Great teacher, very easy to approach. I highly reccomend!
A very helpful and approachable professor. He is an excellent teacher, who presents the materials very systematically and clearly. A difficult course, tough, unless you love Western Civilization.

he turned my intro lecture course into a thought-provoking, discussion-based class. his essay tests were easy because i had so much to say and he presented the material so well. it was work, but it was challenging and satisfying.
He sucks as a teacher. He doesnt clerify what he exactly wants when it comes to his book review he wants us to do. He sucks hes horrible I advise to everyone not to take this man. He doesnt really care about what the student really has to say.
Very good. Kind of a difficult core course to take, but he made it decent.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. Thinks he knows it all and you cant understand a word that comes out of his mouth.
The worst professor I've ever had. Very unclear, extremely boring, and extremely inconsistent with grading. Avoid his classes at all costs.
awesome teacher. very kind on grading. thought provoking genius.
VERYYYYYY BORING!!!!!! not very fair with the grading either
so god-awfully boring. i'd never fallen asleep in class until i had him, and then it was like i had narcolepsy. his tests are hard because he gives you a term and you need to explain who/what it is, when, where, and why it's important. and he's a hard grader. take good notes and caffeine.
One of the best professors at SCSU. Go to class, take notes, ask questions, and keep his lecture guides. Do that and you'll be fine. Chrissidis will go above and beyond to help you as long as you show a genuine interest in working and succeeding.
I think he's a good teacher and interesting. If you're into history and espeically Russian history, don't listen to the critical reviews, I recommend taking his class. Take his early Rus. Hist. and you'll leave with a better understanding of Rus. Make sure to read + speak in his discussions.
I hate history, and always do bad, and knew nothing about Russia but this guy makes it intersting as long as you listen to him you'll do fine (and he's not that hard to understand)
what a good man. this class was honestly one of my favorites...its not totally easy, but you gotta do what he wants.
I loved this class. Prof is funny and entertaining. Take this class you'll have to work but it's worth it.
don't take this class! Boring class, hard grader, hard to understand, & the most boring class I have ever had. he is unfair w/grading. I withdrew from the class because it was so horrible. stay away from him & his class..AAAAHHHHH
Knows his stuff, enthusiastic. Prepare for pop quizzes.

Very knowledgeable and very easy to approach! yet in order to do well (Like a B) you must be ready to give a lot of effort because he expects a lot on his exams which are ids and essays!!!! MUST STUDY AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASS!!!
Dr. Chrissidis is one of the best professors at SCSU. His lectures gives are always interesting and he is accessible outside of class. If you want a class that you can do nothing and get an easy grade, grow up, this is college. I strongly recommend taking one of his Russian History classes. He makes the material fun and easy to understand.
Dr. Chrissidis is a wonderful professor who puts a great deal of care into his choices of class reading material and primary sources. ALWAYS available for assistance and seems to be a kind human being overall. He guides students to effective research practices. Only one paper per grad class- maybe it should be two shorter papers..
Dr. Chrissidis is a great teacher who knows his material. If you are looking for an easy class, look somewhere else. If you want to learn, this is the right place.
Funny and easy-going guy. Test are somewhat hard, all writing, but if you pay attention in class, you're good. Participation a huge plus.
Good teacher, nice guy who tries to be funny a lot. Class participation is huge. For tests.. just go over the lecture material and the primary sources and you're golden.
I took this class based on the ratings here, and I should not have. people, please evaulate your ratings, and stop giving good ratings cause u passed; although, you hated the professor. he is the WORSE.. runnnnnnnn for your life.. i'd rather go to prison for 4 years then take his class..
I truly feel sorry for those of you who did not like his class. He is a passionate teacher who goes above and beyond all others at SCSU to help his students. You'll only get out what you put in. What does that mean? If you're looking to cruise through life, he'll remind you that college isn't a vacation from the real world....it's preparation for i
He isn't that bad of a guy, strict on attendance. Assigns work to those who are absent if a lot of students aren't there in a certain class. Only 2 exams, 1 map quiz. Lectures are boring but you need to take notes in order to understand what is going on. No homework besides reading your text and sourcebooks.
There are only three exams in this class, so not alot to base your grade on. classes are easy if you read the assignments, and exams DEFINITELY need to be studied for. funny guy, made a boring subject actually tolerable. its a requirement so dont be afraid to take this guy. just study and read the assignments!
