Very confusing teacher, has troubles speaking english and writing comprehensible exams. When you ask her a question she often doesn't understand. Fairly easy exams though, but you're better off reading the textbook than listening to her
Really rough. Hard to understand, pointless textbook, and some irrelated quiz questions. Tries to stay cheery, but my easiest class to fall asleep in.
Makes course harder than it needs to be. Hard to understand. Nice lady just not such a great prof.
Lectures are confusing and tough. Tests aren't as difficult. Class has more math than necessary. Topics are not really interesting or practical to real life. Lots of theory.
Fairly difficult class but Prof always has time for students and provides ample resources for learning the material. Have taken other classes with her and would take more in the future.
Tried to give Noriko a chance but she is a terrible teacher. She gets frustrated with her students, cannot keep the class interested and has extremely poor communication skills. Economics is my forte and a subject I take great pride in, thanks to Noriko I have left uninspired, frustrated and dejected. Avoid her if you can.
say will help, but you do go to her, she just refuses to help at all. only interesting in helping the students she likes. make class way too hard to understand than it should be. other university's online notes are even more helpful than her class!!!!!!! But exam is kind easy if you do the problem set....=_= almost no respect to students at all
She is one of my favorite professors in univ.As a prof, she is hard-working and always willing to help students in or outside of class. What she expects from her students is quite clear. So, it is not that hard to do well in her class. It is important to do the readings and problem set regularly though.
Good teacher, but do the problem sets
Worst teacher...likes selective students and doesent give a rats about most of the class. Grade is based on 2 midterms and a 50% final which I find ridiculous. Cannot understand her english one bit.
Great and very helpful teacher! If you want to do well, you should work hard. No pain,no gain!!
Once you get used to her style you will probably like her. Definitely do the problem sets from the start though. Half the class didn't realize how key this was in the 204 class and subseqeuntly got owned on the first test
Most people say she's too hard but the fact is that she covers all the material in class. If you don't go, that's your own fault. She is super, super organized, provides great assignments and is incredibly clear about what to expect on the test. I felt as if all evaluation procedures were incredibly fair.
A helpful teacher, the exams are hard. However, it's not impossible to get a good grade if you study all of her notes and problem sets.
Very nice lady, funny at times. Exams are very hard even when attending every single class, reading the textbook, doing the problem sets, and going to her office hours. She posts practice problems, but they are so difficult that students cannot solve the suggested problem without looking at her solutions. PRINT LECTURE SLIDES before class.
her lectures are easy; however, only 40 percent of the students of the class pass the course, within this 40 percent, 25 barely passed (50%-60%).
Difficult exams. funny at times, but wastes time in class yelling at students instead of teaching. English difficult to understand. Review problems are helpful. Not good at answering questions; either does not understand or cannot answer coherently
How is this woman still teaching? difficult tests, cant answer questions and can hardly speak english
She is difficult to understand, it is essential that you give her your undivided attention in class. The textbook will be your best friend, study through it. Tough class, practice drawing diagrams for her tests.
Noriko is an excellent econ prof.always avaiable during office hours and really keeps you motivated with the course. micro econ is not easy and she does very well to help me learn material. She is funny at times and is strict. must attend all lectures or else your hooped. Must see her in office hours. she will help your final grade if she knows u!
Tough class. Lectures are sometimes hard to follow, but if you are able to follow it makes sense. It helps reading the text and knowing the terms before the lecture. Also beware, once in a while she singles people out and yells at them for talking or not taking notes. Sometimes she doesn't understand people's questions.
She is s toughnut... not easy class... but managed a pretty good grade for it...
Professor Ozawa speaks English very poorly, lacks proper communication skills and is rude because she lacks the cultural knowledge of Western society. She is yet another example that "meaning well" actually amounts to nothing. She should re-evaluate how she approaches students and her own course.
