He do a lot of read, and he use three or four textbooks in his class. Four tests (100 points each)and hightest three will count. One final exam(200 points). His web site : www.ninosmalek.com
excellent teacher. his class was very interesting and ful of fun. i highly recommend him.
Tests are hard. Summer school doesnt have lots time, so there are too much stuff he can cover. Some questions on tests he never talked about. HAVE TO READ EVERYTHING. Sometimes readings are just too much.
very organized: lecture notes and internet readings downloadable from his website. MUST read the textbook! Also interesting videos. Willing to help the students! Focuses on the big picture rather than minor calculations. Funny and engaging.
pretty cool class. he is very helpful and makes econ an interesting subject. you must read the book in order to get a good grade. his notes are useful and you will loe Stossel videos :))
Pretty cool dude & easy A-giver. His lectures were fun & helpful, discussed realistic issues. Also he gave interesting videos (Freeman, Stossel and other).
Nice guy and a great teacher. He knows his stuff and he tries to make the class interesting. Take him if you can.
Ninos Malek is definitely one of the best professors at De Anza! Economics is a tough subject, but he makes it interesting and worth while. Just remember to stick it ALL the way through till the very end! OH.. and he might come off as a tough/insensitive guy but hes not! He's probaly the "chillest" professor there is.
The class is very hard. Only take it if you're serious about the subject. Ninos Malek is a really good teacher, but the tests can be tricky. Getting an A in the class is unlikely to happen, so take this class at your own risk.
the hottest prof i have ever had. he's such a cool guy with a extremely interesting speech. he makes me want to learn. he may seems strict but he tried his best to gave free points. i really want to take him if i can.
He's a great professor. Very clear on what he expects from students. His lectures are simply awesome because he does try his best to incorporate different ways of teaching to accommodate different learning styles. Not every professor will do that. Tests are not hard but make you think instead of reiterate the info back to him. He's very nice & HOT!
Although there are lots of readings in this class, just read them before tests and attend lectures, then you should be fine. Opportunities for extra credit. Takes best 2 out of 3 midterms.
I enjoy studying the subjects taught by Ninos Malek. He makes the topics real interesting and much practical, and helps you relate the day to day things with the core economics concepts. It may be difficult, but Ninos makes it sound easy. A or A+ can be tougher to get, but feasible, if you are doing multiple revisions of textbooks he advised.
It was my second time taking this class. I've had two Indian teachers previously, and for those of you who know what I'm talking about, YEAH..IT WASN'T EASY! Malek is THE BEST. He makes the topic so interesting even though econ can be hard to understand. I looked forward to attending class every single day.Study for his exams and you should do fine
He is the best Econ teacher I've ever had. The class was very helpful and he clearly explained the Econ topics. His exam is kindd hard, but you will be doing fine if you read his notes and textbook. Bsically it's an easy A if you following his instruction and be prepared for the test. By the way, he is cute.
Texts weren't too necessary. Got by w/o buying 2 of the 3 req'd books and buying the previous ed. of the main text to save money. Easy tests. I didn't agree with his obvious libertarian views and his overuse of sensationalized Stossel vids. Overall, Malek makes class bearable with his cynical, bro-ish humor. Get him to avoid boring econ professors!
There is no doubt that he is a nice teacher, but exmas are hard.It seems that it is pretty hard to get an "A" in his class.
I have taken in Summer of 2010, nice professor, knowledgeble, lot of participance in class, knows subject, I highly recommend him.
Great teacher! Makes you really understand the subjects in class, but when it comes to the tests, they're hard! You MUST read and try your best to UNDERSTAND the subject. Malek will help you to do that though! Ask questions and he will answer! But it isn't an easy A. Attend class, he gives lectures not available anywhere online or through email.
Great professor. Very effective at driving home key points and making them stick. Took the 6 week summer course. Had 4 midterms (drop one) and 1 final. Not a fan of some of the m/c exam questions, which apparently comes from the book. TIP: To do well, come to class and keep up with the reading. Some test q's from reading not covered in lecture.
It's an easy class to get A+. My friend Tim San ,Ken and i got A +.especially Tim san he got 84% in the 1st midterm ,62% in the 2nd , 74 in the 3rd.Later the god bless him that he got 100% in the last mid-term.Then ,the miracle is coming ,in the final ,he got 500 points ,unbelievable, how can he do that , take this class ,he can do that ,so do u
no homework . super easy A
Incentives matter! And he gets that message across very concisely. If you are willing to challenge your own beliefs, his class will be an eye opener of realistic economics not voo doo economics
Easy if you do the readings and participate and take notes. Besides that it doesn't take that much to well in this class. He helps out a lot and makes economics clear
teaches econ in teh most interesting way, make sure not to miss
teaches at san jose state, knows what he's talking about, very clear, very cool
Why can't all the econ professors here teach like him?
One of the very few Econ teachers in South bay that teaches real Economics, things that will challenge your every beliefs (mis-beliefs many times). 4 exams, drop the lowest and 1 final, no extra credit so do your study carefully and u'll be fine. Will recommend him for anyone wanna study Econ in SJSU or De Anza.
I highly recommend this class. It's like an eye opener for those who really are narrow minded. It makes the subject clear like a crystal. The class was fun, always exited and lot of details.I really like him. He is the best Econ teacher ever:))
One of the best econ teachers at De Anza. His lectures are inetersting and you will never fall asleep. To get a good great you have to come to class because many exmas questions come from the lecture. His class is easy A if you come everytime to class and read at least ones all chapters
taking Ninos' Eco class, you will get whole bunch of knowledge. I am waiting for his class to attend since he dose not teach this fall. I wish he would teach in winter.
Prof. Malek is, fair, reasonable, logical, rational, smart, and overall a good person. The class tends to sway more towards libertarian economics, but it's good to get a different viewpoint on issues in the public and private sector. I've already started using terminology from his class in real life. Take him.
Ninos was cool but did not like his style of teaching. He talks way too fast for me to understand. Lots of reading and tough grader. I'm taking a course at SJSU and is loving my new professor. Good luck in his class. He's really into himself.I'm just saying. LOL
This class is fun and you will learn a lot. Tests are not hard but could be very comprehensive.Highly recommend to attend every class even the attendance doesn't count.
Before I took this course, I have only learned about social sciences that did not apply to the economic world. This course really opened my eyes to how our economy works. Ninos is an outstanding teacher who applies economics to everyday life. He treats economics as a social science rather than mathematics. Take him! You will never be bored!
I'm conflicted on how to feel about this class. He teaches economics in a practical manner where you'll remember concepts way beyond the classroom. For the exams though, i felt some of the material wasn't covered enough in depth during lecture, and they are not his own questions, so if you stumble on a couple you'll get a set wrong. Tradeoffs!
the best teacher i have ever had. attendance isnt mandatory but he says "if you want an A, come to class." you need to study on your own and pay attention in order to succeed in this class. however, malek makes it super fun and teaches in a way that really sticks. wish i could have him for all my classes.
