Great teacher!! Learned a lot from her. My husband and I both took her 1010 class as well as 2010. She is awesome!

She does get off subject sometimes but doesn't penalize you for being off subject and being behind. Very willing to help you if you need help. English is not my subject at all and she helped me to understand it!

Nikki is awesome. She's quite strict about attendance and assignments being turned in on time, but she is also fair and very willing to work with you. If you read the book and take notes, do your assignments on time, and attend your classes, you'll do very well. There is not final, just a letter to the next semester. She's fun and interesting.

The class was preaty straight forward and easy. Four essays total, three you right about other essays in the book and the last is your own argumentitive paper. Do all the work and you will get an A

Nikki is a great teacher. There is a ton of work though. I took the summer semester and highly recommend not doing that. You only have 8 weeks to cover 16 weeks worth of material. However, Nikki was a very fair grader and very easy going teacher. You will take lots of notes and read a lot in the book. Very easy A!

She doesnt state after every class what is due next time but if you just print out her syllabus (which is one of the very first assignments in class), you'll do fine!

This class was really different from all of the other English classes that I've taken due to the fact that you make a blog for most of your assignments. It is an easy class if you do all of the assignments and show up to class every day. Nikki is a good teacher and is always ready to help. Didn't really like that it was a night class.

This class is good for an english class. Nikki is willing to work with you. She explains things in a relatable way and uses visuals. She can tend to ramble but is really nice! You have a lot of assignments but they are usually just a 150 word post about the assigned reading. Attendence is mandatory for this class- she has an attendance policy.

I LOVE the class, and how she organizes everything. I love that we don't use the book for the assignments; I feel I learn MORE without it. I DON'T like the grammar site, though, because it doesn't explain enough for my understanding, so I have to use another site to help me.

Nikki is a REALLY good teacher. I like that we don't need to have the textbook, and that we make a website for our final. She teaches in a unique way that has helped me understand concepts I've never understood before. Make sure you go to class though because she has an attendance policy, and make sure you do your assignments.

I have taken her before and loved it so much that I wanted to take her class again. It is very informitive, fun and useful. I have learned more in these to classes about english then the rest of my life. The only down side is its alot of busy work...but the good out ways the bad.

My favorite thing about this class is probably the homework load. It's very manageable. We discuss all our topics in class everyday to make sure we understand. She is very patient and easy to work with. It's been very pleasant being in Nikki's class. I would take her again.

Nikki is a great teacher and will bend over backwards to help you. There is a lot of reading and coursework, but it is easy as long as you follow her guidelines. If you keep up with due dates and do the work, you should get a good grade. BIG PLUS - No text book!

Nikki is a good teacher. Some of the assignments we did seemed unnecessary but some assignments helped a lot. She explains things thoroughly and uses great examples to make you understand better. Make sure you attend class or else you'll be lost!

Oh, Nikki is by far my favorite english teacher of all time! MY husband and I have had her class before and we absolutely loved it. She makes everything make sense and has all these cool ideas to help her students learn. There is a lot of work involved but nothing you can't handle. You have grammar and readings due almost every day. She is very helpful and easy to get along with. If you have any questions, ask her and she will explain it to your understanding.

Niki Mantyla(sounds like Vanilla) is a patient, considerate, fair teacher. She does not ask more than what should be expected, just turn in homework on time, be in class and you won't have any problems. BUY THE TEXT BOOK!!!

Nikki's class was fun..I have already recommended her to several people. There is a lot of work to do, but she is very helpful and lets you know what she expects out of you. Watch out for being tardy though...it could kill your grade! Other than that it was a great class and I learned a lot.

The class was very interesting and somewhat annoying. I hated having to take notes in my book especially since it was for points and I am someone who never has taken notes. Just because it is her style doesn't mean we should have to do it.I enjoyed her ability to relate different writing styles to pop culture events.

I liked that we didnâ??t use a textbook and that all the reading and assignments were online. She is a very nice professor but I didnâ??t always find the classes productive. She really likes to make lists and she values class participation. I really have a hard time with mandatory attendance and would rather it be about our work product.

This class was somewhat helpful. I wouldn't say it was extremely helpful because sometimes it seemed like we were doing something just to pass time. Always a lot of homework. I dont like the teaching style. It felt like high school all over again. Nikki is really nice though and will help with any questions or concerns you have.