Sometimes she will make fun of the students in the class for doing simple things like asking questions. Many people complain that shes too hard, and while the course is difficult you really just need to put in some effort. It's not her fault if you do poorly.
really poor prof! rude and has no respect to students at all. she makes fun of students who asked simple questions. exams are hard. study prob set
rude and has no respect to students at all. she makes fun of students who asked simple questions. exams are hard. study prob set
she makes fun of students who asked simple questions. exams are hard. study prob set
Rude prof, hard to understand. If you go to her after class she can be of some help, but overall she shouldn't be teaching at a university and her English is practically incomprehensible. She should lighten up on students. She's teaching concepts she cannot explain in English. Spelling mistakes galore! Anyone have an electric dictionary? Or toaster.
Awful.
Nice lady, doesn't help students.
She was strict professor, but the grading was fair. Exams were composed of problem sets she posted on WebCT prior to the exam. MCs on exams were easy but long answer problems can be difficult if you do not do the problem sets. She gives mandatory Aplia assignments, which you must pay, but it's free 25% of your course grade.
Poor teaching skills, little interest for students to succeed. Avoid if at all possible.
poor teaching skills, tough class. aplia or should i say, "apria" ftw
She is very organized and her lectures parallel with the textbook. If you go to lecture, she mentions and walks through the types of problems, particularly the written problems, that will be on the tests. Do her problem sets on WebCT as most of the written questions are very similar. You can do very well in this course if you put in the effort.
Noriko is a really difficult teacher in class but teaches the really important concepts over and over and reinforces them. She is a hard marker but it's necessary later on to make sure you know what you're doing. go see her outside of class and she is a whole other person!!
best econ professor at UBCO
Super good
She is really hard but if you go to her lectures you will learn everything you need to know, she makes it so you have to know what you are doing and not just memorize a book. hands down best econ prof at ubco
The material is fairly difficult, but Noriko is a good teacher. She is very clear, organized, and efficient. Do the online homework assignments, read the textbook, go to class, and make use of the resources available, and you can do well.
She makes difficult exams!!!
hands down best prof I've ever had. Econ is a pretty dry subject but her lectures were totally worth attending and her exams were only tough if the material wasn't studied. I thought her marking procedures and exams were beyond fair.
Ugh… she is so hard to listen to!!!! extremely strict…. NEVER comes prepared!!!! Boring WORST OF ALL: When we got to one of the chapters, she told us "I don't really understand this, so we are not going to do much of this."
Master of Hard econ questions like you can't even guess where the questions came from. however I enjoyed the challenge of getting a good mark from her and appreciate her knowledge of economics.
Her teaching is really bad.
Really really bad!!!!!! Poor pronunciation!!! The worst teacher I have ever seen!!!!!
Worst teacher ever you can't even talk to her without getting yelled at. If you can switch out of her class.she doesn't deserve to be a prof. Her accent is so strong, you won't be able to understand a word she says.
Best Econ Prof. She isn't the prof you can miss the lectures, or not do assignments and expect to get 90s, HOWEVER. she teachers everything so precisely, you know every kind of question that would be on the test, and from there you have to APPLY the concepts taught. Notes are amazing, answers posted so you know what she expects. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Noriko is the standard for all University classes. Her tests are fair and she really emphasizes what is worth knowing. She expects the best from her students, but will get angry at bad questions and rudeness in class. (talking, texting). She's the bar.
Very hard to understand because of her accent. Her slideshows are very well organized and helpful. Recommend to print off lecture slides and write notes during class. Exams are difficult and require a lot of studying. Clicker is mandatory, no laptops during class and Aplia helps you understand the next lecture. Lectures are boring so be aware.
Painfully boring lectures and hard to listen to cause of her accent. Posts helpful slides online. Harder than other Econ profs.
terrible. that's the basic conclusion
hardest prof i've ever had but probably one of the best. her classes encourage students to actually learn concepts rather than memorize and regurgitate. It has helped me in the rest of my econ courses huge. if you're struggling, go see her during office hours, she's a lot nicer.
Noriko seems a bit hard around the edges but she genuinely cares about student success. She is passionate about the subjects she teaches and wants people to listen, learn and understand. Her tests are difficult, but you can get a good grade by completing all assignments and attending all classes.
