This professor is extremely unclear of what she expects and grades extremely hard! Thinks the environment is the most interesting thing in the world.

Demers is absolutely the worst teacher that I have ever had. Her and Dr Laser teach together and almost the entire class is not passing. I think that neither of them should be teaching, but no one at the school even cares. DO NOT TAKE THESE PROFESSORS!!!

If you are going to take biology i strongly discourage anyone from taking it from dr. demers. She is not a bad person but the way she teaches is almost impossible to understand. The only way you will learn anything is by teaching yourself.

He sits through our lectures and looks just as lost as everyone else in the class. She is completely unclear about EVERYTHING. She makes references that she pulls out of her ass and does not answer our questions

She's pretty much useless. She uses the lecture slides that come with the book and reads off of them. She goes so fast that no one can copy down any of the notes. She doesn't answer questions at all. I pretty much taught myself the sections she taught. I had her along with Dr. Allman and while he was great, she killed biology for me.

I'm in the second week and already dislike her. She's making the students grade other student's papers because she doesn't have enough time to. She said she chose the topic "Debunking myths" just to get students to sign up...the class has NOTHING to do with it. I am extremely irritated and hoping it doesn't get worse as the semester goes on.

Terribly unclear with expectations of performance, assignment guidelines, and pretty much anything that you could possibly need to pull a decent grade in the class. Nothing you can do will ever be good enough.

Does not give any effective study tools (only one study guide the whole semester. It was for our final and was just a 364 question multiple choice test). Just a plain mean attitude (that's coming from someone that she actually liked). Do NOT take this professor. She makes it impossible to get an A. I studied 12 hours a week and finished with a B-.

She does not explain assignments well and she is very confusing at what she wants from you. She also gives no notes in class, and you have to learn EVERYTHING on your own. The only way to pass the class is to study nonstop. I would not recommend this class.

WORST PROFESSOR EVER! You basically have to teach yourself everything. Her exams are based solely on mastering biology content, and are usually accompanied by a group test. Wastes time talking about nonsense and her assignments don't do anything but waste time. Overall, this class blows.

I Had her for Bio 1. She is nice, but DONT TAKE HER CLASS! Unless youre already a genius about Biology, get out of her class! She's not clear about instruction, barely lectures & when she does its way too confusing. She does not know what she is saying when she tries to lecture. Professor Demers is very unorganized. Class has nothing to do with the proposal. Lots of homework that repeats itself over and over. You'll have lots of homework to do. At least 4 assignments a week. Worst professor i've ever had at FGCU. If you don't become one of her favorites your grade will drop each time you turn in an assignment!

I highly recommend that you do not take this teacher. She is unorganized, constantly changing the due dates on several assignments. And on the assignments, she will say one thing, then grading it a different way. The teacher is cool, but try to avoid all her classes.

Prof. Demers is the worst professor I've ever had. Her class is unorganized, not structured & she gives LENGTHY assignments that have nothing to do with the class. You will easily have 4+ assignments every week & you're grade will suffer if you dont alk about the things she is interested in. She has rubrics for assignments but DOESNT grade off them

Terrible teacher. Constantly going off on tangents. Expects students to fully understand topics for the pre tests and does not teach. She runs through a couple powerpoint slides in the last five minutes of class. Other than that she just hangs out and talks to students.

She will assign random assignments, and if you do not go completely above and beyond for that assignment, you will end up getting a C or even a D. Such a hard grader, even when hardly any direction was given for assignments. She gives out SO many assignments; lots of reading and analyzing and citing other papers. Lectures consisted of class discussions the whole 2 hr and 15 min. Can't go on phone even on breaks. NOT an easy A!!!!

Did research with Dr. Demers. She always forgot when our appointments were, forgot what my project was, forgot what we discussed, etc. etc. She makes you work very hard and she knows what she's talking about. However, she was very unclear in what she wanted from me and expected way too much from me.

Dr. Demers is a nice person but horrible professor. Class was very disorganized and assignment instructions were very vague. The worst professor at FGCU. IDS 3920 is not supposed to be a hard class with a unreasonable amount of time.

