccommend taking a course from her!
She is so very disorganized. If something is wrong, or she gives mis-information, it's our problem. For about two months we only had class every other day, then we tested over 5 chapters with one day of notes. Half her test information does not come from the book. If you are just looking to pass you can with her, but prepare to be frustrated.
Very Intimidating. Tests are hard but you get PLENTY of opportunity for extra credit. I made D's on my first 2 tests and a B on the last and ended up with a B in the class.
This course was designed by the instructor to create critical thinking and I found it to be very challenging. Taking it in an 8-week format meant no-nonsense studying and reading. The essay questions on exams were thorough but exams were limited on overall content coverage of the subject matter. The syllabus and assignment outline could have bee
I hated this class! I took it online and it was the worst experience ever! Blackboard was messing up and she wouldn't believe me or return my calls! DON'T TAKE HER!!!
I took this in a 4wk Internet Session and I think that is why it seemed harder. If you remember to keep the discussion group papers and exams (all essay exams) scholary instead of opinionated, you should do o.k. If I experienced problems with blackboard, she was helpful. The notes she gives you are helpful, but you do need to read the text as well.
She is very hard. She has power trips. Lectures are interesting, tests are difficult -study everything she gives you to study or ever even mentions. Just remember to do what she tells you. I would not recommend taking her online or in any class shorter than 16 weeks. When you leave her class, if you worked hard, you will feel a great accomplishment
Do not take her. She did not reply to my emails, wouldn't meet with me or take my calls. Her tests are all essay, so once I got on her bad side, she made sure to give me the worst grade possible. She is a rude and awful person. Because of this class I quit attending TCC and transfered to a different school.
I enjoyed having this Professor even though we did not meet, the class was online. She has a personality that convey's across the pages of her syllabus. She sparked an intrest in the class for me from the beginning and Gov. is not a subject I'm interested in.I have learned from taking her class, and now do not find our government quite so boring.
if you're taking her, you really need to study your text and references she gives you. the tests are easy if you know your stuff. dont take internet course if you dont have any self drive.
Online Class - DO NOT TAKE!! You read 6 CH at a time and take a quiz and a test and group discussion board participation a must. No help-she will help but first you you would have to know what to ask?, no study guide, no notes. You must know what she is thinking!!!!
I took this as a 2nd 8 week internet class. Responsible for entire textbook for information. Discussion board questions were current event related. Tests were essay with the requirement that you rely not just on the book for information, but watch current event news programs as well. Lots of feedback.
Givens was a good teacher but she was tough and to the point. I learned a lot from her class because we went over so much in class. Be sure to take thorough notes and study or you won't make it. She's essentially a fun teacher and her blunt personality makes the class interesting.
major power trip. she enjoys scareing her students and says she trys to get people to drop. I had to go to her office and prove she graded tests incorectly and even her teachers key showed the wrong answer was correct. tried to give 0s for not writing gourp # on scantron. I had to turn her in. u must volunter at tulsa boys home all semester.
I worked hard and got and A but it was a horrible experience because she has no respect for people you have to be a total sheep to all off her powertrips or else the monster comes out and u see the really mean afwul person.
I took this as a 1st 8 weeks online course. I'm not sure what people were expecting, but it seems to me if you did the reading, you scored well. She made the discussion topics relate to current events, which I found helpful. The few times I had to ask questions, she responded quickly or I got through to her during the office hours she had posted
Mrs. Givens was rude to me and a few other students in my class, multiple times. She said very crude and inappropriate words to me and about me to the entire class. I was very offended. I am seriously thinking about reporting her to the Dean. She doesn't deverve to be a teacer.
This Professor cares more about current events than teaching others. I have e-mailed her multiple times and have yet to receive a reply. Her lack of interest in teaching is almost as apparent as her lack of professionalism. I strongly advise AGAINST taking her course!
Not an easy A, however Professor Givins is always available during office hours. She is very helpful. If you read all of the required material you will do fine. Call her if you have questions. She is there to help.
She was aweful. Hours on each paper just to get many points knocked off for silly things. Too much work for a course I don't even need.
I see alot of comments saying this teacher was on some sort of Powertrip. I would have said this teacher had an Ego issue but the powertrip term would suffice also. Try not to ask questions pertaining to the work, keep your head down and do your assignments and you should be ok for the most part.
This professor's office hours are odd hours and days. She will not work with you if you have a problem with blackboard, & leaving messages takes longer to get back with you. This professor is a waste of money. I learned nothing in this class. There were only 2 assignment, 2 quizes, and 2 exams. If you want a breeze through class this is it.
Professor Givens is awesome! She helps you in every way.. I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching style; I learned a lot. Do the work, make an effort, and broaden your knowledge, and you will do excellent! Highly recommended.
Ms. Givens is just all out cool! She takes a little history and some current events and blends it together to show you the functions of the government. Her essay topics will definitely help you see where you stand. She is in no way biased, and she makes the class fun. I'd take her class again if I had the extra time and money!! :)
Yep - Prof. Givens is ALL that I've heard! Difficult, challenges students to learn, extremely confidant and helpful. But I also experienced her as being professional, serious yet compassionate about the subject matter (past / present) and overall knowledgeable about the government. If you don't want to be pushed to think on your feet don't take her
I have zero interest in political science stuff, but I managed to make an A in the class. She works with students when there's a problem, that's a big plus. It definitely takes a bit of work, especially if you're not politically inclined, but you don't have to be a genius to make an A if you're willing to work for it! Very nice professor!
Awful
VERY DIFFICULT but you will learn alot about government and its process. If you email/call her, she will only contact you during her office hours. You can also meet with her after classes. Just know, if you want to learn - she's the one. If not - take someone else. She's NO NONSENSE ALL THE WAY!
She tries to scare you into thinking the class is hard but it really isn't as long as you show up! I really loved her class and looked forward to going everyday. If you like learning from the book don't take her. She is fun and her class is different!
Professor Givens is awesome! From the first day of class it was evident that she strives to make you think about the Government. The class is pretty much all essay assignments and the final is quite surprising as well. Bottom line, if you want to learn American Federal Government in an exciting and active fashion, then take Ms. Givens class!
