This guy is awesome. Has a heavy accent but very understandable. Class is based on tests and hwk is mandatory. Tests are based off the hwk no suprises. Hes really helpful. Easy A. Highly recommended
Funny guy. He tells you exactly what will be on the test. His review guides are very helpful. His accent makes it hard to understand him at times but overall he is always very helpful!
Tells you exactly what will be on the test. Offers extra credit before every test. Easy class
Very good Professor. easy exams. he gives out a review before each exam and the test will be almost similar to it. very help full, just ask him. i defenatly recommend him.
Really funny guy. Offers 10% extra credit for every test if you do the study guide!
The work is easy, however, his teaching skills are lacking. He skips steps while explaining the work. Very sloppy on the board. Moves fast through everything. I wouldnt take him. I havent been able to understand anything he teaches. I use the CD in the back of the book. If you can help it get a different professor.
Lavrov is the man. Homework isn't mandatory and counts as extra credit toward tests. Provides study guide for tests and final. No midterm. Drops lowest test and replaces it with final. I don't know how he even factors attendance into the class. I hate math but I couldn't imagine it being easier than this teacher. Sometimes hard to understand -Russi
Spent the class racing through examples from the book. Gave practice exams before the test, but not solutions. I had good attendance, but I still never felt like I learned anything. I will admit that diff-q is probably my worst subject along with calc-II.
Exams were much harder than any of the hw or examples the prof went through. Lavrov is a funny & nice guy but he skims too quickly during class & never tries to go through each step thoroughly. Then again I took during the summer perhaps things would be different in the fall or winter.
He is a good teacher. Just do the homework and the practice test and you will do good. Questions in practice are pretty similar to the one in test. He sometimes makes mistakes grading tests, double check and talk to him he will give you your point. Little harsh grader. I did all the homework and practice exams and i ended up with a good grade
Very Tough, tests nothing like the homework; He gives un-neccesarily tough integrals on tests.
Dr. Lavrov is a great Calculus III teacher. He will let you know everything that is expected, so that your grade is entirely up to you. He is always available to help you through things you do not understand, and you will get some extra credit for homework, if you choose to do it. Highly recommended for Calculus!
Lavrov has a good sense of humor. Heavy accent but manageable to understand. Examples straight from the book. Exams are a bit tricky but u doable. Extra Credit for homework. If you don't study, you will fail. STUDY. Nice teacher but wouldn't recommend him but he's not a bad choice compared to others.
Funny Prof, He's hard to understand at times but gives plenty of extra credit
Decent teacher, hard to understand. His tests would be easy, if given enough time, but he puts way more on the test than the amount of time you get.
This dude is awesome, I will be taking as many MATH courses as I can with him.
He's a very difficult grader in my opinion. Many cases he doesn't give much credit for work on incorrect answers on tests. He gives a very small amount of extra credit (5pts for 100pt tests) toward the tests for homework which can be turned in at the start of each test. Wouldn't recommend to those who are weak in math like myself. Russian accent.
don't take him. simply put, offers very little partial credit on exams, but does give 5 pts extra credit for homework. tests are difficult and he wont help you out if you find them difficult and ask him for help.
He's an alright professor and a great and funny guy. But the problem is that he doesn't offer much partial credit on tests, which are comprised of only 6 questions, with each being worth 17 points. At any rate, I averaged a 67% on the tests but still managed to somehow get a B. He's okay if you don't mind getting average grades.
I really liked him as a teacher! His accent was a little difficult to understand at first but after a week or so it was not a problem. He is a very reasonable grader too.
Unreasonable, terrible professor. Was so lost after the first few weeks that I had to drop the class. He just jumps right in and doesn't explain anything and expects you to know everything. Really hard tests as well. Would strongly recommend to NOT take him at least for calc II.
His accent was very difficult to understand. He did not know how to answer any questions because of the language barrier! His tests weren't too bad but the final was very difficult! Wouldn't really recommend.
Basically, He is a PHENOMENAL teacher. He has a tough accent which you get over in a couple weeks, and the grading is pretty straight forward. You get to use notecards, you review topics the day before the exam, you get a review for the final, and he is a very helpful guy. It did require me to DO YOUR HOMEWORK and study hard.I got an A though.