Kind of a intimidating dude. You gotta go to class to pass or you'll fall behind. Luckily, the only time he ever called on me, I knew the answer.. *Thank you based god*
A wonderful econ teacher with such a great sense of humor. He loves economy, loves education and loves his students; always try to help everyone patiently. Especially he loves the word of GOD and put them on his web site to encourage us!<Matthew 10:32> is for him! I hope our LORD will bless him abundantly!
He is a great professor, he makes a lot of jokes in class to try and keep his students entertained in a very long, late night lecture. Make sure to read the books because he will put material on the tests from them. Tests are multiple choice and very fair.
This guy is a comedian. Not only does he manage to teach the material, he does it in a way where students can have a laugh. I would recommend Ninos Malek to anyone.
TAKE ECON WITH THIS GUY! He's hilarious & explains complex concepts in an understandable way. He doesn't do attendance or homework. It's all about the tests & final. His lectures are interactive & helped me understand economics more than the textbook. HIGHLY recommend. Made me consider majoring in economics.
Best Econ professor on earth! Take him and you'll learn!
Using various sources of material to support his lectures. Also love his sense of humor. Take him.
Malek is a great teacher. He tries to make learning easier and entertaining. His tests are take home so it's easy to pass this class. You will learn a lot, though.
Final is pretty hard, so if you wanna get an A, you should maximize the score of previous tests. (95 or above).
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ECON 78! It is a 3 unit course,n it is a crash course for Econ 1/2! Assigns a TON of reading, went through material super fast & gives tough exams with questions with material not learned in class or in the books!. He was a sub in for Professor Mack and did a horrible job at it. I guess ALL he knows how to teach are Econ 1/2...
He is the worst teacher in my academic experience so far: being late for every single class, fill the lecture with video clips, and do not deal with the subject in depth. He should consider being a salesman since he is good at selling something more than what is actually worth. He is basically neither capable of teaching nor interested in teaching,
I like this class. He made Econ so interesting. but I don't like his system of giving take-home tests. It gives the incentive to cheat & the final is in class, you're not allowed to bring cheat sheets, that means you have to memorise the definitions and concepts. (probably at the last minute). Being in an econ major, this doesn't help me.
Clear expectations for succeeding in class. Attend meeting, READ textbooks (mainly the big one), and ask questions. Although the class was a bit unorganized, he gave me a good basic overview of economics. Recommend for GE.
Although Professor Malek's class discussions are very thought provoking, there is some incongruence between what is talked about in class and what is on the exams. More time should be spent talking about the test concepts rather than pro-Libertarian views. The timing of the midterms were spotty and didn't provide enough time to review for the final
Malek is straightforward and clear on his lectures. He has alot of reading for his class. Three books for reference and needed to understand the concepts. Apart from being super Pro-Austrian, libertarian; he was reasonable and friendly. He had take home tests, so there should be no reason to fail those. The final is where the points count.
He is easy if you go to class wanting to learn. He makes ecomonics something you can apply to in your daily life. My friend and I took his class and we now talk about economics outside of class quite a lot. Do everything he asks, and you should get an A no problem.
Ninos Malek's class is interesting; his sarcasm, wit, & trick questions keep you thinking. His libertarian approach to economics is unconventional, and offers a fresh, much-needed perspective. Focus on the final exam, 2/3s of the grade. Exams require a lot of reading from the textbooks, lectures, & videos. His grading is fair and straightforward.
Summer class-De Anza. This is the truth: He is an opinionated teacher with a very economical mentality in everything. Gives 4 take home tests, drops lowest, and each test is 100 points. His final is in class and worth 600 points. Throws you off b/c take home tests' questions can be found online and the final is super unexpected and unbelievable.
He's so unorganised. He canceled 2 classes without early notice. His tests are all Scantron. However, his lectures are interesting. Attendance is not mandatory.
I don't know what I can say. What he was teaching is useful but what he tested was never show up in class. Confident and conceited, yes I am talking Ninos. He said he is the best teacher in De Anza, just in De anza. However, U ill find more better and better teacher who ill let u know how interesting Econ class could be, but not nino, nightmare
Ninos is a good teacher and teaches good material, when he showed up on time... which was rarely. Probably missed a total of three weeks of class time due to his spotty attendance. Four exams, all take home, but then a 600 point final that is in class. Doesn't prepare you at all for the final. Online Norton Smartwork homework is a waste of time.
People forget that college is supposed to be more difficult than high school. Being a good teacher and being easy are NOT always synonymous. Ninos is one of the smartest professors I've had the experience to meet, he is extraordinarily concise with what he wants and how the class is run.
Don't be scared of his final like other people are saying. His lectures are really interesting and hilarious. He may seem like a mean guy at first but he's cool listening to student's opinions and arguments. It is not hard. Just study the old take home tests and it should be an easy A.
Tests are take home, easy A's. The final is 600 points, but is significantly easier than the take home tests. Understand the material on the take home tests and you never need to go to class.
He is on time for class. His class is organized and interesting. He is friendly and answers your questions when you ask him. Just keep up the readings as he told you and you will be ok for this class!
BE AWARE His lecture is interesting but his tests are tough. Even though if you thought you did well on those midterms watch out for his final. The final weighs heavily on your grade so be prepare for it if you are thinking about taking his class. His final wont cover all the questions from the midterm but the new stuff. The questions are difficult
Professor Malek teaches Economics in a way that is fun and useful in our everyday lives. He does everything to help students be successful in his class, do the readings and you'll be fine. This class is one that you must attend every meeting in order not to miss material provided, it will be on tests and final. I recommend taking him.
He has excellent lectures. Any questions you may have, he has a clear answer. Everything reading material - Get It. Attendance helps you out because every class covers your tests. You must be consistent in your own work ethic, and if you are, you are good. Take him, and if you can take him for both Econ 1 & 2 - even better. You'll learn a lot :)
He's not an easy A teacher. A LOT of reading! There are four midterm worth 10% each. He drops 1 of the lowest midterm. 10% for homework, and it was hard! The final worth 60% and were very DIFFICULT. He often late to class. The lecture and the test was different. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
HE SHOWS UP LATE ALL THE TIME. he hardly covers all of the materials for the tests and although all of his tests are take home tests, his final is worth 600 pts which will ruin your grades. not to mention his hw is such a burden.
comforts you with the take home midterms but brings you back down when you take back your final exam. 100 MCQ questions that's worth 300 points. THINK TWICE before taking this class if you don't have time to read and practice.
Great professor! I didn't realize how good until I took Singh for ECON2 (AWFUL). He will give 5 good examples in the time she gives 1. He's really funny (and funny looking). 4 take home tests (drops 1), easy Hw (but assigns all at once before exams, kinda annoying), final is like exams except in class. straight up grading system. Blinding bald head
Hes a good teacher. Real world examples and hes pretty funny. He is always late 5-10mins, lectures for 30 mins, a 5 min break that turns into 15, then ends 15 mins early. No tricks or gimmicks, you will always know your grade and exactly what you need to get an A, if you do it, great, if not, then deal with your grade because its what you earned.
