She was a researcher in her past career, first semester teaching, and most definitely is not teaching at an intro level. Many students are having a hard time keeping up, and many say the other BIO 100 classes (taught by other professors), are much easier.
There is a lot of reading. Although she is new and tough, she has changed through the semester. If you like Biology and have good studying habits you should do fine.Slackers will not pass. Whenever I have a question I email her and she responds within a day.The new lab book and lab are being changed so lab should be much better in a semester or two.
Good professor, extremely knowlegdeable in her field but not so much in general biology, she was very communicative however and lab was quite a bit of fun. This class was not easy, if you're interested in genetics, take this class, if you just want a survey of biology maybe choose another.
I think she's my favorite professor. One of the few professors with lectures where I actually wanted to pay attention. I may even go as far as to say I looked forward to them. All concepts were explained effectively, and I picked them up right away. She even organized time outside of class to help those who needed it. Good professor for sure.
A lot of stuff to absorb in for intro class, but if you keep up it's fine. Has a lot of Powerpoints and study guides to help with quizzes and tests. Homework is minimal. She is also nice and will help if asked.
shes tight, really nice helpful, curve grades, go to class study and you got it
Doctor Plaster makes it very easy to be earn a passing grade in her class. She is very willing to put in time out of class in order to help students succeed. If there are students that are not successful in this class it is because of the students' lack of effort. It is imperative that a student keeps up with the readings or they will feel lost.
class requires a lot of reading ... no hw only exams!
She is an awesome professor. Very helpful and she made the class very interesting. Hands down my best professor. There is a lot of reading, however she makes it very clear at the start of class that if you don't read you will fall behind.
Awesome professor. Knows her stuff, and is very very helpful, just ask questions. no surprises at all, what she teaches is what you are tested on. Makes it fun and makes you laugh.
Really good teacher! I would definitely recommend her! knows her stuff, makes class fun, really prepared. You don't really need the textbook, just the lab book. Weekly tests online, but they aren't too difficult. I hated biology, but she really made it interesting and super easy to understand! Seriously, awesome teacher!!
Wonderful teacher! I learned so much about Biology I didn' know before. Very clear and easy to do well if you put a little effort in. The study guides she posts have all you need to know for the tests. :)
dr. plaster is great. she really made time to help. she will go out of her way to help you pass. you do need to go to class to get the lecture even though the powerpoints are posted online. there are things that you will pick up on in lecture that will not be on the slides. readings are very necessary. also, do the study guides. she loves her job!
Has a good sense of humor, keeps the lecture interesting, posts very helpful study guides for each exam, no surprise questions on her exams, very little homework(google has all the answers to online quizzes, easily passable if you understand the material
Awesome professor.Have to come to the class for all the material you need for the exams.I don't like biology before taking her class. I learnt alots after this class.Love the lab hours, fun and useful
I love professors who try to know their students. Our class was around 50 and she tries to remember everyone's name. She's very clear on her lectures. I was a little bit worried since I changed my major and i need to take a lot of science subjects. She encourages you to ask questions and see her on her office. Very friendly and clear professor!
She is geared to teach and help her students pass. She is dedicated, and fair. A fun person to be around and a good teacher. Labs were fun and informative. She is there for you the whole process. She is good at what she does and she understands not every student will be a scienctist!
Wonderful professor! I walked in this class thinking it's boring and hard, I was so wrong. She wants you to learn and not be like dogs memorizing tricks. She's very friendly, welcomes everyone in her office. The class is not hard, it involves a lot of reading and really understanding what the lesson is all about. Her powerpoints are available 24/7.
Excellent and professional There iare reading and pre-quizes, but they help you to get ur head before the games. Should be an easy A!!
I loved Dr. Plaster, she was such a great lecturer and always willing to help. I got low B's on my first two exams but after reading the book and properly doing the study guides I would get 95-98% on the tests. Definitely worth taking!
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!! Very Helpful and answers all student's question. She is very Smart and knows her material VERY WELL!!! You will never get bored with the lecture coz she always has some humor to share with the class. When it comes to exams, you really must pay attention with the study guide... and make sure to do the online quizzes and study fo
This teacher cars about her students and is one of the most thorough teachers I have been taught by. This teacher knows what she is talking about and she really drives the students to learn and use all there resources. She is not an easy teacher but she is approacheable at anytime. Her door isopen and there is no dumb question. Challenge her.
