class was boring but he took attendance which is exra credit. and offers a lot of extra credit so its impossible to fail if you do all the exra credit.
He's a good teacher. I took him for Environment and Biology, and his Environment class was harder than his Biology class. The tests were multiple choice, short answer, and essay. The mult. choice was easy but the short answer and essay were really hard.
On some aspects he is easy, on some he is hard. Most importantly, he works with you to facilitate learning & tries to help you earn your best grade. He's very knowledgeable, kind & funny in class. I took 1 class w/ him & sought him out 3 yrs later for 2 more. He made these hard classes manageable.

he put me to sleep, and it was hard to find material in the text and notes
A really good biology teacher, he cares about what he does and is friendly to his students. The class is a lot of memorization but he makes the information as clear as possible and sometimes offers extra credit worksheets. He doesn't make you feel stupid to ask questions.
Good professor, helpful, funny, clear. Made biology exiting and entreteining. I will definetely take another of his classes and recommend him to other students.
I'm taking him for the 6 week summer term. At first I thought he'd be hard, but after time he starts to know the students and knows how much we can take. We were supposed to have 6 tests w/ final, but instead we're going to have 5 tests with no final because of time. He really works with his students and he makes the class interesting and fun.
This is one of the best professors for biology, he does like to talk though lol. He will work with you on everything and really cares about the students and their grades, he gives lots of extra credit and exams are so so, but if you're a bio major definitly take him, you will learn tons and remember almost everything!
He's a great teacher...His class was interesting....he gives a whole lot of extra credit...his exam were ok....he provides more than enough materials in order understand the chapters. Overall his a great teacher...i'm taking him for the other half....
Good teacher
This is one of the best professors for biology, he does like to talk though lol. He will work with you on everything and really cares about the students and their grades, he gives lots of extra credit and exams are so so, but if you're a bio major definitly take him, you will learn tons and remember almost everything!
HE IS A VERY SWEET TEACHER.HELPS YOU OUT ALOT..GIVES TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT.HE HELPS YOU WITH ALL ASPECTS OF BIOLOGY...HE IS FUNNY AND IS AVALIABLE TO HELP AT ALL TIMES.HE FACILITATES LEARING! TESTS ARE A BIT HARD BUT IF U STUDY THE NOTES THEN U WILL DO FINE!
First of all, this class is not a walk in the park. Tons of information to memorize. This professor makes it less painful if you're willing to work, tons of extra credit and lot's of opportunities to boost your grade. Got a B in 1010C and an A in 1011C
If you want to tap into the "magic" of science, Prof Marin is your man! A walking encyclopedia of bio knowlegde, Prof Marin can explain complex systems in very basic and understandable terms. (and his tangents help to see the bigger pic) Not an easy A, but his combination of passion with tech expertise makes this a "must take" prof for bio majors!
The best bio professor at BCC. Gives tons of "out of classroom learning experiences" (for extra credit). Helpful and clear. Learned a lot with him and still remember it. His tests are "challenging" but possible.
One of the best Professors in BCC, If you are a biology major, this is the best teacher, he will do anything to help you strive in your career as well as any goals you need to reach. Even though he likes to talk a lot, I remember a lot from his classes and they are helping me a lot on my upper division classes in FAU. Thanks professor!
Good Teacher, pretty easy but has an accent. Gives out Extra Credit. A good teacher to take.
Good guy but, kind of hard to understand because of his Spanish accent. Gives out Extra Credit and shows Powerpoints for his notes. His tests ae not easy but again you have to study. This will not be an easy A but, a B is pretty easy to earn. He is a good guy.
Great Teacher! super nice guy! He tries his best to make you understand and is very helpful, gives extra credit. His tests are a little hard but not impossible. Take him if you can!!
he is a great teacher but tests are somewheat difficult, if you study u will pass, not an easy A
Excellent teacher, very intelligent and extremely helpful. Offers extra credit to help boost up grade, but test's are pretty hard. His lecture notes are not too helpful, I just basically read the book for his tests.
A great lab teacher, but he like to talk a lot. He is not a very good teacher because he doesn't teach. He teaches by putting in a disk and letting it explain it. Not a very good teacher because he doesn't teach.
Not one of the best teachers around. Study the textbook and u should be ok. Majority of classes u will be watching videos that does NOT help much. However he is good for labs. He also pretends alot.
HE IS VERY HELPFULL
his tests are really challenging. you must do more than just read his notes. i'm doing well, but a lot of people aren't doing so well in the class. he offers a lot of extra credit which balances it all out. if you have him for lab watch out...he keeps you the entire time and sometimes even over. nice guy though
Horrible teacher!! Very unorganized! He is very smart but when it comes to teaching he is not. Don't attend lectures they just confuse u even more just show up for test dates, don't use his notes. The best sources for the tests is read the book very detailed and use the study guide for the the book for more help and you should be fine.
He clearly loves what he teaches and will stay after class to help you learn something if you are having trouble. He is also very nice. If you do your work, you will do well in his class.
Great professor. he has a bit of a tendency to go off on tangents but overall i got an A just by attending all classes and reading the book once. His lab was simple. Dont be shy to ask him questions though.
He is very nice, but hard to understand. Not his accent but the way he teaches. I came to every class and took all the notes and still did bad. He tries to help you though. I just didn't do well with his teaching style. He uses alot of computer illustrations. You have to take notes and he says read the chapters at least 4 times each. He's not kiddi
My major is biology and after taking this class I'm really not that interested anymore. He is very nice and very intelligent but he cannot teach at all. There is no reason to show to class... If you want to pass you have to read the chapters at least 4 times...literally... and I have a low A... Basically it's a self tought class... HORRIBLE.
It is true that he doesn't teach that well, however I go to class take adequate notes, I read the chapters once and I have a 99% in the class. If you read you will do excellent
Very hard to understand, he has a thick accent. Tests are hard, you have to read the chapters 4-5 times. He says he is not tricky, but some people dissagree. You have to teach yourself. Not easy class at all.
He cant teach bottom line. His colorful CDs & powerpoints is what teaches you & they dont even go along with the chapter that much anyways. He gives very hard test that look like they should be final exams since their around 70-75 questions per test. You would have to REALLY study the book to pass the test.
Hard to understand. Expects you to learn from his boring lecture. Shows alot of useless animations. Very boring class!!