Malek is fun and his lectures are interesting. He even gives you typed up notes, and is super clear with his information. You actually come up with knowledge and end up having fun even if the class was easy
One of the best teachers I have ever had. As an econ major its because of teachers like him that I love the subject. I took him for both econ 1 and 2 and I'm greatly going to miss him. There are pop quizzes, take home tests, and lots of reading but its all worth it. TAKE HIM!! Awesome guy and will give you a different perspective on things.
I'm so happy I took Ninos instead of another econ teachers. His classes are the best, it's very interesting and he teaches material that you can actually apply. It was my first ever econs class, and I'm planning to take his macro later on, that's how interesting he is. Oh yeah and he loves John Stossell...,like alot.
He teaches in a fun way but the class is not easy. He tells what he expects you to know, and he has notes to download from his webpage for help. He is always ready to explain again. Be sure to have clear concepts. Attend lectures. The final exam is easier compared to quizzes and tests.
He's a pretty good teacher. His lectures are interesting and entertaining. You'll have to work for your grade. He has three textbooks, but I would only recommend only buying the main one. His final is 600 points so beware before taking his class. I would only recommend buying the main textbook. He reminds me of Lex Luthor.
Ninos is a very entertaining professor to listen to. He's clear with lecture material. All tests and quizzes are multiple choice on scantrons.
Libertarian, which is rare and refreshing in CA. Lots of assigned reading. Exams were take home, except for the final. Pop quizzes given in class. Lots of reading, but if you keep up it's an easy A
I took his Econ1 and Econ2 classes consecutively and had a blast. His tests are all take-home, but his final is worth 60% of your total grade so be sure to stay on top of the reading and lectures. His lectures are pretty engaging (and often ridicluously hilarious) so you won't have to worry about falling asleep in class.
What kind of a professor assigns five textbook chapters to read a week before the final? Oh yeah, this guy. My high school ap econ class was more difficult than this one, but at least we actually learned -_- The questions on his tests aren't hard, but the way he chooses to word them is what trips you up. I seriously would not recommend his class.
An amazing professor all around. Engaging and thought-provoking lectures, he respects his students, very easy to succeed and gain a deep understanding for economics. This guy is who inspired me to continue into Economics as a major, and he's the best professor I've had at De Anza. Take his class take his class take his class
If reading is your style of learning, take this class. DONT follow his reading schedule. READ AHEAD! He gave us a midterm and two quizzes on FIVE textbook chapters the week before finals. Fall behind and he wont show mercy
John Stossel was an excellent teacher on libertarian policies, and he took over on Malek's frequent trips to Canada. Malek's tests are all take home, so that's an easy 300 points if you can manage to decipher some rather ambiguous wording on questions. The final is largely based on the tests. He teaches more normative than positive.
I've had around 35 professors so far in my college career, and this guy easily snags #1. If you want to learn good economics, take this class. He doesn't just teach material - he makes sure you understand it, and he's VERY good at elaborating. His teaching style is superb. I'm considering taking "Economics 2" just for fun. Malek for President!
Truly inspirational. Beware, however, that your grade is based on 3 tests at 100 pts each, 4 quizzes at 25 pts each, and a final at a staggering 600 POINTS (60% of your grade). The tests and quizzes are quite simple but if you screw up the final you're going to drop a letter grade or two or more
This guys lectures were so clear that I didn't even have to read the book for the take home tests and ace them. The book is only good for the purposes of the final where you need to skim through around 18 chapters of reading. Tests and quizzes are not bad but the final is hard. Use exams at advantage sincethe final is really hard to score well on.
4 take-home exams and 5 in-class quizzes (drop the lowest) and final. Yes, final is worth 60% of your grade, but it's mostly review. Go over previous exams and notes, and you will be fine. His lecture is interesting and clear. Make sure to print out his lecture notes and take notes too. Would take his class again. Highly recommended!
A TON of reading, video-watching, and he gives four pop quizzes but drops the lowest. Regardless, he is so funny and enthusiastic you'll actually want to come to class. Take his other class ECON 2, you won't regret it. You'll miss him when his class is over! Thanks Ninos for making Econ actually fun. Still think about your lectures. -Former student
His lectures are clear and engaging, and cover 99% of the material. There is a lot of reading, but most of it is covered in his lectures. The final is 50% of your grade, but it is 90% review that covers only what was on testsquizzes. 10% is new material. Pay attention in class, take notes, and ask questions, and it'll be an easy A.
I had Ninos back to back for Micro and Macro. Ninos is great at what he does. He explains the concepts clearly and well. There's a lot of reading (there's 3 books! :o), but you really only need the main textbook. Tests are takehome, and quizzes are unannounced. Final's chill as long as you did well on tests without cheating. Read and you'll be okay
Ninos Malek is a stellar professor. He made Economics fun and made me ultimately love it and change my major to it. He is straightforward in class and uses real life applications. His grading criteria is very lenient if you do the work you're assigned on time. Overall, I would recommend and I wish I got the chance to take his other classes.
One of the best Professors I have ever had! Took 101 over summer, a 4 hour 15 minute class, it's not easy! But with Professor Malek, you don't even realize the time flying! Hilarious, but stern! Teaches you the economic way of thinking! Very helpful, inspirational! Exams are hard as he tests on what you've understood! Would take him again!
He's hilarious and his lectures are fun. I took him for econ 2 and econ 1. He was nicer when I first took him, less strict and gives away extra credits. sadly, he doesn't do that anymore. Econ 1 was harder, he gave pop quizzes unlike before, it was online homework which was really easy open book questions. Still Easy A if you read the material.
Great proffesor, attend his class and listen to his lecture, you will get an A definitely. There may be a lot of books to read, but most of it aren't necessary.
Ninos is a very entertaining teacher and attending class is worth it. You need to read the book and there is a lot of reading. He does a good job of teaching but the quizzes are fairly hard. Also he goes out of town a lot and expects you to keep up with the materials such as notes and readings. The final was really hard.
Amazing professor. Theres really no reason to fail his class unless you dont show up, dont read, or cheat. Hes a really good lecturer, for a 2 hrs class i am not one bit bored or distracted. His quiz arent hard if you read ahead/on track and listen to him. Doing both would help you and make everything super easy and make sense. Mostly main book!
Malek is a great professor, he uses examples that can relate to students while getting the lesson across. He has a lot of supplementary texts for you to understand Econ but I was able to get an A by showing up to every class and skimming most of the main text. He will help clarify any topics if you ask, be resourceful.
Took this super cool dude for macroecon and i got an A. He makes learning economics so fun and interesting. The tests, quizzes and final are so easy if you come to class everyday. He's so easy but you just have to do what he tells u
Attend his classes everyday because his lectures are very clear and detailed. It's the best way to learn and get a good grade in this class. There are 5 pop quizzes (drops lowest quiz), 4 take home test ((drops lowest test), and 1 final (50% of your grade). There's a lot of reading expected to do and essential if you want an A.
Ninos Malek is an interesting economics professor, providing us various video clips and real-world connections related to economics. The grading portion is based on Scantron quizzes, and tests, so be sure to review the notes, video clips, and the readings (they're complements, not substitutes). Overall, he's the most helpful econ professor.
