Pretty hard class but has great office hours and will help you out. Can't use calculators on quizzes but they aren't very hard and the tests are ok if you study for them.

He is a funny guy. Willing to help with good office hours. Fair tests. Occasionally grades homework. Quizzes will keep you on the right track. Loves to write every word he says on the board which is comical. Good teacher overall!!!
He's an excellent teacher who knows the best way of going about teaching. Very funny and entertaining as well. Overall, I would definitely give him an A!
"VERRRRRY INTERESTING" fellow. Not everyday do you get a calc teacher who rides a scooter to work and tells you stories about peeing his pants next to Kathy whats-her-name in third grade...overall a great teacher, I actually look forward to calc
oh boy Heitmann has it comin to him...always gets ya with those stupid points off all the time...never lets ya have the satisfaction of a perfect homework or quiz and always picks on you to make himself feel better! ha great guy though good class
He's Funny and really cool. Will help you out right away. Gotta think in his class, but it makes sense. maybe he could impress Kathy with Stella
The best math class I've ever had. He rides a scooter! Enough said.
He's a great guy and a good teacher.
Good teacher, sometimes hard to follow, always willing to help outside of class
He is an awesome professor. He knows how to teach. Unlike some of the math professors at Millersville. I am horrible in math and I have an A in the class. He is funny and makes class fun.
His overly slap happy approach makes him entertaining, but he doesnt explain his material enough in class, if you want to learn anything, go to the review sessions.
BEST college calc teacher ever! He was always willing to help at anytime during the day even if it wasn't during his office hours. I wish I had him for calc 2!
Hands down the BEST math prof at MU (Im a math major). ALWAYS willing to help, is a fair grader & the quizzes are easy points. Just do the homework & youll be fine. ODE isnt the easiest thing, but he makes it seem like it is. TAKE HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!
Dr. H is the funniest teacher EVER. He actually makes math fun for a change.
Just pay attention on fridays before the weekly quiz, and you should do fine. Test's can be semi difficult, but there are pleanty of other grades to help you out. He's really funny and the first math prof in my life to make the math world make sense
I suck at math, but this guy is very clear in his lessons. Do the homework and you'll be fine for the quizzes. He always answers questions and actually makes math halfway enjoyable with his humor. Take him if you get the chance.
He is great. The class is a lot of fun and he makes it interesting. He is one hot math prof rock star!. I like calc. I too wish i had him for calc 2!
The first day he came in pretending to be foriegn, but couldn't hold the accent. Anyway I this was my 3rd time in this course and it finally made sense. Go to his office hours and do the homework, and show up. You'll do well if you put in the effort.
He explains everything clearly. His jokes brighten the mood and he is always willing to help. Tests are fair game. HW is beneficial. Quizzes are easy. Overall, he turns a class that can be difficult into one that you may actually like.
a wonderful person, great teaching - very positive and encouraging
Truly, i can say that Dr. H is the best math professor/teacher i have ever had. Also very very helpful, and will give you a good advice even if it is not about math. If he is teaching the course that you are taking do everything in your power to have him
heitmann is the hottest damn teacher on campus but math still sucks. :)

Absolutely wonderful guy- teaching is superb. REally gives it his all to help spread enthusiasm for math. Take if at all possible over all the others.
Real nice guy, explains thing well and will help during office hours - just stop by and ask. Tests are hard. But then again, Calc. 2 is Hard...excellent sense od humor (hey, it helps in a math course).
He is a great teacher! If you need extra help he will find the time to help you no matter what. If you take good notes and do the homework you can pass no problem. The tests are a little hard. Def would have him again!
ODE is a tough course. Have to study, have to keep up. Demanding teacher and expects greatness which honestly is a good thing. very helpful if you ask for it. Wants you to do well. second time having him and I'm looking forward to taking a class with him again soon. Weekly quizes. Recommended
Great guy, I worked my butt off in this class, but did not do well. Assignments all complete, but this did not help. I can't give an honest remark. The book could have been better. The book sucks. Very bad book.
