Ms. Riley is a great teacher. Not hard at all. Very flexible- will work with you. Just don't take advantage. Stays with you during lab. Great personality, shows concern. You can get by copying others but you should not as the lab practicums may be hard if you do not cover the material yourself.
This professor is very sweet. She is willing to help any student if they need it. She is tough when it comes to tests but just read the book really well. I reccomend her to anyone wanting to take Biology or the lab. Be prepared to study like crazy for the practicums though.
Very good teacher. Class notes and tests go hand in hand, but when she wants you to study from the book she will let you know. Show genuine concern and her reviews help the material stick in your head. She is also the most beautiful teacher i EVER had (eye candy helps you pay attention). recommended
I think she just gave everyone in our Bio lab an A. I don't know how I pulled an A off, but I am not complaining. As for hot, she's not really hot, but shes not a bad looking lady.

This Professor did a good job given her circumstances of a broken foot and illnesses throughout the summer, she made a very, very difficult class easy. You will not find another professor that explains bio and drills you on it like her.
I have Ms. Riley for General Bio Lab. She is probably THE BEST lab teacher you can possibly get for BIO101. I know because I've gone through three. She's very nice, makes sure the class is all on the same page as far as what to do in the lab. Will answer any and all questions you may have even sometimes what the answers are to the lab questions.
Ms. Riley is funny and makes her lectures fun and effective. She'll give you lecture notes, practice questions on tests and everything you need to know. She will give oral quizzes to everyone in the class b4 a test to make sure you know the information. Though biology is hard the teacher makes it somewhat bearable.
She was really nice, but that is not the issue here, the issue is that those tests are out of this world, like in class we learn all this stuff but on the test it is like a mind game, like, who can read her mind the best...hello, i didnt recall learning this, and well the book said this but thats not an option in this multiple choice test
Nice, fair, funny, helpful. All the things a great teacher should be. Sometimes she would not show up for class which could be frustrating, and she was a little too easy at times, but I would recommend her to anyone who needs Bio101 and doesn't want to work very hard.

Take her if you want an easy A in lab. Very lenient with pre-labs, lots of extra credit opportunities. Cool persona, but don't really know if she is helpful or not. She seems to rush through labs, gives us the answers to many of the questions. Like I said, she's lenient, so if you want an easier A in Lab, take her.
Very helpful when she chooses to be. At times she seems very disinterested in the subject matter and loses her points during lecture but if you ask her a direct question she will make every effort to help you understand. If she does not know the answer she will researh until she finds it and come back to you.
She is a cool person, but she doesn't show up on time or she sometimes doesn't show up at all. Being cool doesn't make a good instructor. A good instructor make students understand what she is teaching, but she is not.

dr riley is a gr8 professor her tests are str8 forward she goes over EXACTLY whats goin to be on the next test and her grading is generous
Dr Riley is nice, but at times she talks to fast and it is hard to keep up with her, she does miss alot of classes, so it makes it difficult. She does not offer Extra Credit. I wish she would break it down better. You have to remember alot for the tests, she will go over what will be on the test the day before but it is alot to remember.
She is not a good teacher at all. She rambles, trying to explain things, but never really finishes a thought. She states she tests only from the notes, but then asks you to diagram things on the test that can only be found in the book. If you really want to understand, dont take her. She also loves to give pop quizzes, and gets anoyed with class.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I have taken many, many classes before, and she is by far one of the worst teachers I have had! She is rarely there, and completely inconsistent when she is there. She gets angry if you try to clarify or call her on her inconsistencies. If you really want to understand Science, do not take her! VERY, VERY INCONSISTENT!!!!!
It is true what others rated. Half the time she wasn't there and was usually late to class by 5-10 minutes. Also since the class is only about an hour long it was hard to cover much in the class, with her tardiness and ramblings over diagrams. She doesn't like being 'insulted'(doesn't matter if you weren't) but doesn't mind insulting you back.
Ive had some pretty horrible teachers but this woman WAS THE WORST! Late when she wasn't absent, her teaching was so inconsistent that halfway through the semester she changed the whole syllabus!It was very hard to keep up with her during lecture and she often talked about stuff we didn't need to know. If you want to pass Bio Take someone else!
Dr. Riley is a very adequate teacher. She's not always there to teach, so there's a possibility of your fair share of substitutes, but the information was explained very clearly. Attendance is ABSOLUTELY mandatory.
SUCH AN EASY CLASS! Just make sure you study for tests. Tests are interactive, the handbook wksheets are extracredit. She fills in most of the bllanks before you even begin working so you dont really have to work at all. Very plesant. Just show up and take notes.
Dr. Riley is by far one of the kwelest teacher's i've ever had. She's way chill nd will help you on anythin you need help on she will go thru all the lab ?'s. She was absent a few times nd late the other but none the less she's a good techer. Pre-Labs are worth extra credit in her class. Gives study guides for practicals so if you fail it's on you
She is the worst teacher in the entire college, she just as many of these people have said never comes or comes late, she has not been here all semester practically and we are taking our final tomorrow and still have not even seen our grade. this women is a waste of air. she should be fired if she hates the students so much and her job...well leave