Her teaching style is a lot different from most professors. At first, this class may seem terrifying. In the end, it really isn't at all. The skills you need to make the grade is the will to show up to class every single and and have decent essay writing skills. You will learn a lot from Professor Givens.
She is an awesome fun teacher that makes you think and learn, if you do what she asks you can make an A.
Mrs. Givens is a great teacher, I would highly recommend her for your Federal Government class. She makes what could be a very dull subject to learn very interesting. Her unique teaching style makes learning about the government fun. As long as you participate in class and take the required tests it will be an easy grade.
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Givens is a stickler for rules and directions on assignments. If you follow her instructions, which are all on syllabus, then you WILL do well in the class. Everything you need is on syllabus and is outlined on a deadlines calendar. WAY BETTER than some of my other courses.
Prof. Givens is amazing! I loved her class. She had lots of fun with the subjects she covered and inspires you to participate. You will need to take notes on anything she writes down and pay attention to movies and music. I think it will be hard to ever top Ms. Givens as a prof.
This Class was a great class if you are like me, and do not like Government this class will teach you to appreciate it! And I really learned somthing, Mrs. Givens made it worth my while I looked forward to this class!
Prof. Givens is very persnickety about how she wants things done. Problem is, her online instructions do not coincide with the rules. She needs to pay more attention to the details and ensure that she is consistent across the board. For someone to be that picky, I would expect all her I's to be dotted and her T's crossed...not the case.
Prof. Givens is HARD but I learned so much in her class! She makes the subject enjoyable and has common sense topics for discussion. Took online 2 quizzes, 2 exams & 2 group assignments. Be sure to make all deadlines by 11 am on Thursdays! Does not take any late work! She is a deadline QUEEN trust me! You will learn lots!
Annoying class. Required more work than any required class. If you have questions you better ask them in class because she WON'T email you back. Exams are impossible and she's surprised when everyone fails. For the final she requires you to write a song and sing it to a class, i'm pretty sure I signed up for government not music. Avoid this class
This class is challenging, however I learned a lot. The assignments and final seem daunting at first, but her lectures give you more than enough information to succeed. Oh, and no matter what participate in EVERY extra credit opportunity she extends. Overall I am happy I took this class. I looked forward to every class. Definitely recommend!
Took class on campus. Lectures are very interesting and current with current government issues. For the final you write a song that focuses on political, social or economic issues. It's no different from any English or Comp Class writing assignment b/c it's a creitical thinking assignment. Scary at first but turned out 2 be REALLY FUN!Takeher&learn!
She's very loud and funny. At first i really enjoyed her class, up until the last couple weeks. She got a very sour attitude towards the class, or just me, i'm not sure. I was the only final song that she grilled me with questions. She acted like she was angry when she was asking. It was really weird and I was glad to be out
she is all that i have read about, loud, funny and well informed! bottom line she knows her stuff. i payed to learn and i learned lots! i took her weekend class and looked forward to each class! take this class and you won't be sorry! very helpful. accommodating and flexible. we went to a movie for a class proj and was tested on it.how cool is that
I took Professor Givens online 16wk Governemnt class and I enjoyed her class alot. you don't have assignments every day but you need to read the book. Test are essay type and you will have group topics. Really enjoyd her class and would recommend her!!
This class was an awesome experience for me. Professor Givens was very interactive with the students and very approachable. This class made me want to learn more about our Government and pay more attention to what is going on in the world around me. I am thankful to have taken this class with this professor.
Had so much fun in her class in the beginning! Towards the end of the semester she got a really bad attitude and almost made it seem like we were wasting her time. I would advise to take her class because it was really easy as long as you came to class, but just be warned, she can be extremely moody towards the end of the semester.
Ms. Givens class was really interesting and fun! Learned lots! Best class I had that Fall 2013. If you show up unprepared for discussions and reviews, she WILL turn into a beast! The key is: ALWAYS discuss, show up, meet with her if you don't understand something. She's the best and glad I was able to get in her Tues and Thurs class!! Enroll early
I was in the class were she was upset but that was because she caught 4 students cheating on the examinations! she was disappointment because she goes out of her way to make sure students learn. she gives reviews, extra notes by powerpoints and conference days and times before exams all to make sure you are ready for the exam. take her and learn!
Professor Given's was amazing!! She wanted to make sure her students learned everything and trust me we did!! She is VERY loud, don't let it intimidate you, it is just her personality. I LOVED her class.
Just received my grades from my 1st 8 weeks online class. I learned a lot and she had great and interesting videos, topic questions and reasonable exams. Answered all my questions by emails and phone calls. Even made an appointment to see her about exam 1. Gave good tips! If you don't take her - you're missing out! She's the best!!
I'm currently in Givens' 16 week online course. Her first email was on everything NOT to do but instructions for the class are non-existent. And if you have questions or need help? Forget it. Mostly consists of Group Topics and a couple of exams from the book, 5-6 chapters at a time. I'm certainly not learning government from her.
I have Givens 16 week online class too and i'm learning alot. syllabus is intense, detailed and her expectations from her and us are clear. online classes don't have alot of interaction from teacher its alot of selfpace. if you can't do that don't take class or from her because there is alot of reading and they cover the exams and quizzes
She makes herself anything but available to students. First she requires you to only call or send e-mails during certain hours (which make no sense), and then she didn't even return either. I got sick two weeks into the course and she didn't give me any kind of assistance, even though I had accommodations to start with.
great class. group topics were really interesting. issues i really never thought about. she always returned my emails and ended each one with "does that help any?" i really appreciated that. hardest part about class was forgetting to log in due to new work hours. overall, the best online class i have had with tcc. she is the best!
Took online class because I live in Boxley, Arkansas for work. She opened the class a week before it started so we could know about the course. We signed a course contract so we would know expectations. Assignments were fun. Graded early. Returned emails. Not sure why some are upset they should have withdrew if it didn't work for them. Great class.
Do Not Choose This Professor! She will never admit she is wrong, will be condescending and her syllabi is extremely confusing. She is also no help, just "as per the syllabus.....".
