had him for lab and he's a funny funny man
Very nice and helpful. Group Tests. Allows you to re-do lab work. Read chapters.

stopped group tests (as of spring '02). class ave on first test: 52. VERY HARD
hard class, really boring but really works with students to help them
veryhelpful 1 on 1. SO MUCH INFO. Test avgs never above 60.
very knowledgable, but horrible and boring at teaching.

Good one on one but horrible in lecture
Very Boring and hard. He stopped the class tests and made the tests harder.
Horrible in class, not bad one on one, avoid if at all possible
class isnt worth attending at all, speaks in monotone, tests are impossible
No Comments
he's nice but his tests are very hard, and a decent grade is nearly impossible
Nice Guy and very knowlegable of the subject; just does not know how to teach.
read the book until you fully understand it if you want to do well on tests
you have to go to him one-on-one, he knows so much about this course
very nice man, helpful one on one, lecture not worth going have to teach self
worst teacher i have EVER had - smart man but shouldnt teach - hard class
this guy is unbelievable. It is impossible to know everything he'll put on tests
Smart man, but CANNOT teach!! He's helpful one on one! IMPOSSIBLE tests!
worst class i've ever taken, can't teach, isn't curving anymore either..impossib

nice man, bad professor
very hard to understand and the test are impossible
DONT EVER TAKE HIS CLASS, you can study forever and it wont make a difference. The highest class avg so far ( on an exam) is a 59...NO CURVE...absolutely impossible
hard class tests will kill you no matter how much you study! nice guy though but should not teach
Went back to curving final grades but tests are still impossible
Seriously, take this class at home. Its not worth your time!
exams are RIDICULOUS!!! he doesnt teach well...learn nothing!!! GET OUT!!!!
Norm is an AWFUL teacher! I've never had a more boring class where I've learned absolutely nothing. No hope if you haven't taken Anatomy first. Norm is monotone, boring, and really creepy, don't dress up or look nice in his class!
this guy is nice....but what the hell dude. this class is ridiculous. he WANTS people to fail his tests. straigt up style. He actually sat down and told me "i want people to fail my tests. bwa hahaha" [diabolical laughter added for effect].
better in summer than during the year but still ridiculous, don't waste your time studying because you will fail anyways, nicest man in the world though, so willing to help, very dry sense of humor though
I really liked his sense of humor. The class is ridiculously hard. Summer session is better. Very willing to help, but very tough on the gpa
Class is hard but he is willing to help if you ask questions and see him during office hours. Make sure you read the book instead of going over your notes for tests b/c it helps. Very good lab teacher but very boring in lecture
This is a hard class, BUT it is possible to get a good grade if you STUDY alot before the tests, go to every class and expect to have to do a decent amount of work. Also you should miss no more than 2 classes because you can get extra points for attendanc
not a bad teacher if you go to his office, real nice guy, just dont waste your time going to class.....if you READ THE BOOK youll pass, the test is 100% book material
Get out right away. Very hard class and impossible to get good grades on tests. Get ready to do a lot of reading and work.
Let's face it... the course is impossible. He's very boring but also very understanding, and if you go to his office he will give you answers, especially lab answers. Nice guy, not a great teacher, but I learned soo much.
Not as bad as everyone says... it just just a HARD course. Most important advice: keep up with the reading in the book. Go to him for help.
Difficult course, lectures are pointless but takes attendance. Learned everything on my own. Tests extremely hard. Keep up with reading!!
HARD CLASS...but he is a really nice guy...sucks that his class is so hard. Class averages are low, but just stay around the average and lab will bring you up!
Advanced quantum physics is easier than this class. The tests are super tough and the grade you recieve in class will beat your gpa like a red headed stepchild.
impossible, but lab will save you. no need to listen in class but go cuz it's free points added to your grade. do the chapter goals on the ppt, read and you'll be ok. get to know him and he's a cool guy. go to office and he'll help you with everything.
Classes are pointless to attend, information comes from the book for tests. Tests look like the MCAT's and are impossible! Labs and attendance help bring up your grade. Go to office, he will help and he really is a nice man, just a terrible professor!
very nice man but above his students and cannot teach to our level. awful class, hard, but definitly possible to pass as long as you keep up with it. sometimes it doesn't always work out though. make sure you read because the lectures are pointless.
extremely hard class. most of the time we just did the breeze crosswords during lectures. come to class for extra credit at the end of the semester and do well in lab and you should be ok
class average on the open book/open notes final was a 56. rough class but nice guy.
