She is funny but just rambles in class and doesn't really relate the things shes talking about to the book. There are some in class assignments & some online assignments and she grades terribly, I felt that she deducted points because she didn't agree with my opinion. Tests are online and you can use your book but they aren't simple. not recommende
She's fun and nice. Her lectures are interesting but none of it is on the test. There are some inclass videos and assignments. Most importantly if you don't want to go to class don't bother the best thing you can do is study the book and then have it handy when taking the ONLINE test. The class is not hard in any stretch of the imagination.
This Teacher is not a teacher at all......she seems to have some sort of agenda. She doesn't do anything but preach about her political views and just rambles on and on.I could go on to all the offensive language and things that she has said but i think my comments have to be pg-13.
Not a very good teacher at all, I was taking her for online and she couldnt keep on top of all the assignments and she didnt have our first test ready until 4-5 days after. On her tests she asks questions that are out of an outdated book that she uses, so its really hard to follow. I would not recommend her, if you can take someone else!
I just finished her online class. She was constantly VERY behind with grades and was useless when it came to answering questions bc it took her forever to reply to emails. It was as if there was no teacher. And test questions do not correspond with the current book... If possible, choose a different teacher.
She's really easy and funny. Take her class! You won't regret it.
Ok class, but test are somewhat hard. Must read the book! Easy B but try a little harder for an A
Great Teacher, has a sense of humor, cares about work, if you get anything less then an A that's your fault not hers.
Is very hard to reach via email. And for an online teacher that is critical. Email responses are short and often unhelpful.
online class= terrible
Easy A!!!!!!!!!!
I disliked her class, but it was an incredibly easy A. Going to class is pointless because her lectures are usually different from what she tests on. All tests are online and are by the book's publisher. As long as you have the book while taking tests, you'll be fine. There are some small group assignments, but no big presentations or anything.
I took the online class with her. Easy A if your a self learner. You read from the book then have group discussion no reply or help from the teacher.
Completely unhelpful if you email her. Syllabus and assignment dropbox don't match up.
this teacher sucks! don't ever take her. she shouldn't be teaching. she never respond to email. her class is totally nonsense. she is so behind. she never get things done on time especially exams. Her lectures are good but her exams are base on textbook.
Horrible! I do not think she takes her job seriously. Not sure what shes doing with her time but its not teaching or responding to emails. So behind in grading, do not take her online class, or any class im sure for that matter.
Only take Professor Chapman's class if YOU are a great self-learner. I found the text book really interesting which enabled me to receive a B. Again, it's just YOU and the BOOK. She did have an accident in the beginning of the semester which put her behind on grading so she may usually be fast at it.
Let's her family life effect class. Horrible at giving lecture. Not slids. Just talks, some words on the board. Easy assignments 40%. HARD test, dose not cover material 60%. Forgot to post test online twice & did nit respond to emails. Cusses a lot
Great if you don't like teacher/student contact. I.e. you email...no reply. Have a question...no response. Basically read the text book, do the discussions and the test. Not too sure what she actually does..but doesn't seem like it's teaching! FYI..no lectures or additional help. All textbook. Not good if you're not a keen reader!
Worst "teacher" I've ever had, she doesn't teach! I am debating as to whether she's a real person or not because Nina almost never contacts us... except with automated sounding emails about errors on the class website. It took nearly 2 weeks to get my research paper topic approved! There is zero interaction with this teacher.
She seemed very unorganized. We had many problems with blackboard. This was an online class, which I feel if you have an online class, and the only way to communicate to your students is via email, you need to respond in a timely manner. She did not response to most emails. The final was 100 questions cumulative and we were given 60 mins.
She has to be one of the worst online professors. She is very lacking communication with her students. Her grading is off. Horrible teacher! DO NOT TAKE HER
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! GAVE ME AN UNDESERVED GRADE! TRIED TO REACH OUT TO HER, BUT NEVER REPLIED! DO NOT TAKE HER, I REPEAT: HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!
Does not take the time to reply to email. Class schedule/syllabus constantly changes. Assignments are out of order.
I took her online course for the fall 2012 semester.... Let's just say i wish that i would have had another instructor. She is always on vactaions, she is disorganized with due dates, and takes FOREVER to get back to you with any questions. I recommend you try and avoid her (online class) i'm not to sure about her in class lectures though.
Terrible, horrible, teacher. She takes forever to respond to emails and her grading doesn't make sense. She will screw you over with your grade in the end.
