He is easy as long as you do all his work. Reading homework, 1 book &reading journals, essays, lots of quizzes, funny, some extra credit.
This class isnt easy. His gradings are hard. But i love this class cause i learned a lot from it.
His class is easy as long as you do all the readings, attend all the lectures, do all your homework, and go with the flow... He's a pretty fun guy.
He made me laugh, and made class interesting
not very helpful
The work is NOT hard, though there is a bit. Stay on top of things, and the semester won't be a pain. Really fun and interesting. Great book. I highly recommend taking the writing lab in conjunction with this class, because he'll help you personally there with your papers! He wont do it for you, but he helps! It isn't hard to get an A, just work.
English is one of my weak points, but he makes the class and classwork straightforward and easy. I recommend taking this as an in-between class because there is classwork everyday (but it is VERY easy). Work is distributed evenly in VERY VERY manageable loads. Gives 25 extra credit assignment and allows you to rewrite 1 of 4 1000 word papers.
Mr. Hom is the BEST! Great teacher!
he is the most awesom teacher ever! Makes class real fun
Awesome teacher, funny guy, quite a bit of work, but he gives you a full schedule, and if you stay on top of your essay writing its easy, plus he goes over everything your supposed to write about, TAKE HIM!!!

Mr. Norman (like I call him) is one of those teachers that you learn to love. His very best quality is his teaching style--Crystal Clear! He has an eduacated sense of humor. I wouldn't really get the jokes in class, but later I would be laughing my head off, around my midnight. Love you Mr.Hom.
Best teacher i have had so far at CRC. A good amount of work, but plenty of time to complete. Hes also cool about occasional absences. Also, he only promised 1 xtra cred opprotunity, but gave us 2 towards the end of semester. unbelieveable amount of points given for those.Awesome Teacher and hilarious at times.
Excellent teacher. Fun and easy. Loved it.
Excellent teacher. Fun class. Funny guy. I got an A. He likes to crack jokes and he's very nice.
He is not what people said. Boring and his lectures are worthless. passed out several times in this class. Only elderly would love his class. Don't take my reference and find out for yourself.
Excellent Teacher. He is one of the best teachers that I have had at CRC. Everything from his personality to his teaching is awsome. He is one of those teachers that you actually want to go to. I would recommend him for any English class that he teaches.
He is so funny, fair and kind.
...he gives lots of quizes and reading assignments. he will make fun of you in front of everyone..be careful! also his grading is super hard
My favorite prof. Hom is a hard working and honest teacher. He has a great personality, and he is a wonderful teacher. I love the way he teaches. Even if you don't want to learn something, he will make you learn that.
I think he works part time at best buy. I know his brother too.
loves to pick favorites!grades hard.Gives Alot of Homework. Assigns a reasonable amount of reading every week. Doesnt really care about helping you unless he likes you. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Not too easy, not too hard. do your work and essays. He'll pick on you to answer questions, so be prepared to be asked at anytime. He's an okay teacher.
Tough but fair. Hom will challenge you to be a better writer. Class participation is a must as well. Great teacher, I loved his class.
Hom is Kool! Bright, Funny, Nice person. He is always willing to help a student. Class is no walk in the park. I'm glad I had him. He taught me alot. Go Homie!!!!
Hes a great teacher! Very helpful. COme to class or you will miss alot. You need to read the textbooks cause he when you walk in you get a pop quiz on the reading. Be prepared!!! Just do homework and essays and you pass with flying colors...
Amazing teacher. Witty, interesting. House of Mirth was an amazing book, and the discussions on the book help you for your final essay. Just do your work on time, and try, and you'll pass. Essays were very fun to write. He is also very funny.
Mr Hom is a GREAT teacher. The first day I wanted to drop his class because he is very strict, but if you stick with his class you'll learn a lot. Attendance is very important, but if you're putting your best foot forward, you'll pass. Mr. Hom also makes the class fun, my class was 2 hours!! and it went by fast.
hom is very clear in his instructions and teachings.
Mr Hom Is very structured. He assigned quizzes to make sure you are reading your text book and Liturature book.Soif there is a large reading assignment you willmost likely have a journal and a quizon it. Quizes are fairly easy if you read ! Also there are 5 papers and you get credit for peer editing. Easy class if you work and read
Very clear syllabus. He does not give grades away. You must keep up with your reading and writing assignments or you will fall WAY behind. Clear outcomes stated great professor.
