She is very easy to understand. she answers all the questions. and she takes time to go over things until we get it!
Lady sucks. lots of information that you can not understand. test are hard and dont think your going to get any help if your not her favorite.. do not take her class if you want to pass or understand math 27
I really like her as a teacher. The class wasn't hard for me to begin with, but she makes it fun and interesting; you can tell that she really likes teaching and wants to be there.
Ok teacher. Kind of boring and class seems to go forever. She really likes to teach though. Easy class and tests are somewhat challenging, but if you do your homework you'll be fine.
Nora is a good teacher but she tends to go pretty fast. If you don't understand something ASK, and she'll explain. She tries hard to help you understand the material. If you do the homework you will do fine in the class. Tests are a challenge...but then again, shouldn't they be? Do homework = do well in class.
I had heard pretty bad things about calculus but Nora was very helpful in getting through the material. She really enjoys teaching and her enthusiasm shows! She is understanding and very helpful in class and during her office hours. Homework is regular but it is helpful that she allows one class before it is due to ask any questions you have.
She goes through the information too fast. I already took calculus but I felt like I was learning it all over again. Test are very hard......she actually grades homework. Only take her is you are really good at math. She is nice, but not very clear and expects you too know a lot!
Nice person don't get me wrong, but her ways of teaching and testing need a major overhaul! I got a 89% on the first exam, but trust me her practice exams are more or less useless when it comes to the actual exam. at the beginning of the semester we had a full class, this morning 9 students are left. If you take her class good luck, I mean that.
Many of the students in the class are upset with her. Just the other day after our most recent exam a student asked the question "What would happen if we all were to drop the class." Let that one soak in and see if you would take her as a teacher.
Nora is an excellent teacher. She explains things very well. Asigns only odd's in book for homework and if you get a 90% or above on homework yor lowest test score is dropped! Very nice and helpful!
Good teacher although the material can be hard so do all the homework so that you get to understand it.
Very good teacher, she has a LOT of info to go through, o sometimes it can be overwhelming, but she really knows what she's doing and has a very organized class. You get a pre-test hich is similar to the real test, so study it and you'll do good. Very nice and helpful, loves math, and loves teaching it! Definately recommend her!!
Mrs. Wheeler was the best math teacher I have ever had. I'm used to getting C's and D's in math and I got an A last semester. The homework isn't due until the test day so you have plenty of time to makeup work if you fall behind. She is easy to listen to and has a sense of humor. Do the minimum: pay attention and do the hw and youll do great!
I think she might be the best teacher I have ever had. She was really helpful and she always has her office door open if you need to talk to her. I usually don't do very well at math but she makes it really easy to follow. Highly recommended
Nora was nice, but was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She taught everything through examples, except for that a good amount of the time, her examples were wrong! She gave us practice test and then gave us the solutions so we could practice, but once again, her solutions had so many mistakes it was hard to understand. Very poor teacher.
I had to drop this class last semester b/c I was failing, but with Nora I Aced the class. She makes it so easy to understand and explains very well. Examples from class are helpful for homework. I definitely recommend her
She is a nice teacher but her lectures are sometimes confusing. I would usually try to write down her examples and teach it to myself later. She is fair but very hard. You get no grade for effort last semester i spent 200 hours in the tutorial center and still got a D. If you understand math she is a great teacher but if not i wouldnt take her.
Great teacher! Got an A. Very clear lesson plan, and helpful on homework questions.
She was an amazing teacher. Thanks to her i finally understood math. She is more than willing to meet you after class and help you with whatever you need. Highly Recommend her!!
Only good thing are practice midterms, but are not complete. Weekly quizzes on new material just taught too little time to do or learn. Demos always same, skipping steps, no hints on common errors or how to remember, and just one demo, no review from class to class, no connection to previous material.HARD grader, won't show how she got your grade.
i would not have taken this class with any other instructor. she clearly answers all questions asked. and her review sheets for the tests are helpful. she will drop your lowest test score if you have 80% or higher on hw.
