Enjoyed her as a professor. She was very good at explaining concepts in lecture making the material easy to understand. However the class is very time consuming with weekly labs, quizzes, textbook homework, and online homework. The exams are also somewhat challenging and long and you are only given 1 hour exactly. However the class is very fair.
Her class wasn't difficult since I had a great TA and I took AP chemistry, but it could definitely be hard if you don't have either. There are 1000 points you can accumulate throughout the semester and only 550 are exam grades. If you don't do well on exams, your homework and lab grades make up for it.
I had taken chemistry in high school which definitely helped me in this class. If I had not taken chemistry prior to this class I would've had a much harder time. I had to do a lot of studying outside of class in order to re-learn and fully understand the material. You need to buy the textbook and the notes that are given outline the chapters.
She is a very nice lady, however not the best teacher. She can be confusing at times when explaining how to do problems especially math related ones. Probably would not take this class again
Niluka is a nice lady, but she made the lectures hard to understand because she doesn't speak ENGLISH. I struggled in the class and went to her for extra help but she was no help. Don't take a class with Niluka it'll kill you.
Dr. Niluka has a heavy accent. However, she talks slowly and you get used to it after the first week. Aside from that, though, Dr. Niluka goes slowly over the material and makes sure she answers any questions before moving on to the next PowerPoint slide. She knows her stuff and makes an effort to remember the names and faces of her students.
Dr. Niluka made sure to explain things slowly and carefully to make sure that everyone in class was understanding her. She went over many examples and her power points were also very helpful. She posted chapter power points before going every chapter. Overall, very good professor and good teaching skills.
She is simply one of the best Chem professors. She explains very well, and specifically the Chem concepts. I really enjoyed her class and leaned a lot. She is very approachable and willing to spend more time in explaining difficult chapters during office hours.
She was excellent, she put an extra effort to teach us Chem. I'm not a chem major but i really understood some of the things that i was not familiar. She speaks slow, so we were able to follow her easily.
She is good, very nice and approachable. she gives lot of options for you to score such as extra credits and home work.
she did a great job. She goes deep into Chemistry concepts, so it's very easy to understand.
Dr. Wasalathanthri is very nice, she always makes sure that her students understand concepts, and she shows that she cares about the students. Her class does go slower than the other classes, though. She quickly responds to emails, and overall is a great person. I would recommend her for 1128
Simply, she's cool.
Dr. W is cool, very nice.
Absolutely the worst chemistry Professor UConn has hired only took her because I had no choice if I could do it again I would not take it with her .
She is a very stern Professor but if you get past that you can learn a lot from her and get an A . Just have to be dedicated to studying and wanting to learn and suceeed .
Dr. W is a very good Chem prof., but you need to do your home work
Pros- very good Chemistry prof. Knows what she's talking about. Very pleasant and approachable. Cons-She assumes you understand the math well. Overall-good
Not only is she the most adorable lady in the world, she is an amazing professor. Much better than other chem profs at UConn. She has clicker questions during lecture , but they are easy. Her exams are extremely fair and she is always willing to meet outside of class. My favorite professor I have had at UConn thus far. Love her so much.
This professor is by far superior to other chemistry professors. Her lectures are so amazing, and she makes you understand concept, making the problems and applying concepts to them easier- something other chem profs at UConn do not do. She is also very nice (went as far to memorize all 500ish students' names) and gives great feedback.
Dr. Wasalathanthri has been my favorite professor so far, she's an amazing lecturer and willing to help anyone outside class until you really understand the content. I feel like I've learned so much from this class and would definitely take her again. She has clicker questions and fair exams; you'll have to work hard but she wants you to do well
She is the best..!
Dr W is a very good professor. She is approachable outside the class for any help and she gives very good feedback. Her exams are not that hard.
Enjoyed taking her for Chemistry! She was very good in explaining topics. Will take her again for 1128. My grade is currently in the A range (writing this during midterms) but I am sure that I will end with a good grade. Definitely take her.