Took her class in person, but the tests and assignments you get grades for were pretty much all online. Really nothing she taught in the classes had anything to do with the assignments, instead it just seemed like she needed to fill 3 hours every week. Pretty easy though.
This has to be the worse online professor, ever! The class is pretty easy. But, this teacher is horrible. She doesn't reply to emails and the main research paper took her over a month to grade. I didn't even know the grade going into the final. Which is lame! Avoid this class
Most useless teacher ever for an online course! Rarely replies to emails (2/6). 4 Tests, 17 HW (due at the end). For Fall 2012, I have grades for all classes but this one! Lectures are useless. $140 book is vital. McGraw Hill program has errors. Got 1 question right but marked wrong. Nina said she'll contact McGraw but my points never changed!
Very nice and very interesting class..Ms. Chapman is very passionate about what she teaches..homework is ALL online and its not the easiest..read the book and you should be perfectly fine
She was not helpful, was not on time with any of her grading, did not help much.. worst of all.. almost nothing that was on the tests/exams came from the EXPENSIVE book that we bought. I mean how do you expect us to read EVERYTHING and pass without a study guide either.. it's a joke...If you can serious study on your own. go for it.if not then dont
Tests and quizzes were open book.. with semi-difficult questions. One research paper assignment (30% of your grade), but she gives you plenty of time to get it done. ATTENDANCE is VERY important. In class activities and group discussions. Good class videos. Lectures without power point. BOOK IS VERY IMPORTANT for open book exams!
She has her views and she voices them, but her class is pretty straight forward. Do all your work, go to class, and study. If you do it all, you'll pass her class. She lectures without power point and shows lots of videos. If you're not good at making it to class, take an online class. If you don't go to class, you will lose points.
easy A. every week there is a 500 summary on that week's reading. two major papers: interview an immigrant and a trip to the museum of tolerance in LA, these make up most of your grade. not very time consuming and you learn alot. very helpful professor. Prior to taking this class i despised online classes but she changed all that
I'm a little confused as to all the negative comments-this was literally the EASIEST class Ive ever taken & interesting as well. If you show up, I really don't see how you can get anything less than an A. Ms Chapman is passionate about her subject & knows it inside out. She responded to all emails promptly & kept class lively
took this class online, i thought this class was easy as long as you turn in your assignments every week and stay on top of things and the paper she assigned was a good way to learn more about a specific social problem.
took both online and at GWC. One of the worse professors I've had, she is not at all professional, conceded, boastful, curses in class, not appropriately dressed, practically everything is online through a program you have to purchase and is a pain to use, talks about her problems and rants- take another professor if you can!
Although the tests are open-book but they're still very very extremely hard and nothing is replated to her lecture... So I wonder why did I come to class for ?
WORST TEACHER EVER!! How does she expect to have an online class and an on campus class that has to do everything online and never respond to any emails?! 3 midterm exams and a final actually means 2 midterms then 2 tests the week of finals. She is the most unprofessional and frustrating teacher I've EVER had. I don't understand how she has a job.
If you're taking the online course, all you have to do is read the book (actually read it!), do the assignments, write the paper, + remember to take the exams (open-book). If you do all of this, you should be able to get an A. The assignments + exams are word-for-word from the text. Highlighting the book will help you find the answers easier.
Horrible! Site homework was submitted on went down several times, but if the course work was not completed (due to the site being down) she still counted it as late. She never responded to emails regarding the class.
Nina Chapman for Soc 100 was terrible! I'm the type of student who never has problems with teachers EVER...until I had to take this class with her because it was the ONLY soc teacher with room for more students(guess why). You will not get an A if you take her. Her online tests always have mistakes. I have many more complaints, but no space to type
Worst teacher ever! She sits in class and all she does is talk about her life and family. Her notes are like 2 slides and she rarely ever uses the book. Which is ridiculous because the tests are from a website so since she didn't cover anything the tests were HARD! Never answers emails. Always rude when you ask questions. Don't take this class
Easiest class I have ever taken. Isn't very good with being up to date with grading. Weekly assignments. I didn't have one exam/test, and the final was something like a response to the class & what our favorite chapters were. I missed two assignments and still got an A.
I took Nina Chapman for Sociology 100 and it was a terrible mistake. I ignored all of the people on this site and now I regret it. Her lectures are very unclear and she just rants about her liberal views and cops. she is very unprofessional and arrogant and personally for me her class is just a drag. I passed the class with a B but I did not learn.