You need to be in class to take notes, she does jump around so you need to be on top of your game. She tells you what you need to know, but you need to read what she tells you to cover. She seems a serious,but she is a sweetheart. Love her. She will give you extra credit if you need it. She is easy to talk to. Mult. choice test, & essay Q's.

She was amazing. She was clear and to the point. She is one of the few teachers that wants you to pass. Her test are exactly what she says they are. Extra Credit offered, help offered, She is always there for her students and wants them to succeed.
She is a great teacher, friendly,and approachable. She will help you with anything even with your Biology class work. You will use the Lab Reports for every class. She explains Biology in a very simple understandable way.Hoping she will teach Biology 110, would recommend her to anyone.

She's a nice person but not a great teacher. She was late all the time and was absent a lot. She didn't stick to the syllabus and seemed to rush through material. Her tests were pretty easy but I don't recommend taking her class
I had her as my lab professor. She gives TONS of extra credit which makes for an easy A in the class. My final grade was around 110 out of 100. The lab exams are difficult but she grades on a curve. Dr Riley didnt seem passionate about any of the material. And at times, she came across a little lazy. So if you only care about an A, take her.
Best Lab instructor Helps students succeed and learn. she seems to have the same schedule as students and is busy a lot but she makes time for everyone and is really caring. If you're going to take a bio instructor take her shes amazing.

Dr. Riley is just amazing! She tends to be late at times, but will make it up usually with extra credit. All hw corresponds with the course and WILL help with tests and quizzes. Dr. Riley is the BEST! She's extremely nice and caring. She gives so much extra credit so it's impossible to not get an A! She gives you a study guide before every test and even reviews the exam right before you take it. She drops your lowest test. She's extremely helpful in lab and lecture. You won't regret taking her!! She is very nice. Even when she was late we still completed our lab. She offered extra credit. She would go over the information before the quizzes. Important to read and do your weekly lab reports to prepare you for that weeks lab class. Very easy going and approachable.
Anatomy is a tough class but having Dr. Riley as a mentor truly gives you peace of mind. She will always go above and beyond to ensure that you have everything in order to be successful. There is a lot of homework but it serves as study material and she also gives study guides for the test. Truly recommend her!

Dr. Riley has to be one of the easiest Anatomy instructors. She makes the class interesting, the only downside is that you're not going to be sure what grade you have in the class, because she takes forever to grade.
Although She moves a tad quickly, Dr. Riley helps break down the material in such a way that it digests much faster than any Bio class ive ever taken! Print the lectures, & be sure to star anything she emphasizes and you are sure to pass with flying colors. Dr. Riley is a wonderful instructor & I cant wait to take her for anatomy over the summer.
Dr. Riley is the best anatomy teacher out there. She really develops a relationship with her students, She told us that anatomy is hard but she doesn't want to stand in the way of us not achieving our dreams, she believes everyone deserve a chance. Many people in other classes complain because of how "easy" the work load is, but I learned so much!!
Professor Riley is rare. She's an instructor who cares if her students pass or not. She makes it possible for you to pass as long as you do your part. Attendance is definitely mandatory. If you study and take notes on what she lecture about there is no reason for one not to pass. I wish there was more like her.
She's an amazing professor but she kept us in the dark about our grades till midterm and afterwards only gave us half grades. Uses scantron and written tests. She's late a lot and gives lots of homework. Did not get to cover everything on the syllabus so we had to learn on our own. She gives a lot of extra credit which helps our grade.