Nikki is an incredible teacher. I loved her class! She is extremely helpful and very passionate about her work! There is quite a bit of writing required in this class but it's separated fairly well. (Not all at once!)If you keep up with your homework and ask questions when you need help- you'll do great! :)

I have enjoyed Nikki's class a lot. Although, its been quite challenging. She does give a lot of homework, but none of it is all that hard. I did not do well on the class, so i am writing this review, hopefully you don't make the same mistake i do. You MUST be on top of your homework, if you fall behind, by all mean you have to get it done as soon as possible. Nikki is one of my favorite teachers I have had. She really seams to love to teach and she made me glad to be in class. My favorite part of her class was the discussions we had as a class. My least favorite part was the grammar portion. I was usually confused doing my grammar homework but then would understand when we discussed it in class.

I really enjoyed Nikki's class. I thought that she was very helpful in making sure you understood the assignments. Lots of grammar work but that's necessary for writing. Some of the readings for the class are boring but the helped you to understand what was expected of you in her class and helped you with ideas. All in all she wants you to succeed.

Nikki is very helpfull and enthusiastic. For the most part she is clear and concise, but there are times that she forgets to include things; I think it's on purpose to get us to think for ourselves. Make sure you get to class and on time---she is very strict about this---and you'll learn a lot. I bet she can teach you something about grammar too.

I had her for english1010 and english 1020 (her english 1020 class was a lot easier than her 1010 class, we mostly focused on our online blogs). As for her english1010 class, there were a lot of papers and readings. You definitely can't be lazy if you want to succeed.

I have really enjoyed this teacher. She has taught me a lot about grammar and how to use them in my other classes. She was well organized and was very helpful if you had any questions. She had multiple ways of getting in touch with her so if you had a question on doing your assignment she could help.

Nikki is way cool and her class is way chill. Best part is no textbook. Don't take it during the summer though, way too much crammed into 8 weeks. although she made it fun and interesting.Don't get behind on grammar either its tough to make up at the end. and make sure you aren't tardy!!!

I really enjoyed Nikki's class; I also took her ENGL-1010 class a while back. Both classes were great, Nikki has one of the best teaching styles that I have ever seen. She is great at explaining what is expected, and is always eager to help you if you want it. In the 2010 class we did not need a text book. I enjoyed the way she teaches grammar.

Nikki is the best English teacher I have had for a college course. She doesn't adhere to the lecture-style teaching and has a more discussion/group-oriented class structure. The semester project is a blog which allows to you explore various types of writing. Be warned though! Summer semester moves FAST! We had four assignments due every class!

Highly recommended. Her class is really fun and she incorporates fun and inventive ways of learning the required course objectives.

I found this class to be one of the best English classes I have taken. I loved the approach that Niki took in allowing us to write about topics that we are passionate about. It made the assignments much more enjoyable. I wouldn't recommend taking it at night during summer term, this makes for very long class periods.

Nikki's class was very good. She encouraged (made us) write about subjects that we were intersted in. She never forced us to write about a particular subject. This he class much more enjoyable and useful. I would recommend not taking the class summer term at night because some of those nights can drag on.

I really enjoyed this course. Nikki is a great professor. Very willing to help you with any problems. I wouldn't recommend taking this course in the summer semester if you are a procrastinator like me. You have to keep up on your assignments. I found her class to be refreshing compared to writing and working strictly out of text books. She kept our writing assignments relevant and was very helpful in making sure you succeed. Her teaching style made you want to come to class regardless of a strict attendance policy. I actually learned much more about writing from this class than before.

Nikki's 2010 class is very hands on lots of class discussion & evaluation, she uses movie clips to make things relevant. She uses canvas to submit all assignments and it's very slick and easy. There is a large amount of reading(not from a textbook) stay on top of it and you'll be fine. I enjoyed the class and i don't regularly enjoy english.

Nikki is one of the best English professors at SLCC. She is very helpful and clear on the assignments. You do punctuation marks which aren't fun but you learn a lot. As long as you do all the work you should get an A. The class is pretty easy and fun at the same time. The best part is there is no textbook so less cost for us students.

This class was a lot of fun. We had a lot of assignments because it was Summer Semester but Nikki kept it fun and interesting. I feel like I learned a lot more from this class than I did in prior English classes. I learned skills that I will be able to take with me to other classes that will be a huge benefit.

The teacher does an amazing job of making things stick in your head. She give example and makes thing very clear. I also loved that she interacted well with the class, which made me pay attention a lot more. The class has a lot to do on the computer, and there are a lot of assignments, but the assignments are not just a waste of time, they help.

Nikki's English 2010 class was the first English class I had taken that I actually felt like I learned something in. Attendance is a must, however, her classes and teaching style is definitely worth going. Instructions are clear and simple. I highly recommend her as a professor!

I'd compare her class to a water slide, sure you have to climb the ladder to the top, but once you get to the top, it's free slide all the way down. So meaning you have to work a little bit to reap the full reward.

