Professor Shabek is very caring teacher. I like the pace of writing and the clarity. Even thought the BIS102 materials is hard to digest he always made sure to simplify things for the class and focus on the importance. He made the lectures interesting with many fun facts and real examples. Exams are not too hard. I would definitely recommend.
He teaches at a great pace, which allows us to understand topics very clearly (his average for the midterm material he taught us was an 87%). He is so kind and caring in office hours and really takes the time to go through the material clearly! I have had both Monfared and Shabek, and I think both are equally amazing!! Just put the work in!!!!!
Dr. Shabek really helped simplifying biochemistry and made it interesting. He is always very clear on what information you need to know for the exam. He also provides many online resources. This is not an easy class but you can get an A if you put the time and effort in.
Dr. Shabek is a solid choice. He taught the class with Dr. Monfared and they made the class enjoyable. Dr. Shabek explains biochemistry with fun examples and videos. He wrote all lecture notes and post them. Beware that there lots to memorize in this class but both Dr. Shabek and Dr. Monfared provided many resources & practices that helped.
Dr. Shabek is one of the most kind and caring professors I have had at UC Davis. Not only are his lectures clear but his exams reflect everything he teaches. He is a great professor and he also is a lot of fun. He plays music, biochem videos and reviews tiktoks before lecture. He clearly enjoys his job and as a student I felt valued.
Prof. Shabek is one of the most caring professors I had here at UC Davis. He was so kind and really makes you feel that you are important to him. The class was on-line because of covid, but attendances was helpful for me because he had an interactive style that helped to stay more alert. The final exam is soon, but the midterms so far were fair.
Professor Shabek has been one of my favorite professors here. He knows his subject really well and cares a lot about student's learning as well as their mental health. His lectures are amazing and interactive and his exams are very fair, no curveballs, as long as you study the lectures and practice, getting an A is very doable. Take him if you can!
I am so happy I chose Prof. Shabek's BIS 102 section. Lectures were on zoom, he use ipad to annotate the slides which was very helpful (I didn't read much the textbook). The class is very organized, he takes the time to explain things and is very caring in class and office hours. The first two midterm exams were easier than the third but fair.
I wish I had Professor Shabek for every stem class. It is so clear he cares for his students and values their feedback throughout the duration of the course. He has polls during lecture to gauge student understanding and genuinely wants students to grasp BIS102 instead of just taking tests to get A's. He makes his exams extremely fair as well.
Overall great professor, take him if you can! The class, online, is based off of 3 exams (very fair) and the final (havent taken yet). Hes very caring and decided to drop the lowest exam out of the 3! I attended lectures live on zoom and I believe that helped significantly. I wish he taught bis103!
Professor Shabek is one of my favorite professors. We just had our last lecture and I am going to miss him. The class is not easy and I was so scared before taking it, but shabek made it so great and simplify things, emphasize what important and what less important. I wish he will teach BIS 103.
Dr. Shabek is hands down the best professor at UCD. He is so understanding and kind and transforms very difficult material into simpler concepts. He was generous enough to drop our lowest midterm which demonstrates that he listens to his students. Take his class in winter!! You won't regret it.
Prof. Shabek is a solid choice. I'm so happy to have taken this course with him. He made biochemistry much less scary, for sure. He used videos and annotated his slides. Make sure to go over his slides and memorize when he say so before the exams. The midterms were easier than the final but all were fair. Office hours saved me.
Class is graded by only midterms and final. I didnt use textbook or practices he gave but theyre very helpful. Just need the lectures and understanding them to pass. V helpful on piazza. His practice midterms mirrors his actual one. He even dropped one midterm for us cuz students were struggling.
Shanes is one of my most favorite profs at UC Davis. I wish he taught more biochem classes, I would take him without hesitation. The class is clear and organized and he has such an awesome accent. He always available and listening. He recruits top students to his research lab in the end of the quarter and I hope to start working there soon!
