He's a pretty strict teacher in terms of getting assignments in on time but if you do the work there's no reason not to get an A. He won't hesitate to dismiss class early if everyone gets through the work and is fairly personable in general.
He's a nice guy and is an overall good teacher. There are no exams or tests but there are 10 reading responses 2 pages each and 3 essays 5-8 pages each. The prompts not bad and he's an easy grader and gives great feedback. And if you do all the reponses its an easy B+. I liked him and hope to take him for ENC 1102. Try and take him if you can.
very great teacher, pretty strict on handing assignments in on time. the responses arent difficult and he's not too harsh of a grader. hes's very helpful and gives great feedback. also there's no tests or final exam. he gives you multiple chances to improve essays before the final portfolio is due. i highly reccommend him
Very good teacher, nice and friendly, but lots of work. Writing assignment due almost every day of class. No tests or quizzes and attendance is mandatory.
Pretty easy course. He is very clear about the guidelines for all of the papers. There are only three unit papers, but a lot of reading responses that have to be 2-3 pages.
It's a pretty easy class. Although, he isnt very clear when it comes to assignments and explaining things, its mostly straighforward. He's a nice guy and isnt mean or critical at all. i reccommend the class
Really nice teacher who doesn't make anyone feel stupid. A lot of group work, explains his grading well. Lots and lots of hard writing but easy and enjoyable class overall
Coming into Comp 1 was something I was not interested in the slightest for. Gardiakos took our class on an easy step by step understanding of how the English world works and behaves. a very easy class and a very helpful teacher, allows time in class to work on assignments and has great office hours. I would highly recommend him for all students.
Almost one reading response each week 10 total that are 2-3 pages long. 3 Unit papers that are 5-6,6-8,6-8 pages long MLA format. Takes class attendance every day. If you want an easy class find a class you go to once a week!
He seemed a it scary at first but I'm so glad I chose him as my very first college professor. You really learn a lot from the usual high school standard.
I took him for ENC1102. at 9am. This was a terrible idea. He doesn't explain how to do the reading responses until after it is due so you just have to hope you did it right. The papers are explained decently, but be advised there is a 12-15 page paper due at the end. I don't recommend.
Professor Gardiakos' course requires A LOT of writing. The final research project is at minimum 15 pages. As well as 3 other major papers with small reading responses due weekly until the end. Class attendance is mandatory for participation points. However he is a very fair grader and if you put effort and are a decent writer you can get an A.
Pretty easy class. You definitely have to go to every class. There is A LOT of writing and there's some kind of paper due almost every week, but there's no tests and no final but you must keep all your work. A big portion of class time is spent working with your peers, so being in class isn't too bad. He's a nice guy and isn't a hard grader.
Honestly one of my favorite professors ever. He cares about his students, work is easy and he always tries to allow students to write on things they care about. Both 1101 and 1102 were about the same. Covers a few essential topics with a major paper (usually 10 pages at the most) for each section and several 1-2 page reading responses.
I hate English and he made the class a lot more enjoyable. He does require a good amount of writing but it is pretty easy. I wrote most of my responses the morning it was due. He is a pretty easy grader. If you do the work and put in some effort the good grade isn't hard to get.
Take Mr. Gardiakos. He is by far the most enthusiastic about writing and will give extended help to anyone who asks for it. He makes a boring subject interesting. Although he assigns a lot of papers, they really will improve your writing. This is a comp class and you're not going to find one without any long papers, but his aren't too bad. Enjoyed.
The entire course was about doing a research, and he made it easy enough for us to keep track of our research. Highly recommend.
He thinks hes so smart when actually he isnt. He expects you to write a masterpiece essay every time and slightly deviating off topic (wait a minute in english??) gets almost a 0. Try someone else only take his class if you're REALLY desperate.
Gardiakos is a very good professor, gives amazing feedback and keeps classes interesting and engaging. Although the work at times is hard, it is doable. You usually have to write reading responses every two days or so (Each 2-3 pages long) and there's 3 major papers that must be 5-6 pages which he will give enough time to do so.
Great English Professor. Assigns 11 reading responses (2-3 pages long, double-spaced) -- only 10 actually count. Three major unit papers (6-8 pages long, double-spaced). Gives great feedback. Class is a bit boring since you just mostly go over the readings. Easy grader! Final is a Portfolio (100 pts), unit papers and revisions, reading responses.
