HE IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT BUT HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN A COMPLICATED WAY, YOU ARE BETTER OFF LEARNING IT FROM THE BOOK. HIS TESTS ARE ONLY 15 QUESTIONS LONG, BUT HE WILL HELP YOU IF YOU ASK HIM FOR HELP. NICE GUY.
Ok. You will learn more from the book than from him. He will try to explain anything you ask but takes a hard way to do it. He also doesn't allow calculators on tests. Nice Guy but abit out of place teaching.
If you try to pay attention to his lectures you will just get confused. He doesn't take anything out of the book.
mann this teacher should work out problems he doesnt work them out step by step but rather just blurts the whole problem on the board and just talks and shakes his damm head
he is a horrible teacher i dont even know how he got a job doing this he expects you to know everything and doesnt show his work. he just does the problem and says here is the answer does all of he work in his head. your better of teaching your self.
College Algebra Doesn't really teach anything he expects you to know... if you did well in High School Algebra II you will be fine, it is just review. If you didn't I would suggest you pick a different prof or this class will be hard
This is the worst math class you could ever sign up for. DON'T DO IT!!!!!! He only has 3 test but if you mess up on one then your F*****. His homework is only worth 10%, but he does'nt teach good at all.
I never understood any of his lectures. I would go home and have to teach myself with the book which was easy at first but got extremely hard. Unless you allready have a grasp of the material I recommend you take someone else.
i thought his class was pretty easy. he doesnt hold hands like they do in high school but this is college people.
Very unhelpful, very unclear, you can never tell what hes saying, he works out his problems in the most complicated way, and doesn't listen to his students when asked a Q, just tells you to do the homework!
this guy doesn't know how to speak. he's goes through stuff without explaining talks low witha thick accent. don;t take algebra with him
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. not worth going to class unless you're turning in your homework..he just shows you the problems on the board and doesn't tell you how he got the answers. if it wasn't for his hotness i dont know what i would do.
he's extremely boring and does not take the time to explain what he's talking about. no elaboration or hints. he thinks because he's such a high level prof., we should be up at his level. pft.
He is a terrible teacher. i find myself having to go through each section and teach myself what is going on. he picks and chooses what to show us on his overhead, and then tells us to do all the odd problems. if u can, back out now. otherwise, i am very sorry you have to deal with him.
CANT SPEAK ENGLISH OR EXPLAIN ANYTHING CLEARLY!
he just doesnt get it. i should have dropped the class. the work load is fine but i'm teaching myself. so far i'm just an ok teacher. math has never been my forte either.
Don't waste you money/time with this man. I don't have a ****ing clue what's going on in that class.
he has seniority with the school...so regardless of anything... you can't beat him. JUST DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS
this professor was really hard to understand because of his accent, and he really doesn't care if you do well or not, its not his problem, he is very unhelpful!
if you've never been good at math DON'T TAKE HIM. if you didn't do well in high school math courses, you're going to fail his class. the only reason i'm passing is because it's review of my H.S. math classes and i did really well in them. his teaching method sux and he doesnt explain things clearly
He is the worst professor I've ever had, he just puts solved problems on the overhead and you copy them down. Only 15 problems on the two exams he gives!

Horrible, blows ass.....cant understand him....and you cant read his handwriting
Hes probably the worst teacher/professor I have ever taken. He cant explain himself very well. Class is a torcher since almost the complete class cant understand him or ever know whats going on. This class requires you to teach yourself. Thats what i ended up doing. I dont reccomend at all.
DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS. This guy is a very bad teacher that needs to get some work done at teaching workshops. Basicly, I think he should retire and do something else. He is of no help to his students, and you can't even understand his ****poor english
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS... IT WILL ONLY DROP YOUR GPA REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE AN A STUDENT. HE RAMBLES ON ABOUT A WORKED OUT PROBLEMS.