Dr. Niluka is awesome! Definitely take 1128 with her if you get the chance. Her lectures are really good and she goes over a lot of examples, some of which show up on the exam.
Prof. Wasalathanthri is amazing, but the course is extremely difficult in my opinion. If you have to take chem at uconn, go with her as she is friendly and cares about your success. Participation matters, if you don't keep up with the practice problems and get behind in your understanding of the material, you will get destroyed by the exams.
Wasalathanthri is amazing! She turns a difficult subject into one you can understand. Still requires work and studying to do well, but she makes it all the more enjoyable. Is very open about office-hours and clear about course work too. One of the best!
Dr. W is very cool. Chem is always a trouble for me, but she did a great job in teaching the course.
I took Chem this summer, she is a great prof. I highly recommend for Chemistry.
She is a real sweetheart. The lectures can be boring, but she does her best to make them interesting. She uses the clicker during class for attendance. The labs are easy if you have a good TA. I recommend doing the books/class problems, they are very helpful. She really wants people to do well, and she even tries and know your name too.
Professor W is such a helpful, kind and smart person. She explains difficult topics in an easy to understand way, gives lots of helpful practice problems, and answers questions well. Fair grader. Tries to learn your name which is so sweet of her. It is doable to get an A. Post video lectures online if u miss class, but she class iclicker stuff too.
She is a great professor. I would have to say she is the best chemistry professor in the department! Just make sure you take her in the off semester. I would suggest everyone taking Chemistry with her. Therefore, try to take chem 1127Q in the spring and chem1128Q in the fall! Best decision I have ever made.
She seems like a kind person, however, she is not understanding when it comes to grading. On one exam, most students failed and emailed her with concerns. She only replied with the same email to everyone and provided no help. She follows the criteria very strictly. She is a nice person though, just a horrible professor.
Dr. W is a wonderful professor. The course is lecture heavy but she explains the concepts very well. I would highly recommend her if you want to take Chem1127 and 1128.
Best chem prof. ever..! Shes awesome. She covers the chapters well during the class.
If you need good grades, you gotta take the course with Dr. Niluka. Shes a really nice person, very responsive to emails and stuff.
Pretty unfair grader. Labs aren't bad but tests are hard. No curve
Cool Prof., lecture heavy, but she is always willing to help and available outside of the class.
Dr. W is a good professor in my opinion. Shes very knowledgeable, nice and always available outside of the class. I used to get help during her office hours. Shes a fair grader, and some of the exam questions were very much like what we discussed during the class. What I have learned that, if you skip classes its harder to catch up.
This woman should not be teaching. It amazes me how she has a job as a professor. She has no idea how to connect with students and effectively communicate the hard topics in 1127, and is very hard to understand. I'd switch classes if I was you to another 1127 professor. The material is very hard, and there is a lot of HW. Exams are tough as well.
She is very knowledgeable, nice person in my opinion. I havent had chance to interact her 1:1 alot except couple of office hours, but she was very nice and was able help me with some of the lecture questions.
The course was tough, but Dr W. made it interesting. After we went online due the pandemic, the things were Okey.
She may be hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. Dr. N is really nice and will work with you if you don't understand the material. Although the first exam may seem easy, the next two are a lot harder so don't be fooled and stay on top of your work. Labs are generally easy as long as you follow directions.
Dr. Wasalathanthri is a great teacher. Chemistry is not my subject, I always struggled Chem in the past, but this course wasnt bad for me because Dr. W did a great job. She explains very well, lot of HW to practice problems. Shes a tough grader though, no eazy peezy marks.
Prof. W is simply awesome. The course was online because of the pandemic. She was available at the office hours to answer millions of questions i had. I would highly recommend her if you want to take CHEM 1127. I think she offers 1128 as well.
She really breaks up the material well and goes step by step into explanations
Best professor ever..!
Dr. W teaches chemistry concepts very well. 45% of her grade is easy (HW, Lab and participation). 55% is exams which are more tricky. 3 are multiple choice, 3 are longer chem problems and 1 final exam. Make sure to watch your units and understand all the concepts. PLEASE take advantage of the TAs. All of them were extremely helpful and nice.