You do not need to attend class, assignments and tests are done online and she just talks all day. I suggest you use an E-book and "Ctrl + F" when you take the tests. Good luck.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you can try to take soc at OCC! thats what I would have done. She is SO unorganized, super late on responding to emails. In my class right now we have 46 posts in a discussion board about problems with no response from her. WHAT DOES SHE DO ALL DAY???
Talks about how laid back she is & how much she smokes, whatever right? But she makes you think she's laid back &understanding, not! I told her I was missing class to family issues & said its fine and gave me a C after I did all the work and did it well. Plus, I only missed 2 weeks. All u do in class is talk to other students, she doesn't lecture.
This class was honestly a Big waste of time. You mainly just talk the whole time during lectures, but she will often give in-class assignments to check for attendance. You basically use the textbook for everything, and the tests are very difficult because of it. There is also one term paper that is pretty tough. I would not recommend her class.
Can be tough but not rude. Will tell you what you did wrong and responds in a timely manner. Don't try and take the easy route seeing that the class is already pretty easy. Make sure your papers are thorough and easy to readunderstand. ALWAYS cite any and all work. She's a stickler about that and will take points away. I'd take her again.
I LOVE NINA! My favorite prof. thus far at GWC! Very opinionated and I can see where some would take offense at some of her opinions who do not share the same views. She often goes a little off topic but everything correlates to the lecture. Besides that, she knows her material, makes sociology interesting and is an amazing woman! Would recommend!
THE FLAKIEST PROFESSOR EVER. I had tech difficulties and couldn't take an exam and she refused to respond to me and when she finally did, she said I was the only one who didn't take the Exam. I called GW help desk and they verified that I wasn't crazy and the site really was down. Emailed her 4x and took her 3 days to respond SHE IS AWFULLLLLLLLLL
do. not. take. her. course.
i took the online class. 1) don't email her2) the book + hw costs $75 3) you can't google the end of chapter questions but i did copy and paste the book into a doc and then cntrl f the answers 4) you can google the midterm+final questions 5) i got 100% on essay but it was complete bs. just make sure you have a good intro and conc+works cited
Read the syllabus carefully.... it will save you a lot of time! I learned a lot in this class and had no issues at all. I emailed her with a question and she answered it quickly. I got a high grade but I worked hard for it. Do all the work and turn it in on time and you will be fine.
The weekly writing assignments were annoying, but not difficult. You just need to read the chapter and paraphrase it, maybe sprinkle in some of your own thoughts if you have them. I didn't do any citations for most of them and still got full points. If you're not a strong writer you may struggle with the analysis paper, but she grades leniently.
BLAH. Online course, does not respond well. Very short, lot's of reads. I asked her two questions and did not get clear responses; how will I get the help I needed from an online class like this? I guess I'll just teach myself, thank you.
Her classes are always fairly easy, in that you know exactly what you need to do in order to get a good grade. She clearly outlines what is expected of you. Make sure you do the readings, because the weekly written assignments are graded by how well you can incorporate the material. (they're pretty short). Class is writing heavy though, so read.
Worst online class i've ever taken I recommend you don't take the class.
I took her intro to sociology and it was a tough class. She's a great person and really funny! You will have a huge paper to write but I thought it was interesting! Her lectures are quite boring and you MUST do the online homework to pass the class!
She is not hard at all, i got a 95% in her class. No exams, just a weekly discussion response write-up, one paper and a group project. Shes really nice but can just ramble on and on, bless my coffee, and by the end of the semster about 8 kids were showing up. No one dropped just you can still get an A and never show up for class too.
I took Chapman's Intro to Sociology online class and passed with an easy A. Honestly, the homework assignments are super easy to complete, just don't leave them all till the last minute. There's one paper during the 4 week course, three exams, and one final aside from all of the homework assignments. Super chill course.
Loved this class.
No tests, but quite a bit of writing. Super interesting!
She is very funny and seems to really care about her students. She will give you a break if you have problems
I loved this class! So interesting and I learned a lot. Writing heavy, but no tests
I was glad to learn more about social problems in our society and she is a good teacher. Online class is organized and she gets back to you right away.
I liked 100 so I took 133. Both of these classes were good and I learned a lot. Nina really cares about her students and she is funny!
I had some personal problems. She was really cool and helped me succeed in the class.
Both of these classes were interesting. Test in Sociology 100, only writing in Sociology 133. I really learned alot!