I always dreaded this class. I mean the prof knows his**** but he automatically expects everyone else to know it. I hate math so maybe that's just me but I never have any luck with math teachers period.
HE IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER. YOU BASICLY HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF OR ALREADY KNOW THE INFORMATION. THE INFORMATION ISN'T THAT HARD TO UNDERSTAND THOUGH. HE WILL NOT HELP YOU. HE ALWAYS ANSWERS A DIFFERENT QUESTION THAN WHAT YOU ASK. HIS HANDWRITING SCUKS AND SO DOES HIS ENGLISH.
Do not sign up for this class. This professor is so full of himself he could burst at anytime. He has a tremendous aptitude for mathematics, and expects you to have the same grasp of the material that he does. His English leaves a lot to be desired. Calculators are strictly prohibited on tests.
15 question tests and easy finals if you know your math.. if you dont know your math dont take this course. he expects you to know it all already.. if ur looking for easy A, short tests, and are good at math take him... other then that dont take him......
This professor SUCKS..........He does not help anyone, if you ask a question he makes you feel like you're stupid and should know the answer. 1/2 the class has dropped because of his attitude and non professionalism. I have to retake this with a real Math Professor, not an idiot.
HORRIBLE! Very unhelpful and unclear.
This Professor is terrible, he talkes over your head and makes his students feel like idiots. I think he needs to stick to his own studies and stop trying to teach others. Being a great intellect doesn't always translate into being a good teacher!
I'll agree with everyone else. This class SUCKS! He expects you to already know the material, if we did why the hell would we be taking the class? No calculators...no help what so ever. All it did for me was drop my GPA!
This guy is horrible! Not helpful at all and if you ask questions he makes you feel like a complete idiot. He doesn't teach. He copies notes from the book and then speed reads them off of the projector. Anything that I learned about precal was from the math lab tutors.
Class with this man is really hard to follow. Dr. Salingaros really knows his math, but he doesn't explain well. Don't take this course with Salingaros unless you already know the material or are a good self-teacher/fast learner. If so, the exams are short and few and multiple choice.
If there was something I didn't remember, his explanations didn't help. I would have to read the book to understand. He is very smart, but he doesnt know how to explain how he got answers. He just says what he is writing. "I got 2 plus 2 equals 4" how? "Because I wrote 2 plus 2 and it equals 4"
He is the worst professor I've ever had, he treats people like crap, calls them stupid and when you ask a question, puts you down in front of the whole class, I have to retake this again in the summer because of him, he taught nothing at all.......no wonder the Architecture dept. threw him out......
horrible teacher, unhelpful, unclear, bad attitude toward students, everything i learned in this class, i learned on my own. DO NOT take classes from this man.
good and fair teacher..
not too terribly helpful to the students that had questions, was easy for me because it just was for me, those that didn't understand failed miserably though because he wouldn't explain
Doesn't explain any of the material well. The whole semester consists of you reading all the material yourself and learning it yourselve because he can't explain anything. He simply writes something on the projector and expects you to understand it.
This guy rocks. You are in college folks. Guess what, there is such a thing as a stupid question, and he will let you know. Don't waist class time with college algebra questions. Take good notes, and do your homework and you will do fine.
Not great a explaining things, but if read book and do problems at the end of the chapter you will be fine. Tests are multiple choice!
he doesnt teach well, doesnt explain himself clearly doesnt go through process of problem just puts them up expects ppl. to know what to do out of the blue. explains while copying the example, have to write fast. is either write or pay attention which is hard to understand because of accent. ALSO very BORINg class
Salingaros is a really smart man, however he is a REALLY bad teacher. His lectures are unclear-and he is constantly making math mistakes during lectures. Also, he talks super fast-on top of a thick accent. His tests although multiple choice-dont equally cover the material. 3 exams, Final=40%, HW: 1/wk.
This teacher can't explain any of the material he is required to. His accent will throw you off and his lectures are extremely borry. He expects you to know all the material before you even take the course and his exams are worth to much. The final exam is worth 40%!