IF you study, you will do well, if you slack but do homework, you will get a C, if you do nothing, you fail. Simple as that. Funny guy. Good times in class, totally different outside of class. Hope you like Pittsburgh Sports, and little red mopeds...
nice guy, very willing to explain anything you dont understand. i did all the homewrk and studied but his tests are very very hard. plan on always getting the last question wrong, he makes sure you dont know how 2 do it.
Very sexy man. Great guy too. He is really funny and is brilliant to boot. Too bad he is married. Well anyway the last question on his tests are pretty much impossible unless you are math genious man/woman. Actually even if you are a genius you'll probably still get it wrong. But he means well and really loves math. And his scooter too. Recommended
I gave you a pepper and it is well deserved! Your wife is very lucky! oh yea...keep up the good work in teaching math!
great teacher. actually makes math sorta fun. sexy in a comfortable with himself math nerd way
Good guy who loves math, take him if you get a chance, good prof.
tests are short, but tough. easy quizes and hw help keep your grade up alot. Always do the review for the tests, and ask questions on review days. Faster pace class then i was used to in HS-but if you go to class, pay attention and do your hw it is no problem. Just make sure learn/memorize everything he tells you to.
Best Calc teacher at this school, i had 2 other teachers for calc and they all sucked hes definetly the one to take even though he is a steelers fan
Very nice and extremely helpful. Do the work and you will do well. Wish I could have taken more classes with him. Deserves a pepper.
tough course, but a great prof. for it. Loves his job and will help anybody who asks for it. Wants you to do well. Take him.
He is one of those rare teachers that you just want to chill with outside of class.
He really loves his job. It was his first semester teaching 100 and I really liked having him as a professor. Do the work and you'll do fine. He's hilarious, and has got some of the funniest stories that he can find a way to relate to math...definitely take him!
One of the best Prof's at M-ville. You will have a great semester if you take him!!! He's the only Prof you will ever want to chill with out of school!
Amazing Math Prof. Prolly the best at MU. More than willing to help you in any way he can, very knowledgable and he obviously enjoys his job! Tough class, but amazing teacher, really gets his point across!!
He was pretty obnoxious, but also a good math teacher.
Only Math class I've had to take at MU and it was a blast. Heitmann is hilarious, and his class is very fair. If you show up, take notes, and take the quizzes, you can do well in the class. He is also very easy to talk to and often accessible outside of class. I would highly recommend, especially if you need the class as a Gen Ed.
Heitmann is one of the better professors i had so far. He is quite possibly insane, every day of class is something completely new. he generally understands that we're not all uber math geniouses.. yet.. and simpflies things into terms easy to understand. DEF take him if get the chance!
This prof is the best!! I was kinda dreading calculus but it's been great! Very helpful in office hours, cuts to chase in teaching difficult concepts rather than spending all his lecture time on proofs...Nitpicky grader, but, hey, it makes you really pay attention to the details. Wish I could have him for some more classes.
He doesn't stay on topic very well but he is GREAT! Even if you aren't good at math like me, he can help you understand it all. Plus if you ask, he will go over anything untill he is sure you understand it.
I love professor Heitmann!! He is one of the best teachers i have ever had. He goes over any questions you have, the quizes are that bad, and you can even get an A on his test, IF you study and actually do the homework. TAKE HIM!!!
No heart. Why be a teacher if you don't care whether or not your students learn or understand?

Dr. Heitmann is one of my favorite teachers at Millersville. Has a GREAT sense of humor--like no other! I felt like laughing my butt off, but people just don't seem that amused with being in a math class. Don't rely just on text book--MUST go to class. Always takes time to help where it's needed. I pray for another class to take with him.
Amazingly cool guy. Great sense of humor, and despite what he says, I think he does care how his students are doing. Puts math in a very easy to understand language...definetly take him if you have the chance...
Dr. Heitmann is a really cool and funny guy. He's a little hard only because you're not allowed to use a calculator, but at the same time...your math skills improve because you can't. He really cares about his students and is available to help. I would highly recommend taking his classes.
LOVE Dr. Heitmann! The class is challenging but he makes it fun and interesting. Great sense of humor, too. Homework is collected (you get credit for attempting every problem) and weekly quizzes help your grade if you know your stuff. I wish I had more classes with him.