Nora may seem intimidating at first but is a great teacher. She is the clearest math teacher I have ever had because she REALLY knows calculus. She is very helpful, loves to answer questions. Do the homework, listen in lecture, and (my biggest reccommendation to you in the Math 8 series) buy the answer book from the bookstore (helps a lot).
A really hard teacher. She takes away calculator first half of test. She does not gear her tests from the homework studied. She makes up her own problems. She will not pass you if you come close to passing and have worked hard. I do not recommend her especially if you have a hard time with math and need to pass Math 155.
At first I was getting a C in the class. I talked to her about it and asked her for her help. She was awesome!! She answered all my questions and did a thorough review before each test, which helped me get an A in the class.I highly recommend her. Ask for help if you need it.
Her tests are difficult, but she's a very good teacher, which helps bridge that gap. Make sure to do as much of the homework as possible because if you score >80% on the homework, she drops your lowest test score, which will be a life saver.
Best teacher ever! Made me understand Math. Had taken math155 over 3 times and dropped it always until I got Nora. Test amount for 60% of your grade and will drop your lowest test if you do all homework which is due at the time of the test. Good sense of humor, willing to help if you ask her for it. Always there during office hours.
Three words, best teacher ever!!!!for *b, which is calculus by the way.
Test is very difficult, make you feel like math for people who alway get A's only anything less get out. Even if your good at math before, still get ready for a battle, if ur not good at math, change major's you will not pass her class. Since test are broken to 2 part is hard to go back and check ur work.
Great Teacher. Tests are hard, majority are non-calculator. Very helpful and nice. Don't expect her to give back if she makes a test to long. If taking 1A expect large commitment. Show up to every class. If your looking for easy move on. Hard grader and grading scale. Know your Algebra and Trig! I still like her a lot though!
great teacher, definitely not the easiest but not too hard compared to other math 1a teachers. Knows what she is talking about, always willing to go back and help u understand something. Keeps class fun and lighthearted, but u will definitely learn a lot and be challenged. I definitely recommend that u take her class.
she was the worst. TOTALLY AGAINST CALCULATORS. DROPPPED IT AND TOOK IT WITH A BETTER TEACHER.
Nora Wheeler is a great teacher, she is easy to understand and will work with you. She not too hard or too easy, she is just right. The only problem was she was absent the last week of class but I highly recommend her.
I LOVED her. I wish she could teach all of my math classes, past and present. Really nice, made me laugh everyday, super patient, always willing to go over something in class or office hours. No question was stupid. Expects you to do BASIC math by hand (which is good) and not be so reliable w/ a calc. I learned to do fractions by hand.
Nora is a serious, dedicated teacher, and if you are ready to learn and work hard, I recommend her for Math 1A. She's clear, organized, and entertaining, and always willing to help students during office hours. But you will absolutely have to work hard and spend a lot of time on homework.
Nora is a very good teacher, and very helpful. You will have a lot of homework during semester which will not be graded;however, you will be really well prepared for tests. She always provide students with practice test before the actual test, which I found really helpful.
I LOVE her. She has to be the best math teacher I've ever had. She explains everything so clearly and is super helpful. Her tests are hard, but they make sure you know your stuff. I recommend her to EVERYONE. And she is super nice and funny. Makes learning exciting and interesting!
Best math teacher I've ever had by far; hardest class I've ever had by far; totally worth it. I was never into math before her. She's clear, funny, and offers armloads of help. If you're a serious student and you want to learn to be a good thinker and problem-solver, take her. Beware: the chance of getting an A is very low, despite hard studying.
Wheeler is a great person but NOT a great teacher. By the end of the semester half of the class dropped. I had to teach myself half of the material because she would just mess around during class. Tests are super hard, really have to know the material. Most of the class failed. I would not recommend her if your not a math person.
BEST math teacher ever! She makes the material easy and clear, if you listen in class. There were people being rude and not paying attention ended up failing the class. but if you pay attention, the class and homework are just easy. Definitely recommend her to anyone. She also has lots ot office hour.
Nora is nice but not a good teacher. She expects you know all the material from past classes. Doesn't like to show all the steps in promblems. More than half the class failed and we were the only section she was teaching...