She is so nice and I loved her when I had her in person, but the online class sucks. Tests were fine until the last one were she changed it to be more conceptual questions. Labs were totally useless and a waste of 3 hours. Homeworks took a really long time and she doesn't drop the lowest grade. Lecture videos are soooo long
Exams in this class is everything, you could have 100 in participation, HW, and quizzes and it would mean nothing if you dont get atleast a 70 on all 3 exams and the final. I dont know what section these other ratings are coming from but I didnt get what they got and I had a bad TA. Wouldnt take this professor again.
Professor W is awesome. Well organized lectures. I did well.
Chem is not my thing, I always struggled in Chem in the past. But Prof W was so good. Im seriously considering going for a Chem major. If you want to take 1128, take with her. Shes nice as a person too.
Great professor. No complaints. Lecture heavy, but worth it.
I took 1128 with her. She is an amazing teacher, I went through her online lectures multiple times, and they were clear and easy to understand. Her exams are tough but I enjoyed the class.
Dr. W is fantastic, she always makes time to answer your questions and is always available to assist you. She selects very qualified TA's and is very considerate of your other responsibilities as a student. Chemistry 1 was incredibly easy for me and Dr. W does a great job keeping you on track with your assignments and exams.
Harsh grader. The class average for the second exam was around a 60, and she didn't think this was an issue. Took this online. Labs were very simple since you got 2 chances on the quizzes. The exams are very difficult, need to do many practice problems otherwise you will not do well. Attend TA office hours and redo every exam question you get wrong
She's a very nice professor & what she teaches is just a hard material and I think that's where people don't like her. Yes, the material is definitely something you have to study for, but if you actually do the work and pay attention, you'll be fine. I'd say she's average for a college professor, however please do not get her mad you'd get scolded
Took this course with her for the first time, and Im really impressed. She is an amazing Chem professor. I would highly recommend if you want to take any Chem courses.
Dr W is a nice professor, she was always available for my questions outside of the class hours. She covers lot of material during lectures, so if you miss classes you will find the course difficult.
Dr. W's lectures were often surface level with a large discrepancy between reviewed material and test questions. I found myself referencing my AP Chem notes from high school instead of my notes from this class because they just weren't helpful. Dr. W is nice enough as a person but her teaching style was not helpful. Never gave enough time for tests
She is a nice professor, but she way she teaches (honestly most of the department though) is not ideal whatsoever and office hours typically confused me more. I find myself going to other sources to learn. Also, I could do every homework and study guide question correctly but the exams are absolutely ridiculous and inaccurate of learning ability.
Although prof W provides a lot of homework, it helps a lot during exams. She also hands out worksheets in class which are incredibly helpful, these worksheets are pretty much the exams. She doesn't check for attendance, but provides no students incentives that dont show up. If you dont show up, you don't get the worksheets. 3 exams, 1 final.
As someone who has hated chemistry all my life, she is actually making me enjoy it. She is a great teacher and is really nice. Goes through the material slowly and does a lot of example problems in class. You really need to go to class though and fully focus and take notes because they really help for the weekly HW and the exams.
This class is a hot mess. Test class averages were always in the 60s range and the prof never cared. Nothing is done to help improve students understanding. The exams were insanely difficult for no reason, study material and review guides were almost completely useless for exams. Prof taught at middle school level but tested at med school level.
Prof W only gives worksheets to those who come in person to class, and some of them can be helpful when studying. Class averages for the exams are in the 60s, and she does not seem to be helping students out who are struggling. This class is also very fast paced, and we had an exam coming back from thanksgiving break.
Dr. W is an okay professor. Lectures were okay, the only helpful portion of them was when she solved problems, which typically ended up on the tests. Dr. W is reluctant to accommodate personal circumstances that may impact attendance, which can be a big issue as you can only miss one lab before you automatically fail the class. Overall, meh.