You get over his accent quickly. He's not too hard of a grader, especially during the summer. I'd definitely recommend him. He doesn't always understand the questions students ask during class, so it may seem like he'll ramble a bit, but if you ask in office hours, you'll get a better answer. Very approachable and won't talk down to you.
Huge language barrier. Unable to answer questions. His notes made no sense, he jumped from one example to another switching back and forth. You end up teaching yourself. Most failed or dropped while they had the chance. DO NOT RECOMMEND. If you have no choice get a tutor from the learning center immediately.
Lavrov is the absolute man, I love him. I was very intimidated at first because he seems serious and is to an extent. However, he's HILARIOUS, I laughed everyday. His accent is not hard to understand at all, and he gives as many examples as needed. Kind of harsh grader, but I failed the first test and pulled an A-. Can't wait to take 217 with him!
I thought he was a good teacher. Tests were hard, but the content was reasonable and appropriate; no surprises. I would recommend!
He does not teach, just writes the examples in the book on the board (thanks man, I can read). If you can figure out the material yourself his tests are not difficult and he is a nice guy if you talk to him.
He is the best teacher ever. Very nice and helpful professor.
Excellent professor. Russian born, so obviously has an accent, but it is very easy to get over. His English is not bad at all. Homework is due before each exam. Exams are pretty difficult, but if you do ALL the homework you really shouldn't have any problems on the exams. I would definitely recommend him for any math class especially Diff EQ.
Very smart guy, but can't explain that good. Originally he was an engineer, but quit Ford and now he's teaching. If your going to take Calc 2 or higher, then don't take him because you have to know what your doing. First didn't understand him because of his thick Russian accent, but after awhile you get use to it. Very nice guy.
This guy is awesome. He respects students who are serious and respectful towards him. He has a sense of humor and is always willing to help you. Russian accent but it doesn't diminish his teaching ability.
Great professor. Homework is due before every exam so you have time. He's honest about the difficulty of the test. He's Russian, so he has an accent, but his english is great. He's very good at explaining and is willing to help you. Definitely recommend. Pay attention, take notes, do the homework and you'll do great.
Homework is from the book, not graded for correctness only completion. 1 mathematica group project, it's pretty easy, don't sweat it. If you see something graded really badly you can ask him about it and he'll re-examine it, I've gotten points back before. He has an extra 5% bonus on every exam. his exam reviews are EXCELLENT preparation.
He is by far one of the best professors Ive ever had. Hes very open to questions and is always available for help. Tests are not bad if you pay attention in class, take notes, do your homework, and study hard. He gives a very good review for almost every test, including the final. I would definitely take him again!
Russian, has an accent, but youll eventually get used to it. His exams are super easy. Homework is assigned from the book and is due before every exam and its worth 10 points. Hes not that lenient with his grading, he will give u what you get, nothing more, nothing less.
I got an A in organic chemistry and was barely pushing a C in his Calc 2 class. This guy is hard to follow and just writes the examples from the book up on the board. I don't understand how he is still allowed to teach with those teaching methods. Just take this class with a different prof. If you're stuck with him GOOD LUCK!
Pretty good professor, the ones who work hard will do good. Tests are challenging and REALLY make you think.
He makes you work hard for you grade, however, he really likes to see improvement, and he is actually very knowledgeable and ties in funny real life examples. His accent is manageable, and he does give partial credit. Make sure you do the work and you will do well, of you do well on the final it really helps to overshadow poor performance before.
Awesome teacher
He was a great professor. He does have an accent but it is not distracting in the slightest, at least for me. His exams are challenging but they are not impossible. He tries to answer all questions thoroughly. Gives partial credit on exams and is willing to help you improve.
Wisest teacher I've ever had. Very funny and easy class. You have to work hard but he doesn't care about your homework. Thankfully he doesn't require webwork which makes the class so much more useful. He assigns problems for you to understand and makes the tests very similar to homework problems. Study and you'll pass.
Dr. Lavrov is one of the best professors I've ever taken. Do not regret taking him at all. Nice guy, funny at times, does have an accent but it's not too bad. Is VERY liberal and fair with his grading. Work hard and you'll get an A.
This was my third time taking 116 and honestly, Lavrov is my favorite professor of the others I've taken. He is funny and goes into fine detail into his lecture, I've never understood calc better. Best thing about him is that he designs his test not to be explicitly difficult, but to test your knowledge. If you know the concepts you will pass.