She is very accommodating and you will learn a lot from her, but she wants you to take notes because that will be your guide for upcoming tests. Dr. Riley is probably one of the best professors for anatomy I probably wouldnt have passed with another professor she makes it so much easier to understand and shes also very caring curves the tests and gives extra credit at the end of semester She made anatomy so much fun and easy for me i would definitely take her again if she taught physiology

I took Dr. Riley and I absolutely loved her class. If you are a hardworking individual you will prosper in this class! She is the most warm hearted and caring individual you will ever meet. I would highly recommend her. If youre looking for an easy A change your major. STEM is for hardworking people not people trying to slip by.
Anatomy class is hard in general, what makes her class harder is there is no scene of organization, test are on material that was covered weeks some times a month before, very confusing. She also crams up to 10 chapters in one test. She is often late, personal issues,drama,in and out of lab. Basically teach your self anatomy in this class.
If you are considering taking Riley think twice. She said that past professors and the Dean said she was easy, so now she has made her tests so hard and without proper guidance you basically have to teach yourself everything, including dissecting the cat. She is late to every lecture and lab it's very annoying and expects you to be early waiting.
Dr Riley has the potential to be a great professor. As a person she is kind and caring. Her lectures are rushed and not very informative. Her labs are more like open labs work on your own she also rushes through specimens and skips through the lab manual. Basically teach your self kinda class. Wow thought this Professor was going to be great after reading awesome comments on Rate my Professor. She is not what I expected. This was my first time taking a science class and I was so disappointed by her teaching skills. She is very unorganized and will have you on pins and needles waiting for your test results.

Dr. Riley as an individual is amazing, caring, and would go to the ends of the earth for her students if need be. Anatomy as a whole is a difficult class regardless of who you take. 4 units 12 hours outside of class studying. The tests (2-4 chapters per test) are multiple choice, quizzes are participation based, and extra credit is given.
Anatomy will be intense with who ever you take. The good test are multi choice, teacher/t.a are very approachable. The bad about this class is we had to study up to 10 chapters for each test. Ask any of her spring 2018 students about the amount of material they had to study for each test. B prepared to study a large amt at once. DO UR LAB MANUAL..
Riley herself said to act like your taking Langjahr's class. Think twice she is no easy A. Yes she has SI and yes she gives you all the study material. You will have to teach yourself. Rare powerpoints she puts up scribbled notes the you can't even read and has you take pictures. As for your grades good luck she takes an eternity.
Very unorganized, constantly late, her syllabus states being late and not attending class will affect your grade. She was always late and cancelled many lectures which affected my grade. Her class was drama, drama, drama. You teach yourself basically good luck!

It was a very hard class. Forced myself to learn a lot so I would pass. If you pass this class, you will know that you know the material. SIs are great. Oscar was especially helpful. Get the book and use it, you are going to need it. Practicals are EXTREMELY hard if you dont study. If you study, they are not that bad. Put in your best effort.
If you want to learn and have structure take someone else. Her SI assistants basically teach the class. You can pass so long as you can teach yourself. Study ,study, study.
The class is difficult, she gives extra credit but won't tell you how many points your getting for it. Also took forever for her to grade tests. I got a C just glad I passed.
Summer 2018 WHAT A great semester it was! It was smooth sailing, Dr Riley is amazing and Jorge and Destiny superb! This class is hard you gotta EAT, SLEEP,STUDY! Her lectures are simple but you REALLY need to get the book. ALSO do the tutoring and LAB manual it's a must. This class is all about lab partners choose wisely! DO not bring drama!
Dr. Riley is a great anatomy professor who really cares for her students that are actually trying. During my semester, a lot of drama has been created which is why many students have been unhappy with her teaching style and grading. You're basically teaching yourself about the subject. As long as you study what she tells you, you'll pass the class.
Dr. Riley is such a sweet and caring professor. I don't know what I was thinking taking Anatomy during a summer session, but Dr. Riley made it a great experience. Anatomy is not an easy A whatsoever, you have to definitely put in the work for it but it is certainly possible. Definitely attend SI's and open labs, helps so much on the tests.

