She is quite knowledgeable. She has weekly quizzes, but they're quite manageable.

You must be on top of it in her class. Your grade is mainly the weekly quiz. Alot of reading.

She is very helpful and gives clear, organized lectures. She is good about testing you on what you learn and doesn't get sidetracked in her lectures (like some other teachers). If you read the book and show up in class, you will do well.

I really enjoyed her class! I learned so much from her! She does require you to do a lot on your own, but is very friendly, organized, and knowledgeable. I never felt that I was wasting my time in her class.

She is a very good teacher. She is so good that she almost made me change my major to sociology.If you read the chapters, thoroughly, you'll be fine. Watch out for the critical thinking papers though, don't underestimate them, ask for help.

She is an excellent professor. She makes you work for your grade. I got an A, and a lot of other people in my class got A's too. Come to class, take notes, and you'll do fine in her class.

this class is quiet challenging,and the the professor kept my interest all the time. In order 2 do well you MUST come 2 class, and take copious notes. Do ask 4 help w/ critical thinking questions. Weekly quizes, must read chpts. GR8 Prof!

This woman is the most boring instructer I have ever been taught by. She does not excite her studnets at all. I would say that 90 percent of her students do not pay attention to her and are falling asleep while she is lecturing.BORING BORING BORING

She's awesome! Hard, yes but I learned so much important stuff in this class. She's always willing to help - all you have to do is show up during her office hours. Prof. Barragan is extremely smart and I can't wait to take her Race & Ethnicity course.

Social and Ethnic Minorities. This is a great class if you are a minority or know some (everyone). In order to pass this class attend everyday and read Ch. prior to class. Weekly quizzes are based on lecture and Ch. so read! This little lady may come off a bit condescending but she means well.

I have taken every class that she has taught.She is very passionate about her job and it shows by what she teaches us in class.It's because of her that she movtivated me to volunteer within my community.

You must read the chapter and go to class everytime. There is a quiz every week for every chapter, but the lectures are helpful in understanding the material. You'll be fine if you read and go to class.

She is elevating the standards of academic environment. Take her class, get good grade and you will get an idea what the big universities' teachers are all about.Prepares you for transfer big time.

I am currently at USC and previously at West LA College. Ms. Barragan is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is better than some of the tenored profs at SC. Very friendly. Very smart and you will leave her class with some serious things to think about. Take her.

Must read text book, quiz every week on chapter read. Must write two critical thinking papers. Lectures are boring and dry. Recycles all quiz, midterm and final. Easy if you know someone that has taken the class.

GREAT TEACHER. This class is not easy and you do ALOT of reading but you get a lot out of it.

I love Professor Barragan. Her lectures were always engaging and full of personal insight. As a previous reviewer noted, watch out for those Critical Thinking papers. She grades HARSH on those. If you go to her office hours before one is due, she'll read it and give you suggestions to improve your grade.

She's an alright teacher. Seems like the type that would be very helpful once you got to know her but, I never had the chance to really get to know her and had to drop the class. If you comb through the text book with a fine tooth comb, you'll do fine. I dropped because I had no interest in the subject and was failing.

Read the book and you will be fine. I took her for a course in winter. Read a chapter every day and had to answer 15 multiple choice questions for each chapter. They will be easy if you read the chapter. Very interesting class!

Professor Barragan was very much into what she was teaching. She always found a way to tie things back to her experiences, she tends to rant. For the summer course, both reading and attendance are mandatory, crucial. Quizes and tests are fairly easy if you take notes and pay attention to everything in class. Paper bit more challenging. Overall fun

Barragan knows what she is teaching. U get to know so much in that class, & in my opinion, she made the class interesting. But she is very HARD! Her quizzes are every week & studying is a MUST! U really have to pay attention to every detail she has says. Lets just say if u can take the easy way out, than mayb another prof is best. She still Rocks

Ms.Barragan may come off as a socialist at first because her lectures focus on america's short-comings but she's just honest. Reading and completing the end of chapter quizzes is a MUST to do well on the weekly quizzes. Shes a nice teacher and forces you to use your mind in more then one way. Especially on critical thinking essays.

STUDY.. especially if youre looking towards an "A". most of the grade points come from weekly quizzes. Her lectures are useful but if you dont read the 20-30 pg chapters it comes back to haunt you during the quizzes, midterm, and final (which covers the whole semester). Great teacher though

Great teacher, gives a lot of work, but the work is very informative and you end up learning a lot about welfare for rich, enivironmental problems, deeply looking into health care plans, and much more informative information the news doesn't even tell you. If u don't much about politics, this is a great start!!!!

Professor Barragan is great. She's extremely knowledgeable and you will definitely learn alot from her class. You MUST read the chapters as well as understand them in order to pass the quizzes. The quizzes make up most of your grade. Her lectures help you understand the chapter and she'll answer any questions before the quiz. Great class.