Taking both her classes online, I was afraid I wouldn't learn anything but I was so wrong about that. She does weekly writing assignments, so the positive about that is that it will help your writing skills. Theres a paper you have to do as well but its not bad at all. No exams, so thats a great plus. She gives great feedback as well.
She was very accessible but the syllabus was not clear at all. I would follow the directors given in the syllabus and still not get full points. Loves definitions so use them in everything
Her class was alright. Most assignments are done through the e-book - so you do need to buy that. She actually reads the essays and discussion posts and is not an easy grader. Syllabus could have been more clear. I got a B.
I took the online class at CC. Your grade is based on 25% assignments, 30% written assignments, and 45% exams. The assignments were so tedious to do because there would be 5 questions in one question. There were 20 assignments that had 10 questions. I didn't like how the professor include a due date but would lock assignments out of the blue..
i had prof chapman over the summer for her online soc. class. tbh it was an easy class to take over the summer. weekly readings, quizzes, 3 discussion posts, 1 essay. overall easy A if you read through the chapters. this course was interesting too!
Easy A, took the online class over fall. Not like other online professors Ive taken, only got I think 2 emails from her all semester. Tests are easy if you read the chapters. 1 paper, 3 exams, 1 cumulative final, 3 discussion questions and after every chapter theres practice questions to do which do take a little time but not bad at all.
She claims she hated powerpoint yet that is all she used. the reading quizzes we had from the book had nothing to do with what the talked about during her lecture. She has a very interesting character and will require a lot of patience. Worst class I have ever taken.
This class was an easy A class. Took the online course & teacher does not give any updates to the class about the progress through the course & only gave class notifications about once/twice. Most of the questions & answers were on Quizlet, so it is not actual material the Professor makes for students. You just read online & do quizzes to pass.
Easiest online class I have ever taken. It consists of 1 written response a week & 1 paper. The responses are easy A's as long as you answer them clearly. Textbook not needed at all. Just be aware she does NOT post announcements. Didn't even notify class of the paper until a week before. The canvas calender is up to date but she doesn't remind you
best professor!
Truly disappointed and regret taking this class. Sociology actually interests me but Nina ruined it for me. Amidst this whole pandemic most of my professors have been caring and accommodating except Nina. She randomly changes the time assignments are due and changes project instructions 2 days before the due date during finals week. Get it together
Professor Chapman is an amazing teacher. I took her for two classes this semester. Both were essay heavy consisting of one short paper a week and a course term paper. As long as you answer the questions, you should score high. 3-4 discussions over the course of the term. She is also caring and willing to work with students. Just Communicate!!!
Professor Chapman's Sociology class was fairly easy. I think a lot of her assignments changed now, because in older comments, she seemed to give lots of work, but for me she actually had very little work for us. WebAssign, discussion, paper. Midterm and Final. She seemed kindof cold in her email responses, but that's just my opinion.
During this Pandemic all of my professors have been clear in all assignments and all have great communication except for this professor. She gave the wrong book purchase to the class. I would have to email her 2-3 times to get a response. I was under stress throughout this class just for the fact that i don't even take online classes.
As a Sociology major I took two of her online classes prior to covid. They are very easy classes, you have to do a bit of reading and a bit of writing but she is an easy grader. I feel like a lot of the learning was done through my own readings rather than teaching. you have to not try at all in order to fail this class.
took her online class and she never communicated with her students through canvas. her tests and quizzes are all on quizlet too. if you truly want to learn about sociology, dont take her class. if you want an easy A and more units, take her class.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Literally the worst professor I have ever had. She never emails back, never helps, and you will not learn anything. You mine as well be taught by yourself. She does not send out memos to you about any assignments, tests, or projects. When she does respond to your emails she is not very nice. Assignment criteria is very vague!
Senior professor with a lot of emphasis on discussion. Admittedly not a perfect student but really learned a lot more from other students over the lectures in the online class. I would not take a session from her again because of the lack of knowledge I carried with me outside of the classroom.
Easy class to take. Everything was due at the end of the semester which was cool. I definitely recommend if you're looking for an easy A!
Doesn't reply to emails, no help, no announcements, no teaching. A class full of busy work where you learn nothing. Avoid if you can.
Mrs Chapman was awesome! No idea why shes getting 2.6 rating, I was an older person attending GWC & a Prev Employee of GWC, Mrs Chapman is inspirational, openly admits her successes & failures in life & passion for all beliefs & backgrounds, cares for your success & understanding of content. I adore this woman truly is a great person & instructor