Very nice and fun teacher, answers any questions you have. I thought taking a lecture + lab was going to be rough but taking it with Prof P. made it very doable.
One of the best teachers i've had! usually biology classes (especially lectures) are super boring, but she was very informative and always put a humorous spin on things. Very intelligent, knows what she is talking about. I had a different teacher for the lab portion, but overall an easy class!
Professor Plaster is one of the best teachers I have had so far. She is organized and is excellent with her lectures. Always very friendly and willing to help.
Easy class. 4 Exams (No final), which aren't too bad because professor has study guides which tell you everything you need to know. Weekly online quizzes are good because you just look in the textbook for answers. 2 homework assignments throughout the class which don't take long, lectures are usually interesting, and labs are usually pretty fun too
Very sweet and knowledgeable in class material which got me very interested in the subject, as well as any outside questions/topics we would ask/discuss with her.
Lab quiz every week which are simple and easy. Plaster is very kind and helpful. Read slides and lecture notes to get an A. Book doesn't help much. Homework assignments and lab work are easy (based on effort), just time consuming. Any Bio class has lots of information, so don't study the day before the test.
The Best Science teacher EVER!!!
Wonderful professor! Very helpful and recommended for students not used to taking science classes!
I found this class intersting. Dr Plaster has a great way of explaining the material. she is very qualified, helpful and fair. if you are a cheater, I would advise you not to take her class. I got a B considering the fact that I do not have a scientific mind, but I got the big picture about living things, the ecosystem, evolution, even spices!
Professor Plaster is very nice and helpful. Most of the information that is on her test is mentioned during lecture, so it really helps to record her lecture. I'm not a fan of bio, but she made biology interesting to me.
I love her, she is the best prof ever!!! Is she easy? Yes and No, if you put some efforts, you will do well, but if you don't, you'll be stressed out from falling behind. She is funny, smart and lovely.
This professor blew my mind. She makes herself available for you and is very warm & encouraging. The class was extremely interesting & taught in an organized fashion. She makes it very easy to pass the exams by providing a detailed study guide of what will be on them. 4 exams total 2 HW and weekly online quizzes. Take her class!
I don't know what is wrong with the people that left a review saying that she is the "best" teacher. she is, definitely, not! her tests are hard. short answer, MC, and fill in the blank. It does not match the study guide that she gives. Her way of teaching is boring. I wouldn't suggest taking her. but she is bearable!
I don't know what the most recent person is talking about, Nikki is great! I will admit her class is challenging BUT her study guides follows everything on the exam. Don't listen to what that person is saying. You can even ask Nikki what she wants for as an answer and she'll give it to you. I recommend taking her if you're in the medical field.
Nikki is great! I will admit her class is challenging BUT her study guides follows everything on the exam. Don't listen to what the negative comments! She answer questions on the study and tells you what she expects as an answer. I recommend taking her if you're in the medical field.
Nikki is great! Her class is challenging BUT her study guides follows everything on the exam. Don't listen to the negative comments! She answer questions on the study and tells you what she expects as an answer. I recommend taking her if you're in the medical field.
Absolutely wonderful professor. A little effort and studying and you will get an A. She makes things easy and engaging and shows care in teaching. She helps students after classes and will put herself out there to assist you if you struggle, all you need to do is be open to learn.
She's funny and cool to talk to. Her lectures are interesting sometimes, but mostly just the usual stuff. She gives a lot of busy work which I did not like! Lots of at home assignments, quizzes, and videos to watch. Just too much to handle if you have kids or work full time. But her tests aren't that bad. I didn't study at all for two, got c's.
Plaster is a really great professor. She puts a funny spin on dry topics and uses a lot of visual ideas to help you understand topics. You'll need an iclicker (bookstore) because you get a lot of points that way. Overall funny and passionate. I would definitely recommend as long as you put the work in.
Take Nikki! She is absolutely amazing! There are only a few tests throughout the semester, and she is there for you every step of the way! Her lectures are clear cut and funny! Her study guides outline everything on the test! Seriously great prof.. she really cares!
Very nice and caring teacher. The exams are fair if you study for them. If you don't study, you will not pass.