Mr. Gardiakos is a great teacher. There aren't any tests. Only 10 reading responses which are 2-3 pages. If you do them you will get a 100 on them. There are 3 big papers which are about 6 pages long. He gives great feedback, you can go to his office hours and he will review your papers and tell you what to fix. Definitely take him!
Gives 11 reading responses (3 pages), drops the lowest score. Three unit papers (6-8 pages). Always available during office hours and really does help out a lot. Definately talk during the semester. Counts for a good portion of your grade at the end of the semester. If you miss more than 3 classes it impacts your grade. Would take again.
Professor Gardiakos is a really nice professor, he assigns 11 reading responses which have to be 2-3 pages long and 3 big papers that are 6-8 pages in length. He grades easy as long as you make an attempt at the essays. Down side, he assigns a lot more work than the other composition professors. No tests, but will give quizzes if no one reads.
I love this professor. I wish i could take all my classes at UCF with him. He is so funny and as long as you go to class, you are guaranteed an A. I LOVE HIM!!! TAKE HIM!!!
Had Gardiakos for both 1101-02 and he is an excellent professor. Although he dpes assign a lot of assignments, he is not a tough grader. Also provides great feedback and is always available to help students out.
Attendance is mandatory but we always have class discussions. He does have a major paper at the end but he will break it down throughout the semester to make it easier for you. I would take him again. It is a pretty easy class for an english class.
He is very clear and specific on what he wants for assignments, so just follow the rubrics and you are guaranteed to pass. He is very helpful and caring, if you need help he is willing to help. Also the most important grade is the final portfolio.
His syllabus puts more importance on filling surveys than on writing essays and research papers. I dont think I will be taking him for English II because his class pace is very disorganized...
Super easy comp 1 class. About 1-2 reading responses per week that should be 2 pages in length but they are easy to complete. Total of 3 unit papers that are 6-8 pages but gives you a lot of ideas on what to include so it makes it easy. Gets to know all of his students and is pretty funny. Overall nice guy, easy class, and easy grader.
Professor Gardiakos was one of my favorite professors i have had. He is great at explaining and gives excellent feedback. You must go to the lectures and always do the reading. There is a lot of writing in this class, but you will learn a lot. I never liked english before, but I enjoyed this class
This class is an easy A class. Professor Gardiakos one of my favorite professors ever. He gives clear directions and explains everything very well. If you attend all classes or at least let him know why you are not coming, and follow the syllabus, you'd definitely get a good grade.
He might be a lenient grader but he grades based on quantity rather than quality. A well written piece will get less points from Dr Gardiakos than a mediocre paper that just fits the criteria that he wants. He also disproportionately favors class participation which hurts at the A-/A threshold.
Gardiakos is a nice person and has a solid knowledge of how to teach. He's got a good personality so class isn't too bad. He assigns a few papers during the year but the last few build upon each other; it's not too bad. He also assigns group activities during some classes, but it's not too bad (coming from an antisocial person). Overall, he's good.
He is a really nice professor, even though I think the classes were unnecessary since all the things you have to do are for homework. Even though you have to show up to class to get participation points. He is a really fair grader
I took ENC1101 during summer B. We did 7 reading responses, he drops the lowest score. There are three unit papers that have to be revised for a final portfolio toward the end. Reading responses at least 3 pages. Unit papers at least 6 pages. He lets you out of class early often and he's a pretty decent grader. He's amazing
He is a very easy grader. Do all the work and you will pass with an A.
Professor Gardiakos is the best professor I have ever had! He is really caring and he wants to help us as much as possible. Enough time ti understand the topic, enough office hours to ask questions and etc. I would definitely take his class again.
Hes amazing and an easy grader
Greta professor, helped me as an international student to better understand readings and papers I had to do for a class. Gave me a lot of good feedback when I went to office hours.
Amazing professor! Really interesting lectures, but you need to read the book to participate in lectures and write paper reviews. Three main papers, all of them extremely interesting and Pr. Gardiakos helps you as much as he can with writing them. Totally take the professor, especially if you like to write!
I am not the best at writing papers, but I have grown so much as a writer in this class. Highly suggest Prof Gardiakos. He is a fair grader. He holds lots of office hours to review papers before the due date. He will tell you what to correct and how to earn a better grade. The final is revising the three main papers written throughout the semester
Super nice and chill. There were 3 papers and we had to read every week. We had to write 3 page reading responses maybe every 2 weeks. Class isnt difficult if you show up and put the work in
Gardiakos is amazing. Truly cares about the success of his students. Hes extremely easy going and gives great feedback to make sure you do well on papers. Take his class and you will excell.