This class alone is so hard. She was a nice professor but I didn't really like the way she taught the lectures so I did a lot of supplemental learning on my own. She was just average, nothing outstanding about her teaching style. Her quizzes were really difficult though and they were weekly. The exams were so hard but i think its the same for all
Dr W is awesome. I liked the class overall. Lots of course materials.
Nice proffesor but would not recommend taking this professor. Half of the class grade is made up of labs, quizzes, and hw while the other half is exams. She gave out worksheets that sometimes came handy but you still had to teach yourself most of the topics. I felt the exams to be extremely difficult, the class average for exams were in the 60s.
In a post-Covid world, shes a nightmare. Average exam scores were 63-65 and blamed it on us not knowing how to learn properly from Covid. Base exams were pretty easy to understand if you consistently use the worksheet problems as well as textbook problems. I did horrible on exams but did well in lab and homework (quizzes can all be chegged)
Tough course for me, but Prof. Niluka did a great job. I truly learned Chem after taking her course.
This is my first time with Prof W., and Im really impressed on how she did the class. I pretty much attended almost all of her lectures and the material she covered was not that difficult to understand. Shes so nice as a person and available outside of the class.
Dr. W is a great professor, she's very knowledgeable in what she teaches. If you took Chemistry in high school and did well, this class will be a breeze for you. I've been to every lecture, and she makes them pretty interesting and tries to be as interactive as possible with a class of 150 students.
Chem in and of itself is not for everyone. The content will not be easy for everyone, but Niluka does her best with what she's teaching. She always asks the class if we understand and is nice with questions. Based on what I've heard about other profs, she's the best option. No matter who you have though, I recommend going to the review sessions.
Professor Wasalathanthri was the best professor I've had so far in any science class! Her lecture slides were very helpful and straight forward, and her worksheets gave you exactly what to expect on the exams. If you're struggling, she gives out many resources and for me doing the online homework was very helpful.
Dr W is great, her lectures are informative. My TA was nice too.
I've always been rly bad at chemistry, but Dr. Wasalathanthri is one of the best science teachers I've ever had. She goes through lecture content at a good pace and always goes over example problems which are exactly what you can expect on exams. Weekly hw assignments can be tough sometimes but they're great practice for exams. Take her if u can!!!
TAKE THIS PROF IF U CAN. ive always hated chem but i LOVED this class. hw is 26% of ur grade, which is an easy 100. lab is 27%, & if u have a good ta, its an easy 100 as well. lab w my ta never went past an hour & she gave all the answers so we could leave quickly. i averaged an 80 on exams but cuz hw & lab weighs so much, its not hard to get an A!
Dr. Wasalathanthri might have been one of the best science teachers I've had. She is really good at explaining the concepts and makes sure that her students understand it before just moving on. She offers worksheets that other general chemistry professors have no done in the past (I took CHEM 1127 last semester and had to repeat). Very engaging.
In my section of spring 2022, the class average final course grade is 78.8%, class median: 81.6% YES, as a general education course that thousands of people take every year, nearly a HALF of the people are below C+. Imagine a normal distribution graph, if you are not confident to be in the top 20% in all 5 exams: NEVER EXPECT TO GET A
Dr W made this course easier than I thought, i was nervous at the beginning, but it was one of the best courses of this semester. I just attended all of her lectures and majority of the exam questions were from her class problems. My #1 tip to anyone who wants to take Chem with Dr W is, make sure to attend her lectures, you will be just fine.
Dr W's lectures and worksheets were all helpful for the exams. I would recommend that you attempt to attend every lecture because she does not record lectures. Great person overall
First of all, if you want to do well in this course, you have to attend lectures. We don't have lecture records online. Dr. Niluka is a great professor in lectures and office hours. She is willing answer any question even the question is outside the course requirement. A great professor for long-run developement in STEM majors.
Niluka was okay. She's a very nice person. She was good during lectures but material was honestly just hard to understand. TA helped me more than she did with understanding (Rumesha is an awesome TA). Weekly homework that seems to take forever. Get ready to study, study, and then study some more to understand this course.