4 take home tests, 5 quizzes (lowest dropped for both) and a final that is 50% of your grade. I got a D on the final and managed to get a B- in the class. He gives amazing lectures, but the final covers stuff he doesn't lecture about that are only in the book. Very rushed near the end of the quarter. Not taking him again, but he is good.
Dr. Malek is really smart, funny, and very knowledgeable. His lectures are very interesting. He gives a lot of different economics views. He teach the economics ways of thinkings that are so helpful that you can actually apply to your every life. Pop quizzes are harder than tests. They test you if you really understand the material or not.
Five quizzes(he drops one) Four take home tests(he drops one) Final exam(pretty hard) Attendance is compulsory if you want to get an A because videos and examples shown in class can appear in quizzes/tests.
Great lectures. Definitely interesting to listen. Take good notes, review them and you can pass the class. Reading is big. To get an A you MUST read. You can get by without it but if you want an A its a must! Overall awesome teacher. Took him for ECON1 & 2.
WARNING, NOT AN EASY A. with that being said, if you don't have a problem with showing up to every class, and reading 30-40pgs per chapter, then take his ECON1/2. All his exams are take home, but he has pop quizzes and his final is worth 50%, so if you cheat on the tests, you better study it later, otherwise you're screwed for the final.
There is a lot of reading in his class. Three books, videos he shows you and emailed to you that you have to do. Tons of reading be ready. 5 Pop quizzes and 4 tests and final. Pop quizzes are pretty easy and midterms are take home. But the final is half your grade and in class. Just show up to his great lecture and read and you'll do fine.
Ninos is very knowledgeable, especially when it comes to Economics. Usually I don't rate any professors but Ninos is a great professor. I wanted to take my precious time to help those of you who seek great knowledge in econ. He gives 4 pop quizzes( gives hints one will be given) and 5 tests. He drops each one for whichever you scored the least in.
Great econ professor! His lectures are clear, organized and he makes learning about it interesting. Grading is based of 5 pop quizzes and 4 take home tests, and he drops the lowest grade for each one. Final is worth half your grade so studying is a must! I just wish he gave other assignments or EC to help balance the amount of pts someone can earn.
Excellent and clear.
Amazing teacher!! His lectures are very clear and he uses real life examples to make sure you understand the material.
Took his class spring 2016. Lots of reading. 5 pop quizzes and 5 exams all MC. Great lectures. 4 take home exams and 1 final in class that is half your grade. Quizzes were very easy. They're based on the readings and part of the lecture. Exams are hard despite them being take home. Listen to lecture & do the reading and you'll get an A like me!
I just took Professor Ninos's class in Summer. He's a terrific teacher who has profound knowledge at this Economic Field. I enjoyed his lecture and the way of teaching. Well, I highly recommend you to take his Econ class if you haven't. Good Luck to all of you.
Great lectures, chock-full of useful examples. Well worth attending class every day. 5 pop quizzes, 4 take home exams, and an in-class final. Drops the lowest pop quiz and take home exam. Definitely knows how to teach.
Make sure to come to class every day since he does give information not in his notes as well as putting pop quizzes. Other than that, the class is every easy and he is very helpful!
A prof who actually teaches and makes you work for your grade. Not very often you get a prof like this. There's work to do, especially if you're taking other classes, but he tells/gives you everything you need to learn. The rest is on you to dedicate time to study. 4 tests (but all take home/open note), 4 quizzes (1 is a free 100%) and then a final
His exams are pretty difficult, but are take home. He emphasizes on pop quizzes that he randomly assigns during classtime, so make sure to show up to class since the quizzes are actually worth a lot of points. Don't fall asleep or use your phone in class or else he'll call you out in front of everyone midlecture. Really funny lectures.
Great guy, and professor. Very logical person, will influence your perspective about quite a few things. Makes learning interesting. Watch out for pop quizzes, keep up with the reading and take home tests, or else you will be screwed for the final. But overall not too hard. America needs a president like this guy.
Very entertaining while managing to successfully teach all the concepts. His quizzes are easy if you show up to class. Tests are take home! There are 5 pop quizzes and 4 tests. The lowest quiz and test is dropped. (Tests + quizzes 500 points and final exam is worth 500 points) The final is worth half the class but it is similar to his tests.
Amazing & funny lectures, and they cover enough to let you get an A without doing the reading! The entire grade is Pop quizzes, Take-home tests, and the final - no homework/participation :) A very reasonable professor in terms of quizzes/tests; final's a bit hard but manageable. Take him!!
He really is passionate about Econ and he KNOWS how to teach. The class is extremely organized and includes lots of reading. He is intimidating at first, but I found myself waiting to go to his lectures every day. He is very clear and uses lots of real life examples to teach. He is a real inspiration, inspired me to major in the subject!
Pretty easy-to-follow lectures, so show up. first testseasy and lots of time spent last few unitsmore complex and less if any time spent. (read your book for the end (esp the stuff he doesn't lecture on it's a significant portion of the final!) No accent, speaks loudly and clearly, draws big, and speaks in an organized and easy to understandway
Ninos is a very inspirational instructor. He beautifully connects Economic Principles with daily life situations. He made me laugh hard last quarter. You have to read a lot in his class and attendance is a must if you want to pass. There are 5 pop quizzes, 3 midterms and final. Final is half percent of your grade. I highly recommend his class.
Very good teacher and makes the atmosphere very nice. The midterms are all take home, which makes it easy. But the final is the hard one, about 80 questions and it represents 50% of your grade ( better do good on it). We couldn't cover one topic and that was the one mostly on the final.
BEST PROFESSOR AT DA! I am a Econ major, so tread lightly. He will probably read this rating in class out loud(he did this during my quarter), SO HI NINOS! Take home tests, easy. He does do pop quizzes, but if you listen to his lectures, easy. You do have to read. His lectures are straightforward and clear. Final in class. Got A and A+ for ECON12.
one of the best teachers i've taken in de anza. lectures are interesting and clear. really nice guy overall! take him if you actually want to learn something from the course :)
Professor Ninos Malek is the best teacher i have ever taken at De Anza, not only you get to learn econ, but you also learn how to apply it in your daily life. So far, this class has open my eyes to the world by looking through the lenses of an economist, and has been a exciting journey. Ninos Malek, is a very caring, and AMAZING teacher!!!
Easy A course. As long as you remember the libertarian/Austrian-economist viewpoints he teachers during class the tests and final should be easy. You don't even need to read since Qs are straight out of lecture.
This Professor give so good lectures, but he is so lazy. Grading is no fair. Final gets 50% of over all. He said that 90% of the final exam was coming from previous exams. However, the final was totally different. He made me work so hard on my previous exams, but it did not make any sense. This class is not that you could work hard to get an A.
Ninos understands that many in his class are taking it because it's required to transfer for busi majors. That being said, he teaches in a more holistic approach and explains the foundations of econ. You'll see graphs and the terms that come with the class but he teaches in a much broader sense. The final is worth 50% of your grade, be careful.
Alart: This review is ECON 4 ONLY! Ninos' class is funny as usual. He makes me want to go to class and learn because it is so fun. He cracks jokes and makes witty comments. However, as one of the new class on ECON Dep. it is kind of disorganized. Many pop quizs. Some of the wording both on quizs and tests are confusing which may makes it "unfair".