He's a great teacher! He gives extra credit and all his tests are multiple choice and passible if you just read the chapter. I hardly ever went to class, but I would advise everyone else to go because his lecutres do help alot. Whenever I missed alot of classes I would just read the chapter and I did fine on the tests.
He is a great teacher, very helpful, and always available for you. His tests are multiple choice,a little challenging (you need to think). I got an A in the class by reading the book. Tests are based on the book, don't have to bother taking the notes. He has a cool accent and very handsome !!!
LAB: He is great, helpful, nice, easy tests and lab reports. Great accent and extra credit
I took him because of this page, and I cant praise him enough, he really is amazing, i had him for lecture and lab at the same time and enjoyed every class. If you need a great bio teacher that actually cares about students, take him.
He gives out outline notes for the chapters & im not a fan of reading the book, which works out really well if you pick up on things fast. He gives tons of extra credit. He does rush through on the chapters where he it gets intense so dont expect much of ACTUAL learning. Just depends on what your taste is on learning.
If u pick this teacher please be warned: U will have no life in order to pass with an A or B. His lectures are sooo boring and u wont learn from them so READ! Dont get fooled by the smiley face! Ok, he's a nice guy but that is NOT ENOUGH! The tests r 4 chps each and he doesnt tell u what to focus on so u just have to kno EVERYTHING! NOT recommended
the class is pretty boring.. i personally don't like bio but anyways. he is not bad, he explains everything, the tests are pretty hard, he gives extra credit but not enough.. if u want an A you need to study hard.
a really nice guy but not a great teacher.good luck to anyone brave enough to take him. Beware....
i didnt get a very high grade in his class but he is a very nice guy.. its just the material that sucks..
I was struggling and doing poorly in the class. He took time out to help. FANTASTIC TEACHER! He takes an intimidating subject (Biology) and makes it user-friendly. Loved his lectures!
he is a great professor. he is not soft on you at th point were he spoon feeds you the information but he makes it easy. i learned alot about my enviroment. andim thankful to have geat teacherlike him. if you are a person that doesnt like to rea or pay attention dont take him but if you are a serious person take. great teacher
He is very nice and tries to make class fun. the material; however, is totally different to what they teach you in college, you can get a good grade just by reading the book, but attendance for his calss is mandatory!
This guy is tough. His tests are the type of multiple choice you see on standardized entrance exams. That said, he is willing to help outside of class and if you can get past the accent he explains things very well. I would rather have him again than the professor I am taking for my second biology course. Plus he's kinda cute.
Marin is for people who wants to learn biology to really get into the medical field they want to study; he's not for jokers who just want to scrape through. He does hold the class after because there is so much info. but he's really great at explaining in details what he's teaching. Some chapters he needs to spend more time on others not as much.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! you can tell he doesn't use his own exams, which is lame because he still expects you to be a bio major without the instruction. you must do your own studying and not only study what he says to. he doesn't know how to explain clearly and is LAZY! DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Are you up for a challenge? If not, dont take him. He's not impossible but he's hard. His lectures are GREAT, he's a GREAT person and truly cares about his students. Tests are 75 questions - STUDY! He says "make Biology a part of you".. he's right, atleast if you want to excel in the course. Goes out of his way for you & teaches you alot about LIFE
Professor Marin is a very good professor, very smart and love teaching, but......if you are going to take him, make sure you are not taking any other class. he is very helpful but you must read the book. His tests are really hard, he do not give reviews so you have to read the book.
I LOVE HIM!!! I had him for 1010 lab and loved him so much I built my whole schedule around his class for the winter semester. So did a lot of other people! He really does care about his students and will go out of his way to make sure we understand the material. His tests are a little difficult but they are multiple choice. Take him!!!
Marin is a good professor. biology is not an easy subject but you should do fine if you are dedicated. He expect a lot of effort from you. his test are not easy you really have to study and you must purchase the text book. he provides plenty of extra credits " complete as much extra credit as possible" it will help at the end.
Prof. Marin used at least an 80 slide powerpoint everyday during summer class. for the enitre 2 hours. dredfull! the man rambles and repeats himself quite often. seems to start telling you something realizes he's not keen on the subkect and quickly pick up a different topic.. what a joke. I could have taguht the class better based on common knowled
ughhhhhhhh!!! this class is so hard! if you study A LOT ( like everyday ) and pay attention in class and read the chapters like 3 times, you can get a B ( and thats WITH extra credit ) but besides that he is a really really nice professor and gives a lot of hand outs to help you study and encourages his students to try their best!
He doesnt know how to explain himself. really hard class if you dont have a lot of time for it
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AT LEAST NOT WHIT THIS TEACHER!! Really stressing if you care about passing. He is nice but he has no idea how to teach you seat down in the classroom and just hear him speaking you dont really listen cuz he does not know how to explaing himself, really hard class a lot of stuff to memorize :(
He is the worst Bio. teacher ever!! In class he jumps around a lot going through differen slides ex:The class will be on chpt.1 when he suddenly talks about chpt 3?! test are very hard and do not follow text. He doesnt teach he just reads the powerpoints out loud. Do not take if u want to pass
if you take this class with him be prepared to study day and night and know every little detail. he tells you to make biology your life, you really have to.
This teacher is very very hard. His tests are extremely long and not comprehensible, they don't even relate to what he is lecturing about. Ok, well he does gives bonus points but they don't really help at all. He is a nice guy outside of class, he even audited the grade for me. He doesn't give any assigments and goes way too fast. Don't take him.
I agree that he is a nice guy, but he cannot teach.Taking this class you should be prepared to get lots off help outside of classroom(tutors, etc). You can find multiple answers for the questions in his exame. Please do not take him.
He uses obscure material on the test taken from the textbook. He makes the class sound difficult in the beginning of the semester to get uninterested students to drop, but he dropped a test and the final was take home. He is usually late to class and office hours, but really cares if you show a genuine interest and will make sure you succeed.
Excellent teacher. Knows his subjects[BSC1010 and BSC 1010L] very well. In a Sentence: He Goes above and beyond the call of duty. Those who give him a rating should blame themselves first.
In class, test answers are subjective, and in lab you are completely on your own! Don't expect any reasonable explanation when asking a question, the response is babble! As a person he seems to be a nice guy, but if you want to learn, find another teacher!