Your whole grade is based solely on exams and the final. So if youre the kind of person who doesnt preform well on tests then I wouldnt recommend his class. Another issue I had was the fact that he used his office hours and TAs office hours as extensions to the lecture, so if you miss out on attending those you also miss out practice problems.
Prof. Shabek truly cares and want us to succeed. Lectures are clear, organized, and easy to follow. BIS102 is not an easy class, but Shabek provides so much support. Negative feedback from students that posted only two weeks after the class begun are biased & unfair (they probably did poorly in the first easy midterm). He is a true gem!
Lecture is important to attend valuable information is given about test concepts. Grades based on 2 midterms/project/final (standard for upper div science). Help from Prof/TA's in OHs weekly. Material heavy but doable as long as consistent with lectures, study groups encouraged, piazza help avail. Enjoyable class to take while at UCD
Dr. Shabek is amazing. He is the best professor I have had at UC Davis yet. He makes biochemistry enjoyable and is extremely motivating. Always super encouraging before midterms and tells the class "you got this!" Exams are super fair. I wish Dr. Shabek taught more STEM classes because I would choose him every time!
Love this prof!! His lectures are captivating and his tests are predictable. His practice tests are very similar to the actual midterms and he covers it all in class as well. Go to lecture, do the study guides and practice problems if u want extra and you’ll do great! Readings aren’t necessary. You’re graded on 3 MT+final, no graded homework.
If you see him, take him. He gives the fairest grading and exams I've ever had.
Great professor, take him if you can! He grades very generously but is not a careless professor by any means, he cares about his students and would go to great depth to make sure we succeeds. As long as you study, you will thrive in this class!
He is the exact Professor that should exist in all the schools and colleges so that our education system can get better. Forget about that BIS 102 is a hard class because he makes you UNDERSTAND the material so well that you dont have to do anything extra and just follow his guidelines. So work hard the same way he does to help student.
dr. shabek is an amazing professor, he really cares about his students. his lectures are clear and concise with lots of concrete examples. he is one of the best professors i have taken in davis, i highly recommend
Dr. Shabek is so accommodating and funny. The exams were really fair as long as you watch the lectures and do the practice problems. I enjoyed his class!
Doctor Shabek hands down is one of the best Professors on campus. He presented the information so well, gave a ton of practice questions and honestly was active in answering questions on piazza, hosting office hours. He sets the standard so high for what a Professor ought to be. He was delightful to take and I wish he taught more classes.
Dr Shabek has by far been the best professor I've had at Davis. He is very clear about what is going to be on the exam, his lectures and practice exams he shares fully prepare you for what is coming on the test. Mona is a good prof as well for BIS102 but a friend recommended I take shabek, which is am forever grateful for. He makes BIS102 fun!!
Prof. Shabek is AMAZING. If I have a chance to take him again , I would 10000000%. He really cares about his students and wants us to enjoy biochem. He gives his previous practice exams (from 1-2 years ago) for us to do and it is really representative of our exams.Literally no way to fail if you put it in effort. If you get the chance, go with him!
Professor Shabek is one of the best professors I've had at Davis! He is funny and makes learning enjoyable. The analogies he makes when teaching helped me understand the material better. His exams were always fair and expected. BIS 102 is a hard class in general, but as long as you put in the work, you should get a decent grade with Shabek.
Amazing Professor!!! Take him I swear you will get an A.
Dr. Shabek is an amazing professor; he posts all the lecture slides and annotated slides fast and does everything at an amazing speed. He truly cares about all his students and their wellbeing. Tests are super straightforward and he does not aim to trick students at all. Lots of students did well in his class and he still dropped an exam.
On the last day of lecture, I kid you not, I whispered to my close friend, “It’s sad that this is our last Shabek lecture. We’ll never have such an amazing, extraordinary prof again”. Dr. Shabek is inspiring, compassionate, and the best professor I’ve ever had. May God protect this man, and all his amazing TA’s and tutors at all costs.
Professor Shabek is great. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. He provides practice exams that are very similar to actual exams, so there's no curveballs. He's very clear about what you need to know for exams. He very obviously cares a lot about his student's success. He's my favorite professor so far, highly recommend him for BIS 102!