Did this course online. She was awesome for a first time student! She was very clear with her assignments and graded papers fast! I would recommend her class for Freshman!
If you want an easy A while actually learning something, I would encourage you to take her online class. However, the instructions on the syllabus are ambigous. Contact her ahead of time because she isn't the best with returning inquiries. Requires a lot of discipline. Be prepared to ready 30 pages/day
I loved Mrs. Givens!!! She keeps it very real, has an energetic personality, and is very loud. In a group project, I had a difficult situation with my partners and she understood and was flexible in grading. There's many opportunities for extra credit.
Ms. Givens class was awesome. she was helpful and accommodating. syllabus is a beast but it has everything you need in it to get a full understanding of the course. if you have questions asking is better than assuming. I did like the online class but I wish I took her in class.
i am currently taking mrs. givens 16 week online fall course for me the class was easy weekly assignments all assignments were due by 11 am on thursdays, with my work schedule this class was amazing.
Givens is HILARIOUS! She is able to crack a joke and teach you everything you need to understand at the same time. I would love to have her as a professor again!
Took her 8 week online class. She gives 4 days to do all assignments. The best advice is to make sure you meet all deadlines! New book this year and she gave study guides. They were very helpful. Exams cover 6 chapters. She does not fold for anything (unless you have a documented note.) She emails back. She is hard, helpful and funny!
I have taken many online courses. After reading you Syllabus for American Federal Government I immediately dropped her class and took another professor. Her syllabus was ambiguous. Everything about her schedule her rules how everyone thinks she is not a good teacher. I couldn't understand what she wanted me to do next.
I took the 16-week online class. Her instructions for turning in assignments are SO confusing at first. However, if you can navigate through her unorganized Blackboard pages then this class is pretty simple. There are not many assignments (its about one every week and a half) and almost everything can be googled.
I LOVED prof. Givens! I took the 3 week accelerated online class. Total of 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 group topics. PLEASE do not be like classmates and wait until the last day to post your blog. It's a crappy thing to do when everyone else needs to wait for comments to write their analysis. Tests were tough, and your powerpoints are vital!
Mrs. Givens is hilarious and very funny, but a lot of whats on her tests isn't whats in the book so I'm never sure where to get my information from. Make sure that you are ready to participate in discussions if you take her. You get several group assignments. She gives some extra credit. Her study guides are what saved my grade.
Online 16wk. You have to take her class seriously. Do all the study guides they will give you a leg up on the tests. Her grading is fair, even lenient, even though she seems strict. Get ready to write, I think there were 7 essays - all analytical. Quizzes are super easy and only worth 10 pts. each. Group participation was low. Follow her rules!
I took Government online and I only had 2 test, 3 discussions (over videos), and 2 quizzes over the 16 week course. This was the easiest course I have taken and I highly suggest it if you plan on taking American Government online.
I took the class online and while at first I was very confused, she asked me to call her then and walked me through it. This was an awesome class because it truly made me think about the topics we were covering. They were very much related to the course material, but how it applies today or changed history. study guide is essential to passing.
Prof. Givens was wonderful. Definitely made you think. I enjoyed her class even though it was a short Intersession course. I felt I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend her as a professor and would love to take a class she offers again!
Learned more than just dates and people.
I took the intersession course; it was short, but I learned a lot. She tells you what she expects, so don't just skim over the outline. It was enlightening to see different perspectives on today's controversial topics. The discussions and feedback help to provide a deeper understanding on the topics. Tip:Giving and receiving comments is important.
Great teacher!
I took the intersession course. In short, it was a crash course government class. Not easy by any means. She sets very clear standards. Based off of a 200 point grading scale and you have 2 discussions, 2 tests, and 2 quizes. Don't skimp out on the work and you'll end up with an A.
Professor Givens is very helpful. She is confident in her students and willing to help you achieve your goal in her class. I personally never liked government. After taking her class I actually became interested in it and came out much more knowledgeable about issues going on than I had ever before. Take her class!
Professor Givens entire approach is fresh, fun, and unique. She is a very "contemporary" teacher, in both her style and format. She grades fairly and quickly! She is passionate about the political processes, and how/why they affect our everyday lives. Critical thinking is imperative, PowerPoint slides are key, and study guides are crucial.
Prof. Givens was friendly and on top of letting us know what was expected for the most part. The test essays were a bit scattered but doable. Overall the class isn't too bad so long as you pay very careful attention to what is being asked.
This was a great class. You will need to participate, but you will leave this class more knowledgeable to what is happening around you. I really recommend her!!
She's a great prof and very understanding.
First things first: you have to learn how to navigate her blackboard to pass online. It was a good class, but you definitely need to make sure to check out the power points under "Class Documents" before each quiz and definitely COMPLETELY do each study guide with the book/class documents section, your test grades will thank you.
Professor Givens is a very good teacher. If you put in the effort, you are going to learn about government. Writing and reading come into play with each of the exams. You will perform much better in the class if you read your textbook than not. You are expected to show up to every class on-time. I am happy I took this class. Just put in the effort.
Most disorganized professor I've had among dozens. She seems pretty nice but is horrible at communicating what she wants or expects. She's often incorrect in her assessments as well and seems to not use rubrics or any way of evaluation. For example, a written question asked for 14 things to be in an essay on a test. One missing? Half off!
For an online class it's to be expected that it's more challenging than an on campus, traditional class. Prof. Givens is very thorough in her expectations, &in her feedback. Also, it was my first online class ever, and she was very quick to respond to my questions. Her humor is a total PLUS! I really enjoyed this class, and the relevance she chose.
I was actually shocked how easy she made it. Hint* Hint* Check out her power points when studying for her exams. Honestly, if you didn't do too hot in this class it's nothing to do with Prof. Givens and everything to do with lack of assertiveness.
I absolutely loved her. I did a section change into her class Spring 17 and i dont regret my decisions at all!!! A few group projects, main thing that stumps you in this class is the test so study study study for them and you should pass with flying colors. She is hilarious, very blunt, gives great feedback, willing to help!!! Thank you Nikki!!!!!!
