Nola was all over the place in her lectures (basically just did examples and she never explained the concepts), and used slides from other professors, so she couldn't even explain them. That being said, if you take the initiative to read the textbook chapters and do a bit of self-learning, her tests were cake. VERY nice lady, however.
Her midterms are easy but she doesn't give enough time to finish them. All she does in class is go over the examples from the book.
Very helpful instructor. She planned time before each midterm to go over questions and concepts required for the midterm. She provided helpful summary sheets of key concepts we needed to know. I would definitely take her class again.
Great instructor. She was very organized. Her exams made us understand not just memorize the concepts. She did a good job of explaining things and making them very practical rather than complicated. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Great prof!!! Would definitely take a class from her again. She is really focused on helping you understand the material and not on memorization. Classes were interesting and in her class she made a special effort to make you feel like a person and not just one student of three hundred. Would definitely recommend!!!! :)
Nola is so organized it really prepares you for the business world. ALOT of quizzes, assignments and reading. There is a lot of opportunity for extra marks in this class. Nola is extremely intelligent and knows what she is doing so listen and learn. Better than the other Bus 100 profs who give you the same amount of work..
Nola was a great prof. Always there to help and replies really quickly to emails. Clear in instructions and what material will be covered on exams. Course has a lot of little quizzes but that cant be changed. Kept everyone interested and always very inviting. Recommended prof.!!!
Nola cares so much about her students success. This course is heavy but thats with every BUS 100 class. The assignments and quizzes cut down on my study time as reading the text is required. Lectures are awesome and she tells you exactly what to expect for midterms and the final. I would definitely recommend her and take another class from her.
Nola was great. She is very understanding of students' concerns and will give you feedback to better prepare in the future. She cares about her students and clearly invests her time to make classes interesting. The 2 quizzes that are due each class are a little unnecessary and time consuming, but are mandatory.
Nola seems like a good professor. However, she should be working as a babysitter considering the class experience so far. She is interested in the topics but has a hard time staying on topic at times, and goes outside of the lecture time.
Hands down the Best Prof I've had yet. Love her. She keeps you engaged and keeps things interesting.
Nice prof, but she is one of the toughest graders ever. Plus she has so many of her quizzes that are due before each class. This class is a full time job, so you have to commit a lot of your time to it to do do good.
One issue in how she calculates your mark. Through out the semester opportunities the she calls bonus marks such as little research things or going to a Hill event(cost money). what she doesn't tell the class is that these events or research marks are not bonus. they count towards your leadership mark, without doing these your final mark drops 8%.
she was a tough grader ever
Nola is amazing, passionate, helpful. Expects a lot-prepare to work hard! Never done so much work for 1 class. Speak up in class. Group projects nearly killed my spirit/grade -she stepped in to solve conflicts. Don't take with a heavy load b/c it requires extra out-of-class time and work. Learned a ton about business & my self. Glad I stuck with it
Very nice lady but tests are hard!
She is somehow helpful but very tough grader and does inappropriate marking. This course requires a lot of time. The most important thing in her class is "guest speakers" so make sure you guys are good note taker.
Nola genuinely wants every student to succeed. She goes out of her way to provide plenty of practice midterms, problems, etc. Attendance is stiff (miss 5 classes and you can't write the final). Goes through plenty of practice questions in class. Awesome prof. Highly recommend taking 288 with her.
Probably one of my favourite profs in the business faculty. Yes her tests are tough but she does everything she can to prepare you for them. She explains content well and makes sure you know what is expected of you. Buy the textbook as some of the content on the midterms is not covered in class.
Nola is a great instructor. She went to great lengths to ensure students understood what was discussed in class. The marking was always done fairly, and midterms/final were well balanced. The course does place considerable emphasis on guest speakers, and Nola was always clear about this. If you go to class and stay engaged, you can do well for sure
Awesome prof. Helpful and understanding. Always available to assist you. Very friendly and approachable. Would take another class from her.