Doctor Plaster is an amazing professor who really knows the material. She is always there to help you and always recommend students to come by her office for help. Her exams are simple, it comes straight off of the study guide and the study guide comes off of the lecture, so study both and you'll pass with a B at minimum, and an A if you try hard.
Dr. Plaster is an inspirational professor. Her lectures are interesting and she's very passionate about it. Do the study guide and get good grades on the mastering biology and you will get an A in the class. The exam is straight forward and she doesn't try to trick you. Four exams, 3 homeworks, mastering biology, and quizzes. Take her! I love her.
Ms. Plaster is an excellent teacher. Attendance matters especially for clicker questionspop quizzes. She is super helpful and always gives good feedback for improving test scores or how to study. The exams are lecture based, and there is HW that will help. The content is a lot for new students to take her advice! She makes bio fun!
biology is not my favorite but I passed, all you have to do is go to class, do the study guides keep up on the homework, go to her office hours and pay attention. Its not an easy class if you don't like biology. but put in work and you will see good results.
I love Dr. Plaster! She explains each topic in order for you to understand it. As long as you read the chapters, watch the Bozeman videos and go over lecture notes then you can pass. It is a lot of studying. Don't procrastinate and be lazy! Do the study guides for the exams because they're so helpful. If you need help ask her she won't mind.
This class is very easy for me, even though i don't like Biology much. All you have to do is finish all home work (it's only 3 home work for the whole sem.), and online home work using access code, do good in lab. My real grade is really bad, but my lab score home work, and attendance helped to raise my grade up to 1 letter grade.
Great Professor! The second textbook is online (On Food & Cooking by McGee) 3 Unit Test Final is optional (if you score high then it replaces your lowest test) 5-8 question quizzes everyday Pre-Lecture Guides every chapter 2 Kitchen Experiments And you get to "observe" food. BEST CLASS EVER!!
Professor Plaster is a very good teacher that actually cares about her students. As far as her class goes, it's all in the students' hands to do well. She definitely gives you the opportunity to get a good grade with attendance/clicker points, quiz points, homework, mastering biology, and a combined lab score. Her exams are very difficult though
I took her class last semester at 7:55 in the morning. She is very clear on what she expects from her students. She gives long study guides, but they help tremendously. It's still up to you to do the work though. She is a great professor; there is a reason her classes fill up so quickly.
She is an amazing instructor. Yes her class is a lot of work but you learn a lot. Must do home work, if you do her study guides guaranteed A. She is an amazing instructor I recommend her to any nursing student gives you a good foundation for future BIO classes.
Dr. Plaster is the best! A lot of study and homework but she really helps building the foundation for future Bio classes. She is really helpful and do visit her at her office hour! That helps a lot if you have problem with homework or with the study guide. Dr. Plaster is the best! I am so glad that I took her class. She makes me love Biology!!
Do not slack off in her class. She is straight forward with all her material. Gives you a list of all things due with due dates. Tests are tough, be sure to review all study guides, videos, slide notes and text book. Lecture is chill, lab is great ( take her for both). This class is alot of independent studying as she states & class is for review.
Tests are structured as followed : multiple choice, fill in the blank, paragraph questions and picture diagrams. Always come to class on time or you will get locked out for the quiz portion of lecture. Doable B, average of class C . After the second exam about 12 people dropped the class. She tells all this!!
Plaster is the best professor! She made me love biology!! I changed my major simply because of the passion she exerts throughout the room every class and made me really fall in love with science. I always failed my science classes in high school but in her bio100 class I received an A. She will teach you in any way to make sure you understand.
Dr. Plaster is one of my favorite professors. Biology is hard. Do the readings and prelecture guides. It's not much work maybe 45 mins give or take, but they are tremendously helpful. I slacked a little on them and there was a big difference in how well I understood the material. I would definitely recommend a class with Dr. Plaster.
One of my favorite teachers at GWC!
Dr. Plaster is by far the best professor I have had. She keeps her lectures interesting, and she sincerely cares about her students. Her tests are pretty hard but all based on the pre lecture guides which are due every class. Do your pre lectures guide and you will get an Easy A. I love Dr. Plaster and would take her again.