Be prepared to spend all freetime outside of class researching and learning on the internet because you won't learn anything from this "teacher"
Professor Marin is very knowledgeable in Biology & is very interested in explaining in detail any question a student has.Like any science course, you have to do your own studying & not just rely on lecture notes. If you read the chapters a few times you should have no problem getting at least a B. Lecture is boring but its biology not entertainment
I had Nilo for bio 1 and 2 and bio 1 and 2 lab... So 4 classes in total. I absolutely loved him. He is a great professor and is there to help and explain everything. You do have to read the text, every chapter to pass the test b/c his tests r from the book not power point. But he was awesome! I'm taking him for anatomy lab this semester!
horrible! i'm a straight A student and i had to drop his class. taking it with michelle green and she's great!! take michelle green instead
he dosnt teach, just flys through it really fast, he flips through the power points so fast you dont get a chance to take notes. He sometimes wont even cover the material and tell you to read the rest in the text book (which is hard to understand as well). The tests were long and unless you knew EVERY SINGLE LITTLE DETAIL its impossible to get an A
Hands down, one of the best biology teachers at BC. If you are looking for a challenge and want to learn biology, this is the class to take. You NEED to study the textbook and his powerpoints together. He is always willing to help. Excellent professor, will be taking him again for BSC1011.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! im an A student and so far im get a C by the skin of my teeth. He makes all his tests like they were an MCAT or PCAT and for students who are bad testers in the SAT's that will screw you over. This is Broward College, we're not taking our MCATS and the tests shouldn't be that. save your gpa. you have to b a genius in bio.
PlZ dont take this teacher. if you want to audit he'll let u but if u fail still during the audit he gives u that F! he obviously failed mcats cuz every class he talks about them. hes extremely hard and his tests are always at least 75 questions. some extra credit but not lenient if u forget it that day. take another teacher and save urself
this guy sucks. he can barely relay the information to his student, then tells us to read extra chapter that will be on the test, and then he won't even put that on the test! his tests are incomprehensible and have nothing to do with the material he teaches! please save yourself the torment and take someone else!
he makes this class ridiculously harder than it needs to be. he uses a lot of trick questions on his tests, then uses an excuse that they're "mcat and pcat" style. Take someone else if you have the chance.
those who gave Marin a bad rating are lazy and were expecting an easy A. Yes, his tests are hard, which is why you need to study a lot for them. However, he provides you with the resources (and common sense) to do well in his class, plus offers extra credit. There's no reason you can't get at least a B in his class by putting the effort into it.
he is the most irresponsible man I have ever met, he's quite mean, not much common sense! His lectures don't help, don't show up if you can!
It was a pleasure to be in Marin's BSC1010 class. An excellent professor and a very helpful person. He made biology a fun class. His class is NOT an easy A: you have to study hard and come to class. Anyone who failed or did bad did not put the time into it. I got an A in his class, so it is definitely possible. I will be taking him for 1011.
Marin is the hardest bio teacher on the entire campus, and not just from a students perspective but from other bio teachers on campus. his tests are insanely long and on more then wat u learned in class, his notes dont rele help u, and i studied every day and didnt manage to pass, and bio is my major!
the hardest, but the best!
He's a nice guy, an extremely nice guy and funny. I took him for lab, but it was not easy. There was a quiz every class and the practicals took a lot of time. You will probably be able to handle it more so then me because I took another lab and two other science classes and a math. I say take him, but I heard his lecture is a pain in the...enjoy!
great person, bad teacher! he is very hard. and test are really long. i took him for bio 1 and 2 :'(
This is a really good class to take if you want a solid foundation in biology. He is very fair, gives extra-credit opportunities, and goes over what will be covered on tests. His tests are long and difficult but if you study for them you can pass them. He was pretty good in lab too. I would take him again!
I had him for both 2010 and 2011. He was awesome! He really does everything he can to make you get an A. Of course you have to study...but he is still very good
I took him online and there is no way you will fail this class unless you do nothine at all! .. the test are hard b/c he never guides you on what to study, its just read the chapters and take the quizess and test. He gives extra credit, do them all !
took his class and failed... no help or clarification on quizzes.... book sucked... hated environmental science
Good guy, HARD HARD HARD Teacher!!!!!! IF you have no CLUE what Biology Really is STAY FAR FAR AWAY. he is a nice guy but HARD TEST! 95% of your grade HARD TO PASS!!! IF you don't know anything about BIO DO NOT TAKE!!
yes, the tests are hard, but they require you to think and not just regurgitate the material. His tests are very passable as long as you STUDY STUDY STUDY! If you don't put the effort into it, don't expect an A or even a B. read the textbook chapters thoroughly and attend every class, and you should have no problem getting an A.
This guy is the worse! Stay far far away! His grading sucks! No one ever passes his test but he still makes them harder and harder every time, plan to stay late he will try to keep you in class atlest an extra 20 minutes and rush though everything at the end, he never response to Any emails. He gives you extra credit but it won't help one bit. Stay away!!!!! He thinks as if everyone is a biology major! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!
I already graduated from BC but I still remember the horrible experience I had with this teacher even if you study you will still get a bad grade I got a C and it wasn't fair because I studied my ass off I do not recommend this teacher his grading is not fair and he does not know how to explain the material.
Prof Marin is a great teacher. He is very funny and willing to go out of his way to help. He scheduled a practical on his Birthday just to help me! The class is not the easiest but he is a fair grader. Take this class if you want to learn.
the hardest classes ever and I am so glade its over. I mean the he told me to read the chapter 3 times I mean come on. you have exam, quiz, disussion, and assignments all in the same week. I should have listened that he is not a good teacher. I took this class online. If you want to pass I suggest you team up if you know what I mean.find anoth
Hard class, you NEED TO STUDY. He is one of the best bio professors I have had. No offense to previous raters, but this is a bio class for SCIENCE MAJORS. I'm at UM now, and I wish the professors here were like him. If you think this is hard, wait until you are at another university. He prepares you well for university biology. You must study!