I really enjoyed having Nola this semester. She is very enthusiastic and always there if her students need help. She is very clear about expectations. There's a lot of assignments in this class, but if you put in the effort, it does pay off. I would definitely recommend Nola to anyone taking business courses
She's the worst prof ever. So much reading and writing outside of the class for the smallest amount of marks. Business 100 is overall a difficult class in terms of how many things you have to do. You can study all you want for midterms, but there's no point because you get bad marks anyway.
One of the most caring professors I know. Her exams are challenging but she helps prepare students for exams. She has always made time to meet with me and help me meet my goals in the class.
grade 5 practice exams then CPA level actual exams.
Nola is a good prof and a great person. There is a decent amount of work in Business 100 and Nola doesn't give you a free pass, but she does want you to actually learn the material.
She would often miss class to go do other things which was fine to a point, but she was always absent before midterms and would not help to prepare for the multiple choice section of the exam. Her multiple choice are extremely harder than the other professors.
Nola is a tough prof, but no harder than any of the other BUS 100 profs, the class is largely self-taught from the textbook, so keep up with the reading. Isn't very clear with what will be on tests. She is approachable if you do have questions, but can be very unclear with her answers.
One of the best profs in the business faculty. Truly cares for students and is always open to other viewpoints and learning techniques. Highly recommend. Text is mandatory.
Nola is amazing! She makes you work hard. She gives the students a few options on the way to do things and you have to find what works for you! DO the homework!!!!! don't fall behind. Her tests are time constraint and difficult but if you know your stuff you will be ok.
Fantastic prof. Wants each and every student to succeed. Quite knowledgable about the material, although sometimes she gets lost in her own notes. Seven quizzes (quite easy and not too time consuming), two midterms, and a final. One of the nicest people I've come across in university. Willing to help with any questions students might have.
Nola was a decent prof. Had her for bus100, only read the first two chapter of the textbook and ended with a 90% in the class. Study the slides for the midterm and you should be fine. Reading the textbook would definitely be helpful, but I found that it wasn't necessary. Heard she is better than the other bus100 prods tho so would recommend.
Nola is such a nice prof. She will give you good feedbacks on everything and tells you what to expect on midterms and final. The first midterm was hard for me but the second one was okay and final was okay too. Also, her multiple choice questions can be really tricky. 7 prep, 2 group proj, presentation, 2 midterms, final. Goodluck.
Nola is a great prof! She is very knowledgeable about her material, provides clear expectations of grading criteria and is compassionate towards the other students. This class has a TON of assignments. To get a good grade make sure to participate in class, get an early start on projects and make sure to pick a good team!
I would highly recommend to take have this professor in your course. The only way to pass the business course is to be dedicated to work hard. She will help you if you need help.
Explains good but makes you work hard for the grades. Midterm and final is the only time to score marks. assignments marking is very hard
It was a good class. I would take it again. It was not the hardest.
Nola was a decent prof. E Scan is a grind, but the rest of the class is pretty good.
LOT lot lots of homework and really tough marker. My GP went down because of her. If you miss your homework you fail.
Nola is a great prof. Although, she's annoying like a mom, she wants students to succeed. The course is not hard, but it is very heavy, and majority of it is self taught. Be prepared to read and keep up with the homework.
Nola is quite scattered at times and probably not the best teacher. Though she does want her students to succeed. Most of her work is very ambigious and you will need to ask questions plus you will need to teach yourself the majority of the material. Nola however is probably better then other bus100 options.
Nola truly wants her students to learn the course material. She is well prepared for class and takes her time explaining every concept. The course has online quizzes stressing important concepts. Nola's exams aren't easy, but she gets you well prepared, and she's a fair grader.
Nola is a great prof overall and wants students to learn the material, as you must engage with the questions and not just memorize. She is clear about what to expect and what direction to take for studying on the exams, but they are still tough. Although, if you miss one assignment you fail which is stressful.