Plaster was a super sweet teacher who truly wanted all her students to pass. Even though her tests were a little difficult, I took Plaster for Bio100 and lab and got an A. What helped me was doing all the pre-lecture guides. Also, all her test questions come from her powerpoints, so pay attention during lecture and go over them before each exam.
She'll make you work for your grade but its worth it. I slacked off for the first test & got a D. I worked my butt off trying to get better grades on tests since they're what affects your grade the most and I received an A for my final grade. It wasn't easy but she was always available whenever I needed help which was why I got an A.
She is approachable and her lecture are very interesting. Her class has a lot of homework and I think her prelecture guide would be more helpful if done after class because we put a lot of vague topics we dont understand before class. She is very knowledgeable and knows a lot in bio. Sometimes her lessons could be disorganized and test are not easy
She has been one of the few female professors that I have liked over many years of college. She will never make you feel demeaned/stupid. If you focus on getting high grades on the pre-lectures, few 20pt homework assignments, and complete every lab thoroughly, then you don't have to do THAT well on the exams. However, they are more grade heavy.
Professor Plaster is amazing! She is so sweet, silly, and knows how to keep a class engaged. One of my fav teachers, she will never make you feel stupid if you don't understand something and she is very understanding. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed! Every assignment has a purpose and is only for your benefit.
Professor Plaster is great. Her lectures are super easy to tune into because she is so interested in the subject she's teaching and she is far from boring. Shes also quite hilarious. But be aware to not miss ANY of the online quizzes. I missed one of the Exam quizzes and it ruined my grade. Other than that she's great at teaching this subject.
If you want a prof who truly cares about Biology and want to learn yet really work for your grade, this is your choice. She is very nice, and very smart. Intimidating at first, (until I met her for office hours). She wants students to do well, that she knows truly want to excel. Print out EVERY lecture and take it to class with you.
She is not clear in what will be on the exam and will not give you the correct answers to the pre lecture guides so youre forced to study using a guide that could possibly have the wrong information. She makes this class more difficult than it needs to be.
This is the worst professor I ever had. Absolute garbage. The way her class is set up is meant to make you struggle. I do the annoying lecture guides and I dont learn nothing cause I never get the correct answers. She just is not good I wouldnt recommend her for anything
Dr Plaster is amazing! She is my favorite teacher ever. She truly cares about you doing well in her class. It is not an easy A though, you do have to earn it. She doesnt care about your excuses or laziness. Work hard and youll do well. She will always help you study and if you pay attention in lecture youll know all you need to for exams.
Amazing professor! Print out every lecture and complete every lecture study guide. If you don't know the answers to the study guides do the best you can then go to her in office hours. She wants you to succeed and is very open to help. She is extremely prompt with her emails, responses, and grading.
CALLING ALL INCOMING FRESHMEN! if you are looking to complete your biology requirement take Dr. Plaster! Not only will you learn all the material in depth, you will also have a thorough understanding of what it all means! There are daily clicker questions, and the points do add up! All her test material comes from her lectures and lab is a blast!
Prof. Plaster is really energetic & tries to get students involved so that they'll learn. There's a lot of ways to get points which means there's space for error. She makes herself available to her students as a resource & wants to see us succeed. I'd recommend her to incoming freshmen or anyone who need to satisfy a science credit.
Her questions are hard because she doesn't explain well, she keeps that she teach that you are her level kind and explain in ways that never work, she never goes on detail of the question of different rates, If you can she will give you by the work, but she doesn't work with people that don't understand that people are not same abilities as her.
The worst class that I have ever taken in my whole life. Her grading system is the most ridiculous thing and her test are all like 100 questions each with like 4 parts not just multiple choice. She thinks that everyone in her class wants to be biologist but in reality it is a requirement. Basically if you want to fail Bio 100 then take her.
Dr. Plaster is setting you up for failure when you take this class. I can assure you that I tried everything from the pre lectures to the slides and reading the book but nothing helps when studying for her extra test. She complicates things to the fullest extent and makes things more difficult for you. I DO NOT recommend taking this teacher at all!
I have no idea why those that gave Dr. Plaster bad ratings did so, and I suspect it's the same person coming back because they're pissed at her. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! I can't even describe how helpful Dr. Plaster is, how encouraging, how fair she is and what a great lecturer she is except to say she is AWESOME. She is a great teacher!!