Ninos is an amazing teacher with a gifted talent to constantly keep students focused and eager to learn. He uses relevant examples and adds his own hilarious jokes to keep you attentive. There are five quizzes and 4 tests, both of which he drops the lowest score. Final is 50% of the overall grade so study. Tests are take home and quizzes are pop.
prof ninos malek's lectures are so funny and interesting! doesn't take attendance. pop quizzes are based on his lectures. finals are worth 50% but is based on previous exams. gives a lot of videos n tons of reading. he won't tell u to memorize the textbook, instead he taught us to apply econ irl. econ would change your life after taking him.
By far Ninos Malek is THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Not only you get to learn new stuffs from him, he also teaches dating tips. Easy Class!!!!
I would argue that he is the best Economic professor at De Anza! His lectures are amazing and he gives logical and funny examples to help you understand the material. I suggest reading the textbooks that he recommends because if you attend the lectures and read the books you will get a great grade. I wish this guy taught more classes!!
Dopest teacher out there man, really just gets the vibes that are felt through out the class. Low key doesn't know how to rate good movies, buut he slides as one of the best professors at de anzaaa.
Switches between shouting and talking, it's disorienting. Sit in the back. Skim through the videos he'll send you and attend class. He only gives multiple choice so you can just lightly recall what he says in lecture and you'll get an A. Also gives you new political perspectives. Just answer what he would say on the tests, think about it later.
Ninos Malek is the best professor ever! He gives good advice in dating and he also gives such an amazing lectures!
Ninos Malek is the best of the best! Once you've took his class it's like a wild journey, he opens your eye. After taking his class, he continues to inspire my interest in economics, and I've been enlightened by his teachings. TAKE HIM, YOU WON'T REGRET IT! EVENTHOUGH IF HIS CLASS TIME DOESN'T FIT YOUR SCHEDULE, JUST MAKE IT FIT IN YOUR SCHEDULE!
love the bald head, provided fun, insightful information. worthwhile class, even for high schoolers
His lectures are legendary. He uses real life examples to demonstrate economic principles. If you pay attention and do the reading, you WILL learn. His class is like madlibs, he constantly prompts the class to fill in the blank with economic vocab. Seems to have a libertarian outlook on most things, which is very refreshing in the liberal bay area.
Professor Ninos Malek has enlightened me! Taking his class is always marginal benefit marginal cost, I guarantee you, you won't regret it and you'll learn a lot through his class and apply it in your life! Including love life.
Malek is the best!!! Worth taking his class! The marginal benefits in taking his class is always greater than the marginal cost.
The BEST professor EVER!!!!!!!! Youll never get bored with his class
Best teacher at De Anza I think. He is really funny and makes us laugh everything. He explains all his notes with reality and it is very interesting to listen to him. 4 exams and 5 quiz (Drop the lowest) worth 50% and the final exam worth 50% of your grade. So make sure U come to class and pay attention. Take him if you want interesting class.
Malek is really hilarious and inspiring. Grades are entirely based on test scores. Doesn't require to finish all the readings (which is a lot), but they might appear in pop quizzes. You can definitely learn things out of the textbook that are applicable to everyday life from him!
You'll pass the take home tests. You'll maybe pass the quizzes. You'll definitely fail the final exam lol
Professor Malek is an amazing professor. All his lectures are very funny and great, and there is never a dull day in coming to class. His Econ 2 class is actually the first class I have had full attendance in because I didn't want to miss his lectures or the possibility of missing a quiz. There is a lot of reading but tests and quizzes are easy.
Amazing professor. Lectures are never boring and 2 hrs go by fast with him. Encourages to read ahead (take his word on that). Does everything he can to help you pass and enjoy the class. Don't skip class bc he shows videos and adds to lectures he will not email unless if you ask a friend in class. Procrastinate on reading and you will suffer a lot!
Great teacher. You won't get the same perspective from most other professors. His lectures are funny and informative. He gives a lot of reading assignments, but you can get by with skimming if you attend all of the lectures. Pop quizzes are piled toward the end of quarter, but they're short and mostly covered by the lectures.
Dr. Malek's lectures show how much he understand economics. I took his macroeconomics while exploring potential majors; unfortunately, the subject turned out not to be my cup of tea, but I'm very happy to have learned some very practical economic (life) lessons from this man! This class is great if you want to get a good taste of the subject.
Very informative teacher, helped me learn a lot about economics.
Ninos Malek is one of the greatest professors I have ever had. Lectures are interesting and thought provoking. Don't be afraid to ask questions! He also shares a libertarian POV which was intriguing as most professors in the Bay Area tend not share similar views. A must take. If his class doesn't fit in your schedule, MAKE IT FIT!!
He's pretty full of himself, makes me lose respect for him and makes attending his lectures difficult. For instance, he constantly talks about his rate my professor score, and how the only people who give him bad reviews are people who don't do the assigned reading. He's a fine professor who teaches for his tests.
I love to get Fs. Therefore, signing up for his Econ class was the perfect choice. Plenty of reading, pop quizzes that arent easy, and tests that will have you spend hours deciphering the wording behind the questions. I havent even gotten to the final yet and Im sure it will be impossible. Ahhh what a wonderful course. Really hits the spot.
Hell send you an email 30 minutes before class telling you to watch 4 videos and remember them for a potential quiz. 5 pop quizzes and theyre not as easy as most make it out to be. 4 tests and theyre difficult despite being take home tests. Plenty of reading that is necessary if you want to do well. I personally wouldnt take him again.
Professor Malek is my favorite professor ever. For this class procrastination is your enemy. Starts off slow, so you can read ahead to stay on schedule with his lectures, popquizzes. READ, reread chapters in ALL 3 books, come 2 CLASS to get that A grade. 5 TrickyLecture PopQuizzes. 4 Takehome Exams . 1Tough Final. Drops 1test 1quiz. love u mr malek
I'm taking him right now and this is an honest assessment. He clearly knows his stuff and his lectures are very informative. His structure is difficult to work with though. I can definitely see why some people struggle and don't like it. You can get an a good grade in this class, but it won't be easy.
To all students before taking his Econ 2, I would suggest you to take his Econ 1 first! You will better understand his lectures and explanations if you do that. The only thing I wish is that he should give extra credits opportunities and a little project which would worth 10% and his final exam would drop to 40% instead of 50%. Great Prof overall
Ninos almost made me change my major to Economics because of his wonderful lectures that kept me motivated in my life. Ninos Malek is the best!!!! Ninos Malek FOREVER!!!!!
To the person below, that was a very naive and childish statement to make. You do not know the circumstances that different students go through each quarter. That aside, he is a good teacher who makes you work for your grade. You will come out of the class feeling like you understood a lot about economics.
Simply 4 take-home tests and 5 pop quizzes (Drop the lowest for both) worth 50% and a final exam worth 50%. Hint: If you cheat on the take-home tests then you won't pass the final. Ninos made our life easier but at the end the final exam will decide if you really studied or not. You will never get bored in his class. Take him!!!!
