boring but an easy grader
VERY boring but VERY lenient grader. I never went to class, failed all the tests but got a B on the final so she gave me a B+ in the class.
Very easy...
She is a horrible teacher, does not explain anything. You end up teaching it to yourself. She does give a review before the tests which are very similar to the actual questions on the test.
EASY TESTS, she goes over most of the stuff during her test prep, that will be on the test....usually just changes numbers around, from what you see on the review...Awesome lady...I got an A and i am bad in math..
She is not a good professor. SHe doesn't teach anything and doesn't like when people ask her questions and always tells u to read the book when it doesn't explain anything. SHe also doesn't explain anything and u have to teach urself. It's a waste of mone
For those of you that have failed calculus, have no fear! This professor is the best! I failed the class spring '04 then took it over with this professor in the summer and I got an A-! I'm not even good at math! Take her! Take her!
I don't know why she is called as "easy".I did really good in both her exams but still she gave me a B.Can't understand why she did this?
very very very good. She is an extremely good grader in that she gives alot of partiall credit.
Very easy, and very helpful, I highly recomend her for precal
Very easy professor...I highly recommend her. All you gotta do to get an A is do her partice tests until you memorize how to do them.
I have no idea what she is doing! She doesnt teach us anything, she thinks that 2.5 is too easy for her. some people are not good in math.
i took her in the summer and she was the easiest
Good Professor. You will do well as long as you do her homework. SHe gives partial credit
horrible professor. cant explain math if her life depended on it. tells u to read the book when doesnt explain anything. she only knows math for herself.
This professor is very clear in her demands as well her explanations of the subject. Very humane! A+ rated by:MihailoLomonosov
She is not very interested in students progress, she tells you to go for tutoring if you don't understand. On the other hand,if you do your homework you will be able to make a decent grade on the tests. Subject itself is basically a review of what you learned in high school.
she is so extremely easy!!! if you can...TAKE HER!!! attendance doesnt matter and u leave class after 10 minutes usually. easy class to get out of the way!!!
excellent teacher, must take her class
the worst i have ever had she did not teach the class she just sat there reading and taking her phone calls. if you are bad at math please...... do not take her. if you are good go right ahead.
Very easy class! Her lectures are sometimes a bit confusing and she does little to help you understand it, doesn't like going over old material, only solves the first half of problems, etc, etc. But her tests are damn easy and she does a real number on the partial credit! GREAT FOR CIS MAJORS WHO WANT TO GET AN EASY A, BUT DONT NEED TO TAKE CAL 3
An easy A for a math class. She doesn't like to teach a lot of the hard stuff and she gives a lot of partial credit on her tests. She's a little scary in the beginning, but don't get scared off. Just do the home work, and you'll be fine.
she can be a bit hard to understand but she gives a lot of partial credit so your bound to do ok
She is wonderfull about partial credit. She gives entire classes for review in which you can ask anything you want. She will even overllok bad quiz grades if you score well on the final. She skips anything that she does not think you will ever use again. Much better at explaining than some other math professors. I highly reccommend her.
Core 5.2 with Prof. Halpern was relatively easy, but do not expect to gain anything from this course. Professor Haplern makes no effort to teach during the entire semester and simply assigns students homework from the textbook without checking it. Her grading policies are arbitrary, and after her lectures, you will leave the class feeling as though
Easy, easy, easy!!! take her if you can!
The idiots that are complaining probably never came or are just lazy. this class is damn easy. i got an A- with out barely any effort and i hate math. Its a breeze during the summer take it then. plus the exams are ridulously easy and her review is the test. Homeworks sre easy along with 2 quizzes and an easy final. Trust me she wants u to do well.
i suck at math, i failed it it high school, yet got a B plus in her class. the class is easy, but she does not teach well, it is easy b/c she expects very lil. oh and she answers her cell in class, so keep yours on as well. She can be a tad nasty at times, but easy as hell.
NO HOME WORKS!!!!!!!!! easy to pass take her class if you don't like math. you will pass.
You can get through core really easily with her. Just do the 'review' because it's the test. You won't learn much, but who cares? Math is out of the way. Easiest class I ever took. I could have taught it myself. And it's true that she answers her cell phone in class.
