Hard Class But shes a good teacher exciting n fun! not very hard considering the class. lots of quizes n tests Don Quixote she loves so if ur good with that book go 4 it!
Not too hard, but be prepared for irritating surprise quizzes. She gives several big essays that will make or break your grade.
she is great, if i could i would take for all my classes, even those that r not in my major.
Dostoevsky. Fantastic prof. Cares deeply about students and material. Very dynamic/fun class atmosphere. 2 Papers, 2 Essay-Exams (easy if you read texts). Seems genuinely nice. Great teaching personality. She is quite attractive, in looks and disposition.

she is a very nice lady. Teaching ability is good, except sometimes she teaches what she read in a literary criticism text as if she came up with the idea. Nobody is perfect though. recommended!
Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, sense of humor, and attractive. She loves what she is teaching, and infects the class with her energy. She'll make you work, but she is so pleasant you don't think about it much. Would ABSOLUTELY take again!
very fair teacher, eventhough the course is a little diff. great person very fair
NOT TOO FAIR SOMETIMES!!! AND A BIT TOO DEMANDING
A little tight with her opinion and intrepretation but rightfully. Conversative in life and religious views, a hint too much on moral and hell. If you can shallow it, you like her class. Great person who is not only understanding but smart.
shes great, works u hard but she really knows what she's talking about and is a very fair grader. the coarse is easy if u do the reading. if u dont do the reading u will fail.also she's smart and u cant put anything past her so dont try. great class, take it!!!!!
She is great! Do your readings, and you'll be fine. She likes if you participate in class. Don't try anything stupid on the essay, as she is very smart. You'll do just fine on the exams as long as you keep up with readings. Overall, excellent teacher!
she is one of the best teachers in Queens! she enjoyes the material and that reflects onto students. there is alot of work, but she will bring the best out of you and you wont want to miss a single class!if ur interested in the subject, she's a must!
Amazing teacher! On of the best in QC. She is inteligent and knows a great deal about the works you read. And that is right that if you keep up with the readings you're fine.
Really hard class. Sooooo much reading. Good teacher, she gets really into everything, but her reading assignments are totally unrealistic. She also grades papers harshly. Reccomend only if you're a fast reader and a real good writer.
She'll make you work hard. Is friendly and polite EXCEPT when grading papers (some of the comments she writes borders on nasty!) Tip: if you don't want her to call on you to "discuss" or participate, try not to come late to class!!! But overall: a very smart lady who is fond of intellectually deep discussions
she was EXTREMELY helpful and allowed me to rewrite my papers - def go to her for help! i think she took it a little easy on us because it was a summer class. very educated and knowledgeable about all topics. all in all, good teacher and would def take her again. do the reading and participate and you'll be ok.
She Is a Great Professor and Very leniant when it comes to the papers. Lots of Reading But if you do your work You should be fine. Her Paper topics were extremely BORING...Thats what messed me up...
very interesting class, but when it come to grading she is extremely unfair. Yes she allows you to rewrite the paper by anyway it does not work. The hardest professor I ever had.
You're gonna think shes REALLY weird at first, but she's brilliant. Definately very insightful and knows her stuff. Her class isn't that easy though - you have to read the books & put in the work if you want the grade. She gives some quizzes, but if you read they're a piece of cake. 3 papers, 2 tests. Very interesting. Definately recommed :]
She is brilliant. If you go to her office hours she will make time to speak with you. If you are illiterate, you probably wont do well. If you are literate and willing to put in some effort you should to do well. I loved this professor and would recommend her to any hard working student.
Sometimes I'm surprised to find such gems of intelligence at Queens College but I'm so glad to be going to CUNY if it means I encounter such professors as Dr. Teikmanis. She's beautiful and brilliant and as a Russian major I aspire to become as passionate about Russian lit. as she is. Amazing class that elevated the consciousness of this student.
Good professor, really intense. I think she deserves a chilli pepper.
If you take read the material you will do fine. She is really a great professor who brings alot of interesting insight about the reading and is very passionate about the subject. She will call on you randomly so make sure u do the reading. Overall, She is a pleasure and i would recommend her to any student
Wonderful class! So excellent! She made the most boring classical lit interesting. The class was wonderful. Excellent feedback on papers. Take this class, so wonderful!
Horrible, heavy reading and very narrow minded to students opinions and thoughts on the readings. Annoying surprises quizes which you'll get a 0 if your absent or late. Tuff closed book final. Three 5 pages papers, and 3 short page papers. She says she doesn;t believe in giving A's. If your running an A the highest you'll recieve is a B.