DO NOT TAKE IT!!! do any other class is better than this one! he doesn't explain the material well enough, has a heavy accent, is often rude, not very helpful in answering questions, really boring lectures.
Not that great of a prof, kind of arrogant when you ask questions - he'd act like you're an idiot for asking. I personally can't stand profs that do that. I sat up close, so I think his eyebrows may have distracted me a little too - bushiest I've ever seen!
If you want to skip class and teach yourself, then this is an ok class. But he doesn't explain anything, all you do in class is copy down notes from an overhead and then there are 3 tests(MC) with only 15 questions each! And the final 30 worth most of your grade. Tests are ok, but if you miss a few you fail!
Dr. Salingaros is very unclear within his lessons. He is very sarcastic and is not very positive with the students.
All the class is is copying notes from the overhead, he doesn't explain what is going on and doesn't give students a chance to figure out what he was doing. He does not allow calculators. There is no homework, just WebCt quizzes. If you miss too many questions on the exams you will fail, and everything he covers is not on the exams.
walkin and put problem on the ovwerhead belittles you if you ask questions
had problems already worked out before class and would only say what he already wrote. no calculators, 3 15 question tests, and would have stuff not covered in class on the test. has smart remarks about questions asked in class.
hes a HORRIBLE teacher.... expects you to know everything... not allowed to use calculators as everythign is (and i quote) "rough approximations" ........ i hated that class....
Pros: Multiple choice MATH TESTS. Has there ever been a greater pro, EVER?! If you pay attention, take _good_ notes, and do the homework / quizzes, you should get an A. The final was 30 questions, multiple choice (and no "Answer not here" choices). He has a peculiar personality, but there's nothing malicious about him.
Hes an outgoing guy who likes to have a lot of fun. Hes the type of professor you would want to go to dinner with to learn about architechtural studies. He loves teaching math and although he has an accent, hes still easy to understand. His tests are not bad if you study for them. If you fail his class, you don't even deserve to go to UTSA.
If you're a CAP student, I'd say go ahead and take this teacher. His tests are pretty easy, all you need to know is SOH CAH TOA and ASTC acronyms to get at least a B, then study for his tests by doing problems in the book and you should get an A. Don't take this class if you haven't been exposed to trig though, his lectures aren't helpful.
He is not good at lectures, ends up telling you: you should never get close to a kangaroo, they will attack you. Showed prewritten notes in class, I suggest you write as fast as you can and think about it later. Notes had nothing to do with the test. I never went to class + just did the section reviews at the end of each section in the chapter = A+
If you can't pass his class, you should probably rethink your major. He is very straight forward and his tests are not tricky and he gives reviews. He's very organized and really wants the class to understand the subject. He's not the nicest but he's a good professor.
i thought i was bad at precal, but this class was pretty easy. his lectures can be confusing at times, but if you get the concepts tests are really easy, 3 tests and final, all mulitiple choice. should be a breeze
I don't see why people think he's unhelpful, because if you ask a question in class, he'll answer it fully to make sure you understand. He breezes through the material if no one speaks up that they don't understand something, so if you take his class, speak up and he'll help you! Simple as that. The tests are surprisingly easy though.
Presents material with clarity and does many examples in class, which you can refer to later on if you run into trouble doing the homework. If you do the homework, you'll do well on the quizzes, and if you do well on the quizzes, then the exams should be a breeze. He doesn't try to trip students up.
he was very hard to understand, but the man is a genius. His tests are somewhat difficult but he gives online hw extra credit that if you do all of them you can raise your grade a letter. i finished with a b, but it was difficult
You don't have to go to class, but keep up. Do the homework on WebCT as you go through the chapters. You can redo them UNTIL YOU MAKE A 100. The exams are just 15 questions EXACTLY FROM THE HOMEWORK. Friendly professor too!