This class makes you think outside the box, but it really fun and engaging.
Amazing teacher i would take her over and over again if i could!
As long as you read/research the info, you're all set! Make sure you turn your work in ON TIME as you will get a zero if not. She's a wonderful teacher and available for any help possibly needed. Not a tough grader, but expects you to have your facts straight. A lot of it is opinion based, also. This is an easy class & Prof. Givens made it simpler!
I loved this class! Be prepared to read and participate. There are 3 written essays with group interaction, 2 quizzes, and 3 exams which a study guide is provided to you. The test contains questions from the study guide 99% of the time so you know what you are expecting. Turn your work in on time. She will not accept tardy work. No excuses!!
I thought Professor Givens was a really good online teacher. Her group topics are really interesting. She was very good with her feedback when you had a question.
Her class was pretty easy for me. You have plenty of time to do assignments and she grades quickly with feedback. Overall I really enjoyed this class.
She is so sweet. She is a pretty laid back professor, but you have to actually put forth effort. I opened my book once. Just do her study guides and you're golden.
Prof. Givens taught a class that I abhor. I've never cared for any Government or History classes, but she made the class fun and enjoyable. 10/10 would take this class again.
Awesome professor! Classes are stimulating, engaging, and fun!
DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU HAVE TOO! Her blackboard is very unorganized She has you do a lot of group topics & with that you have to do your own individual paper with it. You read 6 chapters, then struggle on the study guide (she doesn't aid at all). You have to rely on other students if you miss one. Everything is due at 11 a.m. every Thursday.
Prof. Givens sets out what she wants you to know about her class on day one. Syllabus is intimidating but clear. Took her online class and she was very thorough. Group Topics were very interesting and of current matters and events. I live out of town and she was available for help. 6 chpt exams. Great feedback on exams & weekly announcements.
I just finished her Summer class at Southeast Professor Niki Givens was chill. Lecutures were good and she is really funny. Group work was fun. She gave us study guides for exams. Gave helpful feedback on each test. I would take her again.
She encourages all students to engage in critical thinking, to share their thoughts in a respectful, enthusiastic manner in a safe environment. Her classes are fun and well planned. She is clear about what she expects from students, her assignments and tests are over material she covers in class.
Her online class was disorganized and you had to dig around to find assignments and instructions. I think she might be a good in-person teacher, but it was a pain online.
I took Professor Givens 16 week online class and it was so disorganized that we rarely knew what to do. She also tended to push her own political opinions and penalize those who disagreed. I hated this class.
I took Given as an online class. She only checked her email two days a week and that was a major problem the week of finals when the final exam was on BB and kicked me out. I emailed her right away and she was 0 help, she gave me a 0 on the final, and NEVER REPLIED TO AN EMAIL. So i took the incident to the department and they made her reset it.
Took Givens online. 8 assignments. 2 weeks to turn work in. Has strict deadlines. Fun and interesting group assignments. Blackboard site has a lot of info. Grades early. Lots of feedback. No extra credit. 1 day on campus but will emails/call you back. Withdrew for personal stuff. Enrolling in her spring online class. Take her. You will learn.
Loved this class! She made it fun, and I ended up wishing I had taken the class on campus to see her in action. I was intimidateda tad by the class at first, but she really provides you all of the information you need in her study guides and power points. I would definitely take her again!
I took this class online. Do your work and you will pass this class. There are 3 group topics and you have TWO WEEKS to complete them. A lot of students would not complete them until 12 hours before they were due and then emailing everyone asking for the 5 mandatory comments needed to submit the topic. Other then that 2 quizzes and 3 tests.
She has a lot of material to cover but if you can stay on schedule with her youll do just fine! Things are due at a certain time. Theres not a lot to do just takes time when you do the work.
Syllabus is detailed and grading is unpredictable. Prof. has limited office hours and she was rude to me when I met with her about a bad essay grade, accused me of not putting enough effort into the course (I did) and had an unclear essay grading criteria though she said I was a great writer. Worst online class I've ever taken.
Had no idea what I was doing the entire time. She is a very tough grader and doesn't help out at all. She only responds to emails once a week and for taking an online class, you'd think the instructor would be available online.
She is a very scary woman, I'm not gonna lie, but she is an amazing professor. I really hate government, but she taught me more than I've ever learned before and in the best way possible. You really have to work in this class, if you aren't ready to put in the effort you shouldn't take this course with this professor.
I took her online Federal Government class on top of 4 other classes. her syllabus was very specific. Test were straight off the study guide and you could easily google the answers. Tests were timed, but if you finished the study guide before you could easily type in the answer. An easy A with effort actually put into the work.
I will only retake Professor Givens because I now understand how she grades but other than that, take her at your own risk. Exams are more like essay format but gives good feedback. I wish her office hours isn't just one day out of the week; she will grade and return emails in timely manner.
I hate government. She can be intimidating but is very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Took her online class. Syllabus is straight forward. Office hours 1 day/week. Essay exams over 6 chapters so if you don't like to read - don't take her class. Gives helpful and timely feedback on Bb and emails. Take her you won't be disappointed.
I honestly loved this class. It was not insanely difficult. I didnt like that she had office hours only limited to one day a week. I was doing fine up until the final when she deprived me of one single point because she didnt feel I deserved an A in her class. I wanted feedback but she ignored me and gave me a B for a final grade.
Not a bad professor, just not my style. Feedback on the first exam was not clear. We did get a study guide for it, but I was not prepared for the detailed information she wanted. Be thorough in your answers. Do not shortcut anything. Pay attention to deadlines because they are not all the same.
As long as you prepare for tests by finishing the study guide you are golden! She's great at giving feedback but make sure to follow ALL of her grading requirements. I really enjoyed her class.
If you have a choice I'd suggest against taking Prof. Givens. She is a perfectionist and will not hesitate giving you a low grade for minor mistakes, at the same time her emails/announcements are rife with grammatical errors :/ She is condescending in person/on phone about grades. Probably a good person but was awful to me. Beware.