Dr.Chrissidis is a wonderful man. He isn't easy at all, in fact, quite difficult. I passed his class with a D despite a 48 average on Tests/Quizzes. If you explain your troubles to him, he will help you.
Withdraw! I had at least 20 pages of notes for the first exam and studied for a while and still got an F. He isn't fair on grading. Either you pass or you fail. He doesn't explain things when you go to him, instead tells you you're probably going to fail because you didnt do good on one exam. Theres a lot of reading and you won't do well without it

I have put a lot of effort into this class and I am only receiving a B-, if that, so it is extremely frustrating. He does not specify exactly what he wants in essays so be prepared to have your work torn apart. He is very entertaining in class, but don't let that fool you into believing he will be less difficult in grading.
He is a really REALLY hard grader, especially when it comes to essays. Don't expect this guy to help you breeze through Russian History. You have to put the effort in, and even with your best efforts you probably won't get anything above a C-.
This class is offered to everyone as a way to get out of Western Civ, not a good idea unless your a History major. As a History major I loved the class and I loved the detail he used. We looked at the social and political developments.he uses scare tactics to get people to read, but hes actually a nice guy. He gives out handouts that help w/ test.
Professor Chrissidiss will become synonymous with many four letter words should you be unlucky enough to see him as your teacher for any subject. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE excuse for a teacher, claims to be support when in reality he sets incredibly unfair standards of achievement. No matter how hard I worked, he still deemed unfit. UNREASONABLE.
I think anyone who posted decent to good remarks, are either biased history majors, or have lost their minds. This professor is out for his students, is unreasonable, and is completely unwilling to help his students in any way... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! YOUR GPA AND (not joking) QUALITY OF LIFE WILL SUFFER
HORRIFYING! Im currently taking his online Western Civ course and it is absolute torture!!!!...do NOT take this class. He does not respond to any of my e-mails and is not helpful at all. He should be fired.
Took eastern european hist with this guy, and he's prob the hardest teacher i've ever had. He is out to get you. I am a history major, I never miss a class and i take good notes. And I failed. He will assign about 100 pages of reading per class, and you better remember all of it. Don't take the class unless you need an F on your transcript.
This man really is out to get you. He's nice if you are one of those nerdy analytical types but if you're not forget it. Save yourself the time and anxiety and avoid this guy at all costs.
Great professor!! Knowledgeable and funny! However,he gives many difficult assignments, papers. Hard grader surely!!
Lots of reading, discussion, 10 minute presentation, and 20 page paper. I learned a lot. He is a master of his craft, not for the faint of heart. Funny and interesting, but students need to bring something to the table...
I have always loved history I've never refused to do the work or read like this biased report before says.. This professor failed me although I showed up for every class and stop using the restroom for the entirety of the second half of the class per his request He had it out for me from the beginning and has singlehandedly made me hate history
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE!!! i think hes a nice huy but i cant understand him plus the tests are ridic. someone said they rather do 4yrs in jail rather than take the class i rather do 4 1/2
I am currently taking his class. He is a nice person but he is a horrible teacher! He knows his information and can explain it well but does not care about his students what so ever. His tests are nearly impossible and he will not help you AT ALL if you are looking for any way to improve your grade.I study, read and go to ever class and ill fail still
Took this class with a lecture of 250 students. I would have attended class even though he doesn't take attendance, but I stopped going because it is pointless! He has an accent that no one can understand and he just stands in front of the class talking for 1 hr and 15 min. It doesn't teach anything. Tests are online and really hard. Don't take!
Took HIS100 Western Civ over the summer - online w/Prof NC. I had major concerns based on ratings on this site. He is NOT "out to get you". He does expect you to be online often, read, understand, and discuss the material. Think about events have thoughtful postings. I'm not a history buff and got a very good grade. Study his terminology handouts!
He is an excellent professor. I don't know why many students complain about him. The lectures and readings are interesting. I learnt a lot in his class! I will take him again.
Professor Chrissidis was one of the best professors I have ever had. He is well organized and keeps his students interested through every class. He isn't an easy grader but he is very fair. He is always willing to meet with his students during office hours if you are concerned or confused about anything in class. I would definitely suggest him.