Precal was not easy with him. He is a bit hard to understand, but extremely intelligent. The homeworks are all on Mathlab and are infinitly-redoable. ALWAYS go to class, or you will fall behind, he covers material really quickly.
He makes me laugh but sometime I get so lost- he runs through things pretty quick
He is da man.
do NOT take this prof! very hard to understand and goes through things extremely fast! his notes are half worthless so be prepared to teach yourself. yes test questions are from the homework but again its only 15 out of maybe 200 questions..so know EVERYTHING..
Do NOT Take
Funny at times. Genius, u can search him and ull see the things that he's done. Please don't take him unless ur real good at not using a calculator and great at memorizing equations. Genius in math but not a great teacher, i wouldnt have passed the class if it wasnt for my friend and youtube videos. Wouldnt recommend him forAPersonWhosnotGoodinMath
Really tough class. Very time consuming; the book taught me more than attending class did. Salingaros is a cool guy though. He's very funny and sometimes he plays piano. However, I definitely don't recommend taking this class!
I went to class everyday and yet I left not understanding anything. your grade is made up of 3 tests, the final and online hw. If you're good at math and can teach yourself take his class... otherwise i would look for another professor.
Actually pretty easy. Yes you do have to study but his tests are straight from the homework and if you just study the EASY questions at the beginning of the chapter you'll do fine. You should be able to get a B!
This professor is absolutely terrible. Barely speaks any english and brings pre-written notes to class. He is not helpful at all if you are having trouble. If you do not have a strong math background I would highly suggest a different professor.
He's actually not a bad professor at all. I thought his class was pretty easy - and I'm awful at math. I took precal in h.s. though, just not calculus. His tests are all multiple choice and they're based off of the easy questions from the book. But if you have no prior knowledge of pre-cal, I'd recommend having help from someone who's good at math.
His class was easy I got an A. No calculators on tests. If you have prior knowledge of precal you'll be fine. But when he lectures, he always explains why you you get your answer, rather than how to simply solve it - so basically he makes solving the problem more complicated than what it really is. So his lectures aren't helpful so I taught myself.
Im good at math, and had little to no difficulty in this class, however I would never recommend him to anyone. His problems are already worked out, you can't effectively ask him any questions and quite frankly its easier just to teach yourself. Don't take this guy if you can avoid it.
This guy is THE MAN! I dont know why there are comments about his accent. He speaks better english than any of my American professors. Anyway, He's a really easy guy if youve taken Pre-Cal in high school. PERFECT for CAP students. If you have not taken Pre-Cal then AVOID him. He will seem hard in the beginning but DONT drop him. SUPER EASY TESTS!
Easy class and great professor. I didn't really attend class and got an A. Just keep up with the homework even if not all of it is mandatory.
EASIEST TEACHER EVER! No calculators allowed so he only does porblems that dont need one, which makes the problems simple! Tests are really easy. Make sure you took pre-cal in high school though. Seriously! Make sure youve already taken Pre-cal.If you have, this is your class! If you need it, that is!
Super cool guy. This class is an easy A, do not drop it even though it may appear difficult the first week or so. Tests are 15 questions, multiple choice and super easy. No calculators allowed, but you wouldn't use one anyway for these types of problems. His accent is not nearly as bad as other professors I've had, you'll understand him just fine.
Took this guy for precal, big mistake. Like everyone else says, prewritten problems and not very helpful if you get lost at any point. He moves extremely quick and only gives you tests and online quizzes you can easily cheat on according to him. If you aren't good at math, don't take him. He's a smart guy, but he can't teach.
Guy goes by the book, if you missed problems on his exam; go by his office and ask him abt them, he will help you if you don't understand. He will also allow you to "take notes" (copy the exam by hand) while in his office. Just do the homework, exam questions are very similar to homework problems. And his accent doesn't interfere with his teaching.
Monotone and if you aren't interested in math or aren't particularly math inclined, opt for someone else. Prewrites a page of problems and puts them on the projector and goes through them very fast. Constantly trying to balance listening and writing down the lectures as he does not post his lectures online.