Best econ prof. If you are here to learn and get an education (not just the paper at the end) this is hands down one of the best professors UBC has to offer. The day/morning before tests do the assignment, lecture, and practice questions PROVIDED and you will get a A. (The trick to getting a A in her class - you're welcome)
Horrible teacher. Boasts about how good she is. When someone needs to convince you they are good they usually suck. That's the case here. Really hard marker wouldn't recommend to anyone. Avoid her.
She is strict, won't take your crap, but she is always willing to help and she wants you to succeed.
Boring lectures that are not engaging in any way, drives many students away from pursuing economics which is shame. Very rude to students if they do not understand what she is currently going over (which can be unclear at times). Unfortunately she really ruins many students' introduction to Economics.
Brutal prof. Very hard to understand, and her exams are much harder than anything you do in assignments. Would not recommend to anyone.
Although it's not interesting, her lectures and exams are very clarified and thus easy. Compared to other professors, her writing is super easy to comprehend. If you want to boost your GPA, you should take her course. If you feel you understand textbook, you don't need to attend classes.
Well, she is a generous professor, as long as you persevere, you get a high grade. I got 98 final on her Eco 101.
I like the fact that she doesn't tolerate nonsense, she is very helpful and her course is interesting,I thought she is on of the great profs i ever had.
Noriko is not easy but you will learn. I took 101 with her and she is much better in the upper level econs. If you want to actually learn take a class with Noriko. Do problem sets!
i like her she is amazing
Classes are boring and she can get extremely annoying and rude at times. Explanations are good enough to help you get through the course but reading the textbook helps a lot. If possible, try to get another professor.
She's rude when answering questions and always makes people asking the questions sound stupid. Some exam questions are unclear and she always tries making horrible jokes that do not work.
Horrible professor. Doesn't even seem to understand the questions that students ask her & also seems reluctant to even answer a question when you go to see her. Plus, she's also extremely rude, boring & seems to act like she thinks she knows everything. Much better off finding another professor. Worst professor ever. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER!!!
Horrible and useless. Worst professor/teacher/lecturer ever!
I think she is an good instructor. If you respect her, she respects you.She is good at teaching graphing. Of course you wouldn't find it helpful if you do not attend class. Her tests are hard. Be prepared if you are taking it. But overall, she is a good professor.
GRRREAT prof. Hard but fair. Had her for both 101 and 204. Do problem sets and ask for help. She will recognize you from class if you go in to her office which will help you. Laughs at own jokes though... Definitely go to class for this one guys
She is a great prof if you can follow her flow in class, or else she can be the worst prof you have ever seen. Her problem sets are quite useful :) However, she cant answer students' questions clearly, and she can be rude at times. But I LIKE HER. TAKE HER COURSE AND YOU WILL LEARN. PS. I know nothing about Econ before taking her course.
Tough on exams, but her lectures are seriously good. If you attend lecture a definite pass. Also she doesn't mind you going to her office hours.
She has a somewhat tough accent to decipher. Tough tests. Often rude to her students who ask question both in lecture and after class. She is very passionate about ECON and will bite your head off if you don't share that enthusiasm or don't understand. She's tough. Lots of Aplia assignments.
Basically, Noriko is a good prof! The tests maybe tough, but if you finish your homework and review before tests, it's fine.
Noriko speaks English awefully. If you read and understand the text, you will do fine on her tests. She teaches the exact same material as the text but the text just explains it much better. Her examples are often even right out of the text. She ensures you attend class with pop quizzes. She mocks students who put their hand up in class. Terrible.
The subject material is quite difficult, so it is essential to read the textbook and attend lectures. Noriko did clear up some parts of the textbook that I found confusing. She offers a lot of practice, both online and in class. You can tell that she cares about her students. Plus, she makes a lot of jokes, which helps when the lectures are long.
Lectures are good. notes, problem set, solutions are extraordinarily useful and clear. Lectures are crucial if you wanna get good grades (diagram and graphs are not available in lecture notes, you hv to get them in class). Not really tough as long as u pay effort and read textbook. a lot of aplia assignment.
Her lectures are really clear, fully explains the course material. Exams are pretty tricky.