Disclaimer: I dropped this class after reading the syllabus. Quote "I will make comments to you that you will find different, unfamiliar, and/or just plain rude... the comments are not made to offend or personally attack you. It's just my style! So get over it! :) (See, I've started already) ha ha ha ha" theres much more but Im out of space to type
Her online class doesn't offer any satisfactory lessons that go into the textbook. It's very much a self-directed class. I personally didn't use the textbook and managed to do fine. You will need to be able to do your own research and critical thinking. She isn't very accessible. Do the work, follow feedback and you'll get a good grade.
Took Prof. Givens online. I was nervous at first becasue her Blackboard site has a lot of information and is detailed but its easy to navigate and find documents and assignments. Beware deadlines at 11 in morning on Thursdays so if you work get it done early. Class is not hard if you do the work. Givens has office hours one day a week. Loved class
Steps to pass this online class - do work early, turn em in on time, use the power points, book not necessary wast of $, use her study guides, check bb and emails everyday and watch news . She grades work fast, answers emails 1 day a week, she's no nonsense and straight to the point, interesting group topics and extra credit. Follow and pass.
Professor Givens is very up front with everyone about her expectations in her class. There aren't many assignments, but you have to make sure you do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, or you get a zero. For example: she'll post a study guide Friday morning and Sunday night, it's gone.
Just finished her class. Got a B+. There's alot of readings with 6 chapter tests. There is a study guide. No make up work. Don't be in a hurray to get response to emails after wednesdays she replies one day a week. Great class. Group assignments are fun and interesting government topics. You will enjoy class and Givens humor.
FANTASTIC! Respects your opinion and doesn't push hers on you. Participation gets you a good grade. She educates you and makes you think rather than regurgitate what she tells you. Not a lot of homework, but expects you to know the basics. Fantastic instructor!!
Dr. Givens class was the best class I've taken in a long time. She can be intimdating at first. She really knows her stuff, she challenges students to learn and you have to do your part to succeed in her class! Group topics are really fun and she gives great feedback on assignments. Has 1 office hour/week and replies. Take her class!!!!
A great professor but be ready to write! Group topics require writing and colleague interaction. Tests are difficult but passable.
Done. Got a B. Givens is really a great professor and so informative about gov. I'm a concurrent student and volunteer at CTCA. Saw her there for treatment and I'm amazed how she's still able to teach and juggle work and private life with ease and professionalism. Emails back with great feedback. No regrets in taking her class! Best ever!
The group assignments weren't hard, but the tests on the other hand were. Half the class was based on the tests and the tests were essay based. There was just no way I knew how to please her. I am a solid "A" "B" student and I made 50% on the tests, which was only 3 tests. Other than that I really do like her as a person just not a teacher.
she is ALL that I read BUT i did pass. lots of reading on your own and be sure to get all of her power points and study guies to help if not you are screwed. overall the group work was really fun and interesting topics. exams are essay be ready to write a lot. Givens is cool if you take the class serious if not you are screwed!
Wonderful course. I learned tons in this online class & would for sure take it again. For the exams, STUDY GUIDES ARE A MUST! The exams are essay format and exactly from the study guide, so have it completed. She is great at giving feedback and clear instructions. The group topics are fun with a variety of topics. I ended with an A in the class.
When I first joined Professor Givens class I was super intimidated and wanted to drop. However, I'm so happy I didn't! She gives awesome lectures with also being graded on group projects, 3 exams, and essay group topics. I opened the textbook maybe once and received an easy A! Not to mention she's absolutely hilarious.
It's a challenging course but overall it's good. She grades quickly and gives lots of feedback on the homework/ tests. I really enjoyed her!
Format of the class is confusing. Info she was sending in the syllabus did not match what she wanted in the assignments. Would routinely receive email to the group saying that the information in the syllabus was not to be followed for the assignment. Tough on grading and if others responded on group projects. I wish I would have reviewed first.
Please dont take this professor if you care about maintaining a good GPA
She gives study guides to help with exams. Not hard to follow. Class pretty simple if you follow the Deadlines on Bb. Learned a lot of current government stuff that was interesting. Earned a B without really trying. Enjoyable 16 weeks.
Counted off if other students did not reply to your discussion post, which is absolutely ridiculous. When I went to her office hours to ask for help she was rude and just said that I needed to do better without offering any real help. Her grading criteria is not clear at all, she counts off points for seemingly no reason.
Givens is not on the campus during the Summer so you'll have to make sure if you have questions, email her or set an appoitnment. I met with her a couple of times in the library at southeast to make sure I understood my Study Guide and she was really helpful and I passed the exam with a 100. Make sure you communicate with her to do well. Class+
I loved this class, Mrs. givens actually does give you good feed back on your discussion post. Please MAKE SURE you get 5 classmates to respond back to your original post or yes you will get points taken off. So make sure you are responsible and talk to your class mates its not up to the teacher ! Good Luck. stay up to date on current events !
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. One reason is that she gives no feedback on tests at all. She does not respond to emails. She is sometimes shrewd. The only thing I liked about her class was the discussion assignments. Her tests are not practical
I do not recommend this class. She missed 8 classes the first half of the semester. Her tests were incredibly difficult and her feedback is not helpful at all. She is shrewd and intimidating along with being confusing and misinformed.
not responsive, only answers emails once a week, never at office hours, very few assignments
Would not recommend. Her quizzes and exams are way harder than they need to be. And she isn't very helpful when asking for tips or advice.
Professor Givens, was great!, at time responses through emails for any questions needed to ask her; also allowing much grace time periods needed to submit all work! Wonderful online course to take anywhere in the World! I totally have much more knowledge about our American History, through this History American Government Online Course 1113. Thanks
Loved this class! Come to class, take notes, and study on your off time and youll be great. if you have a question, make SURE you email her. She is very detailed with her responses and can really help you!
Impossible to get ahold of. Doesnt reply back to emails for 2-4 days if she replys back at all! Most horrible professor Ive ever had. Couldnt pay me to take her class again.
This isnt going to be an easy class, but its definitely non-conventional with a lot of discussion rather than assignments.