Took her a few classes with her, and what a bore she was. Only 3 Russian students in the class got B and the rest got less. Favors her own race and seems to be ****. Midterm and final were serval long essay question base on 6 random readings out of 20, she didn't tell us which one so we had to study all of them.
aviod it will ruin your gpa
took her about a year ago, and i hear she hasn't change still doesn't give higher than a B. I recieved all A's and A+ on all my paper. I recieved an A- on the final. I still don't understand why i recieved a B- for my hardwork. Very harsh and unfair grading. DO NOT TAKE HER AND IF U R DROP HER CLASS!!!
give annoying surprise pop quizes everyday, the questions dont even make sense and no one hardly passes the quizes. There is a midterm and final on all reading each are 6 essay question and there is no review for the exams. We had many essays paper due each of 6 pages longs. I got a D+ on my final grade but never got anything lower than a B.
I over heard Prof. Teikmanis telland laughing to another professor about how she goes on rate my professor and rates herself so that she could have a good feedback. Disregard any positive comments on here b/c its probably her.
She is a very hardworking professor and expects the same of her students. The problem comes however, with her personality. She shouts out the assignments after half the students have left, sometimes she is unclear about the papers and what you need to do in order to get an A. In retrospect however, I learned a lot and her class was very rewarding.
She makes it impossible for anyone to get an A, stay away from her; she can be very rude.
Very tough very demanding professor but she gives such detailed comments on your papers that you'll thank her at the end for making you a better writer. Her courses are LASAR courses but don't take her if you aren't open to learning about Russian history. She's really expanded my knowledge, to hell with these other comments, we need more like her!!
The worst, doesnt give higher than a B to her students. All the comments about her being rude and grading those her race are very true. I'm Russian and never got any thing higher than a C in her class and she gave me a B. On the other hand my friend who got straigh As and a few A- who wasn't Russian got a C
horrible
revising my ratings on the 13th... shes is for sure the worst in the department, avoid like her
hated her as a professor, but she sure was a great lover to pleasure with
I was her student years ago. I makes me glad that I decided to go teach in Europe instead of staying in the US where hard working teachers are slandered publicly for making the students work just as hard. If you're stupid and lazy you deserve a poor grade. Simple as that. It's sad to see what the American University system has become.
yes she's hot, but didnt let that fool you. It funny how there are rumors going around that she rates herself on this website, no wonder there are so many positive reviews, b/c i'm sure none of them are from her students. Her class is impossible to pass. There are 5- 6 page papers due as well as a tuff mid term and final and pop quizzes she sucks
i withdrew from her class, and i'm glad i did
I cant stand her, I don't know why she is still teaching; she should be fired
This professor was great and I enjoyed this class so much! I highly recommend her. It is very important that you do the readings on time and are ready to discuss them in class, otherwise she won't be happy. There is no half-a**ing this class. You need to put in a lot of effort on the many papers and assignments or you won't do well.
She looks like shes on crack and laughs at her own annoying jokes no one can stand her i dont understand y they dont fire her she loves yelling at students for having different opinions an dont agree with her view points theres not one day i enjoyed her class
She was horrible and became a disappointment
Makes getting an A impossible. A lot of these positive review seems to be have been made by her.
avoid like the swine flu
Took her class 2 yrs ago and I still hate her
OMG I took her 2 semesters ago. She is a complete kook. She is anal about cellphones and talks like she is on crack. I thought it was pretty funny that another kid wrote the same thing. I thought it was only me. Although she seemsvery passionate about the subject she doesnt know how to convey that to the students. I was completely bewildered by her
attendance mandatory even though you never want to go. She wants you to put her ideas into papers and when you do that she still gives you a bad grade. you ask her a question after class and she confuses you more. Whn you state ur ideas, she says they are wrong. So her office hrs are pointless.
Omg she doesn't believe in giving A s for the final grade. For all my papers I received A and A- and for my final grade a got a B-, doesn't make sense at all. She was a bore and would only call on Russian students. Avoid taking her, if you care about your GPA
let me confirm everything that has been said so far is TRUE. im taking her now and wow...shes rude ,arrogant , and when she asks u for ur opinion she shoves it in ur face by telling how wrong u are. She's a psycho and she thinks she's always right. PS: her laugh is very irritating. Guys she'll ruin ur gpa. Coming from a straight A student!!!
Hate this professor so much Idk why she's a teacher still they need to fire her she's awful do NOT u repeat do NOT take her , I mean unless you want to ruin your gpa
After I saw these ratings, I had to comment. This professor is wonderful. She is so passionate about what she teaches, it is inspiring. I lover her class. Yes, her assignments were difficult, but as long as you follow her instructions and answer the questions, you will do well. Also, the books she chose were great!