Noriko appreciates those who work hard, and she does all she can to ensure that the students who are interested do their best. That said, if you don't put in the work to really learn the material, you'll find your way into her black books eventually. She is a prof to be respected; she makes up for her tough demeanor with passion for the subject.
The course itself if a little bit challenging for some people. But i found her lectures extremely helpful and clear. Tests are tricky and hard, definately need to study hard for that. She usually go through practices in class to prepare the class for the exams. iClickers are only for participation marks, doesnt matter if you get it right or not.
She's funny, and can be fair in her overall grading, but these positive qualities are masked by her ability to make you feel like scum. Her tests might swell be a sheet that says "I bet you didn't expect this question" followed by a remark saying: "Oh you bet I wanted you to memorize all those graphs." Don take this course unless ur a try hard.
She seems to be nice while teaching the course, but when ANYONE asks ANY question, she tends to humiliate them and doesn't explain anything clearly. Her lectures are mostly reading the ppt. Homework aren't related with tests, and she even got a few points wrong. What kind of Ph.D could get the first year externalities stuff wrong?!AVOID!
Noriko is an incredibly unkind woman, she will target students in class that she doesn't think are paying attention and yell at them and is very condescending to anyone who asks a question. That being said she is a good professor in that she is very good at explaining things.
She is excellent prof and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed her lectures.
Fair professor. Has high standards for tests and learning. Great at teaching the required material. Clear and concise. Sometimes entertaining. Must expect to have to do the assignments and readings before class
Puts down students and discourages one - Is this the quality we want in an educator? Fail to put herself in other's shoes while passing demeaning judgement. Therefore, I conclude her to be unprofessional.
This is NOT a course where you study by reading the ppts You HAVE to actually do the extra problem sets she posts online before a midterm to do well. Her tests reflect the homework. The questions really force you to understand the material. Never ask her questions on hw unless you've shown you've at least attempted the question. High expectations.
She's the meanest prof I've had so far. She gives you chapter tests during finals weeks and blames you for not doing them earlier. She's knowledgeable but, her personality is probably why she's still trying to find a bf to take her out for nice dinner so she doesn't have to eat frozen food all the time.
Her lectures seems easy but her tests are unreasonably hard.
If you ask a dumb question she will call you on it. Easy class , very interesting and very funny.
She seems nice during lectures, and tells you that she wants to help you and that you should go and find her for help after class if you need it. However, when you go find her, she tells you that the question is easy and that she mentioned it in class, and gives you this look that you are stupid. She knows her economics really well, but impatient.
The "extra help" she gives like supplementary problems are basically useless! They do not correspond to the tests at all.
Noriko provides help to her students with help from TAs and visiting her during her office hours. She doesn't allow laptops in class. She would walk up to you or point you out if you're making noise or disturbing the class. Get ready for lots of Chapter quizzes I mean every week. Reading or Studying is a must for exams.
If you Show Niroko that you care, she will definitely care for you and for your grades. Attend the TA hours they help a lot.
Noriko is a straight to the point professor. She goes slowly through the curriculum, thus giving everyone a chance to learn. She does iClicker quizzes for participation marks, but they're never a surprise. Reading the textbook is a must. Easy online assignments make up 20% of the grade, so easy to do quite well.
The class is not easy but if you try hard and show that you are interested, Noriko will help you a lot.
Noriko's class is not easy. However, if you work for it, you'll be rewarded. Overall Noriko was very clear and fair.
Expect a lot of homework with MyEconLab but it's very helpful with her tests. She reuses a lot of questions from previous tests and homework quizzes. She is very clear and to the point. I enjoyed her class.
Tests are easy. Attendance is optional. Lectures are straight forward. Although very rude individual. Wait until this professor retires from UBCO. Famous for Econ major students.
I couldn't stand her hotness. Amazing hair style and fashion sense.
She basically weeds people out. If your not considering taking econ as a major/minor, run for the hills and take an easier 100 level class. And if it's a requirement, I'm sorry. I went to TA hours every chance I could, did all the homeworks and clicker quizzes. Still got a C.
Noriko's lectures have a huge amount of material. I personally did not like her teaching style and had to work a lot to catch back. Although she seemed pretty strict and rude at times, she gave some extra marks on my midterms, and offered extra questions as well.