Nola is ready to help out when you have questions. Lots of home work and tough grader. She make it sure you pass the subject as long as you work for it
Nola is tough, and her class can be hard. But she is by far the best business 100 prof, like even at my worst grades we still did way better than the other classes and she is actually an organized prof. Hard lady but wouldnt pick anyone else.
I think all the business 100 classes are suppress international student specially to Chi... I fixed a lot of my essay but I got the same mark from my last term. I don't understand if there is difference of the way of thinking or its something else????
Highly recommend Nola for BUS 100, she is an amazing prof. Coming into business can be scary and she makes everyone and everything feels comfortable. The textbook helps a lot with exams. It was an option to do a group presentation so not everyone had to. Goes out of her way to make sure everyone feels welcome and understands the grading criteria.
One of the best classes I've taken! Nola is a GREAT prof because she actually teaches! I learned a lot from her class. Although, you really got to work hard for your mark cause her exams are pretty tough, but she's always there to help if you have questions and always giving hints to what we need to study for an exam. Highly recommend to TAKE HER!!
Nola is very caring. she makes sure no one is left behind. Her lectures are very logical and she makes you use your mind.
Shes very kind but she does like to change the wording and types of questions on the midterm as to what you normally do in class. Can be tough
I always respect Nola. She is nice person and wants to help her students. BUT this class is the hardest class I ever had. I devoted almost all of my time to study my butt off since day 1. A lots of projects that did not help to understand the course. She didn't explain the material very well. The practice assignments did not reflect the exams
Just wrote the 20-page final exam. I attended nearly every class, studied 6 hours every day for 10 days b4 the test & felt confident. Left completely defeated, not enough time to finish. This class was so difficult. Some of the wording on exams is unnecessarily disorienting & different from what is taught & practiced. So many formulas to memorize.
Total waste of time and money. I would not take any classes. Most of the awesome rating comes from 100level. Don't take 300level with her.
She is a very bad teacher. Doe not know how to teach. Made a very simple course material complicated for no reason. Her exams were designed for students to fail. I would have never taken the class but was kind of forced to take it because there was no option. if you have an option please stay away from her. Pathetic teacher!
The worst prof in business after Meghan. Do not fall for her bonus mark gimmick they are not bonus marks they are out of the same 100%, she has not found a justification for. She thinks that she is preparing you for CPA but what she actually doing is convincing you not to pursue it. Have lots of ideas of how she can make student's life miserable.
While the approach to teaching the class could be more straightforward, the class itself is easy enough. Long answer in the exams are the same as what is done in class. Through all the problem sets available it is pretty clear what the exams are going to be like and the *19 page final with 27 multiple choice and 7 questions was nothing bad.
Awful instructor. Assignments are all waste that won't prepare students for Exams.
Nola is the best professor in the business faculty. The course material is dry and can be complex but Nola will do anything to help you succeed in her class. This class requires lots of time and effort but your hard work will pay off.
very unclear distracted teacher, made a simple course hard. Even after passing the class don't know what was expected. Stay away from her.
Stay away from Nola. Gone through too many things that were not necessary for an intro class.
Unclear expectation. Lots of thing to do for the class and not helpful for the term exams and final.
She can't answer anything without looking at her notes. She runs out of words during lecture. I would never take Nola again.
Too much to do for intro class. Acts like a smart, but she's not. Only taught whatever on slides.
Mostly taught from slides. Calculations part ignored and not knowledgeable for 300level class.
I wish faculty of business would check first to see if a prof is ready to teach a 300 level class because Nola doesnt seem ready at all. Nice prof but not a good teacher. She should just stick to teaching 100 and 200 level class.
If you have options, don't take her. Lots of thing she won't do in class and expects student to complete on their own.
Lots of student failed in first and second midterms. I don't recommend Nola for higher level class.
Grades do not reflect the amount of work you put into the class, cases and online assignments. Do not depend on assignments to get ready for term exams.