Mr. Salingaros is a very nice man who tries his hardest to liven up class with jokes. His tests are extremely easy but his way of explaining is disorganized and unclear. He brings prewritten notes to class. If you ask questions he tries his hardest to explain. BE PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF. I recommend him if youve taken precal. Easy A then
Surprised to see many negative reviews. I took his pre-cal class and it was pretty easy if you actually study. He will answer any questions as well. He is obviously a mathematician so its not easy to keep up with him sometimes but he knows what he is doing. He is actually a very accomplished man. I would recommend him tbh.
I took AP Calc in HS and ended up with a B in his class cause he made everything so confusing and more difficult then it needed to be. Uses written notes in class that are sloppy but he does answer any question you have to an extent. Online HW that doesn't match up with the chapters he does/whats on the test so idk the point. but 10% of grade
This class isn't that hard, it's just super boring. To be successful I would suggest going to class at least once a week to figure out which lessons are going to be on the test, do the BB homework, and YouTube the lessons. If I've made it, so can you.
Dr. Salingaros is an interesting guy! His notes for class are pre-written. I taught myself using the textbook. The tests were 15 questions each and the final exam was 30 questions. The tests weren't too difficult because calculators were not allowed. If you aren't good at math, I wouldn't recommend him but I personally liked him.
He goes over content too quickly and assumes everyone is a mathematician.
Class was easy enough but it's hard to understand him at times because of his accent. Don't take this in the morning or you WILL fall asleep. Use book if you need extra help otherwise he never makes you use it even though he says to. Nice guy though.
He is not as bad as these Pre-Cal babies say. I found his class easy; free online homework counts as 10 EC points on your average. Hand-written notes suck, but I just did the homework multiple times until I learned. The exam questions are similar. He is very accomplished, has written books, and been to math conferences. Interesting guy, take him!
Hadn't taken precalculus in 20 years. Great professor, very helpful. Course is tough but if you do the homework and the suggested problems in the book along with the lectures and SI sessions then you can get a good grade. 3 exams of 15 questions each before a final of 30 questions. No calculator. Really enjoyed the course.
I have dyscalculia. I am very bad at math. I passed trig because of this guy. His explanations are concise and elegant, and he will stop class to make sure everyone is on the same page. He tells you things in a matter-of-fact way that I guess is off-putting to some, but he's an excellent teacher. His accent is barely there. Great sense of humor.
He's not very good at explaining the material. Notes are pre-written so he just puts them on the projector and talks about them. He "wants" people to ask questions, but then usually makes them look silly. He assigns online homework at the beginning of the semester and its all due at the end, meaning you can take your time. Tests are multiple choice
Interesting and funny guy, but his lectures are very dry. When you ask for help he gives a very confusing answer. Uses examples from lectures in tests. Tests are 15 questions so you can't mess up more than once for an A. Also he makes quite a few mistakes on the online homework and I even came across a mistake on a test so watch out for those.
He's not that bad, but if you can pick someone else then do so.
He does not let you use a calculator on the tests, when other pre-cal teachers do.
Really cares about the student's learning and participation. Takes his time during lectures to make sure everyone is caught up and understood. One of my favorite professors I've ever had, because he is one of the few professors who is a true teacher.
Prof. S has a great personality, dry humor. He isn't necessarily unclear in his lectures, but there is no room for error. He gives you a 1 point extra credit group project and he gives only 4 exams. Because the homework isn't worth much, you bomb one exam and u can kiss your grade good bye. There are only 19 questions so no much room for error.
Rent the textbook and take notes from it. Go to class just pay attention how he solves the problems. If you miss more than two questions on a test you are already lose your chance of getting an A. No calculators or formula sheet allowed during test.
If you struggle, even just a little bit, with math do NOT take this professor. Seriously.