Really great teacher, but moves way to slow for chapters an some questions that werent covered in the lecture would be on the test. His tests are fairly difficult but I took my own notes. questions are based on connections mostly instead of definitions. He is very helpful but not so clear, stutters a lot. Got an A but worked hard. i would reccomend
very good teacher but it's like he is preparing his students to take the MCAT or PCAT. tests are ridiculous. knows how to teach but excepts us to know every detail of what is covered in the chapter.I recomend for (pre-med) only as his class will challenge you thoroughly
I only had him for the lab, but he was a good enough professor. Make sure you do ALL the review questions in the lab books. That's what his quizzes are on. He will always help you in lab if you don't understand.
are you serious how can this guy still be teaching when the class avg isa 66% only 2 people are getting A's and the class avg for the final was a 61%? Horrible teach grading sucks very biased on the final dont take you will regret it most definitely
Ok I don't know why this guy at the bottom is complaining he probably was that guy a 31% in the class. Ok you do study for your butt of but he prepares you so good for upper level bio. really helpful, gave me like 10 answers on the final that got me a 98 in the class. must take if you are serious about your major. great professor overall
I only had him for lab, but he is a great professor for lab!! I learned more in lab from him than I learned in lecture. Do pre-labs and review the questions from the lab report and you will do fine. The only thing I didn't like was he would sometimes be late for class up to 15 minutes and then run over his allowed time which caused me problems.
An amazing professor who knows his stuff very much well and knows how to teach. He's rather tricky but at least you will learn and not just get an easy A. Be prepared to be challenged and pay lots of attention, Biology isn't an easy class as it is. He's a fair professor and anyone who says otherwise is just a poor student.
People who are giving him poor ratings are obviously not putting in the time required for studying. You cannot expect him to make it easy for you and hand out a good grade. He does an excellent job at what he does and is VERY helpful. Would definitely recommend him to other people. Best bio professor bar none.
He is the BEST. Prepares you for the University classes plus the MCAT
Is really difficult but you have a lot of opportunities with him he drops a grade you can retake the lowest one and he always make a curve and the end. NEED TO STUDY A LOT
his tests are extremely difficult. Most of the class was failing because he doesn't put q's on the test and quizzes relevant to what we studied. He responds to emails one week later when you don't need an answer anymore. I' an A student and I got a C in this class. I think he is really disorganized!!!!
You have to study! He's an amazing professor, teaches you all the small details that are important. He's amazingly nice and charismatic and very professional. Don't take if you know you can't study well.
I really did not like him. He talks soo much about everything that's not on the test. I could not stay awake in this class. I studied for my 1st test and got a D. I do not recommend him. He's a nice person but I feel that he should be more direct to what he wants us to truly know. ps not organized in teaching structure.
Nice professor, I believe he knows his material, but lectures are not up to the quality of his exams. Once again, another professor, whose lectures are average & exams, complex.
Class consisted of 4 exams and a quiz for every chapter plus TONS of extra credit. Really great guy and always willing to help. BE SURE TO READ YOUR BOOK! you should be doing that regardless, but it's the best way to succeed in this course.
I took this professor for lab and it was a hard class. I did better in my lecture class than the lab. He doesn't follow the syllabus with the grading scale. Grade was basic off the quizzes. They're quiz in every lab session, so don't miss any labs. Lab classes should be fun and easy, this was not the best class.
Horrible. I took his online class and dropped it after the 2nd test. I've been a straight A student. I had a D at the time I dropped this class. He gives notes which aren't helpful or even on the test. Mixes up future test questions with current lesson plans. Even wrote "participation" instead of precipitation. Are you kidding me? A professor????
Hes smart, friendly & willing to help. There are 4 exams, quizzes on each chapter & some extra credit crossword puzzles! I never used my textbook & got an A in the class. Some people read everything & still failed. Listen, pay attention & take good notes during class. He tells you what to focus on for each test if you listen carefully. I loved him!
I had him BIO lab, then again for BIO II and lab in the summer. The class is really intense but what else do you expect from a 6 week class. He's very helpful, gives great examples and extra credit, he also drops your lowest quiz grade. He takes a little long to get started in lab but is great in all other aspects of teaching. I would take him again!
This was my first science class in college and it was okay. If you read the book and somewhat pay attention in class you should get a B or higher on tests and quizzes. He gives out a ton of XC like crossword puzzles and surveys for textbook makers. He tends to take way too much time on chapters.
This guy sucks! I liked him until I realized he talks way too much about one thing and doesn't cover majority of the material that's supposed to be on the test so you basically you have to teach majority of it to yourself! He also has the most complicating grading system! Never take him!
DO NOT TAKE!!!! AWFUL!!! MAKES THINGS HARD FOR NO REASON!!
I took Prof. Marin for both lecture and lab. It's a difficult class and reading the text is a must, but overall he's a great professor! I went to his office hours often and got to know him and he's extremely helpful. He knows the material very well and has many interesting stories, as he used to be a biologist. I got an A in lecture and a B in lab.
For a general bio 1 lab class, way too much time and effort is required. However, unlike most lab classes where you're worried about getting your results just right, the lab reports barely make an impact on your grade so you can focus on learning the material. Prof. Marin is a cool person& is willing to help.If u have time to put effort in,take him
Willing to read? Want to actually learn? Then take him. No, he's not the easiest professor, but he wants you to succeed. He gives you extra credit and encourages you to visit him for office hrs. He makes biology more than just memorizing and tests your conceptual understanding. One thing though: he gets off-topic easilly and rushes toward the end.
Bio 2 Lab w/ Marin was the hardest class I've ever taken and I've taken calc 3, orgo 2, and others! There is just waaayyy too much info for a 1 credit class. Nobody got an A that I know of this semester. Practicals are hard! Marin is cool,I really do like him and his knowledge and personality made the labs bearable, but this class was a nightmare!
I've had Marin 4 times. He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He challenges you, which if you're pre-med/vet/dent/etc. is a good thing. Don't worry, getting an A is possible;getting a B is likely if study. Prof. Marin goes off on tangents, so his lecturing can get boring but he has some interesting parts. Only bad thing: weekly quizzes :(
Dr. Marin's LAB class was def not the easiest I had to study really hard to get a decent grade, If you are willing to NOT miss class, study the labs, do the lab reports, and pre labs, you WILL pass his class.
His the worst professor ever. don't take him at all he makes everything harder he's class its really hard you do not want him to be your teacher! you will waste your time in his class he's a good professor and everything but just hard just don't take him don't break your head! you'll have a hard time...
This is not an easy class but it's not meant to be. If you're not ready to put in the work required for this basic biology class, maybe you should reconsider career paths. I had Marin for both and the C's I got were generous ones. He is by no means a bad professor, I just wasn't an exceptional student. He's ready to teach if you're ready to learn.