Mr.Hom's lecture are very well follow if you listen, there is not much confusion, but he'll give you examples if you dont get something he is teaching, overall great teacher and easy to follow.
Very hard class. Lots of reading and homework. If you don't like to work hard then do not take him. Grades are well earned. Don't miss class and buy all the textbooks. Take notes and pay attention. Very funny guy, but shows no mercy towards slackers.
Excellent professor! He expects great things from his students. If you aren't willing to step up and work hard, avoid Hom, but if you want a challenge and want to walk away having learned something, this is the teacher to take!
At first, you'll probabldy drop his class. But he's a really good english professor. Just come to class ready for quizzes based on assign material. Grades are earned. Funny guy, he makes class fun and interesting. Take him!
GREAT TEACHER. SECOND TIME TAKING HIM. FUNNY TEACHER. YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK TO EARN THE GRADE YOU WANT. VERY HELPFUL, WILLINGLY TO HELP IF YOU ASK THE ?. CLASS IS MANDATORY!!!
Awesome teacher!! Took him for 101 and 302 wish I'd taken him for 300 as well but there was a schedule conflict. Anyhow Mr. Hom was great his essay prompts are very interesting, he's funny, nice and really cares about his students. Take him if you have the chance you'll learn a lot and have a lot of fun! He rules!!!
Good teacher, really helpful. You do have to attend every class which isn't fun, but his discussions are good. Lots of quizzes and homework. You'll probably want to drop the class the first day, but stick with it and its not so terrible. P.S. Don't walk in front of him while hes talking.. eek.
You've gotta love the guy!!! He's pretty cool and the assignment he gives are pretty reasonable and sometimes fun. There's nothing else more you can expect from taking ENGWR 300.
Just have keep up with your readings and writing. He is a cool guy. I had a good time. You probably will too. You will learn how to write better if you care.
He's a really nice teacher who acts like a an army commander in the beginning. There's a lot of work like reading and writing essays..but he's helpful if you talk to him. DO ALL THE WORK N YOU WILL DEF PASS!!!! I did all the work, went to class everyday n got an A!! O btw..he's strict when it comes to manners..so be polite haha
very funny! nice teacher! easy class! just do everything and you're okay! Nice Hair! Nice humor (offsets the strict atmosphere)! recommend the dude!
he is a fun guy who is very entertaining. he teaches well and keep you involved. just do the work and participate and you can get an A-B in this class
Hom is cool. Do the work and you will be successful in his class.
Awesome teacher! I had him for my eight weeks course so everything went by so fast! Do all your work and you'll most likely get an easy A or B. But yeah, when writing journals it's best to go above and beyond the one page minimum writing more about your reflection to the book. He's a great teacher! I learned a lot! TAKE HIM! =)
Mr.Hom is the best! I loved his class, he is so funny and smart. I loved the novel we read in his class also. Mr.Hom is very easy to understand, I always knew exactly what I was doing and always received a good grade on my essays, I believe he is a very fair grader. He has a heavy work load, but its not hard, and definitely do-able.
Cool teacher, but kind of arrogant about it. He actually tells you how cool he is, which makes me a bit less cool. If he was more humble about it he'd be awesome. In any case, he is great at his job. He teaches very well and is open to new opinions and understands that his opinions and views isn't necessarily the right answer. I'd recommend him.
Great Teacher went beyond the call of duty Will help you outside of classroom hours
he has attitude which is hilarious. he gives out paper after paper which is exhausting. you have to read a book and do journals and take quizes on it. you will have a ten page paper due at the end of the course. make sure u dont wait until the last moment to do it. good luck
My favorite English teacher of all time! I took him for 300 (8 week class) and 301 and I really enjoyed both of them. Attendance it mandatory and he does give a lot of assignments. However all of the work pays off. You learn a ton! and I was able to pull off A's both semesters. Not only is Mr. Hom a great teacher, he is hilarious. TAKE HIM!
Very difficult, and plenty of paper work that seemed like busy work. He doesn't seem to explain how to adequately attain a high grade in his class. Very difficult grading. He appeared grumpy when we spoke a few times, but he might have been in a rush.