Wonderful professor. Passionate about her subject and imparts her knowledge willingly. Is always available for help, but if you read the chapters and pay attention to her lectures (and participate), you will do fine.

She is an amazing teacher! Taking her class made me want to change my major. She really knows her stuff and has been in the business for a long time. Have you attend class, the lectures really help! And you HAVE to read your chapters. All test questions come straight from there and the lectures. If you can do that, you will get a good grade!!

Professor Barragan is an excellent teacher. Her instructions are comprehensible. She keeps the lectures insteresting and engaging for the students. Much of the lecture is from the textbook, therefore it is very important to read the chapters. If you apply yourself, you can earn an "A" in this course. It's easy peasy!

Great Professor. Took her 001 and 002 sociology classes before transferring. Looking back she prepares you for the type of work at the university level. BTW if you're complaining about the amount of reading now, college isn't for you. Highly recommended if interested in sociology as a major.

Ms.Barragan is a great teacher. This is my second semester taking her and she has been great since the beginning. She is so passionate about what she teaches, and has alot if experience. Midterm was not too hard, but you better study for the final. I would most definitely recommend her!!!

Very through! heavy reading,weekly quiz's about any little big or small concept! which means try to read thoroughly and take NOTES on anything and everything interesting to you and definitions! Notice her style and what she asks that will guide your note taking. Participate and take your time on quiz's, simply mistakes will lower grade. Very Fair.

Professor Barragan is an excellent instructor.She isn't going to hold your hand through the class but she gives you all the information you need. Read the chapters, know the stories at the beginning of each one, do the self tests & you cant fail her quizzes. Final is comprehensive but if you kept up with the reading & quizzes the final will be easy

She is a very clear teacher and states her expectations right from the beginning. She is there to help you and guide you throughout the course. Her knowledge is excellent and I cannot emphasize how great she is as a professor. If you do the work and actually put in the time this class is pretty easy. It's not difficult unless you're a lazy student

She was very eye opening. PEOPLE don't be lazy and READ!! In this class READING + memorizing key terms = A PERIOD. If you are lazy don't take the class. If you are someone who actually puts in effort then this class is a breeze and doesn't involve any critical thinking. There are always going to be below par people rating her "hard"

She's amazing. Anyone who didn't do well didn't attend class. She respects her office hours. Go see her, let her know you care & want the A. I studied my butt off and got a 95%. You will learn SO MUCH. University level professor, great woman.

The summer class was pretty intense but she's always there for those who seek her help. You can always go and review quizzes at her office and most of the quiz questions show up again on the midterm and the final. It is a college class, so all you need to do is college-level work. Her lectures are the most interesting by the way. She gives EC.

I absolutely loved this professor, she knows the material like the back of her hand. Her lectures last the whole class period and expect quizzes every week. If you read the chapters and study the practice quiz- easy B's and A's. She uses a lot of those questions on her quizzes. She really gets you to think and is my favorite teacher.

She is very smart in her subject, probably could recite the whole book. She is hard, but if you want to pass and ask her questions/go to office hours she is more than willing to help you.

I absolutely enjoyed Professor Barragan and her lectures. I took her Race and Ethnic Relations class and I loved it. I never missed class, I did my class work/homework (not much of it), but most of all, I read!!! Her weekly quizzes are entirely on the the book, so yes, YOU MUST READ! I recommend taking her class if you want to learn.

Take sociology with her and your world will make more sense, great experience. Study up though

Professor Barragan is one of the best professors out there. If you guys have problems to read 30 pages a week and take 15 question-quiz once a week, I have news for you: you shouldn't attend college. Also her lectures are very interesting and inspirational. I learned a lot! If you're ready for an adequate amount of work, you'll get an A.

Prof B. is awesome. This is college, everyone should expect to work. There are other sociology professors that will give you an easy A, but you won't learn anything. Barragan also really cares about what is going on. You have to read everything in the book, but the book is an easy read. Take her class so you will become a better person

She has an abundance of knowledge. SUPER talkative. 15 quizzes (1/per week). YOU MUST READ. No HW besides reading and studying and two VERY SMALL essays due throughout the semester. Definitely no surprises clear grading and you will learn new things! Her class is not stressful at all but work for your grade.

Professor Barragan is one of a kind. Her class can be difficult if you don't like to read and skip class, but it's not unreasonable. I learned so many things in this class. She talks really fast. She gives a lot of info so you have to show up and pay attention. This is a great lady and a great teacher. Theres no time for taking notes so do the reading and remeber the terms. Keep your line of communication open and honest. participate in class discussions so that you understand.

Professor Barragan is inspiring. It's rare to find people who care so much. She is just so knowledgable and wants more people to get involved. She will introduce you to things that are mind blowing. Her class was so interesting that I actually read the book cover to cover. I had never done that before. It's a lot of work, but you WILL learn.