Personally, I believe that she is the best STEM professor I have had so far. Her exams are fairly simple if you understand the concept and do the practice worksheets she gives in class (go to class because she doesn't record the lecture) and in the SI sessions. A lot of H.W. and labs are very easy. Didn't takethefinalyet, so don't know final mark.
Dr. W is by far the best chem professor I've ever had. Her exams are fair, and she teaches the material so well. As long as you go to lecture and do the HW/review sheets you will do more than fine in this class. She doesn't throw anything at you you've never seen before, and as long as you put in the work then you will do great! Love her to death.
She's nice as a prof, can't tell if I'm just bad at chem. She wants you to do well more or less, or more like not have a horrible average for the class, but it's tough material. However she's way too strict and harsh, genuinely wouldn't want to talk to her since shes not like a person, easy to fail, no extra credit, and condescending in emails.
Great professor, practice problems and worksheets are super helpful and just like exam questions. Exams are a mix of conceptual and quantitative problems. Make sure you attend lectures, do the homework, and study! No extra credit, just pay attention and try your best. Try the Q center if the material isn't clicking.
Loved chem till I took it with this professor. She made things way more difficult than necessary and seems to care very little about the students.
Simply excellent. Finally I learned some real Chem.
My opinion is that she is a great professor teaching a shitty course. The course is extremely long so she can only teach the basics in the lecture so you have to do a lot of studying on your own, class is very time consuming. She does try her best but its too much information to cram in the lectures. DO ALL THE HOMEWORK and try to attend lectures.
ABSOLUTE nightmare! Stay away from this instructor and course. She is consistently behind schedule, cramming entire chapters the class before midterms and finals. She lacks any genuine concern for her students' success. Refuses to give students extra practice. Test averages in the 60s. A clear reflection of her poor teaching methods.
100% one of best professors I've ever had. She's clear in teaching, doesn't rush through difficult topics, gives examples for nearly every new topic, assesses pacing based on student's understanding, genuinely cares about students, gives practice worksheets. She's open to feedback, requests students tell what is helpful/needs to change in her class
One of the best professors for a gen chem course. Lecture is not mandatory but she does gives practice worksheets in lecture (that she doesn't post online) and these worksheets are very similar to future exam problems. She cares for students and wants you to succeed. She also holds review sessions at least every week for the current week content.
great professor! she covered the material at a good pace, did practice problems, and covered the concepts of each chapter which helped for exams. i recommend using the homework, worksheets handed out in lecture and the review sessions to prepare for the exams. she also posted the lectures (no guarantee though) which was helpful while studying.
Provides worksheets in class that are very helpful. One of the best professors I have ever taken.
If you show up and do the work your grade will show it. She is approachable, her lectures simplify chemistry; if you put in an effort she notices. Test questions are predictable. She's flexible throughout the course. She will change up her style based on class polls. Simply: Do yourself a favor: If you want to do well, take Prof. Wasalathanthri.
She made learning chemistry as easy as humanely possible! She was always super supportive towards students, especially when learning lots of new material. She takes small breaks during lecture to copy down notes, ask questions, or stretch.
She was an amazing professor to have to take such a difficult course with. She even asked the class what we wanted our test grading rubrics to look like and was very receptive to feedback about her teaching. She takes small break to write down notes in lecture too. If your major requires chemistry, I would highly recommend taking her class!
She is great. Take her fs.
Took her for both 1127 and 1128 and I'm so glad I did. She puts a lot of effort into teaching her class. If you go to class and do the work, you will be good to go.
She takes up class time talking about things we don't need to know, and what info we do learn, she doesn't teach application. The homework requires ridiculous precision. She never admits fault, even when the entire class (yes, the entire class) says they don't understand something. I'm a straight A student who loves chemistry and I'm almost failing
LOVE- ppl who dislike her dont come to lecture & put in 0 effort. cares abt her students & accessible outside of class & wants u to learn. she isn't there to trick u. in lecture she gives time to finish notes, checks to make sure we r following, loves participation & gives papers that show what exam questions u may see.If u want to succeed-TAKE HER!