By the time you're in English 300, you should know how to write. He didn't exactly taught much, but he was fun and cool. He assigns a lot of work, but they were to help stuents get an idea on the upcoming paper. Quite a lot of writing, but he lets you revise two of your papers for a better grade. Overall not too difficult
This class was boring....alot of going over the book page by page for class discussion. He gives out a lot of work:essays, journals, and a presentation. He is a hard grader. Don't be late to his class and you will never leave early. He reminds me of a high school teacher because he has an attitude & a lot of rules.
Would not recommend this teacher. He gave a lot of work and when asked for help had an attitude. was rude to students. not a pleasant teacher nor helpful
Fun teacher. Did a lot of reading (he assigns a book for the semester). He's very fair, he always seemed to know when I didn't try my best; that's when he would push/encourage me to do my best. He made the class fun. Sit in the front... best view in the house;D
Took him last semester. he does assign a lot of essays but it is a writing class, so I can't complain there. He makes it clear what it is that he is looking for. So long as you are on time, present and do the work there is no problem. I earned and deserved the grade I got. not what I wanted but I deserve it. I passed with a C.
"Hom's the bomb". I loved his detective stories; think it was Dr. Haligen lol. I enjoyed his presence; he's a great guy. As others mention, be nice and he'll be nice. VERY smart professor. He knows everything! Very geeky indeed. Class is challenging, but not impossible.
Lol! This class was hilarious. Makes weird but funny jokes. Do the work and you'll pass. A lot of writing and reading but not impossible to do. Gives out a guideline for every essay so pay attention to the guideline.
Humorous professor and at the right college level course. I received an A. There are 7 essays, only need to read one book which is your last essay assignment, attendance is mandatory, and you get one essay rewrite. Honestly, this class is pretty easy as long as you do the work and come to class. Prof Hom is very clear in lectures and what he wants.
Humorous teacher made class interesting. Very clear in lectures and in assignments. 7 essays (2 are in class), read only 1 book House of Mirth which is last essay assignment, easy pop quizzes, and fun class. Attendance is mandatory. We had a potluck on finals day and did an easy finals assignment. Received an A in the class.
Class was fun. Professor Hom was very infromative in what he expected from the class and students. For my class, there was 5 major essay, 5 in-class essay, 1 research paper, and a lot of weekly journals from the textbooks. There were daily quizzes on readings. Easy A if you do all the work and show up to class. One good advice is to take notes.
Professor Hom seems like a decent teacher. I have no interest in the subject, but makes class enjoyable. Easy as long as you put in the effort. Exams require good memory, but still fairly easy. Don't come to class late, and show some respect or he'll light you up. I love Hom - in a non-sexual way.
He is not helpful at all. He rushed me during his office hour even though there was no student waiting to see him. Every time I see him on campus, I say "Hi" and he would always ignore me or walk the other direction. Very awkward. He gives out pop quizzes and assignments daily so your grade can change day to day. Do not take him.
He loves giving pop quizzes. A lot of people would had higher grades if it wasn't for the quizzes. Don't come in late! He hates that! Do the journals, write the three papers he assigns and do the group project. The test are decent. Come to class you'll pass type of thing. He makes lectures interesting
As long as you read the book and do all the work, you should be able to pass the class easily. There were five essays in this semester and one major essay. Quizzes after each reading and no tests. Take his class if you are comfortable with writing essays and reading books then having discussions in class. A very nice and funny professor!
With English as my second language, I was not interested in writing or English at all until I take Professor Hom. He is very cool and understanding. If you keep up with the readings and do your journals correctly the class should be easy. The essay requirements are easy to follow (you know what to do) and he helps during his office hour.
Hom is a great guy and super funny. Took his class for 300 and 302. He is a no nonesse guy when it comes to turning in assignments. Overall do the work, pass the class
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. Take the class and you'll understand.
I love Professor Hom! He's relatable and extremely funny. His lectures are easy and clear. He wants everyone to pass and encourages students to participate. Show up to class on time! Only downside is he doesn't use any online grading site such as D2L. He does give out progress reports so we know our grade. He also gives back papers quickly!
Hom is the bomb. This is my second class with him and he really is. Read, do the journal, show up, participate, take note of specific things he points out or goes over because it may be on the 10 question midterm thing that goes along with the in class essay and it's really emotionally crippling to miss those questions. He doesnt like poetry.