Worst Prof ever!!! Rude, hypocritical, grumpy are only some words I can think to describe this teacher. If you can even make out what shes trying to say to you, its most likely rude, discouraging criticism about last nights MyEconLab homework which is absolutely awful! Never take a class with Noriko, and if you ever have to use MyEconLab, godspeed.
Her lectures aren't bad but she posts everything, if you stay up to date on the MyEconLab assignments you'll do fine in the course.
Okay, she's tough but good. She knows her stuff and is super easy to talk to! The lectures can be a bit dry, but she loves when people ask questions. I definitely had to work for it, but do the online work and you will do great! Also, she posts amazing lecture slides. Print them out and take notes on them (from the lecture and textbook).
She teaches economics well enough but she is really rude and scary. I went to her office hours once and she yelled at me and asked if I was stupid and I got an A. Bottom line take econ with someone else if you can tough it out with her if you cant.
She's okay, but it can be hard to understand her because her english isn't amazing, which can sometimes make lectures a bit dry. You kind of get used to it, though, and she's genuinely passionate about the material, which helps. In all, she's decent at communicating the material, even if it primarily through her lecture slides (which are posted).
Lectures are straightforward, however tends to go through the material very quickly. Midterms and the final exam were fair whilst the online assignments were easy. Clarifies doubts during office hours, however it can be tough to understand her at times due to her accent.
Didn't enjoy her class, she knows she's not liked and doesn't care. Very old fashioned. Doesn't allow you to use laptops in class. If you want to do well in her class do the practice questions she gives you and re-do the multiple choice questions on Connect. Reading the book isn't mandatory, managed to get a B+ by going through the slides only.
Lectures were material-heavy and fast-paced at times which is something that could have been avoided. Midterms and the final were fair whilst the assignments were challenging and time-consuming. Easy to do well in the course as long as you complete all the problem sets multiple times.
DO NOT TAKE HER LECTURE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!!!
Hard to understand in lectures and doesn't explain in logical ways. Expects you to know how to expand on concepts after 1 lecture, yet doesn't teach the concept well enough to do that. Says she wants people to ask her questions (in office or class) but is rude to them when they do.
Noriko is very clear about what she expects from the students and what it takes to get a good grade in the class. Attending the lectures is important, especially in the later chapters of 101, where the material is heavy on graphs. If you do the MyEconLab on time, and do the practice midterms and exam, you'll get a good mark very easily.
Horrible prof, do not take unless you have to. Very confusing in class and if anyone asks a question she gets flustered and doesnt end up answering the question. Just says she doesnt understand and moves on. If anyone is talking she gets angry and moved on without explaining the concept.
Prayers for the people who take her class
She isn't that bad like the other reviews say. Yes she is strict about certain things, but if you just sit there and take her lectures like a normal person, you'll be fine. (Won't recommend chatting with friends during lectures) Overall, I thought it was a good experience.
Noriko cares for her students and did not complain when her student count raised to 500 this year. However, the material she teaches is difficult in nature (not helped by a language barrier). You must do homework to understand Econ, there are no surprises. More than once she took class time to talk about life and inspire her students. A great prof.
one of the best prof I ever had. Read the textbook every week + go to classes will give you 80/100 on exams. Watch the illustration videos she posted about diagrams will give you 10% extra on exams. Key to success: read the textbook before doing the homework. I read the textbook so I only spent 1 hour for preparing midterms and 5 hours for final
Probably the most caring professor in university. She puts up all slides used, and helps immensely with practice questions. Econ 101 is a hard class and the language barrier can get tough sometimes. However, if you attend every class the MyEcon Lab homework is easy to ace, and the tests completely follow the practice work.
Really cares about your grade if you care about your grade. If you skip class especially in the higher level courses ur gonna fail.
Econ101 is an easy course and she helps keep it that way. The Myeconlab homework and quizzes are easy and with infinite tries for the homework you get a free 15% for the final, and 2 tries for the quizzes which are short and easy as well. Her midterms are more than fair and you don't even have to pass her final to pass the course. Solid professor.