If you can, take him for 370 lab. Very easy grader, sweet guy, really wants you to understand what's going on in lab.
True, this class is tough. Doesn't seem to hard in lecture, but tests are VERY tricky - low class average. But he curves at the end and if you have about the average and do well in lab, you're golden. He is SUCH a nice guy, SO willing to help. Lab is easy too. Don't be afraid - take him!
He's a nice guy that makes mean tests I studied my butt off for my first test to get a 48--gave up hope on my second for a 44. Hmmm...averages for the tests are very very low but he curves. Major work for lab and lecture together so if you're a very very busy person this class will beat your fanny.

Class is difficult, with class averages around 55's for every test. BUT as long as you are above the average you WILL pass the course with a C. Lab and class activites are very easy and help your grade.
Some words of advice:1)Definitely GO to SI sessions, they help you with being able to keep up since he flys through the material 2)For the test, study the SI sheets, and diagrams in the book 3)Work your ass off in lab and re-do anything you dont get 100 on,this will boost your grade in the end.
He sucks. Insane tests. Boring lectures. If you're lucky, the SI won't suck as much. I did all the things the people above said and still couldn't get my C.
Really hard class. He's really nice though and if you go to him for help, he'll help you. Just make sure to do well in the labs and stay with the class average and GO TO CLASS for extra credit, and you'll be okay.
Very hard class. Lots of notes so get the supplemental booklet and study forever. Not fun at all, but fairly interesting.
It's all been said. He doesn't teach, he's been here too long...needs to retire...study...work hard....go to class...pray...
this class was hard. his lecture slides are just pictures from the book. he is a really nice guy and does help if you go to him with questions. *definately* use the SI sheets to study. it's a lot but everything that was on the test was mentioned in the SI sheets. easier if you took anatomy first.
might as well not go to class ever because you have to teach yourself everything. nice guy. bad prof.
Very hard course, Not a very good teacher...basically you have to teach yourself. Studied about 50 hours (seriously) for each test...got an A-
Dr. Garrison is a great teacher. Def take him in may session, he loves teaching smaller classes. He was helpful in lab too. If you have questions, he will pretty much give you the answers. He is so sweet and so nice and tells really corny jokes. I took this class in may session and got an A!
Human phys is hard enough, but his lecture tests are miserable. You've really got to study your butt off. He is so nice though and his lab is easy as anything, a very easy A. He is helpful and a nice guy, but his lecture tests will absolutely kill you.
Take SUMMER. Definitely a little easier because it's all you're focused on. Studied my butt off with lab group (hardcore a couple days in a row before tests). Never read except for basics regarding specific topics. Practiced with study guides in back of textbook. Hard tests, but he curves. I got a B-.
Completely ineffective as a teacher. Thinks showing illustrations from book will teach us how the body works. Class averages are in the low 50s, so most of us are banking on his curve, which you find out if you got at the end of the semester. Good luck.
I love this guy. He's so sweet and tells corny jokes but you just have to laugh. He's very helpful and knows his stuff! His tests are really hard, but if you study a lot you can get above the class average, which he curves at the end so the class average overall will be a 75 so as long as you're above the average on tests you will get at least a C.
The problem with Garrison is that he does not distinguish important concepts and details from unnecessary ones. Ask lots of questions to gain a better idea of what to focus on--he teaches only through diagrams and his tests are all words, so the switch makes information conversion hard. Work on verbally explaining concepts to yourself.
This teacher is about average, he's really nice and will help you if you ask. He's one of few teachers that will actually answer your questions instead of trying to avoid them. His grading scheme is hard to understand and very random. overall, he can be somewhat boring during lectures but he grades modestly and wants to help students in need. good
very unclear, UNREASONABLE tests, acts like he tries to help but really doesn't... needs to retire.. DONT TAKE AT JMU
He sucks as a teacher...no doubt about that, but I got an A by reading and taking detailed notes on the book and even more detailed notes on what he says in class in addition to his ppt's. DONT MISS CLASS...his curve depends on your attendence. If you're not an idiot who thinks nursing is an easy major, you'll do fine.
I signed up for this despite what I heard thinking that I could handle a hard class. This class is seriously unreasonable - if you are a nursing major that is one thing, but you WILL regret taking it as a gen ed. Just attend class and aim above the curve on tests. Class average on test 1 was a 40 and he said that was better than expected. CRAZY!