I took western civ online over winter break. It was a very hard course because it was online and only 3 weeks. He is a very nice teacher and is willing to work with you. In order to do well you must login daily, read, do the discussion questions, and partcipate in discussion. STUDY THE TERM HANDOUTS!!
he was alright, i took his online class very very fast pace!!! his final exam is HARD!! has nothing to really do with the textbook at all
Very tough teacher for me because I hate history. He expects so much of his students and grades very strictly. Thankfully his handouts are extremely helpful... study these and take good notes in class. Also, if you are not prepared to write a book review of a different history book then you will not do well in this class.
Excellent Professor with passion and knowledge of his field. Certainly one of the more demanding professors here, but fair and willing to work with students who make the attempt. Do not expect to simply have to regurgitate textbook information; his classes are analytical. Highly recommend if you are looking to learn as well as receive course credit
Took his summer online class, horrible professor busted my butt! Extremely hard! When I seen his final exam I wanted to cry! He grades VERY HARD! I do not suggest him to nobody!
very hard and confusing. quiz questions can come from just about anywhere (lecture handouts, powerpoints, text book). definitely be willing to put in a lot of time and it would be best to be interested in the topic.final exam is cummulative and there is no study guide. attendance isn't mandatory but you have to go in order to pass the class.
Very difficult quizzes. Some of the lectures dont correspond with the text so although attendance is not mandatory, it kind of is. Accent id thick. Hard to understand initially. Especially it neing a lecture hall. Iwould NOT recommend this class. Professor is very knowledgable, but this class is not an easy A.
This class was hard as heck!! Definitely need to study and work hard!!
Completely unrealistic. Took this class over the summer online as one of the last general classes need to graduate. Point blank says I don't care if you work have other obligations,,etc. He ended up failing me two days before the final for accusing me of plagerizing in a response question(I put the end qoute in the wrong space.) It was 4am!AWFUL!
He's honestly the worst teacher at southern. He makes the class 10x harder than it needs to be.
Can't understand what he says, and his tests are nearly impossible. He does not use the book, he tells you to read the chapters but it has no relevance to the tests and it does not help. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
Worst teacher ever. He barely speaks English, so good luck understanding him. Attending class is basically pointless because you can't understand anything he says. There's only 6 quizzes and that makes your entire grade plus the midterm and final. If you want to fail and kill your gpa this is the class to take
Sooo sooo hard. the online course is SO difficult, SO much work & the questions you must answer are SO hard AND time consuming. Literally awful. Not even exaggerating but this class is so terrible. the info from the books is impossible to understand and way too confusing to answer the questions. DO NOT RECOMMEND. also he's very arrogant and RUDE
I went to the classes and read the book, I took a ton of notes. I am not sure where he was getting his questions, I would see them on the test and they just didn't seem familiar. If you want to protect you GPA don't take this class.
One of the best professors in SCSU. His method teachings amazing and wonderful. He uses concrete methods to teach a variety of concepts, theories and topics. Really, SCSU is so lucky to have a great scholar like him.
One of the best professors in SCSU. His method of teaching is amazing and wonderful. He uses concrete methods to teach a variety of concepts, theories and topics. No one can underestimate the prominent academic status of professor Chrissidis. Really, SCSU is so lucky to have a great scholar like him.
Professor has unrealistic expectations for his students. This is a level 100 course and he expects graduate level work and committment. People take online courses for conveneince and he started out the class by flat out saying he does not care if you work or have other committments. I had to take the day off jst to do the final exam. AWFUL
This professor genuinely doesn't care if you have any obligations outside of his class. He's rude and he firmly believes that everyone has 8+ hours a week to spend on his TWO TEXTBOOK reading regimen.
This class involves more work than a level 100 course and it is not fair. Look into taking a test with an outside company to meet university requirement.
Could not stand this class. He lectures the entire time and half of it is not even necessary for the only 2 exams he gives. He gave up lecture sheets with terms and concepts but they are really hard to follow when you try them with the book. Take someone's class, save yourself the stress.
This class is hard but Professor Chrissidis is always there to talk to you during office hours. This course requires a lot of reading and participation in discussions is very important. Take good notes because tests are basically open note. If you pay attention during class and do the reading, you'll be fine. I actually enjoyed history for once.
His class is extremely difficult for a 100 level class. The test are very hard and his lectures are hard to follow. He is rude to students and disrespectful if you do not agree with him. He admitted to the class that he does not like teaching this class and it shows. Avoid this professor if possible.