Dr. Plaster is a super positive and straightforward professor. She will tell you what her expectations are and isnt super lenient if you take a test late at night and come across technical issues. Quizzes through connect are pretty tough but not horrible if you read and understand the material assigned. Participate in class too! It can help
First couple exams were about 50 questions. Many of the questions made up of 5-20 parts. All exams are on proctorio, and the class seemed to be struggling with it. A couple of announcements were made threatening to take points away from people by the professor for things she didnt like in the recordings. If proctorio gives you anxiety find another.
She was very nice! But the tests were proctored and difficult. Tough grader on the labs. I'd recommend if you want to learn bio but not for an easy A class.
I think that Dr. Plaster is a solid professor and quite passionate, but her BIO100 course really is as hard as people say (at least if youre non-STEM). I learned a lot, but with weekly confusing, long quizzes; written labs; and a whopping FIVE dense exams, it kind of killed me. Most of my energy was spent stressing/studying for this class alone.
Don't take that class with her. She's really bad
Tough grader
Don't listen to those who slam Professor Plaster.. she's the best. She is caring, very knowledgeable, funny and her lectures are amazing. I had her for lecture and Lamantia for lab. Both were top-notch. Prof. Plaster won't let you slack, and she'll do whatever she can to make sure you understand biology. She's a GREAT instructor!
Her class was ok, it was interesting, but also pretty challenging. She has a bunch of things that will get you free points, like completing a survey after an exam, but she's a tough grader on the few assignments that she has. She holds review sessions before the exam and will drop your lowest score.
if you pay attention to review sessions and do light studying you will succeed. she cares a lot and is super sweet and will provide you with a bunch of resources.
I had to drop out of her class because the tests were so hard. There was a lot of reading and her videos with power points didn't help for the test at all. Very tough grader.
Doctor Plaster is a super sweet individual who genuinely cares about her students and their success. Although her class is a little hard, as long as you pay attention and participate in lectures, you don't really have to study outside of class. She made a hard subject very manageable and makes herself available outside of class.
It really makes sense why opinions on Professor Plaster are quite mixed. She is a wonderful person, and she is truly so so sweet, but her workload is unfortunately rather hefty and difficult to manage. For those that are taking this class as a part of general education- it's better to take a different class! This one is really time consuming.
Prof. Plaster was a great teacher. She went way out of her way to give everyone a good chance at passing the class; she provides alternatives to online learning, study groups, and scheduling. I would do the practice exam if you can because that alone got me a B in all of my tests, because the questions are taken straight from the test.
I love Dr. Plaster. Ive never been a science person but I love how she gives us all the content the week before class so everyone gets a chance to understand the material before coming to class. If you ever get the chance, take her class.
Professor Plaster's BIO100 is challenging but worthwhile. She cares about students and provides ample resources. To succeed, engage with lectures, use the textbook, and try Unstuck study for efficient study prep.
That was my first semester back to school and Biology was so intimidating. I was so lucky and grateful to have Dr. Plaster as she truly cares fore your success, and manages her lectures very well. Obviously, you have to read, prepare and study actively. This class is not low hanging fruits for you. But she will preps you surely well for Anatomy.
This professor was very sensitive; she thought I used an overlay app when I took the exam through the lockdown browser.
Really sweet professor who cares that you learn the material! Study guides are very clear and structured and all of the exam questions are based on them. If you show up to class, participate, and do the study guide, you'll do great! Highly recommend and would take again!
She was a wonderful professor; she took care of how students learn and practice, aiming for a good score at the end. She is very funny and friendly, an easy A if you attend every lecture and lab day.
The best professor I've ever had. I learned so much in her class and she is always down to help you in or out of class. There is quite a bit of studying to do before the tests, but if you can complete the provided study guide easily, you'll ace the tests. Labs are easy. Attendance is VERY important due to clicker questions in class for points.
Plaster overall is a solid Biology professor. I learned a ton from her class, and she sets you up with a good foundation if you plan to take future Biology courses. Plaster will drop your lowest exam score, so that means if you do well on the first 3 out of 4 exams, you won't have to take the final. Major plus! Plaster is also very accessible.
This was the best class I've taken this semester. The material was engaging, and the instructor explained it very clearly. While the lectures were a bit long, they were thorough and made the information easy to understand.
