Makes class interesting and fun
Excellent professor. Willing to help students out in any possible way to be successful. Very encouraging.
He's the reason I'm an accounting major!

He turned me off of accounting. I realized how boring it was.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!! GO COLTER!!
He is the sole reason I never want to take an accounting class again. Very arrogant, unclear, and unwilling to help his students. Looks down on students who know little about accounting to begin the class. Don't we go to class to learn?
Very unwilling to help those who are having trouble with the class. And if I have to hear how the Lakers are the best team one more time...
Goes through material too fast, doesnt tell you what you are going to be tested over, just broad infromation.
this class is hard but if you do well on the homework and and the group project, you'll be fine. the tests suck though.
Somewhat knowledgable about the subject, but confined to his own views which, frankly, aren't very sophisticated.
He made me want to be an accountant.
he is awsome
very hard class, very good teacher. i feel like an idiot when i sit down to take a test, colter is cool though.

Great teacher!! He knows what he's talking about and will walk you through lots of examples and the homework. If you do the work and pay attention in class you will do a good job! His tests can be difficult, but he gives good reviews.

This guy was lazy and unprofessional. The class was not that hard but he was not helpful. He never had time to review for the test but usually let us out 20-30 minutes early (pissed me off). He will hit on the cute girls in the class and go off on random tangents. You have to take this class, so just get through it. Get points and EC early.
He really knows his stuff and is willing to go the extra mile to help those who want it. His class is very hard but fun and passable. Just keep up with the h/w and study hard.
He really knows his stuff and is willing to do anything to help you. As long as you try he'll help you with anything. Always do the homework and quizzes because they are very similar to test questions. His class is way hard but if you keep up with the work it's fairly manageable.
The class isn't impossible. It is just doing lots of HW problems (just like math). Just do the quizzes and HW, and practice, practice, practice. The exams are moderately difficult. It's a bit confusing in the manner in which he takes off points in the exam problems. Colter is truly knowledgeable, but is quite stern, and may appear rude to some.
EGO. Spends more time talking about how hard the class is than actually teaching the material. He can be a nice guy some days, but, id rather have a mean teacher who teaches me the info than a fun guy who cant teach.
Such an amazing class! Colter may seem intimidating at first, but don't fret, he's an amazing teacher and will help you with anything you are struggling with. Not going to lie, this class is a bit of a struggle. I ended up with an A+, but it's the hardest A+ I've ever worked for.
He is an amazing teacher. He explains everything very well and uses his experience to connect with students. He is really funny and takes the time to learn his students' names and help them out. All in all a totally amazing class.
Colter is one of the best professors I've had! He's always willing to help those who put forth the effort. I highly recommend his class!
Great professor, very knowledgable of his material. Encourages students to think on their own and interact in class.
extremely helpful professor. he makes this class fun, but the tests are freaking hard!
Excellent Teacher. Tells you what to study prior to exam gives you hints throughout the semester as to what is going to be on exam. Just take good notes and study hard
Colter is very helpful and extremely clear on what he expects from you. He made the class very enjoyable. Do ALL the homework and you'll be fine.
Professor Colter was extremely intimidating. He was always talking about how hard the class and exams were going to be rather than teaching the actual class. Although, he did very well at explaining the material. He seemed to hit on the girls sometimes. This class is passable. Just make sure to stay on top of the intense material.
He was an okay prof, def knew what he was talking about but sometimes difficult to get in contact with outside of class. HW and Quizzes are a MUST do to pass, he also takes attendence randomly and i almost got dropped even though i when i had missed twice. The tests were hard especially the first one so make sure to prepare. I ended up with a B.
You have to bring your book everyday. He is very intimidating, and isn't scared to kick you out of class for not paying attention. I suggest taking the class on Tuesday and Thursday so you can talk to the students who took the tests before you on Monday or Wednesday. Do every online assignment to pass! Don't take a math class the same semester
From reading the other positive comments they must have come from females. He loves the ladies and they are the only people he helps out. He's probably one of the worst teachers at UNM. We need more teachers like Alistair if you want people to enjoy accounting. So overall I don't recommend taking his class usless you're a female.
I thought he was an alright teacher...I feel like I could have learned more but since he is a professional at what he does, it seems hard to be taught at the level of his students. And the exams are extremely hard and tricky...