I'm a straight A student, and I didn't pass his course. He's not very clear, and tends go off-topic a lot. He tends to rush towards the end. I know I put the time in to study, and still yielded off putting results. He even mentioned that he's not even aware of what questions are on the tests he hands out.
I am an A student and didn't listen to the reviews on here thinking I'd be ok. Big mistake. He makes the course much harder than needed and prides himself that his course is like having 2 full time jobs. Had to drop other courses, and am still struggling. No test reviews, bad powerpoints, confusing and scattered lectures, tons of work. Avoid...
Awesome professor! He is a great professor that wants his students to succeed. The extra credit given from the Sacheim book is an excellent learning material. He gives you a chance to retake your lowest test grade honestly how much more could you ask of him. Teaches so you understand. I feel this man class is really preparing me for the PCAT!
Great professor! Some people are just lazy and don't want to put in any work yet expect to receive an A. Professor Marin is very approachable and always ready to help. Not to mention lots of extra credit. I would definitely recommend him and I wish he was teaching it in the fall so I could do part 2 with him.
that awkward moment when you know which 2 people from your class posted the bottom 2 reviews. This professor is rigorous, but he is very helpful. I studied a lot, and I managed to get a B. If I did the extra credit, I would have got an A. Do the sacheim book, it's awesome for studying and there are a couple test questions from there. Fun class.
I took this class over the course of one half of the Summer semester, and by no means was it easy. Prof. Marin is helpful when you ask questions, so ask away, and missing a lecture is out of the question if students want to get an A. Fun class, but lots of studying required, and not necessarily from the textbook.
Personal experience just horrible .. might be different for other students. But definitely not a great professor for me, doesn't mean he can't be a good professor for others. Again, this is my personal opinion only.
one of the best, if not the best professor I've taken. Yes you want an easy teacher but how will that help you and make you learn in the future? He makes an effort if you make an effort. You have to say what you think it is because he will not tell you and give you the answers. If you are wrong he will tell you why and the right answer. Best prof.
I'm taking his online class, the readings and homework is easy, his quizzes are always tricky. There are many typos on his online lessons. I would not take him again.
This professor has a strong accent, so that should be a RED FLAG. He doesn't finish reviewing on time before the exam, good-luck with that. He doesn't give any reviews and his powerpoints are exactly from the book so dont bother with the book. I would not recommend him to anybody.
This professor hes always late, hes tests are ridiculous, they are nothing to do with his "reviews" sometimes he doesn't even give reviews he just shows up and give a lecture of 20 or 30 min and leaves. no extra credit, if your late he puts you in the spot, if you fail a test he say your name out loud in front of everyone save yourself headaches
Majority of his quizzes seem to set you up for failure. They mostly consist of "All of the following are true EXCEPT" which forces students to identify the tiny detail and difference amongst the selections correctly. Most of the questions are not related to what he lectures, or the material he lectures from, and sometimes is literally philosophy.
Currently failing. And badly, I studied read everything and test still doesn't make sense.
Might as well take this class online. He has discussion question, a chapter quiz, and essay style assignment, due every week on D2L. He makes his test harder than they need to with 100 question. He grades on a 5 question curve which means nothing. Takes forever to grade assignments. Online power points are clas lectures. Dont take this professor.
Great in lectures, he's clear and if you don't understand, he will explain until you do. There are quizzes every week, and it is based on the lab you did previously, you have to know your material. Attendance matters, because he explains most of the work. Do the labs! The labs are the only homework.
Class is extremely difficult and for no reason. Tests are very hard even if you read everything and attended every class. Beware, there is only 5 tests, the only grades you will receive. Overall, this is the hardest class I've taken. Even when I went to every single and and read the book (essential to passing) class, I barely pass with a C.
Really tough. The professor is okay but the class covers so much content. He has a quiz for you every class, but he makes you learn all of the material yourself. You're lucky if he actually goes into detail about your subject. Make sure you learn whatever you need to that day, because you're on your own. But he's the best lab you can take.
Worst teacher I have ever have! Did not grade us because he was behind and then after three weeks, emails me back that I am a poor student. Just a terrible teacher. Would not let me get any extra credit and never really had a curriculum. I would not recommend him!!
This is a great Bio Professor, His tests are tough but he gives plenty of extra credit. If you're planning on MedPharm School I would suggest taking him. His lectures are good and gives his power points online to study from. If you read the Chapter you can make a B. If you study a bit more you can make an A. I would not suggest taking this in 6wks
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Thought this class would be an easy A but not with this guy. You can get extra credit & attendance counts but his tests are so difficult. He goes on tangents on minute unimportant things, then rushes at the last minute to finish w the chapter. You basically teach yourself the chapters. DONT TAKE HIM. I wish I wouldve known
Do not take this professor!! Explains too much and tests are extremely difficult! This professor acts like you should already know this stuff. Don't take this professor unless youre expecting to study every hour of the day for his tests. and if you do take him, good luck passing with an A
It's a difficult class but he is very clear and fair with grading. If you ask for help or examples he will give them. He also gives extra credit if you show up and do the work.
He talks a lot about events and studies going on in Biology but non of it is relevant to what will be tested on. Tests were always pushed back and the material that was supposed to be covered in class would end up being crammed in one session. power points were vague and his exams are based on facts he fails to mentions in his lectures.
Best Lab professor ever! Honestly, he is such a great guy, very understanding and great at explaining information. We had a quiz for every lab and he did tend to focus a lot on the fetal pig/histology vs theoretical models. The information is difficult but honestly if you barely study or skip class you won't do well in his class or in health care.
I didn't mind him at all. He was quick to respond to questions regarding the work. There were however some issues with the dates on BCOnline, but the professor corrected anything that was brought to his attention. The exams were really hard, no study guides so be prepared to retain a lot of information. He grades assignments well. Learned A lot.
Some of the comments posted I find funny. I got an A in his bio class and yes I actually had to read the chapters and not rely on his lectures this is college people. That doesn't not make it hard and he gives so much extra credit the only way you will not get an A is if you are lazy.
He's a great Professor his lectures are long but very informative tests are hard but as long as you pay attention to the lectures and homework you will pass he is very kind and willing to help anyone and explain something if you do not understand overall a great professor.