Just Read the articles and write the papers, man. Do the work and you'll get the grades.
read and go to class! really nice and its not a difficult class if you put the work in
Awesome professor, Gardiakos is so caring and is so willing to help all the time! He has a lot of assignments but he is not at all a harsh grader. Attendance is mandatory but it does help your grade! He is very clear with what he wants from his papers and gives you a lot of time to work on them! I loved taking ENC with him
Mr. G is the absolute GOAT, if you want a teacher you can joke with and have a good time with while getting taught very well my man, gardiakos, is who you want.
He is a very tough grader on the weekly assignments, but the advice he gives you allows you to do better the next time! Plus, he drops the lowest weekly assignment grade. The end of semester research paper is difficult to complete, but it isn't impossible as long as you put the work into it.
I really liked being in his class. He was friendly, he made me feel comfortable during office hours, and he gave good feedback whenever I needed to change something. There were group projects in class, but just participation grades. His class helped me be more confident about public speaking.
Unless you want to drown in writing and useless research the entire semester, do not take him. He is extremely homework heavy and expects huge writing assignments every week. He gives a lot of nonsense busy work and papers that are 6+ pages long due one to two weeks apart. I would not recommend him to anyone.
ENC 1102 is supposed to be a Gen-Ed. Gardiakos goes out of his way to create more and more work. Most if not all of assignments given, are useless and take up much of a student's time. Gardiakos is not a considerate professor and does not take into account that ENC 1102 is not the only class a student takes. Definitely a mediocre professor at best.
Professor Gardiakos is great at being a professor that wants you to use more than just the basic rubric and expand what you know about writing. I went into the class thinking I need to write extensive papers in a format but he gives a breath of fresh air as you are given a lot of opportunities to write about what you want. You do write alot though.
Truly a gem of a professor. I never felt in the dark about any assignment. He was extremely specific about everything, and went the extra mile to get time with each student in order to get them the help that they needed. He even reached out to me to extend office hours after learning about my situation. A true gem.
Professor Gardiakos is a great professor and he definitely cares about your success. Just do the work and put in the effort and you will have an A. Get ready to write.
This prof gave LOTS of homework, so if you take him be prepped to write! We had to do a whole research paper (15-18 pgs), Genre analysis and intertextuality paper,3 reading responses, and more discussions each week.... Don't buy Easy Writer or Naming What We Know if you come to the lectures he explains everything. BUT he was an easy grader!
Professor Gardiakos was a great professor and I had him online due to COVID. He is very accommodating and I set up one on one meetings with him and it was great. I personally struggle with writing and was very anxious at first when I heard there was a 15 page final but I passed with a very high A . I feel like this class really helped my writing.
Mr. Gardiakos is Awesome. He is very assessable and gives great feedback if you reach out. He is more caring and understanding than most professors that I have had thus far and truly cares about his students doing their best on every assignment. I cannot recommend taking his classes more as he is one of the best instructors at UCF in my eyes.
I am an international student so the class was twice as hard for me. I was not ready to write so many papers and even the whole research in the end. Nevertheless, I overcame my fears and Gardiakos helped me a lot with that challenge.
He is a great professor that always comes prepared to teach you. There's not a day in that class where I didn't learn anything. He also is extremely helpful. Even though this was a fast paced class, I was used to it due to my rigorous high school class. Meaning that if you aren't used to rigorous courses, I would take this in the fall semester.
Gardiakos was a solid professor for a very paper heavy class. However he is more than willing to give feedback and detailed comments on drafts for papers, as well as the looming research paper. You won't be blown away, but he's damn solid.
He makes you work for your grade and there are not that many assignments. You have 3 main papers and 3 smaller ones. Overall, great professor and truly cares about your experience and progress in the class.
Dr. Gardiakos is very helpful and sweet. You read quite a bit, but he explains the readings further in class. The class's papers are 3 reading responses (3 pages min) and 3 unit papers (6 pages min). The final for the class is an ePortfolio, and it is something we prepare for at the start of the course. TIP: Download the book PDFs, don't buy them!
I had Professor Gardiakos last semester. Classes were not mandatory to attend and the readings weren't necessary. I excelled on my papers and assignments and got As on all the essays and 100 on the final ePortfolio. I even turned in assignments late and it barely affected my grade. Basically, put effort in and do your papers and you will get an A.
Lectures are amazing and great two way communication between both you and the professor as well as peers.
