I thought that he was a very hard marker. I found that he also was not clear on essay expectations. Our class topic was pretty interesting but there was alot of work.

He is passionate about english. He can get off topic very easy. He did offer alot of comments on essay.
Classes were basically useless to go to. You could probably do the essays from what you learned in highschool and stil get the same mark as if you went to class.

He's an unreasonably tough marker and quite strange. I am a professional writer and he gave my essay a bare passing mark. I wish I had known this before the drop deadline, he is ruining my gpa. However, he -is- passionate about english and very nice.
He rambles constintly, and does not answer questions clearly. He runs around the subject before giving you a one word answer. Most of what he talks about has nothing to do with English, and he does not stick with the syllabus he hands out.
I don't know WHY you ppl are criticizing Dr Clausson so much!! True, he's tough and expects a lot from his students, but he is also very friendly if you ask for help. I like his lectures, cuz he is always cheerful and seems very smart. He's a good prof!
i'd suggest a different prof. for most first year students taking english 100!
Those students who've given Dr. Clausson bad ratings are all complainers & probably lazy. Yes, he marks hard, but he's also an excellent professor with high standards. His lectures are great, extremly well organized and full of interesting ideas. I WOULD take another class from him, in a minute.
To the person below. Go ahead and take another class from him, if you can understand what he talks about, then I worry that there are more like him.
Dr. C's marking is tough, but his feedback is dead-on. I used to get 70's on my essays (in other classes) but thanks to his brutal discipline, I am now getting high 90's. You won't like him if you are lazy. But if you want to become an awesome writer and scholar, take his class. You won't regret it.
Bad teacher, marks hard
He was terribly hard to follow and talked about things that had nothing to do with the class or the readings. He is also a very hard marker and very boring to listen to.
I didn't like this class, but he taught the material as well anyone could, in my opinion. He's the only English instructor to not give me an A on a paper, but I didn't deserve one.
He was a very nice prof and rather helpful, very easy to talk with..... but he marked extremely hard.... I had to work damn hard to get my final high 60 mark. A lot of assignments too... 1, 2 or even one time 3 essays due in one week... if you are prepared to work you ass off, then take his class
Nice guy, a bit absent-minded, but very thorough. Started off the class with okay marks, worked my ass off and finally received an A, so it's not as if he's *too* tough.
Terrible prof. Stutter, no class discussion, very boring. Had 2 essay topics for essay on Romanticism. Both were on an author who had very little to do with the period. Marks incredibly hard. Cannot deviate from his ruberick of what a paper should look like. I have taken 300 levels and gotten better marks! First years - BEWARE!
This professor is the worst! He is avoidant and unclear. I missed his final due to unforseen circumstances, and he avoided all my emails and phone calls as I tried desperately to get in touch with him. HE RUINED MY GPA! This is totally unacceptable. Learn to teach. Don't take his class if you can avoid it, you'll regret it!
Extremely hard marker. Perhaps the most annoying voice ever - I still hear it in my nightmares.
Attending his classes you will find everything that is awful about school. He is the most boring, unfocused, and hardest marker you will come by. Get out if you can!
Very boring, constantly speaks in metaphors.He has the tendency to get off topic and go off about ?????. He marks very HARD. If you have any problems with grammar , do not take his class. If you get a 60 or 65 in his class you are doing excellent. Warning....find another prof.I wish I had.
Is obviously very intelligent but he expects too much from his students. The order of his sylabys should be rearranged. It would be more helpful if he taught essay composition ect at the start of the semester. Boring!!
WORST PROF EVER!!!!! Constantly went off topic talking about random things that weren't relevant to anything. It is so BORING!! He expects that students know everything about english when they start the class, which is why he marks super hard. If you pull of a 60% in the class that is amazing. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! Big mistake to pick this professor, even if essays are grammatically flawless and written well you will still have a very hard time pulling off an A.
Hard to understand he stutters alot!! Super hard marker. His lectures are boring and even if you do spend alot of time on your essay you won't do good. Exams are hard. Please find another prof, even change ur schedule if you have to!