Kindest woman ever, however this is a difficult class. She genuinely cares about all her students and wants us to succeed. Lectures are helpful and she provides so many worksheets and examples for students to get practice. Content on exams are really hard but not impossible with a lot of studying. Class average on exams was always low. SI saved me
Was retaking 1128Q. Very caring! Makes chemistry easy to understand, exams were very similar to worksheets and examples. Final exam was very hard though.
Overall she is a very motivated professor and wants you to succeed and learn. On day 1 she says she will teach like you know no chemistry. Regarding exams, they are so lecture heavy and the content is difficult. Questions are worded very weird. GO TO SI!!! Final is a standardized test. Be ready to study a lotttt. Lab and HW are easy points.
Dr. W makes the course hard for the wrong reasons. The course material is not that hard to understand. However, the amount of monotonous, repetitive work assigned makes the course more difficult than it has to be. Dr. W is helpful and would get a 3 from me, but she assigned something during finals week, which is not cool.
HORRIBLE PROF, like seriously don't take it with her, she explains decent but the exams are so much different from her lectures. LIKE I KEEPT failing even after reviewing so much and studying so hard.
One of the best profs I've had, and different from many as she truly wants students to succeed. Extremely caring and responds to emails right away. Most lectures are recorded & informative with many examples, so if you come/watch you'll pass. Cengage HW is once a week and a bit tedious, but it prepares you well for exams and boosts your grade.
She is an amazing lecturer. Her lectures are very easy to follow. She allows time for us to take notes. Posts every material after class as well as slides.
If you're debating on taking her, do it! I retook 1127 with her and ended up passing with an A because of the final curve. She hands out worksheets during her lectures which is helpful, and she pauses to let us take notes which is nice. My only problem was that the exams were hard despite studying and going to SI, but her grade plan pulled through.
If you plan on taking 1127 please take it with her. After having to withdraw during fall, taking it with her was the best decision ever. She had very generous curves and was always in a good mood to help during office hours. Keep in mind 1127 is a very difficult class but taking it with Dr. Niluka can make it a bit more manageable.
Just prepare for extremely tough examinations. Labs are easy, but the exams explore difficult topics that aren't discussed in lecture or the homework. The average for the first exam was a 56% and she seems quite unapologetic about it, as if her exams are perfectly balanced. Prepare to spend most of your time studying, lectures don't help much.
The lectures are all recorded online so you will do fine if you miss a few. Labs are very helpful for the course however the exams are very tough since a different professor makes them. What appears on the exam is much harder than what she teaches in class (since they are not made by her). But, online homework and labs can help boost your grade.
Dr. Wasalathanthri was the reason I passed chem1127 (the second time around). I took her class Spring 2024 after having failed chem with a different professor who I didn't love fall 2021, and the difference was astounding. She's so clear and her lectures were so helpful. If you did her practice probs, tests would be manageable. 10/10
love. so organized. very clear what was expected of me
Great professor but teaches a difficult class. She genuinely tries to make the content easy to understand and never tries to trick you. Go to class, take notes, do the homework, review the in-class worksheets and you can do well. The worksheets she provides are pretty much the open response questions on exams (just switches the numbers).
This professor is not very good at helping us understand the material. Shes trying her best but honestly just read the textbook because its so much more helpful than her lecture. Everyone is just lost during lecture. Exams are very difficult and even though the average is 50s she refuses to curve. Just read the textbook and you'll get an A.
read the textbook!! her lectures are not helpful and exams are very difficult but textbook is sooo helpful.
Just so unnecessarily confusing and hard for no reason. Homework and lab saves the grade.
Best Chem professor in UConn…! Make sure to attend lectures and do her worksheets. you will be just fine.
The course content is heavy. She assumes you have basic Math/Calc background. Great lectures
This is one of the best classes i have taken after i transferred to UConn.
Made a usually difficult class much more manageable. Exams have very clear questions. The final is the ACS exam which is not given by the professor, which means it is extremely difficult.