She has got to be the easiest professor i've ever had. She expect literally like 5% effort from you. There are NO homeworks. 70% of the classes you're doing problems from the book. She collects these and simply checks if you DO them, not if they're correct. She lectures like every 2 classes. 2 10 ques tests. Take her if you hate math. EASY!
She is the easiest professor in brooklyn college! She gives 3 quizes and a final with a lot of partial credit. The questions are the easiest ones possible. The quiz is made of 8 problems where each question is worth 7 points and she will only take off 4 points if you wright anything. Plus even if you leave everything blank you get a 56.
great prof... I recommend her to everyone.. especially those who arent all that great in math... shes very very understanding... and very sweet...
So, w/out a doubt she's easy and nice but does not know how 2teach. Make sure u know ur stuff before coming to class or prepare to learn on ur own b/c thats what I do. My advice: take it during the summer, 4 months of her would be torture literally. Other than that, she's okay to grab an easy A. Good luck. =O)
I took her in spring 2008. I just treat this class as a literature course and recite and get an A. Not know anything afterward. she cannot teach. I get an A just because I am good at math, not because of her ability. For people who like math, stay away from her. For people who want easy-grader, take her.
Took her during the summer and class was so short, it was great. She wasn't the most interesting person but at least we didn't have to stay for the full class time. Just make sure you have the textbook and you're good to go.
She is a good teacher, and a nice person. I had her for calc 3, which she hadn't taught in years, and so when we got to the more difficult topics, she said "I can't do some of these questions, I don't expect you to do such difficult ones either". Very nice, and a VERY lenient grader. She once gave me 12/20 points, when I only deserved around 4/20.
if you dont care to learn anything, take this professor. i stopped going to class because i found it completely useless. you go in, she does not take attendance, and you do some homework from the book on your own while she sits at her desk. just attend the quiz reviews b/c this is exactly what she asks on the tests.
best advice...take this as your first or last class because eventually you will stop going all together. easy, dull, required.
wow, just wow. never in my life have I seen such stupidity! She cant get any dummer, the only good thing is she doesnt take attendance. other than that, she cant teach at all! i heard this before i took her class but though to myself 'it cant be that bad' well, IT IS!and shes not an easy grader at all,i cant believe she teaches at BC! DONT TAKE HER!
She is OK! She is very lenient and a very fair grader. Teaches our class and always goes over hw questions everyday! Quizzes are easy and only 7 questions. If you do lots of practice, you will ace the quiz. Tells you what is going to be on the final and what each question is about. Explains things to you more than once while teaching the class.
Excellent, Excellent professor! I never thought I'd get an A- in Math yet Halpern proved me wrong! Explains things so simply and makes it really easy to get an A. Will definitely be looking forward to taking her for Calc 2!
She is very sweet, gives reviews and examples before quiz and final. No homework. I'll recommend her to everyone, she is very easy.
great prof. I recommend her to everyone, especially those who aren't all that great in math. she's very very understanding and very sweet
Very nice, explains everything if you don't understand. Exams come from homework. Easy grader, take on summer or winter, because it's too much for long semester. Book is needed.
Take her if you are an intermediate math student. She seems too easy for someone trying to go above and beyond, but too hard for those who aren't very good at math. She is nice, funny, helpful and lenient.
Her teaching style isn't great. She tends to just do lots and lots of problems on the board. She tends to complete some steps in her head which makes learning the material harder. She is, however, a very lenient grader. Her quizzes are 7 or 8 questions, and the final was only 11 problems.
She's terrible. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She may be a nice person but she is a terrible professor. I am bad at math and she made it even worse for me. She's up there in age and I honestly think she should retire because she seemed so miserable when she was teaching.
She is not the best out there, if you can avoid her, do it. There are better professors with much more desires to teach their students.
She is a very nice professor, however her teaching technique is terrible. She is not very helpful and doesn't properly explain math problems when students are confused. She seems very uninterested in the class and I wouldn't recommend anyone to have her as a professor.
Really nice, a little hard to understand but she is willing to stay late and explain
Really really a nice person. Easy exams. Boring, and she makes alot of mistakes. She might be helpfull to some students but if you goodin math dont take. Because you will hate it. Good only for avrage students
she is really sweet but is really dry when she teaches and moves topics very quickly. but allows time for questions . she makes tonz of careless mistakes but math is abt the general not the specific example. her tests are super easy. she tells you what is on it beforehand and makes it easy for everyone. very fair grader
her exams are really easy because she reviews before the exams. Do her homework and you will understand the class, you dont even need to go to class because she doesnt take attendance. she took it once this semester.