The lectures are sooooo long. Sometimes she does not have a clear structure on where she wants to start at and just jumps all over the place most of the time. ALWAYS LATE. You will literally have to wait for her to class when she's just down the hall, it's ridiculous. I wish she would just be punctual and more well structured with her lectures.
To start Off, Biology isn't easy! Lots to read and learn on your on time, Study Study Study! I do appreciate Dr. Riley, She is super caring, super knowledgeable, and will guide you to where you want to be. Just show her respect and all your attention and this class can be an easy A.

She works her heart out for you, carefully considering every scenario from your perspective as a student. She s/mothers you! Our SI was compassionate and so very attentive to our every whims. The best thing is the group activities. I really appreciate my group, having literally been through life and death together.
Professor Riley is confusing and not knowledgeable. Shes always late, jumps around from subject to subject, unorganized and her SI assistant is the one who basically teaches the class. She doesnt know her stuff and always refers back to her SI assistant for help. Tough grader
She is so down to Earth. I just took her during intersession and I thought it was a death sentence but it wasnt. Make sure you color/fill in your lab manual because youll turn it in and do the study guides! The SI is a lifesaver! Hes super nice & his practice tests help A LOT! Make flash cards, go to SI, study hard. Recommend 10/10
Dr. Riley is an awesome professor. She listens to the students and offers help whenever they need it. She cares for her students and wants everyone to succeed. the SI for the class was also a true gem, he helped our class A LOT and we probably would not have made it without his help
Took her in summer, however she was hardly there. So her continuous absence made the class very disorganized. Class consistently starts late, whenever she did come in, we wait a half hour to an hour late for her to arrive and let us into our class. The SI is awesome and he taught us everything for the class. Didn't enjoy the class very much.
Very intelligent, caring and understanding. She gives you a lot of study materials with a guide to help you understand. Jorge the SI is impeccable! They work great together. You truly learn in this class you cannot dodge participation since reviews are done individually during labs, so learning is a must she opens your brain and dumps information

Professor Riley cares for her students, she can easily answer any questions you have. But, unfortunately she can be disorganized which makes keeping up with the class confusing at times.
Do not take her unless you disciplined enough to teach yourself. She was always late to class so lecture was cut short. Even when we had to switch over to online learning she was late to the meetings if she showed up. She makes up by not being too strict on attendance and sometimes curves test. Do not rely on SI for answers to tests. Just read.
I had mixed opinions about this professor. First of she is ALWAYS late to any class. If we did have class, we had lecture for maybe 20 minutes at the most. We basically had to teach ourselves. Once we switched to remote learning it got worse. If you are not organized and basically have discipline to self teach, you will not pass this class.
She's a mess & awful instructor. Don't take her if you're trying to get into the nursing program. She's constantly late and DISORGANIZED. She's constantly sick so she will miss a ton so be ready to teach yourself. She gives extra credit for constantly being "sick" but it won't pick up your grade much or at all. Don't expect her to reply to emails.
Shes so sweet I dont know why people have so much negative feedback!! She actually gives you reasonable time to take tests unlike other professors. She gives you time to do your HW (which is a lot) but if youre on top of it youll be okay. Yes, shes late sometimes yes, she takes a little while to grade but you have to be PATIENT. I loved her
How do you not pass her class? She gives very clear grading criteria and is not a harsh grader at all. She literally covers everything that will be on the test in class and the day prior as well to better prepare you. Anatomy is lots of memorization. Compared to the other anatomy professors, she's the best for an actual chance to pass the class.
I really enjoyed this class. Since Covid I had to take the class online. You have to be prepared to work and study for this class or you wont pass. It's not an easy A that's for sure, but if you work hard you will get a good grade. Wish she graded a little faster though, but overall I liked her.
Her slideshows are really dense & informative, and even outlined what she wanted studied. For online class, her tests were open book and open notes--very easy. If you want a free A+, take the class. Learning in this class is based solely on you; make sure you have a good and consistent schedule, or you'll fall behind.
Ms. Riley was a great professor real gem. I would definitely take her again at first you may feel overwhelmed with the hw but its easy and shell let you know what books to purchase on the beginning of class.
If you show up and have a heart beat you should be fine. Not organized at all which can be very frustrating at times. Class never started on time. Expect to be referred to as bubby, baby and dear. Super easy A if that's what you are looking for.
She was very unorganized, she took years to grade work, she was at least 20 minutes late to every class, and she made us color 100+ pictures for no reason. This class brought me so much stress and I can't really say i'm ready for BIO202 because she was a horrible teacher and didn't teach us much.
If you can avoid taking her, please do. I had to drop her class and lose a semester because of her difficult attitude. Besides this, shes always late to class and canceling class, so its not very convenient for your learning. She also makes you buy a lot of books. riley was the sweetest professor ive had at that school so far. yes she does often call out or is late but that is due to her personal health problems. if you can overlook that she really helps you understand anatomy in fun ways that actually help it stick if youre more of a creative thinker. this class is memorization. study on your own as well
Told us where to find the answer key at the start of the semester. Always late. Posted all homework late. Online homework contained expired links and never worked. Didn't post several quizzes, then told us she'd give them the same grades we got on other quizzes. We had no choice. Rarely responds to emails. Easy to pass, but impossible to learn.
This is a great professor who cares for the students. However, you have to do a lot of self-studying in this class, as she may cancel some classes due to her health. But if you study, she is the easiest professor to get an A in Anatomy at AVC.
Dr.Riley was great. She made learning anatomy a little more fun. She is not really available outside of class but if you need to speak to her definitely do it before or after class. Usually late to classes but still makes class fun!!