Dr. Shabek is amazing!! He's so kind to his students and really wants the best for them. I am not the biggest fan of biochem but he made it interesting and so easy to understand. 10/10 recommend :)
Professor Shabek is amazing. He really cares about his students and tries to teach concepts as easy as he can (remember that this is a hard subject). I would take him again and recommend anyone to take him. The whole class is based off of 3 exams and a final but the tests were more than fair. 10/5 rating if I could.
Biochem is a hard subject but Shabek makes it the most accessible it can be. He was very positive throughout the whole quarter and very active on Piazza. He definitely cares about his students, and even dropped our lowest midterm score. You do have to put in work, but this class is manageable to get a good grade if you give it the attention.
Best professor I have had at Davis! He made biochem understandable and as straightforward as possible. His exams were very fair and he was accessible for help. Highly recommend!
Dr. Shabek is one of my favorite professors at UC Davis. He genuinely cared about his students and did his best to help the students pass his class. He provided textbook practice questions weekly that were very helpful for studying and preparing you well for the exams. Dr. Shabek was amazing. I couldn't have asked for more from him.
GREAT professor! The best in UC Davis, hands down. His lectures are super easy to follow and there is an OH every day. He doesn't make his exams unnecessarily hard and it is easy to pass as long as you watch the lectures and ask questions to make sure you thoroughly understand the concept. Dr. Shabek provides a LOT of practice. Hard to not do well
One of the BEEEEST professors I ever had!! Super caring, clear lectures, fast grading, fair exams. Pr. Shabek explains concepts in a very clear way. He also provides tons of resources to help you do well in his class. It is not a 'super' easy class, but I promise if you put in the work and do the practice exams and hwk, you'll be good!!
Professor Shabek, if you're reading this, you are the best professor I've had at Davis. UC Davis does not deserve this angel. It's never been so straightforward to earn the grade you want while actually learning the material. I wish all my professors were like him. He is such a g; absolutely zero regrets taking his class.
Dr. Shabek takes the time to ensure that students are not over-stressed, clearly annotates his slides, and answers questions thoroughly, and has a great teaching style. Slides and practice exams were available through canvas, which really helped to review the material before the test. I wish he taught all the biochem classes- things would be better
If there was a way to give this professor a rating higher than 5 I would definitely do it. His lectures are on point! Midterms reflect his lectures and practice problems. He's team of TAs including himself will answer the questions on the piazza within 15 minutes. I hope he was teaching more BIS courses. GOD BLESS THIS GUY HIS AMAZING!!!
best of the best. take him if you can!!!
Dr. Shabek is one of my favorite professors at Davis! He made the biochem concepts easy and hosted very helpful OH every week (I def recommend going to it every week since there's a lot of material and he goes over it step by step). I loved and appreciated that he emphasized what was important to remember and to study the amino acids early.
Great great great great professor! His lectures are well organized, and explains everything very clearly. Highly recommend going to his office hours for more in depth explantations. His midterms are very fair if you go to the lectures, do the practice problems and review everything he posts on canvas. Wish he taught more classes. TAKE HIM!!
literally the best professor i've ever had in uc davis so far.. not only were the biochem concepts made easy to understand but the exams weren't terrifying due to the numerous practice exams posted ahead of time. in addition to this, there was office hours available every day of the week which was insanely helpful!
Great great great professor!! His lectures are well organized and explains everything very clearly. Highly recommend going to his office hours for more in depth explanations. His tests are very fair if you go to the lectures, do the practice problems and basically review everything he posts on canvas. Wish he taught more classes. TAKE HIM!!
Love Shabek!! BIS102 can seem hard or dense if not taught well, but he made this class so easy to understand biomolecules. With the frequent office hours, weekly practice problems, and practice exams, you will ALWAYS feel prepared for the midterms and final! You will not regret it if you take BIS102 with Shabek 100000%!