May be cool for 100-levels, but not for 300+. Constantly makes mistakes in notes, favorite phrase when he's stuck is "it can be shown..." Spend all class copying his scribbly notes with no time to process or ask questions. Pretty forgiving for short comings, but expects more out of students than what seems he can do. Doesn't understand prereqs.
Very very picky grader. He is definately a tough teacher. Nobody had an "A" going into the final. He is very helpful, his notes are barely legible, and there is homework and quizzes every week to keep you on top of things. Overall, I liked the course and it sharpens alot of your math skills you forgot about (no calculators on tests).Funny too!
I've had heitmann for calc 2 and calc 3 and he was a very difficult but enjoyable prof. His tests were typically mildly difficult with usually one curveball thrown in somewhere. Only one person had an A going into the final exam in calc 2, so expect to WORK HARD for a grade in his class. HW and quizzes help boost your grade a bit
Dr. Heitmann is a tough guy, but always willing to help. Work smart, or you'll work incredibly hard. If you have any questions though, raise your hand, or head into his office hours. Get used to the sarcasm, it comes frequently.
This guy is awesome! Very funny. He makes math enjoyable, something I never thought possible. If you pay attention in class, you will understand everything he says. Just study hard and it will be an enjoyable semester.
A very unique guy. Blends teaching and being social perfectly so he keeps your attention and interest. Helps students work through problems, even if he doesn't know it himself! I am giving him a pity pepper, as he had requested in class this semester, being that he is only getting older :) But seriously, he's a great guy and an amazing prof.
You have to think he is funny if you are 5 years old.We are in college and he treats people like kids. I didn't mind him being tough but he should take his ego home. DO NOT TAKE HIM, YOU WILL REGRET FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!
Calc2 in general is challenging, but it isn't impossible. When I first entered the class, I was scared as sh*t b/c I had calc1 2yrs. ago, but Dr. Heitmann made this class enjoyable for me & I actually understood what I was doing b/c I wasn't calculator dependent. I finished the class w/ a B, but I feel that i could have gotten an A if i "did" my hw
Has a very clear teaching method. He likes anyone who puts forth a real effort in his class. All homework comes from problems in the book. He is extremely approachable when you have a question. Tests can be difficult but doable. He is a hilarious teacher and I will miss his class.
Great teacher. Very clear and has a unique way of making hard concepts understandable. That being said, HIS TESTS SUCK! They are much harder than what is practiced in class and are intentionally designed to trip you up. He would be the perfect math Professor if he would just eased up on the obnoxious tests a little.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Explains things thoroughly and is very willing to help anyone outside of class that demonstrates willingness to put forth effort. I will go out of my way to take him again!
Best teacher I've had yet. He will teach you the material so that you can do any problem yourself not just cookie cutter examples.
great professor. tough class, but fair with grading. gives a lot of homework and quizzes so be prepared. if you put effort into his class he is more willing to help you. go to his office hours and talk to him after class. he is a little goofy, but you get used to the lame jokes. haha. i suggest you take his classes. hes great!
Have taken Dr. Heitmann for both 160 and 161, and have signed up for Calc 2 with him. Hilarious professor, and extremely helpful. Weekly quizzes help, and exams, while tough, are fair. Very approachable with questions, and wants to see you do well. Pay attention, take notes, do the homework, and if you have a question, ASK, and you'll do fine.
Mr. Heitmann made the class interesting, enjoyable and entertaining. He is very funny but clear on explaining everything. If you put the effort in you will see the results with him. He has helped me above and beyond to achieve the grade that I wanted. Makes himself very available for office hours and extra help. You will not regret taking his class
Well you gotta love Heitmann. He is very nice and funny, and definitely very helpful. It is true that your grade reflects your effort. My only complaint is that he is extremely nit-picky when grading. For those of us only taking it for a gen ed, this really hurt our grades. But overall I enjoyed him and his style of teaching.
Wow! Amazing. Haven't had a math course in a long time. Took this course during the Summer. Incredibly informative, and wants to see everyone do well. Explains everything to make sure you understand. I want to be a teacher, and I will model how I teach after him. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Heitmann is the man! Great professor and an overall nice guy. he makes a lot of jokes but is an excellent teacher and if you need more help he is always there
It is Calc 2 so there really is no easy way out. Make sure you do well on the first half of the course because the second half gets harder. Otherwise, he is pretty good.