Physiology is a hard class no matter who you take it from. Garrison is a great guy and really wants you to suceed. Take advantage of office hours, he really wants to help you! Open to new creative teaching methods that will help his students. Students make the questions for the tests.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE... not only are his tests ridiculous, but he thinks that "teaching" consists of pulling out each of the pictures from the textbook and explaining them in detail..which makes class IMPOSSIBLE for people who are NOT visual learners! I would NEVER take him again!
AWFUL. WRETCHED. DEATH. DO NOT TAKE HIM HE'S AWFUL. makes no sense whatsoever and his tests are ridiculous! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Let's see- the avg. for our 1st test= 41. This was 3-5% better than expected, so i guess we're expected to fail. Lab & lecture barely skim each other and lecture moves really fast. Read the book, do the study guides, sign the attendance sheet and hope for the best. Garrison is willing to help, but he can't teach everything during his office hours.
Do. Not. Take. He talks to you like you already know the material, and expects to you read a HUGE book outside of class. The first test average was a 40, and that was above expected-how horrible! AVOID! He likes to go on tangents, too!
very hard class. tests are impossible. count on lab grades to help bring up class grades. class averages for test this year have been in the 40s and 50s. Don't take.
Avoid this teacher at all cost! Even if you can stay awake in class, you are still going to fail. You have to teach everything to yourself. Even if you think you know the information, the way he has the tests makes it impossible. I never learned anything in his class this year expect how to guess on his tests. Save yourself the headaches.

DON'T TAKE. The tests are absolutely impossible, no matter how much you study you will still fail them. The class average on an open book test was a 56. Good luck with lab too, it's supposed to help your grade but it's almost as hard as lecture.
He gave em a reason to wake up for an 8:00 am. Nice guy. Lab is hard though.
I took Garrison in May and thought he was the nicest guy. I took only one class so i had time to read the text book. I think that really made the tests easier. The tests can be hard, but not the teacher. He is incredibly nice, caring, and truly wants his students to do well. I highly recommend him (if you have time to read the book.) :)
I really don't know why everybody hates Garrison. I was terrified when I found out he was my Lab teacher for Physiology. Garrison is also probably one of the nicest teachers i've ever had, he genuinely cares about you and your grade, and will give you extensions for anyting as well as extra help and allows redo's for the labs if you just ask.
Had him for animal phys. I didnt go to class the last two months of the semester, just read the book the day before the exams and got C pretty easily. Hes a real nice guy and this is a pretty easy class
sweet, caring and a lot of fun-Take the summer course if you can-a lot easier-Hard subject, but I appreciate him more after taking upper level classes-Teaches concepts, tests on applications-You will know human phys when you leave this class unless you don't study at all-Ask for help & you get it-goes out of way to help-good prep for nursing tests
kind & caring, really brilliant man-probably the most intelligent person i've ever met. if one reads first, one will understand the concepts. lots of interesting stuff in lab. always willing to help out, stays after hours to help, reschedules tests, REALLY CARES!! I think the man walks on water. If you don't want to learn, then take another course!
Nice guy, lectures are a bit slow but full of hilarious dirty comments. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! If you go once a week, especially before tests, he will quiz you and assist you greatly.
The nicest man, very sweet, I had him for lab and lecture and he was always helpful if I had questions. I did horribly on the tests, even with studying, reading, asking questions, and filling out the study guides. Very conceptual class, applies step by step concepts on tests. I definately learned physiology but didn't get the grade I wanted.
Avoid this professor at all costs. I read about how bad he was on rate my professor last year and thought I would be fine if I studied. I studied my butt of for all of the tests, did all the study guides and outlines the book...which did not help because the tests were impossible. The average tests scores were D's or lower.
worst class ever. studying hardly helps at all. tests are impossible. little extra assignments are graded hard too so they don't bring your grade up. class averages were d's and f's and he DOESN'T CURVE ANYMORE so ignore anything you hear about a curve. the other teacher has averages of 89, so take her.
horrible teacher. refused to curve the grades when the class averages on the tests were d's and F's and not one single student got an A on the test. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He was really unhelpful. I studied so hard for every test, and never got better than a C or D. He really isn't a good prof. He's probably not going to be allowed to teach this class anymore, because if the average isn't a passing grade he goes on probation... AGAIN! take someone else if you can. seriously, I never took this site seriously till now
Lecture NO. Lab YES. He'll walk you by the hand through the lab reports at office hours and pretty much give you the answers. DO NOT GET HIM FOR LECTURE (he's an awful lecturer).