It was my 2nd time taking Calc II and math is not my subject. Prof. Lavrov is one of those rare professors that you're lucky to get at least once in your college career and he does not enjoy failing students. I'm not going to lie, I studied hard to pass and I failed 2 exams but the final and hw saved my grade. Do not hesitate to take him.
Great professor. Give this man a raise.
Really good at explaining and tests were not hard for the most part
Prof. Lavrov is the best math professor at the school. He is entertaining and really explains things very well and doesnt make things harder than they need to be like most professors. He teaches better than almost anyone you will find online so take advantage of going to his lectures and really pay attention. You wont regret it. Hes the best.
Lavrov is a very reasonable professor. He doesn't try to confuse the students and always makes sure everything is easy but also tests our learning. Amazing professor who relies on feedback and encourages student learning. Take him if possible, he will make sure you learn and get a good grade (just put in a little effort!).
Great professor. Teaches mostly by doing examples on the board. Only graded by 3 exams (all 33%) but gives a bonus 5% on first 2 exams for doing HW. Never needed to go to office hours because he explains well in class but he was always available right after class. Do the homework and the exams are a piece of cake
Worst professor I ever had. I did very well on my last two math courses. Decided to take him for CAL3 from seeing these good ratings. He might be nice to calc1,2,DFQ students, but he is straight brutal with the calc 3 kids. Either EVERY SINGLE thing is correct, or you get very little partial points. Effort means nothing. lectures useless. Avoid.
Lavrov is somewhat reasonable with his tests, his lectures arent that helpful and he does add some tricky questions to his exams. You have to study. Hes ok. You can get by with him.
Although he is a nice person, he is a horrible teacher. I took him for Calc 2 and all he would do was stand in front of the board and do examples, never really explained WHAT he's doing. I ended up dropping the class because of bad it was Unless you already know Calc 2 content 100% or are willing to teach yourself everything, do NOT take this class
One of my favorite professors of all time. He was very clear on what was going to be on each exam. Four exams and we were told beforehand what type of questions were going to be on the exam. It is a tough grader, so you just have to be careful with small mistakes you may make on the exam. Also, the final will replace lowest exam grade, and quizzes
Lavrov is very reasonable, study well and you'll do well it really isnt that bad. He replaces your lowest grade with the final, and actually gave us 5 percent ec for doing course evals. He is nice, willing to help, and tests aren't hard at all but they require attention and work and if you understand the concepts your fine. Ill take him for calc 2.
He has a strong Russian accent but if you can get passed that he is a good teacher. You defiantly need to pay attention and take notes to do well. He gives test reviews but I would recommend doing more than just the review to prep, everything on the test will have been covered in class but is not guarantied to be on the review.
He tells you exactly what kind of problems will be on the tests, no surprises there. The lectures are a bit hard to follow, it wouldn't hurt to skim the textbook before class. Class was graded on 540 points (100 for each test, 10 for each homework set, 100 for the final) the final replaces your lowest score. Tough professor but generous grader.
Lavrov is a very reasonable professor and he tells you EXACTLY what is on the tests and quizes. no surprise there. for the final he literally gave us the questions, like " find derivative" but no formula. so you knew the questions and he gives you a formula sheet you get to make yourself, for quizes too. His lectures are very in depth and good
Dr. Lavrov does have a Russian accent, so it might take some time to get used to. He's not that best at teaching, but not terrible, though there's room for improvement. The class itself is fairly rough; there aren't a lot of homework problems, but then the tests are much more challenging. He does tell you exactly what's on the test, so it does help
He's a great professor imo; humorous, caring, and understanding. Although he has a very strong Russian accent, it doesn't prevent him to get his words across. You have to be very attentive and prepared for the quizzes and tests by doing the homework and class practice problems. Generous at grading. Extra credits are almost free, no extra work.
caring and understanding
Be ready for hard tests but overall its not that bad
I really am happy I got him for Calc 2. His lectures arent great but the quizzes and exams are manageable if you do the homework problems. If you are okay with having to learn some of the stuff on your own, then you should take him because he isnt one of those professors that enjoy watching their students struggle
With calc 2, the professor makes or breaks the class. Going into Lavrov's class, everyone was worried because of his accent. Lavrov was very clear about what was gonna be on his exams/quizzes. If you do the homework, you'll be ok. Don't be afraid to go to his office hours! Like another review said, he doesn't enjoy making students suffer!!