Extremely difficult professor. The problem was not his teaching style--it was his tests. He made the process perfectly clear in his notes. The tests were impossible, and he expected us to do things that were not gone over in class (such as understand concavity when we just began derivatives). Willing to help, but the tests were still terrible.
There is a reason why his ratings are so high. He goes in and removes all the negative ratings. I suggest avoiding--he will help you, and then make it harder for spite, so the "help" he gave you is useless.
Take this class during the Summer. If you read his notes, do the homework, and ask questions when you're confused, you will do well. Make no mistake, this class is not easy, I had to work very hard to get an A, but I did learn so much along the way. The professor is very helpful and is always open to assist during office hours.
Dr. Heitmann is an extremely difficult professor and one of the very best! He's extremely helpful and will loan you all of his free time on campus if you need it. (AND YOU WILL NEED IT!! ) Great guy, funny, sarcastic, makes you laugh all through class, and then hits you hard with a difficult test! Don't be dumb, do your homework and you will pass!
Helpful, gives alot of example problems. He will not go to the next chapter untill you understand it.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE PROFESSOR! This course is hard as heck, the tests are extremely difficult, and if you don't come to class you will definitely not pass. Aside from that you couldn't ask for a better and more patient professor. Office hours are packed with people and he will give every one of you every second of his free time.
His class is hard because he tests on concepts. If you're worried about a grade, maybe don't take him. But if you may ever need this course in the future for other courses/the real world, take it with him. Also, if you get him on the right topic, he will spend the whole class telling stories. He's a goofy guy, and he's very helpful in office hours.
Awesome professor. The class was tough, but ODE is a higher level course, so not unexpected. He will call on you in class, and you will not be ready to answer. Tests are tough, but quizzes are easier. He gets very frustrated if you don't remember things from previous math courses, so study up before you take him.
Dr. Heitmann's teaching process is very thorough and clear and he is good at explaining problems. However, he is a VERY harsh grader and expects a lot. His tests are very difficult and he assigns a lot of homework, but if you study hard and put and put a lot of effort into the class, you will most likely do well. If not, lord have mercy on your GPA
Dr. Heitmann is a great professor and he has really prepared me for the next math class I will take. You do have to work hard and study, but he makes the class enjoyable. I would recommend this class.
Makes you EARN your grade, but the best math teacher I've ever had. Has great stories and is very relatable.
By far the best professor I have had at Millersville hands down. He really cares about how you do in his class, if you don't understand things he is more than willing to help you out in his office hours. If you have the chance to take a class with him I would highly recommend doing so.
Dr. Heitmann is probably one of my favorite professors! He explains everything so well, & tells stories throughout class to keep it entertaining. His notes are extremely easy to follow and are exactly what you need to help you on your homework/tests. Quizzes are easy but tests require you to know more than just the basics. I'd take his class again!
He is a great professor and he keeps the class interesting. He will go over anything you ask until you understand it. He does give out homework every class but you have a whole week to do it and the answers are given. He lets you drop an extra quiz if you go to a cultural event which is a nice change from having to write a paper for extra credit.
A gifted mathematician and teacher, but it is for his wisdom that I will take him again. When he conveys the importance of something, it is often unrelated to math or academia at all but instead to culture and connection. He is transparently sarcastic which makes him comfortably hilarious. He offers extra lectures before exams. A true gem.
Good guy, not a great professor. If youre a fresh. or soph. might be ok. 300 level, yet felt like high school. He forces students to participate in lecture and attend classes, yet all notes are online. Tests can be difficult. Each test has one problem he knows everyone will probably get wrong. No curve. Weekly quizzes. HW graded on completion.
If you take his class you have to be prepared not to due well. You might understand his notes and quizzes but his tests are nothing compared to them. He assumes you should know everything regarding math and calls on people randomly. Overall stay away from taking a class with him at all costs. Ive never put forth so much effort to do poorly.