Powerpoints are on blackboard, but not too much help. They are the same pictures shown in the textbook and he goes through a lot of slides in each lecture. He moves fast, does not repeat himself, and is confusing. I would not take his lecture again. The book is useful and his office hours he does try to help, but it does not work that well.
The average on the first test - 71. Second test - 70. Third test - 57. He is one of the worst professors ive ever had here. I studied my butt off for all these and i got 2 Ds and 1 C. havent taken the final yet, but at this point why study? powerpoints useless, book useless, i have no idea where he gets the questions. horrible.
I would really like to tell you that he's not as bad as you've heard, but he really is. If you go to all of his office hours you might be able to pull a good grade in the class. I studied hard core for two weeks for his third test and got a 60. I felt like I could recite the book to you and got a D-. He's a very nice man but horrible teacher.
Do not take Garrison. I repeat: DO NOT TAKE GARRISON. For each test I made 14 pg. study guides and I still only got C's on the tests. The class average was always below failing and he does not curve (EVER)! His personality overall is a really nice guy though. But do not expect to make it out of the class with anything higher then a C.
Anyone who doesn't like this man is just plain mean. He's a cute old man whose jokes are a sweet attempt to keep class interesting. But to me class IS interesting, however it is a hard subject altogether. I didn't find the tests all that hard but I was used to it because I'm a Bio major and most people aren't. I would take this teacher!!
anybody who got below a B- in this class and is complaining did not study enough. This course requires very detailed studyign and thorough understanding of all subjects. You cannot be lazy in this class. Don't blame the professor it's your responsibility!
He just recently edited all his old tests to make them easier. this can be hard but anyone who is a bio major or has taken other bio classes knows these classes can be tricky. study alot go to class and take good notes. he can be boring but goes by the book so you can teach yourself if you miss a couple days. take him for lab too if you can.
worst. professor. ever. exams=impossible. although over half the class fails the exams he refuses to curve grades or give extra credit. classes are intolerably boring and you learn absolutely nothing, you have to teach yourself everything. you think you know everything but then the exams slap you in the face.
He's a very nice man. His classes are a little boring but he is very passionate about the subject. He is very helpful if you go to his office and is always willing to look over assignments and tells you what to change beore turning them in. If you get confused, read the book it helps A LOT. His class requires a lot of studying which is expected
From what I have observed you have to be naturally gifted in biology to do well in this class. No matter how much I studied I still got a C or lower on all of his tests. Make sure you have a good lab group because that is VERY important. You will be spending your life with them.
Run now! I would study for weeks and I couldn't do better than a C- on his tests. Class is very boring and power point slides only have pictures on them. Read the book and memorize it. That will help.He is not bad for lab, HORRIBLE for lecture!
I strongly suggest you do this class during Maymester. It is a lot to absorb in 4 weeks but the class is small and it is easier to focus on just one class. During the school year it can be too overwhelming (with all the work you do in lab and how much time you will need reading the textbook).
I studied my butt off all semester for this class and ended with a C-. Norm makes everything nearly impossible and is one of the most unclear professors I had ever had. He is old and doesnt seem like he cares if students succeed any longer.
Run now!
Not a terrible professor. Definitely one to take for lecture. All you have to do is the study guides provided and you'll do fine on the tests! Do not get him for lab! Grades WAY to strict on things that should not matter (I.e. colored graphs). Overall, manageable class. Easy B.
This is a pretty tough class. You have to work outside of class in order to do well, because he isn't that clear in lecture. He is very nice though, and willing to help in office hour and will explain the material until you get it. And he will move test dates and worksheets if the class votes on it.
Garrison is hilarious and a really nice guy. His problem is that he's so smart that he doesn't know how to dumb the information down for undergrad students. I never learned from lectures and taught myself everything from the text. Test are pretty detailed also. Try to get a different professor if you can!
Everyone is crazy, he is such a nice man!He reminds me of a nice old grandpa! he helps out so much in office hours and will help you a lot on the labs. His test are straight of the PPTs he puts up in class so you know exactly what to study for. Just study diligently and you will get at least a B. Go for it!
People really shouldn't be so harsh. He is such a nice and sweet old man and is so willing to help if you just ASK HIM the things you don't understand. Yes, his tests are hard but not unbearable - i crammed the night before every time and the lowest I got was a 70. If you don't expect to work hard, you shouldn't be in college.