Had a 3.9 GPA prior to his course. To put it bluntly, if you don't do the work and expect to get a good grade in this class then you're to blame for your final grade. However, if you do all of the readings, do the online lab, attend all of the lectures, take notes, ask him questions, and still get a bad grade, I don't blame you one bit.
Very good teacher with a good sense of humor. In my opinion, it is impossible not to get an A for his class as you can find the answers online for the take home test and he also gives so many hints during the in class quiz. The final was a breeze considering it was all MCQ questions. On top of that, gives 10 points for free.
There are lots of readings/articles to read, but the textbook is pretty sufficient enough for most people to do well in the class. He's a really good teacher and his class is easy. I wish he spent more time on the macroeconomics part of the class since it was pretty confusing at first. Read the textbook for unit 3+4, the final is like 90% macroecon
Macro Students be aware that he types up your notes for Unit 1 and Unit 2. However, Unit 3 and 4 is basically you on your own and he GOES fast during these 2 units. Then he adds NEW material before the FINAL, but he somehow has practice questions on his site that will be similar to questions on final. "WE are doing this for him"-You'll find out :)
Micro Students you're in luck if you took his Macro class because unit 1 and unit 2 are same except he adds a new topic to Unit 2. Also, keep the Hazlitt book! Don't slack off and maintain a reading schedule because there are more chapters. Unit 4 is tough, Unit 3 is decent and no new material at the end! YOUR SMALL BLUE BOOK WILL HELP ALOT. GL!
I took this class over summer to be transferred to my four year university. By far one of the best professors I'll ever have. His lectures are really engaging and explain the material really well. You'll easily be able to do well just by going to class.
I took Prof. Malek for both my Econ 1 and Econ 2. He is one of the greatest professors I've ever had because I genuinely learned so much about Econ and I had a thirst to learn more. Yes, there are readings, yes there are unannounced quizzes and yes the final is hard, but the knowledge you take away from this class beats all the bumps. Take him!
Took His class in the Summer after not being in school for a year and this was a great class to get back on the school grind! He's hilarious, easy to talk to and you really do learn from him. There is a lot of reading but by now what class isn't. Really enjoyed his class! Keep on being an Awesome Professor Dr Malek!
Dr. Ninos Malek is beyond Amazing!! Hes genuinely the best of the best professor you can have. I switched my major because of his teachings. #freemarket #Econ #PublicChoice
He cracks a lot of jokes during class. 4 take home tests which are relatively easy if you do the reading and pay attention during lectures. Gave a practice exam. Easily one of my favorite professors at De Anza.
Ninos Malek's class is all about self study. He hardly teaches in class. Take another professor if you prefer someone who teaches.
He uses real life examples to teach economics. He is a great speaker and makes class interesting. There is a lot of reading that students have to do but he tells students that on the first day. He is funny also and answers questions if students don't understand.
Ninos is literally the BEST professor I have EVER had the pleasure of taking. He is one of the most caring and funny professors out there. His teaching style is next to none, he truly makes everything seem so easy and explains things so well. If you are looking for a professor who will genuinely help you learn good econ then take him. No HW,4 test
Quality instructor, gives you many different POV's. Gives you real life examples and ties it into his lectures seamlessly. No homework, tests are all take home except the final.
Does not take attendance. 4 tests , ALL ARE TAKE HOME TESTS and drops the lowest test each 200 points (600 total). Final is 400 points and is easy if you just study the previous tests. Do good on the take home tests and do average on the final and you should pass the class. He does make you do a lot of the readings in the book but it helps on test
He is AMAZING at teaching and he everything provided is very straight forward. Although he doesn't take attendance, come to class because everything he explains or says in class is what will be on the final. Although there is a lot to read, you can pass without reading anything as long as you come to class and understand what he is teaching. Easy A
His lectures will never bore you which is something pretty hard to come by within this subject, but he does a really good job making lectures really entertaining. Be aware though that the only thing that dictates your grade is the five tests he gives, and the final is worth 60% of your grade. If you show up, and understand his lectures youll be ok
WOW! Ninos Malek is a gem at De Anza. He truly is the greatest professor ive ever had, as an Economics major he taught me so much. I truly believe that Ninos should be a professor at Stanford or Columbia, he is underemployed for sure. If you truly want to learn economics take any class he offers. Top 10 prof at De Anza hands down.
Funny lectures. Final exam heavy. Even if I read the textbooks assigned for his class, I was still not able to pass. Final exam was mainly about what he didn't teach us. We had to read it before exam date but still couldn't understand certain parts.
I'm taking Econ1&2 with Dr. Malek this summer and so far he has been my favorite professor in all 3 years I've been at cc. Grade is exam-based mult choice so not an 'easy' A but I definitely have an ample understanding on all the topics covered so far from both lectures and the reading. He's so smart/funny and I look forward to this class everyday!
All of his quizzes are take home. My tip for the final is to just study the quizzes and read the textbook for the new topics included before the final. I really enjoy his lectures and I think I got a lot out of his class. Anyone who rates lower just simply didn't do their work and did not read the new sections before the final. REMEMBER THE GRAPHS.
Great professor. I still have his books. He has good energy and focuses on the core ideas without expecting you to memorize like you are an econ major. You have to attend class to get what his tests will focus on.
Dr. Ninos Malek is the most AMAZING professor ever! His lectures are inspiring, and he teaches life lessons in an economical way of thinking. Furthermore, he's very accessible outside of class whenever you have any problems, including dating relationships. For my final words, his teachings completely changed my life. Many students loved him 3000.
Great teacher! You only have 5 tests which are all take home tests and not going to lie the majority of the test questions are easily found on google. However, if you do google all the take home test questions and dont read any of the books you will very likely fail the final exam which is taken in class, and will probably pass with a C or B-
Really awesome teacher! He makes economics interesting since it can be a dull subject. If you just look up the answers for the tests make sure you know your stuff for the final.
Dr. Malek is awesome! I took him for both Econ 1A and 1B, and I truly enjoyed coming to every lecture. He is the best Econ professor to have at De Anza. I ended up switching my major to Econ at my CSU after transferring, and I gotta say #NORAGRETS . Shout out to Dr. Malek for inspiring me to choose Econ as my major!
He's a very responsible professor. Funny professor. Great way of teaching in class through giving funny and easy understanding examples.
Look for more from your teacher. Malek grades from 4 tests only & a final. Fail the final, fail the class. His teaching style is closed lectures. Heavy reading from 3 books is mandatory to pass. We did not learn the principles & calcs. of economics, tho, he does well applying econ to life. No HW, take home tests. I prefer interactive learning.
You can get an A on all the take-home tests, but the final is 60% of your overall grade so if you don't show up to at least 90% of the lectures and skim the reading you won't get an overall A. Of all things, you can always count on Dr. Malek to be inspiring, say he's going to be harsher than he actually is and show up a few minutes late.
He doesn't assign papers or projects and there are no presentations. He gives 5 tests and drops one and give a multiple choice Final at end. He is up front and clear at the beginning about the way he teaches and how he grades. Coming to class and reading are both important and he says that. He is very clear about how he grades and what to study.
