loose structure but interesting guy. very knowledgeable
No Comments
Very intelligent, good sense of humor.
Lacks professionalism, poise and proper verbal conduct.
Lectures are absolute torture....tells way too many stories that have no relevence to material....too many TV references...and pauses too much to grunt etc.
excellent; clear, organized and funny; well read
cutest, sweetest guy ever
very intelligent & well read; helpful
Very brilliant! Really nice!
Really cute prof who tries really hard and cares about the success of his students. Class can get pretty boring, but norman is a fair prof
Such a nice guy. Seems insecure, but hes really caring and understanding. Uses current events to teach... very brilliant, gives all sides of the issue.
Good prof. I like his dry sense of humor.
Great proff. learned alot! hes insecure about his class being boring but is that a bad thing? I too love his dry sense of humour and fairness.
What a guy is Norm...hilarious to listen to as sounds like cross between Kermit the Frog and Mr. Bean. Funny guy...love the golf shirts untucked with the blazer...take a class with him. He's fabulous
Awwww, Norm....I took young offenders with him - he's so sympathetic. Unfortunately, it's clear that he got beat up a lot.
Wow these people clearly can't be talking about this prof. He is one of the worse professors I've had at this school. I believe I was in the first class he taught and he was horrible. Maybe he actually learned how to teach now.
He's so very helpful. He wants you to succeed. He's a hell of a nice guy.
Dubeski, you are the man, funny as hell, nice, helpful and overall he is just a cool guy. Very articulate and seems to love politics
All I have to say about Dubeski is... "ahhh...Think think think..."
What a wonderful prof!
He's okay; not amazing, not bad. He has some funny jokes, mostly about celebrities that were popular in the '90s. He is pretty good at explaning the material, but I have one big problem with him: he always mentions his failed sex life. He sighs a lot and talks about how he has bad luck with the ladies. See for yourself. *sigh*
Wierdo. Makes lots of comments about his sex life (well, lack thereof). Took anti-depressents or some sort of pill in front of the class, can't explain anything and assigns pointless assingments. I'm glad the course is almost done.
one of the better professors on campus, he is passionate about the things he talks about and links his own experienced to teach the class, which can't be easy to do especially in such a large class. Tries to get to know people by name and integrates video and other material. Well spoken, down to earth and considerate of his students. excellent over
What a wonderful prof and a great guy too! Norm is so down to earth, helpful, and kind. Also, he really knows his stuff! He actually cares about the students gaining knowledge. Very refreshing.
Great prof. Instead of cramming theory after theory down your throat, he backs it up with real world examples that help GREATLY in understanding it. Very helpful too and down to earth, I've never had a prof respond to emails so quickly!
freaking hilarious! he gives a course reader with a summary of every chapter of the textbook. Entertaining in class, and even if you dont go to class he will email you the lecture slides and notes. He is so funny cause he constantly sigh's and the final was so easy everyone was done in 30 mins. enjoy
Tests were more challenging than expected, gives out lecture notes so you don't need to go to class really. Good prof, odd but funny .
GREAT Prof, kept class entertained and involved. Great sense of humor, very helpful, very approachable, very laid back and understanding. Assignments were easy-peasy, midterms were tricky but if you went to class you were fine. Final was EASY. I didn't read the textbook, just the manual, and I got 90s. If you liked SOC1500, take 2070 with Norm!!!!!
Norm is awesome! Sweet, cute, funny, smart, well read, interesting, caring, passionate. One of the best profs! Really cares about his students and makes the material sooo interesting. Brilliant man. Cutie Patootie!
Norm is super cool. I would highly recommend this class. 3 reaction papers worth 10% each, presentation worth 10%, Participation 10%, Midterm 20%, essay prep 10%, essay 40. He is so flexible and always returns emails within hours. The class is fun and thought provoking.
Bad attempts made to incorporate media. Exams overly difficult for the material taught. He is intellegent, but to the extreme that he is unable to convey what he means. Should be a TA, not a Teacher.
Awesome prof! Funny as hell. I gained so much respect when I found out that he like threesomes...what a guy.
This was one of my favourite lectures to attend simply because of Norm. Sooo funny and always had a story to relate to the topic. Most of the things learned were useless, but all the exams were multiple choice, and you leave every class with atleast one funny quote from Norm. You just want to hug the guy!
Unprofessional as a result of trying to hard to be liked. He makes fun of people on Courselink if he doesn't agree with their font size.
Love Norman! He's honestly the funniest, nicest prof's ever! Such a good guy! If you go to class, you will ace this course! No need to read the textbook EVER! He's amazing!
he's very entertaining, inserts little quips throughout.
I don't like when he centers people out in class to answer questions and puts them on the spot.
Norm is great! Always entertaining and informative.
Norm's clearly the man. Haters don't know what's up
He is a great prof. He teaches with passion and makes you intested in what is being said. He is very helpful and informative. Probably the best prof I have had at the University thus far.
I took his crime envision class and I found his marking to be quite unfair. His reviews were quite useless and some exam questions were impossible to know (fill in the blanks, with no word bank). I usually get mid 80s, however in this class I got a low 70. Not impressed
I've had Norm several times, he is by far one of my favourite profs. Norm is extremely knowledgeable about the topics he teaches on, is enthusiastic about teaching and is very helpful!