The class requires a lot of work, but Colter is very proficient at explaining the material.. He definitely is a little full of himself, and is much nicer to the females. However, I learned a lot, and he rewards hard work..
202 is a tough class and everyone complaining he's a bad teacher just didn't put enough time into learning the material. He's a great teacher and explains things well, you just have to be willing to pay attention and do the homework. It will pay off in the end, accounting is an important foundation to have and Colter prepares his students well.
Coltur must have wrote all these reviews because they are far from the truth ... tried to intimidate people rather than teaching the material... overall a terrible teacher and class.. wouldn't have taken 202 if it wasn't necesary for the business school
Prof. Colter willing to help those who help themselves. Was extremely hard (1st ACCT class and I tried to cram into summer session). You will know the material when you exit, but be prepared to read you tail off.
Really enjoyed Colter's class. The work was hard, but he did a very good job making sure everyone understood it. Great sense of humor, too.
Gotta Love Colter!!
I liked Professor Colter. He is easy-going and approachable. If you put the effort into the class you will be rewarded. Do the homework in the book and online even though the book homework isn't required. It will pay off and you will get an A.
Colter's class is a bit challenging. In order to get a passing grade a good amount of work must be put in. As a professor, Colter is very knowledgeable and helps the class out. Don't be too afraid to shout out questions that you have as intimidating as he might seem. If you're a lazy person I suggest not taking this class.
Excellent teacher. In class quizzes&exercises, online hmwk, 4 exams. Colter is great at explaining acctg and making it interesting. If you are having trouble- GO to his office hrs or the acctg lab!!! Do the optional written hmwk until you can do it w/o looking. This is a difficult class so expect to spend a lot of time studying and doing hmwk.
Instructor was great and went out of his way to assist those who were willing to put forth an effort. I highly recommend others to take this class.
The class is really just plain hard with any professor. Colter is a very smart guy but went a little to fast for me at times. A warning: the entire book needs to be red and in my case I also used the online videos to pass this class. It is not easy and expect to spend a lot of time studying. If your committed Colter is a fine teacher.
This class was hard! He does not keep attendance, but you better be in class if you want to pass. He has 4 inclass assignments, 4 exams (none dropped) and online homework for every chapter due every friday. I missed a couple of online homeworks and was failing with 3 weeks left of class. He really helped to pass. I wound up with a B! Thanks!!
If you must take Accounting 202, I suggest you take it with Professor Colter. He does make the class interesting by sharing some of his personal life stories and knowledge from working as an auditor. I won't lie that there is a lot of work in this class and you must read the book and keep up with the work but come to class and he's very helpful.
Colter is a wonderful teacher, easy to understand and actually makes accounting kinda fun! Can be a jerk at times just to show he has the upper hand. It's a hard class but an A is possible if you read every chapter, do all the homework and quizzes until you get 100!! Seriously, it might save you!
He's really helpful. The material isn't ridiculously hard but make sure to show up to class and do the homework
Great teacher, 4 week class in the summer. Hard work but do the HW and study your Hw and you will do great. If you are going into Accounting you need Colter to start out on the right foot.
If you have to take Accounting you have to take it with Colter. A topic that might be dry for some students gets spiced up with Colter's jokes and life stories. Colter know how to teach accounting. A+ teacher
Do the homework, read the textbook, and go to class. If you do these three things you will pass and get an A. Don't let him intimidate you, it's not that hard.
This class has SO much work and a lot of information, however, Prof. Colter is amazing. He has a great sense of humor and loves it when his students ask questions. If you have to take 202 take it with Colter at least he's funny and nice even with dry material.
Tests are extremely hard and he doesn't give a good review towards them. But other than that he has an awesome format for his class. Easy going guy and if you do good in the class you don't even have to take the final. He's an old school teacher which is nice, he's not going to nag you about coming to class. I would recommend taking his class.
Very good professor, he really does explain everything well and goes over a lot in class. You do need to make sure to read the chapters, do the problems, and online work. Make sure to try and get 5's on the quizzes because it will help in the end. This was an excellent class, really enjoyed it.