Professor Hom is simply amazing! He is very caring and wants all his students to pass. Although he may come off as a guy with an attitude, he is quite hilarious and inspirational. The only thing I would recommend is read the textbook for future quizzes.
Professor Hom is hilarious and he's very helpful. He'll push you, but in a nice way. There's a presentation and groups each week and you'll switch your group for a few weeks, too. Not too much work and light reading. The assignments are clear and the exams are not too hard. You get a few topics to choose from, a total of four papers for the course.
At the beginning of this class I was pretty intimidated by Hom because he can come off as rude. Class consists of discussions based on readings and requires participation. Tells you exactly what he wants and is available for help. Class is not hard but there is a lot of readings that I found to be quite enjoyable. Also a fun final!
This was a very straight forward class. Hom gives you all the tools you need to be successful. Class consists of 7 essays ( 2 in class, 5 out of class), read one novel (last essay), journals, and some in class quizzes. Basically, show up and do your work and you'll do fine.
Tough but hilarious, do you work, put in the time and you will do good.
Amazing professor, scary at first but its his brutal honesty, it wont kill ya. Great readings, lively lectures, he answers questions, isnt judgey, is a tough grader but not excessively rigid. 4 major essays + 4 major exams + pop quizzes... and a lot of fun in between. Just do yourself a favor and take Hom.
Professor Hom is a smart, fair and a generous teacher. He will come across as being harsh and rigid. But, his caring at the same time. He will make sure you work to earn your grade. This class is definitely passable. One can even get an A only if he/she reads and completes all assignments. I Would recommend ESL or non English speakers to take him.
Hom was the perfect representation of a sarcastic and witty english professor. If you miss a few journals and fail some quizzes you still have a chance with passing with an A! Easy grading and very understanding. The final is a weighted group final so make friends! I... I have regrets...
Hom is a nice professor. He assigns 5 out of class essays and 2 in class. There are a lot of quizzes and if you fail one, it doesn't have a huge impact on the grade. He is a little tough grader but overall a good choice. if you do the work and be on time, you should be fine.
I do not recommend him. He is rude and make no question environment in the class. Also does not give you feedback on you papers. Seems impossible to get A grade in this class.
Despite having a tendency to ALWAYS mention that he's from Stockton, Hom always cracked me up with how honest and witty he was with his students. Literally, just do the work and show up to class and you'll be fine. His expectations aren't very far-fetched. All I'm gonna say is real recognize real, so being on his good side helps. Idk about the bad.
he is such a terrible person, hecka rude towards students. Thinks he owns the college. gives 7 essays 2 in-class. so get ready to write a lot of essays if u like. you would actually be afraid to ask him questions and if u wish to ask him any he barely gives proper reply. He won't give any feedback for the last essay & if u failed that1 u fail class
I loved Professor Hom. Hes actually a very funny person and tells it how it is. Hes a fair grader and easy to get ahold of after class hours. Just show up and participate and do all the journals and youll get an easy A or B.
He's a good teacher but I difficult to stay alert during class. We read a lot so it was kind of boring and if you get caught sleeping or being disrespectful he may send you out; it only happened once. You have these journals where will need to do five from each chapter, one each day. Just be prepared for lots of reading and writing.
Not a good Professor at all .Matter of fact Id never take one of his classes again. He expects you to be an expert at writing essays although the only the source you have to help you is the text book. The way he grades is extremely hard and if you do good on a 200 point essay it will only bump you up 1 % but if you do bad it drops you down 10% .
idk what ppl are on about with there not being clear grading criteria with Hom - he gives a rubric with what he expects to see on essays and "writes anything important" on the board. i have yet to disagree with his grading, when i turn in something sloppy, i expect a sloppy grade. when i turn in an essay im proud of, it shows. keep it up, Hom :)
Sadly to say, he is not considerate at all. He has a pretty bad attitude & blames it on being from Stockton. Oh yeah! get ready to hear that from him 50 times in your day. Be prepared to write like a robot. He gives no creative control on your writing & expect you to write his way or the highway. Good luck if youre stuck taking him !!
He's a good professor. He allows rewrites on essays you fail. He gives good feed backs on papers. Really utilize the rough draft workshops and feel free to ask any questions. Just beware that if it's a stupid question he's not afraid to tell you that your question was dumb. Do your work correctly and you'll pass with an A easily.