Avoid at all cost, she'll ruin your GPA and this is coming from a straight A student
great professor. she is hard to get along with at first but she grows on you. hard grader. difficult to get an A. in the end, the work you do has to be perfect.
I took her for comparative lit. She's intelligent, and will remind you as much as possible. She really does act as if she believes her opinion is superior, so don't bother with your own thoughts. If you want to do well on the papers, quote her. Ridiculous, I know, but that's what she wants. Avoid if possible.
I don't know what everyone is complaining about— she's a great professor; super energetic, nice, and gives a lot of helpful feedback. Just don't be late for class (she hates that)!
She's really knowledgeable on her topic. At first I thought she was a bit odd, but she grows on you and you really respect her. She made the subject as interesting as it could be. Very accessible and gave great feedback. Can be difficult to please and it's hard to get an A. Keep up with the work and take notes. I'd definitely recommend her.
STUNNING AND SMART. SHE WILL TEACH YOU LESSONS YOU WILL TAKE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM. SHE DEMANDS ACADEMIC WORK OF HIGH QUALITY. DO NOT FOOL YOURSELF INTO THINKING YOU WILL GET AN EASY A. GO FOR A REAL EDUCATION. SHE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR. I LOVED ALL THE CLASSES I HAD WITH HER.
She really is not fair whe it comes to grading paper and gives no credit for anything. It seems like she doesn't like to give good grades at all. She laughs at everything which is creepy too. DO NO TAKE...
She is a great professor. She is often available outside of class for assistance with papers and the books we read are great. She can be a bit of a tough grader, but that's why you can email her questions or meet with her before you hand in your paper.
Lots of books and papers! About one paper a week and they just increase in length throughout the semester. We were expected to read 3 highly intellectual large books and understand all of their symbols and meanings. Her grading wasn't too harsh just make sure you pay attention to what she says in class and take note of the quotes she mentions!
One of the toughest graders I've ever had in college. Prepare to write a paper every week and read boring, confusing and pointless books. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
you definitely have to work hard in order to well in her class. she is a very tough grader and is very picky about your ideas in each essay. you have to read allot of boring books in class and write at least 5 pages worth of essays on each book. She doesn't like to give A's as final grades, you literally have to be perfect to obtain one.
She is really enthusiastic about what she teaches and explains it well to the class. There are many papers and a lot of reading, but after a while you get used to the amount of work. If you ask for help she will be happy to meet with you after class to discuss a paper, etc.
Do not expect to walk into professor Teikmanis's class and receive an easy A. Her lectures rarely have much to do about the readings. She expects a lot from the papers, which can be very difficult to get a B at times. Other than that, her dedication to her work and her willingness to help her students are amazing. Take her class, amazing professor.
Avoid if at all possible. Tons of reading, which is to be expected of a comparative literature class. What's not to be expected is her apparent hatred for the letter "A". You won't get one. I'm leaving this review because I genuinely care about your sanity. Nice(ish) lady but insane workload and harsh grader, to say the very least.
Excellent professor. Yes, you have to work very hard and put a lot of effort into the class to get the grade you want, but you end up learning so much in the process. Take her advice and you'll become a better writer. It's not an easy A, but for an honors comparative literature course, that should be expected. She's very helpful and you learn a ton
Don't expect to get an A,you need to work really hard to pass this course,Not going to take her again
You want to get an a? HAHHAHA that's not happening. She doesn't belive in the breakdown of points, she throws them around but you will not get an A, even if your Jane Austin. She's a lovely person and very lively, but not worth taking the class for because in the end you will inevitably fail.
She is not as tough as others make her seem. Prof. Teikmanis always hands back papers with adjustments and lets you revise it for a better grade. Of course you have to read and participate to pass, this is college. Yes the readings are boring. I suggest you listen to her comments about the readings and include that in your papers. Good luck!
She's very confusing. Lectures are boring. Essays topics are confusing to understand. You can't really have a say in writing YOUR paper. She only believes in what she thinks and that's the only right way. You aren't allowed to think in your realm or your wrong.
It's an enjoyable class and the materiel is taught in a very interesting way. She's a very harsh grader. She doesn't just give A's, she believes you must work for them. What you get on the essays weighs heavily on your final grade. Listen to what she says in class because that's EXACTLY what she wants in your essays.
She is a nice professor who rly wants to see her students succeed. With that said, it is imperative to stay in line with her ideas that she makes pretty clear in class. Attendance is crucial to understand the opinion she is looking for in papers and to take pop quizzes that rlly do help ones average if paid attention! Overall, I enjoyed this class.