I took professor Ninos Econ1 and Econ 2. He got5 take-home tests and 1 60% final. I really like his lecture and he inspired me to change my major from business to econ which he is really proud of this. He is also approachable. Btw, as an international student, his final might be difficult b/c it has a lot of words just like a reading test.
SUPER EASY CLASS! Graded by 5 take-home tests and the lowest is dropped, along with one final worth 60%. He is a very great professor and definitely deserves 5 stars. On the first day of class he hypes himself up a bit too much though... he is a great teacher but a bit overconfident. Solid teacher, you won't regret taking him and you'll learn a lot
He is a nice professor. I liked economics because of him. He makes everything easy and very understandable. However, you will do a lot of reading in his class.
When I sent him emails about the course before the quarter started he was very vague Only a day before the course started, he told everyone that one of the textbooks cannot be borrowed. He also requires students to buy a 120 dollar myeconlab code and assigns 5 to 6 readings every 2 days. Take another professor if you want to learn economics.
Took over Summer 2019 for Micro, excellent, thought-provoking professor. Very interesting lectures, clear grading and ground rules. Provides a variety of resources as opposed to one solid textbook, many interesting listens and reads. Don't be initimidated by the grading, wish I discovered him sooner
Five tests and the final, no quizzes/homework/projects. I do hate how the class is set up to where if you don't pass the final you wont pass the class, however there is no homework or additional work just lots of reading. His lectures are super funny, and makes learning econ entertaining, but if you want to really learn econ don't take him.
I took professor Malek for econ 1 and 2 and I love his class. As long as you read and watch his lecture videos you will be doing ok. However, your grade is based on 4 tests and a final. I would recommend his class.
Just the charisma this dude exudes would make any class enjoyable. Made me love econ that's for sure. Lectures didn't necessarily prepare you for everything on tests, but they were still worth it to go to just for him. Spicy bald man Niños is the greatest professor I've ever taken.
I've taken 3 econ classes w Malek at De Anza and an upper division one at SJSU. He's an amazing professor, very straight forward w his lecture and expectations. All midterms are take home and no random pop quizzes. However, you do need to read as "homework" in order to understand his lectures more. Very dope teacher!
online class, basically no homework. just readings to prepare you for the quizzes and tests which were mostly general concepts. mostly multiple choice exams. don't slack off and it's very easy with little effort. also offers an extra credit essay.
A very solid professor. Very understandable lecture and self-paced. Test heavy (5 tests and 1 final) but takes only 4 out of 5 of the midterm exams with the best score. Many of his practice tests are super effective in myeconlab as they are identical to the real tests. Highly recommend!
He is a really great teacher and he gives very precise steps on what to do. The only word of advice is to check canvas/ your email every day.
5 multiple-choice tests in total, but he drops the lowest. The final multiple-choice test is worth around 50%-60% of your grade. Probably the best professor at De Anza, y'all have to take him for econ. Straight-forward and easy class.
Really an amazing teacher the class is structure a bit different than usual but still fairly easy to managed, this class was definitely one that I would take and trying to take again. All the lecture and videos provided help you pass the exams , he drops one of the exams I recommend not slacking off at the end since the final is comprehensive.
Great professor! Definitely take him if you are interested in economics. You will be exposed to a variety of source material (books, essays, videos) and get to better understand the real-life applications of economics. Lectures are funny and engaging especially for an asynchronous class.
Kind of a wacky professor which what he says but the videos he shows really makes you think. (sweatshops can be good??) All the questions are from the book so read it for an A and watch the short videos if you care about economics. I didn't bother watching his lectures cuz it was just him explaining the textbook. Easy A if you're good with tests.
Clear grading guidelines. Does not force his opinions on students so I felt safe learning about the material. If you're taking this class just to pass to get it over with, you'll be fine. Easy A.
Extremely clear, concise, and straight to the point. He has a lot of resources and information compiled, the points will get across to learn microeconomics.
He's a very cool guys who gives directions that are clear and concise. Very good class and an easy A if you do well on the tests. He grades off of 5 multiple choice tests (highest 4 count) and 1 multiple choice final.
He has five tests and a final, all with no time limit on a separate website. The test has questions that are pretty much verbatim from the textbook, so they're pretty easy. Professor Malek is a little unorganized in this world of online classes, so the start of the quarter had no tests, and we crammed in the rest toward the end.
TAKE HIS CLASS. The reviews here are not joking - super informative class and very manageable workload. Graded off 5 tests (highest 4) and the final. His lectures and provided notes are amazingly clear and straightforward, helped me a ton in another Econ class I'm taking now. Will prepare you well for Macro if you do the readings.
The class was well structured and enjoyable. Learning was based on 3 economics books, lectures, videos, and essays to read. It is all manageable and the multitude of resources helps with the understanding of the concepts. The entire course grade was based on 4 exams (no other assignments/1 exam dropped), so focus on understanding the concepts.
He's a great teacher. Explains everything perfectly. His lectures are good. He actually takes time to teach you and really cares. Only a couple tests and a final. Study, read, listen to what he says and you will pass. Im taking him for Econ 2 next. TAKE HIM.
This class is all online with no zoom meetings and everything goes at your speed but the professor gives suggested due dates to finish readings. There are no hw, quizzes, discussions. The class is solely graded by exams, 5 exams and a final, he drops 2 of the exams. He is very good with responding to emails and is pretty fast about it too.
His exams are take-home and easy to do well. He is like a great therapist and provides lots of life tips and relates them to economics. His final exam is a bit difficult as it's condensed and worth the majority of the class grade. Make sure to study well and find a good study group if you want to get an A in the class
I didn't have any problems with how the class was taught but I thought he could be better with showing the schedule of the quarter. Instead of giving clear timelines of readings and tests, he would send an email two days before he suggested you do it by which was not very helpful. I just wish he sent the plan for 1 or 2 weeks and left it at that.
Is graded on exams only so if you're not good with exams I would search for another. I had professor Malek for ECON 1 and 2 and they are both the same grading structure and same amount of exams, 5 exams takes best 3 and 1 final. He is really responsive to emails you send and tries his best to help you with any questions. Highly reccommend
Really easy. Gave quizzes that you get to take at home and lectures are non-mandatory! Took ab 4 quizzes but easy.
I had to work for my A. It's a lot of reading but the knowledge is useful! He recently changed his test so they can't be found online anymore :C
Took for both macro and micro economics. Most of the content is based on the textbook reading and he also gives youtube videos and his own lectures. Class is very flexible and exams are open book and untimed! He drops 2 exams out of 5. The content does tend towards libertarian/conservative views but overall the classes were pretty good.
Prof Malek is extremely informative and use a lot of resources from the textbooks that we were given. There’s 5 exams and a final. He drops two exams. There’s no homework which is helpful if you have other classes, which is a handful of work. He gives you a lot of time to complete the exam and it’s open notes!
Really good professor. He is always sending emails to explain the schedule for the week. The lectures are interesting and fun, and I learned a lot. I highly recommend his class.
You get out of this class as much as you put in. He posts great videos for you to watch that explain the material really well. His lectures are also super interesting and very clear. He is really nice and can explain the material well. He only grades tests but drops your two lowest ones. Tests are also unlimited time (you have abt 50 hrs I think).