This class was a little frustrating. Some grades depend on if your peers respond to your papers. If you dont have enough peers that respond you lose points. Tests are based on study guides. Be sure to prepare by answering all study guide questions and you should do fine.
Bottom line Givens is no nonsense! Simply put, if you are not prepared to read and write don't take her class! Online there are 3 exams, 2 quizzes 3 group assignments, a course orientation quiz and extra credit. The videos she provides are controversial and informative. Loved her class! PERIODT!
Don't take this class if you're a concurrent student, she doesn't respect the fact that you have other classes at all and she only answers her emails once a week and office hours are during school. Tests are Thursdays from 6am to 11am and she doesn't allow you to make it up if you can't take it at that time.
Don't take gov't with this professor. Her online course is extremely confusing. You have to read between the lines to know what she's saying. We had a group discussion project that if we didn't get replies to our posts from fellow students, points were deducted! You shouldn't have to suffer the consequences when your classmates procrastinate!
This is a 1113 and this instructor treats it like a capstone course for a political science major. The essays revolve around changing the bill of rights to be more inclusive; her personal agenda is far more important than teaching intro to government... She does not use college email or blackboard and is impossible to reach in a timely manner.
By far this was not my favorite history class, her tests were impractical at best and she seemed slightly rude and it was either "her way or the highway" she was very knowledgable however most of her lesson plans were based on one sole subject instead of involving multiple areas of federal government. Personally, she isn't the best.
I do not recommend taking this class online. I had to teach my self everything, it wasnt clear what would be on the tests or quizzes. The group topics were pretty easy but that was the only thing keeping my grade above passing.
I heard about this lady and found it to all be true. She's no joke but if you do your work and turn in on time, you'll do great. Deadlines are on Thursdays at 11 am. I spoke to a couple of concurrent students and they were not ready for Givens. She's not going to cater to you like high school teachers. Got a B but could've had an A but I work.
I took this course during the summer online. Professor Givens inspires her students to be critical thinkers and step outside of their comfort zone. Not only are you learning about government she is pushing you to learn about the current environment around you and inspires you to be civic-minded. I enjoyed her class and highly recommend it.
Fibens is fair and grades on time. Get the study guides they help for exams. Email your questions and she replies during office hours. Loved group work. Current events are very interesting. Make sure you turn work in on time.
Needed help since day 1 of class and email'd her like well over 10 times, no replies. Online class, couldnt find her assignments in blackboard. She wouldn't help, reply to emails, rude. Honestly just not a good time.
Could not find assignments. She would not help me find assignments then blamed it on me for agreeing to the course contract. So since I agreed to the contract it is my fault for her not knowing how blackboard works.
Her class is very unorganized. Doesn't reply to any emails. She is rude and will blame everything on the students. If students don't respond on discussion board it is your fault and points will be deduced. The due dates are confusing it will one thing on the syllabus and other on the deadline schedule. Choose someone else if possible.
I had the flu for two weeks and bombed the first test, she made an appointment with me, i explained i had the flu, she said I would not make an A in her class. She said I was not prepared for her class because I was a concurrent student and clearly I didn't know what hard work looked like because I let the flu get in my way. HS senior, made an A.
She wasnt very good at communicating, and I dont recommend this class. I emailed my classmates asking if they had any idea what was going with the class, and most of their responses were I dont know either or I guess we do this. The class was ok, but she didnt keep her students updated on assignments.
This class is easy if you're willing to put in the work. There are not that many assignments so make sure you do the best you can on every one of them. Study guides provided for every test but they can be a bit confusing. Make sure to read the chapters and you'll get a good grade. It's an easy class if you put in the work.
Pretty good teacher. Her Blackboard is a bit hard to navigate and get the info you need. She does like to write essays for reminders. But overall a very nice and understanding teacher. I wasnt doing well in her class at first and she made an effort for me to have a meeting with her to discuss what we could do to bring my grade up.
I never got to see her face but I'm guessing she was a nice person. She gave good feedback on what to do for each assignment. I actually bought the book and used it maybe 3 times and instead used the power points for my main source of information. Honestly seemed like an easy online course and you get to comment and read other students essays/views
I do not recommend taking her class. There are weeks on end alost where nothing is scheduled and then the one actual assignment she does have you do is crammed into one week. Completely unorganized, her black board is all over the place with posts from years ago. and she deducts YOU points for others not replying to your work.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. She is so disorganized that it is very difficult to find or do anything. I took her for government, but her class had nothing to do with government. It was all my opinion on the assignments. I didn't learn anything from her class and I think she is a horrible professor. Do not take her class.
Took Givens for an online live class. She's clear with lecture information. Class is pretty organized. Her bb has alot of stuff so you will need to read it to make sure you got it all . Other than that, she's pretty chilled and yoiu'll learn a lot about the govenment.
I really like this professor. The work load is fair and reasonable. The timeline you have to do the work is realistic. All assignments are spaced out nicely too. You must do the work on time, there are no make-up assignments or extra credit. Overall, a good professor and wants to/will help you succeed.
The best part of this course is the focus on discussion. You get material to reflect on and then we get to share our ideas in blogs. There's also really helpful study guides for exams that are simple and to the point. If you're open to the topics explored and participate, you'll receive good feedback!
IDEK what to say about Prof. Givens. I really appreciate her no nonsense attitude, but that's about it. She gave powerpoint notes containing virtually no information, and the study guides didn't prepare me for any of the exams. It seems like she tries so hard to come across as an "intellectual" and her message gets lost in the garbled verbiage.
Online, she's hard to warm up to. She uses big words excessively and improperly, as if she just learned what a thesaurus is. I liked how she encouraged conversations about various controversies and often asked about our political opinions on tests, but she never provided good resources/lectures - you have to learn on your own. She does not teach.
She makes the class harder than it should be. My 1st red flag was that there was only 300 pts total. YOU lose points if ppl dont comment on your stuff. Unclear. Uses big words for no reason. Her blackboard is a mess. Only available 7 hours out of the week for emails. I am a straight A student & I dont think I couldve gotten an A
DO NOT TAKE THIS, PROFESSOR!!! The worst experience & worst teacher I have come across in my lifetime. She is an absolutely evil human being & a complete liar. She gave me an undeserved 0 because of a technical error in BB on my final exam. Which caused my A in the course to drop to a C, and she single-handedly took my 4.0GPA down to a 3.5GPA.