Hom is an English expert, but unfortunately uses that fact to discourage and ridicule his students. His extensive & humiliating feedback gives students little to no hope in ever being a solid writer. As a professor he fails at making his students feel safe coming to him for advice. Its too bad his expertise has gone to waste because of his ego.
Took him for summer during COVID. I think the reason I struggled was because I was in more than one class. Gave 4 essays (1000wd) a total of 15 (250wrd) journal, quizzes have VERY short time limits, 4 tests total including final. I think that if he was my only class or if I wasnt on the summer time limit I wouldve easily got an A. Not a bad pick.
Also the work is due on tues & fri at midnight, includes disc. posts and journals. Important to remember you actually have to read the textbook before, because youre talking about the reading. Tests will ask very specific questions that you wont know if you didnt actually read!!! And you dont have alot of time to think or look back in the book.
I took this class during the summer. The class was asynchronous, so stuff was done at our own pace and we never saw his face. The work was hefty; we had to complete papers in less than two weeks while doing reading, discussions, and journals. He seems okay (I haven't met him). He doesn't like people who don't try, so actually try if you take him.
Professor Hom is truly one of my favorite teachers I have had, and I'm not even a big fan of school. If you put in the effort and do your best, it will pay off. The class itself isn't too hard. He is very caring, and is flexible with due dates. He is a very nice teacher and I really enjoyed the things we read. I would totally take his class again.
He is very very strict at all the tests. i feel that he is not willing to have any ask for help or explaination although they are all polite. he does not want to improve his students after every test. i am very disappointed after receiving any gamil from him. he is always like that all the times.
Do NOT take his class, it will only hurt your GPA. He has 3min time limits for chapter quizzes. Does not give any feedback. Very rude to his students. He is very unorganized & makes you dig around Canvas for the directions on the assignment. He doesnt even teach he just assigns hw. This semester started 5 days ago & I am already dropping his class.
Had him for Spring 2021 and hes very picky. Very heavy in writing essays and journals, we had 4 essays and a research project (useless). His feedback was vague, so we didn't know what he clearly looked for in our papers. Hes very knowledgeable but because of that he doesnt help you become a better writer. Takes forever to grade things btw.
He was very rude when we asked for help. His comments on our papers were vague "yes" "no" "what" instead of something that would improve our grades. We would get an abundance of assignments while having to balance essays and papers at the same time with little time in-between each assignment. He had no effort put in to improve our writing skills.
Just save your self, don't take his class.
TOOK PROFESSOR HOM SPRING 2021 SEMESTER. HE GAVE 3 PAPERS BASED OFF THE TEXTBOOK AND 1 RESEARCH PAPER AND PRESENTATION. 15 JOURNALS THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER AS WELL. HE DID NOT GIVE GOOD FEEDBACK ON PAPERS OR TESTS. ONLY REASON I GAVE HIM A 3 IS BECAUSE HE GAVE LOTS OF EXTENSIONS ON PAPERS.
He's a decent professor, but he doesn't give clear feedback on your papers and journals which makes it harder for you to improve. Took his writing 301 class and as long as you put in some time and effort for the papers, discussions, & journals you should do fine. But be warned, he's extremely picky with his grading. Don't miss too many assignments.
So I took this teacher during summer 2021 and he was tough. There are 4 papers one of them being a research paper and then a presentation of said research paper. 5 journals for poetry, drama, and fiction and he doesnt really specify instructions. If you need help you won't get it. The final as he says will be 20 questions in 10 minutes, just no.
This was an asynchronous class but he treated it as a synchronous class. He doesn't give good feedback and judges everything you say/type. He is really not clear in giving instructions and he gives way too much homework. He also does not give enough time for tests, finals, and quizzes. Don't take this class, choose someone else for your own sanity.
A lot of journal assignments, papers, quizzes and tests with a short time limit for no reason, no constructive criticism a lot of the time the feedback would not help you improve with your writings. The class is just not worth the hassle go with a different teacher.
People have been giving him poor ratings recently I believe out of exhaustion for school rather than actual difficulty with him. Yes, he does grade fairly difficultly, however his overall class had a clear setup & was easy to follow. Work was consistent & easy, & his directions were clear. As long as you keep up with his announcements you'l do well
Prof. Hom is very tough. He is very inconsiderate and doesn't value his students. This was an online asynchronous class but he treated it like a synchronous course. We were given multiple journals on top of our daily reading with mandatory discussion posts. In addition, we had 3 papers along with a research paper and presentation.
