I'd have to agree that she is a very nice person:) Her sarcasm is funny, and she is encouraging. However, it is NOT easy to get an A...maybe not even a B in this class. It is tough. But other than that, she's a wonderful prof.

worked super hard and spent a lot of time visiting at her office. still got a C, even though she consistently marked my writing skills as good-excellent (and i did all the work) she's nice and helpful though.

If you want a teacher to give you good marks you don't deserve, don't take her class. If you would like the truth about your english skills, take it. Inspires you to improve. Great teacher...yada yada...take this class.

Great teacher though, good readings. Lots of people hate her (apparantly) but my whole class seemed to really like her. I got good marks but I cant help but feel I narrowly avoided some unseen death. Oh well, sux to be these other poeple I guess.

Dr. Currie is a fantastic teacher. Despite what others on this page say it is possible to get an A in her class, I did, but I really had to work my ass off. She is one of the most brilliant teachers I have ever had. She truly cares about her students.

She may be a hard marker, but I appreciate her marking for style, clarity and composition, not just ideas. Her classes actually improve my writing, instead of just exposing me to more books. Take her class to learn; you'll get an A if you write clearly.

Noel may be a hard marker but when you are done with her class, you really feel that you have learned something.Go to her office hours,she will provide all the help you can ask for.Readings are fascinating if you like to explore,not for conservatives.

Noel is a wonderful teacher. Her class was fast paced, interesting, organized and fun. I really learned a lot in her class and she was incredibly helpful. She has a large wealth of knowledge and is very willing to share.

Either B+ or A- on everything I did in this class, very easy marker, seeing as I did everything last minute. Not easiest marker, but easy. You get what you deserve. Also an AWESOME teacher, helpful, clear, just AWESOME.

Dr Currie is a super awesome teacher, she has a high energy and is constantly on the go! She expects you to work hard, know how to write an essay and use your grammar and if you can or are willing to work towards that then then youll be fine.

Her quizzes are very easy, but she requires alot for her essays. I went from a B in grade12 english to a C in her class mainly because of the essays. Other then that, you can tell by just listening to her that she is smart (ubc educated) and she knows what she's talking about.

If you want to learn and improve your writing skills, take her class. If you're looking to have a B+ and learn nothing, take someone else. She is one of the best english teachers at Langara. Just go to her office hours. She's quite approachable even if in class she may seem intimidating. Energetic!

People will prolly find her hard because you just can't bs your way thru to a B on essay topics. She knows if there is no real substance to your ideas. However, she is so open minded that if u actually do the groundwork you can float almost anything by her (as long as you can support it). Great prof

Noel is a very inspirational teacher. She can quote from great works of Eng lit off the top of her head to relate to what we are talking about. She is a very fair marker. Noel actully cares about what you have to say and think. She makes you want to improve.

Dr. Currie's teaching style is a delight. She is enthusiastic and energetic. Her reading list includes at least one title, if not more, to engage most people, and other titles present the discovery or challenge of an unread author. Dr. Currie is clear and specific about what she expects - what more could an enquiring student want? A AAA class.

Maitre Noel is a REAl magician.Brilliant mind ,energetic,she is approachable and CARING towards students -rare combination in a professor of such high level.Her knowledge is in depth and the class is delightful and inspiring .She WILL teach you to write clearly and concisely and will improve your ability.Hard marker but you will earn your mark. Noel is a pretty good teacher. Her reading list is interesting and the in depth review of them is also interesting. She is a very tough marker and you really have to work hard in her class, but her teaching style makes you want to work hard. Her enthusiasm is greatly appreciated in an 830 class! She is also always available for questions and help.

An interesting person, lively, and caring…but she is a very critical marker. Essays that warrant an ‘A’ or ‘B’, receive a ‘C-‘!!! She delivers your failing paper with a smile on her face, like its nothing! Having a ‘5’ on the LPI is not enough to remotely impress her, I recommend a ‘6’ if you want to do well in her 1128 class.

i think she's very good at getting you to the next level. that's what teachers should do after all. despite the fact that she talks a lot and marks hard, those things are actually useful. why would u go for someone who will ace you yet u learn nothing. so ur next teacher will give u an f. if u got a teacher like that, it's worthless. but shes good.

Noel is very nice and helpful instructor. I loved her class. She is the reason i'm taking Eng 1130 this semester =) She can be tough, but that's how you get better and improve along the way. Take her class if you want to have a fun english class full of great, positive energy!

First time back in post secondary in five years and I knew that it would all hinge on my english teacher to inspire me. And that she did. excellent teacher, positive energy. She spells it out for you people you just have to know how to listen!