Professor Givens had pros and cons. Dont go into this course expecting anything fun, or expecting to build any kind of relationship with this Professor. Shes super strict, and grades quite unfairly, in my opinion. You lose points when others dont comment on your work, etc. Id recommend this class in general, but beware of how hard it truly is.
After reading the syllabus, it was straightforward! You literally only have 3 group topics(class participation), 2 quizzes, and 3 exams. She provides some content to view before writing the topic, but it is all current events. Topics are meant to push you out of your comfort zone! PP + study guidesgood tests. Textbook not required, but I used it.
Professor Givens was not bad per-say, but her BlackBoard is extremely confusing and hard to navigate. You are marked down on group topics when others do not comment on your work. I was lucky enough to have classmates that had made a GroupMe and communicated there. Not many assignments, so you have to do well on all of them to end with a good grade.
Professor Givens prioritizes writing assignments that make students think, evaluate information, and dialogue with diverse worldviews. If you provide thoughtful answers to questions then you will love the class and make good grades. Professor Givens is very caring and understanding. Her passion for learning and teaching is an inspiration.
You are expected to know a ton of information for each test, but never told exactly which chapters are covered. YOU are penalized for the laziness of your class mates if YOU don't get enough replies from THEM. You will spend most of your time reading and replying to your class mates for a grade. I DID get a bad grade, but it's 100% my fault.
The class overall does not require lots of labor, in fact, there's only about 8 assignments the entire semester, however, they're completely arbitrary. Messy blackboard, very confusing questions, etc. If you're looking to just knock out a pre-req, this is the class to do it in. Just beware, it comes with a price. You must put up with her nonsense.
Ridiculous class. Had a high A the entire year, but because there are so few assignments, I did bad on the final test and dropped down to a mid B. Didn't open the textbook once nor did I learn a single thing about American Federal Government. Her questions on the tests and her prompts for her blogs were so confusing and unclear.
While a textbook was mentioned it was rarely used. Participation from classmates is mandatory and can influence your grade. There are very few assignments in this class and no extra credit given. The exam questions are confusing and difficult to understand.
This woman shouldn't teach middle school, much less college. No use of the textbook, she conflates her vocabulary with words that are mis-used or mis-spelled and on her tests often asks questions that confuse several different details about various historical events and documents. Most of my class failed the final because she confused two document
Professor Givens class was super easy! She grades very quickly and I love that I am not anxiously waiting to see what I got on my assignments. Her class consists of 8 assignments throughout the whole course. I appreciated that because I had other classes with a ton of homework. I feel like she is not a hard grader. Passed with an A
The most amazing professor I have ever had! I will warn she can be a little on the tough side with class work & her tests are graded heavily and very hard. Do the work outside of the tests & you will be good. Be prepared to take notes.
She does not respond to anyone's emails. Her class is very disorganized and she grades unfair. I am withdrawing to choose a different professor.
She was very helpful, her feedback was very informative.
Nope. Dropped the class as fast as I could in the beginning. She'll take points off your grade if you can't get five of your classmates to respond to you. You're punished for something you have no control over. Ridiculous.
Pretension and worry instructions and less then understanding/sympathetic.
Extremely disorganized, her BB page is hard to navigate, the syllabus looks like it was written by a high school senior who took a law class. There are almost no assignments. Her PowerPoint notes for the exams are sometimes nonsensical. She comes off insecure like she is daring someone to challenge her intelligence.
This class wasn't what I expected but I was able to succeed. There was very little government and a lot of controversial topics and writing. If you don't write an argumentative essay well, this isn't the class for you. My only gripe was the paid extra credit opportunity.
She is hard if you do not pay attention to lecture. Tests are in essay format but EVERYTHING was covered in lectures. Make sure to take notes. She is funny, caring and especially likes discussion. I really enjoyed her class.
If you take notes from the PowerPoints and really think deeply about questions, you'll do well. The group topics have guidelines that you must follow, so as long as you follow instruction, you're good to go. Easy summer course, but enjoyable!
I withdrew second day in. She has an impossible black board to navigate. She was unclear in the syllabus when it came to grading criteria, It is much to complicated for an intro course done online. I did not understand the grading system overall. Why does she penalize the student who does the work even if people don't respond to the group posts??
She was not willing to change appointment schedule if you work. I had to schedule an appointment with her while I was at work and had to use a work computer that did not have camera or able to talk to her. She didn't care. There was no grading criteria. There was no organization.
The blackboard for her class was the most confusing thing ever. I wouldn't even know there was an essay that use due if it hasn't was for a classmate. You would have to click 4 folders just to find the topic. If you miss one of the essays you're screwed. And the extra credit is yoga???? That you have to pay for???
So easy! and I learned. She makes you really think about some things. This class is an easy A. You have about 4 assignments total. 2 exams and 2 group topics. There is also a chance to get extra credit, you just have to do yoga!! I loved this class, easy A but I also learned a lot and got to see other students views on controversial topics.
Literally my favorite professor I've ever had. She talks very loud but it is in no way yelling like some of these comments say, She gives amazing lectures and makes sure everyone is engaged and the class is super easy to pass if you pay attention. Amazing woman!!!!! Love her!!!!
Essay 1: "Do you agree with the Woke Culture? Why/Why not? Is the Woke Culture truly a method to include diversification into the workplace and society or is it an opportunity to inject leftist ideology that criticizes conservatives for seeing systematic hierarchies of injustices where it doesn't exist and attempts to silence them?" Be fr.
Grading is inconsistent with inconsistent reasoning. Blackboard is difficult to navigate. Overall, there is not much to learn here. By living and working, you will already know these things that this class "teaches."
I genuinely learned nothing about the government in this class. The best part about this class though was that there were two months where there was just no work assigned. This means though that tests were almost your whole grade and the study guides for them are only available on the weekend and if you miss it, you're out of luck. Wasn't hard tho.