When I saw the ratings for this prof, I was kind of scared, but I decided to see for myself what he was like. Let me be the first to say that these bad ratings are WRONG!!! The prof is passionate for his subject, doesn't stutter, and seems very approachable. Figure out what profs you like for yourself! Don't follow the 100 level ratings!
Good prof because he knows what he is teaching, and after you write the first essay, it is very clear what he expects ont he next essays...your very best. Don't try to write night before essays,believe me, they don't work. If you ask for help and take in a rough draft, you'll get some helpful feedback.

If you can help it DO NOT sign up to be in this profs. class he is a horrible teacher and very hard marker which is relected in you marks. Expect at least 10% lower grad in his class as compared to other english classes.
A nice enough guy but a hard course. Be prepared to hand in an essay the second week of classes and every two weeks afterwards. He is helpful to go talk to. A VERY hard marker. Most will fail the first essay. Very hard to please. Learned a lot about writing essays. Watch out first years.
He only asked rhetorical or irrelevant questions, and then would pause for an obscene amount of time before someone took pity and answered. He got off track easily, but instead of being amusing, it became infuriating. He's a very difficult marker, even though his course was so basic and simple that I wanted to strangle myself to escape the madness.
Expects well argued papers, and rewards such with good grades. Very willing to help you edit, and very receptive to unique essay proposals/ideas. Comes across as a bit pompous and tends to dominate class lectures, but never unfriendly. Lectures are a bit haphazard, but chock full of information. The trick is to digest it all before finals.
This man should be a hipnotist, his voice can put anyone to sleep within seconds. Expect grades at least 10% lower than you would recieve from any other prof.
Detective fiction is his personal interest, so 110 wasn't a bad class. All the same, though, some parts of the final seemed bizarre, and final exam essay topics were very specific despite not being able to bring the textbook to the exam. Requires clear memory of most short stories read during the semester. I neither recommend nor warn against it.
He often quotes himself. Gets off topic. Contradicts himself, marks boarderline unfairly. Is brilliant but should not be teaching. Class felt like cruel unusual torture. Expects extreme memorization.
Wow, Dr.C is tough but, when its all said and done you will be a better writer. Essays, lots of essays and then there will be more essays. I worked really hard at first, then quit working hard and got roughly the same marks. Hard as hell but, I enjoyed the class.
He would wander around stumbling and mumble about various topics unrelated to the class. He announced on the first day that nobody in the class would get higher than a 70 in the class and over 50% of the class failed the first essay. If I could go back in time I would change my schedule to avoid him for sure.

Caution!!! all First year Students. I am not sure how is he Teaching a higher level. but he is way too much for a 100 level class. so my request to all first year students are to Avoid HIM. you will be doing the greatest favor on your self. I agree with every one. still wanted to let my Voice out. and i request from all new student to Avoid Him

While he does tend to ramble, and you may hate him during first year, I love this man. He is the reason I get such good marks on my essays now. You'll learn a lot from him. Plus, he's kinda funny and cute (puppy dog type) in an older gentleman way.
Totally incompetent. Incredible audacity, clearly did not even take the time to read good essays unless they are what he personally liked. Corrects grammatically correct sentences, changes words to his taste, instead of taking the time to absorb interesting ideas. Dr. Clausson is obviously an extremely intelligent man, which leads to some of his off-topic tangents about lesser topics. However, those of you who were too busy crying ask for help missed out on the fact that if you show initiative and meet with him. He's very helpful.
This professor will remain imprinted in your memory for the rest of your life if only you take the time to listen.
Often just reads from essays that he has written or from others. Very little discussion and interaction. He can never make up his mind about what he wants on essays. Is a very hard marker and doesn't allow you any room for improvement. This is my second class with him and I don't recommend it.
Long story short... bad prof. University of Regina hiring officials, you should be ashamed of yourself.
I went into this class expecting great things and was very disappointed. His lectures weren't organized, nor were they clear to the students. His grading is scattered and throughout the course, myself, along with some other classmates were unsure of his expectations on essays. Get him to clarify things if you're unsure!