This is by far my favorite professor at UCF so far, and I would highly suggest taking his class. There is a lot of writing which is to be expected but he lets you write about topics you care about. It's very obvious that he cares a lot about his students, and he is extremely accessible outside of class and gives clear feedback for improvement.
Professor Gardiakos really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His assignments allowed students to understand the concepts taught in class. Most of them centered around the final research project due at the end of the semester. He helps you at every step and is quite lenient when it comes to late assignments.
Great prof. The class itself is ok, the subject is literally writing about writing. But if you have to take it, take this professor. He truly cares about his students and gives good feedback. His late penalties aren't too bad. It's a medium amount of writing, not too much honestly.
I took this class as honors, and it was fairly simple to get a good grade and pass. There are weekly assignments due in class, and lectures where you have discussions with other students. He gives good advice unique to everyone's issues and is willing to work one-on-one to assist with writing projects.
Professor Gardiakos cares about his students and does assign multiple writing assignments, but does allow you to resubmit them for a better grade and the assignments do help improve your ability to write and research. I highly recommend this professor!!!
The professor is extremely caring and wants to see you improve as both a writer and researcher, offering multiple ways to improve your papers before your final submission. I saw my writing and researching abilities improve exponentially, because of this class.
Really a great professor his explanation of what he wants is clear and while some of the projects are a little long it is very doable and I would say defiantly possible for anyone. There are quite a few readings but none ever felt like the didn't matter and weren't boring readings.
Overall, he was a really good teacher and cared about your learning experience. He grades very easily and the structure of the class was easy to follow, everything to do was known ahead of time. During class, there is a lot of small group discussions and at the end of each week, he grades on participation, but its relaxed. Would take again.
Tough class but very fair. Gardiakos was willing to work with me on numerous occasions. My grade in the class is entirely on me and I can not hold him responsible for any of it. Great professor.
A really awesome professor. The essay assignments are tough but they're fair. The professor is extremely willing to work with students, office hours were very helpful for getting a better understanding of something confusing. He also gives amazing feedback which is great for both writing future assignments and revising the previous ones.
He's a very nice guy! He's very caring and allows you to resubmit assignments for a better grade. He clearly wants his students to succeed in the course and get better at writing.
Professor Gardiakos was a very nice professor and he gives a lot of great feedback on assignments! Sometimes I felt as though some comments were a tad nit-picky, but that just gave me more motivation to push myself further as a writer. The final research paper is 15+ pages long but the assignments leading up to it all help to make it a bit easier.
Professor Gardiakos is a great professor. He cares a lot about his students and will provide you with the help and feedback you need to succeed. He does expect a lot of writing from his students. At the end, there is a 15-page research project. He spaces everything out enough so it's not that bad. Would highly recommend this professor.
Professor Gardiakos allows you to resubmit most assignments to get a better grade and he offers 5 points of easy extra credit at the end of the semester that involves listening to a podcast and writing a short paper on it. Most of the assignments lead up to the 15-page research paper but he gives you the steps needed to do well on it.
The grading criteria were clear and reasonable. The professor summarized key points from the required readings in helpful slideshows. He offered good feedback and was available many times to help. The spacing of assignments did get a bit cluttered at times though.
The only reason I got a B- is because I didn't invest any of my time in this class and submitted everything the last week of classes. I think that's all you need to know about him and his flexibility.
Amazing professor! He always gives detailed feedback on your work and has opportunities to resubmit for a better grade. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed, and he always gives clear instruction on what to write for assignments. 100% recommend.
WOW. I don't have enough room here to put how amazing he is. I took this class Summer A online so it was VERY fast-paced. If you plan and organize you will be fine. He gives an essay of feedback per assignment and grades within 24 hours. Two big projects in the end that you need to set multiple hours aside is what makes the course "hard".
Incredible professor, by every possible metric. If you get an opportunity to take one of his classes, you should do it. There really isn't enough space to write about how amazing he is here. Class discussions were fun and engaging, classes focus more on discussion than on lectures.
Took ENC4416 in summer, fast-paced with 3 major assignments. Lots of great readings & audio discussions. Perfect for business & creative majors. The professor allows creative approaches but expects strong analysis. Not a tough grader, but grading criteria are very specific. Highly recommend!
Nikolas was one of, if not the best, professors I've had! This was a 6-week class, with a good amount of work even with a job (I worked 20-30 hours a week). You can tell how much he cares about this class with his in-depth feedback and quick responses. I had a personal issue and let him know, and he was very kind, which I was grateful for.