I really enjoyed taking this class this past semester. I was in the 16 week course, there was only 4 assignments throughout. Each discussion was worth 50 points and exams were 100 points. Final exam is NOT collective for semester. Study guides are great, really study those. I highly recommend her! No textbooks were purchased, FREE online textbook.
This class was very easy. She grades pretty fair. Her syllabus was very self explanatory. I recommend to read a chapter and take notes each week. Pay close attention to the due dates for assignments, spend the first day navigating the black board, you can reach out to classmates for help, and do all the assignments and follow the instructions.
The syllabus outlined what to expect throughout the semester, grading, etc. There aren't many assignments or tests which was great. Self-discipline is a must to be successful. You will need to be able to familiarize yourself with Blackboard and use time management to read chapters & PowerPoints. I enjoyed the class and Professor Givens!
This class can be challenging, but worth the effort. The professor has a specific teaching style - stay engaged, take good notes, and use study resources like unstuckstudy ai along with the textbook. With hard work, you can definitely succeed and learn a lot. Overall, a rewarding experience.
Nikki is probably one of easiest professors you can take for online classes, but you have to pay attention to the syllabus and due dates if you want a good grade due to her only having 3 assignments that are worth a good number of points. Study for the exams and pay attention to due dates and you should get a good grade.
This is probably the hardest class I've ever taken. It wasn't hard because of the classwork itself but because of professor Givens lack of communication. It was hard to navigate her blackboard and it was very hard to tell when assignments were due. There were only 4 assignments for the whole course so if you get a bad grade...well good luck.
She communicates poorly and is lazy with assignments. I haven't heard from her, nor have I had an assignment for a month and a half. It's not a challenging class, but her behavior is laughable. There are too many spelling/grammar errors in her assignments to count.
Professor Givens is a challenging professor, her communication style is unique and direct. Her syllabus can be intimidating but if you follow what she has detailed out you will be successful. She is true to her word, and challenges her students to critically think! Pay attention to the dates provided in her syllabus and you will have success.
The class it self was not hard I would say you have to pay close attention to deadlines because she is pretty tight about that. The class had 2 group discussions of 1000 words and 2 tests. She also gives 2 extra credit options. I would most defiantly take this class again if I could.
Loved everything about Professor Givens class! We had multiple opportunities for extra credit! Givens is very passionate about her work! The group assignments got me out of my comfort zone and was a lot of fun! Over all I would take the class again & again! Not to mention I actually learned a lot and applied what I learned to real life!
I was nervous going into Professor Givens online course because of some of the reviews on here, but I'd like to say that Professor Givens is awesome. She set clear instructions as to how to access everything and expects her students to keep track of the due dates. May be difficult if you can't keep your schedule, but fun and rewarding otherwise.
Three days for all assignments. Group topics make up a lot of grades but are 1000 words with impossible standards. You must have FIVE replies by others for a grade. Study guides are the only education you recieve and are shown for three days. The format of the schedule is illegible. I believe she wants students to fail. DO NOT take this professor.
Easy grader if you just show effort. You need to read the textbook, but more importantly than that you have to take notes during lecture and participate in the class discussions. Very engaging class, few assignments, and while she can be intimidating, shes very fair. She doesn't ask much of you, you just cant slack off.
Very few graded assignments- the finals are open internet-access. The PowerPoint notes aren't structured amazingly, but the information required for the exams is pretty clearly presented.
This professor's syllabus looks very intimidating at first. This course is very easy; the chapter readings are self-paced, but she is very strict on due dates. There were 5 assignments graded in total, but they were heavily weighted. Gives great feedback.
Amazing professor. My favorite thing about the class was how engaged she was able to get all of us to be with each other and the course work.
I had heard from other classmates that Professor Givens taught a difficult class. I assume that they were intimidated by Professor Givens' blackboard setup. I was hesitant and nearly dropped it but I went through with it. It was a fairly easy class. Assignments are straightforward and easy, it's not anything too crazy. I would recommend.
professor givens is nice and a easy grader. The class is not work heavy and the topics are easy discuss. The only thing i hated was the way she has the class set up. It almost seemed like she created her own online class. I didn't like that i had to wait for specific dates to start working on material. she is on a strict timeline.
Her 16 week online class room was very disorganized but as you keep navigating blackboard it gets a bit better. There's 2 large assignments (1000 word essay), 1 exam, and a final. But be sure to have your deadline schedule open at all times because she very strict on that, things are open for only a certain amount of time then gets locked.
Professor Givens expects respect and proper grammar, but often doesn't model it herself. Grading seems politically biased. Students are unfairly held responsible for peers' actions. A non-credit political survey is required, yet its results are used on exams. The structure feels inconsistent and unfair.
She is amazing!!! I thought I was failing her class, but she reassured me that I wasn't. She's so easy to talk to and please if you need help in her class just reach out. I didn't know she was chill like that but she is. Also her class is very easy and laid back! My favorite professor by far!!!
Did not know what I was getting into, but I did alright in the class. Very hard, confusing, and you only have a few assignments which are discussion boards that need to be 1000 words AND have 4-5 questions/prompts to answer. Givens is also politically biased which are reflected in her grading, and she expects exact answers to her odd questions.
Attendance isn't mandatory but prepare for her to take your absences personal. Her exams will suck the life out of you as she makes you write 4 essays with more that 15 part questions in 80 minutes. You get about 1 lecture per exam the rest is her random assignments that dont help. Read the textbook but be prepared for her to change the information
She was rude when I emailed for a question. Wasn't clear in her discussion directions, so I lost a few points. Claims that the essays are multiple choice and essay but mainly just essay. Easy class to pass though
I love Professor Givens! She was readily available to answer questions and gave clear instructions for each assignment and test. I would recommend her to anyone interested in taking American Federal Government online!
Professor Givens is decent. She grades fairly and unpolitically. There are very few assignments, so the workload isn't heavy. It's a relatively easy class to pass if you actually do the work fully and submit on time. Overall, it's straightforward if you're looking for something low-stress.