This professor has a quirky personality, and a real passion for her subject. There is not a lot of room for creativity- she wants you to mirror what she says in your essays. Do not try to make your own insights in your essays, and if you are a decent writer you should do well.
Teaches the material well with class discussions and interacts with students well but not an easy grader on essays. Read the books so you can participate in class and for quizzes.
She is the most annoying professor ever. She thinks she is right all the time. She expects us to memorize the books we read. She gives quizzes about the reading and she wants us to know who said what to who. Avoid her. She gives a lot of reading and writing midterms and finall in class.
Teikmanis assigns way too much work for a 100-level course. Grade consists of class participation, pop quizzes, two in-class essays, three essays out of class plus one mandatory revision for the third one, and a final essay. Would not recommend to those looking for an easy A.
worst professor of all time. she expects you to memorize the books for her pop quizzes. she always thinks she's right and you have to write what she thinks in your essays. her class was so boring and she is a bit weird. so many essays and girls get better grades, almost all the guys in the class got B+. I don't recommend her she is trash. AVOID IT.
have an opinion on something? Its wrong because shes always right. expects you to do and write exactly as she says. Have to write 6-7 incredibly difficult essays on boring topics. Only gives a few days to write the essays and doesnt even explain them properly. Multiple PopUp quizes. Her grading criteria is horrible. Impossible to get an A.
Professor Teikmanis will make you WORK for your grade, but she'll ultimately change the way you think and write for the rest of your life. A 2 page paper will usually take me about 1 hr to write, but for her expectations? A 2 page paper will take about 3 hrs. She has very high expectations, but if you work to meet them, you will learn a ton!
A very tough and picky grader. However, that's not much of a bad thing. She gives very detailed feedback on every single paper that she gives and will make you work for the grade. It is a lot of work and will kick you in the stomach if you're not prepared for it. But follow her advice and your grade and approach at writing essays will be good.
Professor Teikmanis is the worst professor I have taken in my entire Queens College experience. She gives 8+ papers, more than what is required for a W class. She will call you out at random to answer questions mid-lecture, so be prepared. She is not understanding at all, and her class will take over your life. I would not recommend her at all.
Professor Teikmanis is a passionate professor who wants her students to learn. This class is not an easy A and will take up a ton of your time. I wouldn't recommend taking with other hard classes. She is so sweet and will meet with you out of class to help you improve but if you arent a good writer you will be screwed. Don't take unless you need to
Professor Teikmanis is a very difficult professor but you can do well if you put in the effort. She gives a lot of papers but she also gives great feedback so you can keep doing better on each paper. Highly recommend meeting with her about your essays because she is so nice and helpful in office hours, thats the key to doing well in her class.
Professor Teikmanis is passionate about what she teaches. Her intentions are always good but she will make you work hard for your grade. She gives excellent feedback on papers, and utilizing office hours is very beneficial. The downside is the numerous assignments. This class is very tedious and time consuming. Must put in effort to do well.
The absolute worse Professor I've ever had in college. She is such a hypocrite. She gives feedback on essays but makes us redo our entire essay to satisfy her feedback but then makes even more comments after we submit the essay. She wants us to read the epic of gilgamesh, the odyssey, the tale of cupid & psyche and the monkey. she's annoying.
Absolutely the worst Professor ever. I didn't receive a bad grade considering how hard the class is; however, I would NEVER take a class with her ever again. Dont even consider taking a course with her, any other prof is better I promise! She is extremely rude and embarrassed my classmates and I various times, and even made us cry :(
Incredibly harsh grader, feedback is useless and contradictory. Avoid if possible.
Get prepare to carefully read and actually understand what you are reading. When it came to her papers, she is a tough grader and very picky on what she wants. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OR ELSE YOU WILL HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!! She does not play when it comes to her class and you should show her that you actually read the books by participating in lecture.
Had to withdraw from this class because it was just not it. Her class meetings were boring. I love classical literature but her class made reading the texts like a burden. So many essays too, which I understand because it's a writing intensive. But the due dates were not realistic and doable for students.
Most ppl in my class hated her but I didn't find her that bad. Very specific grading criteria. Basically it's her way or the highway. If you took AP Lit you'll find it much easier in her class. If not, good luck and go to office hours to see exactly what she wants you to do.
She is rough, 3 exams w responses and essay, 3-4 quizzes, 3 Papers and group discussions where if you dont agree with her, she gets very hostile. For freshmen students DO NO TAKE. English 151W is a better option for Writing intensive.