He's a cool guy really nice and willing to help but man you really have to study because his test count for most of your grade and they are really long and really hard. If you take him you gotta get ready to really take time to read and study the chapters if you wanna pass
Every week is the same; you take a quiz before class based on the lab from last class, you turn in your lab report & pre-lab, he quickly discusses the lab before you start, & you spend the rest of the class in groups following the lab's directions. He drops the lowest grade for each assignment type. He's actually very cool and helps if you ask.
I absolutely loved Professor Marin! He is very clear in terms of what he expects from you in lab and in the class. He is very kind, funny, and patient; qualities all lab teachers should have. You do have to study of course, but this class wasn't difficult to pass. I plan on taking him again for my next bio courses, he's that cool.
Excellent biology professor. Very passionate with his lecture. I toke him for Bio 1 and , i got ab A . he GIVES A LOT OF EXTRA CREDITS. If you love biology and are seeking a medical degree, you must take him.
Exams can seem daunting - study the quiz questions (!!!) & powerpoints. He is very helpful in his office hours too. Extra credit for coming to class, saves you from having to catch up on work at home. Weekly assignments, discussions and quizzes. Be organized and don't miss them. Recommend if you're self-disciplined and independent.
Do not take this professor!! He takes forever to respond back to you and since he has an excuse for everything he closes assignments before the due date, because he is to busy! Gives you a lot of quizzes w/ only 20 mins to take. Gives ??? as his feedback. Not willing to help very nonchalant. Stay far away as possible you will regret taking him
The class is very interesting although I don't think the Professor puts up much effort in "teaching" it, he doesnt answer questions timely and doesnt grade papers for weeks after they were submitted. Quizzes are 20 minutes for 25 questions. and exams are 75 re-worded answers to the same questions. Be prepeared to teach yourself
One of the most soft spoken professors there is at BC. If you cannot manage atleast a C in his class, then this major is not for you. One of Marins specialty in teaching Biology is it has no correlation to anything that is on his Exams. F*** this professor even though i got an A in his class i taught myself everything from the Bio Book... Garbage.
Prof Marin is the sweetest - he actually cares about his students. Keep in mind this class is a Lab, so you will have to work for your grade and at least know what you're doing to pass. Every class is routine, but make sure that you study for the quizzes (which are at the beginning of every class) They are 75% of your grade! Overall great professor
75 question exams. This requires A LOT of reading. Some of the questions aren't even found in the book. He words his tests so difficult. He does offer extra credit but you really need to do good on exams
Great teacher a lot of work and great lectures (if you like the subject) he bumped my grade one letter grade (two points away) at the end of semester and very grateful.
Prof Marin is incredibly nice and smart but just not the best teacher. He is bad at explaining concepts in lecture, and everything is from a powerpoint. 75 question tests that are worded to be more difficult than it actually is. You basically need to teach yourself, read the chapters word for word and do all the extra credit possible to pass.
excellent professor, I took BIO I and the Lab with him for the short session of summer, "lot of work", but if you want to learn, he is perfect.
He's really nice, funny and smart but not a good lecture in my opinion. He makes it unnecessarily hard for you to get an A in this subject and tests are brutal. He talks a lot and goes off topic. The textbook, extra credit and office hours are a MUST if you want to pass. I would avoid unless this is the only class you're taking and can give 110%.
He is tough but fair, gives a lot of extra credit. The test are tough but doable if you put in the time to study. Learn the concepts and don't miss class and you'll be fine. It is not easy but in reality if this class is difficult for some, wait until you start taking much harder classes. He helps you understand how tough it can get. Good luck.
Interesting class, fair teacher. Not much alarmist bs (so glad). Useful stuff to learn. Cons: teacher gives no feedback, grades hw 2-3 months later, no actual textbook, lots of research, free materials are not enough for heavy exams. Study & memorize quizzes to pass exams. Gives extra credits(I didn't need it tho) Got A. Definitely would take again
DON'T take him if this is the only class you need left to get your degree and DON'T take him in shorter semesters. He tried to shove everything in like it was a normal full semester course. He's nice and sweet though and willing to help. You really need to memorize the textbook and tests are hard, confusing, and long. They were like over 75 ques.
the worst class I have ever taken. I thought this lab would be easy considering it is one credit but no he makes it almost impossible to pass. The quizzes are with 75% of your grade, they can have 5-16 questions and you only have ten minutes including a graph or table. Never take him
LIKE ANY OTHER BIO CLASS, IT WASNT EASY. YOU DO HAVE TO STUDY AND REVIEW EVERYTHING BUT HE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU DO BETTER. NOT AN EASY CLASS BUT HE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR LEARNED A LOT FROM HIM
His lectures are pointless since theyre from the book publisher and only show concepts (hes doesnt create his PowerPoint/lecture). Nothing really explained in class, you have to teach yourself the material from the books. Dont take if youre taking other hard classes, this requires an unreal amount of your time. Hes mediocre at best.
An easy A if you showed up for lectures and paid attention. The lab reports can be tedious but dont worry because he isnt a harsh grader on those. Quizzes are 75% of the grade and are on the previous lab but all the answers are in report/ what he goes over in class and there are review questions attached to each lab. Very caring & funny guy!!
I do not enjoy Prof. Marin. He's a nice guy, but he's not great at explaining concepts. He rambles alot, then tries to shove everything in at the last minute. READ THE TEXTBOOK, you'll need it as he does not cover much in the lecture. The Sackheim book is great. Dont take with another hard class or during short session, unless its your only class
Professor Marin is mediocre. He skips around around a lot of topics during lecture, he has poor time management. He taught one of the chapters in 10 min. He added 15 extra points to overall grade just before the final, which dropped everyones grade by 2-3 percent. This guy lacks the organization to teach a 6 week class. Dont take him.
Prof. Marin takes his job seriously and expects the same from you. While he is tough, biology isn't an easy subject. He does allow you to get extra credit with an optional workbook and it's obvious he wants you to succeed. Marin is an understanding man but he sees right through lies and excuses. If you want to learn, he's the man for you.
Dr. Marin is SUPER great ! He takes the time to really explain all the labs, he gives quizzes every class but if you do the lab reports then you should be fine. He is super sweet and funny, really gonna miss being in his class.
Prof Marin is amazing. He might come off as scary at first but he is nice. The only thing about the labs is that they are very long and students barely have time to finish it all. However, he is very lenient in grading lab reports and pre-labs. The quizzes are sometimes tricky. Make sure you review the lab manual before each quiz. 10/10 recommend
This was an online course. Only assigned 12 weeks of work for the 16-week semester. Only communicates with students when necessary, doesn't leave feedback on assignments. Does the bare minimum as a professor and takes forever to grade things. Offers a little bit of extra credit. Overall an easy class but not an enjoyable one.