Worst professor , she Wont even allow to use phone and attendance is mandatory and if u come even one minutes late she wont allow you to attend class
Awesome professor! She is a strict to her rules if you follow her you will definitely receive good grades. Attending class is very important. Do the wiley plus assignments those are very easy and you can understand the material. If you did not understand anything just ask her she will give you full explanation.
Nola is an amazing professor who is tasked with a difficult course. She tries her best to make the class fun and exciting and she usually succeeds. Lots of group work and projects so make sure you know people in the class or are good at making friends. I 100% recommend her for business 100 and I would take her again in the future.
This Professor clearly cares for all her students, she really wants everyone to work hard & put their best effort in. Wiley Plus assign, 2 midterms & a final. She does lots of examples in class & one would assume that is what you will get tested on but she mixes it up for the exams which could be quite difficult & tricky. Study hard & you will pass
Made intro class very heavy. Don't take classes with Nola if you want good grades
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS if you do not have previous accounting knowledge.
Nola seems like she want everyone to be successful but she does not show that in the course material. I have never done so much hw, been so stressed for a midterm/final, spent this much time on a class and felt like I know absolutely nothing about anything In my life. Mental health, motivation, self esteem, will to graduate, all gone. Dont take.
She cares for her students. But she gives a lot of work which is very stressful considering it is an online setting. This class was my heaviest class this semester. Weekly homework that take hours to complete. Zoom + vid lectures. Too much. Overall she is genuinely sweet but be prepared to be overwhelmed. Might take again, maybe if in-person.
Nice lady, will do just fine in her class. Good assignments too. One thing that bothers me is her organization and some of the steps she makes you follow to do simple tasks like Use Proctortrack, or Submit Something. If Nola was your mom and told you to buy lettuce from the store you would go down every aisle before you found the damn lettuce.
Nola's BUS 285 class wasn't that hard and was a lot more clear than BUS 288. I took her both for 285 and 288 and I have never been so happy to be done BUS 288. This class had endless amounts of homework and exams were very tough. Crying aside, Nola is personable and tries very hard for her students to know the subject and is successful. Good choice
I feel obligated to begin this review by telling you to be ready for a heavy workload in Bus 288. Nola is good at teaching difficult subject matter and the weekly assignments help to learn it, but it will consume time and office hours. Nola explains the work in several different ways to help students learn. She does hint at what will be on exams.
Way too much info essentially dumped onto you despite most students having little/no knowledge of accounting. This course has more content than ECON 201 and 202, not to mention a bunch of your grade depends on your lazy groups. Take this course if you want to memorize alot, regurgitate alot, but actually learn very little.
Zero tolerance. You make a mistake, she will deduct points Even she being very organized with the info her way of testing is very severe simple mistakes for her can minimize your whole exam
Generally unhelpful, course was a waste of my time.
Nola was a good professor! Very well organized and I would recommend taking a class with her.
Nola's class is a pretty heavy workload and is very important to give a good effort or you might get lost. However, she is very clear on what she expects us to know and how she wants things done.
If your mother's funeral, your son's birth, or any other crucial event is happening in your life, know that Nola will NOT accomodate you no matter how severe. Typing "perogies" into her attendance sheet matters more to her then actually learning something or even reading the textbook in this course.
Must pass final. Really tough marker. Lots of quizzes in labs. Get ready to memorize a bunch of material and constantly study and still have trouble getting passing marks. Worst prof out there.
It's really sad to see Nola go. Her classes were very tough and frustrating at times, but she made every effort to give you credit for the work you put in. She gave partial marks, would give you a chance to earn bonus marks, etc. Non accounting majors may not have liked how heavy 285 was, but she really was the best.
Best Business Prof I've had. Nola teaches the material in a logical order, helps us practice a lot, and I felt really prepared for exams. Highly recommend!
Most of the challenge in this class comes from the class' poor planning. I swear I can never find what I'm supposed to and when I finally realized I needed to do something its already overdue. That and getting marks based on fruity participation makes this class more simon says then financial literacy.