Overall, good professor. Very engaging, easy on the eyes too
This class was the hardest I took at UNM. The tests were ridiculously hard, and made you have to really think about the material. Mr. Colter is so incredibly helpful though, and is willing to work with you on issues you're having. Attendance and homework are big in this class, it's a lot of work, but worth it.
Great teacher, really helpful. Make sure not to miss a class, though, he does new material almost everyday.
Colter is very engaging! He has a great understanding and willingness to help his students. The level of difficulty was harder than I had anticipated, however if you keep up with the homework, you should be fine in the course. Make you get get 5's on ALL the quizzes and homework, you'll be thankful in the end!
MGMT 202 is not very easy to begin with, however, if you take it with Colter he will definitely explain it in a better way as compared to the other professors that teach this course. This class requires alot of work, there is no room for slacking, but if you keep up with the work and understand the material you will do fine in his class.
Overall the material for this management class is tough but if you put in the work, it'll pay off. i HIGHLY recommend taking this class with Colter, he's very easy going and will go out of his way to help you out if you're struggling. Has a sense of humor and tries to make the class as interesting as possible.
Reading the book is mandatory. He takes points off of tests for small errors so watch out for the small stuff. He is funny and very engaging. Would recommend him.
His class got me into Accounting!!
I was very interested in information systems prior to taking this class and found Prof. Colter to have little to no professional experience or real knowledge of the material. Prof. Colter would rather have the class be easy with no benefit to the student than actually know what he is talking about. His personal life got in the way of the class.
A lot of material covered in class, and he does not explain things well at all and is rude/abrupt to students. Half the students ended up dropping the class. I would never recommend him to anyone.
He is an excellent professor very helpful had him in 202 and was very pleased to be in class again in 449. we had great semester lot of material in this class but he made it very interesting.
I wouldn't recommend him. The exams are HARD and this class specifically made me not want to focus on accounting. He always says he gives you the info for exams, but when 1/2 of the students fail, it shows you that there's a problem with the teacher. If the majority of students fail(which happens in his class) he will say they didn't study.
There is a lot of material covered in this course, but if you keep up with the reading, homework, and quizzes you will be fine. He is a good professor and treats the class very much like a college class should be. He goes fast, but will answer any questions if need be. Study for exams by going back over chapters and do the problems multiple times.
I disagree with the person below. I've attended every class and kept up with the assignments and I'm really struggling in the class. He is rude and abrupt with students and constantly says "IT SAYS IT VERY CLEARLY..." as if we are idiots who just miss important information. He doesn't want to help students.
He is extremely rude to students and this course completely turned me off of having a career in accounting. It's a shame because I wanted to major in accounting, but I don't have a strong foundation after taking his class. Terrible teacher
I wouldn't recommend him. I've had a terrible semester despite keeping up with all of the homework and coming to class.
I wouldn't recommend taking this course. I found the tests extremely challenging even though I kept up with all assignments.
I thought he was a terrible teacher. I wanted to major in accounting, but this class ruined it for me.
Worst Professor at UNM. The material is already difficult, but Colter doesn't teach. He expected you to magically get the material by reading the text book. He was condescending and rude and does not run his class in a helpful or productive way in order for you to fully understand the material. Take this with another professor!
Worst teacher I've ever had in college. He was so rude when I asked questions and it was obvious he didn't want to help students. Definitely don't take his class!!!
This is the most difficult class I have ever taken at UNM. Keep up with all of the homework, quizzes, notes and you should do fine on the exams. You will learn a lot in this class.
Worst teacher ever. He can kiss my Because of this teacher I had to wait a whole semester to retake. the class is very hard with little step by step instruction worst teach ever my advice take it at CNM not here .
Hardest class i have ever taken at UNM, but best professor to take MGMT 202 at UNM With. I took this class during summer session and it was intense. It's 16 weeks of info taught in 4. I studied on average 20 hours a week for this class.. it was hard work and high stress but it pays off.
This Prof provides you with everything that you need to do well in the course. I recommend visiting him during his office hours, reading the book, and visiting the tutor lab.
He is a terrible teacher and extremely rude to students when they ask a question. I highly recommend taking this class at CNM or with another instructor.
Professor Colter is a must take professor. The material is tough but he gives you all the information you need for the tests. Also, go to his office hours and ask question. Great professor and funny. He does want you to do well in his course.