I have really enjoyed this class. The lessons are always super involved and you learn quite a bit. She makes the material relatable and the website instead of a textbook is a really cool idea. Professor Mantyla is a great English professor. She teaches outside of the box; instead of ignoring grammar and punctuation (the things you will actually use after class) she emphasizes it. There is a lot of reading and it's not an easy A but you will not regret it. She is there because she loves it and it shows. Beware:Attendance is mandatory!

Nikki is very clear on what she wants you to do. She gives you a lot of feedback on your assignments & website. There are a lot of small yet easy grammar assignments we have to do,& a lot of readings. The one thing I didn't like was that she marks you tardy & absent. After 2 of each your grade starts to drop-which is hard for people with jobs & fam

Nikki is a great teacher who, after listening to her, you can tell totally loves her job. What I loved most about this class was that she actually took the time to try and teach us grammar. So many teachers just brush over that and go right to writing papers. She doesnt. She wants to everyone to understand english!

This was one of the best teachers that I have had so far. She is very informative and direct with what is required in the class. It is fun and most of the writing assignments you get to pick the topic for. If you don't like reading or talking in class discussions then this probably isn't the class for you.

Nikki has a different approach to the subject of teaching english. You will pick a topic and make a blog about it. You will do the required genre papers as part of it. It is a lot more enjoyable. Profile, report, instructions etc. You will need to participate and read articles frequently. One big perk is that no text is required.

Nikki is just amazing! If you follow her rubric you will do amazing, just go to class everyday, or you miss points on your grade, she also has lots of extra credit available. She teaches you how to write amazing essays, and very approachable. She's the nicest lady you will ever take! I can't wait to take her for 2010! :D

I absolutely loved this class. Grammar was a huge problem for me and Nikki made it fun and easy to learn! Attendance is huge. Working full time and going to school full time made it hard to keep up with all the assignments there is in class but they are not hard. She is super helpful if you have any questions anytime.

I didn't regret at all picking this class!!

Nikki is a really good teacher and is always easy to talk to and approach if you need help or have questions, she does give you points and grades you upon attendance and participation in class which is something I wasn't used to. I would recommend taking her class but stay up on your work and go to class or you will have a hard time passing.

I was dreading taking this class. I'd heard about other professors and how strict and boring they were, and that they gave homework just for the sake of giving homework. Let's face it, it's English, how exciting can it be, right? Boy was I wrong. Nikki made the class so much fun. She gives wonderful feedback and really made the class enjoyable.

I really thought the information was inspiring and I have never had so much joy in learning about semi-colons. I just love how much I learned about writing and that is so important to me since that's kind of who I am. I feel that Nikki values her students and makes class fun to go to rather than a boring lecture.

She is a great teacher! Her teaching style helps you be able to remember the things that she teaches. I feel like she gives you guidance but lets you put your own style into your work. I would take a class from her again.

I thought this was an amazing class, English has always been my weak subject and I have learned a lot and actually enjoyed it. Nikki has a way of making you learn while having a laugh or two (sometimes at her expense). I wish I would have been in her 1010 class. I would highly recommend Nikki for any type of student.

She makes her lessons essay to understand, and fun to attend. I was a little nervous when I realize that she likes to interact, but she makes the class feel comfortable so that wasn't a problem at all. If you go to class and do your homework you'll pass, and will learn new things as well.

Nikki has a genuine concern for her students and wants them to understand the concepts of proper English. A good grade can be easily achieved by staying on top of your assignments and attending all the classes. Along with a text book, Nikki uses her own grammar blog which is full of easy to understand text and examples.

There were lots of assignments but it wasn't really stressful because the assignments were pretty easy (mostly reading and responding). Nikki also made sure the class knew what to do with our papers and helped us build them over time. If you're shy like me you will be pushed out of your comfort zone a little. Also, lots of extra credit!

Nikki Mantyla is an amazing teacher, she is real concise with her expectations in order to pass her class. She gives helpful in-class lectures that are extremely helpful when it comes to writing papers. She will teach you some pretty good writing skills that you will use when writing future papers.

Nikki is very fair. She wants her students to succeed and is very clear about what she expects on assignments. She is willing to work with anyone who puts in a little effort. The assignments are not hard or time consuming. Go to class and do the assignments and you will do just fine.

Ms. Mantyla was a great teacher and I hate English . . . a lot! We had to create a website and write blogs and other papers related to the topic we were able to choose! It was nice because every paper was either helping or leading up to another. As where in most English classes, you get random papers that are meaningless.

This class was a very different approach to teaching English I never knew of before. I absolutely loved it! The idea of creating your own website was exciting, because it allowed me to be creative, write, learn, and have fun with it all at the same time! There are quite a few reading assignments, other than that loved her class.