I've taken four classes from Noel. She is a very challenging teacher. If you are a science student, an ESL student or another type of student that doesn't care about english- do not take her class. If you are interested in english you should do yourself a favor and take the class. It's not gonna be easy, but you'll be much smarter when its over

I 've took two courses with Noel ,also I do have lots of experience in studying.Listen to a mature word of advice : do NOT take her if you need a high grade average .She is a brilliant english prof BUT very hard marker. She excpects university graduate level from average students.Unrealistic but beautiful person.Not recommended fnon English majors.

A very nice teacher, knows her stuff very well and teaches in a very organized manner. Only downside is that she goes through material sometimes a little too fast and is also a very tough marker. Although thats how I feel, I felt the mark I received was very fair.

Fair, marking may be a bit tough but what do you expect from an English teacher really? Do you work and be clear and youll do okay, not as scary as comments make out to be

Very helpful and really wanted us to do well on papers/exams. Appreciated her marking style as it improved my writing. Interesting and good presentation style. A bit hard in the marking but the grading is fair and deserved.

Noel is a great teacher. I wasn't at all interested in the material prior to taking this course but I got so into it! The class discussions were really humorous and engaging- I would take her again in a second. She's smart, funny and insightful- just make sure to go to class and you'll do fine. Exams were right out of the class discussions.

If you are lazy, arrogant and want to get the highest grade with doing the least amount of work possible, do not take a class with Noel. Noel is a hard-working teacher, inspiring, super organized and loves to teach! She is a hard marker and will challenge you- I am a better student because of it! I would highly recommend her for any student!

This isn't a class for slackers. A great teacher who makes you work your butt off for a good grade tho it's possible.

I took English 1110, and she really sweet. I love her teaching style. She brings life into class everyday. To pass the course, she wanted us to be there everyday, and do our homework. I would love to take her class again in the future.

Noel, while an extremely tough marker, is a wonderful lecturer and you will leave her class EQUIPPED. She is a tough marker because she desperately wants to see her students succeed in college, albeit she is pretty excessive in some ways. I left her class rather feeling rather frustrated, but looking back I learned a lot and she's pretty awesome.

this is my second time taking this class to get a higher grade. Noel teaches you to be a better writer while other teachers focus more on the discussions of the readings. I worked hard in her class and it paid off! Come to class, ask questions, follow her guidelines and you will be fine.

Noel is a nice person who can help you with improving your English. However, she is not going to be easy on you. She is a tough marker and if you want to succeed in her class, show her you are there to succeed. That's why is worth taking her class. Be aware in 1121 there are 2 in-class essays and a final home paper.

Even though shes a tough grader, she prob hands down one of the best english profs. She cares so much about her students, she wants them to improve and succeed in english. WOULD DEF TAKE AGAIN; HANDS DOWN AMAZING

SUPER nice and fantastic lectures. She makes a point of remembering every student's name and is really approachable overall. Definitely a tough grader, but she doesn't mark you down for no reason and you can tell she cares about making her students better writers. Would definitely take again :)

She is a tough grader but she gives her students the opportunity to succeed in her class. Don't use your phone in class and you should be good. Do the daily readings so you know whats happening during class time.

Dr. Currie is a very nice, caring prof. There are lots of readings that needs to be done in the first month. If I have any critique for the prof, I wish she was more clear of what she expects from assignments and gives us more practice for essays in class. There are few assignments so it is hard to make up if you did poorly on one.

Noel Currie is so inspirational and respected. She goes above and beyond in helping her students achieve high standards. English 1121 is really useful for students trying to take english 1127. Dr. Currie lives up to PhD criteria. She makes understanding the novels and poetry unit feel like a breeze. Her novels choices in english 1130 are great choices; I couldn't put down the book, I kept reading. Also the film unit was so interesting, she knows how to teach film terms. Would definitely take another class with Dr. Currie.

Noel is so inspirational; each and everyone of her classes shows she is passionate towards her job. Her enthusiasm in her lectures make them interesting to sit in. Never missed a class because she has role model qualities. Even though she marks hard at times, her feedback is quite useful. Visit her in hours and ask questions; she likes that.

Noel is a very caring prof. She was super understanding when I needed an extension due to personal issues. 2223 is a second year English course and has some tough readings especially at the start, but stick with it, participate, and it gets easier. She said she wasn't used to the online format and but you could tell she's trying to improve.

Noel is a tough marker but provides helpful and detailed feedback on assignments and the midterm re: strengths and areas in need of improvement. As such, I would strongly recommend Noel as an instructor to anyone who wants to improve as a writer, but if you also have an interest in (earlier) English literature and poetry.

She is a great professor. Despite this course being online, Noel did a great job organizing her lectures and formatting layouts in Brightspace. But beware - she is a hard marker and probably one of the hardest teachers I've ever encountered, especially for a first year course. You will learn lots but don't expect an amazing grade.

Absolutely LOVE class with Noel. Lectures are a wonderful mix of deep discussion of the text from both the professor and the class, and Noel is a joy to listen to. Just amazing, I would take class with her again in a heartbeat. (and she made me like poetry, which I thought was impossible)