She is very hard to understand with her thick accent. Can be very rude and makes it clear she is just here for the research aspect of her job.
can not understand her
hard to understand. condescending when asking questions. overcomplicates easy stuff and doesn't explain the harder material enough
Condescending to students who ask questions. Tough grader. Gives lots of quizzes and homeworks. Difficult to understand materials in class. Must devote lots of time outside of class to read text+do hw+do quiz. Wouldn't recommend unless mandatory.
Care about your grade and the learning experience? You'll probably be fine and enjoy her style. Noriko is a disciplinary professor who wants her students to succeed. Although, Noriko has little patience for students who disregard the lectures. Her lectures are well thought and precise, and she expects students to give an effort.
Makes fun of students who ask questions. Extremely condescending. Cannot understand her. Does not explain clearly. Just downright mean.
Very rude and harsh to people asking questions. In her 101 class, she scorns people who already took Econ in high school, but when people ask questions whereby they are new to the subject, she doesn't really answer the question, gets mad, and asks why they weren't paying attention. Well even people who pay attention have problems understanding her.
Very hard to understand and quite rude/mean to any student that asks a question. She has called out students who take photos of slides saying disgusting and forcing them to delete the photo. When questions are asked she yells at students saying that we just went over it, although she rarely makes things clear. Her multiple choice is VERY HARD
Very rude to students. Difficult to understand. I would reccomend Khan Islam instead.
She was kind of scary. Don't take photos of her slides or she will literally DESTROY you in front of the class. She can come off as condescending at times. I'm sure she has a nice side though. On the bright side, she makes sure to review the content well before the midterms and the final.
Noriko is a professor that you should avoid at all costs. She is unclear with her content, incredibly hard to understand and when you ask a question, she yells at you and doesn't answer the question in any way. It is a very tough class to pass with a prof like this
the worst prof at UBCO
She is very rude to students when a student has a question in class. She does not help you outside class and would demotivate you. She might be a good teacher but the midterm questions are out of the blue and you will not understand when the questions were done in class. She does not use resources well and the textbook is quite useless as well.
I am not the best test-taker so I often got poor scores on midterms and the final exam. Luckily, the MyEcon Lab and iClicker participation were worth 30% of your mark so you can still pass if you are in the same situation I am.
Professor talks to students in a very condinsending tone. Also is a control freak in the class room. Not a fan of her notes either.
Despite what people say, Noriko is a great prof if you want to learn Economics well. Her lectures are super straight-forward and detailed, and she explains and reviews everything really well. Don't ask questions in her class or use your laptops, because she will call you out, but if you stay under the radar and pay attention in lectures, easy pass!
Avoid this Prof at all costs. She will not assist you outside of class and cares very little about the well being of her students. She is rude and condescending. After a meeting with her she refused to shake my hand and dismissed macroeconomics as a class because the tests are multiple choice. Seriously, do not take her class.
Dont take her if you have another option.
Noriko is my favorite prof even after I transferred to the UBC Van. Many students said she's tough. If you want to learn something and get a really fair grade, go with her. Homework was reasonable and all the i-clicker questions were helpful. She lighted my learning motivation, I always love her.
Made my first sem absolutely horrible :)
I have nothing positive to say. She degrades students when they ask questions, her accent makes her lectures very difficult to understand, she moves through lecture slides extremely fast and expects the students to know what their doing even though its an 100 level course... I dropped it after I failed the first 2 midterms
I'm hating Econ 101 so much. She's a hard prof, low class averages, would not suggest if you don't need
Took this class 3 times, failed the first 2 and got 56 on the 3rd time. Worst prof ever
Noriko is a good prof. Study the myeconlab questions because she uses those for her exams just in different wording. Write down every graph she goes through on the overhead in class and those are the ones that are on the exams. If you want to learn something about economics go with Noriko
The worst prof/teacher I've ever had in my whole life. Noriko is a class control freak, she's rude, unclear, slow, boring, etc. I was doing her midterm and while I was filling up the bubble sheet, she snatched the paper out of hand and didn't grade my test so I got an F. I tried approaching her but she said "I don't care". don't take this class.