Don't pick her unless you're an adequate listener and/or have good attention span. There's barely any help on this course material you can get outside the class, so listening to her/taking notes is essential to your performance!
I decided to rate Dr. Halpern because i heard she had unfavorable comments here. If you need to learn pre Calc there can be no better professor. She is great, fair, generous and passionate. She took the mystery out of Math and she is passionate about her subject. I HIGHLY recommend her. AND...everyday is a good hair day for her.
amazing professor, whatever you don't understand from her is in the book, very lenient grader, easy tests, answers questions, as long as you do the homework she assigns (not required) your chances of an A are pretty high
Prof. Halpern doesn't care at all about what she is teaching or whether the students learn. But it's an easy A because the tests are super easy and she tells you ahead of time what's on them. That may sound good, but I wanted to learn calculus 3. And this is not the first time I had a math prof who didn't care at all at brooklyn college.
Very boring class. Picks very easy topics from the textbook. Not very good at explaining the material. Must pay very close attention in class and study from the textbook in order to pass. Roughly 3 ten question quizzes which are worth 67% of grade and final exam is 33%. I don't recommend taking her unless your willing to study on your own.
excellent super nice professor highly recommend her
She is great, all her tests are based on the notes. study the notes and you are guaranteed to do well. Attendance helps alot.
I took this class from reading the reviews on here hoping it would be an easy A. Her class is easy but to do well you have to sit in the very front or else you won't see what she's writinghear what she's saying. She refuses to write darker speak up. She chooses easy topics, gives the test questions the day before the exam & tons of extra credit .
Professor Halpern is unclear and confusing. She's not a fair grader and has her favorites in class. If you're struggling in class, she'll point it out in front of your peers without hesitation. If you're a quiet mouse in class, she'll pay you no attention, and instead, she'll scrutinize you when you actually have the courage to ask for help.
She explains things well, but makes a lot of careless mistakes. She admits this herself and is lenient about it on tests.
explains things well, not a lot of homework.
3 quizzes one final, if u don't understand the material she will help. only bad thing is don't sit in the back cause u won't hear a thing.
This teacher is really easy, but if you want to learn something then don't take her. It's tough to understand her because she speaks so low, but explains things well on the board. She tends to make mistakes when teacher and students correct her, but she's a nice lady and gives easy tests and also gives a lot of extra credit. The final is easy
She is an average teacher. Overall, she's pretty clear and will devote a lot of time to going over the homework. Does he make it exciting? Not really. Will you learn what you need to learn? Yes, and it's an easy A as well.
Great professor. Tries to make the class as interesting as possible. Gets boring sometimes but it is very easy to get an A if you try.
Ok she's not the best teacher but she is so super sweet and if you honestly don't get something the material is easy enough to look in the textbook and review it that way. she's a really nice lady and if you have questions she's more than happy to help just make sure you speak up.
Not the greatest professor I've ever had, but not the worst. She speaks with a very low voice so you should probably try to sit in the front of the class if you want to learn. Very friendly but it can sometimes be hard to understand what is going on. But you can always just check the textbook.
Great professor and isn't a hard grader. Honestly everyone should take her.
Her teaching style is terrible. If you really what to know math do not take her.
THIS woman is the worst calc Prof ever. Don't even bother with her. Some one on here says that she gives an easy test??? Not!!! Her teaching is null and void. She doesn't teach or ask questions. Stay away from this woman. She doesn't teach, but gives a hard test and at the end there is a departmental exam. Good Luck.
This professor is the easiest for cal 3. She went over homeworks everyday that is not counted but just to refresh the materials. 3 Quizzes or can be said as Exams and a final that is not departmental(given by her). All her exams are not hard. She told you what will be on the exams and went over sample test questions. Easy! Definitely recommended!
All she did was work out problems on the board. This may be good with some profs but this one kept her back turned while mumbling. Other profs give out review sheets, not this one. She gives you a decent grade on the first 2 tests so you hang in there. When its too late to drop, your grades will drop also. she's no good stay away
She is definately not available for any office hours and if you ask her she will make it very inconvenient for you so discourages you from coming to office hours. I'm sure that no student went to her office for the entire semester. She says her office hours are 7am. Her class is 11 am. She won't talk you after the class either and doesn't email.