This class is fairly hard, but I really enjoyed it. The tests are very manageable if you take good notes - all tests and final exam are open note. Professor Chrissidis is very accommodating and understanding. His lectures are long, but they are easy to follow, interesting, and helpful. For the fist time, I actually enjoyed a history class.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever experienced. I was excited and looking forward to the class at first, and unfortunately, was disappointed with the result. Not only does he criticize, but he is quick to demonstrate his already obvious dominance over the material (as he is the professor).Comments to students are scornful and patronizing.
Chrissidis expects an irrational amount of dedication and work from each of his students. Not only MUST you attend class, but you MUST participate in class as it is 40% of your grade. He has a thick accent, and writes little to nothing on the board so you must pay attention to his long, boring, lectures, and decipher what's important and not.
Do the readings, take good summary notes and keep track of your participation online because it counts. Both the mid-term and final are timed and based on all the chapter readings. The questions are random - every student gets different ones. I found his feedback in the discussions to be very helpful and even more thought-provoking.
Definitely would not take again. While he shows a clear understanding of the material, he has very poor communication skills. All classes are lectures and it's next to impossible to weed out what's important and what he just feels like adding. Makes participation 25% of the grade but won't let you interrupt his "brilliant" speeches with a question.
Dr. Chrissidis is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He takes himself and his classes very seriously. Mandatory attendance, no cell phones, weekly reading, the works. A good teacher and good class if you feel like putting the effort into it, but if you don't have to I wouldn't bother.
Prof Chrissidis is a great guy but is a really hard professor. He only lectures, no sort of powerpoints, just listening and what he writes on the board. He is also hard to understand at times and goes off topic and rants about random things.
He teaches like he's teaching a graduate course and doesn't give second chances.
Prof. Chrissidis is great- really knows his stuff. Class is all lecture based with a lot of reading outside class. As long as you read and take notes during lecture you'll be fine. He answers questions well, but takes his class very seriously. Has an accent, but is very understandable. Super nice guy I'd take another of his class.
Prof. Chrissidis is an amazing teacher! Yes he has you do a lot of big assignments and participation is around 40% of your grade but he really knows his stuff. His door is always open during office hours and is willing to help you as much as he can. Sometimes his class is boring but he acknowledges up front that even he thinks it is.
Prof Chrissidis is such a good professor honestly. He really cares about his students. I took him for 200 and he straight up said: "this class is so boring but we will make the best of it." He was so funny even though the class was v boring. He really cared about our grades. He was a little hard to understand through his accent but not that much.
Amazing guy! I hate history and only took this class to graduate. He started by saying he knew no one wanted to be there. Go to every class and take good notes. Tests are really tough, notes help. See him at office hours if you're in trouble and he will help! He's really funny also. Just don't eat, have a cell, or forget your book!
Professor Chrissidis is really a good guy and quite funny. Personally, I did not think the way he taught is beneficial at all. He lectures and writes things on the board that are extremely unclear. You are graded on a few quizzes that really have little correlation to his lectures.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS! He treats students as if they are graduate students majoring in history even though this is an 100 level course. He also shows a complete disregard for respect to students. He is rude and stuck in his ways. His lectures do not relate to tests and are way to difficult. He is unapproachable and judgmental
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR IN ONLINE SETTING! First, I am a very good student. Professor Chrissidis takes this specific course WAY too seriously. He sends constant emails harshly critiquing discussion posts. Doesn't post HW ahead, so you have to do it on specific days at VERY specific times. He has a problem with adding direct quotes for some reason. BAD
Classes are super boring. I hate history to begin with and taking this class was terrible. His lectures/notes are so unclear and he just writes a bunch of words on the board and points to them. The tests are super hard and all online. If you fail the final you will fail the class no matter what your overall grade is.
For the online course, 50% is based on the discussion board, where he posts weekly questions. 50% is the final, where you need to write 3 essays in 2 hours. As long as you keep up with the workload he assigns, the class is not too bad. He does not post any lectures online so everything is based on the 2 books he assigns. Strict, tough grader.
Professor Chrissidis is the reason I want to be a professor. He is extremely passionate about his topics, and makes the class enjoyable. Classes were discussion based. I like how he doesnt teach dates and names only-he teaches from ideas so his students are able to connect topics throughout time. All-around great guy who I hope to have again!
Never take this online class because the final 50% of your grade and assignments are due at a certain time on a certain day and there are no exceptions. He expects you to be a history major and is very rude in critiques. The work load is terrible.