The only reason I got a good mark in her class was from reading the textbook and going to supplemental learning sessions. She will regularly pause class to yell at students taking notes on laptops. If you take a minute more then the assigned time to do tests she will give you a zero.
Wouldn't recommend her to anyone. Super condescending and wastes so much time getting angry at students (Could've used that time to explain concepts better). She usually just reads off the slides, and goes through slides lightning fast. People's notes are half empty because of how fast she goes through slides. Better to avoid her as a prof
Best prof in UBC O ever. Dedicated, respect students a lot!
This prof I strongly recommend, it is she who brings me the interest in the study of Economics! Dedicated, ready to help the student in office hour. But if you are not high-level student, plz do not take this class (It is prepared for Top student in UBC!)
I've had Noriko for 3 classes. ECON 101 was pretty easy, 204 was hard, and 308 was brutal. Class average was around 65 in 101, and 60 in 204 and 308. Noriko lectures and communicates well. However, her finals are always too hard and she can be very disrespectful to students. Overall, I would take micro with another prof if you can.
No electronics aloud. Not respectful to students. Write down her examples - All of them. She takes the myeconlab questions and rephrases those for her midterm multiple choice.
She is god at teaching but the lectures are very boring. Tough Grader
I know Noriko has a bad rep for being harsh but she is not that bad. I was so nervous for her class going in and she ended up being my favourite prof. Her tests can be tricky bc the written examples require you to integrate different topics (MC is piece of cake tho) so attend SL, do the hw, and don't procrastinate studying and you'll be just fine!
Shes rude and get's fed up right away with questions students ask. It's sad that she's the only Econ 204 teacher for this semester or else I would've chosen another prof. Shes BAD. I hope everyone for fall 2020 to pass this class! You do more work teaching yourself than her.
The only way I survived this class was through the MyEconLab HW + quizzes. Her exams were brutal, so try and do well in MyEconLab. Attend every class + take down all notes and practice questions cos her exams follow the same format as the practice questions. Can be rude to students and has a no electronics policy which she's pretty strict about.
Her online lectures/notes were just plain awful. She read comletely from her lecture slides and didn't explain anything beyond what was written. Tests were hard and no study material was given. She clearly cannot teach and being online is just making it worse. Avoid at all costs.
She's the worst. idk how she's still employed. PLZ PLZ PZL don't take her class
Noriko is a professor who really cares about her students. She is a really good instructor. It is true, however, that if you ask her a dumb question, she will humiliate you. Nonetheless, she is really passionate about Economics and she enjoys teaching students who want to learn.
good course but hard
Tough grader, very lecture intensive - WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING IN AS MUCH DETAIL AS YOU CAN. Doing well on MT1 and MT2 is the key to this class - finals are extremely hard. Go to her office hours more than 3x and show her that you are interested and are putting the work in. This class is no joke and possibly the hardest ECON class at UBCO.
Terrible professor, unprofessional, unclear expectations, no sympathy for students. completely unfit to be a teacher. the class is easy, but this prof was the worst I've ever had in my 4 year undergrad
Dr. Ozawa is super knowledgeable, hard working and caring. Shes very passionate about teaching economics and you can tell she truly wants everyone to do well if theyre willing to put in the effort. Youll learn a lot in her courses!
she is good at teaching
Professor Ozawa was bad. She discourages questions in class and often makes you feel stupid if you do ask a question. She moves pretty fast and has an intimidating and unapproachable personality. She is a tough grader and her exams are the hardest (it's like she wants her students to fail). I would recommend everyone to not take her class.
I had Noriko three years ago and I'm still salty about it. In my 4 year undergrad, She is THE WORST prof at UBCO
I found Noriko very difficult to understand and she is a tough grader. I would not recommend taking her class unless you absolutely have to.
This class is super easy and only reason why she doesnt get 1 star. Explanations are good? Idk probably just cause course material is common sense and gr10 math. Her Hw is really annoying, takes time and glitchy. She seems really arrogant and power trips often. Kinda rude and not the best english. tests and homework is fair. Easy gpa booster
Professor Noriko is by far the hardest-working professor at her institution. She cares about her students and is only challenging because she wants students to learn. She and her TAs provided me with very valuable help when I needed it. In the end, if you respect her and work hard, she will respect you and do a lot in your learning.