Professor was late quite a few times and times would at times run of time to finish lecture. This class tests were pretty tough usually 75 questions. Do the extra credit because it will help with the final grade. Teacher knows his material but the delivery falls a bit short. I had to get a private tutor to help me pass.
He is one of a kind. I love him and I feel so lucky to be inspired by him. His quizzes are extremely difficult, mostly because the material is very boring and hard. As he always says, these classes are to teach you how to learn!! He can guide you like a father so make sure you get some advice from him. I LOVE YOU PROF MARIN.
He was very bad teacher and tough professor, because he may think u are a superhuman person that dont have anything else to do in life just he class!! So many unnecessary assignments
One of the best lab professors i ve ever had. He makes you work extra hard than usual but that extra work will make you learn more than you think and you will know your way around a lab by the end. The quizzes are hard but it s always questions you have answered before. The prof is amazing and explains everything. I would take him again and again.
Great all around professor but this class was hard. Bio is never easy. He will lecture but can explain every chapter. He is organized but the test are approx 60-80 questions. Alot of material is covered , this class can be passed but not easy A or B.
By far the hardest lab class I have taken. BIO 2011 is nothing like BIO2010. There were 2 practicals which were hard and 80 questions each practical. I could not believe this class even required a practical this long and not even one multiple choice question. My chem lab was easier then this .
Dr. Marin was an above average professor to have. Very knowledgeable and straight forward individual. However, he can get easily consumed or distracted by in-class conversation, and as a result, time is lost in lecture.
This class in general is a lot. The professor is good. Just please make sure to study the labs Im detail for your detailed lab quizzes and start studying early for the practical.
He's a little too harsh. Biology is a very easy course, but he is scared you won't learn so he makes everything unnecessarily difficult and adds a lot of extra work to make you "learn". We would have a pre-lab assignment, pre-lab quiz, post-lab quiz, and the lab assignment itself every single week. If you have him study your lab extra hard...
Took this class during quarantine so we learned through remote learning. This is an exam/quiz heavy class. This being his first time teaching remote I do believe he was not prepared the exam was ridiculously hard and very little time was given to complete such exams. The professor will only respond to emails if he is in the mood.
This is the worst teacher i ever had. He is not willing to work with the students. His lectures and study guides do not match what the test are about. If you tell him that you need more guidance as far as whats on the actual test, he wont care to listen and will just give busy work instead of helping. he gives everyone different quizzes and test
I had taken Dr. Marin for bio 1&2 both lecture & lab. All classes were remote learning. There is a lot of information that is going to be covered in little time. He uses lockdown browser, NOT Honor lock. So you will not be recorded during exams or quizzes. There's a lot of reading & exams are about 70 Qs. He's a sweet prof & really understanding!
I took him via remote learning due to COVID. He's not a good professor, especially if you struggle with Bio. He's a bit too fast during lectures and gives a quiz for every lesson. YOU NEED THE TEXTBOOK, YOU WON'T SURVIVE WITHOUT IT! Tests are long and you don't get an ideal amount of time; takes a long time to answer emails. The grading isn't bad
This professor is a nightmare. He tends to go really fast and go off on unnecessary tangents. That really dilutes the lesson and you end up with too much information to actually process. His tests are worth a lot and he makes them extremely difficult on purpose to make sure you understand the material. If you ask for help prepare to be shot down.
Do not take this man class. All the negative comments are true. You will have 75 questions on the exam and 75 minutes to take it. Do not do it to yourself. He will not make or have a study guide all you do is read the book and lectures. This class is too stressful and it's an easy subject. He makes it hard. Don't do it to yourself
Even with reading the entire chapter and listening to the lectures and taking notes. Still failed the tests. His questions are ridiculous and don't come from the lecture material or textbook. Its 75 questions and you only get 75 minutes, cant go back to previous questions. Professor does not believe in study guides, says they don't work.
This Professor is hands down the worst professor I have ever had the chance to be a student of. He doesn't teach and his quizzes and test questions come from some unknown source. Thankfully he doesn't use Honorlock so you can google your way through. I got a 99% in the lecture and struggled to get a B in his lab. HIGHLY ADVISE staying away!
Professor Marin is good, I took Biology Lab with him, the labs are easy, only you have to makes your notes, because you will have a quiz about that, but its not that hard. If you missed something or make a mistake he will help you. I think is a good professor, he cares about students.
Doesnt really teach, just gives so much homework and quizzes every class. The quizzes are extremely difficult and have no Correlation to the labs, dont take if you wannna learn.
This is professor is very understanding. He replaced your final grade with your midterm, if your final grade is higher. I attendance is mandatory because he does give participation points. So if you miss class you wont get points that day. His classes in the quiz -based there is no homework its only 10 quizzes, midterm & final exam
Professor Nilo Marin is wonderful! He is really carry about his students! At the beginning I didn't understand his strategy of teaching, it took couple weeks for me... Everything is easy - just study and you'll pass your exams. Even it was short summer semester, it was a pleasure to study Lab with this professor! Good luck to everybody!
Goes on autopilot, monotone voice, boring, doesn't really give work arounds which this semester the only thing he did to help the students was replace the midterm with the final and that's it no curves, rounding, nothing. Doesn't really care about grades and it's like he's not human.
His tests are very difficult, you don't read the book you won't pass. Lectures are either fast or slow, with no in-between.
Very kind professor, he does tend to talk a lot at the beginning of labs so just prepare yourself. Quizzes are 75% of your grade so just make sure you review lab reports before class and you'll do well. If you're not a morning person I suggest you try to take a later time block because although he's nice this is not an enjoyable class at 8 am.
Professor gives quizzes at the beginning of class, from the class before. Labs are interesting and he is very caring and helpful. I would recommend taking him but not an easy A course.
You are going to be graded on attendance, quizzes, 2 practical exams, and lab worksheets (easy grader). Reading the labs, taking pictures, and asking questions will literally save your life! He drops the lowest quiz and changes your practical exams to the highest one. The class is not boring because it is all hands-on and interactive. Good luck!!