Professor Chrissidis is great. People who have taken his online class argue that he assigns a lot of reading, and while this would be true if it were a normal class, they dont seem to realize that it is meant to be incredibly condensed over the summer. The textbooks are very interesting and the work is manageable. Only complaint: blackboard sucks.
Took him for Russian history. Wasnt bad. Managed a B and didnt read much. Just go to class and pay attention and youll do fine on midterm and final
He's a great guy, really kind an understanding. Although, your grade is made up solely of 3 quizzes and participation in class. Readings are very very very dense. There is so much information shoved into one course which makes it very difficult. Not an easy pre req!
Chrissidis is a great professor and a hilarious one. He might seem a bit intimidating and strict at first but you'll come to see he's a nice guy and is passionate at what he teaches. He's blunt about how his class will go and highly values participation. There is quite a bit of reading and the tests are a tinge difficult but nothing is unreasonable
do not get the textbook- waste of money! Definitely purchase the sources and methods book, he uses them for class discussions. He seems scary at first but throughout the semester he lightens up. Not really a lot of homework or busy work, just reading. Three online quizzes which vary in difficulty, and he attaches lectures onto blackboard.
Here's the deal: I took his class w/ no prior knowledge. His class made me care about the subject, and even though the lectures can get lengthy, he provides plenty of music, art, etc. examples to keep you interested. Most of the grade is based on an online final and participation- study, ask questions, and you'll do just fine! Dr. C is awesome!
during class we mostly just have discussions on a source book, and you have to print your own lectures which he rarely goes over. 3 quizzes online open note, but they vary in difficulty. One online open note final (cumulative) and its terrible. No good way to organize notes ahead of time and the content is rarely discussed. I would not recommend.
The best professor ! In the begging of the course, he gives an impression of being strict and firm (it works) but he will eventually lighten up as the semester goes on. Tips to passing this course: never skip class, participate in discussions(most importantly), and take notes during lecture (definitely mentions material he includes in the quizzes)
Professor Chrissidis is very kind yet the class is heavily based on your attendance and participation or you will fail. You use both books alot, especially the source book. Class can get boring but take notes it will help for the quizzes and exams which are all online and multiple choice! If you like history this class if for you!
Not a good professor! He refuses to help his students and does very minimal lecturing/teaching. He expects students to understand class material without him having to teach it.
Took him for World history(Russia). He cares about teaching and funny but for some reason during his exams he has 2 essay exams for the whole term and he expects you to respond a certain way and if you dont, then you get a mediocre grade. Half of the class dropped the class and Im very worried about his final test. Wouldnt take again.
This professor is rediculas. Class twice a week, and it's a heavy lecture, which is hard to hear ( with a mask) during Covid. This class should be given online, the lecture notes and test ( which only include a midterm and final) are all online. Grading was not reflective of my attendance. Save your time, money, and gas. Take another elective....
Great professor.
If you have to take him, do not take it in an asynchronous format if possible. the readings are a lot and very difficult to understand without discussion. Not to mention, that the only things graded were the 3 quizzes which are each worth 200 points and then the final exam so If you don't do well on one of them, its hard to get your grade back up.
Avoid at all cost. He makes no sense and spends the entire time talking. If you don't participate you will not pass and he writs random words on the board.
Professor Chrissidis is a great professor who genuinely cares about his students and how they do. This class was not something I excelled in but he made sure I had a clear understanding so I could do my best. Only 4 graded assignments make it hard to get grades back up if you do poorly on one and lots of reading. Don't take asynchronous if possible
Professor Chrissidis is very nice, and a good professor. He gives out a lot of papers to read but I like reading so it works out! Very little homework. He is very engaging and interesting. Would recommend taking the class for credit. Interesting topics too.
I think that if you want a good grade in this class, or any of Professor Chrissidis classes, you need to be an active participant. He definitely isn't for everyone but it worked for me. He loves to give lectures that take listening to understand, everything he says comes back and it isn't hard to get an A if you put in minimum effort.
I never want to take Professor Chrissidis again. He is helpful outside of class. There is too much readings for each week. Only sends information about what you need to study through email, even then you do not get all the information that you need. His online class is focused on 3 tests and they are horrible. 10/10 do not recommend
Class was insanely lecture heavy, readings were no shorter then 10 pages.Grades ONLY on three quizzes and then final exam.He only sends out an email about when the exam is, he does not tell you what to study for the quizzes. He is very rude when asking for help, very strict about anything AI as well as Grammarly. DONT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