Do not take this class! Exams are 75% of your grade so no other assignment will bring up your grade. Exams are about 50-60 multiple choice with about 30 points being written response. She does not teach good. You have to pass the exams to pass the class. Hardest class I have ever taken! I don't recommend.

At the start, I thought that she was a good teacher with a lot of work. This all changed when she informed us that she grades our exams based on how much she expects each SPECIFIC individual to know. I never do rate my professor but THIS LADY needs a pre warning. She gets mad over everything. If youre not taking notes thats a problem. But its not like she will give you anything to actually take notes on. Get ready for 2 hour lectures and a lab everyday with no time for the lab. She said I need to quit my job to focus more on bio. Do not take this course unless this is the only course you are enrolled in. There are so many assignments that barely count toward your grad and lecture (if you can even call it that) is less than helpful. You sit in class for 3 hours a week and learn virtually nothing and then have 5-6 hours of homework to follow for maybe 10 points total.

If you want to fail and wish you never existed, then have fun taking this course. She doesn't care about you at all, she wants biology loving robots. Please do yourself a favor and run as far as you can from this professor. The homework is worth absolutely nothing, she gives 10-15 assignments a week, the god awful tests are the only way to pass.

the amount of work she expects for this course is insane. every other colloquium professor only requires 3 service hours. she requires 10 hours, for a SIX WEEK COURSE. the work is entirely overwhelming and beyond stressful, plus her instructions are so unclear. take anyone else. trust me.

All these bad reviews should be enough for anyone to see, you need to 100% avoid this lady. If you take Colloquium with her, this will ruin your semester. With her bio background, in her eyes you need to live, sleep & eat the environment. There is an extra 6-8 hours of work a week. Take a Saturday course over this or wait to graduate a semester.

The way professor Demers sets up the grade weighting is horrible. Exams are worth 75% of your grade, and classwork, labs, and homework is only worth 25%. Proffeser Demers sets students up to fail. She asigns around 10 asignments per class, and it barely helps your grade at all. If you are not a good test taker DO NOT take her class, you will fail.

This was by far one of the worst professors I have ever had. She does not teach and when she does try to teach it makes no sense. Her tests are extremely long and are the only thing that control your grade. She is EXTREMELY unorganized and her classes teach you nothing. NO NOT TAKE.

I should've looked at her ratings before. I'm not one to complain about professors; I tend to suck it up, but she was god awful. Most disorganized lecture I've ever listened to. The TAs helped me out more than her. She explained the labs terribly. I could go on and on. I'm surprised her title is "Dr." Don't know how she's still employed.

Very arbitrary grading process, nothing was clearly defined, ever. Lots of work for a class that's supposed to be fun and minimally challenging. She manages to make it the opposite. I looked up the reviews after I already enrolled in the class, and decided to stay thinking it wouldn't be that bad. No it is that bad. Trust me you'll regret it.

I don't recommend this class. Dr. Demers gives lots of work that is often unnecessary. There is too much homework, to the point where you can't study for exams due to the excessive workload. While professor Demers certainly understands biology, her ability to effectively lecture is lacking. She goes on tangents and looses track of time often, the TA's were more helpful. Dr. Demers requested sea turtle nesting data from Cayo Costa state park, where several FGCU students collected this data supervised by a professor who no longer works with the university and has found a way to get accolades despite doing no work and giving no credit to anyone. She also doesn't know how to use statistical programs to analyze data.

I took her for the honors sequence course for Biology 1. She is awful. Surprised the honors college allowed her to remain a teacher for them. She certainly has a deep understanding of biology but she is unable to teach it. Class is all exams and she will compare students with each other blatantly in front of the class using names.

Professor Demers has high expectations, but her unclear instructions and heavy workload make this class extremely challenging. Thankfully, tools like unstuck ai can help with study prep.

My previous review was so scathing it was taken down. Demers made what should have been an easy A class one of the most difficult classes I've taken. Memorizing 50 species, random writing assignments with no clear grading descriptions, service learning, and more. She would also throw fits when things didn't go her way. Stay far, far away.

Do not take this class if you're Chronically Ill. Missing classes REALLY puts you back, lots of in class assignments that can't be done at home. Really tough grader and gives unclear instructions.