She's very nice but her class is really hard. During tests half the test is no calculator at all, and no notes for the entire test with exception of a notecard on the final. Useually she is very clear, but sometimes she moves a little to fast for majority of the class to follow.
Nora is a great math teacher. She's super clear and focused as she works you through the concepts. She is also funny and mom-cute. I had to put in a LOT of time outside class to do well, because she expects you to know what you're doing when it's test time. She's a strict but fair grader. Highly recommended.
I expected this class would be an easy review for me, but I was wrong. The class was fast pace and the test were pretty hard, because you had to know your stuff. At the same time, she was super clear on what she was expecting and if you put in the time to do all the homework correctly and ask questions during class and office hours you'll be ok.
Friendly and always wants to help her students. Class lecture is not sufficient to complete homework without help. Lots of homework. Homework is graded. Exams can be difficult. Would not recommend unless you have a high aptitude for math.
Best teacher I've had so far! I'm terrible at math, but for once, I actually understood it, even though I took it during the summer! She's funny, and will help you if you need it. She lectures and then makes you do problems on the board, which really helped, but is very strict about the way in which you write them out.I'd take her again if need be.
This was the first time Nora taught a linear algebra class, and I feel she made a great attempt. Very funny! Always trying to lighten the mood and find a way to explain the material in a way you will understand. I could tell there were times that the subject was even difficult for her to explain, but overall she was great.
I loved taking from Wheeler, she would post all the notes and lectures and examples online so that you had access to them if you needed them adn if you missed you could still figure out what you missed. She was very helpful and answered any questions that arose. I will take her again because she is the best math teacher I have had.
Always willing to help her students.
She writes her class lecturesnotes on a tablet then postes them all online! I loved it. I wish all mathany teacher would use this method for our easy references. I was able to focus all of my attention on absorbing the material instead of writing it all down. Wonderfull!
She is the best math instructor! She does her best to explain things clearly and is very organized. Her lecturesnotes are super helpful. Homework is essential to get an A. Tests are not open note but you're allowed a small note card on the final. Her tests are two-part tests, in which you are allowed a calculator on the 2nd half. Take her!
Cool as a cucumber
Nora is almost always in a good mood. She is very knowledgeable, super duper nice, and a pleasure to spend 5 hours a week with. Her course is rigorous. She is very organized with her lectures and covers all the necessary material. She provides practice tests with solutions. I think she's hot.
Math 1A with Wheeler was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. She assigns 10+ hours of homework every week and it's nearly impossible to finish all the homework and still have time left to study the material. The tests were super tricky and confusing at times. Would advise to take another professor for 1A.
Explains the concepts very well. There's homework for every section, and a lot, but not due until test day. Always available for help. As long as you show up, take notes, and ask questions, you'll pass.
Nora is an amazing math teacher, I had her for a 150a/150b review corse. I can honestly say I have never enjoyed math more or understood it more clearly than in this class. Through school I was always the student to ask my teachers "but why" she truly values your understanding of the "why" and is happy to explain it. She is awesome, take her class.
This class is hard, if you took Calc in the past, you should be fine. She teaches Math 1A at a much faster rate than other 1A teachers. Assigns about 30-40 problems per assignment, tests are hard. No extra credit, says it herself. 4 Exams + Final, replaces lowest test exam with Final. If you've never taken Calc, I recommend another instructor
She's a good teacher no doubt, but moves at a very quick pace and expects a lot out of her students. Such as 15+ hours of homework a week. Tests are very tricky. Don't take if this is your first time in calculus.
Great Professor. Enthusiastic, lectures were very useful and well-explained. Tests were fair, nothing tricky about them (similar or easier than homework). Only downside is the extensive homework load, and her homework grading. She only grades two problems from homework rather than completeness. She's worth taking , put in work and you will learn.
Rushed through material, practically no review, left most students in the dust. She stopped to ask for questions, but I think everyone was so far behind no one even knew where to start. Test are HARD. You have to READ the book. LOTS of homework. She's super nice and clearly a geek, so as a human person - awesome. As a teacher, never again.
nope. not a good teacher. she rushes through the problems way too fast. she also assigns all of the homework to be due right before the test which makes asking for help from other people in the class almost impossible, since everyone is on a different level. she doesnt email back and will give you a bad grade if you dont come to class smiling.