Your grade comes from 3 tests (you take 5 and he drops the lowest two grades) and the final. The tests are online and open-note, and the final is in-person. Everything is multiple-choice. Show up, take good notes, do the reading, and you'll be fine. He can be a bit abrasive as a person, but I appreciated his perspective.
I took his ECON 2 class in person. He explains the contents so well that you do not even need to read the books. I am getting more into economics because of him. He grades you from 3 online tests (5 tests and drops 2) and one in-person final exam. Show up in class, take good notes, and take the tests regularly and you are good.
He's a gem professor, I would recommend him!!!!!
Overall great professor. Provides a lot of reading material and videos to ensure you understand the concepts. Just fyi we didn't have our first test until a few weeks in so there was not much work in the beginning but by the end of the course, we had a bunch of homework and tests every week to catch up.
He's a fantastic professor. I would love to retake him in the future if I need to. Highly recommended. You should pass his class with an easy A. Super-super clear about everything. But if you miss his classes you'll suck in the class. Reading and attending class are not mandatory but really important if you actually want to learn something.
He's a fantastic professor. I would love to retake him in the future if I need to. Highly recommended. If you fail his class that's on you. If you actually want to learn something take him
Professor Malek is one of the best professors I ever had. You could tell he really enjoyed teaching, and every class was always super interesting. He used really good real life examples that made concepts easier to understand. He is also very straightforward with the expectations of his class. I 100% recommend him if you want to take econ.
Don't recommend. Condescending in all his emails. Highlights/bolds everything like you won't understand otherwise. Emails at random times of the day. Expects you to read them. Doesn't have any "hw" but you have read and do everything in order to pass exams. Just doesn't want to have to grade anything so its "optional" hw.
the easiest professor in de Anza. if you boost your GPA you must take his class
Easiest class I've taken in my entire life.
Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend you to go to class because you won't pass if you didn't understand the theories. Graded by five take-home tests(drops lowest two) and one in-person final. The final is kinda hard but grade A is achievable if you go to classes, do the readings and watch the videos he posts on Canvas.
He is an amazing professor. There are a lot of things to read, but this course is life changing, so take it if you can. This class may cause you to consider minoring in ECON, BE WARNED!
Best professor I've ever had so far. You will succeed if you do the reading and pay attention in class. He challenges the way you think, has a generous grading policy, and posts notes online so you can pay full attention to his lectures. He uses real word examples, call-and-response, and repetition to reinforce key concepts. Eye-opening class.
Ninos is preeminent in the field of Econ. He's an experienced instructor. He replies emails in time. Pay attention to his lecture and do the readings, then the exams will be fine. 5 exams (drop 2 lowest) and a final exam. He can explain a concept very well. Really nice guy.
Professor Ninos Malek is an amazing econ teacher who manages to explain complex concepts in a simple manner. Lectures are engaging and interesting but they can sometimes be repetetive. Attending class isn't even mandatory but I would highly encourage going to the lectures as the information learned is helpful towards any student.
Took Professor Malek's class for both micro and macro econ. Both classes were in the same format with similar questions because it's an intro class. 5 Quizzes (50% of Grade) 1 Final (50% of Grade). He drops two quizzes and the other three percentage wise are worth 50% of your grade. Requires you to purchase access to my Econlab. Lots of reading!
I knew nothing about economic before I took his class so was actually bit nervous but the way he teaches is amazing. He help students understand
This online class is a trap.Grade only by MCQ exams & the percentage u get will be counted towards to your grade. That means if he gave u 40 MCQ,u can't miss over 3 questions to get A(92.5%).If u rely on finding answer online,u can get B to A-,but definitely not A.u're basically on your own with your textbook, don't take him if u want to be taught.
Exams can be long and painful if you want to get more than 92.5%. His recorded lectures just read his notes and slides without detailed explainations of the concepts. You mostly rely on reading Pearson textbook on your own.
No required homework or class work though recommended. The only required assignments are the 5 tests and the final. Each test and the final has around 50-100 questions. The best 3 out of the 5 tests are graded. You don't learn much but it is an easy A if you just do the test and the final. Don't recommend to a person who genuinely wants to learn.
Professor Malek's ECON001 class was well-structured. Lectures were engaging, and using unstuckstudy AI helped solidify concepts. Attendance is key, but the workload is manageable with dedication.
Absolutely amazing professor! Not only does he teach exceptionally well, but his jokes and humor are even better!!! He is able to make economics into a practical, beneficial and enjoyable subject. His classes are one of the things you would regret not taking in your life, would definitely recommend him:)
Malek is an excellent teacher who cares about the subject and students. Very straightforward, you'll always know his expectations. Grades: 5 tests (50%, 2 dropped) and a final (50%). Challenging class, not due to content but because aiming for an A is tricky due to question wording. Attend class and do the reading and you'll get a D-B.
My comment was removed. Anyway, take this class online, don't take in-person.
Professor Ninos Malek was amazing! He brought great energy to every lecture, had excellent speaking skills, and made the material easy to understand. His use of engaging videos and outside sources was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable, qualified, and a fair grader—truly an inspiring educator!
Not sure why the tough reviews, but looks like they're for his in person courses. Take online. Took both ECON1&2 together during summer session. 5 tests/exams....that's it.
Malek is awesome, super easy class but you learn a lot just because he's actually interesting to listen to. No homework whatsoever but unnecessary because everything is common sense. Showed up plastered with 3 hours of sleep to final exam worth 50% of grade and got an A. Wish he taught all my other classes.
The class is not hard, but the difficulty might be your discipline to not slack off after the tests. Took an in-person class and it was a great experience. Learning material is demonstrated with real life examples. Hilarious professor! There are 5 tests which 2 are dropped, and 1 final exam. Highly recommend taking his class.
If you're here you can see the other reviews. Malek gives interactive lectures and is a phenomenal educator. He doesn't beat about the bush(and he checks this page too btw). You'll have 5 tests and a final. They're take home and open note—final excepted. The lowest two tests are dropped. Literally all you have to do is show up and listen. :)
Lectures and his teaching skills are amazing. Easy to understand. But there are a lot of readings, so if you are an ESL student, it could be hard to deal with. There are 5 tests, and he drops the two lowest ones, and a final. Tests are usually 50 or more, the final was 80 problems.
Malek is an excellent teacher who cares about the subject and students. Very straightforward, you'll always know his expectations Grades: 5 tests (50%, 2 worst tests dropped) and a final (50%). Challenging class, not due to content but because aiming for an A is tricky due to question wording. Attend class and do the reading and you'll get a C-B
The dude is honestly great at giving lectures. Ninos is very clear and articulate and straight to the point. And he incorprates a lot of real world examples into economics concepts. He's also really funny. He looks like Steve Kerell only if he were bald. The only thing hard was having to read a lot. He also will answer your questions after lectures
Class is only based on 3 highest test scores while the rest are dropped. Didn't read or watch every single thing assigned and still did well on the final. Lectures are useful but not required. The professor is interesting and definitely is passionate about the subject.