Dr. Shabek made a daunting subject extremely friendly. He cares about his students a lot, and constantly motivates us before each exam. Exams are exactly what you would expect if you do all practice given on the Canvas page, easy to earn As on tests. One of the best profs in Davis - would 100% take again. Also, he's hilarious.
Shabek was an incredible lecturer, he did a great job of going slow. Tests were exactly as expected, no surprises! Before every midterm, he talked about the importance of mental health and emphasized how much he believed in us, these words of affirmation went a long way for me and helped me succeed. Highly recommend taking bis102 with Shabek!!
dr shabek explains each topic thoroughly! his practice exams are very similar to his actual exams, and he also provides additional weekly practices every week from the textbook! he gives out small prep-talks before every exam which is honestly super kind of him. he overall is an amazing professor! 100% would take his class again
Easy class with only a little studying needed. Shabek is very clear during lectures about what you have to know and the midterms are fair and straightforward. No homework, no quizzes. He gives you practice tests and the midterms are very similar to them. He's also just a nice professor and taking his class was fun.
BIS102 is no joke, it's packed with materials from the get-go but Dr. Shabek mastered the art of teaching. Even though attendance is not mandatory, you must go to his lectures they're brilliant, super clear, and he really care that everyone will understand. The class is highly organized on canvas and piazza, he is truly amazing.
Dr Shabek has mastered the art of teaching his Bis102 class in a way that is informative and meaningful to most of his students. There is a rhythm in his teaching method.
Dr. Shabek is phenomenal and definitely stands out amongst the BIS professors. I cannot think of one complaint about Dr. Shabek; he responds quickly whether it's email or piazza, provides an abundance of practice exams that are reflective of what he actually gives, and has great lectures. Not an easy A but definitely doable.
Dr. Shabek is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and does his best to help everyone succeed. He gives students all the resources they need to do well. His office hours are also a great resource as he takes the time to walk students through solving questions. If you can take a class with Dr. Shabek, I highly recommend it!
Dr Shabek breaks down complex biochem topics so that they can easily be grasped. Dr Shabek & his TAs reply to emails and Piazza questions quickly, and are extremely organized. Dr Shabek's office hours are incredibly helpful, even if you have no questions and are just listening in. Practice exams are a great gage on what the exams will look like.
Really nice professor, who made BIS 102 supper fun and interesting to learn, I've enjoyed every lecture.
Shabek is THE BEST I had in UCD, taking the time to explain everything. He really wants us to understand and succeed. Not easy class but he makes it interesting and clear. shabek words of encouragement before exams boosted my confidence and help me su much. Hands down dr. shabek is amazing teacher and i wish he was teaching more classes here!!!!!!
Genuinely one of the best upper div professors out there. Gave us everything we needed to do well on tests, and as long as you did the practice he gave, you will be more than fine. The entire class is based of 3 midterms and the final, but his tests were 100% fair and had high averages. Very straightforward. Highly recommend!
Dr. Shabek is an incredibly caring and supportive professor who makes sure his class thoroughly understands the concepts and material. Exams are similar to the practice and he is very accessible outside of class. He genuinely wants all of his students to succeed and provides so many resources to make it happen. Need to study but an A is def doable!
Professor Shabek is one of the best lecturers I have had at Davis. He is super clear and made concepts easy to follow. He never tries to pull some sneaky stuff on the tests, and the practice midterms he gives really help prepare you for future tests and concepts. For sure will help for MCAT etc.
Shabek is THE BEST professor ive ever have in my whole entire life i think. he's very passionate and he cares a lot about his students. The second midterm was not it tho TT but he makes me like biochem a LOT more cz usually i hate anything bio related lol but i enjoyed this class a lot. TAKE THIS PROF
Incredibly caring professor who wants you to succeed. Lectures were very easy to follow and recorded and exams were very similar to practice exams. Highly recommend.
Loved him as a Professor! Would love to take him again.
He was a really good lecturer. Doing the practice exams definitely helps and is usually replicative of the midterms. Also going to the TA led review sessions are also very helpful!