This is the second time with Dube, he is the worst professor I have had in 5 semesters without question. Easy and nice enough of a guy but can not teach. He is unable to clearly articulate any point or explain any theory. The fact that he has the authority to teach a University Lecture is alarming. Switch out of his class.
Norm is the man! His teaching style is quirky but very engaging. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about course material and that passion is infectious.
THE BEST!!!!! can get dull sometimes but very entertaining when he's not. just look at his qwerkiness. I LOVE YOU NORM
Sounds like Kermit the Frog... or Ernie from Sesame Street. Entertaining enough and gets the material accross well enough. But he likes to teach from his beliefs/opinions.. and can't always justify it, making students feel they are wrong. Didn't like that.
Norm is always cracking jokes, I would love to have another class with him. Pay attention in class, do the readings and you will succeed. The readings he picks are actually interesting unlike other Soc courses (1500, 2760, etc) and they are easy to get through. Uses his awkwardness to his advantage through his hilarity. Rock on Norm!
one of my favourite professors. Hes hilarious and the material is really interesting. His midterms and exams are fair but you really have to know and understand the material. I would definitely recommend him.
Interesting class, I liked writing the papers, marking seemed fair.
Dubeski is a terrible professor. Each class consists of long mandatory presentations by students, followed by documentaries if there's time. He doesn't lecture. He's not a good public speaker (which is fine, but therefore shouldn't be a prof.). Course requirements are fair. But overall the class is very boring. Would be much better with a dif prof.
At first i though norm was a horrible prof, but i kind of judged the book by its cover. hes actually really funny and interesting to listen to. course itself is also really interesting and touches apon cool stuff. overall hes a good prof and midterms are really easy...however, the online postings are pretty annoying to do weekly
Absolute best professor and class I have ever taken! He is an incredible teacher! He is extremely down to earth and helpful. His assignments and exams are extremely fair! I would recommend this class and prof to anyone!!!!! Only class I'm sorry to see end!
LOVE Norm :) Great guy and so helpeful :)
AMAAZZING PROF! if you have the chance to get this prof take it! easy easy course! got a 93 in his class so easy
Went out of my way to rate this guy. great proff! easy exams! easy to good on the class discussions (alot of work). this guy is a beauty. posts marks fast. Dont buy the text, hes course reader and lecture say it all!
Was a great Prof. He was so engaging during the discussions and talked about more than just the class material. He was not ashamed to learn new things which some Profs are. He was easy to get in contact with and always willing to help. I wish I could have him again but I'm graduating
Norm was the greatest professor I've ever had. Not only was he hilarious, but he made dry content interesting. Best class I've ever taken, hands down (and it was a 3 hour night class, which says a lot). Really hope I have the opportunity to take another one of Norm's classes.
best prof ever period
Norman is the man! Probably one of the best profs I've ever had! He is so hilarious and makes the 3 hour night classes actually interesting. I looked forward to his class each week! Really easy to talk to, and is very open to new opinions, and does his best to not be bias. I really hope I find him in another class! Take the course it's worth it!
He is a hilarious prof! Some people might find him offensive but that's his goal, he wants to expose you to the course and the real knowledge of the world! He's super nice too. I would definitely recommend this course and this prof.
Really entertaining and funny guy, interesting course content and the easiest tests! Winged both the midterms and got a 93% and a 95%.
Amazing prof! Favourite for sure!!
Organized, and not afraid to say something that might shock you. I didn't use the textbook, but then I really paid attention for 3 hrs straight in class. Definitely at least go to class for the reviews, class can also be really funny sometimes.
Hilarious dude, looks to offend people. Half of his lectures are movies.
Professor Dubeski is honestly one of the best professors I have had in Guelph, very fair evaluations and just an all around hilarious guy who loves to shock and make everyone in his classes laugh. Also by no means afraid to speak his mind
Amazing prof! Always there to help and offers help whenever possible. Class structure was great, not too difficult. Always willing to help via email and in person. Super flexible with due dates and genuinely wants all of his students to succeed. Although he is quirky, you can tell enjoys teaching.
One of my favourite profs on campus! Although at first i was skeptical because he is a little bit quirky he soon became my favourite! He gives extremely fair midterms/final and I found the blog post interesting and very fairly marked! He is extremely intelligent and makes 3 hour lectures interesting! Would take any class he taught
Dubeski is not afraid to bring up sensitive subjects, which opens up the opportunity for stimulating discussion in class. He is extremely flexible when it comes to submitting assignments and I actually found his assignments quite interesting to complete. He understands that as students we are extremely busy. I would take a course with him again.
He seems a little odd at first, but that doesn't take away from him as a prof. His material is straightforward and you know what's expected of you going into midterms and the exam. It's also helpful when he does a mini review with the class. My highest grade is in this class.
Norman Dubeski is an extremely friendly, helpful, and approachable professor. He is very knowledgeable about the class that he teaches (Violence in Society). Dubeski makes learning both fun and engaging. I highly recommend him to everyone that is considering taking his class.