Solid professor, is a very accomplished man. Do the homework and go to class and you will be fine. My only complaint is that he has premade notes and doesn't work any problems in class.
Great professor. If you pay attention in class, you'll notice the tests are full of freebies. I missed class A LOT and still earned an A in MAT 2233. Lecture notes are handwritten which is slightly annoying, but he explains things clearly and answers questions as soon as you have them. He likes to joke, but sometimes they aren't funny. I recommend.
Professor Salingaros is probably the worst professor I've ever had. He comes to class with notes prewritten and gives vague answers when students ask questions. Honestly, if he just wrote the notes out in class, it wouldn't be as hard
Although I don't agree with this teaching method (using pre-written notes on the overhead projector) he doesn't make attendance mandatory. He genuinely wants to make sure people understand the material, whether it may come off as a stupid question. No curves on any tests and no calculators, but multiple choice.
This professor teaches from handwritten notes, which are sometimes hard to read. The homework is not due until the end of the semester so beware! Don't try to do it one week before the final because you won't finish! Personally I thought he was boring and didn't explain things well for someone who struggles in math. Would not recommend.
This professor is terrible. He comes to class with pre-written notes, and doesn't explain the material. I hate math and did terrible in his class. If you want to pass, you need to go to every class and learn the material yourself. Worst class I've taken at UTSA. Take Cindy Roberts, she is amazing.
His pre-written notes do NOT work, he does not explain clearly, he is rude whenever someone asks questions, and as a whole, he is a bad professor. Would not take him again and I would not recommend him to anyone.
He cares a lot about his students. His notes are pre-written but they are very helpful and give many examples! The homework is easy if you show up to class and take the notes! Tests are very similar to the Homework so make sure you do them.
Salingaros's lectures are clear and straightforward. Homework is simple to complete as long as you attend the lectures. Exams are also straightforward, very easy work to get an A in the class if you do the HW and study the lecture notes. He does have dry humor, but his side-tangents are for good intentions. Overall, excellent professor.
Professor Salingaros is an amazing professor for linear algebra and for the ones that give hi the low ratings are all the pre cal students and developmental math students who do not want to study ! He has clear lectures and tells you what is actually going to be on the exams and also chill reviews! This class is so easy
Dr. Salingaros is a very smart man with a extensive background in math and physics. The lectures are very easy to understand and he does a great job explaining all concepts. The tests are basically the same as the hw when it comes to the type of questions being asked. I wish he taught linear algebra 2 because he was a great professor to learn from!
I am taking Linear Algebra with Professor Salingaros. He is very intelligent and has done a great job explaining all of the concepts in order to make sure we understand. His decision to not use Proctorio has been a relief as well as the program can be invasive and stressful. So far, a great experience in his class.
Professor Salingaros does a good job at explaining the concepts of this course. He is always willing to answer questions or explain topics in different ways to help students understand. There are weekly quizzes and chapter homeworks which are extremely similar to the exams which will have you extremely prepared to earn an easy A in this course.
Professor Salingaros is very knowledgeable in all things math, but class itself can be quite boring when he's explaining things. Tests were difficult and the final was cumulative. He requires the textbook but doesn't use it in class or for homework. Weekly quizzes are available for one day, and homework is open by chapter for the whole semester.
Course was pretty easy. Exams are multiple choice, questions pulled from the quizzes and hw. I was able to not really study at all, except memorizing how to chunk through the quiz problems before the exams, and do alright. Slight curve at the end based on doing the hw. Not rigorous at all but good enough coverage of matrix algebra for engineers.
Great Professor. Dr. Salingaros has good class structure, clear voice, lots of homework, quizzes, and tests. The high workload means that even if you did poorly in a test, you can recover and still earn a good grade. My only regret was not having time to approach him outside of class because he has many interesting papers on architecture.
Not bad of a class with the helpful notes. Went to this office hours as he took off points from an exam question when I did all the work correctly and just wanted the points I deserved. He laughed in my face.