She is almost senile. She is great at math and such, but she should just stay home with her blackboard and do the problems for her own enjoyment, because thats what she's doing in the classroom and she appears oblivious to the fact that students aren't learning. I'm not referring to the ones who walked in knowing the subject already. She's lousy.
stay away at all cost!!
There are 3 tests and one final; her reviews were very similar to the tests. She cares about all of her students doing well and will explain problems but, she will often get things wrong on the board and is happy for anyone to correct her. She is pretty quiet so sit in the front row. You need pretty good algebra skills to take this class.
grade is solely based on 4 exams. hw is compltely optional. if you know precalc then class is a breeze. she goes over different problems all class. will make a lot of mistakes but just point it out for her. a very nice person and open to questions. easy A if you're good at math and/or work hard
Class is graded based on four tests; She taught the class and gave a review which was similar to the test. After the course was moved online she completely ignored the students and we were forced to teach the entire textbook to ourselves. Tests were easy for Calc 3 but in general extremely difficult. She is sweet but couldn't handle an online class
She can't teach online classes. Basically all she does is read the slides. Doesn't notice if you are there, she doesn't take attendance. You will have to teach yourself.
You have to self teach, I prefer that so I enjoyed it. Her tests where all multiple choice and you submit work after the test. She also gave plenty of extra credit. I only went to one lecture just so I dont get removed from the class and I ended up with a b+. Very fair grader for online class
when I'm in an online class with her, she is just reading the textbook you need to learn on your own.
Openness to comments and questions. Lectures through slides and gives examples in class or by doing previous homework problems. The lectures are a bit boring but informative. 3 quizzes and a final exam are what make your grade. Homework was optional but it is a necessity to complete it to pass this class. Average professor. Know Calc 2 to pass.
A professor that loves giving A's, as long as you do the homework and have a decent understanding of the material you'll be fine. She loves giving partial credit and extra credit. If you try, you'll do well.
Really listened to students, communicative, gave opportunity, allowed several extra credits, uploaded all class notes, lecture notes for each chapter extensively. Was not super strict. Responded to emails and was willing to help through and through.
If your only goal is to pass this class with an A. She's your pick. Otherwise, I would suggest choosing another.
No hw and test is very easy. The questions are identical to the review questions she gave in class.
Only exams are graded but she gives partial credit for almost anything. Won't learn much because she doesn't really teach kinda only does the problem in front of you and expects you to understand but easy to pass. Offers multiple chances for extra credit.
kind of difficult to learn from. her lectures tend to be her listing out a few example problems based on the concept being taught that day, and then her solving them ENTIRELY ON HER OWN. she won't talk about her thought process or methods used. she will ask if everyone follows, but nobody says a thing. only tests are graded, and theyre usually 5Q
Professor Halpern is a very agreeable professor but she does not teach Calculus well. Unfortunately you have to scream in class for her to be able to understand questions and the slides are just the exercises in the textbooks. She has difficulty explaining the concepts visually. Many people dropped the course. Midterm was pretty different from hw
The professor can't teach, so if you are ready to self-teach or already familiar with precalc, then take her class. Hw is optional the class grade comes from 4 exams + the department's final exam. Her exams are exactly like the review sheet. She is an easy grader, and gives a lot of partial credit on the exams.
If you take her get ready to teach yourself most of the material. All she does all class is put up questions on the board that she solves on her own without any explanation. She gives you 4 exams through the whole semester, and the department final which is most of your grade. She does provide review sheets that are exactly like the exam.
Do not take her class. She is very unorganized and often doesn't explain the topic well. All she does is reads of the slides.
Lectures are just her speed-reading the slides. If you haven't taken Calc1 before or don't have any background knowledge of it, just be aware that you will be mostly self-teaching. The slides themselves either overcomplicate it or just don't make much sense. Grade comes from 4 exams (10% each) and one in-person final.
She is tough at the start. She grades you based on 4 exams and 1 final. The ONLY WAY to pass her class is to make sure you show up 1-2 classes before each exam for the practice problems. The practice problems are exactly what's on the exam. You don't even need to read the textbook or the slides. Just study the practice questions and master them.