Key to Garrison's class: OFFICE HOURS. Seriously, you cannot learn this stuff from him in lecture. Quote: "I present the material in lecture, but I teach it in office hours." He seems very unclear and dry in lecture, but he's so relaxed in his office, and will take as much time as you need to explain everything. Get him for lab too if you can.
Garrison really does work best with smaller class sizes. He is great in lab. I took my lab reports to him every single week and had him explain every little thing I was confused on, and my group got A's on every one. He is a fun professor who loves teaching his favorite subject to his students.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Obviously this is a difficult class to begin with but the way he presents material is unclear and not helpful in the least bit. Definitely do not take!
One of the NICEST professors I have ever had! His class is hard, but he will help you out SO much if you go to his office hours. I had him for both lab and lecture. My group took our lab reports to his office hours every week and we got A's on all of them. PLUS he writes the final lab practical so you are very prepared. Not as bad as I expected.
If you have to take physiology avoid Garrison! He's a really nice guy and tries to help in office hours however he is just a terrible professor and makes no sense. I had him for lecture and I started to do better in the class when I stopped going and just read the text book.
Hands down worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't make any sense and only teaches with a little arrow pointing to different parts of a picture. This is the only class I've taken where the textbook is more useful than class time. He also makes even less sense one-on-one in office hours. Do yourself a favor and get a different professor.
Do not take Garrison! He is really smart and genuinely tries to be funny but he is an awful teacher. His power points are just images and charts from the book that he goes over with an annoying little green arrow. He is not helpful when you ask him questions about assignments and is a really tough grader. I had a 4.0 before this course...
Worst professor at JMU! No matter how many hours of work and detail you put into the assignments, he still only gives out 5 out of 20 (MAX!) and when you ask for help he just tells you that everything you did was wrong and he was feeling generous when he gave you a 5. He is awful and doesn't know how to teach. Don't take Garrison!!!
IF YOU DO HAVE HIM READ THIS: for the lecture assignments, go into him and he will give you the exact answer. same for lab if you have him for lab. I failed every test and would still gotten a B- had I done better on the lab/lecture assignments. if i would have gotten 10/10 on every lab/lecture assignment my grade would be 10 pts. higher.
No. Just No. He doesn't make sense - not in lecture nor in his office. Be prepared to teach yourself the majority of the material (especially the most complicated stuff at the end). It really wouldn't be that bad of a class if he could actually teach. Good luck doing well without a tutor and studying all the time.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. worst professor I've ever had at JMU and now I'm switching majors because of him. Truly a nice guy but does not know how to teach to save his life. His average test grade is a 50% but he refuses to curve..
He's a sweet old man! The final was open book, people really need to stop being so harsh. He lets you redo assignments for half credit if you bomb them, and he's always in his office willing to talk. Take him!
The worst professor I've ever had.
I had Garrison for lecture and lab. I stopped attending the lectures because they confused me more, and I did better when I didn't go. Extremely tough grader. Even when we took our lab reports to his office hours and he said they looked good, we often ended up with 510. Doesn't curve even though our practical average was a 49. Nice guy though.
He made the class way harder than it needed to be! He just had surgery so he is very hard to understand and also his powerpoints aren't very clear. I found it more useful to just read the book and take notes rather than go to his lectures and I also had to talk to friends in other classes just to pass his tests. Do not take him!
I seriously love Dr. garrison and want him to be my grandfather but his lectures are awful. I expected the class to be hard but the lectures are no help. I READ the text book and went into office hours for labs and assignments and I made it out with a C-.
Dude youre not getting an A.... like youre not! He is the worlds hardest grader on lab assignments and extremely hard to hear because of his disability. That being said though he is a super nice guy and will take the time to talk and joke with you. Is it worth getting a C in the class? NO
Dr. Garrison teaches an incredibly difficult class, so it is hard to truly help students to the full extent unless they go into office hours. Takes your labs and lecture assignments to his office hours and your grade will significantly improve. This is just a class you have to try your hardest in to get the grade you want.
It's a really, really, hard class. Garrison is a really kind man but he's definitely hard to understand, and the lectures are pretty dry. Put the work in, read your textbook, and ask for help if you need it. If you put the work in, you'll do fine! But it's definitely not a class you can put on the back burner.
Genuinely nice man but an extremely harsh grader (expect 60% and below on a lot of lab assignments). Work really hard if you want a B. A is in the range of the impossible unless you're a slave to this class.
Garrison has good intentions but really is an awful professor. I attended his lectures regularly and didn't learn anything from them. Powerpoints aren't helpful. I understood the material when I read the textbook thoroughly on my own but this is very time intensive. Had to teach myself the whole class, but ended up doing okay.