I can't recommend Dr. Lavrov enough. I was a bit intimidated at first, but it was soon made clear to us that he cared about the class. Test topics are made clear well in advance. If you turn your test in early he might read it for you and tell you if you got something wrong. Homework is graded by participation. Dr. Lavrov wants you to succeed.
the main thing that matters is to do well in the tests, and all of the tests will be coming from the homework. the homework is a lot but do it and refer to the syllabus he provides and you will excel in the tests. to score well in the tests, FOLLOW WHAT HE SAYS IN CLASS, if you follow the textbook instead, he will cut marks.
Very understanding and lenient with his grading. His accent was a bit tough to get used to, but fine once you get accustomed to it. His classes are pretty much all him doing practice problems on the board.
Lectures were helpful as he taught the concepts then immediately went into practice problems; homework is from the textbook and exams use very similar problems; grading is four homework assignments and four exams including the final; was very direct when teaching and didn't teach anything extra; very good professor, ensure you understand the HW!
Says hes lenient but is in fact a v tough grader, hes lenient WHEN you take the quizzes and tests but is a hard grader after you turn in your paper, very all or nothing kind of guy. Not lots of homework but lots of work in the homework. Quizzes are usually 1-3 questions and tests are usually 6-9 questions haha so make sure you get em right.
His Russian accent is very hard to understand sometimes but he's such a sweet guy. I was close to failing and I went to his office hours in the middle of the semester and he ave me so many options on what to do. He is very understanding and gives opportunities to catch up if you're behind. Would definitely take him again.
He is very helpful and lenient. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He allows retakes on pretty much everything for up to full credit and will help you. As long as you show effort he will be helpful and courteous. He likes to tell russian jokes and is funny. He has a russian accent but it is very understandable and you will get used to it right away.
He is a caring professor and understanding. Going to Lecture is important you will be able to pass it. Not going will hurt you. Gives extra credit on exams. Allows note sheet on tests. His Russian accent is funny.
He is amazing professor take him
He is amazing professor and he is accessible outside class. He only gives textbook hw no webwork. There is bonus problems on exam for extra credit
1. Nice guy who is very wise 2. Pretty Difficult Tests (3 in total) 3. Hard quizzes (5 in total) 4. Office hours is a must (Extra credit to make up lost points) 5. No Midterm but there is a Final (Study guide is provided) 6. Allows cheat sheet + calculator 7. Homework are somewhat long (3 in total) 8. "Life is good; good life is bad."
This professor is amazing caring and attend class he gives extra credit for attendance. He only gives textbook hw and gives extension if needed.
This professor is amazing. He cares for his students and office hours are must and he gives extensions on hw
He cares about his students and sometimes will give extra credit assignment in class activity and puts it towards your test grade
I had a hard time keeping up with his lectures as there was no real explanation of what we were learning and how to apply it to different problems. His grading system also lacks a cushion, only having four homeworks and four exams, including the final. If you enjoyed professors like Dr. Philips or Dr. Nasralah, Lavrov isn't for you.
I took his Math 115 class and the main thing I think that student have problem with him is that he expects students to know precalculus formulas and concepts like making graphs for functions, solving algebra, factorization, equations of conic sections, trigonometry and slope. If you want an A+ in his class just keep up-to-date with homework.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESOR!! this guy spends all lecture just scribbling problems on the chalkboard AND DOES NOT EXPLAINN! like no joke doesnt take the time to actually go through problems or anything he just excepts us to know it. the exams basically make up ur whole grade and keep in mind that whatever work youve done, will be no help on the exam
His lectures are great and prepare you well for the test. He offers quiz retakes for full credit.
The class was very hard all the class is graded on is tests and quizes and couple homework assignments. Its not worth all the stress of taking this professor just to fail. I barely understood him as he has a very strong Russian accent.
Very heard and stressful, he's genuinely not a bad guy he offers retakes on all quizzes and sometimes tests if the avg is low, but 5 quizzes 3 tests being almost the whole grade, each quiz being 2 questions and each test being 8 questions is just too much. Mess up on a few questions and your whole grade is gone. Would not recommend.
Just don't