Other reviews are correct. She is very unorganized, but very sweet, funny, and she does the entire lab w you usually. Lab consists of viewings around the room and writing about them. She NEVER responds to emails. She said she would give our binders back next semester? Never got mine/never in office. Class was super easy, but she is too ill to work.
She has many cons, but her class was easy to get through. I think she is a good teacher but that poor woman is too sick to be teaching. She cancels class last min, shows up late all due to her illnesses. I think she gets lost/sidetracked when it comes to posting things online. We had to tell her and she'd fix it/extend deadlines.
If you just want easy credits, sure, but if you really need to learn, I'd take somebody else. Due to her illness, class was cancelled often and many times without notice or last minute. Can't say I'm prepared for my next bio class. But she does do her best to show that she cares about her students. She would be better taken in an online class.
Very disorganized and we have to do everything ourselves. She barely posts or updates and I'm so lost in the class. It's also embarrassing that one of her students has to do her job instead. The canvas still has files from 2023 and is hard to navigate. I've only turned in 1 assignment before she threw a midterm at us. Wish I dropped in time.
I saw her ratings for BIO 201 and thought "wow, she seems easy, what's with the negative scores?" and I quickly realized why. Currently taking her Fall 24 and if you need this class for your major (ex nursing) please choose someone else. She is all over the place and I basically have to teach myself. It's not worth it even if it's an easy grade
I thought this class would be easy to take for my prerequisites, but most of it was me teaching myself because her teaching style is really poor. Our system of taking practicals sucked. She would give the first group the time, but when the next group was tested she would tell the next group to line up, so we no time, it was very disorganized.
No consistent communication with students, poor teaching etiquette, pure waste of time. RUN and run FAST from this professor. If she's all that is available, WAIT until somebody else is available.
I can't emphasize enough how bad of a professor she is. She's kind sure but she cannot teach at all. I'm surprised no one has told her to just call it quits. She's chronically ill and out of breath a few sentences in. Her "teaching" is just telling us what to study. I actually preferred when she was absent, as the substitute would actually teach us
Do NOT even attempt to take her class. Even if you don't like Berube's or Bessinger's reviews you're gonna struggle in this class more. I'm telling you if you already enrolled for Spring you're in trouble. You will learn by yourself and struggle a LOT because she does not communicate well and her teacher skills are POOR. Do NOT even try and crash.
Riley is a passionate professor who makes anatomy fun with hands-on learning. While she has some organizational quirks, if you engage with the material and use study aids like unstuck study, you can do well in this class.
if you are a nursing major, you should NOT be taking her, but if you want an easy A and you're any other major, take her. she missed a lot, majority of our tests were online and the few that were in person never got graded (except one that was curved a bunch), lots of extra credit. she's so sweet but doesn't teach at all, literally learned nothing
This professor is completely unprofessional and invests no time in helping students. If you are eager to learn and prepare for a career/education in medicine don't bother taking her class. She does not post things when she says she will, does not grade assignments, and does not respond to emails. Do not take her if you respect your education.