Professor Hom is very kind, he accepted my presentation late although he says he doesnt on the syllabus. The class consists of 3 papers and 1 research paper + presentation, 3 exams and 1 final, and 15 total writing journals. This class is NOT easy, you will probably only do well if you are already a strong writer. If not, choose someone else plz.
The class seemed simple journal, dis board, and midterms/4 papers. The 10 random questions on the midterms were pretty hard to recount back on when the time limit was barely an hour, plus the essay at the end. Both timed midterms were extremely stressful and he graded the essays pretty ruthlessly. Focus on all the small things questions r random.
In this class, you will have a lot of homework to do. On top of that, you get LOTS of reading and there will be 3 papers due and a research paper along with a presentation. He treats this if it was a synchronous class and it is very difficult to do so. I did all my work and everything yet I barely passed with a C-. The class average was my grade!
I signed up for classes late and got stuck with this professor. It's been 2 weeks since the class started and I'm already dropping it. This class has so many assignments and he makes you search around for directions and due dates. I couldn't fit all my complaints on this review so just save yourself and don't take him.
I took Hom's class asynchronously. The book we read (The House of Mirth) was kinda boring but that's just my taste. Hom has a sense of humor but still looks at your work in a serious manner. I feel like he ran the class well. He sent out announcements of when the next HW was due and made expectations clear. Takes very long to grade essays though
Wrote a 1-2 page journal for every assignment. Often did a discussion board with it as well, responding was optional. You will end up doing around 35+ journals and over 40+ discussion boards which is a lot but the grading criteria on these is extremely lax meaning no word count. Prof. Hom is a solid choice but it's not a total cakewalk.
He's a great professor. I especially enjoyed reading and writing about our assigned texts, even if it was a lot of work. He leaves thoughtful feedback on every submission. He's pretty funny, too. Definitely recommend him if you care about literature.
We had to read The House of Mirth and had weekly discussions/mini quizzes/journals of the book. There were 4 argumentative essays we had to write. His canvas was organized, responded to emails quickly, and was very helpful. He allows students to rewrite ONE essay. Does not allow late work. Don't procrastinate or you will fall behind. Good class
Professor Hom was a good professor who was clear about what he wanted from you. Though there was a lot of homework and work in general and he expected you to participate at a high level, he was fair with his grading and there weren't too many papers, just the average 4. He was a funny professor, and I would take his class again.
Hard grader. Super hard to raise grade.
He was very strict on late work and wouldn't accept any no matter what. He was understanding though and nice. The book we had to read was decent. There was a good amount of homework but nothing too much. The class is very essay heavy though and the essays are argumentative so don't take him if you don't like arguing. He gives really good feedback.
Our 1st essay wasn't graded until the 2nd last week of the semester, after completing our 3rd essay draft which was also after the drop-date. A timed-writing involved our 1st essay and didn't grade and give feedback until much later. Ever since I questioned his syllabus, he's been very strict on unnecessarily docking points instead of being clear.
The work wasn't hard but the professor grades harshly and discriminates against students. He believes his opinions are a fact on books or essays that were assigned. He docks points off for ridiculous reasons and is a late grader so I had to drop with a no pass. If you wanna pass this class, you gotta think just like or be him.
Wouldn't take again. Very unfair grader because he only will give a good grade if you agree with him.
Just coming back on here to warn people. Do not take this class. He doesn't teach, he judges. He obviously just became a teacher because he wants to have the power to tell people their opinions are wrong.
He is a great professor, and give you great feedback to help you earn higher score. If you go to LRC for the room named Writing and Reading Resource Center, they can help you. You will super easy to pass his class. Also, you can revise one of the essays based on which one is the lowest.
Professor Hom's class was difficult at times but he's too cool to criticize anything else. It was a bit hilarious to see himself attribute his more goofy side to his hometown of Stockton. I will say, you can get on his good side early on by participating frequently (right or wrong), he will take a liking to you, which will help big in the long run.
dislike this man to the core. he's rude, uses Stockton as a punchline. apparently doesn't veer from script. do u want to take a class w a prof who imitates Black/POC stereotypical gesticulating for comedy? he & frazee are besties--do w that info what u will. he gave me a 79/100 on each essay bc I stood up for myself.