We created a blog in the class which gave an updated, fresh perspective to the class. I learned a lot about myself, my writing and reading improved, and so did my grammar! I thought this was a great class. I fell a little bit behind due to some personal matters and she helped me get caught up. Her lectures were very informative and called for easy class participation. She often gives extra credit for extra participation. She gives great feedback on most assignments. I would recommend her class to future students.

Professor Mantyla is an excellent English teacher. There are usually 2 assignments a week (although they never take more than 30 minutes to an hour to complete, I did them right before class every Wednesday). She doesn't require a book, and there are no tests.

There is a lot of work, But if you go to class and do the work you shouldn't have a problem passing.

I want to first off say that I enjoyed this class. I could tell Nikki really wanted to prove what she was trying to say in a way that you could understand and I appreciated that. The only things I didn't like about the class were that I had to read in front of the class regularly as well as get into groups. However, I am a type 2 personality! :)

I thought Nikki's 1010 class was awesome. For the most part, I really found what she taught helpful, I felt like I learned a lot that I didn't know previously. One thing that kind of sucked, at times when she explained things it was kind of in a confusing way and a tad hard to understand, but for the most part pretty easy, fun class. I enjoyed it.

Nikki makes each class a fun learning experience. The assignments are all due online but if you are in class she explains exactly how to do them making the homework easy. There is no book needed for this class and the final is super easy. If you take this class from Nikki you will not regret it.

This class is not a good option to take if you are a truly motivated student. While editing is a essential component of the writing process, the assignment to have a grammar portfolio is ridiculous. True scholars do not worry about grammar.

Its hard to catch up if you fall behind. Attendance is a must for this class. There is a ton of reading involved in this class. I enjoyed taking it.

Loved this class because it focused more on what the curriculum was about. I love that this was a hybrid class which meant hw online and discussions in class. Nikki is a great person to work with and very thorough. I just wish she would check her canvas inbox more often. Haha! Do discuss any issues you may have in class and she will def help!

Great English teacher! She really likes to get you thinking and really participate in your assignments. A lot of busy work. Expect 2-3 assignments of reading and writing every class period.

Nikki is a wonder, fun-loving teacher. I have learned more about grammar in this semester than I did all through out high school. She makes grammar rules simple to understand and easy to remember. The only thing slightly that could turn some people (Type A's) the wrong way is that she is pretty laid back and class can seem a little unorganized.

You need to actually go to this class. I missed a few classes and felt slightly lost, however she is good at breaking things down and telling you what you need in order to pass. She is very nice and she clarifies assignments really well so you don't feel lost. She is a great teacher and I would definitely take a class from her again.

She is a fabulous teacher. She kind of has her own method which I like (different but good). She has a quirky personality and makes class easy to go to. You do need to go to class to pass. Professor Mantyla, is an excellent professor, with a knowledge of condensing complex subjects, really allowing for the student to internalize them. I've gained a great deal from her class; if you're a new student with an interest in writing and don't know a thing about grammar, take this course! She's a fair grader, and has a good work load.

NIkki was super friendly, she's very helpful, and it's a really easy going class. It was really laid back, there's very little pressure. I learned quite a bit about English, which great. I wish she taught more classes, she's a great teacher, I would defiantly take more classes if she taught them. On the last day we even had a pizza party.

I have really enjoyed all of my English professors at SLCC, but Nikki has been a real gem. She incorporates all angles of teaching and learning. She's easy going, fun-loving, and totally cares about her students. All of the homework we've had is applicable to the class. The assignments are done on a website you create. No busy work! You'll love it!

Nikki is really awesome. Hence the reason everyone gIves her a good grade. She is very good at getting class discussions going and letting get to know each other. It's one of those classes where you end up just cracking up with everyone. She's very energetic and is verydynamic. She does give reasonable amount of hw but nothing you can't handle.

Amazing. This was my second time taking this class and i'm so glad i took it with Nikki. She's funny and gets it that life happens outside of school. Very lenient on grading, i got 95% on all my papers. Only 3 papers!! She is positive and upbeat, but I will say the class did have some tones of feminism and liberal topics. Off topic sometimes.

Nikki was a very good English 1010 professor. She doesn't teach 1010 as often so there were a couple assignments that she was rusty on but we got through everything. It is obvious that she cares about the success of her students and is willing to work with you. She grades fairly and gives good feedback.

We did have a lot of readings which led to discussion posts, but they weren't too bad as long as you lock in, you can complete them. Overall, I felt happy in this class. Nikki is an excellent professor. She teaches the ENGL 112 class very differently; she doesn't give out papers in this class and instead builds the year around building a website where each page is different. She is lovely and doesn't make you feel stupid or dumb when asking questions. She assigns a lot of reading, but other than that, she is great.