Professor Shabek is honestly such an amazing professor. Even though there's a lot of content he explains everything very thoroughly. The course is 100% exams so it can be difficult if you're not a good test taker and you definitely have to study, but the exams are fair and with regular studying it's pretty easy to get a good grade.
He's a really great professor and definitely cares about his students. Doing all of the practice tests and going to lecture will really help!
I loved his class and his teaching style. The class is graded on 3 midterms and a final. The midterms are not too bad as long as you do the practice exams. Plus he offers a little extra credit from iclicker through attendance. Overall he is a great professor!
It is definitely a great class but I wouldn't call it an easy A. I definitely had to put in the time for the class but the content was also taught very well and I Dr. Shabek definitely shows that he cares about his students. I definitely recommend taking him!
Quite literally the best science professor I ever had. Biochem is challenging but he made his exams fair so if you put in the work, you will get good grades. He doesn't blindside you and he gives you everything you need to succeed. I'm not good at chem topics and math topics but I was getting A's on exams because I studied all his material. 10/10
Dr. Shabek was fantastic, and definitely deserves all the high praise he gets. He makes his grading guidelines clear from the start, gives reminders about preparing early for exams with harder concepts, and is overall super understanding and encouraging. He and his TAs all are responsive and helpful outside of class as well.
Dr. Shabek is AMAZING!! Super clear grading criteria, very active on Piazza, and overall very kind and inspirational. I found his exams to be almost exactly like most practice exams with just different numbers. The final was all mcq and super straightforward. As long as you attend lectures and do practice problems you're set.
One of a few professors I had fun going to their lectures. Legit they were not totally boring attend. He will talk about some stuff and you might like think about it for a sec, but if you lose track, he will recap it by writing it down on an Ipad, while using the projector... some professors should take advantage of to help students keep on track.
Not hard for an upper-division course, but everyone is doing well so probably no curve up. Think twice that you do want to compete with lots of students who study hard. The bonus for attending class only counts 0.5%, so you need to get 93%+ in every mid-term and final to get an A.
SUPERB! must give it to him, Dr. Shabek truly stood out and deserves every bit of praise he receives and even more. Incredibly supportive & encouraging. He is so kind and responsive outside of class, making the learning experience very positive. Not an easy class, but working on his practices and attending all lectures set you to ace it.
Dr. Shabek truly cares for his students. He puts time, effort, and care into his class and you can tell he wants everyone to succeed. His lectures were super informative and he goes over difficult concepts multiple times so they are hammered in. You still need to do your homework and practice for exams to succeed though! Effort is rewarded.
Dr. Shabek is truly one of the best professors at UC Davis and I enjoyed coming to all his lectures. I used to be afraid of learning complex topics but his class changed that. He showed how much easier complex topics can be understood by breaking information into smaller, digestible chunks. Also very responsive to all questions students may have.
Dr. Shabek is outstanding! I enjoyed his classes so much. I highly recommend attending all classses and his office hours, as he spends extra time helping with problems and providing valuable coaching advice for succeeding in STEM. The class is challenging, but he equips you with everything you need to succeed.
Great professor, clear in his expectations/grading. Sometimes had mistakes on the exams that would not get corrected for SDC students, but he was forgiving with the points for that. Overall one of the best professors for BIS102.
As a transfer student, I felt very at ease taking BIS 102 with Dr. Shabek. His teaching style is very straightforward and gives detailed explanations. In my experience, he's very understanding of his students and makes the lessons engaging. I truly felt he cared about my success and was supporting the class at every step.
You can see that Dr. Shabek really cares about students learning the material. I found his lectures straightforward, and his office hours very helpful. If you have the opportunity to take BIS 102 with him, do it.
Dr. Shabek is an amazing professor! It's clear he loves teaching his students. Lectures are engaging, difficult material is broken down into easier concepts, and questions are encouraged. Highly recommend attending office hours! Overall, as long as you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot in his class.
Professor Shabek was one of the greatest professors I had in Davis. His class structure was very organized and his expectations were fair. He taught well and his office hours were very helpful. I can't recommend him more, take BIS 102 with him if you can.