Nora teaches the class with providing a small sample size of example problems for each topic with decent explanations of concepts. Sometimes this is enough, but a lot of the time the homework asked for more than what she provided for notes. I would recommend if you are okay with an accelerated teaching model and doing additional research for topics
Calculus is great!
So much homework. No time to eat. I lost almost 10lbs. I only had one other class. Each assignment took me 6 hours to do. I realized the most difficult problems were at the end where I would run out of steam. Doing the homework backwards cut the time in half. I rate a 5 because Math 1B was cake after her class. She gets you ready for the big one.
i took her math 151 class and i loved the way she teaches and she wants everyone to succeed. if you struggle in math she is perfect for you. i was able to come out with an A in the class. one thing i agree on with others is there is a lot of homework she assigns but her tests are easy. they are more based of her lecture notes and study guide
Nora is awesome. Everything about her is beautiful. She enjoys when the class participates and you can tell she is passionate about the subject. Probably the best math teacher I have ever had. She teaches the material thoroughly and stops for questions and clarification throughout the lessons. Her office hours are fantastic. Shecares about students
I took her based off the reviews that she cares for her students. I would never take her again. She rushed through all the material and would assume you understood and if you asked her to explain again she would say there is a tutorial after class in the library, GET A TUTOR!!! The worst teacher I had!! No extra credit!! Save your time and don't ta
Nora Wheeler expects a lot from you, especially information you've learned from previous semesters. However, she is very accessible outside and inside of class to get help. She didn't make homework due for us, but they're similar to quizzes she does every week. She wants you to ask questions about the homework or concepts. Don't be afraid to ask!!
By far my favorite instructor. Her lectures are clear and well planned. She has a great personality and attitude that made me love coming to class four times a week. She was also so helpful in that she scanned notes after every lecture, used free online textbooks, and provided you with a list of topics and practice tests before each exam.
Nora rushes through topics which are already difficult to begin with. Instead of showing the basics, it seemed like she would pick the hardest problem to do in class, then sit there and have fun solving it while students were left scratching their heads. Lectures were pointless. I would not recomend her.
Teacher is uninterested in what students know or whether they learn. Her lectures cover 20% of what is on the homework & tests. She assigns 60 problems per class (not odds or evens - all), accepts two of the 60 problems (telling you to keep the rest), doesn't have weekly quizzes to gauge student knowledge or learning, doesn't provide grades online.
Nora is a greater teacher who is willing to spend time with students to make sure they are ready to move to the next class. She is very clear during lectures on what will be on the exam. The greatest thing about her class are her lecture notes that she posts online right after class. Beware: She loves fractions!
Easy teacher, loved the way she took notes and made it easy to understand(sometimes). If you are the person that struggles with math I highly recommend her, as long as you show up and pay attention I guarantee you will pass with at at least a B.
I really REALLY enjoy Nora's approach to teaching a subject that isn't everybody's favorite, let's be honest here. As a former instructor myself, I take notice of preparation of all my instructors (not to judge, just out of habit) and she's on top of her game. Math is math, right? Who loves it? Not many. She makes it palatable, and I learned.
She is my favorite math teacher. So funny, smart, energetic. I enjoy coming to her class early in the morning and actually get sad if I miss her class! She makes you learn, and I mean learn for a life time. Definitely inspirational. Makes me want to become a math professor just like her :) I wish she taught calc 3 for next semester! def recommend
Looking back, Nora has by far been the best math teacher I have ever had at any of the schools I have attended. I took a Math150A spring course with her as well as a summer Math150B course. Her notes are SO organized and clear. She made funny jokes in class to lighten the mood and was really helpful whenever you asked her questions.
Nora is a great teacher that, unlike many of the reviews, explains nearly everything to a useful degree. She keeps the lectures engaging (useful for a daily early class) and taught me second semester Calculus in a way that was right for me. Highly recommended if you want a decent challenge (It's a 5 unit class after all) and actually want to learn.