His classes have always been very interesting (SOC4010 and SOC2070), he brought in exciting guest speakers (i.e. an ex police office and current advocate and user for medical marijuana - she was prescribed 100gs per day and was vaping during it)!He is funny & slightly eccentric but I would jump on the opportunity to attend one of his classes again!
Overall easy marker if you can get past him being very odd/saying inappropriate things in class. Marking set up is a bit strange, your major presentation is not worth very much in comparison to other assignments.
He is a great prof, and shares unconventional ideas and will make you think if you're receptive to them. He is not always politically correct, but professors are supposed to challenge your beliefs. Best prof I've ever had. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to improve their critical thinking. He is also very quirky. Lectures are great.
Goes off topic for a living. No need to go to class (it will just confuse you) just read the textbook. Only cool thing about this guy is his hat.
Norman is an interesting dude with a cool safari hat (that is really only cool on the first day). He knows his stuff. With that being said though, he uses an old school projector and sheets of printed off notes as lecture slides. He also places great importance in the articles he discusses. The class was interesting but it is not an easy A course
Very funny and makes talking about sensitive topics easy.
A lot of people find him hilarious, I don't. I learned things, but for me it was not really sociology. He just talks about his opinions all the time. It could be fine if it was not very biased, I mean for the discussion posts we had to read very biased articles (fox News, conservative think tank, ridiculous ode to Peterson...). Easy course tho.
Ya'll, now I NEVER go out of my way to rate any professor but this professor is A LEGEND. I don't mean to be extra, but Dubeski has by far been the best professor i've had since i've started my studies. He is flexible, his assignments are fair and knowledgeable - Anyone who says otherwise I will personally attack you. TAKE ANY COURSE HE TEACHES
By far the best prof I've had at Guelph. He cares for his students and doesn't make you feel like just a number. Would 100% take his courses again. I was able to balance this class, get the grades and manage my mental health because of the way he set up the course. A real gem.
For the online Homicide class, he literally did not get enough exams for the final! Many people got to leave and study more. Completely ridiculous, it wasn't just a few students, about half of the class did. Not only that, but now he has to compensate for everybody who left to do a different exam date. Absolutely irresponsible and horrible.
Online homicide course. Did not have enough exams. About half the people has more time to write it and he did not specify when they would reschedule. When those half were loud and disturbing the ones writing it, he did not say anything. It took a student to point out to them that the noise is unfair. Inconsiderate and not professional
Dr. Dubeski is a good prof overall, kind of an odd guy but very respectable. Interesting assignments. Class is presentation, participation, 3 small papers and a written final
I really enjoyed having Prof. Dubeski as my professor. The class has a presentation, a final, and three papers. He is very laid-back about deadlines, as he gives a one-week extension on every paper. I find him to be very funny, and his lectures are in no way boring. He's a good marker and is just a friendly person overall.
Great Professor! Norman Duebeski is very caring and informative. I wish all professors were like him.
He makes himself seem like a really easy going prof but then makes his exams really difficult. Dont bother doing the review because none of the questions will be on there.
Never had the chance to experience Professor Dubeskis lectures in person, as I had him for a DE class but he is one of the most caring and considerate profs Ive ever had. You cover some sensitive topics in soc2070 and he always made sure it was presented in a comforting way. This guy loves his students and you can tell. Super educated too!
Professor Dubeski is one of the best professors Ive had in my university career so far. He is compassionate and understanding, never be afraid to shoot him an email if anything is wrong. Unfortunately I havent been able to experience his lectures in person, but the content is interesting and his exams are fair. Absolute beauty.
Mr Dubeski was very caring throughout my years, his tests are quite hard though and I would suggest doing ALL practice material in the lead-up. My one complaint however is that while he is a prestigious author, many of his texts are a little out of my price range and one of his books is unavailable for purchase.
Professor Dubeski is a very strange man... He says inappropriate things, he over shares things about his personal life which is very uncomfortable. Try leaving class without him asking where you are going or why you are leaving. Overall, easy class, he often will give students very high marks, but this guy will make you feel uncomfortable for sure.
I loved Professor Dubeski. He was such a sweet professor, and I enjoyed his unique approach to papers. Unlike argumentative essays, his papers allowed for way more creativity - I truly enjoyed writing them. I would take it again. I enjoyed his antics and comments in class, I think they lightened up his lectures.
He is a strange man, but also hilarious and caring. If you attend his lectures they are very entertaining and he tries to make sure everyone understands the material. He provides plenty of opportunities to learn through videos, readings or activities. He also always posts his notes and exam reviews which is very helpful to succeed.
Honestly my favourite prof I have ever had. Take his class!!!
Dubeski is a super chill prof. He provides all article readings for you through Ares so you don't have to go hunting for them, which was a huge plus during the summer semester. Course material is diverse and engaging. Weekly discussions are pretty low-pressure and Dubeski also comments on posts, so it feels less like you're shouting into the void.
Professor Dubeski is a bit quirky but engaging. His lectures are entertaining and he genuinely cares about student understanding. While his exams can be challenging, using the class materials and tools like Unstuckstudy helps succeed. Overall, a rewarding experience.