Professor Marin is a kind person do not get me wrong. But there's so many times that I'm in his class and were doing a lab and I feel lost, & as if I'm teaching myself. If you're not a good test taker do not pick this class. All of the grades that we get for this class is exam based and with how he teaches I feel as though that is unacceptable.
Professor Marin gave wonderful lectures and took multiple approaches to explain a topic making it universal for students to understand. Great class, very respectable, but not easy! You will need to study and do lots of reading but that's just STEM classes in general.
i took Professor Marin to MCB2010L, the class in not easy. there are no textbooks. utube videos. the professor was very nice and comprehensive to extend time on assignments and exams due to family life. there is no debut the professor cares about his student. he also responds in timely manner. i wish i took his lecture class
Honestly, the quizzes he gives us are terrible and it's every week, the lab itself is fun but he waits the entire lab time regardless if we finish early or not. In addition, he took 1-2 months to grade our lab reports and grades them so dramatically it's just a stressful class, but if you care about biology a lot then you'll do fine.
Honestly, it's like every other STEM class! You have to read the textbook and chapters and he does a wonderful job tying his lecture to the book. The quizzes are done are home and the tests are not bad, you just have to read and study.
He's very nice and open to answering as many questions that you need answered, but he takes forever to grade the lab reports so you never know how you're doing in class. Sometimes some questions on the reports aren't even taught in class and (personally) some of the things were hard to look up. Overall, he's good, I just wish he graded sooner.
Study hard and smart. Module exams: 75Q, covers 3-4 chapters. Questions are from the same pool as the individual chapter exams. Take pics of Q/A's of chapter exams and exchange with classmates for bigger pool of questions for module exams. Optional cumulative final, replaces lowest exam grade.
Professor Marin insisted that instead of doing labs per the manual we do them his way. As a result, many of our labs didn't work as they should've and he claimed that it was because of user error. He was not very encouraging and did not respond well to questions. He didn't grade anything until the last week of the semester. Test heavy, study hard.
Nilo is a nice and reasonable professor-without an ego. This is the most content heavy class I took at BC, so make sure you do all of the readings. You will get a great biology foundation with him. You will see a lot of bad reviews from pre meds who did not put in the work and were "weeded out". You need to put in effort. Highly reccomend for CA.
This is one of those professors who could not care one thing about your actual learning. Just do the modules and call it a day. He's non existent. Barely communicates. Takes forever to reply to emails. All the work is memorization. Zero multiple choice for a LaB
One try for quizzes. Uses Lockdown Browser for quizzes which is just dumb. Didn't work with my Chromebook for 2 months (on their end) and he didn't care. I needed EC and he said no. Has a serious attitude. Just an all around nasty professor.
If I could give zero stars I would, I am currently taking this course and the professor requires you to learn a butt load of chapters in the span of a week. He never answers his emails so if you are struggling in the class good luck. All test are on honor lock so no trying to look at your notes during exams. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE.
Professor Marin is definitely smart and knowledgeable but he expects his students to know everything just like he does. He grades lab reports extremely hard and takes off for minor mistakes. The tests are very hard because he does not make any sort of study guide and you have to teach yourself the material.
I loved Dr. Marin's bio class. He taught very well, detailed and knowledgeable on the subject. You can tell that he cares about his students and wants them to learn. He was always helpful. He motivated me and gave me advice that helped me become a better student. His tests are difficult but as long as you study the book, you should do well.
I took professor Marin for BSC 2010 lecture and lab. He is kind and is open to giving you multiple chances. His lecture was very easy with little homework however reading on your own is necessary for the tests. His lab class is significantly more work than the lecture but again he is very forgiving. He gives extra credit and will reopen assignments
Amazing professor, most definitely the most lenient. He has extra credit options, take advantage! He will accept late submissions it asked. Prepare to read chapter on chapter though. Grades are quiz/homework heavy, tests take only 40% of grade. Do work early on, its a lot if it gets piled up.
Took Marin for both BSC2010 and BSC2011 in one summer. The class is very crammed if you're taking 6-weeks. Homework definitely matters, takes1-2 hours per chapter. He has extra credit for both classes but don't fall behind, the tests are long and covers everything
Nilo's bio class is tough but rewarding. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and use tools like unstuckstudy to excel. Tests are challenging, but put in the work and you'll learn a lot. Definitely worth the effort.
Informational lessons but a lot of information all at once. All tests and quizzes have no multiple choice whatsoever.
Excellent lab prof! Before every lab, he would explain exactly how EACH STEP should be done. Literally just pay attention. He's always willing to clarify during the lab, too. He also provided the lab reports/info online so we didn't have to pay for them. He's a bit of a tough grader, but if you're thorough in your explanations, you'll be fine.
Lecture heavy and quizzes are very dense with only 2 tries of 15min. A lot of assignments, but there is not a lot of questions to prepare for test unless you pay 100 dollars for the Sackheim book that mentions in class. The class can be difficult without it. You can try using Khan to practice questions if don't want to pay extra for the book.
Professor Marin is a fair professor and everything is straightforward. His course content includes everything you need to successfully pass his quizzes and exams. The class requires a lot of memorization but actually is rewarding once you realize how much you've learned. His powerpoints are your go to, to successfully pass the class. Good luck.
Amazing professor, he truly cares about you understanding. He's super funny and I was scared to take him because of other ratings but after doing so I can tell it was from people who were prob not happy with their grade. Very easy class if you just listen and it's interactive so you're not sitting for over an hour just silent.
Professor was not the most present but understanding. Only thing I hated was the shirt amount of time to do assignments. It was very unrealistic
There is lots of work to do and not always plenty of time to do it. It was doable however stressful at times. Not the worst science class though! it was interesting and pretty engaging for an online course!
Not a good teacher his tests and quizzes are extremely difficult I would study for his quizzes that he had every week and make my own detailed notes and still didn't pass any.i had to withdraw
This class required a lot of memorization and study time, but the professor managed the workload well. Virtual labs and APR activities were helpful and graded. Weekly quizzes came with clear topic lists to study, and the lowest quiz grade was dropped. Grading criteria were clear, and emails were answered quickly. Great professor for a tough class.
Communication: Professor Nilo may not respond to emails immediately. Grading Timeline: There are often delays in the grading of quizzes and exams. Grading Criteria: He is a rigorous grader with high standards for assignments. Grade Flexibility: Professor Nilo adheres strictly to the grading scale and no extra credit