Professor Shabek teaches a tough topic but he's attentive to your questions and is easy to talk to. You can tell that he had a lot of passion for his field. His teaching style is very digestable and if you show up to lecture and office hours you'll get everything you need to do well. Highly recommend that you try to get into his class.
One of the best professors I have had for any BIS classes. He is quick to respond to students on Piazza, which is very helpful. His exams are fair if you put in the work like do the practice problems and midterms. I also find him funny and very engaging during lecture. Overall, great professor!
I loved taking BIS102 with Professor Shabek. Biochemistry is very difficult, but he made it very easy to understand and was accessible outside of class for any questions or to go over extra problems (that are very similar to what you will see on the exam). If you try in this class, you will definitely succeed; it is designed to help you do well.
He broke down a hard topic and made it easier to understand. Did bad in my chem classes and thought this class would be the same but the way he explained things made the topics easier to understand. My only con is that grading is based on 3 midterms and the final but class is doable because the tests are similar to practice problems and midterms.
Class was graded based on 3 midterms and the final. Prof. Shabek is amazing, he's super active on Piazza and accessible during office hours. Exams are super straightforward if you do the practice and learn what's on the lecture slides. Tested heavily on amino acids for MT2 and 3, so memorize that in advance.
Dr. Shabek cares about his students' success. His midterms are very fair and even changed the grading scale to drop a midterm even though the averages were 80% or above. His lectures are clear and he's always answering questions on Piazza. Take him if you can!
Shabek is a great professor, his lectures are fun and they are easy to follow. Super solid guy, records lecture. 0.5 pt boost for attendance.
Shabek is an amazing prof. He cares about his students and his class. He makes lots of analogies so it makes everything easier to understand. Textbook and lecture aren't mandatory, but it helps with the lecture comprehension if you don't understand. 10/10 professor TAKE. HIM
cool prof, very caring, research oriented, three midterms (lowest droppped), one final
Really great professor, yes there is a textbook but only if you want to read, and attendance not mandatory but there are clicker questions during class. Overall he's a great professor, helped me a lot when I got out of my comfort zone and asked for help. Got a D on my first midterm, then got an A on my last midterm. He was really helpful!!:)
One of the best profs I've ever had at UC Davis. His expectations are super clear, his lectures are super engaging, and he's SUPER funny. He has great stage presence and a ton of confidence, and is super knowledgeable and willing to help. Go to his office hours!! He made me not just understand but enjoy biochem. Take him, you won't regret it :)
AMAZING. Truly wants everyone to succeed and teaches well.
The BEST upper-division science professor I've had! Makes topics super comprehensible and is an engaging lecturer. Offers bonus points for lecture attendance and extra practice every week. His exams are extremely fair and have had the highest class averages of any BIS class I've taken! Really cares and listens to student feedback.
he is awesome
I made an account just to say how amazing the professor is at teaching. Highly recommended for bis 102. He genuinely cares about his students, which is very rare to find at UC level. I will miss him!!!!
He makes confusing concepts simple to digest, and relates information to the real world! Practice his practice exams and you will do well.
he makes it very clear what will be on the exam. practice is extremely helpful for the exams. he is there for student success!
He has very clear standards. Knows how to make complicated topics clear. I recommend going to his office hours. Gives extra credit points for attending lecture. He shows compassion for his students and wants everyone to do well! Do his practice problems and exams! He will ask similar questions on the actual exam if you practice!
The professor genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is an amazing professor with clear lectures and helpful guides along the way.
Dr. Shabek is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory but you get extra credit if you do! His lectures are clear and makes concepts easier to understand. He is very accessible outside of class and very active on Piazza. Also gives a lot of practice problems. Most importantly, he cares a lot about his students. Definitely take him!
Dr Shabek is a wonderful professor! He works hard to ensure students are grasping difficult concepts. Office hours are helpful and approachable; he makes an effort to get to know his students. Expectations on topics during lecture are clear. He gives helpful practice problems and offers many practice exams. He taught me a lot about biochem!