By far the worst professor I have ever encountered. Always mistakes on the notes and he would say he would upload answers to study guides and other hand outs but would never actually upload them to D2L. He divided the class up after an exam (so much for anonymity) and told those who did poorly that they should withdraw now and accept a mediocre job
He doesnt understand that students learn in different ways. 95% of the homework given is things we never reviewed in class and only goes over like 4 of them. Some students need the actual correct answers to each homework problem to study for tests and quizzes. Also tried to be funny but just isnt. Terrible professor.
Dr. Heitmann is the best math teacher I have ever had. He cares about the success of his students and is very accessible outside of class. I took his class during the summer so the class was 2hrs and 15min every day, but he made it feel so short and very enjoyable. He is also extremely funny!!! Definitely take this professor!!!!!!!!!!
Look he seems like a nice guy and all but his teaching is too fast for slower people. He does not stop for no one and will embarrass you if you answer a question wrong. He overloads you with work the first day of class and expects you to remember everything perfectly from prior maths and does not stop to explain.
If going into his Calculus 1 class, please note that he doesn't let you use calculators on tests. You must be an expert at trig, day 1. Memorize the unit circle (he only goes by radians). Derivatives become fun! The tests do not! The study guide is nothing like the test. Go to his office hours, they 100% help. Funny person. Fast-paced environment.
Amazing in the classroom, once we had to move online he did everything in his power to ensure that the way the material was delievered was as similar inperson class as possible. Come in with a strong foundation in rudiment mathematics becasue calculators aren't always allowed. Go to office hours always happy to help if you're confused. Amazing man.
Im not a numbers person but I really like stats and this professor always made the course entertaining while helping me learn and retain the information. If given the chance take him he is very helpful and makes the class a great experience.
The best professor you could ask for! He truly cares for his students and really wants them to succeed. I had him for Calc 1 during COVID. He went out of his way to help people out when we switched to online. His lectures are amazing! Super easy to understand as well as take notes. He is a very fair grader. I'm taking him for Calc 2. I can't wait!
Definitely a difficult class, there are quizzes every week and three large exams. In order to pass this class you need to do all of the homework, and a pro tip is to go to office hours!! He is really helpful if you don't understand something and appreciates it when you get his help. If you study and do your work you'll be okay!
I took his class over the winter, and I'm glad I did. He's a super nice guy, very laid back. Always cracks jokes during class. I went to him for help during his office hours, and he is very helpful. I asked specific HW questions, and he explained them thoroughly. Great professor. Would take another class with him.
Really entertaining guy he tries his hardest to have a good time with the class. The material was not too hard, but you definitely will want to attend lectures. Homework and quizzes were submitted on Pearson, but Im not sure if it is normally like that or just because of covid. Sometimes disorganized but overall a good professor.
Somewhat challenging class becouse I am not goad at math but amazing teacher willing to help and work with you.
1. No extra credit 2. Homework is graded on accuracy not completion(there is no way to show your work and get partial credit so if you do not understand the material you just get a bad grade) 3. The material in this class is NOT math . DO NOT be fooled and take this course because its at the 100 level. Most people have failed this class
I am not good at math so this class was very difficult to me but Heitman is an amazing teacher that is very entertaining.
Tough math but he teaches it well. Did a lot better than I expected. Show up and do homework sometimes.
I took him for both Math 101 and math 130, I genuinely dont think I could have passed both of these classes without going to his office hours and talking to him, he really is a nice guy and very willing to listen. I do wish he dropped more than just the lowest quiz grade though, homework is based on completion which is good, and prepare for quizzes
The class did not make any sense since this was the first time it was taught. However, Dr. Heitmann made it fun and did his best to teach a subject that should not be taught because its impractical and nonsensical.
Dr. Heitmann is a relatable and funny guy, but wastes class time reading poetry, watching music videos, talking about his kids, and talking about things that had nothing to do with the class for extended periods of time. I usually wouldn't mind this if he didn't put material he didn't go over adequately on exams.
I think I would have enjoyed his class more if the homework more directly lined up with what he was teaching. There would be topics we didn't discuss in online homework assignments. Despite that, he read poems at the beginning of every class and kind of had an existential crisis in one of our first classes. He calls on ppl randomly for answers too.
I would like to start off by saying that Dr. Heitmann is a very nice guy. He is funny and enjoys reading poetry to the class. He also wastes a majority of class time going on long unrelated tangents. This got so bad last semester than he did not even finish teaching us the material and half of my class failed. By all means avoid him as a professor.