He made this class miserable and was rude to so many students when they asked questions. He puts information on his exams that we never covered in class. For example, he will pick a random sentence from the book that wasn't emphasized and say "well if you would have read, you would have known the answer". Not everybody remembers every word!
This class is very hard and would not recommend with a full schedule. Prof Norm is rude and I feel he doesn't want his class to succeed. Read each chapter at least times if you want pass. Sorry bussiness students but this is the make it or break it class and you have a better chance passing a 300 level chemistry.
Do every assignment because you will not get a good grade on the tests unless you have no life and can study everyday. Really nice guy though, if you are not getting a good grade talk to him. He is human and he will help you.
You either love him or hate him. I loved him. I had trouble with the material (not because of his teaching but because I flat out didnt get it) but going to his office hours was a huge help. He really took the time to work with me. If you are willing to work hard, take his class. If you are looking for an easy a, I wouldn't recommend it.
MGMT 202 is a tough course, but Colter is very up front with students about his high expectations for students. Lots of homework, studying in addition to class time is necessary, and the tests aren't easy. His method for disciplining can be occasionally condescending and abrasive.
Prof. Colter has a reputation of being tough, but I didn't get that impression from him at all. He covers a lot of material in class. If you show up and pay attention his class should be a piece of cake. The Exams are difficult, but if you are consistent with your homework you will definitely pass.
I took MGT 202 with Colter. It is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken but also one of my favorite. I learned a lot from Professor Colter. Yes, there is a lot of work but what else can you expect from a college course? Stay on top of reading and homework and you'll do great.
Colter is a great professor for such a tough class. The material is pretty dense and there is a lot in cover in just one semester. With that being said, you have to go to every class or you may miss a topic that will never be talked about again and will be on the final.
This is a difficult course. Most of those who complain about Colter failed to put in the work for the material. He is a great teacher the course is not easy. One of the bests teachers I have had at UNM. If you are lazy you will pay for it.
Colter is definitely a great professor. You have to do the homework in order to understand the material, but if you attend every class the homework isn't hard. He explains well and will help you if needed. He thinks he's funny so laugh at his jokes! I hate accounting but I'll have an A thanks to his help. Would take a class with him again.
Don't procrastinate the projects they are really long. He gives you a chance to re-do some things to improve your grade. Very laid back in this class. Awesome teacher, I really recommend Colter for this class.
After hearing things about the difficulty of this course I'll admit I was scared to take it. It's not a class to take lightly. Go every single time, take good notes, and do the reading. Your comprehension of the material is crucial. Colter is one of the best, but he doesn't give handouts. Loved this course even though I had to work so hard.
Despite of the course requirements, Colter is a great person. He is funny and makes class enjoyable. People say it's a difficult class, but as long as you do the hw, some reading before the chapter lesson and study the prior exams, you'll pass. You get out what you put in for this class. I'm excited to have him as a professor again.
I have always been a straight A student, however this has been by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Colter doesn't make it any easier . He is hard to follow in class. I feel like I don't learn anything in class because he goes so fast and because of how much material there is to cover outside of it, I feel like I am never caught up.
Colter is the best professor. The class is boring, he makes up for it.
Professor Colter is one of the best there is at Anderson! This class is a lot of work but you'll walk away knowing a lot! Make sure you have plenty of time to do assignments because they are lengthy! But Colter is always willing to help! Hands down, this is the best class I have taken during my time at Anderson!! Highly recommend this class!
Prof. Colter is a great professor, but has high expectations of his students. Get ready to work hard in this class! Colter gives good notes and lectures but you will need to read the textbook and do a lot of the homework problems to pass. Professor is funny and cares about his students! Good professor to have because he makes most out of material.
There is a TON of work. The most work I have ever done in one class. Exams are tough. He's cool, but good luck. Didn't give me an A+ and I was 1 point away!!!
He is an awesome professor but be ready to do a large amount of projects. One of them takes about 20hrs.
Best professor I have ever had at UNM! Thorough lectures & notes for what is exactly on the test. Hard class but if you work hard you'll do great! I recommend reading the chapters & doing book homework even though you won't get credit for it. If you put in the effort you'll do great! Colter was the best!