If you plan to take 1128 or 1127 in Storrs, take it with Dr Wasalathanthri, she's the best option. Content heavy, but pretty decent class.
Professor W was clear before her lectures that the handouts she gave would be very useful for tests, AND THEY ARE. Checking over them significantly boosted my grade compared to the one time I didn't use them. During lectures, she goes over practice problems that are quite useful, and her grading system is focused on the benefit of the student.
I loveee her. She makes chem so easy to understand, and makes sure we are ALL getting it even though she has huge 150+ person lectures. Lots of practice problems in class, best chem teacher I've had yet!
Would 100000% recommend taking her. She takes a difficult course and makes it digestable. Attendance isn't graded, but definitely go. The slideshows alone are ok, but I can't stress enough how amazing her lectures are. She goes over problems and hands out optional worksheets for better understanding. Lab is a breeze and you get 3 attempts per quiz
She makes the concepts very easy to understand. She also hosts her office hours by appointment, so you can talk to her about anything course related alone. She is very easy to understand, and she really knows what she is talking about. 10/10 recommend taking a class with her.
Makes the subject easier to understand if you go to lectures. You can tell she cares and wants you to learn, but exams still hard so it's very study heavy. overall great prof though
Dr. W is a great chemistry teacher who prepares you well for tests. Only thing that could be improved is the timing of the homework. Our homework topics were always a week ahead and we would have to do 20-25 questions on topics we had not learned.
Legendary Chem professor among a really bad group of professors
I would recommend taking Chem 1127 with her! She gives extra credit in the end. Just beware her exams on based on the in-class worksheets instead of the slides which is annoying.
She is best suited to take Chem 1127, definitely not 1128. For 1128, she was awful! She would yell at our class for doing so poorly on the exams when she made it difficult. The average for each exam was always 53%. She didn't give extra credit and was a lot more critical of all students. Expect all exams to be difficult.
Great Professor. Took both CHEM 1127 and CHEM 1128 with her. She genuinely does an amazing job. She is clear and if you pay attention and do practice problems you will succeed.
This professor is really knowledgeable in the subject, and she is very interesting to talk to. She has one on one office hours appointments, so you have her complete attention. She is a good lecturer and her notes are extraordinary.
Dr Wasalathantri is a fantastic professor. I took general chem 2 with her my first semester and she is very knowledgeable. The lectures are VERY informative, although not mandatory if you are good at self learning. The homework, especially the exam reviews, are some of the best practice I've ever had. Overall a great, kind professor.
Literally one of the worst professors I've ever had. She makes the content much harder than it has to be and does not care at all that the class average for all the exams are in the 50s. She tries her best but can't teach considering I took AP Chem in HS and did perfectly fine but now I have never been so confused in my entire life.
go to lecture for an A! hands out practice problems in class that you can't get anywhere else, and even though she uploads the slides, they're not super useful on their own because she adds a ton of notes during lecture that don't get posted on Husky. her lectures r AMAZING! overall the class really isnt that bad, just show up and do the HW
She is super sweet, but her teaching style is awful. I read her reviews and tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she will throw on questions on the exam that you have never gone over and expect you to answer them. The exams average 50% with no curves. I went to tutoring and did everything I could do. Not enough time on exams either.
Her exams were entirely confusing, even after going to tutoring multiple times a week. Averages for exams were in the 50s, and she will not curve them. When she says she will curve the final grade, she means the final exam, and even then, she only gave 6 points for a 60% on the final.
The class itself is tough. Dr W made a lot of things clear but the course is very dense and confusing. Make sure you have hours upon hours to give to learning it. She doesn't teach everything needed for the final but gives a generous curve. Be sure to know how to teach yourself.
Dr. W is a great professor. She made 1128 course interesting. I really learned alot at the class. You must attend her lectures, otherwise you'll miss some of the example questions.
Literally one of the best professors I've ever had. As others said, Go to her lectures if you want to do well. Her lectures are amazing, but content heavy
I got an A…! Highly recommend Prof Niluka for 1128.