Dr.Heitmann's class was something I did not stress over this semester. Homework was graded for completion, quizzes and tests were not hard if you knew the content. Very relaxed prof and would take another one of his classes.
He is really funny and kind, but unless you are really good at math, you will struggle. There are so many notes and it is hard to keep up. He is probably awesome in lower level classes, but with most math professors here, none of them actually teach math how you are supposed to. Its hard to learn hard upper level math based on hours of lecture.
Really funny teacher, very passionate. Cares about the students. Definitely study for the tests and quizzes. Homework is pretty tricky sometimes. Go to his office hours, truly helps.
Dr. Heitmann is personable and kind, however his lectures were unfocused and lacking in actual instruction. Dr. Heitmann rarely showed relevant examples that would be representative of his exams, nor would he often show complete work in his examples. I feel as if I lost intelligence from this class.
Currently taking this class this winter... do not do. Even though there are only 5 or 6 weeks during the winter semester, there is a two week gap for the holidays...and a test AND midterm directly after. The work is some of the most illogical and confusing stuff I have ever seen and I spend the whole day just trying to complete the homework. Don't.
Heitmann is one of my favorite people I've met in general. A fascinating mind, you will learn something every class, math-related or no. His teaching style is very down to earth and he will make sure everyone "gets" an idea before moving on. Occasional pop quizzes but they're small. I cannot say enough good things about him really. Rock on Noel.
Best math professor I've ever had. He makes classes fun and understanding. He gives lots of partial credit on quizzes/tests just for showing work. You can pass the class without getting the correct answers but just showing you know what to do. Overall he is a great professor I'd take again.
Heitmann is an engaging professor who makes the material interesting. While the work can be challenging, he's helpful and willing to ensure students understand the concepts. I found Unstuck ai and the free textbook useful for supplemental study.
Definitely one of my favorite professors that I have had so far. Does not allow calculators for most of the class, but the questions always have numbers that work well without them. Very funny guy and the lectures were usually a highlight in my day. He is nit-picky with his grading, but he gives a lot of partial credit and is overall a fair grader.
I took 311 last summer and it was an epic experience. Dr. Heitmann made the 2.5 hour lectures bearable every last time. Very fun guy to be around and also made topics so simple to understand, even things I had struggled with before he made so easy to understand. His priority was also for us to understand and not just repeat. 10/10 would take again.
He was great. Very funny guy and clearly knows a lot about his content area. He is very particular about hw formatting and does not typically allow calculators (but you don't really need one). If you like to be on your phone during class do NOT take him because he will call you out. All in all I would definitely take him again.
If Heitmann could teach every math class I have to take for my degree, I would be set for life. He cares about his students and wants them to do well. He explains math in a way that makes sense immediately, and this is coming from someone who has had to retake multiple math classes in the past. The first math class I'll pass the first time taken.
Benign and obliging, he aideth those who struggle with numbers. A witty jester, his quaint humor doth uplift the course. Yet his bane lieth in odd homework: printed sheets of nearly a hundred vexing queries, graded solely for completion, and the sole mimic of a study guide. Heed mine counsel—I earned a C- by neglecting them.
He wants you to learn but also succeed. He teaches in a fun and engaging manner. Goes above an dbeyond outside of class to provide assistance.
Lots of homework, sometimes he doesn't even know how to solve them. Throws lots of oddly specific topics on the exam only “A students” will get. He's a nice guy, but this class…not good. No calculator or formula sheet on exams either. Unless you're really good at math, don't even think about taking this with Heitmann or even at Millersville.
Dr. Heitmann is a great guy overall and lightens the mood in class, however he is a harsh professor. He assigns lots of homework, his exams and quizzes are very difficult, with no calculator or formula sheet, and is very picky when it comes to accommodations set by The Office of Learning Services. I would take this class elsewhere if possible.
A really good professor! The only downside is that we can't use a calculator, so make sure you know your times tables! The homework is a bit much some times and it's only 3 points, but it's good practice! The quizzes are normally 3-4 problems. Overall the course is really easy. This course was a refresher for me since I took algebra in high school.