Garrison was a great lab teacher. He is an extremely harsh grader, but if you go to his office hours he will help you. He wants his students to do well. I went to office hours and showed him all of my lab reports before they were do and had an A on almost all of my labs. Would not recommend for lecture.
Garrison is super sweet, but he's an awful professor and I don't know how anybody passes his class without going to office hours. He's very helpful there, but this class requires an insane amount of time studying. Don't take as a gen ed if it's not for your major. Expect this to be the heaviest class in your schedule.
He is an extremely nice person so it makes it hard to dislike him! I definitely HATED the class. Class average on his 3 exams were D- except for his second exam which was a 71. Final is open notes, but don't expect his questions to come clearly from the notes. I wouldn't recommend him at all for lecture, however he was a very good lab professor.
Garrison is a great guy, but schmoozing will get you no where. He's vague on what he want answers he wants to see on assignments/labs, but if you go into his office hours he's a huge help. Utilize. Office. Hours. Prepare to work for your grade.
I LOVED having Dr. Garrison for lab! I 100% recommend going to office hours! My groups always did that and we got A's on all our lab assignments which boost your grade. He is ALWAYS accessible by email and gets back to you very quickly. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Garrison for lab. He is such a sweet man and wants you to do well.
He is hard to understand in Lecture b/c he is crazy smart. For exams study the summary pages that are at the end of the powerpoints. I figured this out and my exam grades got much better. He lets you redo all lecture assignments. For lab, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS AND YOU WILL GET 10/10 on them. He is very willing to help if you ask for it.
Dr. Garrison is such a sweet man, however, when it comes to teaching his lectures can be difficult to understand. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he has 5 random in class assignments that count towards your grade. Tests cover 7 chapters at a time, so take lots of time to study for his exams. Overall a good teacher, just be prepared to work!
Professor Garrison is the sweetest professor you will ever have. Must read the textbook to understand. He is incredibly helpful during office hours and truly wants you to do well. Lecture is dry but Professor Garrison is the cutest. He is the nicest professor I have had at JMU and recommend taking him if you are willing to put in the work for it.
Garrison is the sweetest man and always very helpful during office hours; however, his class was one of the hardest I've ever taken. His PPs in lecture are strictly pictures with very little info. Get ready to read the textbook because that's the only reason I didn't fail every single one of his tests. But the final is open book and notes.
Dr. Garrison is such a nice man and really does try his best, he just isn't the best professor. But for lab if you go to his office hours he will tell you everything you need to get an A on the labs and assignments. AGAIN, really nice guy just wouldn't recommend him
THIS CLASS IS VERY HARD. if you are stuck with him, here is my advice. Take all your labs/lecture assignments to him you'll get 10/10. During class, jot down on your laptop everything he says. This will help u know what's important to study later. GO TO HIS OFFICE. REVIEW ALL MATERIAL WITH HIM. also, YOUTUBE! must read the book, prepare in advance!
anybody who got below a B- didn't study enough, yes this class is hard as hell. but if you are actually willing to sacrifice some of your time, to at least watch some youtube videos on the material and read the important sections of the book, you can't get lower than a B-. go to his office for labs and assignments and he GIVES u the answers.
GO TO CLASS... even though attendance isn't mandatory, trust me you will need all the 2.5 pt in class activities points. Once I started treating it like an online class (teaching myself everything through reading and youtube videos) I started to do a little better... But was very difficult to understand him and lectures were really hard to follow.
Know this class is going to be extremely hard from the very beginning. Start reading early on and go to his office a lot for labs and for lecture. I basically taught myself the whole class through YouTube and by asking him stuff in my office. This class gave me depression but I managed to do fine???
Hands down THE worst class I have ever taken. Garrison is impossible to understand, and I never knew what to study! Felt lost 100 percent of the time. Lab work and class assignments are do-able but the tests are impossible!!!! This class was just one big migraine
Overall, Garrison is a great and nice guy who loves what he does and it shows. He tries to engage with the class, but there are a lot of students and info to get through. He is a tough grader so definitely go to office hours. Most of the time if you do he will give you the answers he is looking for. Tests are hard so doing well on labs is a must.
This class is hard as is, but Garrison doesn't make it any easier. His powerpoints are straight pictures and he just talks. If you have goof background in Phys you should be fine, otherwise it will be really difficult. The textbook is super long and boring, but reading it and understanding seems to help. Make study guides from the book for exams