Noriko's class is so boring. She will not let you use a laptop because she gets distracted by the clicking. She provides zero feedback on assignments. She will make you seem stupid for asking questions in her lectures. The tutorials sort of help. Constant spelling errors in assignments and midterms. Avoid her class if at all possible.
just no...
don't take her unless you want to ruin your mental health even more..
Not a very nice teacher. Rude to students and does not care for the best interests of her class to succeed. DO NOT take this class with her if you don't need. No computers are allowed must take handwritten notes in lectures at a very fast pace. Iclicker is mandatory worth 15 percent grade, more than the actual quizzes which is only worth 10.
If at all possible, NEVER take this course. Avoid this professor. She is incredibly hard to understand and speaks at the speed of light. She doesn't allow computers, everything is handwritten. Students who are brave enough to ask questions get ridiculed and embarrassed. Incredibly rude and condescending in person and over email. DO NOT TAKE.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Her slides do not match the ones on canvas so it's really hard to understand the material by yourself if you missed a class. I learned more from youtube videos than this prof. If you have to take this class, be prepared to do ALL the learning by yourself and expect low class averages on midterms. iClicker will be your enemy. TAs are clueless.
she is a really difficult prof who does not care about students at all.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. If you have more than 2 grams of self respect, don't even think about taking her class. A waste of time with a narcissistic teacher, who degraded her students and left them feeling inferior
She is a hard but fair grader. You have to work for your grade; if you do all possible practice problems (hers, textbook's, assignment's) you will do fine. She or her TA's were accessible outside of class and wanted to help. Her only downfall was that she was often harsh when answering questions, scaring most from asking questions for the term.
Do not take any course with Noriko, the absolute worst professor ever. Save your money, time and mental health, coming from a 4th year who has done econ204 and econ401 with noriko. Very rude and not helpful prof, makes fun of students and she is unable to deliver her lectures in a clear constructed manner.
She is a good teacher but for the sake of your GPA/average switch classes, you will pass the other class, just not hers
She is very quiet when talking but would scream if anyone is trying to talk with others to try to understand her, her quizzes are impossible, and not enough practice questions for mid-terms and finals.
Do not ever take a class with this professor, you will fail the class, she does not know how to teach and gives no useful learning materials after her lectures.
do not take her classes
If you do every practice question and go in for office hours to get clarification on material you will do fine. Exams have low averages and are tough but if you go to lectures and do the practice you'll be successful. Noriko can be hard to understand at times, but the material she covers is very relevant and sets you up for future success in econ
one of the worst course I've taken so far
Have you ever wanted to meet Helen Keller? if so, take this class and meet her for yourself. You will not be heard, seen, nor will she communicate with you. Does not answer questions, and when she does it's with sass, agression and annoyance. Tough grader, extremely long hard exams, and proceeds to blame her alchololism on our class average. Enjoy!
In our final review session she laughed at every person who asked a question. When someone asked for clarification on her illegible handwriting, she told them to use their math and tapped her head mockingly. During the question period at the end, she left the building because she didn't like the content focused questions people were asking.
Extremely rude and belittling when students ask questions. In the review session made students feel embarrassed and incompetent in front of their peers, even asking the names of the students who asked questions and then proceeded to call the class nasty. Do not take a class with her if you want clarification on anything.
This was the most discouraging classroom environment I've experienced. The instructor mocked students for asking questions, making participation feel humiliating. The exams were extremely long and overly difficult for the time given. I would strongly recommend avoiding this instructor if you value a respectful and supportive learning environment.
Disappointing, to say the least. Questions were often met with ridicule rather than answers, which made participation feel like public humiliation. Her handwriting is an ongoing mystery, and despite working through problems in class, solutions are never posted—apparently deciphering them is part of the learning experience :)
worst professor ever , very disrespectful and rude, save yourself and DONT take any of her classes
never taking a class with her ever .