Beware of this professor. He grades absolutely unfair. You follow his guidelines and he will still give you a terrible grade. I do not recommend taking this class. Never had a teacher this unfortunately terrible before.
Do not take this professor. I am currently taking him for summer school and he will dock you off points for the slightest things. There is a bunch of nonsense work in my opinion. He's very straightforward and sarcastic in his comments. I would recommend a different teacher. The work he assigns is a bunch of busywork.
Prof. Hom was an extremely harsh grader and allowed little to no room for improvement. Responses to emails, papers, and assignments were short and directed you to the vague rubric. Professor was empathetic, yet made you work hard in order to earn some points. Feedback was unclear. Class had a lot of homework and papers due simultaneously.
Terrible. Prof posts homework that you have to do and doesn't put a due date so that it doesn't show up on your dashboard. Does it out of spite and laziness really, and the way he set up his class is ridiculous and impossible to navigate, not everyone has time to dig through 20 pages on canvas just to get to one assignment.
so many homework assignments like a full time job, 6 papers, 2 of them are timed, house of mirth book, 3 assignments for that book every week including quizzes, journal and discussion post, way too much homework don't do this teacher save ur self. very picky and very specific when grading
Do not take this professor. He assigns SO MUCH WORK! You have discussions and responses due that he doesn't even open until 2 days before the due date and you have to write journals/pretty much essays for a majority of the readings you do. On top of that you have multiple papers and exams that he grades harshly. He clearly does not care about you.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR SUMMER. He gives lots of work, which is reasonable for an English class and given it's an 8 week class. I appreciated how this professor corrected my mistakes because of course I got to learn from them. However, he is only focused on pointing out your mistakes and never your strengths. This class was both fun and stressful.
He's empathetic. Will force his opinions to your assignments and affects your grade. He will only point out your wrongs, all he do is judge, and doesn't show he sees your good work. He forgets a student has other classes too not just his class. GO FIND A DIFFERENT INSTRUCTOR.
If you're someone that works full-time or even part-time and decide to take this accelerrated class, you're not going to have a social life. The work load is beyond crazy and impossible to do while also dealing with your own personal things. I don't recommend.
While the professor has a specific teaching style, engaging with it can pay off. Use Unstuck AI, the textbook, and study sessions to succeed in this challenging but manageable course.
He's an okay professor, but his grading criteria can be frustrating. He is very rigid when it comes to grading particularly essays. Formatting is taken very seriously, most essays I wrote content-wise were fine, but were penalized for format error. The grade is most heavily weighted by essays, so make sure you try and follow the rubric to a tee.
Awful professor, who pretended to be cool at the beginning but ended up awful, with lots of homework, and poor communication, i would not suggest him
The most unorganized professor I have had in college. His canvas website layout makes no sense. Navigating his canvas page will take a lot of unnecessary time every week. Professor Hom also seems to take pride in his class being difficult and is a professor that doesn't seem like he wants his students to succeed.
The worst professor, be aware that he won't grade how he said he would, he also will tell you it's not what he asked for when it is clearly what he asked for.
trust me dont take this class online. if you have a job get ready for a paper nearly every night after your shift. Half the time you don't even know when these papers are due because of how horrible his canvas page is setup. He is a super strict grader and then doesn't give you good feedback on how you can improve.
This professor is all around horrible. I do not like being negative but he is by far the worst professor I have ever had. His grading style is extremely harsh and his feedback is completely off and not helpful. His workload is also super unmanageable. Do not recommend if you want to be happy in your daily life.
The course itself is easy, but he makes it feel like the hardest class. He does not understand anything about the subject, and his grading is so strange that I doubt he even knows the material he teaches. I do not recommend anyone take this class with him.
Utilizes announcement & discussion sections. His feedback isn't helpful at all. Submitted an assignment was told it was wrong and to upload the correct file. The assignment did not specify what file type; just a file OR into the text word box. Got a complete 0 for that assignment. Also no redos on these 'wrong' assignments.
I graduated and got my degree at Sacramento state back in 2020. This class is still memorable in the worse way possible. We had to read an odd novel and the story haunts me to this day. His grading is tougher than most professors at sac state as well.
Took it during summer online, was never a big fan of literature and poems, but taking this class made me realized how much I was missing out on it. A lot of analyzing (easy though), journals, and writing. I enjoyed taking this class and the work that came with it.