By far the absolute BEST STEM professor I've ever had. He is incredibly clear in his teaching criteria & equips you with everything you need to succeed in his class! He is overall an amazing, genuine, loving and caring person and truly cares about your success not just in his class, but in life too. If you have the chance to, TAKE HIM!
Amazing researcher and lecturer! The best professor I have ever had during my 3 years of college. Definitely recommend. The lectures are so clear and well-explained. He knows students well and wants them to succeed. TAKE HIM!!!
Dr. Shabek is a very caring professor and goes beyond what is expected of him to help his students succeed. He is a great person and is there for you to ask for help and even personal advice!
A really good professor, his lectures were easy to follow but towards the end, it got a little heavy which he acknowledges. Three midterms, one final, no extra credit besides the I-Clicker credit and its a small boost (0.5). The exams are MC and one free response, very very lecture heavy. GO TO CLASS! He dropped a MT for our class luckily!
Fun professor
Dr. Shabek is the the best professor ever. He genuinely cares about your success and gives you so many resources to do well. His exams are very fair and based off of lectures. He cares to get to know his students personally and always has an inspirational speech before each exam. I'd take his classes for the rest of my college career if I could.
Great professor! Really wants students to succeed and makes content easy to understand.
great at breaking down complex concepts into easily digestible chunks.
There are many professors I took at UC Davis who have earned a 4.5 or higher on RateMyProfessors, but so far, Professor Shabek is the only one who truly deserves it. His teaching has been incredibly valuable to me. However, while his donut example worked, I believe there's still room for improvement.
Dr. Shabek is motivating and seems like he cares about individual student success. He makes himself available and is approachable for questions. Lectures are fun and attendance is key to success in his class. Exams are straightforward if you attend lectures, anything he says is fair game. Lots of MC on exams though, little room for error.
Overall such a great prof!! His exams are exactly like the practice and explained things very clearly
THE BEST! THE BEST!! THE BEST!!!
Great professor, very clear and organized lectures. Gives tons of practice q's/exams and optional Clickrs. Exams were very similar to practice, but study for final early since 50% last lectures and 50% previous material. Memorize the amino acids and practice binding/saturation q's. If you go to lecture, use Piazza, OH, study, you'll likely get a B.
Professor Shabek is the reason I had success in both the biochemistry courses I took (BIS 102 + BIS 103). His lecturing style is easy to understand and interactive. The lectures are organized in tandem to the textbook chapters. With regular studying, success in this class is easily achievable. Exams are fair, and he prepares you well for BIS 103.
Professor Shabek is an incredible professor! He cares about his students success inside and outside of the classroom. The materials he provides make the course much easier to understand and are helpful for the MCAT as well. He knows that a lot of students are pre-health and centers examples on people not just in vitro.
He was genuinely my favorite professor in all of Davis. He was an amazing lecturer and didn't rush through information. He offers extra credit and has practice exams that are representative of the real exams. His course is also a very good course for the mcat as it allowed me to score relatively well.
was an amazing professor! Taught the class very well and provided many support systems. His tests are also never a shock because they are very similar to the practice chests. If you can i would 1000% recommend taking the course with him.
Dr. Shabek is truly one of the most amazing professors at UC Davis. He is so passionate about teaching, and tries to make learning a fun experience. His teaching style is very clear, and his exams were very fair, very similar to the practice exams. I truly believe that I was able to do well on the MCAT because of how structured this class was.
Great lecturer, steadily paced, and funny. The lectures are detailed but important and his tests are very representative of the material he lectures on. I just took notes on the lectures, and rewrote these notes because it helped me learn, and got an A. The practice materials are incredibly helpful so use them!!
Lectures overall were really clear with exams reflective on its material and practice material! Dr. Shabek is a really great professor who genuinely cares about his students and hands down, explained really difficult concepts in a way so much easier to understand.
Shabek is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He provides a lot of practice material that is helpful for his exams. His exams are very fair, and if you study, you will get good grades. He is also very accessible during office hours.