Good teacher, she has a great sense of humor to make class more fun. I took her class for 155 and she was good. Exams followed the material, just don't miss class. I would forsure take her again. Recommended.
One of the best Math classes I have taken. Don't be afraid to ask questions, she tries to explain in different ways and is happy to give example problems. Also available to help on homework questions by solving it with the class.
Rushes through material without waiting a proper amount of time for students to ask questions. Her attitude towards students is condescending. I would recommend that you do not take a course with her, unless math is your major and comes easily to you.
Nora acts extremely patronizing towards students. She rushes through class material and doesn't allow calculators what so ever which makes it even harder. I've emailed her several times with questions and has never gotten back to me. Unless math comes naturally to you, I do not suggest taking this instructor.
Nora is fair teacher. If she's extremely challenging to you thats probably because either 1. you don't pay attention or ask questions then blame the teacher 2. it's math what did you expect. She's very helpful and understanding of student's situations. Overall one of the best teachers I've had at the jc.
Really awesome math teacher. She is super helpful and accesible. I have never understood math until taking her class
wheeler is a pretty great teacher. Shes always willing to help as long as you ask for it. Math was never my strong suit but taking her really helped me develop way better math skills. Its really crucial that you do the hw, they always show up on quizzes and tests. If you do your work and keep up and ask her questions, youll get a good grade.
She is a great person. An amazing person. BUT fails to actually give people time to actually understand the concepts before moving on. I would not retake this class again because mainly she does not care about whether half the class passes or not she will not help to give those people more in depth help. Repeating her exact notes like your stupid
Tough grader and tests are way too long.
Wheeler is an amazing teacher and is willing to go out of her way to help you. She is very clear with what she expects from you but she expects a lot so be prepared. You have to put in a lot of effort into the homework or you will not pass. She provides very detailed practice tests to prepare you and the tests are almost identical to the practice.
the course gets harder, she goes faster. Exams and quizzes are on another level which she does not prepare you for. I studied 30 hours a week as a starting engineer and thought maybe i wasn't good enough, but it was not just me, multiple students felt like this. We started with 34 people, ended with 8. Her teaching matched how much she liked us
she's very nice and understanding professor but in my opinion she teaches different material than I was taught back in high school also because its been awhile since I took math. its all up to you If you want to take her class. I would recommend trying her class first and see if you understand her material then if not don't take it.
For me personally, I just couldn't process all that was being thrown at once. She's a nice and cool lady and grabs the attention of her students well, mainly my fault for not taking a class to prepare for this, just too much work thrown at once. two chapter assignments and quizzes, if you like a fast paced challenge then go for it.
Shes a nice person but doesnt give her students time to understand material. she excepts a lot out of you which is understandable for the class it is. But the problem is the why she structures the class theres no way you can do 30 problems day in and day out all due within a week. Dont take her class its not worth the stress of feeling stupid
Super strict, class is very fast paced, not very forgiving with grading.
I had Nora for 3 semesters, from 1A to 1B and 1C, both in person and online, and I loved the way she taught in both platforms. You could tell she had a lot of fun talking about calculus and that enthusiasm made the class very enjoyable. There is definitely a lot expected of you, but the challenge makes you really learn and its very rewarding.
Nora was a really tough grader and made it almost impossible to pass her class. I spent 20+ hours a week on this class and had to do my own research and watch YouTube vids to understand. She didn't seem prepared to teach this class, she would give us the homework with the answers on it and her answers would be wrong, we would still get graded down
I had Nora for 1B when was great transitioning to online, then I had her for her first 1C class. Her tests reflected the homework and lectures, the lectures were amazing and made it easy to understand the concepts. The tests were difficult, be she was always there to help out. The homework was long but she graded every other assignment.
When I first took this class I hadn't taken a math class in about 2 years and I was super nervous. Nora does everything in her power to make sure her students succeed and even has a review day before test where you all go over a practice test. Overall she inspired me to do great in math and I have a new found love for math.
Ms. Wheeler is a hard teacher, but she gives good foundation. Would 100% take this again if I needed to.
Any math class with Professor Wheeler is great! She does a great job balancing lectures with classwork so I felt like I could practice what I was learning during class. She is willing to help students with homework during office hours and makes sure we are prepared for the material by showing students how to do the hardest problems during class.
Great professor! Math 1A is a hard class, but she does a good job of preparing you for Math 1B. Hard problems are done a lot so when you encounter easier ones they're alot easier. I would definitely take her again if I had the chance! Lots of homework, but it helps you really learn the material well.
It's a very fast paced class. The amount of homework is ridiculous. You have to spend too many hours every week on this class and have to do your own research and watch YouTube videos to understand. This class takes WAY too much time away from me to do my other classes. This class is almost unbearable.
This was my first math class in almost 2 years and despite it being very hard, Professor Wheeler made it easy to understand. I still struggled the whole semester but that was due to my own faults. She makes it interesting and explains why she does every step. Even if you mess up she doesn't get upset and is happy to take extra time helping you out
Nora knows her stuff but doesn't convey it well. Everything is fast paced and it is hard to keep up, so I highly recommend that if you take Nora prioritize this class.
Really good teacher who cares about you passing!
Very good teacher who is caring and wants you to pass!
One of the best math teachers at srjc. Very caring and always willing to help struggling students.
Professor wheeler is a teacher you should take if your someone who has struggled in math in the past.i was nervous going into the class but thanks to her I was able to make it.
She covers nearly 2 sections per day which is 8 sections of homework per week. She'll make about 3 complex problems due the next class day and upwards of 20 even longer problems PER SECTION due before the test. Day before the test ~10 sections are due with 200 PRECALC problems. With a part time student schedule I could not keep my head above water.
Almost all of her classes are just taking notes and most of the actual learning is expected to happen by one's own accord. Yes, she has office hours but her class is already 5 hours a week. Notes isn't a great teaching environment and students have to go out of their way to learn on their own time.
Math 27 specific is a very difficult class, that's why it's 6 units. She is sweet but also has to teach 6 units worth of material in one semester, it is very FAST.
Wheeler is quite nice and seems like a person who genuinely enjoys teaching. However, through the semester, falling behind is extremely easy. She gives thousands of problems that are hard to keep up with. She expects you to understand problems she hasn't fully explained by practicing, but you can't practice if you don't know what you're doing.
Math 1A is a challenging course, but Professor Nora's clear teaching style and helpful practice tests make it manageable. Consistent homework is key, and unstuck ai can be a lifesaver for study prep.
you're on your own in this class. Nora only knows how to explain problems in a way she understands but not for struggling students. She expects you to already know everything math related. So if you're someone who hasn't taken any math courses in a very long time I would not recommend Nora. Please choose a different professor!!!!
Having climbed the math pyramid at SRJC, looking back Wheeler laid down amazing foundation. I have never felt like my calc skills were lacking. She did have challenging exams and a lot of homework, but honestly I would 100% take her again. Thanks Wheeler for preparing me well!
Could not seem to explain any of the subject matter. Students must learn concepts from other sources, such as YouTube professors or analyzing the textbook yourself. Class time is a waste of four hours per week, and you will have to learn on your own time. Assignments are unreasonable level of busy work. Very time consuming and hard to learn.
This class is super fast paced and you can quickly go from understanding something in a unit, to quickly getting a headache from all of the new information she is dumping on you. Each assignment can take up to two or three hours. You must attend in person in order to succeed. Two thirds of my class dropped/failed.
I had Nora for discrete math, which she taught for the first time. Homework was paper-based (no Canvas). Nora was kind and flexible, but unfamiliar with discrete. This resulted in confusing/incomplete lectures and a lot of independent study. Thankfully, she made her tests very easy, and I think her future MATH4 classes should be better.
The way she explained the material was OK, but it honestly felt like a lot of it was left up to the student to do their own research. I get that it's kind of supposed to be like that, but it also didn't help that there was an insane amount of homework.
She's a solid professor. She has a fun personality so the lectures aren't bad, and the practice exams are really good. She assigns tons of homework problems in bulk but she just occasionally checks if you are doing them and gives credit for that. She made us calculate our own grade, didn't use canvas for that. Not my favorite class but it was fine
